━─┉┈┈◈♡◈┈┈┉─━━─┉┈┈◈♡◈┈┈┉─━━─┈┉
It was a hot summer afternoon. The heat had been unbearable during the whole day and you were melting in your apartment, hardly surviving thanks to your fan and by drinking some water. You haven't planned anything. You had no more brain cells. You were so tired you wouldn’t be surprised to turn into a vegetable. Yet, when your phone started to buzz several times, you felt a bit more alive. You saw a lot of messages coming from the group chat “Bud Omens” where your friends were chatting often. It seemed they were planning a pool party tonight, at Matt, Noah and Jolly’s place. As they were asking who will be available tonight, you quickly responded, taking this opportunity to go out and socialize with your closest friends, escaping this heatwave.
You : Count me in, boys ! Jolly : That’s my girl. See you there, tonight ;)
You blushed at Jolly’s response, not expecting him to reply first and to be so frank and flirty  in front of everyone in the group chat. Even though the others weren’t paying too much attention to it, moving on swiftly to who was coming with who, who was bringing snacks and drinks etc… However you knew way too well that the crush you had on Jolly wasn’t a secret to anyone. And his flirty teasing was just proving to you how the feelings were mutual. All the signals were telling you to take this opportunity and  confess your feelings to him, but you were scared that might change your friendship. Well would it ? You were purposely taking your time with him, enjoying his company and teasing each other most of the time when you hang out. So, there was nothing you should be afraid to break off at this point. It wouldn’t change much. Maybe it could bring the two of you closer ? You’ll just have to figure it out tonight.
And again, if there was a pool party, this time it could mean only one thing : getting to wear your sexiest bikini. You smirked at yourself, having ideas on your outfit. Yeah, this time you were going to make him lose his mind for sure.
The evening came pretty fast, the heat cooling down so you could finally breathe normally again and not suffocate. You were finishing to get ready, just taking a bag with a towel and new clothes to change. You barely finished applying your waterproofed makeup, just in case, just to feel more confident and hot, before you heard your doorbell ringing. You opened the door and found Nicholas, waiting on your door frame. His car was parked temporarily on the sidewalk, with Folio inside. Earlier in the afternoon, you talked with Nick when he asked on the groupchat who needed a ride as he was picking up the drummer along the way anyway. You replied quickly, feeling reassured to have a driver like him for the night. You greeted the bassist with a smile, and he smiled back.
“Hey, Y/N” He waved at you, “Wow, look at you ! Looking so good. Someone’s gonna steal some hearts tonight” He teased.
You chuckled, satisfied already by your outfit, hairstyle and makeup.
“Thank you, Nick” You giggled, “But I’m only interested in one person’s heart tonight.”
He laughed quietly, again.
“Yeah, I wonder who it could be ? Maybe our Swedish guitarist ?”
“You know too much already” You replied with an amused tone, pushing him carefully with your elbow.
Then you both walked to his car where Folio was still waiting. When he looked up in your direction, you waved at him. He gave you a little thumbs up as he saw how pretty you looked with your hair braided and your nice red summer dress. You thanked him as well, wondering how Jolly would react. The ride didn’t last too long as you three had a little chat in the car. Your little group arrived at the place, music already coming out from the house. Nick parked in the court, in front of the garage before getting out. Bryan and Jesse were the first ones to greet you all.
“Hey Y/N  ! It’s so good to see you again, kiddo ! It’s been a while !” Jesse said to you, playfully, after giving you a small hug.
“It’s been ages, indeed, old man. How have you been ? I hope you weren’t too tired during the tours.” You teased back.
Those nicknames were the roots of your friendship with the lead-guitarist of Erra. There were no bad intentions behind it. Jesse grinned, appreciating your sense of humor as always. You chatted a bit more with him before greeting Bryan.
“Come on, guys ! Get in the pool already before Noah and Jolly start peeing in it !” Matt yelled sarcastically at you five while you were patting Bryan’s back in a hug.
You dropped your stuff inside the house, getting off your dress in the bathroom. With your towel in one hand, you headed to the pool, at the back of the house. You saw the rest of the boys in the water, having fun together. You waved with your free hand at them. After putting your towel on an available deckchair, you searched for Jolly. You noticed him, sitting on the side of the pool, laughing at a joke Folio made. You felt your heart melt at the sight. The way his lips were curled up in a smile, his beard followed the curve and the way his long wet dark hair were cascading on his shoulders. Absolutely stunning.
He must have felt you were staring intensely at him because his look rose up to your direction. You saw how his expression slightly changed as he realized you were wearing your burgundy bikini. You gave him a small smile, while tucking a strand behind your ear, before sitting next to him.
“Hey.” You spoke softly.
“Hi, yourself.” Jolly replied, still a grin on his face.
He moved close to you, bouncing affectionately his shoulder against yours.
“Who gave you the right to be this beautiful, tonight ?” He whispered to your ear.
You smirked at him, teasing him by getting your face dangerously close to his.
“Well, you should ask my parents. They’re the ones who gave birth to me.” You jested.
Jolly chuckled softly to your joke, his gaze leaving briefly your face, as his cheeks were getting flushed. You took this opportunity to play with him by pushing him into the pool. You caught him off guard, as he slipped into the water directly. You were expecting some resistance from him, not to slip so easily like that. It seems he was really on the edge of the pool. You let out a surprised laugh, as the other boys stared at you, puffing in shock.
Yet, when Jolly came to the surface, you immediately stop laughing and breathing. His hair, soaking wet, was falling on his chest with a few strands hiding his tattoos. He looked like a northern god, coming out of the water. You were completely captivated by the sight, your gaze attracted to his inked upper body. You bite your lower lip to restrain a gasp that was about to slip out.
While you were lost in your obvious contemplation, you didn’t notice how close Jolly was getting to you
“So, enjoying the view ?” He said with a proud grin mixed with a mischievous look.
“J-just looking at the tattoos, you know.” You terribly lied, looking away to hide your reddening face.
That didn’t convince him at all. In fact it did the opposite. He kept grinning at you, sliding his hands to your thighs, going surely to your hips. His sudden touch made you startle, not ready for what was coming. He finally managed to grab you by the waist, making you squeak in surprise as he put you in the water with him. You froze in place realizing how cold the water was compared to the temperature outside.
“So, how does it feel, now ?” He smirked.
You glanced at him, peaking his teasing in his tone. Shortly after, you were used to the cold water now, you felt your playful mood coming back. You weren’t done.
“Well, obviously wet.” You replied, getting close to him.
You belted him with your arms around his waist and tried to lift him and throw him in the water. But he was way heavier and taller than you, so your attempt was a bit pathetic. You barely lift him up. You whined in desperation while him, on the other hand, kept grinning at you.
“What’s wrong ? Struggling to lift me up ?” He teased.
“Ugh !” You grunted, still not succeeding “Guys ?! I need back up !” You yelled at the boys who were the nearest to you.
Of course, Bryan and Jesse came to the rescue, followed by Folio and Noah, while the others were peacefully watching the show. The four of them managed to get Jolly under the water. You laughed with them all, also making sure they were not drowning him completely. He appeared a few meters far from the sudden group, making bubbles as he was getting a bit irritated.
“Ganging y’all up against me ? That isn’t quite fair” He pouted.
“Sorry, Jolly” You apologized, feeling guilty, as you swam close to him “Didn’t think four of them will show up like this”
The Swedish pulled you close to him, his grin back again, making you flushed.
“I admit your attempt to drown me was cute. But I will forgive you and those assholes if we beat them in a chicken fight.”
As he spoke those words, Folio looked at Jolly, sparkles in his dark eyes, getting more excited.
“Oh ??! Are we doing it for real ?!”
“Chicken fight !!!!” Bryan yelled proudly, followed by Noah.
“Alright, I’m so hyped. Let’s decide the teams !” Jesse started getting serious, “Bryan and Folio together, Noah with me. And finally, the two love birds in the corner, Jolly and Y/N, you’re teaming up. Is that fine with everyone ?”
“Gosh, this isn’t fair at all ! Noah and you are getting a huge advantage by your height, old man” You pointed to Jesse, pretending to not be affected by his remark about you and Jolly.
Jesse just shrugged at you, giving you a mischievous smile.
“You’ll thank me later, kiddo.” He teased before deciding with Noah who was going on whose shoulders.
Flustered, you mumbled into the water, making bubbles before Jolly swam next to you.
“So stuck with me again ?” He spoke warmly.
“I guess so. But I don’t mind” You replied “Did you plan all of this, though ?”
“Not at all” He shrugged “ I just offered to play the game. To have some fun, y’know ?”
“Right… “ You rolled your eyes, not really convinced. “Come on, we have to win this so I can repay the debt I owe you.” You mentioned.
Jolly smiled and nodded at you as an approval. After you quickly talked about your strategy, he kneeled a little in the water so you could climb easily on his back, before getting on his shoulders. Once you were settled, he straightened up. You hold his head, making sure you wouldn’t fall. Jolly held your tights firmly to stabilize you more. His grip was getting a bit harder on them which made your legs twitch. He probably felt it but he pretended to not notice anything.
And so, the chicken fight began. You saw team Folio-Bryan attacking Noah-Jesse. Both you and Jolly went to them and you took  this opportunity to push with all of your strength Noah. The latter one, being pushed by Folio and you, eventually fell from Jesse’s shoulders. First opponent down. Then, you struggled by pushing Folio on your own. You tried tickling him, everything you could to win. Yet, it didn’t really work. Besides, he was way stronger than you so your chances to win against him were very thin. Few seconds against him and he considerably pushed you off Jolly’s shoulders, making you dive into the water.
“Yeah ! We won, Bryan !” Folio said proudly “That was a tough fight, Y/N ! “
“ ‘Did my best there.” You said, as you resurfaced, trying to keep it cool.
While Jesse and Noah were coming back for a second round, having their revenge on Bryan and Folio, Jolly went to your side, going for a handshake.
“Well done, Y/N ! At least you managed to push Noah off. And I think I got my revenge from earlier when Folio pushed you in the water. No hard feelings.” He grinned.
“That didn’t sound like a compliment at the end, but thanks, I guess.” You jested back, handshaking him as well.
“Do you want to go inside and drink something ? He offered “ I think I’m done playing with them for now.”
“Yeah, same. I cannot say no to a break.”
You two got off the pool and went inside the house, drying yourself with your towel you picked along the way. Jolly was already at the bar counter picking up a bottle of red wine and two glasses.
“I assumed you wanted wine but you can tell if you want something else. We have plenty of drinks here.”
“Don’t bother. Red wine is fine for me.” You replied, joining him.
“Wise decision. Besides, the color matches your swimsuit. Cheers.”
You cheered back at him, both of your glasses clinking on one and another.
“So, you’ve noticed.” You smirked while taking a sip of wine.
“How I couldn’t ?”
“Maybe if you were blind, you couldn’t see it.” You joked, looking straight into his dark brown eyes.
You leaned on the counter, resting your elbows on it and drinking your wine. His glance never leaving yours, briefly looking down to notice a beauty spot on your cleavage, before looking up. He was completely drawn to you. Seems like your strategy was working better than expected.
“Mister Karlsson, what were you looking at, just now ?”
He took a second sip of his glass, still looking at your face.
“Only your beautiful eyes. I was getting lost in them.” He replied
“Hmm, right. Nice catch up here” You hummed “And did they take you somewhere nice ?”
He leaned on you, so close to your face, his body towering over yours, as he gently rested his arm on your shoulders.
“A very nice place, with just you and me. Maybe just upstairs”
“So you finally decided to show me a good time ?” You went closer to him, stroking his torso with your fingertips.
“Well, you wanna find out ?”
You giggled nervously at his flirty words. Then, you softly brushed your fingers against his cheeks, before gently caressing his beard.
“Oh, Joakim, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for you to say this.” You breathe, slowly closing the distance between your faces.
He smiled when you spoke his name, placing his huge hands around your face, cupping it.
You felt his lips against yours, planting the sweetest kiss you ever had. You sensed every part of your body relaxing, especially the knot you had in your stomach for months delaying your feelings for Jolly. Butterflies were flying, flowers were finally blooming in your mind as this gesture was the answer you both have been waiting for.
While you were in your bubble with him, kissing each other so tenderly, you barely felt Jolly’s hands sliding slowly from your face, neck, waist… Until he stopped to your hips. His warm hands were resting on your exposed skin, his grasp grabbing more firmly the flesh of your thighs after each stroke he gave you.
Feeling his touch, you couldn’t help but whimper against his lips. He grinned, already satisfied with your reaction before trailing kisses in the crook of your neck.
You gasped for some air, tilting your head on your left to leave him more access. It didn’t take him too long to find your sensitive spot, below your ear. You felt chills, tickling you. Your knees were already weak under his kisses and touch.
“Jolly..” You retained a moan, holding his forearms to stand still “I don’t think I’ll last long standing up like this…”
“You’re right. Sorry, darling. I got a bit carried away.” He murmured, kissing your forehead so kindly “We don’t want to give them a show now, don’t we ?”
You blushed in embarrassment as you could imagine the others probably staring at you two, from outside. But Jolly didn’t pay any attention to them, too much focus on you and your flushed face. He kissed you again on your lips, reassuring you, before he pulled away.
“Only I can hear you moan like you’re dying to do” He whispered, a sassy tone in his voice.
He didn’t let you reply to that remark as he grabbed your hand in his. You just followed him, climbing the stairs as well while biting your lower lip in nervousness.
Once both of you reached his bedroom door, he suddenly pinned you against it. He took your lips in his, kissing you more ravenously. You didn’t hesitate either, grabbing his neck, brushing his hair with your fingers. His mouth went to the crook of your neck again, peppering it with feverish kisses that made you sigh.
You felt his hands slide along your curves, before halting to your butt. Lifting you up wasn’t something too difficult for Jolly. You wrapped your arms around his neck, while your legs wrapped around his waist. He kicked his door to open it, entering with you still his embrace, before repeating the same gesture to close the door behind him.
“You’re driving me insane” He whispered between kisses.
“Jolly, I want you so badly.”
He made you lay down on his bed, his lips never leaving yours too long. His kisses were wet but hot at the same time. His long damped dark hair which was tickling your body, made you groan. He caressed your neck, also admiring the curvature of your breast. He leaned to kiss the whole length.
“So beautiful and just for me.”
He kissed so tenderly the mole that caught his eyes earlier
“Right there. Gorgeous, even.”
He barely did anything and yet his low voice filled desire, his warmed touch were driving you crazy. You were at his mercy. And you liked it that way.
“Jolly.. Don’t stop there.” You begged.
He obliged, smiling against your skin which made you shiver as you felt his beard brushing it. He went down as you implored him, leaving trails of his kisses. When he ghosted the spot where you needed him the most, kissing your thighs, you let out a whine. You didn’t know what else to do.
“Jolly–!”
“I know, sweetheart. I’m sorry. I will take care of you here soon. I just love being between your thighs” He confessed.
He finally took off your bikini panties before drawing circles around your fold. You just had the time to see his tattooed fingers going to play your clit and when you felt them, you arched your back from the mattress. But this is when you felt his tongue lapping on your clit you started to see stars. The sensation he gave you sent an electric wave in your whole body, making your thighs clenched around his head but not too much. Even though you had the feeling he wouldn’t mind being choked to death like this.
It didn’t take you too long to reach your first orgasm, as you came against his face. But that wasn’t enough. You wanted more. You switched the position, laying him down on the bed, getting rid of every piece of clothes you had left on you and him.
“Your turn.“ You cooed, slowly sitting on him.
“Is it okay like this ?”
“Don’t worry I’m on birth control.” You shushed him with a finger on his lips “Tonight, I wanna feel you, Joakim.”
“Whatever you want, darling.”
You rode him, his length inside of you. Your hips were moving on their own, as you drew circles on his pelvis, which made him more groan. The fire between you and him was sending your skins ablaze. You felt your mind go numb as you kept a slow pace at first then started to accelerate. You bend down to kiss him, licking his lips along the way, to feel his taste. Your hands were traveling on his torso to give you more support.
“Deeper, sweetheart.” Jolly whispered, breathless.
He must have felt you were detaching from the connection of your bodies because he grabbed your ass with his large inked hands to make you stay still on him. You indeed felt him deeper, the pace had been hastened now. You lost track of time as your only thought was him, underneath you. You reached your orgasm with Jolly, him spilling inside.
You felt every inch of him in your bones. You both stayed in each other's arms, panting heavily, as you were coming back to your senses.
“You weren’t kidding about showing me a good time” You articulated, laughing.
“With you, I’m always serious” He chuckled back, kissing your temple “I love you, sweetheart.”
“I love you too.”

Meanwhile, Davee is trying to relax after his difficult day by spending time with Destinee and Kajsen. But even with a sandwich, Davee just can't shake his foul mood.
What he needs is some time with someone who truly understands him! His BFF, his confidante, his silly rabbit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, who's that in the distance, walking towards Chateau Peppers?
As if by magic, Davee's prayers were answered! Kirk Landgraab comes teleporting in through the rain to check in on his bestee.
Davee goes galloping towards Kirk, and wraps him in a hug. Just what our boy needed!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirk may have turned up at the perfect moment to comfort poor Davee, but his true intention was to take Davee to a special location and show him something exciting!
Davee followed Kirk down over the craggy rocks behind his family's mansion until they came to an odd structure…
Tumblr media
Kirk and Davee arrive at the mysterious structure - a cobbled-together, ramshackle hut made up of pallets and other random pieces of wood. Davee is impressed by the builder's ingenuity and ability to handle TOOLs (😊), but he still has some questions…
Tumblr media
Inside The Dojo, Davee asks Kirk what it is and where it came from, and might they have to worry about the crazy person who built it coming back and killing them?
Kirk sets the record straight - HE built it! Yes, lil' String Bean Landgraab himself!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirk tells Davee he built The Dojo specially for them as a place to hang out as GOOD FRIENDS, and get away from their respective BAD HOMES. It's got chairs! Lights! A curtain! And even a punching bag for them to build their muscles!
Davee, naturally, gives Kirk another big hug.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Davee and Kirk sit to chat, and Kirk puts his umbrella back up because despite his best efforts, the roof of The Dojo isn't totally waterproof.
Davee tells Kirk all about his piece-of-poop day, and Kirk assures him tomorrow will be better, and that he is still his favourite 😊

Summertime
Chapter 1
Groaning, the girl reached out to her nightstand to finally shut off the alarm that was beeping for the last few minutes. Annoying, piercing sounds were coming from her phone, as if the world was ending and it wasn’t just another Tuesday. Having done that, she sat in her bed and frowned, looking at the window, seeing the gloomy Jersey weather that was greeting her. She simply hated rain.
New Jersey too.
Sighing, she got out of bed and headed to the little squeaky-doored bathroom right next to the bedroom. A small but functional space, it was dimly lit but even in the near darkness the girl could see her very tired reflection in the mirror. Shrugging, she reached for her toothbrush and, having concluded that there were no cockroaches living on it currently, she brushed her teeth and washed her face, avoiding her eyes in the mirror. As if she would read disapproval in her own face.
Back in her room, she had no choice but to put on jeans, a sweatshirt, black leather jacket (fucking rain), tie her shoes and finally look in the mirror. A pale, long face was staring right back, dark eyebrows and gray eyes still slightly frowning, the mouth set in a strict line. She tried relaxing her look, not wanting to scare anybody (today). Not that it mattered, it was not like she was going to meet anyone in particular – she didn’t have any friends in Jersey (or anywhere actually), she worked in a small café downtown and didn’t particularly care about her clients. They were happy, as long as they got their coffees. That one she was good at.
Her attention turned to her long jet-black hair, still messy. It was annoying, really, having hair that straight – it was always hell to brush through, but it usually sat in a bun on top of her head, so nobody could really tell how bad it looked. And it looked awful today – there was no time left to wash it last night, as the girl spent most of the day, the night and then up to the early morning hours trying to finish a project she was working on. There was paint under her nails and in her hair and dried paint was much harder to brush through or wash off, which is why she landed on the bun choice again.
Her phone beeped again; it was time to leave. Yawning, she grabbed her backpack, stuffed a bag full of art supplies, a notebook and her purse and hastily left the apartment.
Outside, she had to put on her hood, it was still raining, the greasy, gray, heavy city rain she was now used to. It was monotonic, a never-ending cycle of rain and then fog. Fog and then rain. Torture, really. And torture it was to walk in the rain, shoes soaked with water, hands freezing. Good thing her backpack was waterproof, otherwise the art supplies she was carrying to get her through yet another day wouldn’t survive.
Heavy rain feels like drowning, she was thinking while waiting to cross the street that would lead her to the heavenly warmth and dryness of her workplace. Not that she knew what drowning was like. She imagined it would feel suffocating and inevitable in the same way this rain felt. She could feel it everywhere, too – every part of her was now contaminated with the toxic liquid. Gross, really.
Finally reaching the door, she walked inside, inhaling the sweet smell of roasted coffee beans, freshly baked pastry and fried butter. The café was not a big one – only a few tables and one to two people working at a time; it was not a place where tourists (who the hell wanted to go to Jersey on vacation?!) or busy working people were coming – it was more of a local, hidden spot and it had an usual amount of clients, almost the same every day, mostly old people who liked the calmness and quiet, and sometimes some teenagers, who liked the cheapness. That was really it, but it was a nice atmosphere, no loud music, no busy people, no shouting, but not much of a conversation either – the girl has noticed for the time she was working here, that most people came alone and wanted to sit in silence on their own, without friendly (but inevitably forced and usually stiff) conversations from the staff. She was fine with it, that gave her a lot of free time which she spent working on her projects, hidden behind the counter.
Today she arrived just in time to see the first client approaching the door, while she was putting her work apron on. It was an elderly man who always took the same order, as most customers here did. While she was preparing it, her thoughts were occupied with the fact that she only had a week to finish her piece and it was nowhere near done. It was the whole reason she had stayed up so late last night – she was struggling. She didn’t want to admit it, but that might turn out to be the first time she would fail to present work she liked. Or any work, which was far scarier.
Forcing a smile, she turned to hand the coffee cup and the croissant to the man waiting and while she was giving him his change and nodding to his ‘thank you’, her hand reached down and pulled up her backpack, determined to do some work. Seeing as there were only her and the now munching on his breakfast man in the shop, rain splashing hard on the windows, there was nothing else to do except focus on the sketchbook.
***
Hours later, after just one or two more clients, a routine check from the manager, and non-stop rain, the sky was beginning to darken outside, which meant it was probably around five – a mere hour before closing time. The only noise to be heard was the quiet music from the old TV, the slight buzzing of the lights, the occasional clanking of the cutlery (if there were people) and the vigorous scratching of pencil on paper coming from behind.
Sighing, the girl had to admit that the idea she had was not working out. Why did it look so bad? So… dull was probably the right word. Everything about her sketch was dull and not only because it wasn’t ready yet. It just didn’t feel right, something was missing, and she had spent the last week trying to find what it was, but it was nowhere to be found. Miserable, she reached for her coffee (free consumption) (probably not that good, she was a coffee addict) (great coffee though) and while taking a sip, deep in her thoughts, the door opened and there was the unmistakable ring of the bell. A client.
Only he opened the door so suddenly and came in so quickly (undoubtedly because of trying to hide from the rain that was STILL pouring, damn you, Jersey) that it closed with a loud slam. This startled the cashier, who was so deep in thought, head bent over her drawing, that she jumped and spilled hot coffee all over herself and her notebook.
“Ouch!” she exclaimed, trying to figure out what exactly had startled her while simultaneously saving her drawing.
Quickly raising her eyes, she identified the source of the noise, who was still standing on the door, aware of the chaos he had caused involuntarily. Locking his gaze with the cross girl, he turned a slide shade of pink and meant to leave, only to hear:
“Are you going to order or not?”
He took a breath and turned back, inspecting the interior of the café he didn’t really mean to come into – he just needed shelter, he was trying to go home (which was mere meters away from the shop) after a long day, but the thought of coffee seemed appealing, even though it was almost dinner time. Not that he would have dinner. He was just tired of being cold, to be honest.
The small space was empty, except for the slightly mad barista, who was still looking at him, waiting for an answer. He noticed a green splash of paint in her black hair, which was loosely tied in a bun, and idly wondered if she was repainting her room neon green. Not that he was going to ask her, she looked like she wasn’t in the mood for jokes, and he was almost sure that this didn’t have everything to do with the door accident.
Reaching the counter, he chose a black coffee and while she was preparing it, he had the chance to look at her closely. She was pale but that seemed to be her normal complexion, given the cold gray eyes, which were determined not to look at him. Her brows were furrowed in what he suspected were thoughts of troubles beyond his simple coffee order, because she had purple shadows under her eyes and her hands were slightly trembling while handing him his cup, indicating lack of sleep, something he too struggled with sometimes. She finally met his gaze and forced a smile.
“There you go.”
“Thank you,” he murmured, taking the cup from her hands. His gaze dropped and landed on an open sketchbook; the one she had undoubtedly just poured her coffee over. He couldn’t help but notice the sketch under and hesitated for a second.
“Everything alright?” the girl asked, seeing as he was just standing there, staring at nothing.
“Yeah, just… is that yours?” he nodded towards the notebook.
She followed his gesture and her eyes widened at the sight of the destroyed sketch she had forgotten to shove aside. Her cheeks turned pink, and she was aware of it, being so pale there was no way it wasn’t obvious.
“Um, yeah, but it’s… kind of destroyed now.”
It was his turn to be embarrassed. “Yeah, sorry… sorry about that, I didn’t mean to…”
“… break the door?” she was looking at him crossly, but he thought there was a hint of amusement in her face. Maybe she was enjoying seeing him embarrassed.
“I suppose?”
She shrugged. “It’s fine. Wasn’t very good to begin with.”
He frowned. It seemed… the drawing, despite now being smudged and probably unrecognizable, had seemed almost professional to him, that was what had given him the courage to ask her about it in the first place.
“I think you’re wrong. It’s very good, even though it’s now…”
“… vomit? Yeah. Well. I didn’t really like it before either, so don’t worry,” her sharp voice was clearly giving her mood away.
He didn’t know why he kept just standing there, awkwardly holding his cup. He couldn’t seem to leave, wanted to talk to her about her art; surely, she was an artist.
“Anything else I can help you with?” she nudged him impatiently, wondering what he possibly saw in her wet sketch, which was in her opinion really, honestly not good even before she made a mess.
He seemed to hesitate, but then spoke.
“No, I just… I just liked your art. It’s yours, right? Are you an artist?”
She sighed. Her mood wasn’t the right one to be having a friendly conversation with a stranger. About her art, nonetheless. She never discussed it with anyone, not that there were many people who asked her, of course. He wasn’t leaving though, he was staring at her, expecting an answer.
“Well, I don’t know. I draw a lot. Does that make me an artist?” she tried to smile and looked more closely at him. His messy hair looked like it was… not dirty, but not taken care of, either. The eyes staring at her were hazel, warm and looked welcoming, although constantly fidgeting and looking around left and right.
“I suppose not, but that’s not just a drawing. It is art. It has you in it.” He flashed a crooked smile and took a sip of coffee.
She was a bit taken aback. What did this random guy, with his messy hair, dressed in a worn black (wet) sweatshirt and some dirty old Converse (that left mud she had to clean later) know about art, let alone about her?
“How do you know?” she couldn’t help herself.
He shrugged, “I think so. Do you draw it for yourself or…?”
“Well, I draw for myself usually, but this exact one is a commission. I am selling comic book drawings to a magazine.”
It was his turn to be surprised. “Really? Which one?”
She smiled slightly, and this time genuinely, and replied with the magazine’s name.
“That’s cool,” he said but thought it was much more than cool. She shrugged.
Taking a sip of his coffee, and deciding it was finally time to leave her alone, he went and sat himself on a table next to the window.
It was still raining, and it didn’t look like it was going to stop anytime soon. He did have to get home and take his stuff for the gig tonight, but the thought of leaving the warm and dry table and heading out was very unpleasant.
By the time he had finished his coffee, it was completely dark outside, and it had (surprisingly) stopped raining. Thinking about the fastest route to the gig, lest it started raining again, he stood up and his chair scraped the floor with an obnoxious sound.
“Fuck!” he heard the girl and turned around, hoping that he hasn’t caused her to spill something over her work (or herself) again.
Thankfully, he hadn’t, she was just looking at her phone with the most disgusted facial expression. He hesitated but since there was nobody else, he decided to ask.
Again.
What was with him today?
“Something wrong?”
She swallowed. Everything was wrong. She didn’t want to meet his eyes.
Not in the mood.
“No, sorry, just… it doesn’t matter.”
He kept looking at her. She could feel his burning hazel stare. Damn it.
“It’s just… they want my piece ready sooner than… than what we agreed on.” Her voice trembled in the last part of the sentence.
“But I will be fine. The worst that could happen would be I don’t submit one this month. Not fatal.” She tried to reassure herself.
“You sure?” his slightly nasal (and very Jersey) voice asked again with what seemed to her to be genuine concern.
She nodded and glanced at the clock. It was almost time to leave, she should be cleaning up the place. His mud, mostly.
He noticed her look and headed for the door. Turning, he saw her reach for the cleaning basket in the back.
“Bye,” he murmured and left.
Outside, on the cold pavement, he took out a pack of cigarettes and lit one, inhaling the smoke, allowing it to fill his lungs and relax his mind. Always a bit nervous before a gig, he looked down and saw a splash of petrol in a puddle creating an interesting palette of colours, the most prominent one being bright neon green. Smirking to himself, he dropped his cigarette in the puddle and watched it float.
“Not great for the environment,” a voice behind him said. Turning around, he saw the girl locking up the café. As she put the keys in her pocket, she came closer to him.
“Have a cigarette?” she asked, almost sighing as she did so.
Given her mood, he could totally understand the need for something to cheer her up, which was why he silently gave her the box of cigarettes and a lighter and watched with the corner of his eye how her shoulders relaxed as she took in the smoke.
“Thanks. It’s been a… day.” She looked at the distance, her eyes following the speeding cars, her brows furrowing, deep in thought.
He could see she didn’t have a particular desire to go home (or wherever she was going now) but he hoped that she wouldn’t stay on the sidewalk the whole night. She seemed like she might do it.
“Well, I better get going” he said, and it was true, he had the gig not long from now. He thought about inviting her but didn’t want to seem like a creep. Wasn’t sure she’d like it, too.
She nodded, turning towards him. Standing next to her now, he was surprised to find out how short and tiny she was, just like a little girl. Her head was slightly tilted up so she could talk to him, and he wasn’t tall at all. She was wearing a leather jacket, but he thought she seemed cold. Her face was so pale that her gray eyes seemed dark in the dimly lit street. She exhaled smoke.
“Thanks for the cig.”
He nodded and turned around to leave when he saw the petrol puddle right in front of him. He stopped to look at it and heard her going away, her feet quickly pacing on the pavement.
He cleared his throat and turned to face her. She stopped and turned around, confused.
What does he want?
He smiled, his hazel eyes meeting her gray ones.
“You have paint in your hair.”

Costuming Research - Greyson Ives
So... I've been reading a remarkably compelling kink fic (Ginger and Mint). And because I'm a historical costumer (and also insane), I feel compelled to figure out exactly what these characters would be wearing. This is a long one, so most of this is under a cut.
So, to start out... When and Where are we?
Well, it's a fantasy world, so things aren't strictly bound to a real world timeline. But to get a basic handle on things:
-Horse-drawn carriages, buses, trains and cars are all mentioned.
-Trains seem to be the most common form of long-distance transport, even among the wealthy and powerful.
-Bean-bag chairs exist.
-Subsistence level hunting is very much a thing
-Yearbook photography is a thing.
-Electricity doesn't seem to be specifically mentioned.
-Letters seem to be the main form of long-distance communication.
-Mass-communication, like radio, phones, and the internet don't seem to be mentioned.
-No one seems to have to fumble with things like lights and stoves
So, to me, this feels like a late-19th/early 20th century world. (I'm going to say been bags are timeless). The setting is vaguely American/European, without directly correlating to a specific location.
Now, to get a little more character-specific. Let's take a look at Greyson Ives, reluctant hunter and equally reluctant di-mage.
Deer Woods, Greyson's home town, very much has the feel of a small Appalachian town. The exact industry that keeps it running is beyond the scope of the story, but IRL, these were often mining communities. Places like this can seem frozen in time, often decades behind the fashions of the big cities.
The Ives family in particular are borderline-subsistence hunters. Poor, even within a poor community, they actively disdain any kind of excess or even perceived wastefulness.
So, what materials would they have available?
Leather and fur could be easily procured. I imagine that probably sell the higher-quality furs and hides, but they probably have the wherewithal to tan hides for bags and waterproof outer garments.
That being said, leather really doesn't breathe. You need plant fibers (cotton, linen) or animal fibers (wool, silk), which would have to be bought. Considering the Ives family disdain for excess, I can't imagine that they'd actually buy bolts of fabric to sew up, or new-made clothes. Instead, they're probably buying used garments, regardless of quality, and wearing and repairing them until they go to pieces. (This is less a region-specific thing, and more an Ives-household-specific thing. Ben, the shopkeeper's son, while still quite poor, probably owns clothes made in the last decade.) For fibers, anything made of silk would be beyond their means, but linen and wool are quite durable, and, depending on the specifics of fiber production for this world (beyond the scope of this fic) cotton might be within reach.
Whatever color the clothes started out, they're likely to wear down to a fairly uniform grey-brown. (While synthetic dyes would be available in period, I cannot imagine the Ives household springing for Sundour to brighten their wardrobes.) If they dye their clothes at all, it's likely to be with locally available natural dyes, in fairly dark colors. (I'm picturing black walnut husks.)
Let's look at some sources! (Yes, I'm using Wikipedia as a source, because I'm lazy.)
So these are miners from Montana in 1889. This is probably actually a little nicer than the stuff Greyson would have access to, but could hypothetically be typical for Deer Woods in general.
Images of "Mountain Men" might be more useful (though a lot of these pictures would be deliberately sensational.)
Yep, that would be a cotton/linen shirt, with a fringed leather jacket.
Not a photograph, but I think this catches the archetype.
Another conclusion from looking at these: at least while still working at home, Greyson probably needs to wear a hat. Something durable, of either leather or wool felt.
So, my headcannon on Greyson's wardrobe at the beginning of the story: undyed cotton muslin or linen shirts, heavily worn and heavily patched/darned. Possibly woolen sweaters for the winter, likewise heavily darned. Woolen pants in dark colors, typical for the 1870's/1880's. A leather jacket, probably long, possibly fringed, for bad weather. (Though Greyson's jacket is later described as "threadbare", so it might actually be made of wool, instead) A haversack, likewise made of leather. Any buttons would be likely to be made of wood, antler, or bone. While hunters in turn-of-the-century Appalachia *absolutely* had the time and skill to decorate their clothing and accessories, the Ives family austerity probably means all of these are minimally adorned, if at all.
But! There's a change at the Midwinter Ball! Greyson actually gets new clothes! Which means we get to look at turn-of-the-century formalwear! For a description, we get a "smoky grey formal jacket"
Now, I'm partial to the evening wear of the 1890's, so I'm inclined to give Greyson a tailcoat. Something like this:
Tumblr media
Bramley is described as wearing a bow tie, which would exist by this point (though I'm very tempted to stick the man in a cravat, on the ground that cravats are cool.
I'm going to do everyone a favor, and spare Greyson the truly ludicrous facial hair common to the period (as fun as 19th century mutton chops and mustaches can be), and assume he's clean-shaven.
Anyway, that's... way too many words on one character's costume! Next up will be Elliott Vale, and a dive into the finer side of men's fashion. The girls are going to come last, since that's going to require considerably more digging.

If you use a gas or ventilation system heater put a bowl of water before the vents/flame. If your air dries out, though it might look like you would want that, your nasal canals dry out. If they dry out they crack and you're like 5 times more likely to catch a cold. If there is a ton of moisture in your house this isn't necessary, but get a cheap greenhouse humidity monitor and watch that shit.
If you make wood or coal fires, bar checking the chimney, properly clean out all the ash between fires, and have proper ventilation in the room the fire is in. Carbon monoxide kills, do not let it catch you unawares. You need a proper and strong flow of air going through the room. There's a myth that carbon monoxide is heavier than air. This is not true, it disperses evenly throughout the air most of the time. If you can get a carbon monoxide sensor installed, do it.
Vacuum seal windows and draw blinds and curtains at night. There are kits for this I believe, it doesn't get too cold where I live so we don't have them, but I believe it's like heavy duty cling film sheets that you tape down around the window frame, then you vacuum out the air. Vacuums are fantastic insulators, and if you can create them around your house by sealing the windows? Great.
Use the sun! If you have south-facing windows in the northern hemisphere or north-facing windows in the southern hemisphere those puppies are completely uncovered during daylight. No blinds, no curtains, not even sheer curtains. Get as much heat from the sun into your home during the day as you can.
Hot water bottles are good, but if they puncture or burst you're now not only burned by the hot water, you're also wet and rapidly cooling. At worst, get a moisture absorbing cover, at best switch to bean bags or if you can afford it ceramic bead heat pads. You can heat them in a coal or wood stove, or in a microwave if you don't have blackouts. If you're shivering, focus it on your core. Stomach, chest, pits, back, neck, crotch. If you're not shivering but your extremities are cold, put them on your hands and feet.
If you have to walk somewhere or bike somewhere in the cold, get sheepskin boots and jacket, waterproof that shit. It's gotta be wool pointing in suede pointing out. You can waterproof it yourself by rubbing beeswax all over it, especially in the seams, and using a hairdryer or heat gun to melt the wax in. You will have to redo the wax. If you're vegan, though I will disagree with you on the ethics and sustainability of using pleather over real animal skin, pleather outer is fine, waterproof on its own even, but just seal the seams. Be quadruple sure that the synthetic fur or fleece is hollow fiber.
Sheep fleece doesn't have to be attached to the skin to be effective, it can be sheered off the sheep which does not harm the sheep and actually benefits them. Same goes for any fleece. The warmest is alpaca, sheep is pretty high up there, while cotton, linen or bamboo fleece is not an animal by-product but much less effective at retaining heat. Felted fleece is more dense and therefore more effective at retaining heat, but it is heavier, uses more of the fiber and often scratchier. Natural. Fibers. Shrink. If you knit or felt or weave your own stuff you probably already know this, but just in case you don't wash natural fibers in cold water, and air dry. You can iron them without issue but don't tumble-dry them.
The reason I know these things despite living in a warmer climate is because one, I have a shit heart so my circulation is shit and with it my internal heating system, and two, I'm poor as shit and can't afford an electric or gas heater. I had a gas heater my parents loaned me when I was away at varsity, but my landlord threw a fit about the fire hazard so I had to figure out how to stay warm using my clothes, heat pads and blankets.
COLD WEATHER TIPS FROM SOMEONE WHO LIVES WHERE IT’S COLD:
I always see posts about layering clothing, but there are so many more creative ways to help keep you warm if you don’t have a lot of warm clothes. But first, a note on layering clothing:
-Your underlayer is your WICKING layer. That means it is a layer specifically to absorb the moisture your body produces. DO NOT USE COTTON AS A BOTTOM LAYER. Use merino wool if possible, but other good substitutions are nylon, polyester and rayon.
-Your middle layer is for insulation. You want AIR POCKETS in there, NOT tight fitting clothes. This is where you want to put your fluffy sweaters, your fleece, down, fur, flannel, or vests. If you do not have these, you can substitute with multiple layers of long sleeve shirts.
-Your outer layer is for keeping the cold away from your body. If you do not have a jacket, you can put on your thickest piece of clothing and then a raincoat over it. Windbreaker if you have one.
ALSO
-Jeans are the absolute worst at holding heat. Use only as a last resort.
-You can’t really ever have too many layers on your feet. Alternate tucking your layers of pants into your layers of socks to keep your ankles warm!
-Wear a hat OVER a hood if it will fit! This will keep your ears warmest.
TAKE OFF/OUT ANY AND ALL JEWELERY/PIERCINGS
-If you have a medical bracelet, DO NOT REMOVE IT. If you can, tuck a layer of clothes between it and your skin.
NON-CLOTHING TIPS:
-Raid your recycling. Gather all cardboard boxes and break them down so that they are flat. Put them on the floor to add more layers between you and the cooling house. Newspaper will also serve the same purpose.
-In an emergency, you can also layer newspaper between clothing layers. Don’t worry about looking stupid if you’re staying warm.
-If you have a tent, set that sucker up in whatever room you have decided to stay in. Stay in it and keep it zipped shut as much as you can, but do NOT cover the vent at the top. You can put the rain fly up, but make sure there is circulating air for you to breathe.
-You are probably not going to feel very hungry at times. DO NOT STOP EATING OR DRINKING. Digestion produces a lot of body heat and the food will give your body energy to keep itself going.
-The best foods are heavy and full of carbs and proteins. Eat nuts, eggs, pasta, meats, and beans. If you are on a diet, now you’re not. If you’re vegetarian… bulk up on those pastas and nuts.
-Try not to sweat. If you are finding yourself getting damp, take off the outer layer just until you start to cool slightly. Then redress! Your bottom layer should dry quickly, and being wet is dangerous.
-On that note, STAY ACTIVE. You are probably going to want to hunker down and snuggle up, but that will make your muscles cramp. Every 15-20 minutes do something that gets you up and about. Walk circles in the room, do a couple jumping jacks, stretch, whatever. Just enough to move some blood around your body. Don’t get sweaty or out of breath, it’s just a little movement.
-CHAPSTICK. ON YOUR LIPS. ON YOUR NOSE. ON YOUR EARS. ON YOUR KNUCKLES. Don’t let your extremities get dry or cracked.
SIGNS OF HYPOTHERMIA:
-Uncontrollable shivering -Slurred speech -Confusion or memory loss -Dizziness or lack of coordination -Inability to be woken from sleep
CHILDREN AND INFANTS!!!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
-Children WILL get colder before you. Make sure they are properly bundled up.
-If you need to breastfeed, put a blanket over the both of you and wait a few minutes for the air to warm before removing or shifting your clothing.
-DO NOT COVER AN INFANTS FACE. ESPECIALLY WHEN SLEEPING. Keep them tucked inside your own clothes when possible. As close to your heart and stomach as possible.
-Put chapstick on children’s cheeks and clean their face often if they are crying or wiping at their nose. This will prevent cracked skin and irritation.
-Make sure your children are staying as hydrated as you! They are going to fuss and not want to drink cold things, but they NEED liquids.
SIGNS OF HYPOTHERMIA IN INFANTS AND TODDLERS ARE DIFFERENT:
-Shortness of breath  -Cold, red skin -Lethargy or listlessness
Finally:
CHECK ON YOUR NEIGHBORS. CHECK ON CHILDREN. CHECK ON THE ELDERLY. STAY SNUGGLED. STAY SAFE.
