Thank youuuuuu 😭
3. Name five artists you wish more people knew about.
I answered this one before but I'm happy to do more 😈
Male Tears (I feel like I've talked people's ears off about this band already, but omg, I looooove them, they are such a fun electronic/goth modern act where the frontman is openly gay and a lot of their songs touch on that specifically and are about being a kinky gay goth guy, seriously so fun and has a lot of diversity in the music)
Spike Hellis (another local LA band, very classic EBM throwback but totallyyyy has their own stuff they're bringing to the table, really really fun and an amazing liveshow-- I've seen them three times and I hope to see them again!! Just awesome energy and totally deserving of more attention)
ACTORS (another band I've talked a lot about, but I'm just so surprised that of all the recent darkwave throwback bands they seem to get a bit less attention than some of the others? They are so good, their music is so nostalgic in such a good way, they have just a bit of a glam/Bowie influence IMO that gives them a bit more variation IMHO than some of the other big darkwave acts I've heard, I just really really love them)
Cocksure (OMG where is the love for this act? It's Chris Connelly of RevCo/Ministry/Pigface and Jason Novak of Acumen Nation!! It's super fun and dancey and it gets noooo attention for some reason, their 2018 album "Be Rich" Is PERFECT)
Curse Mackey (Curse my friend Curse 🖤 I have been such a massive fan of his solo work since his first album “Instant Exorcism” from 2019, though I liked this work before that too, but his solo work is just amazing, super fun electronic industrial music with a lot of danciness to it and amazingggg lyrics, you can hear a lot of ohGr inspo which I love and I feel like his newest album from this year, "Immoral Emporium," is his best work yet, so much variation and complexity in some of those tracks, I looove)
4. Top shows you have seen.
Omg EVER? That's a hard one, I've seen so many good shows, but off the top of my head...
For sure my favorite ever was probably when I went to Cold Waves Chicago in 2018 and saw Cocksure, Lead Into Gold, Chemlab, and ohGr all on the same night! That was seriously the best lineup I have ever seen in my entire life. It was such a magical night and I just remember hearing "Faster Than Light" by Lead Into Gold and looking around and seeing EVERYONE there in the birthplace of American industrial music in the theatre where a lot of it happened and everyone was singing along all hype, it was the perfect industrial anthem. That was also the second time I ever got to meet Ogre... the first time, when I saw him with KMFDM in 2017, was also a huge fucking highlight though, amazing fucking show and also just a lifechanging moment in general 🥺🖤
From this year alone, probably my very favorite concert so far was seeing IAMX. I think I talked about it at the time but Chris Corner did this amazing thing with his sound where he gave everyone a pair of fancy headphones to wear during the show. I was apprehensive at first worried that it would muffle the sound or make the show less immersive but OMG, I've never experienced anything quite like it-- The sound was PERFECT, Chris connected the audio in the headphones to his microphone so you could hear his vocals so clean and clear, it was like you were right up in front of him, it was so immersive and literally the best audio of any show I have ever heard. It was in a cool venue up on the rooftop of an old building in DTLA, super small audience, it was so intimate and so original and so cool and the setlist was to die for too :D
And finally..... probably seeing Ministry for the showing of the Wax Trax! Industrial Accident documentary. They did a Wax Trax-era set back in 2019 and it was just so fucking fun. Everyyyyyyyyy industrial fan in LA showed up to that I swear, I was around so many people and met so many amazing people and the show was just so fun and high energy, Ministry sounded great and I was so excited to hear all those songs and just UGHH.
8. What is the strangest thing you’ve witnessed at a show?
HMMM... I don't know if this is the very strangest because it's hard to remember every single detail, but a concert moment that always makes me laugh was back when I saw supposed to see Die Krupps perform at Cold Waves but last minute they weren't able to get their visas. Nobody really announced it properly (they literally made a post about it the day of, so a lot of people didn't know, we only knew because we got to the venue super early and were talking with all the other insane people in line who were obviously paying attention to the updates because we were crazy enough to be at the show hours early lol). They ended up replacing them with the band Caustic who are a super fun kinda goofy local Chicago act. When they got on stage to perform at the time when Die Krupps was supposed to, the frontman was like "What's up Cold Waves, we're Die Krupps!" before playing their set LMAOOOO. They never corrected themselves or properly introduced themselves as far as I remember, it was so fucking funny, to this day I wonder if anyone who wasn't in the know thought they actually saw Die Krupps 😭😭

One of the things I really miss are ticket stubs. I like the convenience but hate the truly ephemeral nature of electronic tickets. While not every show I once saw had a proper ticket (most did), stubs were always good mementos. I can't remember the last time I had a paper stub to save.
This nostalgic thought brought to you because the husband and I watched the Wax Trax Records documentary last night, reminding me that I have visited a few legendary record stores in my time.
I literally stumbled into Wax Trax in 1985, when I made a brief stop in Chicago on my way to college in Massachusetts. I didn't know about them before I walked through their doors, and had no idea how much the bands the label produced/distributed would become part of my life. Serendipity, perhaps. I was and am still a packrat, so I apparently kept the Wax Trax store cards I picked up there, fixing them into one of my journals a few years later, with various other store cards and, yes, concert ticket stubs.
I also started to frame ticket stubs to concerts (here's an early 2000s set), but I stopped that after realizing that we'd need way more space than we had.

A-T-3 242 Front 242 - Sample D
B2 on Front 242s marvellous Endless Riddance EP. It was released on Wax Trax! Records in the US, I'm sure how this happens is covered in the Wax Trax! documentary and it probably came about via Al Jourgensen - sorry, that's really vague, go watch the Wax Trax! documentary, apparently I need to too to dot up on details - anyway, first non-US act released by Wax Trax!
Front 242 get a singer, Richard Jonckheere, in 1983 and founding member Dirk Bergen left to become Front 242s manager

Business card for Denver, CO record store Wax Trax Records, acquired sometime in the mid-1990s.
If you are familiar with the Wax Trax! record label or Chicago store by the same name, this spare, no-nonsense business card might cause you to scratch your head. Yes, the two stores are related. I learned this a few years back when I watched Industrial Accident: The Story of Wax Trax! Records, an excellent documentary on their evolution from small Denver record store to hugely influential record label and Chicago store.
Even as the Wax Trax! founders picked up and moved to Chicago in 1978 to build their industrial empire, the Denver store kept chugging under two new owners. And so I came to acquire this business card sometime in the mid-nineties, almost certainly at a WFMU Record Fair, as I’ve never been to Denver. Though if I ever do visit, I’d want to stop by their store, still standing and stocking independent releases new and used.

Quarantine post, take two!
Hi @haslemere
Are you staying home from work?  Yep!
Who is there with you?  My husband, also working from home, and the cats.
Are you a homebody?  Yep, and an agoraphobe, but that doesn’t make this any easier.  I miss going out to eat, and I miss shopping.  My bank account is happy, I guess.
An event that you were looking forward that got cancelled?  I was supposed to give a talk on restaurant menus at a national conference in Milwaukee.
What movies have you watched recently? A bunch of documentaries (Wax Trax! most recently) and Corpus Christi, an amazing Polish independent film shortlisted for the Foreign Language Oscar this year.  A young man is released from Warsaw juvie and heads to this small town where he ends up faking his way to becoming the town’s priest.  Sounds implausible, but it works very well.
What shows are you watching?  Oh, jeez.  Get ready.
Schitt’s Creek: perfect pandemic entertainment.  I’m sad the final episode aired this week.  Just seeing gifs on Tumblr made me cry again.
Tiger King: I mean, who hasn’t watched Tiger King?  The cattery where we got our Mau warned us about how evil Baskin was.  Not in the context of murdering her husband, but just being a hypocrite about animal rights.
Are You Being Served?:  Still as silly and ribald as ever, but there is some really insightful class commentary.
How to Fix a Drug Scandal: State lab chemist becomes addicted to the drugs she’s testing.  Legal chaos ensues.  Quite the incident in Massachusetts.
Bald and Bankrupt:  My favorite YouTuber.  Take a drink every time he says “Soviet.”  You’ll be under the table in no time.  It’s my dream to travel through all the ex-Soviet republics.  He’s living my dream.  Plus, his spoken Russian is good (huge advantage) and he’s a man, so he can do things like hitchhike and walk alone at night and not worry too much.
Various urban explorers on YouTube.  One of my favorite YouTube subgenres.  Watch a couple of guys explore an abandoned Albanian bunker.
I am having a lot of trouble sleeping, so I’ve been watching more tv than usual.  And we have Netflix, and Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus, so there’s a lot of media to consume.  That’s my self-care.
What are you reading?  Books on menus and restaurant history because I can submit my conference materials online, so I have to revisit my topic.
Hope Tumblr doesn’t eat this text.  :D

OKAY, FINALLY HAVE THE TIME TO MAKE A POST ABOUT THIS...
I had the super super epic honor to get to see the Industrial Accident Wax Trax documentary screening, attend the Q&A, and then get to see Ministry perform a Wax Trax era set tonight...!!! 🤠✨
I also got to say hi to Paul Barker who I adore and ask him for a hug and a picture and he was so sweet, I posted about it before but it was soooo cool. I also very briefly saw Groovie Mann but I didn’t say anything to him 😔 Ministry’s setlist was fantastic and I was nearly crying during the encore when everyone around me was screaming out “Everyday is Halloween” together.... I was in the perfect spot to have a great view but also spend the entirety of the show being shoved around 😃😃😃 And I had soooo many great friend encounters‼️ I went to the event with my friend good Angel @lysistra, but I also got to meet her friend Lissy @magindaras for the first time, and she was so nice and fun, and I got to meet multiple really great people I’ve known through various social media sites in person for the first time including @glass-blown-eyes!! AND I got to catch up briefly with Matthew Setzer and give him a few hugs; I always always love havin the chance to see him 😇 I also got a really epic Wax Trax shirt & it came with a cool bag!! After the show everyone I tagged in this post all went out to a really cool local Thai place which always has the coolest atmosphere and got “dinner” in the middle of the night. It was such a great fun night and I’m still so happy about getting to hug Paul Barker 😭🖤
(Oh, and Angel and Lissy and I made it onto the LA Weekly, which is the source of the last photo 😃💕)

Cold Cave “Promised Land” (2019)
Cold Cave is currently touring the states and Ω+ sincerely wishes its’ followers attending a great time. We know we did when they visited Brooklyn’s Warsaw last June. Our eyes are on the Wax Trax label documentary prize this April and it’s in the air if we’re attending. Tickets are rumored to be only given out on Record Store Day and venues screening it have yet to be announced. Cold Cave has hat-tipped Wax Trax as their influence (because Wes Eisold is truly that sincere of a person) and would be playing with Ministry at the screening, with a post-documentary panel featuring Paul Barker and Chris Connelly to go with it as well. It’s one of those events in which I won’t live with myself if I don’t go. I may or may not take drastic measures, either. Place your bets, people.
“Promised Land” was released without a Heartworm catalog number unlike most others. Cold Cave is seriously channeling the power of The Sisters Of Mercy, another obvious inflence of Eisold’s, so you know it’s good. This digital-only single shows the (right) Eye Of Horus (the Egyptian falcon sky-god) which is a glyph of protection, power, and wealth. The Eye also has its’ worth in fractions for every piece of it: 1/2 for right side of the pupil, 1/4 for the pupil, 1/8 for the eyebrow, 1/16 for the left side of the pupil, 1/32 for the eyelash, and 1/64 for the tear.
