MSE 127: Tune In Friday's & Sunday's, AND The #MSE Mastermind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welcome to #MusicSecretsExposed! As I record this podcast, it is February of 2022. This weekend just passed is marking the second week of our first documentary series publications. And if you want to know more about our new documentary series, which was launched last week, check #MusicSecretsExposed and you'll see the links that documentary series
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A very interesting story. And it covers the life of a modern-day composer. So visit that website and take a listen to those episodes. You'll find it an enthralling story as the week's go on. This Friday marks a very special two-part interview series and it's about the story of Russell Garcia. He was a composer and arranger that worked in Hollywood for many a year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he also led an extremely interesting and purposeful life. It really is a story to tune in for part one is airing this Friday at 8pm GMT 12 Noon PST, so make sure you tune in for that one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a really interesting story. You know, we think about composers of the past eras such as Mozart and Beethoven and many more besides, well, you're about to hear the story of a modern-day composer with similar capabilities as those older composers had in their day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So really is a must listen to episode. Now for the next about 10 or 11 weeks or so the documentary series I referenced at the beginning of this episode will be ongoing. Those publications are going out on Sundays at 12 Noon PST and 8pm GMT. And again, it's just a story where you'll just be taken into another world that will automatically enthrall you with the pictures and visualizations of all of the stories that you will hear in that documentary series. So tune in on Sundays, at 12 Noon PST 8pm GMT.
Now, over the last month or so, the team here at MusicSecretsExposed have been really working hard in preparing resources and services for musicians of all kinds to help and support them in whatever chosen genre of music or learning in an effort to try and just give them a community that they can connect into.
.....and find like-minded people and have discussions and learn from each other and have a good have fun along the way too. Now very soon we are going to be starting a monthly MusicSecretsExposedMastermind And if you go over to the website, MusicSecrets Exposedmastermind. You can sign up there. There's a contact form. If you go down the page, there's a contact form there and you just put in your details there. And we will inform you when the first mastermind will come off. The whole purpose of this mastermind really is to get musicians together in one space where we can discuss aspects of musical challenges, maybe or gain advice about certain aspects of musical performance even. Because in a group of like-minded individuals, there can be great wisdom shared and we also want to have a bit of fun as well. These masterminds will be hosted over zoom. So probably you would need a computer or a phone for the best effect. And we hope to see you there when it comes off. So go over to MusicSecretsExposedMastermind and you can sign up there on the page there. It's just simply scroll down, put in your details. And that's all you have to do and we'll do the rest. Now if you haven't signed up to our newsletter yet, go to Musicsecretsexposed where you can sign up for our newsletter. which sent out both one time a week. https://blog.musicsecretsexposed.com And it just keeps you up to date with all the happenings all the new episodes coming out of the podcast. And remember, if you have any questions, or you have any challenges, or if you'd like to see some new content that maybe we haven't thought of here in the podcast, reach out to us because we'd love to hear back from you. We can be found in all the social media, social media profiles, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, Twitter, you can also just reach out to us with a voice message from MusicSecretsExposed, or over here on the podcast website . So you can find us in a great number of places. https://twitter.com/musicsecrecy Now we're heading into the season of exams. And I know I keep referencing this every week, but it's just that being a tutor of 20 years, to be honest, when we head into this part of the year, the thoughts of exams and preparing for exams and getting things really up and ready is forefront in tutors minds as well as young musicians learning. In the first 100 episodes of this podcast, there is a lot of content there that if you're worried about why you should be doing oral tests, or why do you have to learn scales? Or how do you handle the nervous energy? When you're facing a performance? How do you deal with all of that kind of thing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you go back to those episodes, you will find a lot of content there. And if there's something that's really bugging you, always send me an email where we can answer your questions as well. Now, I wish you a great week and tune in on Friday for a fascinating story. It's really a very, very special story. This week's episode and it will be aired from 8pm GMT on Friday 12 Noon PST and also tune into our documentary series as well, which is again published on Sundays at 8pm GMT 12 Noon PST until Friday. MSE 126: Covid, Artists, Copyright & Thinking Independently
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey, hope you're doing good. as I record this podcast, it is the very end of January in 2022. Just about to head into springtime, which is wonderful here in the northern hemisphere. As I remarked in last week's podcast episode last Monday, I referenced that we are just turning one year old in the past few days, the #MusicSecretsExposed podcast And I have to say, it's been a fantastic year, meeting so many people on the interview slots which we host of a Friday. And also it's been very exciting, and a fascinating journey to undertake the first documentary series, which was just published this past weekend. Now, if you haven't heard the beginning of that documentary series, just tune back into the episodes there on Friday. And yesterday, Sunday, to hear the early episodes of that 12-week documentary series, which will be released weekly every Sunday. And if you want to learn more about the documentary series, just head over to music Secrets Exposed podcast.com and you will find links there in the episode directories.
Today marks a very interesting music story day in the mainstream media.
And I think it's highlighting this whole idea about music streaming, and the power that these big applications such as Spotify have in artists lives. Joe Rogan, as we all know, is the biggest podcast in the world. And he seems to be attacked by many on spreading disinformation regarding the COVID story. Now, I'm not going to express an opinion on this podcast about my personal feelings about all of that, we all have our own individual opinions concerning what we see to be true, real or false. DECODING COVID However, artists are now getting involved in the whole backlash against Spotify, hosting Joe Rogan's podcast, and standing in solidarity with Joe Rogan, meaning that because he has certain opinions that he should be kicked off Spotify. It has led to this situation where Joni Mitchell is standing in support of Neil Young, in taking all of their music off of Spotify. Now, I'm not going to get into this debate, but it's just highlighting how the world has changed regarding music. And how that back in the early 2000s, back into the 90s, of course, and all that music was a very physical thing where artists could sell CDs, they could sell cassettes, they could run events, they could do all that kind of thing, to make a very good living, and to enjoy what they're born to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the question that needs to be asked about these streaming sites, and the main big sites like YouTube, Google, and all of these is when it comes to copyright law, and artists trying to get their music out into the world, now that we've passed beyond the days of the CD, and passed now into this whole realm of downloadable streaming media, where does copyright sit?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who has the right to tell an artist that okay, you're good to go, you're good to stay on Spotify? But if you break a rule, oh, you're at risk. And the thing that I have seen because I've been researching this over the last couple of weeks, in particular, is that, as an artist, you have to be so well informed that if you want to upload your music onto the streaming sites, you should be so informed about the terms and conditions about copyright, and where you stand as an artist. I recently heard a story from one particular artist, that he signed his music over to a distribution company. He never got paid. And the copyright was completely in their realm. He had no rights to his music when he signed that terms and conditions sheet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All I'm saying to you, as a musician, listening to this podcast. The world has changed and what that means is there is no this need to become so well informed that hours, unfortunately, have to be spent going through time terms and Conditions, going through licensing, going through this whole notion of........ like, what are you actually signing? We all maybe have heard before into the music world about those horror stories where people sign their music, they don't get paid. It's a complete disaster. And every Bob that's made on behalf of the artist is given over to a record company or an agent. We know those stories, all I'll say is to use a musician don't get caught. But I think nowadays, it's very good to start thinking, independent and be your own independent business person, linked in with being an artist. And when I see stories like this on mainstream media today about the Joe Rogan experience clashing with Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, which are huge names in music in the past 30,40,50 years, you know that there's issues there that are just really important to get informed about as a young artist starting out as a musician trying to get your feet under you. Look, the world is made the way it is now with technology. That means though, that we have to think independent just because, in my opinion, YouTube says something or Google says something, we have to think independently for ourselves and make our own decisions, not to get led by others. And that way, then as an artist, you can happily create a life for yourself performing, you can make your own business model work, and you can create your own independent music, and make it pay for you as an artist. This is a huge topic, and I'll admit it, I'm not an expert in this. And I am only raising this today in this podcast episode. Just to get you as a musician, or a young artist, or even somebody who just wants to put your music online. Just do your homework, get well informed. I'm hearing stories and some are good and summers shaky bad. So just do your homework. Now leaving that aside, tune in on Friday for the next interview slot, I'm going to be talking to a very interesting family connected to a Hollywood composer by the name of Russell Garcia is a fascinating two part interview series. Starting Friday of this week, you will learn about jazz music and Hollywood and how this amazing composer created so much music and what he did. With his success. It is a beautiful, beautiful story. So tune in for that on Friday at 8pm GMT 12 Noon PST. And also tune in on Sunday for the next episode of the documentary series with waterfall music. I'll tell you that story is going to enthrall you as that series continues week to week you will be taken on a journey that you won't have heard about anywhere else. Also, stay tuned to this podcast episode every Monday here, where we're going to be launching some interesting resources in the near very near future. I know I keep repeating this on the podcast every week. But it's we're working on it and it's taking time. And by the end of this month, you will be hearing about new services new resources to help you as maybe a musician trying to get off the ground. Or you as a musician maybe learning your craft trying to hone your skill trying to perform better trying to gain that confidence to get up on a concert stage. So keep tuned to this podcast because we are going to be talking about those issues and supporting you in new ways concerning all of that. Now before I complete this episode today, I just want to bring to your attention that for many of you listening to this podcast, you may know somebody who's in the throes of preparing maybe for some form of a music exam. It could be a performance exam, it could be a traditional technical music exam. And we're heading now into the time of year where the highest numbers of students take exams that being the late spring early summer period. Now on this podcast in 2021, we covered a lot of detail about how and why you should learn certain aspects of music. So if you check back to the episode directories over at music Secrets Exposed podcast comm you will see that there are links there to episodes that might help you on your journey as you go through this preparation period in view of upcoming exams.
