hello!! i just wanted to ask- i wanna do an ouat rewatch bc CAPTAIN SWANN but its pretty long and i honestly dont care for the other characters/how badly the overall writing was handled.. which are your favourite captain swan eps? anything them centered and i think ill just skip around to rewatch their romance as they did invent romance 😭😭 ty in advance <3
they absolutely did invent romance, you are right about that and i love them so much
UHMMMM as far as my favorite CS eps, here’s a roadmap of what I personally consider key eps in their journey (some of this is from memory but I haven’t done a full rewatch in a while so i’m going through the episode list as a refresher)
2x06: Tallahassee--this is a must-watch ep for any CS fan, and I really think this is the episode that sparked the fire that CS would become as a fandom. It has everything--flirtatious banter, all kinds of tension, deliberate parallels drawn between Emma and Killian’s pasts, as well as their first meeting being intercut with her relationship with Neal (which serves, especially in hindsight, to highlight just how sketchy that relationship was, and why she couldn’t bring herself to trust Killian--because the last time she felt this way about anyone, it ended horribly)
2x08 and 2x09: Into the Deep and Queen of Hearts--these episodes cover the race to the portal between Emma&co and Hook/Cora and while they don’t do a ton for CS as a relationship since they’re still enemies at this point, it lays great foundation for their future relationship development. Plus, sexy swordfight, Hook going out of his way to save Aurora’s heart--he may be a pirate, but he has standards ok--and Emma realizing Cora can’t remove her heart without her permission? Poetic Cinema
2x11: The Outsider--more of a Killian-centric episode, it shows a lot of Killian at his worst but it’s necessary for his overall character arc and I genuinely love looking back and seeing just how far he managed to come, to the point of eventually even letting go of his (very understandable) grudge against Rumplestiltskin.
2x12: In the Name of the Brother--am I including this purely for Emma&Hook banter in the hospital, and Killian saying ‘hey beautiful’ when he’s lying on the road because he just got hit by a fucking car? You bet I am. Also, go to youtube and look up ‘ouat season two deleted scene jello’, because it’s beautiful and there was a tremendous outcry in the fandom when we realized it had been cut from the episode lmao (It’s also the episode that made me start shipping Frankenwolf, which I’m still sad never went anywhere, but they had a lot of potential and great chemistry.)
2x22: And Straight On Till Morning--A few of the episodes in between have some fun minor interactions and flashbacks (and I always approve of episodes where Killian gets one up on Rumple, so 2x15 is fun for me if i ignore all the Neal bits) but the finale is where we finally get a glimpse of who Killian could be beyond his need for revenge. He didn’t have to come back, he didn’t have to bring back the bean and help the town--but he did.
Season 3a: there’s a lot of really good stuff here for Hook and Emma that is interwoven between the A plots of other episodes. I think, as far as half-season arcs go, it’s one of the best (and everything after 4a bombed hard, but I digress) But there are a few episodes that stand out if you don’t want to watch the whole season. (I recommend starting with the premier though, it was a really solid season starter overall.)
3x05: Good Form--this is the culmination of David’s poisoned-by-dreamshade arc, and is also Peak Captain Charming Bromance. Hook not only keeping David’s secret, but doing everything he can to help save him??? Poetic cinema. It also provides some crucial Killian backstory, showing how he lost his brother to the very same dreamshade. Plus, the character development--Pan offers Killian a chance to escape the island with Emma if he kills David, and instead, he saves him, refusing the deal and damn the consequences. Also also? The first CS kiss which drove the fandom WILD.
3X06: Ariel--not only to I love OUaT’s take on Ariel, but this episode has the infamous Echo Cave scene, which involves a lot of feelsy confessions and Killian being the one to tell everyone that Neal is alive and helping Emma save him despite his own growing feelings for her.....IT’S JUST A LOT AND I LOVE IT.
3x07: Dark Hallow--oh man, I’d forgotten about this episode, but it has Killian and Neal fighting over Emma, which may sound eye-roll worthy, but Emma is allowed to tear them a new one about it and it’s one of the few times she’s allowed to actually???? put her own feelings first so I have to include it here on spec
3x11 and 3x12: Going Home and New York City Serenade--these mark the end of 3a and start of 3b respectively, and it has some amazing shit like Killian vowing never to forget Emma and Emma smiling as she replies, “Good.” And then she and Henry are in New York with their memories completely altered, but Killian shows up because Storybrooke is back and in jeopardy, and he helps Emma get back to her family and her home and, much later, Emma finds out he sold the Jolly Roger to be able to do it and it’s just. It’s beautiful ok.
3x17: The Jolly Roger--there’s honestly not a whole lot in the back half of season 3 (until the CS movie) but of course anything named for Hook is a must-watch, and this is where we get the iconic line I swear on Emma Swan--which is Killian saying he’s in love with her before he even realizes it. We also find out just what he did to Ariel, and his attempts to make amends are what lead to Zelena being able to curse him, so it’s great from a character perspective as well.
The next four episodes round out the end of the season, and there’s a lot of great stuff in them--Hook refusing to get Emma to kiss him, but Emma feeling like she can’t trust him because he didn’t tell her about the curse to begin with, and then kissing him anyway to save his life regardless of the consequences.... but the only ones that are absolutely necessary are the final two episodes.
They are colloquially termed ‘The Captain Swan Movie’ for a reason, after all.
Killian and Emma essentially have an entire Time Travel adventure all to themselves, where they accidentally ruin her parents first meeting and have to fix it so that she’ll even be born, Emma finally getting into the storybook, the pair of them dancing at a ball, Killian rushing to save Emma only for her to get out of the cell herself, because “The only one who saves me is me.” Killian saying “I would go to the ends of the world for her... or time.” Finally fixing the timeline and making it back to Storybrooke and Killian feeling like he doesn’t deserve a place at the table so he doesn’t go inside, but Emma comes out to him anyway and finds out he gave up the Jolly Roger for her, the true start to their relationship...... IM CRYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT I’M SORRY.
I personally really enjoyed 4a, the Frozen arc was one of the last good half-season arcs of the show, but a lot of people disliked it so it’s really up to interpretation. I don’t have as many Intense Opinions on this season (except hating almost everything about 4b and the queens of darkness arc), but I will say the episodes with good Killian/CS moments are 4x02 (Emma nearly freezes to death, Killian is desperate to save her, Captain Charming teamwork, my heart hurts), 4x04 (Emma asks Killian out on a real date, he tries to get his real hand back from Gold, things go massively awry and he winds up back under Gold’s thumb), 4x08 (Killian tries to save Emma from Gold’s plans), 4x11 (the 4a finale is just great in general), and then..... it cannot be overstated how much I hate season 4b, but 4x15 is the Killian-centric ep where his past with Ursula is revealed and he makes amends to her in order to get her to leave the QoD alliance and it’s great character stuff for him, and then there’s the season 4 finale.
Both parts are worth watching, if only because Deckhand Coward Hook still being a braver, more heroic man than ‘Hero Rumplestiltskin’ warms the very cockles of my heart, and of course the second part of the finale has him helping Henry to save Emma and it’s beautiful and also Emma watches him die for her and it is angsty as FUCK but gods I love it. Here’s where it gets tricky, though--my recommendation is, turn the episode off right after Emma finds Killian back in the present day of Storybrooke and they reunite.
Just turn off the episode there and skip right ahead to the s6 musical episode (Emma and Killian’s wedding ep) and pretend they got married and none of seasons 5 or 6 ever happened. >.> (Although I will say certain parts of the Underworld arc were incredibly feelsy despite how much I overall hated the season: 5x11 (the 5a finale, Killian as the dark one STILL being a better man than rumple, we love to see it), 5x15 (I am not immune to Brothers Jones feelings ok), 5x20 (emma literally takes a True Love Test trying to find a way to save killian, you don’t get more romantic than that--also Killian telling Emma to promise she won’t put her armor back up just because she lost him again??? my HEART), 5x21 (Hook does what he can from the Underworld anyway and zeus sends him back to Emma, they really just said ‘today I will invent romance’ and then Did That)
And then, yeah, just skip to the wedding. It’s beautiful, I enjoyed the music, personally, though I know musical episodes are hit or miss with most people. And if you turn it off when the last musical number starts (after the wedding ceremony, I believe) you can pretend it was the end of the show! =DDD
.....Oh my god I just rambled for years. I HOPE YOU FIND THIS USEFUL, ANON. I 100% support a CS-centered rewatch, their episodes were consistently some of the best across the entire series, and they are truly one of my favorite romances of all time.

Hell/Dark Tunnel Symbolism
Okay, today I want to talk about the hell or dark tunnel symbolism. It really came together for me in a big way during episode 10x10 and I want you guys to see what I'm seeing. First let's talk about what it is. It often starts with water. We’ve said before that water = Beth, and that still true. But I believe water may represent something slightly bigger or more general than that as well.
It struck me in episode 10x11 that when Ezekiel went to get Carol, she was at Daryl's camp by the water. Now, Carol basically did in this season exactly what Daryl did after he lost Rick.
(Once again, Carol and Carol are very similar in their tendencies and how they deal with things. Both of them tend to shut down and become somewhat hermetic.)
It's important to note that Ezekiel is the only one who could've convinced Carol to come back to civilization. This happened relatively quickly, because as soon as Ezekiel found out what happened, he went out to get her. She wouldn't have come back for anyone else. The same was true of Daryl, and that's what makes it sad. After Rick’s death, if Beth had been around, he wouldn’t have stayed out in the woods so long. She would come to get him and he would come back with her. But he ended up staying up there for six years because he had no Beth to come get him and bring him back, as Ezekiel did for Carol.
And yes, for the record, Carol did bring Daryl back in S9, but remember that he wouldn't do it for her originally. He said no. She had to leave Henry with him overnight, trusting that Henry will be able to convince Daryl to come back. And who did Henry represent and remind Daryl of heavily? That would be Beth.
But back to Carzekiel. I thought it was interesting that rather than just have her go off by herself into the woods somewhere, they purposely put her next to a body of water. I think water represents happiness, especially romantic happiness for our main characters. So, Beth definitely does = water, especially for Daryl. And I also think she equals water for other reasons having to do with the plot, including the helicopter group, which is purifying water. She's a dynamic symbol.
But back to the dark tunnel symbolism. It often starts near water to show that the character is happy and that there surrounded by people they care about. That's often romantic love, but it can also be other kinds, like familial love. After all, Rick was near water when he disappeared, which would suggest romantic love for Michonne losing him, but obviously not for Daryl and the others.
So again, we start no water, which represents happiness. Then something happens, usually the loss of someone the character cares about, and the character enters the dark tunnel or hell symbolism. This is often represented literally by a dark tunnel in the show.
We've also seen it represented by gas station more than once, and gas stations represent hell. So, these are all the same symbols. It represents a period of great trial, personal hell, or emotional/psychological darkness for the character. And again, this is usually because they’ve lost someone they cared about.
Yet, we often see it depicted as having a light at the other end of the tunnel. This usually represents them being able to get that person back. Because of this, I believe the dark tunnel symbolism is usually used only when the character will eventually get the person they've lost back. In other words, a death fake out.
I’m going talk about all of the instances of dark tunnel symbolism I can think of. I'm sure there are some that I've missed, especially smaller, more subtle instances. I'll just give you enough so that you can see the way that they do this in the show.
Let me mention that this specific dark tunnel symbolism was not used heavily until S4 when Gimple took over. The trials the characters went through still existed in earlier seasons, of course, but I don't think they used “dark tunnels’ extensively to show those trials until Gimple took the reins.
So, for example, earlier death fake outs included Carol in S3 and Merle in S1, but they didn’t specifically employ dark tunnel symbolism for those. I’m sure if you go back and watch the episode, you might be able to find something that qualifies, but it’s not to the same extent that Gimple began purposely putting still after 3x16.
The original dark tunnel had to do with Rick in episode 1x01. After he wakes up, Rick enters the hospital stairwell, which is very dark. He has only a small flickering lighter and then we see him open the door out into the sunlight, which is very common now, which is very similar to what Beth did agree.
Now, this dark tunnel might represent Rick’s own fake out in ep 1x01. Because Lori and Carl thought he was dead and then he showed up alive. Rick waking up at the beginning of the series was sort of the Original Death Fake Out.
And I think sometimes Gimple does this. More often, though, the character who enters the dark tunnel isn’t the one who is presumed dead. Rather, someone they love is presumed dead, which is why they’re in hell to begin with.
The dark tunnel in 1x01 represents Rick is about to enter a period of trial or is going to lose someone. I believe for 1x01, the dark tunnel represents the series as a whole and the zombie apocalypse in general. Rick is about to enter a period of trials that is the apocalypse and the end of the world. He’ll lose a lot of people along the way, and this entire story is one great big hell for the characters. This is actually backed up by quite extensively by what Dr. Jenner in 1x06 at the CDC. We get a lot of biblical symbolism and mention of trials.
It’s also worth mentioning that one of the first and most famous scenes of the pilot is where Rick arrives at a gas station and sees zombie girl. That was mirrored in 8x01 and foreshadowed Carl’s death, so it lines up fairly neatly. The gas station represents the hell that comes from losing a beloved family member or other character. The dark tunnel, while represents basically the same thing, is used primarily when the person lost is a romantic love interest.
But then Gimple takes over in 3x16 and starting in S4, we get much more purposeful and obvious use of this dark tunnel symbolism.
In 4a, Daryl's group, while looking for medicine, goes into a gas station. This instance is how we know the gas station represents hell. On the marquee the letters have been turned to spell out the word, “hell.”
We also get what I always refer to as Grady lighting at both the gas station and the veterinary clinic. All that means is that it's dark inside with light streaming in from outside. So kind of lines up with dark tunnel symbolism. It might also represent imprisonment. Darkness insight the prison with the light of freedom on the outside.
A couple of important details: they are looking for water almost right away, because the battery (Battery Theory) that they find is dry and needs water. We also see prominent keys, and coolant (antifreeze) plays a prominent role in how the people in the gas station died.
In 4b, we had two major instances of the dark tunnel symbolism. The first was with Maggie and Glenn. Glenn and Tara literally entered a dark tunnel because Glenn was searching for Maggie. When they got into the tunnel, they found that the ceiling had fallen in, trapping walkers.
I’ve always believed the ceiling falling and was a representation of Beth being shot in the head. (See the Hole in the Roof theory.) Maggie even tells Glenn later that she fired off her gun and that's what made the ceiling fell on the walkers, which saved her life. The point is, Maggie and Glenn were separated and searching for one another. We have a literal dark tunnel with light at the end, and they came out of the dark tunnel on the other side, reunited.
Bet you can guess the other major hell, dark tunnel symbolism and 4B. That would be the golf club. Once again, we have a confirmation that this represented hell because on TTD, the writers said that Beth and Daryl going through the golf club represented the nine circles of hell. So, it represented a period of trial for them.
And I could go into all kinds of ways that what happened in the golf club foreshadowed their arc and what would happen, including the passage of eight minutes which probably represents eight years. But the point is, we have dark tunnel symbolism which represents hell or a trial. And at the end, both of them came out on the other side into the light and Beth said, "We made it."
Let’s move on to S5. We had Beth leaving Edward's office and literally walking into a dark hallway with light at the end. We also have the shot of her looking down the dim hallway greeting when she arrives, and seeing a man with a mop at the end, standing in lighter area. This represented that Beth was about to enter her dark tunnel arc.
Well, I said the person entering the dark tunnel is not usually the person who's presumed dead, but the one who lost somebody. So between the two, it's really Daryl in the dark tunnel because that represents his emotional or psychological darkness over losing Beth.
However, I also believe that Beth will have a dark tunnel of her own. We haven't seen it because we aren't seeing anything from her point of view. But when we get her story, I think there's a very good chance that she has a dark tunnel as well. Mainly it will be dealing with the emotional darkness at losing her family and being left behind, but I think there's a good chance she’ll come to believe Daryl is dead as well. That could be why it’s taken them so long to find one another, because neither believes the other one is still living.
Moving on to S6.
Enter Glenn's death fake out. Because he’s the one presumed dead, It would be Maggie who’s in the dark tunnel because she lost him, right? And, once again, we have a very literal dark tunnel that Maggie enters.
After 6x03, Thank You, even before the audience learned he’d lived, Maggie and Aaron enter a dark tunnel together. This very much represents her emotional turmoil over not knowing whether Glenn is alive or not. And all the lighting and symbolism applies.
(I’m also side-eying the fact that Aaron was involved here, given that he befriended Daryl right after Daryl lost Beth, and that Aaron actually showed up with the music box.)
It's also important to me that we didn't get any dark tunnel symbolism when Glenn actually died. That's why I believe it's only used when they're going to get that loved one back. So the dark tunnel applied in S4 when Glenn and Maggie were separated but found their way back to one another. It also applied in S6a when Glenn had his death fake out.
But we didn't see it around Maggie when Glenn actually died. Don't get me wrong, we saw her grieving and saw other interesting symbols around her, but not specifically the dark tunnel symbolism because, in this case, she wasn't going to get Glenn back.
Season 7:
We see a version of this when Daryl was being held captive at the Sanctuary. There were a lot of symbols there that showed he was thinking a lot about Beth and that represented his dark tunnel arc. The symbolism we saw here other wasn't exactly the same, but I think that's because it represented the dark tunnel that he was already in.
The thing about Daryl is that, as Beth pointed out to him in S4, he doesn’t naturally default toward optimism and faith. He often can't see beyond the darkness toward the light. Other characters such as Beth and Ezekiel can see beyond the darkness to light much more easily than he can.
So, we had a shot of him lying in his cell, reaching toward the light, and he's definitely surrounded with darkness. It's like he wants to get to the light, but he doesn't know how. And again, it’s important to note that he didn't actually take actions to get himself back toward the light by escaping the Sanctuary until after Dwight played the song that reminded him of Beth. She became his light that helped him get through the darkness.
Season eight.
There was a scene where Negan and Rick were fighting and went into the basement of an abandoned building. This is another thing we can point to as being a representation hell because there was a sign beside it said "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
That same thing is written above Hell, in Dante's Inferno. So, the writers obviously pull heavily from Dante (the 9 circles of hell in the golf club also comes from Dante) but this obviously represents Rick's coming dark tunnel and death fake out, in the same way that the golf club represented Beth’s.
Season 9:
Some people have suggested that, just before Rick disappeared, when he and Daryl fell into that pit together, that might have functioned as dark tunnel symbolism. Also, during his hallucination, we saw him in the hospital again from 1x01. There are lights on in the hospital, but it still dark compared to what's outside, so that also might have been a representation of dark tunnel symbolism.
And its interesting that it showed the hospital from 1x01 again, because it kind of book-ended his time on the show by showing both ends of the tunnel, as it were.
I also think it's worth mentioning what happened with Michonne in 9x06, right after Rick disappeared. She found an abandoned van hidden in the brush and got in to explore it. Honestly, this wasn't the best representation of dark tunnel symbolism because the van wasn't terribly dark. But it was cylindrical in shape and it did have sunlight streaming in from the outside.
And to be fair, this tent Daryl wakes up in also has the look of a dark tunnel. They were both in a bad place after losing Rick.
During the opening sequence with her, she picks up the sheriff that looks a lot like Rick and talks about how since he left just become darker and darker for her. So, I think it's a representation of her being in the dark tunnel after having lost Rick.
Season 10:
Now, finally, we get to the sequence in 10x10, with Alpha and Daryl. While I don't think this represents a coming dark tunnel arc, I think it’s rehash of Daryl's entire dark tunnel arc from the beginning.
So, notice it starts out near some water, which represents him being with Beth. Then, we see a fight between him and Alpha, in which Alpha (who represents Dawn) injures Daryl (who represents Beth in the sequence) in the forehead. He even stabs her in the shoulder as Beth did with Dawn. Then they both stagger away into a gas station.
Remember that gas station represents hell or the dark tunnel. In other words, after Beth was shot, Daryl enters the gas station/dark tunnel of trial because he lost her.
We have a walker horde involved. (I haven't mentioned it specifically with each individual case, but there are usually walkers involved in the dark tunnel/hell symbolism. Walkers were involved in the train tunnel in 4b with Maggie and Glenn; there were walkers blocking her and Aaron from getting out in 6a; we believe a walker horde was involved in leaving Beth behind; you get the idea.)
We saw many symbols around Daryl in the gas station in 10x10 that we've seen throughout a lot of these situations over the seasons, including fire extinguishers, yellow mops, a car with an open trunk, Christmas tree symbols, and coolers. There was even a fish hanging on the wall. I won’t go into details on all of these for this post, but if you’ve followed TD for a while, you should have a pretty good idea.
And then of course there was the conversation were Alpha asked, "Can you see beyond the darkness, into the light?"
Daryl: "No."
This was a representation of Daryl's entire dark tunnel arc. I think they’re replaying it because his is been longer than anyone else’s by far. Maggie and Glenn’s came to a close, both times, within a handful of episodes. We don't know exactly when Michonne will get Rick back, but certainly won’t take as long as it did for Daryl to get Beth back.
Daryl's entire arc on the show since S5 has revolved around losing and was foreshadowed in S4. I also believe they’re rehashing it because it's about to end. He's about to finally come out of his dark tunnel when he finds Beth alive. So just as we saw the hospital from 1x01 again when Rick disappeared, so they’re also rehashing Daryl’s dark tunnel arc because Beth is about to appear.
We get a few different symbols of resurrection at the end of this dark tunnel arc. Sometimes its eyes fluttering open (Beth and Glenn). Other times it’s lying against a tree. *Ahem*
It's also important to note that Dawn died very soon after what happened with Beth because Daryl shot her. Obviously, Daryl did not kill Alpha, but I do think it's important that we saw the sequence with her being a stand-in for Dawn and only two episodes later, she's dead. Yet more evidence that the sequence was meant to represent Grady.
We also get other, oblique symbols that recur with the Dark Tunnel symbolism, such as flashlights and flashlight flares,
but I won’t try to go into all of that, today.
So that is the dark tunnel/how symbolism as I'm seeing it. As I said, I'm sure there's a lot more instances, but these are the major ones that came to mind.
Thoughts?

Do you think Jonny hits a downward spiral in the later half of the series into the movie? What did Between a Rock and an Ed Place day about his character?
Not necessarily the last half of the whole series, I think the summer seasons were pretty consistent about Jonny being in his own little world and only making the kids annoyed with him when he crosses obvious boundaries, such as stealing and breaking Kevin’s bike in season 2 or eating Kevin’s football during a game in season 3. However I think the last half of season 5 works surprisingly well as an arc into his BPS fate. I didn’t really think about it the first time I saw the movie, but when it came out, I spent a lot of time defending BPS on /co/ from the usual complaints about EEnE being different in its final years from its early years. Someone else made an interesting point that they watched the movie without seeing season 5 and were confused about how things took such a bad turn for Jonny, but then went back and watched season 5 and felt like his ending made more sense in retrospect and that they liked the movie more after giving the digital episodes a chance. That really interested me and gave me a new appreciation for Jonny’s storyline over the series. The digital era starts out as indifferent to Jonny as any other season, but as we get near the middle of season 5, I notice a swift downturn in Jonny’s relationships with his neighbors.
Episode 4A, ‘I Am Curious Ed’, has Jonny get beat up pretty bad by Sarah, and then get sent away carelessly on a sheep by Rolf. Ep 4B, ‘No Speak Da Ed’ also has Jonny being tossed away by Rolf in the end, despite fulfilling his Urban Ranger duty.
Ep 5A, ‘Cool Hand Ed’ gives the Eds a chance to bond with Jonny, rejecting the new school setting together, only for Eddy to leave him high and dry. Ep 5B, ‘Too Smart For His Own Ed’ has Jonny take a turn toward villainy that seems to set up his BPS post-credits scene, and establishes an emotional distance between him and Nazz.
Ep 6B, ‘Pick an Ed’, makes a strong case for Kevin not wanting Jonny around anymore and that Jonny’s quirkiness with Plank is starting to take on more of a conspiratorial tone that the kids try to ignore.
7A and 7B, ‘Truth or Ed’ and ‘This Won’t Hurt an Ed’, go back to Jonny being at peace with everyone, but both make the point that Jonny’s attitude is often the opposite of the kids’. In the former, he rejects the angry mob mentality and is merely amused by the fake rumors in the school paper. In the latter, Jonny is the only kid who isn’t afraid of needles and is downright eager to get his booster shots.
(wow in this next shot, i never noticed they animated Jonny with a black eye for no reason? the worst thing that happens to Jonny in this ep is just Rolf stretching his nostril to look inside)
8A, ‘Tinker Ed’, gives Jonny only brief cameos, but he starts the episode in a blank state, completely under Plank’s control… creepy! 8B, ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ed’, doesn’t do much with Jonny but continues the trend of Jonny being more of a workhorse for the Urban Rangers than Jimmy is.
9A, ‘Tight End Ed’, echoes ‘Pick an Ed’’s sentiments about how little Kevin likes Jonny, and Jonny also lacks the other kids’ shame over their football failure. 9B, ‘Tween a Rock and an Ed Place’, is the biggest episode for showing how the kids do not willingly hang out with Jonny anymore and continues to hint at Jonny starting to pick up underhanded habits from Plank, like forcing tears to guilt the Eds into being boarded up in his house.
10A, ‘All Eds Are Off’ again illustrates Plank’s hold over Jonny as an unhealthy obsession that leaves Jonny a husk of a person when left alone, needing anyone to keep him busy at all times.
11A and 11B, ‘Run Ed Run’ and ‘A Town Called Ed’, keep Jonny sidelined yet again, but keep up with ‘Pick an Ed’’s concept of Jonny being sort of ignored whenever he joins people places. He’s also seeming to remain bitter toward the Eds at this point in the series.
12, ‘A Fistful of Ed’, Jonny doesn’t receive much attention from the kids after being unintentionally beaten to a pulp by Edd. He even gets forced into serving Eddy for a while.
‘The Eds Are Coming’ continues the attitude that Kevin finds him useless from ‘Tight End Ed’ AND brings in the kids ignoring his conspiracy theories, a la ‘Pick an Ed’.
Season 6 ep1A has Jonny relegated to the background with Ed for most of the dance and his first appearance in the episode involves him being dunked in a trashcan and rolled away for trying to ask Sarah out. He remains distant from the kids in S6 1B.

OUAT 2B rewatch thoughts
Messy thoughts ahead.
As a whole I think 2A was stronger but 2B had better character material. Mainly due to the Greg and Tamara material. It isn’t bad (it’s still better than anything 4B onwards) but while Greg/Owen is fairly well developed, Tamara is left lacking and we know next to nothing about their organisation. However the season ends strongly with the darker Peter Pan reveal and almost the entire cast heading off to rescue Henry in Neverland.
Also I elect to change the episode groupings for Season Two. Eps 1-9 are 2A, 10-17 are 2B and 18-22 are 2C. Also headcanoning Tamara as an orphan as it fits with the Peter Pan Home Office.
Some general character thoughts.
*Snow- I forgot to add in my 2A thoughts I really love how Ginnifer portrays Snow and then Mary Margaret. Especially after watching S1 and then having Snow come back in S2, you can see how different they are. Props to her. Snow gets some great material in 2B but the defining part is her manipulating Regina to kill Cora. I kinda feel this is where Snow’s whitewashing of Regina begins...
*Emma- I kinda feel everyone getting their memories back and all the feuds of the past take over Emma’s story and she’s left a little to the side. She still gets great moments like learning magic, fighting Tamara and confronting Neal again though. JMO does a great job especially in episodes such as ‘Manhattan’.
*Regina- Just like that I don’t like her again. While she does have some moments- like in 2x22 she rightfully says that everything that has happened is her fault, destroying a curse she was going to use on Henry after he begs her and the ‘Let me die as Regina’ moment was great... but the rest is her just being full on full on Evil Queen again- including the oh so annoying seeing herself as the victim. I feel in some moments like 2x17 Parrilla plays Regina as very mentally ill which would have been more interesting to explore. @deliriumdecadence can probably write this better than me.
*Charming- Like Emma, Charming is kinda left to the side. I mean he does great moments supporting Emma and Snow but yeah... Especially after 2A where he was so prominent.
*Belle- Oh, Belle... to me 2B is the death of Rumbelle. After 2x11, I find myself asking what even Rumple asks her- ‘ After everything you’ve learned about me, after everything I’ve done, why haven’t you given up on me?’ She responds- ‘ I learned a long time ago, that when you find something that’s worth fighting for, you never give up’.
I’m sorry, what? What?! The writing fails to convince me just why Belle should be fighting for her relationship with Rumple or even why she loves him at all. True, Rumple does have some good qualities but by large and overwhelming so the darkness is bigger. Is it worth all that? I don’t think so, I’d be seeing run, run away before you get hurt or killed. Especially after finding out Rumple killed his first wife. Don’t get me started on her ‘you stole his wife’ to Hook...She comes off as foolish. She’s kinda neglected before being brought back as Lacey which could have been interesting if it went longer. Ugh, all of it just angers me so much...
Hook- Unfortunately Colin breaking his leg really impacts Hook in 2B. But he does get some great moments such as 2x11 and 2x22. Thankfully S3 is up next which is when Hook’s character really takes off.
Henry- He becomes a little annoying here. Like his attitude when he meets Neal and realises Emma lied to him, thinking in terms of heroes and villains etc. He is still a child though so I can kinda forgive him.
Rumple- Starting off Carlyle does fantastic work here- especially with MRJ. But 2B highlights that Rumple just loves being dark and having power. It’s just kinda hard to feel for him. He finally reunites with Bae after centuries and again neglects him in the end. I feel his relationship with Belle is more about how she can comfort him more than anything he can do for her. While Snow manipulated Regina to kill Cora, it was Rumple goading her into it as well.
Neal- Again, yet again I kinda feel like Neal is neglected with all the going ons of this half of the season- even his own centric episode! I feel Adam and Eddy built up to Neal being Bae so much they just didn’t know what to do with him next.
I don’t like his attitude around Emma- ‘we’re all messed up’ and letting Henry say things to Emma etc but I found his growing relationship the best thing about his character in 2B. He did have some poignant moments with Rumple- ‘ You know what I’ve dealt with? Every night, for more years than you could know, the last thing I see before sleep, is the image of you… You and me, over that pit. Your hand… Wrapped around mine. And then, you open your grip. And as I fall away, all I can see is your face. Choosing all…this…crap over me.’ All the more haunting knowing he was in Neverland for centuries.
As for Swanfire, I just can’t get into it. I just feel Emma and Hook’s interactions are much more fresh and interesting and dynamic. There is so much pain to Emma when she is around Neal and I get that she loves him but I like what they did in 3A with how that was resolved.
Other random things.
*I used to think Cora’s death was too soon but rewatching it felt like it came to a fitting end. Barbara Hershey and Rose McGowan did fantastic jobs with the character and I did kinda feel for her when she finally got her heart back but died... ‘You would have been enough’. Love Cora so much.
*Really felt for Anton- especially how humans tell the- wrong- history of his race. Why did the beans grow so quickly in SB though when it took a century in the EF though?
*I think S2 is as a whole is better than S1 but S1 is better because it’s a lot more straightforward and accessible. That doesn’t make sense...
*In 2x17 Neal mentions being a dad for 3 days... So he really only had very little time with Henry... :(

TIMELINE on SCORPION UNIVERSE:
Timeline for Scorpion from episode 3x22 to 3x25 to 4x01 WILL BE HERE
3x22 events happened in the middle of April 2017 in their universe
3x23 events happened 4-5 weeks later, in the middle of May 2017 (during one day/night) #QuintisMay2017Wedding. So it has been suggested that Quintis got married in the middle of May, 2017...in their universe
3x24- 3x25 events happened on the same/next day as 3x23, plus they covered the next several weeks (on the island)...so 3-4 weeks later, meaning the it was around middle of June 2017 in their universe at the end of s3 finale Remember: they were stranded on an island on the southern hemisphere, so seasons are switched up (compared to LA/Northern Hemisphere)...they went from spring/summer to autumn/winter... And according to Walter’s (stopped) watch, the date was the 15th, so it was suggested that they were rescued on June 15th, 2017...after 3-4 weeks on the island
ETA: 4x01 picks up pretty much “right after” (read: relatively soon: next morning) where s3 left us...storyline & timeline wise. What was heard in the 3x25 end scene will be a topic in 4x01 ”opening” scenes. Now, whether the (first) timejump we get happens already during the double-episode premiere episodes, or right after, or only sometime later (anytime before the Halloween ep), that is yet to be determined/revealed.
Eps 4x01 & 4x02 happen the “next day” after 3x25 end scene. Ep 4x03 happens the “next day” after the 4x02 end scene. So it’s still the same week...just a few days after the rescue. And also... it hasn’t been a month since Quintis wedding in 402. So from 3x23 wedding day to 4x03 Africa adventures... it’s only been about a month! And ep 4x04 happens about 2 weeks after the end of 4x03... And since Sly’s taking his bar exam in 4x05...this ep has to happen 48-72 hours after the end of 4x04... and the date Oct 22nd - 28th on screen confirm that it is middle/end of October during this ep. Which leads to ep 406 aka Oct 31st, and about a week later. Then episodes 407 - 408 take place between Halloween & Thanksgiving, during November, as ep 409 in (US) Thanksgiving day, which in Thu Nov 23rd this year. Then we cover the next 3 weeks in the next 3 episodes (410 - 412) with 412 being the Christmas episode, so around December 23rd-25th...and 4x11 with Cabe’s trail happening on/just before December 11th (screenshot in 414). And that concludes the first part of the season.
ORIGINAL INFO FROM BEFORE S4 STARTED FILMING: There is currently no information about when season 4 will pick up... “right away” or “some days/weeks/months” later... ETA: Now we know that storyline wise the new season picks up “(basically)right after”. But if there is no timejump between 3x25 & 4x01, then there will be one or several during the season. They have to catch up to real time by the Halloween episode, the Xmas episode & the Valentines episode (if there are any of those in s4)
Let’s see if the timeline & timejump between seasons will be more like s1/s2 hiats or s2/s3 hiatus. Meaning will there be a possible and realistic timeline and timejump (timejump explained between 1x22 & 2x01 with Walt’s recovery time & summer off work for the team) orthe hot mess that happened last year...with time literally going missing. Going from April 23rd to October overnight. By the looks/sound of it right now this year seems more like last year, and I honestly don’t like it. We had the Quintis wedding and all, and unless they will reveal that the timeline was: 3x22 in June, 3x23 in July, and 3x25 end scene/retur in August (date: 15th), then for me it’ll make no sense again. Cause it’s halloween in 4x06 already. And I don’t get the timejump in/between eps 4x02 & 4x06... But I’ll wait to see the eps, and how it’s all edited together and such...

PS. Things to remember:
Each episode takes ~8 work days to film/shoot. (also: there is a thing called “fraturday” = friday + saturday combined, which means the cast & crew start working noon-ish Friday and finish working early Saturday morning. This is a thing in TV world. Used for “night” scenes/shots...often... But there are also things called DFN (day for night) & NFD (night for day) which means that they create the amount of light needed for the scene, even if it’s the opposite in reality. Filming day scenes when it’s dark outside...for example)
It is not unusual in TV world for the last day of filming one episode to be the first day of filming the next episode - meaning 1st unit films for one ep, 2nd unit for another ep…or whatever combination. Episode filming can overlap sometimes. And 2nd unit work can happen sometimes later... during filming on other eps. (those are the inserts, and other bits that can be filmed separately, easily)
The scenes are not filmed in order. Meaning they could film the end scenes first, and the opening scenes later. Garage scenes are usually filmed together, even though they happen at different times of the episode - the beginning & the end. It’s all about the logistics.

OUaT 6x18 – Random Thoughts & Observations
Took me a while to realize the episode was more than eight minutes long this week! But once I got past that scene, I think this episode had some interesting things to say. At first blush, I would say nothing really happened this episode, but I looking back, I think I was wrong. Not everyone was in the same position by the end of the episode as they were at the beginning, and I think we got a few more hints about the final battle.
Before I start, I should probably mention that I have long thought that the epic romantic adventure teased for Emma and Killian was referring to them getting married, not to another CS movie type adventure. Similarly, I think the final battle is a much more contained, individual and internalized battle than an all out war. I am probably completely off base, but in my mind, that is the only way I can justify all the time spent on the Split Queen arc and it’s resolution. The Split Queen are was an internal battle externalized, and the final battle will be Emma fighting to keep her happily ever after – something that everyone does every day, but the fight for Emma is externalized by the Black Fairy casting a curse to take it all away from Emma.
So that is the perspective I have while watching and thinking about what the show is telling us about the finale.
Random Thoughts:
Regina was holding strong to her vow that she would never forgive Zelena, and for some reason the rift felt even more lopsided than before. Actually, that was probably the point, but even in the vault it felt like Regina still did not acknowledge the sacrifice Zelena made to correct her error. Maybe it’s just me, but the scene in the vault did not have the same emotional resonance that some of their other scenes have had in the past, and I’m wondering if that was purposeful to set-up a continued conflict between the sisters.
“Seems like you’re going through an awful lot of trouble to be with someone who didn’t want to be with you to begin with.” Given Zelena’s sacrifice to cure her admitted error in going after the Black Fairy and Regina’s almost neutral reaction, Stanum’s words to Zelena after she told him the plan for her time-travel spell really stood out to me.
The Black Fairy claimed Zelena’s magic was useful in weaponizing the pixie crystal because it was unstable noting that Zelena’s heart was in “disarray,” contrary to the Black Fairy who was “quite pleased with” herself, thus implying that her magic was stable and could not be used to charge the crystals.
That raises a few questions – why not use Gideon’s magic? He’s been shown to be powerful certainly, so is it because his magic is stable or because he has light magic that the BF didn’t use him and instead manipulated Zelena? Were the crystals being mined in the dark realm formed that way, or were they also charged with unstable dark magic? If so, was the Black Fairy’s magic while trapped in that realm less stable because she was forcibly separated from her son, but now that she’s close to him again her magic has stabilized itself? Is the Black Fairy so far gone down the path of darkness that she could not foresee someone as desperate for love as Zelena sacrificing her magic in exchange for the love she desires?
I have been waiting for Zelena to die ever since they brought her back, and now I’m wondering if we are one step closer to death for her. Zelena certainly isn’t the first character to lose her magic (cf Gold in the 4a finale and again in the 4b finale through 5a), nor the first to willingly give up her magic to save others (cf Emma in 3x20). I’m sure there are other examples, but in the ones I can think of, Gold and Emma each got their powers back, so I assume there will be a way for Zelena to get hers back as well. But it begs the question, if she does get her power back, at what price? I don’t think Zelena is off the death watch list quite yet.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think Snow was on to something with pushing forward with the wedding plans. In that first scene with Emma and Killian, Emma has a bit of an epiphany realizing how happy she is – that’s it, that moment that many of us lost our ever-loving minds over and watched more times than anyone can count was showing us Emma having her happily ever after. It was literally in her grasp and she was going for it, parental interruptions notwithstanding. I think the moment Emma decided to put the wedding on hold, and I think it should be noted that was the one scene that Killian was silent and Emma did all the talking, created an opening for the Black Fairy to move forward.
While Emma and Killian were making pancakes, the Black Fairy was on her own and still searching for someone to help her start the final battle. Emma, whose magic is powered by love was in a much stronger position at the start of the episode than the Black Fairy.
As the controversy between Snowing over Emma’s wedding planning grew and slowed down the process, the Black Fairy was moving forward in her plans. I think this will somehow link into the reasoning for putting the CS wedding back on the schedule, and why I think the final battle is an externalization of Emma grabbing her happiness and pushing back against being told she is destined to die. I refer to is as my theory of living well is the best revenge.
In the usual vein of me having a half-formed spec idea, I’m starting to wonder if Zelena sacrificing her power, and Blue in a simulated death after having her power drained into the sword are meant to serve as foreshadowing as to how Emma “dies.” Is it possible to kill the savior without killing Emma?
Let’s assume the Black Fairy perfects her dark curse and casts it in the last minutes of 6x20. [Want to hear my theory that the BF didn’t name Rumple because she wouldn’t be able to kill the thing she loved most to cast the dark curse if she couldn’t name who that was? Well that’s it, that’s my theory. Anywho…]
The result is Emma is once again separated from everyone she loves. As they all search for a way to get back to Emma, Emma looks for a way to break the new modified dark curse. But because this curse is different from the others a TLK isn’t going to do it, and breaking the curse requires a much greater act of love and sacrifice – i.e., the savior must sacrifice themself.
But this makes me wonder, if that is the price, it is possible for Emma to survive the sacrifice of her role as savior?
Random Observations:
Zelena wanting to use her magic for good is another reminder that evil is made and not born.
“Why don’t you practice on my ax?!” I’m not the only one who thinks it sounded like he said ass instead of ax, right?
Zelena so focused on Robin’s safety made Neal’s absence even more obvious.
Derisive giggles of evil – who does it better, the Black Fairy or Zelena?
The BF starts off in a hole and doesn’t progress very far by the end of the ep, although she does find out about the wand piece and that Emma succeeded in getting Blue’s heart going
Gold doing research in the Sorcerer’s mansion; doesn’t want anyone to know Blue is in the back but doesn’t set up any wards to stop anyone from going back there?
Blue losing her magic causes her hear to stop, but Blue’s heart stopping doesn’t kill her, just puts her in a coma; can anything kill a fairy? Will this be important when it comes to fighting the Black Fairy?
Was it his conversation with Henry and looking at his notes that really changed David’s mind about the wedding?
Also, I still think Henry’s gibberish is fairy language.
“Sometimes the best thing you can do is step away.” – David to Henry
At least Zelena thought to find a babysitter for Robin. Seriously, does anyone know where baby Neal is anymore?
Wicked Witch of the North? Was she one of the four Glinda was presiding over?
Granny’s? Really?!
Killian’s ongoing amusement at the Snowing meltdown though! Colin’s face journeys are perfect and hilarious.
“She’s the most powerful evil we’ve ever faced.” How do we know that exactly?
Why can’t Zelena and Regina poof out of the mine, would the magical kickback cause the mine to collapse? I think I missed something there.
“Seems like you’re going through an awful lot of trouble to be with someone who didn’t want to be with you to begin with.” Bears repeating.
Was the lion attacking Stanum the worst crime against cgi on this show to date? I swear I thought it was a flying monkey and could not figure out why it was helping the lion.
Why was Regina so surprised at finding a vein of pixie crystals, isn’t that what the dwarfs are mining? Or are the pixie crystals like last week’s field of pixie flowers, a sudden response to the presence of untold evil?
The Black Fairy reacted to Zelena’s magic the same way Hyde reacted to getting blasted by Emma and Regina. I thought it was a nice callback.
The BF starts the final battle by moving a couple of crystals and sending out a wave of dark magic before she poofs Zelena and Regina away. Did that wave actually do anything or was it just spreading Zelena’s magic to all the pixie crystals in the mine?
Thank god those tarps were there for Zelena and Regina to land on. Honestly, how evil is the BF when she respected the sisters’ designer duds?
Regina is upset because the Black Fairy can’t be stopped because she has dark fairy dust. Does it do anything other than turn someone into a bug?
Why not just use Zelena for all their portaling needs? This is, what, the fourth one she’s created since the 3b finale?
Just me or did the Black Fairy’s cavern invoke Superman’s Fortress of Solitude for anyone else?
Was that Rumple’s theme playing when he walked in to find Emma and the others in the back of his shop? Love the frantic ticking sound, like time is running out for him.
The Black Fairy wants Blue asleep because Blue knows why the Black Fairy gave up Rumple. This is where we find out that the Black Fairy went dark because she was told some prophecy about her son and attempted to take on the darkness in his stead.
