I have nothing against women with muscles, I am a fucking athlete myself. However, I know from experience that you can't possibly excel in both school and sports; that's just unrealistic. Also, you can totally be a bookworm and be as far away from the Hermione stereotype as possible; the way I always imagined Dorcas, while she was bookish and introverted, she was by no means shy, but, instead, detached and uninterested. (1/2)

Also, a woman doesn’t have to be cruel to be badass; Dorcas’ portrayal as “ruthless killer and warrior” is rather one-dimensional and doesn’t allow room for her to grow as a person. (2/2)

AN ATHLETE WHO WASN’T GOOD AT SCHOOL - WHAT A ONE DIMENSIONAL PERSON YOU ARE. here is my experience : i swam competitively for 10 years with meets MOST weekends. I had practice before & after school. most weekends, i left school early fridays & meets ran through sunday. i maintained a 4.3 GPA in the number 6 ranking high school in my state. my brother played baseball at duke for 4 years & maintained a 3.9 GPA. in between races, i studied MY ASS OFF to succeed. being in the library is only H A L F useful if you do not put your those theories into practice. which my dorcas does time & time again. your inferences are flawed & you can’t see her for a multi-dimensional character because it is skewed with the opinion in your head that should not be stuffed down my throat. she is built upon my psychological & educational studies along with my historical research of WHERE she is born & what is happening day to day there.

I HAVE NEVER STATED CRUELTY MAKES HER BADASS. she is heavily flawed, yes, but if you want to know my opinion on the subject matter ASK, don’t be ignorant & assume you know everything about my character that i have written FOR MORE THAN FOUR YEARS because i will pull things up that you have never seen before like the fact that i never explicitly stated she was good at school. she studied non-stop dueling techniques from other countries & the past to advance her powers. she is bored in school, but her uninterested personality aids in that as she hones in on what she wants to know. again, she puts in the time ( like an athlete ) to place theory to practice. you can read about volleyball all you want to, doesn’t make you a good player. at last, she doesn’t play quidditch, so she has time on her hands at hogwarts. again, an inference you can’t seem to see. SHE HAS FOUR YEARS OF GROWTH, ask my long time writing partners to see if she hasn’t.

maybe to learn about characterization, you should have paid better attention in english & figure out her themes, her wants, her desires, her goals, her ambitions, her flaws, her contributions instead of just solely focusing on cruelty. & ask yourself W H Y is she cruel. because you have the one-dimensional thinking, friend. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE MY DORCAS, THEN FIND A NEW ONE BECAUSE YOUR OPINION WILL NOT CHANGE WHAT I HAVE BUILT.

also, bubbles ( @waterbendertm, @caediteos ) sends you her regards : yes, a woman doesn’t have to cruel to be badass, but how dare this person take away the power we women give ourselves when we do make them angry and when we do make them able to kick someone’s nose in, and when we do make them vengeful and when we do make them focused on war, and if we do make them every bit as masculine as we damn want to? fuck them.

ok i’m gonna be real and let ya’ll know that when i first saw atla back when i was a teenager, i didn’t rlly care for k.ataang. i didn’t hate it, though. it was just kinda there. and then i rewatched it after that and i was still indifferent except this time i thought it was so typical for media to push a male and female character together– i thought this about all the canon pairings in atla at the time. i never cared for any of the ships whether they were canon or fanon. i think the romance in a kid’s show was a lil too much for me when i was younger (for reasons i don’t want to get into lmao). all the characters have very interesting dynamics with one another and all the characters got along just fine so i didn’t feel like there was any need/emphasis for romance.

BUT!!!

as i grew older… and especially on my latest rewatch… katara and aang are so cute together whether that’s platonic or romantic. i don’t care what any1 says. ya’ll gotta rmr that when atla first came out, i was 14 yrs old and the series aired from my age 14 thru 17 yrs. i was young af, i was totally different person back then. i’m 27 yrs old now. twenty-fucking-seven and i’m a totally different person now as an adult. i’d like to think i understand life a lot better and i def understand love a lot better.

not to get into a random sob story but smth i always wanted that atla emphasized was this idea of a family like finding a family in other people (like ur rlly good friends) who are not biologically related to you. i never rlly had a good relationship w my family when i was younger and nor did i have many rlly good friends. but as i got older, i got exactly that. what does this have to do with k.ataang? well, katara and aang have that love for each other that was built on friendship. they are good friends, they are family, and they are good romantically probs because of all of that. we all heard of that saying that we should fall in love with our best friend and i think these two got that in a natural, beautiful way.

i know aang had a crush on katara from the start but, honestly, can u blame him lmao! in s1 he was like 12 yrs old and he was totally crushing on this cute girl who essentially saved/helped him. every1 wants to argue that it was “puppy love” as if ya’ll never had a crush on anybody ever lmfao. god. so what if it started off that way? aang grew up, his love for katara grew, and katara grew to love him in return. aang never pushed katara to pick and choose between him vs someone else who caught her eye bc aang’s not like that at all. yeah, he wanted katara’s attention in a romantique way but he’s not the jealous or possessive type and honestly that’s one of the things i love about him. aang isn’t jealous or possessive. i think if katara didn’t like him that way then he’d be upset but he’d get over it because his love for katara who is also his friend & family is more important than losing her completely.

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. i think all the characters went thru growth and change on an individual lvl but also together. that’s no different for katara & aang. both of them grew up partly cos they had to but partly cos it was just inevitable on their travels w all the shit they went thru but they also grew together. honestly there’s just sooooo much history tied to aang and katara like i can’t even deal w just thinking about it lmao!!!!!! even though i was sad that aang had died by the time lok came out, what i did enjoy was this whole… little world… that he and katara had built together. and you know what? not just together with one another but a whole life between them and the rest of their found family. there’s history there and legacy and stories to reminisce about. and that’s honestly so beautiful to me???

if there’s one thing we should know about sokka & katara’s relationship, it’s that these two are fiercely protective over one another. they worry. they care. they’ve got each other’s backs no matter what. when atla first starts, we are introduced to sokka, katara, gran gran, the rest of their water tribe, and this overwhelming sense of family. i don’t mean just between sokka & katara but i mean outside of biological relatives as well. sokka & katara both seem to have familial values instilled in them and a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that their mother passed away and their father had to go off to fight in the war so all they had was each other, gran gran, and their tribe.

eventually we see that this expands to aang and then the rest of the people they meet along the way throughout their adventures. katara seems to be more open to giving people a first chance and seems to be the one who is more welcoming to the idea of becoming family with outsiders. i don’t mean to say that sokka isn’t cos he definitely is but katara is... kind of a sap. and so is sokka in a way but he tries to keep it to himself, lmao! until later on in the series, that is. now i haven’t kept up with the comics so this is all purely show based and based on my memory. i guess what i’m tryna say is that both katara and sokka have a lot of love for each other and for other people as well and it is beautiful.

anyway, to backtrack a little. after their mother died and father left for war, katara definitely took on the nurturing motherly role and sokka felt the need to be the “man of the house” or the protector of the family. i think both of them were definitely hurt over everything that happened with their parents that they took these roles too seriously without even realizing it and before they met aang, it’s really kind of all that they were. i don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way but they both needed to grow up and learn a lot about life. both of them taking on those roles (katara being overly motherly and sokka being overly protective like a father) was definitely straining to their relationship in the beginning.

i have a feeling that when they were younger, all of this really just stifled their relationship. of course they cared about one another but i bet they both found each other really fucking annoying more frequently than not. they were both controlling in their own ways and i’m sure they both found that annoying about one another. sokka especially had to unlearn his negative views about women and all of that was really fucking frustrating for katara to deal with. i really do believe that after meeting aang and finally leaving the water tribe that they both learned to grow individually and together. they’re good on their own but, honestly? in my mind they’re a team and they always have been and they always will be.

their relationship is honestly so good and so pure. like one of the best sibling relationships ever. they don’t wanna kill one another, they don’t hate each other, lmao. i know they get annoyed with each other but they get along way more than the occasions they don’t get along especially later on in their lives. they’re siblings, they’re family, but they’re like rlly good friends too??? it breaks my heart that in lok sokka isn’t present. sokka & katara are like ride or die, honestly. they really fucking are. it makes me sad and angry that they did that to him and katara was left all by herself like that. i hate it lmao.
