"MEAN! TREVOR, you put slime on Jamie's head to wake him up! What part about that isn't mean."

"I-well." he stuttered, smiling.

"How would you feel if I put slime in your hair huh! How 'bout it?" I said smugly, pushing open the door to the apartment block's lobby, sighing at the warmth and holding open the door for my boyfriend of close to 3 years now. We met shortly after he moved to California to play hockey.

Shucking off my waterproof jacket with a sound similar to two pieces sandpaper grinding against each other I draped it over my arm as Trevor walked through the open door behind me, waiting politely so I could straighten out my t-shirt.

Looking up and smiling at him, I offered him my upturned palm which he playfully grabbed and swung around as he pulled me closer so I stood comfortably under his arm.

"All good?" he asked looking down on my small frame.

"All good!" I repeated stretching the 'l' sound in all enthusiastically.

"Ok then, c'mon let's get upstairs I'm starving." he dragged as we started walking toward the elevators.

"What are you going to about that then?" I smiled, nudging his shoulder playfully.

"I'm hoping my beautiful girlfriend will cook me something delicious." He spoke cheekily looking down at me as we approached the lift panel. Pressing the up button and waiting for the lift to come.

The elevator on the left chimed and the doors rolled open smoothly. We walked in onto carpeted floor, I scanned to tag and pressed the button for the 10th floor listening to the methodical beeps and watching the numbers change.

Until with a jolt, the lift stop suddenly and the all the lights but the ones illuminating the buttons cut.

"Trevor. What happened." I tried to ask without a waver in my voice.

"I think the lift just broke." He mumbled, pulling up the flashlight on his phone and clicking the open door button to no avail. "That doesn't work." He spoke quietly to himself walking to the doors, pocketing his phone and trying to pry open the door with his finger. Grunting softly from exertion he turned back to me and look at my tear filled eyes in the dim light emitted from the panel of numbers.

"It's all good sweetheart. I'll call Jamie and he can come get us out." He spoke gently. To terrified to speak I just nodded, still gripping his left hand. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and opened opened his contacts, hitting Jamie's name and putting it up to his ear.

When the doors opened I tore out of the lift and down the hallway to out apartment, fishing the keys out of my pocket I jammed them into the lock.

Bright light hit your eyes as you sit up in an empty room, just a bed and some strange equipment, pure white stone walls and floor. Coughing a little you rub your neck feeling like there's something sticky in your throat. No matter how hard you cough it stays there so giving up you scanning the room as you try to remember what happened, the sea creature, Nami and Robin falling into the water. Looking down at your hands your superseded to see no burn marks form the rope. Reaching up to touch your head there's only a small raised line but it doesn't hurt. Pushing the covers off you and stepping out of bed, a cold chill runs over you making you shiver and cling to yourself. You eyes widen when you don't feel any kind of clothing on you, looking down at yourself you see no clothes on you and panic sets in. Taking the sheet you wrap it around yourself and tie it in knots all the way down you side. Covered well enough only your side showing some skin and your legs and arms exposed you look around the room noticing your alone, Chopper isn't there and more panic raises.

Walking to the door you turn the round handle and open it a much duller light shows the hallway. Its grey stone walls lined with yellow and green lights stretched out far, as you step out the floor's texture changes feeling rough under your bare feet and colder than the room you were just in. No one was around but you could hear some strange clicking noises and croaks kinda like a frog. A flash of light comes from a room down the hall and a familiar sound catches your ear, it was your camera. Making your way down the hall you easily stay quiet sticking to the wall as the flash goes off again, the same clicking and croaking form before gets louder. Peaking round the corner your met with two strange creatures. Something about them is off though, blueish green scaly fish skin with no hair or cloths, their faces looked more like a frog, large mouths and unblinking eyes that sat on the top of their heads. Feathered gills ran down their upper torso, on their shoulder blades, back of arms and legs were spikes with webbing attached and webbed hands and feet. They spoke to each other with croaks and clicks taking pictures with your camera and watching the photos fall to the ground.

Stepping into the room they both turned to face you, you didn't understand their expression as they stared at you but you had a feeling they weren't going to hurt you. Picking up a photo from the floor, your looked it over before putting it under your arm knowing it needs a warmer environment than this to develop. The ground was littered with Polaroids all still back since the area was too bright and cold. Pulling the Polaroid out form under your arm you held it out to them, you hand shaking a little form the cold. The two looked at each other before looking at the picture, clicking to each other they seemed to get excited taking the photo from your hand and pointing at each other. The photo showed one of them, you couldn't tell which because they both looked exactly the same. One held the camera and bag out to you and you gladly took it, looking it over. You thanked the heavens your camera back was waterproof, feeling it dry but somewhat slimy from the creatures touching it "Thank you, do you know where my friend is?" you ask even though it felt a little weird with the sticky stuff in your throat, the two just tilting their heads at your words not understanding. Thinking for a moment you put your hands over your head to represent horns, the second one nods clocking at the other as it takes your hand taking you down the hall. On the way you place your camera in the bag and sling it around you.

You didn't really like the feeling of its hand in yours, slimy scaly hands but you didn't pull away more focused on seeing if Chopper was ok. They lead you into a large room, its ceiling was high with a glass dome over the top showing the world outside, fish and the frog people swam around outside. Inside lining the walls were depictions of the frog people, building, inventing and fighting all carved into the same white stone. The floor felt different much softer and it was only when you looked down that you noticed it was sea grass. "Y/N" Choppers voice rings out. Looking up Chopper runs up to you and hugs your leg, letting go of the creatures hand you wipe it on the sheet before patting the doctors head "Im so glad your ok" you smile before being tackles to the floor with a hug, Looking over you see orange hair and instantly know its nami. Hugging the navigator tight you notice she's wearing a sheet in a similar way "i-i thought i was alone" Nami cry's pulling away to pull chopper into a hug who gladly hugs back "Where are we?" you ask seeing more frog people around the room clicking to each other. "I don't know, but they saved us" Chopper looks over at the frog men before looking back at you and Nami. "They took all our stuff and my throat feels weird" the navigator sighs rubbing her neck "Yea mine too, it feels sticky" Chopper nods too "Yea i tried asking about that, but they don't understand."

Your conversation was cut short when a hand touched your shoulder, It was one of the frog people, it motioned for you to take its head while two others went over to Chopper and Nami doing the same. You hesitated at first but took the things hand getting up off the sea grass floor Nami following your lead. Chopper wasn't to sure though opting to take Nami's hand instead. Leading you three out the room and down another long hallway things started to look different, Coral formed on the wall as you approached some large doors. You notice along the way more and more frog people joining "I don't like this" Nami whispers taking your arm. "I don't feel any ill intent" Chopper whispers trying to calm the navigator. "Don't worry, If they wanted us dead they wouldn't have saved us" Whispering back Nami seemed to calm a little but still held your arm. They open to a smaller room that they lead you into before the doors behind you close, your feeling a little more nervous now as the frog person holding your hand raises his hand up and down over his chest as if telling you three to breath before pressing a button.

The large doors in front of you open and sea water rushes in. The three of you panic but the frogs hold you stopping you guys form running off. A frog person picks up chopper as he starts to feel weak, with the water going over your heads you hold your breath the fear of downing washing over you. The frog besides you mimics the breathing again so taking the hit you breathe in, oxygen fills your lungs as you breathe underwater. Chopper and Nami seem to be doing the same all your fears of drowning fading away as the frogs lead you out of the building and into their city. The same pure white stones make up buildings, paths and large statues. Lampposts line the streets somehow working underwater lighting up the deep dark water. Frog people swim around, sit on benches or are building new statues. It's beautiful, you try and speak but no words come out, it seems the stuff in your throat is only used to help with breathing and nothing else. A small black stone building came into view, it was so different to all the other building's, it had no lights near it and none of the paths ever went close but the frog people swam you over anyway. The doors open letting you in, looking back you notice most of the frog people staying outside as the doors close, the water being sucked out of the room and oxygen filling the room.

"Wow, that was.... amazing" you laugh watching Chopper shake the sea water out of his fur before a strange sound hits your ears and warm air blows into the room. Your hair, skin and clothes going dry in a matter of seconds, Poor chopper fluffs up making the Frog man drop the doctor in fear but you and Nami can't help but laugh. Chopper glares at the two of you before shaking again managing to get his fur back to normal "Its not funny" He yells as you and Nami try to stifle your laughter. Creaking doors open raveling a large black room with red and blue lights an alter and statue at the end depicting a giant fish man. In the middle of the room you spot three figures who frog people and one human. "ROBIN" All three of you yell running at the woman as she turns a sheet covering her body. Tackling her in a hug the black haired woman giggles wrapping her arms around the three of you. "Its good to see you too" Robin lets the three of you go before turning back to the frog people and bowing slightly, they do so in return walking away to meet with the group of frog people that brought you here. "What's going on?" Your question gains Robins attention who turns to you three "I don't understand much, but they did save us. The creature that attacked us is something of a deity to them although it seems they fear it more than worship it" She sighs looking behind her at the statue.

"Why did it attack the ship? Why did they save us?" Chopper steps in tugging at Robins sheet. "I don't know but the carvings depict that it came form underground and distoryed the city before going to destroy other cities. After it was rebuilt the creature came back but the elders fought it off. It seems to arise every few decades and these frog people have taken it upon themselves to stop it. They were fighting it at the time we came along." She finishes earning a nod form all of you "So we just got caught in the cross fire" Nami sighs looking back at the frog people as they walk back over. The leader starts making hand signals which robin reply's too with her own hands, it surprises you but you glad you now have a way of communication. "What are they saying?" Chopper looks up amazement in his eyes making robin giggle "We'll there just asking if were ok now were back together. they didn't know were we a group" Their much kinder than you first thought, they don't even know you guys yet their willing to help, it reminds you of your Captain. "Thank you" you smile bowing a little at the frogs who do the same "I have a question" Nami sighs rubbing her throat "Why are our throat sticky?" she asks getting annoyed at the feeling. Robin uses her hands to sign the question nodding as the main frog signs back "It's a substance that traps water and let's air pass through allowing you to breath under water. We use it too" It fascinates you and you want to know more but something deep down tells you not too. Nami clearly didn't have the same feeling as you "How?" her question was quickly answered when the Frog opened its mouth and let its long thick slimy tongue fall out of its mouth. Sickness welled up inside and Nami's screams of disgust rang through the room, Robin seemed to just giggle while Chopper freaked out shaking his head and holding his stomach.

A frown creeps across Cricket’s face when Two and Five come in from the back yard delicately stepping and shaking their feet as if in discomfort. Outside, frost coats the walkways and clings to the trees, and a thick layer of snow blankets the lawn. Record low temperatures, the radio had mentioned.

Indeed, when the frigid breeze billows in over the threshold and scatters a dusting snowflakes all over the floor, it chills her to the bone. Pity for the poor hounds settles heavy in her chest. There is no way they can go on their evening walks with Asa without injury to their paws.

An idea forms. When Asa leaves for work, Cricket completes her assigned daily chores in record time. Now, the afternoon is free to devote to her new project.

It is a miracle she has everything she needs: Stretchy fleece fabric in a color Asa won’t detest (she’d used it for making mittens), and leftover waterproof material from the boot covers Asa had asked her to make for…well, she doesn’t want to think too hard about that.

After several hours of trial and error and many fit tests with two very patient dogs, Cricket completes the final stitch just as the front lock clicks. 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞: sadly, i couldn’t put this out on blasty boy’s birthday. i really tried but graduation is coming, which means final grades are due soon. so, i had prioritize academics over my favorite feral boy. The ground was slippery as you jogged to shelter, attempting to avoid falling and injuring yourself. By the time you’d returned, the rain had soaked through your clothes, and you felt an impending cold. Sniffles could be heard as you trudged to the elevators.

You clutched onto your backpack, thankful that it was waterproof unlike the rest of your body. You’d hate it if your notes were ruined.

You must have been dozing off while waiting for the elevator to open because a thunk came to your forehead. Your eyes shot open, blearily taking in Katsuki standing before you, red eyes staring in what looked like discontent. You opened your mouth to speak when he shook his head, mumbling “idiot” under his breath.

You didn’t reply, only looking at him. “Hey, dumbass, the hell are you staring at?” Your eyes widened in surprise as you quickly averted your gaze, embarrassed at him having to call you out.

“Sorry, Bakugou,” you said sheepishly. “I’m just tired.”

“And wet.”

Your mind went straight to the gutter, and you cursed yourself when the blond raised an eyebrow at your non-response response. The corner of Katsuki’s mouth twitched slightly when he noticed your mild panicked expression. “‘m talking about your clothes, dummy. Don’t go thinking weird shit.”

“Sorry…” you mumbled, suddenly remembering why you were apologizing in the first place. You looked down at your clothes. “Right, thanks for pointing it out.”

For some reason, the air felt awkward. You weren’t sure why you felt so nervous as you stood next to him, wondering what was taking the elevator so long.

Today couldn’t be more shitty. Not only had you forgotten your umbrella, leaving you soaked, but now you were standing next to the guy you just embarrassed yourself in front of (you'd been also harboring feelings for him the past few months, but that’s irrelevant). First, you ignored him. Second, you stared at him in a weird daze that probably creeped him out. And third, you misinterpreted his simple observation into something dirty.

It felt like you were inconveniencing the blond. All Katsuki wanted was to get on the elevator, and there you were, staring at him in a daze. Now, he was boring holes into you, and you couldn’t wait to shower and overthink this entire interaction.

The elevator doors opened with a ding, and out came Mineta and Kaminari, whispering to each other about something you were sure you didn’t want to know about. They were so engrossed in their conversation that they hadn’t even noticed you and Bakugou waiting, resulting in them bumping into you two.

You didn’t have time to catch yourself as your still-slippery shoes slid against the floor, causing you to fall. Well, almost. You were already bracing yourself for the impact when you realized that, yes, you were against something firm, but the firm object was also warm.

You opened your squeezed-shut eyes, slowly blinking as you realized you hadn’t hit the floor, which would have been the cherry on top of the horrible afternoon you had so far. Instead, someone’s arm was keeping you steady. While you were initially grateful, it only took one second to recognize who the arm belonged to, and you were immensely embarrassed.

You jumped like a cat touching water. Wrong move. It seemed that you kept forgetting that you were wet, which included your shoes. You almost slipped again - no, correction: you did slip again, but you were also caught again. You weren’t sure what was more mortifying, the fact that you were acting like a klutz or the fact that Katsuki was holding you tight to his chest, preventing you from moving.

“Stop moving, dammit. You’re gonna fall or some shit.” Katsuki’s voice was gruff in your ear, and it was then that you realized how close you two were. Your initial reaction was to run away, but after your previous two attempts at simply moving your body, you didn’t think that was wise. Besides, being held by Katsuki was something both unexpected and highly appreciated.

His warm body was slowly removing the chill that had settled over yours. But when you registered his mouth so close to you, goosebumps speckled your skin. “You good to stand, or you gonna fall again?”

Your response was a nod because you truly did not trust your mouth to not further embarrass you. Katsuki’s arms left you, but not before he righted you on your feet, hands lingering on your waist to stabilize you.

You two held eye contact as he ducked his head to ensure that you were actually alright with a quirk of his brow. You could feel the heat emanating from your cheeks, and you were so glad that he wasn’t holding you so close to him as he was before.

His vermillion eyes pierced into yours, and you began to realize just how rich their color was. You hadn’t noticed how entrancing they were until you heard the most obnoxious non-whispering.

“Oh my god, this is exactly like the movies, Kaminari. They’re totally gonna make out right now.”

The purple-headed pervert was too busy mumbling inappropriate comments to himself to see an angry blond finally stepping away from you and walking his way. “And we get front-row seats. I wonder if they’re gonna have sex-”

Before Mineta could finish this piercing, a hand smacked him on the head, leaving him wailing. Katsuki leaned down, practically squatting to reach the boy’s height. “Wanna say that pervy shit again, hah?!”

“B-Bakugou, let’s calm down, shall we?” A nervous Kaminari stuttered out. He froze when Katsuki’s harsh glare turned to him. “You know what, never mind. Go- go ahead.”

Katsuki redirected his angry and annoyed attention back to Mineta, who was quivering and shaking like he feared for his life. With the murderous look on the blond’s face, Mineta had every right to feel that way.

Before Katsuki could teach the class pervert a well-deserved lesson, a yell came from the opening elevator doors. In the time you and Katsuki waited for the elevator and were now, unfortunately, dealing with Kaminari and Mineta, more people had loaded onto the elevator and joined your little party.

Iida immediately took notice of the situation and intervened in his class-president fashion. “Bakugou, while I’m sure you believe enacting justice will rid Mineta here of his inappropriate actions, you mustn’t resort to such violence!”

Upon having an audience and a decreasing tolerance, Katsuki grunted, releasing his tight grip on the boy, who rushed to safety far away from the blonde, who then rolled his eyes.

“You say some weird shit like that again, and I’ll kill you. Got it, pipsqueak?!”

“Language!” Iida shouted, waving his arm around like he was directing traffic.

All the yelling and commotion was far too much on your tired and overworked body. You heaved a sigh as Iida reprimanded Katsuki and Mineta, then himself as he was too loud. Unbeknownst to you, Katsuki had noticed your despair, prompting him to grab your hand and shove past the group.

Before Iida could voice his grievances about Katsuki’s apparent rudeness, the blond smashed the elevator’s button closed. You blinked slowly at all of the action that just took place.

The elevator hadn’t even moved when you remembered that Katsuki was still holding your hand. As warmth dispersed throughout your body, you had one thought.

ngl i kind of love that ugg (style) boots are back in vogue (ish? they apparently were super in vogue in 2023 at least) like yes, you deserve a comfy ass slipper boot here in the 2020s! they look cute and they are comfy*!

*but they are not good for weather. like they are good for if you live in a place like socal (which is where the company was founded and presumably also like Australia, where the founders got the idea since sheepskin boots had been a thing there for awhile) where winters might get to 50 degrees F and are typically dry af. you can treat them with stuff to make them a little water resistant but they're still not really meant for serious Weather (rain, snow, that gross sludgy snow that's been hanging out in the road for days, etc) and they are also not really functional as a warm boot in very cold weather (like you'd actually want a real winter boot that's waterproof, with traction and shit). just like something to keep your feets cozy on cold floors or in cold houses.

related: growing up in new england, my mom and i were always so distraught at the fashion sold to the whole country that was literally only functional in southern california. like tiny skirts and cozy boots work when it's 50-70 F degrees out and perpetually sunny, but not so much when you've just had 8ft of snow in the space of a month, it's currently pelting down a "wintry mix" and it's 10 F degrees out lol. So much of why fashion didn't work for me as a teen clicked when I moved to socal lol, like "oh, these are the people/the place those clothes were for". (ofc also there's the gender stuff that factored in too) i'm sure there's something there about how applying niche fashion trends nationally is objectively terrible and also really flattening. I feel like it was a bigger issue in the 90s/early aughts with mall culture, but it might still be true (i'm sure there are and were still some niche trends, but it'd be nice if they were highlighted somehow? or if there was less of a monoculture push in the US at least). it is weird that a few fashion voices dictate "trends" for the whole country when different people/locations require different things from their clothes.

THIS asshole……i got it for 50 bucks at a garage sale & for breakfast it chewed on my copy of london calling on tape. the only part of it that hasn’t fucked up so far is the cd player which is pretty much all i’m using it for at the moment. wise advice from the guy who runs the local phys media music & records store: never buy a stereo/walkman/whatever if the brand is someone’s name. for the meantime it’s a shelf for my vinyls and hat collection

next is her. the cd player doesn’t work quite right (skips songs & butchers the quality iirc). when i was still using my mom’s old stereo as my main one i’d use this little sony to fast forward and rewind tapes, since those buttons didn’t work on my mom’s. it’s kind of just sitting there on my floor now !

to be honest i haven’t used this one yet but! she’s pretty & looks brand new. i think it was like $12 at a thrift store. score

the first one i ever got & my favourite & the oldest out of all of mine (1982). but i don’t think that even needs to be said because the sheer size of it gives away its age. compared to my hand it’s massive LOL my only gripe with her is the audio quality… it kind of sounds like you’re trying to listen to a stereo on middle volume while its like 30 feet away from you. there’s nothing wrong with it though its just wear and tear! i got it at a value village with the case and all + the leather straps attached to it are so you can carry it like a purse but i don’t dare try and hold it like that out of fear of the straps breaking

this one is somewhere in the mid 90s range + the second one i ever got + my second favourite! it’s waterproof and pretty much built for running with so it’s the one i usually bring with me out in public! like most of the walkmans i have it has a belt clip on the back (unlike the previous one where the belt loop is a part of the vinyl case) (i have to literally remove my belt to take that thing off which is a little embarrassing to do in heavily populated areas)

i originally got one of a very similar model at a thrift store but there was something wrong with it that made it so you could hear this clicking sound every time you’d play a tape. you could hear it even if the volume was way up so i passed it on to a friend of mine who liked the clicking sound and was in desperate need of a walkman. then i found this one on ebay for around the same price & it was in the box which was cool! nothing really special to say about it…….and i do have the headphones pictured on the box

and this is my most recent score!! ft dookie by green day. i got it at a local vintage shop. it’s old enough that it doesn’t have a rewind button which is kind of neat

radio headphones LOL. same story as that one sanyo up above: found og at a thrift store, and maybe might have broken it by accidentally leaving it in my bag for too long aand it got crushed by my books. it still worked, the plastic just broke so it didn’t quite sit right on your head & was uncomfortable to wear. a friend of mine willingly asked for them and then i found this pair (same exact model) on ebay and got it for like $15 cause i really liked the old one

these are kind of cool!!! if your car has a cassette player and you want to listen to a cd, you can put that tape into the player and connect the cord to a discman/cd player and it’ll play! vice versa for the other one: if your car has a cd player but you wanna listen to a tape, you plug that into the electric cigarette lighter and the cord into a walkman/tape player. these would be twice as awesome if i actually had a car. Lol

then this little portable radio! it’s kind of fun to walk around the house seeing where the signal cuts out & where it gets stronger. the metal antenna actually gets massive when you fully extend it

these are cool too!!! not pictured is the plastic piece that goes between them but i do have it (you can kind of see it behind the portable radio in the last pic). you put your walkman in the plastic piece and connect it to the speakers and it basically turns your walkman into a custom little stereo

and last but not least my dad’s walmart brand mp3 player he gave to me. it has a shit ton of faith no more, david bowie, and glenn danzig songs on it and it doesn’t stay alive for more than 30 seconds if it’s not plugged in

A Matter of Time

(( So, I can't commit to writing a full wattpad story so here's a short story about time travel I wrote last year hehe :D ))

I gripped my jacket in anticipation, my hands sweating immensely. Today was the day. Today was the day when I, Cassian Thatcher, am to be the first person to ever travel time. Sounds fun and exciting right? Wrong. Well, when I first got selected to test it out I felt so cool, I was finally doing something exciting in my life. Plus, I would be famous! So many benefits. But now, as I stand in front of this futuristic door, all the excitement was gone. So many questions were going through my head. What if the beta test fails? What if I can't come back, I'll be lost in history? The only thing standing between me and this… machine is 7 minutes, exactly.

I was currently like a doll, standing with my arms open. Multiple people were checking through my pockets, purse and my whole attire to make sure I was more than fit to proceed. As the person who was announcing the process repeated it for the hundredth time, my ears blocked it all out. Not the wisest choice but all I could here was my exceeding heart beat. It was so loud everyone could probably hear it. I also knew everything by heart so it was no use. It was just that I arrive in whatever the Earth's condition is in the future and around 10 kilometres around me, in any direction should be the exit, a machine identical to the one I am standing in front.

I spent nights in this one lab, touching and observing every inch of this machine, engraving it's every part into my brain. When I look into the sun, the floor- anywhere, I see this exact machine. I could probably mime it if I wanted too. I so wish that I land in a desert or something, no buildings and just sand everywhere. Then it should be easy to navigate the time machine right? "Miss, we are almost ready! Miss? Miss?" called a short stubby man below me, trying to capture my attention. "Uh, yes. Thank you!" I quickly mutter before zoning in. Last night, I made a mental note to recheck all my supplies. Thank gosh I just remembered before it was too late. I was wearing multiple layers of clothing suitable for literally anything. I could take my layers off if it was too hot, keep them on if I was in frigid weather, all the pieces of clothing were waterproof, I had great running shoes, gloves and lots of grip in case I'm in a mountain or something. Over my clothes I wore a jacket that would float up in water- sort of a life-jacket. My backpack contained so many different things I would need. It had heat, cold and water activation food packs, actually I'm not sure what they were, hopefully the back had some information on how to use them. I also had an expandable tent, honestly I didn't even know that existed. I also took the time to memorise almost every single survival book there was, drinking in all the different plants, their nutrients, what they can be used for, warning signs and basically everything about herbology and survival there was. I was honestly convinced my IQ was higher than Einstein's.

A few minutes later, a loud bell rang, bursting everyone's eardrums. Promptly, loud clicks were heard and lights all around the room were cast. Curtains I never knew existed were pulled down to reveal a crowd waiting in anticipation, camera men were around the small square of privacy and personal space we had. Even though I had been warned about how this was an extremely memorable event, it'll be filmed and recorded for history and other useless things I was still pretty shell-shocked. I suddenly felt this new sort of confidence watching the crowds that made me smile, all these children and adults holding encouragement signs and looking up to me. I put on my brightest smile, smoothed down my hair and waved in all my directions, winking at some of the small children up front. Whilst I was busy entertaining the crowds and cameras, scientists in coats and masks to big for them, technicians and other really short people came to make sure everything was running perfectly and going through all their data and machinery.

"1,2,3. Hello, 1,2,3. We are ready to start the experiment." boomed a loud voice in the speakers. People started running around frantically and then after a few minutes everyone calmed down. I was brought forward. The same stubby man who was trying to get my attention a few minutes ago whispered in my ear. 'I was told to tell you that when they start counting down, when they reach one you are to enter the machine. Am I understood?' he asks. "Yes." I reply.

Catching me by surprise, the same voice spoke in the microphone. "Hello everyone, please welcome our wonderful lady who will try out the first ever time machine created! I'm sure you've all heard about her, our amazing Cassian Thatcher! She's honestly the talk of the town- no, the talk of the world these days!" Everyone else started roaring again. I put back on my happy façade and resumed waving to the public. And then the same person behind the speaker kept on speaking, naming all the crew and giving credits and sneak peaks at the process. 'I thought this was supposed to be quick' I think as I stand through the boring talk.

In what seemed like forever, the countdown had started. "5,4,3,2…" When the speaker finally said 1, I entered the time machine. I was honestly hoping for something more dramatic but oh well, I guess not everything was perfect. So now I was officially the first ever person to travel time- well only if this stupid machine works that is...

Time travel is nothing like it is in science fiction. There are no swirling lights or tunnels, just a pain like you're being squeezed through something too small for your body. It feels like every bone is being pulverized, every living tissue feels shredded. At first you can't remember a thing, not who you are, not why you are there and certainly not where in the time continuum you are from or currently in. In that day before your memory returns anything can happen. Before I came here, I was given some disgusting looking medicine loaded with a knock-out serum so that the amnesia phase has passed by the time I'm conscious. So long as I don't land in a dangerous environment everything generally works out alright.

As the pain slowly started feeling familiar, I got the energy to move my limbs around a tiny bit. So, I looked down at my watch, my head buzzing slightly, Pretty useless thing to do but it was a decent distraction. I wasn't usually a person who went to old yard sales but my friend was having one and- to remain 'interested' and being the great friend I was, I went there. Then I saw this watch. Honestly I wondered why it my friend would even sell it. Yes, it may look old and rusty but it could have graced the shelves of any upmarket antique store. It was a thing of beauty, a mechanical dream made of tiny, tiny cogs. I had scooped it up as if I imagined others could see the prettiness I did, yet its beauty was in the eye of the beholder. The wrist watch was a thing I wore as an accessory, that carried great significance. I could see the cogs working within, turning, doing the same thing day after day with reliable precision. That was how I needed to work during my working days. Then, on my free days I left it on a shelf to remind me that I could be the total opposite, doing whatever I pleased.

Soon after the pain seemed to slowly seep away from my limp body, I realised I was out of the time machine. I groaned in satisfaction as I moved my body around. First fingers, then hand and finally the arms. Slowly but swiftly, I cracked my fingers, back, neck and every single limb I owned. My head was buzzing and my ears were ringing. After maybe a minute or so, I got up. The familiar feeling of nausea took over me. I ignored it and took a deep breath. 'Doesn't smell like death or pollution to me' I think.

I slowly open my eyes, squinting at the bright light. When I managed to open my eyes, the sight in front of me took my breath away!
