tips for golden sun's combat from me to you:

1. pay attention to the combat dialogue after you attack an enemy. specifically, pay attention to the punctuation, because it changes depending on whether an enemy has resistance or weakness to any given element.

in pokemon terms a period ("monster takes x damage.") means your attack is not very effective, a single exclamation point ("monster takes x damage!") means your attack is normal, and three exclamation points ("monster takes x damage!!!") means your attack is super effective.

this also applies to your own characters, so be aware of this and make sure you have someone that can cast resist or have a few djinn on hand that can boost it (make sure to get flash in suhalla desert it provides the single best defensive buff in the game for a single turn)

the game does not explain this to you at all

2. you can manipulate the RNG for monster drops in both GBA games such that by using a specific order of moves and attacks, you can force the game to give you the rarest item on that monster's loot table

granted you also really need to be into grinding out levels in order to learn the attacks necessary to manipulate the RNG, but if you have a lot of patience it's worth it
