huh so. watership down. is a solid book. solid. book. compelling characters, thought through world building, build up and payoff in good amounts, somehow pretty hopeful despite the ongoing danger and threats throughout. like. damn. nice.
and honestly. less tragic than i was expecting! excellent. holding these little rabbits in my hands.

You know when you get stuck in like a rut for a couple weeks (or months, y'know) where you just kinda feel blah and like you're doing the same thing over and over and it's stressing you out and then one day you realize "wait I can just do some human things and no one's gonna stop me". Have you ever feel this?
Mhm! So these past few months I've been in said rut where I more feel like I'm not living and I'm rotting away blah blah blah my life is an endless round of monotony that I don't know when it will stop but it will and I have to trust that
And then I watched Hairspray
Kid you not! I watched Hairspray and then I watched more movies and then I started to create again and do art practices
And I'm still not. Living
I'm still in limbo
But it's getting better, very slowly it's getting better^^

Guess That Rec: Round 1, Poll 11
Rec #21
Do you want to see a neurodivergent-coded protagonist grapple with his world, and more importantly, his feelings (often murder-y, but eventually delicious angst)? Do you want to see a queer-coded non-white guy tackle religious bigotry and the fucked-up-ness of his own life? Do you want to see a girlboss with her tits out? You can watch this trio - and a further diverse cast - be thrown into wars between genocidal cults, morally gray militaries, and a shadowy, corrupt institution that really calls the shots - ALL IN SPACE!
Rec #22

wolves of the beyond reader here, a poor handling of its disabled main character is just the beggining
the society the dire wolves live in is super messed up. disabled wolf pups (and even premature pups) are seen as cursed or whatever, so they have a designated wolf, always a barren she-wolf, take the pup to a place that will basically guarantee its death. if it lives for a day or two the leader of the pack will take it back and it will be abused for the rest of its life. you know all the misconceptions about omegas and stuff? yeah. it’s like That
the main character, faolin, was found and raised by a grizzly bear that had just lost her cub. eventually the bear dies, and faolin sees a dire wolf pack hunting. at the end of the hunt, the pack starts eating. he witnesses the “omega” of the pack groveling just so he can get some food and is put off by that
some stuff happens and eventually he joins, and he’s not really happy. he makes friends with the other disabled wolves from all the different packs and clans (except for the wolf in his own, heep)
there’s this whole watch that guards the ember of hoole made up entirely by disabled wolves, and it’s a really prestigious thing. only one or two can get in at a time. they’re very respected, and somewhat feared
also there’s a feminist clan
the lore is very intriguing, and the story is interesting, but there are a LOT of problems, ESPECIALLY at the very end. i don’t want to spoil too much, in case you decide to read it, but there’s this whole thing with “fixing” their bodies, and it contradicts earlier lore from its sister series that it derives from, guardians of gahoole
i knew it was connected to guardians of ga'hoole, shame that it seems to have so many issues. i know about the ending, sad to hear there's a lot of problems :( i might check it out later though!

OC QUESTION!! :D
which kind of stories do your ocs like? (can be any oc) like, how we read books and watch shows, which kind of stories would your ocs like?
OMG HI AZ. HI HI HI HI fuck ok that is a very good question.
oryx because i've been thinking about him lately... he's a doctor, so very analytical and has similar interests to mel (though he LOATHES that fact.) often reads nonfiction, usually factual things like studies of the brain and soul magic. despite being a physical doctor, he reads a LOT about mental disorders & the like. if you asked him what stories he liked, in terms of fictional ones... he'd probably like something like evangelion. he'd definitely watch house md, and find the medical practices funny. though again, humans don't really exist in this era so house md wouldnt.,... like.,......happen . eva either. but like HYPOTHETICALLY. you know.
mel will read anything and everything. stories, anatomical reference books, automotive mechanic books, pre-koboreal invasion literature, fucking give him a 600 page book on cleaning bathroom floor tiles he Will Read It. he wants to KNOW shit. he fucking HATES movies, but because he's a contrarian there are some instances where he'll watch them. he can't sit still long enough to watch entire hour long movies/episodes etc but if you give him something to do while listening in the bg he'll be set for life. he's ME so he'd watch what i watch, mp100, dunmeshi, murder drones (he would LOVE murder drones. ep 4 would make him hungry for oil, which is dangerous because he works as a mechanic on occasion LOL) you could never get him to admit it but he's probably watched twilight. he's a vampire and he LOVES wolves. (i... don't share this trait. i haven't watched twilight. mel would NEVER watch true crime/horror movies. not because he's scared of them or anything similar, because he much prefers when the violence is actually happening in front of him, ESPECIALLY when he's the one doing it. don't forget he is a mass murderer & a cannibal who enjoys violence.
draco is illiterate. she's not stupid, but she, similarly to me, struggles in investing herself in a story unless she really clicks with it/its characters or story. she probably likes MAKING stories more than reading them, honestly... the issue with that though is that she can't write because of her claws. she's too insecure about her own opinions to think too hard about characters & stories and even MORE so to even share them, but maybe at some point she read with magmivit, & they helped her write! you gotta consider she was living away from civilization with nothing & no one but her freak ass of a mom & crazy bitch dad out in the woods, she never had stories, so she really likes them. she'd much rather cozy up and struggle to read a book than go out and do something on her own, unless the "doing something" involved being useful for others. stories that are more blunt & obvious in their delivery but still handle mature themes would be good for her... atla, mlp, guardians of gahoole would be good for her. i think she'd like warrior cats if it didn't make her sad.
TROUT! manga reader. anime watcher. she's kind of a weeb... DEFINITELY WATCHES RWBY & AMPHIBIA & HOMESTUCK my main inspos for her were ruby, marcy & june after all . haha. she watches eva because of oryx, when your weird adoptive cat uncle/past life recommends you a show you HAVE to watch it. she doesn't *read* a lot, she likes picture books & comics more than big walls of text because of how easily she's bored. action movies would be something she likes. she's museful, but likes to shut her brain off sometimes. not very character-analysis-y, prefers when characters are easy to read & relatable.
THJANK UOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING ME THIS I LIOVE QUESTINS ABOUT MY; OCS. *DIES

its quite rare to see gahoole fans these days so i was very happy to come across your ocs ! i was just wondering what's their entire deal ? and does this take place before/after canon events ?
dont i know it ;v; and ah thank you thats sweet to hear!
honestly they're still in the very early stages of development, so my thoughts about them are changing all the time. i think its taking place vaguely in the same age the books do (maybe earlier???) but the only connection it has with canon events are the legends of hoole. i originally was going to have it take place fully after canon buuuuut i think im just gonna do my own thing!
in my head their story can kind of be split into two parts now, cain's story and elynora's story.
i havent fully decided how cain starts off, but i do know he eventually goes on to conquest through the warring clans in the northern kingdoms with this singular goal of unification, which, once elynora is born, will eventually extend towards the south. he was in large part inspired by how lackluster nyra felt to me on a reread of the books, she very quickly becomes a villain of the week with the ease of which the guardians foil her plans in each book. i wanted an owl villain who was truly clever, ambitious, and saw the strengths of others and utilized them to their fullest, which cain will do--when i had originally set the ocs after canon events, the battle of the ember (and ezylryb's books) was meant to be an inspiration for cain, while the rest of the owl world eventually forgets that sense of connection in a moment of great need.
elynora is a stolen egg in a corrupt home, however loving it may be. she's grown up pampered, adored, and with anything she could think to ask for, but every owl in the palace is afraid of her, she can never go two steps without being closely watched, and has no friends except the one her father picked out for her. eventually she flees her home to the beyond when she learns of her origins through buford, and though i have a Lot more scattered thoughts about elynora, im not sure what ill keep about her or not. ultimately, she was hand-picked and crafted by cain for a great destiny she's now avoiding for as long as she can while he keeps pushing her closer and closer towards it.
its really still pretty barebones rn :'D i just started in on rereading wotb and have a few wolf oc ideas bouncing around now for when elynora goes on her beyond adventure, and ive been really Looking at some ocs i barely got the chance to use and have been considering adding to the gog universe, since ive already decided im playing fast and loose with canon anyway. (and also, theres bear books now??? which i guess are not going to be finished??? but establish the wolves come back ???????? idk. if the wolves can leave and come back in the span of soren's lifetime i can make new species for my funny little ocs in the gog world)

Thing!!
Got tagged by the lovely @crownedinmarigolds and it's been a while since I done one of these 👀
SO here are my submissions for this 9 People You'd Like To Get To Know Better situation!!
If y'all wanna play I'll throw lassos at these folks! 🤠 @dragomirthewizard @tweltchy @zoominalong @renaissancebadboy @redratt @mrfrunky @dabblingindissent @its-sixxers @shaydh
3 ships: I haven't engaged with "Canon" content for so long that I can barely summon up any concept of canon character x canon character. What media do I even like?? It is a mystery to me… After some very diligent digging into my past and present interests I have these raw uncut gems to present for you ✨
▫ Fallout 4: Danse X Hancock | A shit game that gave us some alright characters but couldn't give them good arcs. We live for good intimate tension and it could have been real between these two with their respective storylines if only the envelope had been pushed 140% farther.
▫ Destiny: Ikora Rey X Eris Morn | I've missed a lot of the recent content but I can dig it. It's one of the more reasonable ones.
▫ Warhammer 40k: The Emperor of Mankind X Malcador The Sigilite | That monster knew love exactly once and no one can convince me otherwise.
first ship: The Matrix: Neo X Trinity X Morpheus | My parents loved these films so I saw them maybe once a month growing up. I'm probably the person who's watched the Matrix the Most. Anyway these three are poly af.
last song:
last film: Guardians of Gahoole - the war-owls movie | We watched it on Christmas because I forgot we owned it and I also forgot how hard that movie fucks, like it pulls no punches for a "If Tolkien wrote Owls" narrative.
currently reading: Priests of Mars | Graham McNeill
currently craving: My second coffee of the morning ☕☕☕☕
fav color: I like oranges and yellows, and blues and greens!
relationship status: Happily married!
last google search: "Dark Souls death screen generator" Most of the jokes I make on Discord hinge upon this macro creator
current obsessions: ▫ Baldur's Gate 3 ▫ Vampire: the Masquerade ▫ TTRPGs with the crew (💋💋💋 y'all are awesome and I love you alll) ▫ If you can count "being stressed about tax filing" then I am also obsessed with tax filing 🤙
