We'll still likely need something equally shatterproof for transporting things, and while aluminum might be an option, it can't be made transparent, and some things may need to be.

If your city has no recycling plants, you can't recycle. You can find alternatives, like reusable containers, but eventually you're gonna have to put something in the trash.

Aiming for reduced waste is better than shitting on yourself for a system you didn't create, and then still doing the same things anyway.
