You know when you get stuck in like a rut for a couple weeks (or months, y'know) where you just kinda feel blah and like you're doing the same thing over and over and it's stressing you out and then one day you realize "wait I can just do some human things and no one's gonna stop me". Have you ever feel this?

wolves of the beyond reader here, a poor handling of its disabled main character is just the beggining

the society the dire wolves live in is super messed up. disabled wolf pups (and even premature pups) are seen as cursed or whatever, so they have a designated wolf, always a barren she-wolf, take the pup to a place that will basically guarantee its death. if it lives for a day or two the leader of the pack will take it back and it will be abused for the rest of its life. you know all the misconceptions about omegas and stuff? yeah. it’s like That

the main character, faolin, was found and raised by a grizzly bear that had just lost her cub. eventually the bear dies, and faolin sees a dire wolf pack hunting. at the end of the hunt, the pack starts eating. he witnesses the “omega” of the pack groveling just so he can get some food and is put off by that

some stuff happens and eventually he joins, and he’s not really happy. he makes friends with the other disabled wolves from all the different packs and clans (except for the wolf in his own, heep)

there’s this whole watch that guards the ember of hoole made up entirely by disabled wolves, and it’s a really prestigious thing. only one or two can get in at a time. they’re very respected, and somewhat feared

also there’s a feminist clan

the lore is very intriguing, and the story is interesting, but there are a LOT of problems, ESPECIALLY at the very end. i don’t want to spoil too much, in case you decide to read it, but there’s this whole thing with “fixing” their bodies, and it contradicts earlier lore from its sister series that it derives from, guardians of gahoole

i knew it was connected to guardians of ga'hoole, shame that it seems to have so many issues. i know about the ending, sad to hear there's a lot of problems :( i might check it out later though!

OMG HI AZ. HI HI HI HI fuck ok that is a very good question.

oryx because i've been thinking about him lately... he's a doctor, so very analytical and has similar interests to mel (though he LOATHES that fact.) often reads nonfiction, usually factual things like studies of the brain and soul magic. despite being a physical doctor, he reads a LOT about mental disorders & the like. if you asked him what stories he liked, in terms of fictional ones... he'd probably like something like evangelion. he'd definitely watch house md, and find the medical practices funny. though again, humans don't really exist in this era so house md wouldnt.,... like.,......happen . eva either. but like HYPOTHETICALLY. you know.

mel will read anything and everything. stories, anatomical reference books, automotive mechanic books, pre-koboreal invasion literature, fucking give him a 600 page book on cleaning bathroom floor tiles he Will Read It. he wants to KNOW shit. he fucking HATES movies, but because he's a contrarian there are some instances where he'll watch them. he can't sit still long enough to watch entire hour long movies/episodes etc but if you give him something to do while listening in the bg he'll be set for life. he's ME so he'd watch what i watch, mp100, dunmeshi, murder drones (he would LOVE murder drones. ep 4 would make him hungry for oil, which is dangerous because he works as a mechanic on occasion LOL) you could never get him to admit it but he's probably watched twilight. he's a vampire and he LOVES wolves. (i... don't share this trait. i haven't watched twilight. mel would NEVER watch true crime/horror movies. not because he's scared of them or anything similar, because he much prefers when the violence is actually happening in front of him, ESPECIALLY when he's the one doing it. don't forget he is a mass murderer & a cannibal who enjoys violence.

draco is illiterate. she's not stupid, but she, similarly to me, struggles in investing herself in a story unless she really clicks with it/its characters or story. she probably likes MAKING stories more than reading them, honestly... the issue with that though is that she can't write because of her claws. she's too insecure about her own opinions to think too hard about characters & stories and even MORE so to even share them, but maybe at some point she read with magmivit, & they helped her write! you gotta consider she was living away from civilization with nothing & no one but her freak ass of a mom & crazy bitch dad out in the woods, she never had stories, so she really likes them. she'd much rather cozy up and struggle to read a book than go out and do something on her own, unless the "doing something" involved being useful for others. stories that are more blunt & obvious in their delivery but still handle mature themes would be good for her... atla, mlp, guardians of gahoole would be good for her. i think she'd like warrior cats if it didn't make her sad.

TROUT! manga reader. anime watcher. she's kind of a weeb... DEFINITELY WATCHES RWBY & AMPHIBIA & HOMESTUCK my main inspos for her were ruby, marcy & june after all . haha. she watches eva because of oryx, when your weird adoptive cat uncle/past life recommends you a show you HAVE to watch it. she doesn't *read* a lot, she likes picture books & comics more than big walls of text because of how easily she's bored. action movies would be something she likes. she's museful, but likes to shut her brain off sometimes. not very character-analysis-y, prefers when characters are easy to read & relatable.

chieftain kate macnamara (chieftain of macnamara clan, previously skreeleen of macshepherd carrag gaer)

lieutenant gaz macgarrick(son of garreth macgarrick , heir to macgarrick clan)

lieutenant johnny mactavish (son of tarrin mactavish, heir to mactavish clan)(named for john)

captain john (former lord of the western smoke pack of the macgarrick clan, now captain of a slink melf)

note: these designs are placeholders

none of that will make sense unless you’re a gahoolehead probably but the wolves are in clans. each clan has a chieftain and then each pack in the clan has a lord. a slink melf is a kill squad! but what’s happened here is john, who was a lord, gave up his position to form a unique long-term slink melf (they’re usually formed for specific situations: eg, if an animal with rabies is discovered, and then dissolved) that can function in a similar way as and in tandem with the sacred watch and guardians of gahoole. so he created his taskforce :) it actually has more than just these four (like roach!) but i will get there when i get there.

a gyre soul is a soul that reincarnates. riley the wolf dies :( and then ghost the owl is born and by fate is drawn to return to join the taskforce :)

clans:

macnamara- this is a canon clan from the books that i kept as i really like it. it’s a clan formed largely by battered she wolves escaped from the macheath clan, and they exist in opposition to the highly patriarchal society of the beyond. kate is their current leader. farah is in here with alex (males are allowed, lmao, it is not a girls only club, just matriarchal) and i stole alpine from kortac to become captain gytha of the brittle pine pack

macheath- this is the only other canon clan i kept, partly because it functions in tandem with macnamara and partly because it’s convenient to have a shitty dickhead fucked up clan, and it’s an important part of riley’s lore. I haven’t put anyone in here yet but Krueger and nikto are sort of asking for it

mactavish- breathed a HUGE fucking sigh of relief that at least one of these bastards has a name that actively matches the naming scheme. this is johnnys family clan, it’s pretty small and rather northern but the territory has excellent hunting, and the clan has exceptional relations with the macgarrick clan so combined hunts on each others’ territory are regular. with the macheaths on one side and the outermost on the other, they often get outclanners passing through. john’s slink melf is often based here for that reason.

macgarrick- kyle’s family clan :) it’s quite a large territory but not densely populated. they are the champs of keeping an eye on things. sort of viewed as the most important clan? they have a lot of political sway due to their policy of generosity and being quite good at managing conflict. they do not let shit slide.

macshepherd- speaking of sliding shit, this is the clan that sort of represents america? idk. everything that shepherd’s running. the shadow company is here as the shadow pack, run by lord graves. the macshepherds are expanding their territory rapidly and they’re in conflict with their neighbour,

macgarza- our cowboys :] well, one of them. valeria was the heir to become chieftain until she disappeared tragically (more on this later) and now alejandro is. las almas is there in the pack of the soul ladder (the soul/star ladder is a wotb thing and this pack is located next to the spirit woods!) and jagged creek pack is based off of that delightful swim our lads took in mw2. macgarza are not happy with macshepherd.

macerikson- it’s kortac! led by that finnish guy. idk. konig is a lord up in the northern pack, mace is lord of the black glass pack, horangi is a captain, more to come

banger music, loved the camera work with the flying and thought the behind the scenes information made it even more cool

(I’m not gonna say Top Gun 1986, BECAUSE THAT MOVIE PISSED ME OFF, love it to death but I will notice small things every time I watch it and I yell at Charlie and at Maverick and then I cry for Goose lol the pain I go through.)

👶 : how old were you when you first touched a warriors book? howd it happen

I couldn't tell you the exact age but wcs has literally always been around for me considering i was born in 2001 and the first book was 2003. I'm sure the second I was able to read I was already grabbing at it. I DO remember that I read pretty much all of Omen of the stars out of order. I'd just grab whatever book I hadn't read yet from the library regardless of series or order LMAO. It was fun though I liked connecting the dots afterwards for what had happened. I think I read dawn of the clans out of order too and I never finished it bc I never found a copy of the Blazing star.

Surely, I'm sure it coincided with others though since all I read was a kid was xenofiction or like dragon books. There was one I've always meant to back to that I haven't seen other wc heads talk about, The Tygrine cat, I always always forget its name and have to do a mad search for it. But I remember it being really cool, it was like a stray egyptian cat who stowed away on a ship and ends up joining this group of other cats living there, there was drama that I remember being hooked into. Also warriors was definitely first but I also loved guardians of gahoole deeply as a kid and I'm still very fond of it, I re-read them all maybe a year or two ago and I immediately want to do it again.
