Jemel Campbell, better known as Indica, is a poppin’ DJ/producer originally from New Jersey who “has been living in Atlanta for most of [his] life.” The musician has had work featured on Brittany Bosco’s site (SLUG agency), created a mix for Waxx.fm, and even performed at 40 Oz Bounce’s 4th of July event in North Carolina this summer. I talked to Indica about moves, the future, and more. Check out our chat below!

1. How long have you been making music and how long have you been releasing it?

I started DJ’ing two years ago and started producing this year. I put out my first mix Spring of last year and then put out three more mixes that same year.

2. How does the internet affect your work?

For me the internet is a great outlet to find endless inspiration from. [I]t’s the best platform to get my work noticed and recognized by people from across the world [as well].

3. What else do you do besides music?

Everything I do is mainly music lol but [I’m] my own brand. I've been working on more merchandise and brand designs. 

4. Where do you see yourself in 6 months?

In six months I would love to have traveled to more states and even out the country to DJ. I’ve always wanted to go on tour so I definitely see myself making that happen. I work on my production everyday, so I’m working towards getting more industry song placements as well.

5. Is the industry what you thought it would be?

I still feel underground [and] not necessarily in the industry yet. [I]n Atlanta the scene is small, it feels like everyone knows each other. So it’s easy to network because the camaraderie is already there.

6. Name the top 3 three moves you made this year.

I would say being able to create a guest mix for Waxx.fm and hearing it be broadcasted live over the internet.

I’m still happy with my latest release “Horrorscope” which is a visual mix. I worked on the video’s creative direction with cinematographer Greg Hornak. I just wanted to give people an alternative way of experiencing the mix.

I have a show 9/19 at Aisle 5 in Atlanta DJ’ing with WERC CREW & J. Robb. I’m really excited to be apart of this show, shoutout to Xavier BLK for looking out.

"Darling Chuck is a prolific New York City based DJ originally from the Fresh Coast™ known as the Bay Area in California. With a deep rooted love of music instilled from an early age by her parents, Darling Chuck draws on influences from both the West and East coasts, seamlessly bridging new underground sounds with rap, R&B, soul, house and indie favorites alike with awe inspiring visuals to match.

She is behind the branding of "#FOMOPARTY," a popular dance party she co-founded where she both hosts and DJs as well as "OUI," an R&B party where she encourages women in particular to dance and let loose in a safe space. She is also the sound selector and co-host of "Goodside," a monthly radio show she broadcasts live from Woodside in Queens on WAXX.FM where she features latest bits from her circle of talented friends and colleagues.

She has been featured on Refinery 29, Frank 151 and Thump and has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Mya, 1-O.A.K., Mayer Hawthorne, Kero One and Divine Council."
