Question: how does one safely use boiling water to wash their hair?
I have no hot water at the moment and aside from dunking my head in ice and hoping for the best, I don’t really have a good way to properly wash my extremely thick hair.
#pondhead rambles#gotta love living in a house as old as your parents#we sprung a (natural) gas leak last week and due to that we can’t use the hot water heater#I can stand the ice cold five minutes showers to cleanse my body but my hair is another issue#I just need ideas#it’s been years since I had to go this long without a proper wash#which sounds super privileged but i don’t really care right now

my vicious cycle is that I will be so tired at work and can’t wait to get home to sleep then when I get home I am no longer tired so I stay up which results in me being tired at work and wanting so badly to go to bed
#FOUR MORE HOURS. then when I get home I can only nap because the water heater is leaking so my dad#turns it off most of the day and my chance to brush my teeth and stuff is when he’s leaving for work#and I can’t mess with the water heater myself bc it’s in his closet and I feel he’ll just Know#I’ve been in his room

this week has been fucking awful I just wanna lay down somewhere quiet w my gf and cats. holy shit
#1. my painful wisdom tooth was found to have gnarly intricate hook that’s already grown into my sinus cavity.#so. removal and recovery and cost are going to make me explode already#2. my cat the next day was diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer after we found a mass under her tongue that can’t be removed.#and is not realistic in cost vs the fact it’ll probably keep returning since it’s an area that’s difficult to fully remove.#she’s having a harder time eating and it’s just reminding me of the same thing that happened to my extremely beloved childhood cat.#same thing happened to her until she was just bones and couldn’t stop drooling. it’s so painful to feel the life leaving something you love#3. our motherfucking upstairs neighbor’s god damn water heater broke and flooded all the apts under but we’re directly underneath.#bro I woke up to water pouring from our CEILING LIGHTS and cracks all over the ceiling. I had to physically smash the smoke alarm#ripped it from the ceiling since it’s ceiling socket was LEAKING but it shorted out and wouldn’t stop so I ripped the battery out#our carpet and shit is all torn up now with industrial fans and dehumidifiers. but it’s scaring my sick cat to not eating. it’s so sad#4. a towing place I forfeited my old ruined car to keeps sending notarized legal letters about it ending up In Situations.#despite the fact I signed it all completely over and it’s no longer my responsibility#there’s more but I’m tired of typing all this shit#coffee shop forgot to give me my donut and the coffee tasted bad too. that part isn’t any big deal at all lol it just made me start crying

no hot shower for me tonight. but i will be channelling my inner medieval peasant and heating various pans of water on the hob for a bath.
#also no heating for me tonight or tomorrow or the day after or maybe even the day after that#in fact who knows when i'll get heating back :)#which is great because the temps just dropped from 15°c to 7°c#anyways. the water heater is Broken and Leaking and there's a Damp Patch on the ceiling#and i saw this 5 minutes before we had someone come to view the house#and ive called Multiple plumbers and im waiting for one to call me back because he may be able to come out and check tomorrow morning#but i think he forgot about me#so earliest is monday afternoon w/ someone else#we think we'll have to replace the whole thing but god knows how much that'll cost. alternatively we could get a combi boiler#which would be more efficient and space saving#but that's minimum like £5k#in the meantime we had to turn off the heater and drain out all the hot water#but i just :) i think the thing is. id spend anything if we werent hoping to buy a new place/move#but with the economy as it is we really dont want to take thousands of pounds out of our house deposit fund#and speaking of someone put an offer on our house today but they offered like £30k below the valued price and we were like#haha absolutely not. sorry but we cannot afford to do that#and the price is only like £8k more than what we paid in 2020#and i have no idea if my pharmacy managed to order in my meds and im almost Out again#and im not on them today so i have mad fatigue#and keep almost falling asleep#and im just done w it all. especially after all the horrible shit that's happened this week. politically. in the usa and germany etc#and all the other shit that's happening across the globe :)#im so sorry this is such a stupid overshare but i am so sick of things happening#tbd

Why you need to keep main line shut off valve in working condition ?
To prevent plumbing disasters and ensure your home is protected while you’re away, it’s crucial to keep your main water line valve in good working condition.
Before you leave, consider the story of the Johnson family, who learned this lesson the hard way. They were excited for their two-week cruise, dreaming of sunsets and relaxation. However, they didn’t close their main shut-off valve before they left. During their vacation, a small leak in their water heater turned into a burst pipe, which ultimately led to a significant flood in their basement. When they returned, they faced extensive water damage and costly repairs. By closing the main shut-off valve before your departure, you can avoid such plumbing disasters.
Shutting off the main valve stops the flow of water into your home, effectively preventing leaks, bursts, or floods from causing damage. This simple action ensures that if any part of your plumbing system were to fail, there would be no water supply to fuel it.
Additionally, for long vacations, draining the water from your water heater can add another layer of protection. This step prevents potential issues related to freezing temperatures or slow leaks, further reducing the risk of water damage. So, as you finalize your vacation plans, take a moment to safeguard your home. Close the main shut-off valve to protect against leaks and bursts. This small precaution will help ensure you return to a home that's as carefree as your time away.
