title: welcome to demon school, iruma-kun
type: anime and manga, this post is for both
genre: comedy, fantasy
content warnings: not much tbh its real tame. crossdressing is played for jokes sometimes, but there is not much transphobia from the characters. violence? they fight they are demons
description from animeplanet: Suzuki Iruma has just been sold to a demon by his irresponsible parents! Surprisingly, the next thing he knows he's living with the demon and has been transferred into a school in the demon world. Thus begins the cowardly Iruma-kun's extraordinary school life among the otherworldly...
why you should read/watch it: beautiful art style and colors. the anime is very colorful and fun, and the manga art has evolved to its currently masterpiece worthy pages. iruma is a very cute protagonist, hes very humble and kind! he gets two besties who are amazing and another highlight of the show. i love the characters and worldbuilding, and im very excited for season three. harvest festival here we come. i know i keep recommending isekai but all isekai i recommend is good.

Why I love "Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun" (Season 1)
"Cozy magical slice of life with occasional urban terrorism" was how a friend describe "Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun". At first, i wasn't sure to give this anime a chance, because it looks very generic and low Budget at the first glance. However, i was totally wrong. You will find out why I consider iruma's journey in the demon World, a hidden gem in my following review.
Tumblr media
Story:
Our protagonist Iruma never had an easy life, as he was exploited by almost every person in his environment. His sincere and naive personality, always leads him into self-sacrificing situations. Sadly his parents took advantage of it as well, persuaded him to do child labor and even end up selling his soul to a demon. In result, Iruma was transported to the demon World and expected the worst possible outcome. For his own surprise, the demon who bought his soul (Sullivan), decided to make Iruma his grandson and send him to Babyls Demon School. He spoils him from start to finish and wants to give him a nice childhood. However, Iruma has to hide his true identity as a human, otherwise he could be eaten by his fellow classmates.
Tumblr media
The premise seems like any run-of-the-mill isekai anime, but is executed surprisingly well. As you might expect, Iruma's Situation leads to a lot of funny and memorable moments during his daily school life.
While the biggest part of the series is stuffed with cozy comedy and entertaining character interactions, the other part is exploring more serious topics. Iruma-kun is more compareable to old cartoons you used to enjoy in your childhood, instead of an typical isekai anime. I guess this is one reason why it feels so "fresh" to watch the series and make it so addicting.
Characters:
But the biggest strength of the anime are the several unique and distinct characters. Even there are some stereotypes, the main cast is likeable and fun to watch. The small character arcs never feel forced (so far), but organic like the small portions of Worldbuilding. I just love to see the development of so many different characters. Especially in terms of their abilitys, perception about themselves and others.
Tumblr media
A perfect example would be Iruma himself, who start to realize his own desires of a caring family, meaningful friendships and being determinate for his own ambitions. In other words: He only lived for the sake of other people and forgot about himself, but start to find a balance between it. At first, he was scared about the demon world and wants to escape, but eventually got used to it at the end of the season.
Tumblr media
That said, Iruma's benelovent personality also left an significant impression on his demon classmates.
For example, Clara's ability (to create everything she saw) was abused by other demons, who pretend to be her friend. She was full aware of it, but just accepted it due to her lonelines at school. Iruma doesn't care to get anything materialistic and genuinely enjoy to play with her. This causes clara to prevail against her fake friends and let her experience "real friendship" for the first time.
Visuals:
The Studio didn't have a lot of Budget, but they make good use of it for sure. There is great attention to detail in the background and the colors are bright and vibrant.
Tumblr media
Sound:
The opening is an absolutely banger and gave me "90s anime" vibes, while the ending feels more like an Idol Song. Furthermore, there are also some nice extra Songs within the series.
youtube
As for the seiyuus, all of them did an awesome Job to play each character. I especially enjoyed the seiyuu of Amerie (Saori Hayami), Kalego (Daisuke Ono), Sullivan (Takaya Kuroda) and clara (Ayaka Asai)
Tumblr media
Conclusion:
"Welcome to demon school! Iruma-kun" might not be the cup of Tea for everyone, but I can highly recommend to give it a chance. The likeable main cast grow very fast on you, the comedy is on point and the visuals are pretty. Maybe you will get addicted to it like me and have a good time.

I can’t remember if I’ve done a ‘why you should watch Mairuma’ before on here but I’mma do one anyways.
Do you like found family?
Do you like the concept of magic schools?
Do you like friend group shenanigans?
Do you like isekai (’other world’) types of stories?
Well, allow me to introduce you to Mairimashita! Iruma-kun aka Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun
The title alone certainly tells you some of what you’re in for but here’s the run down.
14 year old Suzuki Iruma has just been sold by his (crappy) parents to a demon for a lot of money. Why? Idk b/c they suck. So what’s a kid to do in this sort of situation? Get adopted by said demon to become his grandson of course.
The demon lord, Sullivan, has no kids of his own, but he sure wants a grandchild to spoil and dote on. So time for a ‘life hack’ (his words not mine) to obtain one.
Which of course means that now, Iruma has to go to school (which he’s never done before b/c his parents basically made his work as soon as he could walk), specifically a demon school. There’s also another hitch. See. Demons consider humans a delicacy (despite the fact that mot of them think humans are just myths) so Iruma now has to try and keep his head down and survive school and ensure no one finds out his secret. But going unnoticed is really hard when your guardian is ALSO the headmaster at the school and draws attention to you at every possible opportunity because ‘look at my adorable grandson!’
It’s a delightful mix of comedy, drama and heartwarming as Iruma tries to navigate this absolutely absurd world, make friends and keep anyone from discovering that he’s not a demon. Which such shenanigans as
-summoning his first familiar (a human using demon summoning magic, what could *possibly* go wrong)
-making his first friends
-learning all about demons/their way of life
-joining a club!
-befriending some upperclassmen
-idols
-nearly dying multiple times b/c he is still a human and lacks many things demons have like wings. and magic.
And including a cast that contains(to list a few):
-a ball of pure chaos
-the biggest Iruma simp ever Iruma’s biggest supporter ever (outside of his grandpa)
-giant jock-nerd with big ambitions (he’s very good tho)
-a subversion of the asshole teacher trope (as in, despite how he acts he /does/ care about his mischievous students, he’d just sooner launch himself into the sun before admitting it out loud tho)
-a manga loving student council president
-a soft senpai
-doting grandpa
-said grandpa’s cat-person butler (also dotes on Iruma, sort of like a surrogate parent)
The anime itself is incredibly bright and colourful and wonderfully expressive. To quote someone else describing the anime it’s ‘early 2000’s anime meets Saturday morning cartoon‘.
It has both a sub AND dub and tbh, they’re both good. Aside from wording choice in a few places they’re basically the same. It’s not particularly long at 23 episodes. Very bingeable. And you can watch it on Crunchyroll!
Oh but wait, there’s MORE!
See, there’s a second season, arriving on April 17th, set to be 22 episodes in length and should contain such shenanigans as:
-Iruma joins the student council
-the introduction of several new characters
-Iruma’s class working together to achieve a simple goal (get a new classroom cause theirs kinda, sucks)
-Fun times at the local amusement park (until it goes tits up)
and more!
We only have a trailer thus far but it looks spectacular and the animation even better than season 1! I know I am excited for it. (we don’t know yet who’s gonna get it for subbing purposes)
And if you still want more after watching everything, there’s a manga as well! With 198 chapters it’s still ongoing (but well ahead of the anime). The art is beautiful and the story is great! While there’s no official english release (yet, at the time of writing this, we’re keeping our fingers crossed) there IS a dedicated translation team and new chapters are released weekly.
So I absolutely recommend checking this series out! :D

Animes with ridiculous premises that actually enjoyable
I’m not talking about BIG titles with BIG & meaningful fandoms. These are just anime I found like treasures. I had very low expectations about these titles before started watching. Looks “shabby” from the outside, but actually very fun and unique. I have 2 titles in this category.
1. That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
watch free ENG sub (Asia): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwLSw1_eDZl0eZktsDv3cu78EC0l2qYKI
Tumblr media
(This one’s actually very famous)
Yes. What kind of title is that?? Is this another isekai when you die and enter a kinda videogame world, get a harem, have magic and have some new problems? The answer is: yes. The MC is stabbed and entered a “videogame” world, got hot girls, be the king, has cool magic and OP ability. Very usual premise isn’t it?
BUT I love how he turned into a slime, not a human, with unique ability (especially “Predator” skill) slowly building his place in the new world. What makes this series amazing: the plot, worldbuilding, characters’ relationship and the most interesting for me: good skills & ability explanations. This isn’t a typical isekai, even with such premises. Especially the slime is genderless now, even a harem won’t make much sense. Anyway, this is more the story about the world than the MC himself, presented step-by-step. 100% worth watching and rewatchable. Most isekai have this over-perverted MC but I can stand the MC here, so you can too no, really, for an isekai the fanservice is mild
2. Welcome To Demon School! Iruma-kun
Wacth free ENG sub (Asia): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwLSw1_eDZl1Sf_lALh99YZAJTp5IaRft
Tumblr media
A boy sold to the demons by his parents. However the boy was kind and diligent, and the demon was very nice too, he wanted to be the boy’s grandfather. The demon enrolled the boy to a demon school, where he was the principal there.
Everything about this anime is wild. The premises, plot, characters, art style... BUT IT WAS VERY WHOLESOME AS WELL. Yes, this is a very wholesome anime. The conflicts were intriguing, the characters are interesting, the MC is kind but not too naïve, and no unnecessary fanservice, I think this anime is marketed to kids. It’s not boring in any way like many school life anime, both younger and older audience can enjoy since the conflicts are actually "deep”. One of “nakama” anime, but I swear this is worth to watch 100% and rewatchable too!!

Winter anime 2020
And it’s time for another one of these lists. They kinda keep growing in number and it’s scary, but here it is! This season there were some continuation and some anime that got new seasons (ahiru no sora, chihayafuru, isekai quartet,  kaibukichou sherlock, iruma-kun, radiant, nnt) but here are the new anime we started ^^
{ Winter ‘18 }  { Spring ‘18 }  { Summer ‘18 }  { Fall ‘18 }  { Winter ‘19 } { Spring ‘19 }  { Summer ‘19 }  { Fall ‘19 }
BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
Tumblr media
This is a typical isekai with a game-like action and plot. It doesn’t have any deeper meaning, but okay for relaxing. Basically, if you want to take your brain out for a walk - watch this!
Darwin’s game
Tumblr media
The manga is better. It always is, but here especially so. It has a really good concept - a battle to the death game in real life, but not as good execution with the anime adaptation, they skipped some of the really important parts. Don’t let that discourage you tho! It has a good character development and nice action scenes, which makes it quite good! And move on to the manga later ^^
Dorohedoro
Tumblr media
A very interesting anime! Weird, but good! Not surprising tho, it’s mappa. The world in which the story is placed is, although very dark, refreshing and unusually good. The characters are unique, lovable, but weird... like really weird. The animation is a bit different, but it has it’s charm. Also, it has it’s fair share of blood and gruesome scenes, so skip it if you don’t like that. We loved it though! One of the favorites ^^
Hands off the motion pictures club!
Tumblr media
Soft. Just goddamn soft. The animation is a bit different and simplistic, but it fits the characters so well. This slice of life pulls you into the imaginative and colorful world of three high school girls who share the love for animation, and the viewer follows their process of getting inspired for plots for their anime and working on creating it. There is not much action going on, but it always leaves you with a positive feeling after watching it.
ID:Invaded
Tumblr media
Yes. Watch it please. Awesome detective/ mystery story. The idea of entering a criminal subconscious (aka the id) is a unique and it gives new possibilities for detectives to find clues. The plot is very intriguing and keeps you on your toes. Its confusing at the beginning, but the story connects better after a few episodes and it makes you want to watch more. The characters are intriguing and their conversations well paced. (also great voice actors and music *-*) It has some darker scenes, murder and suicide mention, just thought I should mention that, but it’s an extremely good anime, so would definitely recommend!
If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die
Tumblr media
As you can see from the title, this is about a girl fangirling over her favorite idol and that’s it, that’s the plot. But, it’s somehow soft, nicely animated and the story is just enough for an episode a week. It shows both the idol and the fan side of the idol culture, especially the less famous groups. Overall, it’s not an anime that will knock you off your feet, but it’s a solid comedy with relatable characters ^^
Infinite Dendogram
Tumblr media
Generic entering-a-game anime. The point of the anime is that every persons possibilities are endless and everyone has the potential to develop into a strong person. Like we said, nothing new. It’s old, but cute concept.
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun
Tumblr media
And we’re pretty sure most people already know about this one! It’s playful, colorful, cute as heck, the main girl gets a bit annoying, but it’s hella good! The story balances comedy with a school setting and a darker side involving yokai and evil things that lurk in the shadows, making it interesting to watch. The animation is pleasant to the eyes and the characters are great, what’s more to want ^^
Kyokou Suiri
Tumblr media
The plot of this anime is more focused on logical and critical thinking rather than on action, though it may seem otherwise from the synopsis. The relationships between the main characters are kind of weird, but in a good way and their interactions are always interesting. We were pleasantly surprised to see the main female character to have a crush on a guy and still maintain her IQ level. Overall, it’s a good anime, it has good voice actors (Mamo-chan <3), but don’t expect to be kept on the edge of your seat.
Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden
Tumblr media
If you watched Madoka, I’m sure you’ve heard about this release. We were happy that they kept the same dementia animation style, especially of witches. It kinda has a more positive vibe than the original but it still keeps some of the original darkness. There are a lot of new magical girls and more plot and action. It’s pretty good, but the original is better (we love them darkness).
Natsunagu!
Tumblr media
A very cute five minute anime about a girl searching for her friend who suddenly stopped answering her texts. The animation is cute and you have nothing to lose if you watch it.
Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga
Tumblr media
It’s about japanese warlords and historical figures, who are resurrected as dogs. Even though they’ve kept their personalities, they can’t say no to dogs drives (pet me hooman!). It’s cute, but not a lot of plot.
Pet
Tumblr media
It has a very interesting idea of entering peoples subconscious and changing it, manipulating their memories in order to control them. But the executions of that idea is... meh, at best. The characters aren’t lovable or memorable, you don’t feel a connection to them. It’s one of those anime that at the end you say ‘It could have been so good’. But yeah, it wasn’t.
Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It
Tumblr media
The title says it all. Comedy, slice of life (but not really, the sample is not representable). You really start rooting for the main couple and they are funny at proving their love. It’s also educational, it does mention and explain some principles. It’s quite funny ngl.
Smile Down the Runway
Tumblr media
A heartwarming anime about a guy who wants to be a designer and a girl who is too short, but still wants to be a model. It’s a story about perseverance, hard work and pushing towards your dreams. Positive and emotional, and you find yourself cheering for the main characters. Perfect if you want a slow paced anime that includes character development.
Somali and the Forest Spirit
Tumblr media
It’s heartwarming, has very clear animation and great voices. The concept is really interesting, the accent is on understanding others different than you and showing love and support. Basically, lots of emotions, it doesn’t have action or a complicated plot, but as a soft story, it’s pretty good.
The Case Files of Jewler Richard
Tumblr media
This show is so filled with emotions and softness, it’s amazing! It’s mostly peoples stories - problems and difficulties they overcome on their own or with help of the people close to them, which also have some connection to a jewel. The plot focuses more on the main characters in the later episodes. But the art is very pleasing and the main characters have good chemistry. Of course, it’s not for those who don’t like a bit more of a slow paced story, mostly based on storytelling and human interactions. But it’s still good ^^
Watched but got to lazy to properly review: Ishuzoku Reviewers (sometimes you just have to admire that someone had the imagination to come up with some of the episodes), Sorcerous Stabber Orphen (not terrible, not that good either)

Another World Domination: 3 Isekai Anime That Make You Want to Move Dimension
1. Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!
Tumblr media
Unfortunately sold off to a demon by his damn parents, who knew that it was the beginning of Iruma’s fortunate life.
Suzuki Iruma, a 14 years old boy bought by a demon, was adopted as the demon’s grandson and sent to a demon school in a demon world. Different from what he had imagined before, he was loved and well respected by the others. But, he then realized something: the others didn’t know that he was a human! Would his fortunate life end if he was found out?
This anime is hella funny and enjoyable. The MC, Iruma, was lucky af so that it made him somehow OP and respected by the demons. A fresh isekai anime to watch. You must try watching this one!
2. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensura)
Tumblr media
Died from being stabbed on the street, a middle-aged man got a second chance of life. However, he was not given a new life as a human; he was reincarnated as a slime. A slime with ridiculously strong power that made him followed by many monsters!
Tensura obviously is one of my favorite isekai anime and one of the anime I often rewatch since it is too fun to watch. Another top-tier isekai anime that must be included in your watching list.
3. Bofuri (I Don’t Wanna Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense)
Tumblr media
Maple, a rookie player in VR game NewWorld Online, was clueless enough while playing the game. So, she ended up doing things the other players never ever thought of doing: eating monsters. That eating monsters thing made her OP and surprised the other players and even the game system itself.
It is a game-themed anime that offers you a light but exciting story to follow, especially for those who enjoy anime with many girl characters!
《《 Special Mention 》》
1. Ascendance of a Bookworm
Tumblr media
A bookworm level+++ died and got reincarnated as an ordinary young girl living in medieval times. Having a dream to be able to read again (since at that time books were very expensive and only nobles could afford them), she had a journey of inventing products from her modern world, including producing books to read.
2. Hamefura (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom)
Tumblr media
An otaku girl got reincarnated as a villainess of a game she used to play before she died. In order to avoid unwanted future of hers based on the game plot, she became a good girl and was nice to all of the main characters. But then there was a problem: they were all now too attached to her!

Fall Anime 2019 Part 2: Fanservice
Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu!
Tumblr media
Here we go. We’ve had some isekai that wasn’t totally bad for one reason or another, but of course that couldn’t last. Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu, or Choyoyu if you want to be merciful, or High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World if you want spoilers, is so nakedly isekai that I’m actually kind of confused. You see, usually isekai is about some loser that gets transported somewhere where his mediocrity is overwhelmingly powerful. I don’t like it, but I get it. Choyoyu, on the other hand, is about a bunch of kids that are already hax and get transported to another world where they’re even more hax and also elf girls give them tongue kisses. Is this for people who are so emotionally fragile that they don’t even want to be reminded of how much they suck in their isekai power fantasies? Then again this is written by someone who also thinks that politicians (one of the kids is the prime minister of Japan... yeah) are supergeniuses, and that if you max out journalism, you prestige class to ninja. Yes, it is more or less comedic and so bizarre that it almost seems like an attempt at parody again, but lemme check something real quick...
Nah, I’m all out of benefits of the doubt and running low on fucks as well.
Azur Lane
Tumblr media
So, Azur Lane then. I could tell you all about how it’s a gijinka thing about World War 2 warships, but then you’d say “isn’t that just Kantai Collection” and yes. Not to mention that Azur Lane seems to be more popular than Kancolle now, so either way this isn’t very surprising. So let’s just go over the differences: Azur Lane isn’t almost entirely Japanese ships, and there’s a three-way fight of Axis vs Allies vs Aliens going on. The upshot of this is that Azur Lane is mostly shipgirl(s) vs shipgirl(s) and not everyone vs mobs. And that’s it for the one difference that matters, apart from that it’s a bit more varied than the Kancolle anime was, but that just gives it an uneven tone that swings between Gochiusa-levels of fluffiness and lesbian twincest aircraft carrier villains hamming it up. Characters? We have several dozens of them, thanks for asking. If you play the game or stalk Danbooru/Pixiv religiously, you might even care about them. The (supremely silly) action is technically alright, but doesn’t reach the level of “impressive”, and of course it’s hard to follow with so many obligatory participants. I’d label this one “fans only” and even for them I’d assume it’s just decent at best.
Null Peta
Tumblr media
This is a short about a child genius that misses her (dead?) sister so much she builds a robotic version of her. Several mishaps later and she’s stuck with something that most closely resembles Doraemon if Doraemon was all ara ara and also all mofu mofu (apart from when the spikes come out). As far as wacky children’s adventure comedy shenanigans go, this seems to be fairly agreeable, but where it really shines is how it looks. This season admittedly hasn’t had a real sakuga heavy hitter so far, but Null Peta comes the closest to one since it looks quite dope, especially for a weird random short. 5m/week and nothing too annoying make this one easy enough to follow up on.
Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy
Tumblr media
Here we have the example of an anime where I would admit that it’s pretty good at what it wants to be, but what it wants to be is just intolerable. This appears to be a reverse harem with the theme of all the boys having some shade of chuunibyou (if you gotta ask, you don’t want to know) going. I even like the protagonist girl, she’s likeable and shows a bit of personality when being exasperated at the gang of incredibly annoying idiots surrounding her. But that’s the problem: In particular “Red”, a genki runt with a sentai gimmick, is a show destroyer all on his own. The others aren’t quite as bad as him but I’d still accept maybe one of them per harem at most. It does alright in execution, visuals, timing and so on (DEEN’s “poor man’s SHAFT” team, cf. Meganebu, seems to be seeking a comeback), but you’d have to be embarrassingly thirsty for idiot dick to put up with this shit.
Val x Love
Tumblr media
Just to prove that I am an equal-opportunity harem h8r, here’s a non-apparently non-reverse one and yes, it also sucks. Not only is it easily the cheapest looking show so far, it’s also reminiscent of the Conception school of harem setup: If you must know, Val x Love is about an ugly ogre of a dude whose lonely house is suddenly stuffed full of Val(kyrie)s (= 9 Japanese harem archetypes because, you know) by none other than Odin himself between cuts. He then has to fight some monsters by cuddling one of the Vals, which unlocks their super or something. Barebones, uninteresting and crappy looking, this one is a real stinker and should be of interest to nobody.
Fate Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia
Tumblr media
It’s the seventh story arc of the hit mobile RPG Fate/grand order! How do I know? Because they talk about how they skipped the previous six ones, presumably because they’re boring. Or more boring, at least. It’s Fate, and I know an embarrassing amount of details about Fate (e.g. enough to know that the Rinclone that appears apropos of nothing is Ishtar), and I’ve even seen First Order (which sucked), but this stuff is impenetrable, yo. This iteration on F/go definitely doesn’t care for people who don’t play the game, rare as they may be, and at best you’re supposed to let the proper nouns wash over you and enjoy the spectacle. It’s just that it’s CloverWorks this time, and while an attempt was made, shit just blows up way gooder over at ufotable. So the spectacle is insufficiently spectacular, and Mash is still insufficiently moe. In the end this does nothing to change my opinion of F/go away from “functionally identical to every insipid homebrew Servant thread on /a/ ca. 2010, also Shiki can kill Servants, discuss″, and I ain’t watching 2 cours of that.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun
Tumblr media
Iruma-kun is a goodhearted boy whose scumbag parents sell him off to some demon, who then transports him to hell and enrolls him in demon school where demons try to step to him. Isekai and battle harem is my first suspicion, but not so fast! It’s not a light novel, and while the general gestalt of this setup might resemble a certain conical helix, this appears to merely be convergent evolution. In other words, it’s just a funny kid’s manga, and it’s not even bad for that. It’s colorful, moves at a decent clip and I was moderately amused by the antics of Midoriyaface trying to dodge the ol’ KILL BY DEMONS. It’s just that I also know that this is very much not for me, and while it’s better than say, eIDLIVE, I don’t think I want to stick around. Props where they are deserved, though.

TOP 10 ANIME OF FALL 2019 - WEEK 4
Hey guys, this had been an amazing week with another fun and interesting anime lineup entering our top 10 making this season quite unpredictable.
1. Psycho-Pass Season 3: I must say that the greatest reason why Psycho Pass ended up in the top spot is because of Kogami and Ginoza's cameo appearance. Nonetheless, the whole 45-minute run of the anime had been a fantastic and amazing ride. Animation is truly looking lit, and more conspiracy is being unravelled.
2. Ahiru no Sora: I am not a big fan of sports anime but when i saw a good one, I'll definitely recognize it and such is the case with Ahiru no Sora. Of course, it's quite hard not to compare with the classic Slam Dunk, but this story of our ugly ducklings will definitely inspire you. Not to mention, animation were cool and flashy.
3. Kono Oto Tomare! Season 2: Despite starting the season quite weak, this anime is definitely back on track and as usual, it's drama never ceased to amaze us. I just really love how well-written this anime is, and how amazing it could make the viewers fall in love with it without really becoming over the top.
4. Sword Art Online III - War of the Underworld - Now, this is a very heartbreaking episode and I love it too. Now, we see where the main villain came from, that flashback on his past is quite dark and psychotic. Well, since we are dealing with the human soul, fluctlights, maybe it's appropriate to be kind of lunatic here. Plus, I am definitely looking forward for Asuna diving in too.
5. Stars Align (Hoshiai no Sora) - This is not your typical sports and school anime, I really like how every episode made us step closer to the darker past of the characters in the story, and how its implication to their actions. Nonetheless, this is a very fun anime with so much potential to dominate this season. Once again, the music were just top-notched.
6. Welcome to the Demon School!! Iruma-kun: Watching this anime is a hell of an entertaining ride. These young demons sure is fun to follow and even adorable to certain extend (cough cough Clara). It seems that Iruma's value in the demon world is truly gigantic and I just can't wait how his adventure unfold. Is the power of their friendship will be enough for his classmates to accept him in the future despite his real identity as human - their prey?
7. High School Prodigies Have it Easy Even in Another World - Finally, a real intense episode and it did satisfy me in every level though I am definitely wanting for more fight scenes.
8. Beastars - this episode is just PERFECTION. The way the stage play had been deviated and how Louis handled it magnificently despite Bill going haywire, and Legosi unveilling a darker side of him. In the end, the disaster concluded spectacularly and that's truly a fascinating show to experience.
9. Chihayafuru Season 3 - Chihaya and his Karuta shenanigans finally debuted in our Top 10 list. It has been an exciting, fun, and inspiring week for the viewers. The competitive karuta scene is definitely something else and I love how every character have something inside of them - a reason that drives them to give their best and pursue what their heart aspire.
10. Blade of the Immortal - this quite a huge dropped in the list from our last week's no. 1, nonetheless, it feels great to have a glimpse at the backstory of the antagonist and see where he came from. So, in this case we somehow get to understand his motivation, and that flashback were just both mysterious, ambigious, and beautiful.
Honorable Mentions:
11. Cautious Hero - at last we did witnessed our hero in some serious fighting sh*t and it's effing amazing.
12. Food Wars Season 4 - Megume simply rocks this week and it's about time for their effort to be recognize. I just really can't stand that girl announcer though with her dumb biases. Haha.
13. Ascendance of a Bookworm - this anime really turning to be pretty consistent and beautiful. As a bookworm wanabe, this anime really gives off a unique take on the isekai genre.
14. ORESUKI - demn, this week had been hell of ride and it's amazing how its generic plot could be written spectacularly and entertaining enough for the viewers to savor every seconds of its absurd comedy.
15. Granblue Fantasy Season 2 - have to admit that this anime had been among the weakest this fall 2019 lineup but I felt good that this week episode had been a good one and decent enough. I am looking forward for more improvement though.

Winter 2020: Episode 1
I decided to check out some anime that came out for this season. I’m still not sure if I’ll be watching their entire series so I’m not gonna do the post reacts like I do with ‘Mairimashita! Iruma-kun’ so either I’ll do this kind of thing every week after seeing the episodes of each or would just post an individual overall reaction about each series after they finish or if I ever decide to drop them. I’ll be trying that ‘3 episode’ rule thing everyone does to make it easier for me.
Tumblr media
First of all, Madoka Magica: Magia Record.
A ‘Madoka Magica’ spin-off based on the mobile game with brand new characters but the original cast would show up later on, too. The first episode is fun and interesting already with the mystery surrounding the main character’s wish she’d forgotten about and the girl appearing in everyone’s dreams. The feel of the first episode is kind of different from how I felt while watching the original series and not in a bad way. I think I would follow the entire series just because I loved ‘Madoka Magica’.
Tumblr media
Next is Bofuri: I Don’t Wanna Get Hurt So I’ll Max Out My Defense.
About a girl named Kaede who isn’t really a gamer but was convinced by a friend to play her first VRMMO. Since she doesn’t like pain, she decided her first weapon would be a shield and that she’d put all of her starting stat points (and every point she’d earn from there on) into increasing her defenses. It proved to be a good idea when she gets achievements that make her stronger. It’s another ‘MC is OP’ but this isn’t isekai and the main character is female which is nice. Not sure if this will have a harem since male versions of this type of stories end up that way.
That said, despite the things I feel about how OP characters in stories like these are created, at least there’s a reason for how it happens to Kaede with many of the achievements being reachable by any player if they’ve played long enough and have good weapons and experience and it’s just Kaede’s defense is strong enough to help her reach those faster.
Tumblr media
The Case Files of Jeweler Richard
Nice guy Seiji saves a guy named Richard one night and find out the latter is a jeweler. He asks Richard to appraise his grandma’s ring and this unravels the mystery behind it and Seiji’s grandma. Richard ends up hiring Seiji to work for him and his Jewelry Store.
I like the characters, the art style is good, and there’s hints of bromance that makes me wanna ship the main characters BUT I tried out this show because of the ‘Case Files’ part of the title. To me, if a detective/mystery show isn’t as fun or as good as ‘Detective Conan’ then I’d probably get bored of it and drop it. I can’t really say much about the first episode so I’ll see the next one to find out if this is worth watching to the end.
Tumblr media
Socerous Stabber Orphen (2020)
I didn’t see this coming but an anime I watched when I was younger got a remake. The story was enjoyable so I had planned to check this out since I saw the trailer. It’s about a mage named Orphen whose trying to get his friend Azalie to turn back from being a dragon after she got herself cursed. The art is kinda similar to current anime which makes me miss the old art style (he looked better in the old one but everyone else feel like they got cuter). I also really, really miss the OP of the old one ‘Ai, Just on my Love’ as it felt like it fits the magic/badass feeling of the story.
Anyways, the first episode is way different from the old one (sorry if I’m doing comparisons) but here, Orphen meets his companions differently and Majic isn’t even his apprentice yet. The way he meets Claiomh is also different that it didn’t start out with a misunderstanding although this time. This also shows us Orphen’s backstory from the start unlike in the original series where it’s kind of like a spoiler. This first episode isn’t as interesting as the older one but hopefully, it gets there later on.
Tumblr media
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun
Kept seeing this guy when playing mudae on Discord and I thought he looked cute and the title of the manga he came from is interesting and looked it up only to find out it’s getting an anime lol. I was planning on seeing this one, too and the first episode was cute and fun to watch! It certainly feels the same way it felt when I watched Iruma-kun. I’m also intrigued by ‘Seven Mystery’ stuff as it’s been a small plot/arc in some stories but this one is gonna have it as it’s actual story.
In this, a girl named Nene hears about the school’s 7th mystery and sought it out as it’s rumored to grant wishes. She meets the ghost ‘Hanako’ who, after several events gets bound to her to help her out of a curse in exchange for her being his helper. It’s really cute and I already ship them XD
Tumblr media
Hatena Illusion
Kana comes from a family of famous magicians and secretly, of thieves. She’s very excited to see her childhood friend Makoto again as the latter would be living with them only for her excitement to be shattered once she realizes she has been mistaken all these years as Makoto isn’t a girl but a boy. Makoto on the other hand is happy to see Kana again whom he nicknamed ‘Hatena’ (but is surprised that she now dislikes him) and will also be an apprentice to Kana’s father which is something he’s always wanted.
This is like, romance with a magical girl transformation in it and all that. I think the art is cute and it seems like fun but Kana is uh... kinda annoying? I mean, she’s the one who misunderstood everything and it’s not like Makoto lied to her but she proceeds to insult him, nearly had him kicked out of the house when he had just arrived (she was thankfully persuaded not to), and is just mean to him and in the end wanted to steal something from him that was from her mom saying ‘She wants to help her mother’ and stuff when she’s just being petty. I’ll give this 3 episodes and if I still don’t feel it, I’ll drop this.
Tumblr media
Lastly, A Destructive God Sits Next to Me.
Koyuki just wants a peaceful life but unfortunately for him, he’s classmates with chuunibyou Hanadori who wouldn’t stop bothering him as Hanadori thinks that Koyuki is also ‘reincarnated’ like he is. Determined to not let Hanadori’s antics ruin his life and his education, Koyuki strives to ignore the weirdness happening around him but he still ends up reacting and usually getting mad at the chuunibyou.
I wanted to watch this when I heard of it months ago - cute guys that look like I can ship them and the story seemed fun. Also, I needed something after the ending of ‘Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy’ (still waiting for that ova...) and this seems perfect. Although this reminds me more of ‘Tonari no Seki-kun’ with the whole ‘MC tries to concentrate on studying but can’t ignore their classmate with the strange hobbies’.
The first episode is really funny for me so that’s good. It’s also got that secondhand embarrassment cringe comedy but surprisingly, it’s for the main character and not the chuunibyou (I feel so sorry for Koyuki). Unlike in Chuubyou, the other characters in this show either thinks Hanadori is annoying or weird. To be honest, as much as I’d like not to feel this way, Hanadori is kind of annoying. Hopefully either he gets better or he just ends up growing on me before episode 3 finishes or I may drop this. I mean, no matter how funny it is, annoying characters still kinda get to me.
--
Like I said, I have a lot on my plate now compared to the mere 3 last season and I’m still watching Iruma-kun as it’s still ongoing. Will I watch these all until the end or will I be dropping some? We’ll find out...

Winter 2020: First Impressions  - the rest of the shows
Haikyuu!! To the Top! (S4) - What can I say about this show, it’s more Haikyuu!! It’s absolutely fantastic. This is a bit of a slow-burner so far, very reminisce of season 1 so far, a lot of learning and training. It might seem to be a bit of a let down after the action-sakuga-fest that was all of season 3, but character growth is just as important and despite it being a number of years since season 3, the story picks up right after that insane high, so the flow of the story needs to reset its equilibrium. So a but of a slow lul is important before the boys to go Tokyo to kick ass!
Isekai Quarted (S2) - I mean, it’s more of the same except with the shield hero and gang in the other classroom. If you liked season 1 you’ll still like it, if you didn’t then don’t bother watching. That said, I love it.
In/Spectre (Kyokou Suiri) - This is definite my surprise show of the year. It’s so fucking good! It’s one of those shows like Bunny Girl Senpai of last year that lives or dies on the quality of it’s conversations rather than any action or sakuga. And dear lord does it deliver. The MC is so freaking adorable, I love her. Please watch.
RikeKoi - I’m getting serious Wotakoi vibes from this show. There are so few shows that are about adults or college students that honestly I’ll take anything that has this age range. And as a comp/sci graduate myself, I can’t help but love these complete dorks. And holy fuck main girl is perfect. A ponytail that moves on its own, an absolutely banging bod, and tights that remind me of Miru Tights. It’s a masterpiece and the two MCs are fantastic together. Please watch.
Infinite Dendogram - This and Bofuri are the 2 VRMMO shows this season and honestly Bofuri is the clear winner of the 2. In fact Bofuri is in my top 5 of the season. This one might be lower than Darwin’s Game which is an edgy death game show, so that’s not a great rating. It’s not exactly bad but it feels like it’s wasting the potential of the shows setting by focusing so hard on fairly bland MC and his maid weapon AI partner. I’ll probably keep watching it, and I hope it improves, but it probably won’t. At least it looks pretty good.
Nekopara - Cat girls. What more is there to say? Considering this is from an eroge where the goal is to fuck the neko girls, this show is surprisingly tame and wholesome. Definitely one worth watching.
Toilet-Bound Hanako-san - The art-style in this show is very unique. It feels like there isn’t actually a whole lot of animation in the show, because the show is presented to us in frames of animation where the rest is beautiful art background. The story is almost secondary to the visuals, but it holds up in its own right. A very good show and should be seen.
Dorohedoro - Man, I so wish that this show could get the amount of eyeballs it deserves, but alas, it is in Netflix jail. That said, there are some quality fansubbers taking it on this season and for that I am very glad. The art and character designs are so fucking unique I hardly know what to say other than please watch it. It’s one of those shows where you’re not entirely sure what exactly is happening, but you know you definitely want, nay, need to keep seeing more of it. Watch it now if you can, or at the least when Netflix releases it from Jail.
Ishuzoku Reviewers - This show is a show of true culture. I’ve been saying ever since I heard it was getting an anime adaptation that I can’t believe it’s getting an anime adaptation. I read the manga, I knew what it was about. It’s a group of adventurers traveling around and trying all the brothels of the different species of succu-girls. Turns out the anime decided to make this a hentai, but without the direct penetration shots. Episode 3 though, that took things to another level. This was being aired on funimation as a censored version that was basically unwatchable, so I’ve been surfing the high seas to find high quality uncensored versions. And they exist, and they are absolutely fantastic. However, apparently funimation forgot to look into what the hell the show was before they promised to not only air the show, but also to provide a dub. Cause after the first episode dub attempt they completely dropped the show. There’s still 8 episodes left, so hopefully a fansub group or two will step up and champion the cause.
A Destructive God Sits Next To Me - I’m normally down for wacky chunni shenanigans, but I just couldn’t get through the first episode, so it got dropped.
Smile Down the Runway - I really wasn’t sure what I was going to think about this show. It’s about a girl whose dream is to be a supermodel for her dad’s clothing agency and walk down the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week, but she’s too short. It’s also about a boy she meets at school who just wants to be a fashion designer and loves to make shows. I did not expect that the show would pull a bait and switch and for the majority of the focus to be on the boy and not the girl. I also did not expect to be shedding a few tears by episode 2 because I was so emotionally invested already. It went from a show I was unsure about, to being a show I’m now going to be eagerly looking forward to each week.
Hatena Illusion - If I had to drop another show, it would be this one. It doesn’t really do anything great, but it’s not offensive in anything and is at least moderately enjoyable. Plus, I started it so now I feel like I have to finish it. But I don’t hate it. A solid 5-6/10.
Natsunagu - I wasn’t able to find an english sub version of this and the reviews I did see said it was mediocre at best. So this show never got started.
Now for a few thoughts about the continuing shows I’m watching:
My hero Academia S4 - The Overhaul arc was a slow burn that led to a spectacular explosion with some insane hype levels and some very hard emotional hits. I’m glad we’re now headed into the Culture Festival arc as the show feels like it needs a little bit of lightheartedness to get us back to a good equilibrium.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun - This arc feels like it’s kinda spinning it’s wheels and dragging things out longer than needed, but these characters are so fun that it’s fine.
Ahiru no Sora - Moar backetball!! This show is just a solid sports anime. Can’t wait to keep watching. It’s a full adaptation with 50 episodes and only 16 or so have aired.
Babylon (The last couple episodes) - Talk about shitting the bed. The ending of this show ruined so much setup and promise. It leaned hard into the philosophical and should have leaned into supernatural. Such a disappointment.
Kabukichou Sherlock - This show continues to be a pleasant surprise every week. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.
Blade of the Immortal - I’m a bit behind, but this show continues to deliver.
Re:Zero Director’s cut - Damn, I actually forgot how much I actually like Re:Zero. It’s a masterpiece that I had somehow forgotten was a masterpiece because of how I binged it when it originally aired. This double episode format is honestly even better. The first season I continuously wanted more and more, but with a double length episode every week, I feel like I’m getting just enough to satiate me until the next week. I’m sad that come the spring it’ll be back to 1 normal length episode a week lol.

5. List all anime you have ever watched
This one is sort of impossible to do, because I sort of stopped counting about five years ago when I started watching seasonal anime. From what I remember I grew up with Kimba the White Lion, Moomins, Pokemon, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Digimon and sometimes I would catch glimpses of Sailor Moon. The “real” anime that really got me in anime was D. Gray Man and from that point on I got into Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Black Butler, Bleach, Wolf’s Rain, Ouran High School Host Club and Ao no Exorcist. I think I never really got into long series like Naruto (I had a friend who watched all episodes several times and pretty much just told me the whole plot after I gave up somewhere in the middle of Shippuden) and Fairy Tail (my other friend really liked it and tried to get me into it, but I don’t think I watched more than 50 episodes). I also watched Death Note and I found it pretty interesting (though I needed subtitles in my native language cuz I was still 13 at the time and didn’t know a lot of difficult English words).  Yu-Gi-Oh! was that one anime for which I didn’t lost interest and it also convinced me to start watching anime in Japanese (5Ds was still ongoing at the time, right somewhere in the middle of Dark Signers arc). I was slowly getting into cosplay at the time and I met a very good friend at one of the local anime conventions who introduced me to a lot of good anime like Shiki, Mirai Nikki, Attack on Titan and Code Geass. I guess that’s when I figured out I like certain genres, especially supernatural and mystery, though there were several anime whose genres I didn’t like that much, but I still loved the anime. Sometime in 2015 I started watching seasonal anime aka. I would read all descriptions for upcoming anime, pick up to eight of them and pick one that was “old classic” alongside it. This hasn’t changed much ever since and it is a pretty good way to stay in touch in anime. I tend to drop a few of them after 3-4 episode rule, but I try to be patient if the story, characters or setting are especially good. The current anime I’m watching right now are: Pokemon 2019, Pet (anime version of Inception basically), Breakers (anime shorts about para-athletes), Somali to Mori no Kamisama (cute story about a golem and a little girl that he adopts), Uchi Tama?! Uchi no Tama Shirimasenka? (hilarious show about daily lives of cats and dogs), Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (supernatural mystery about urban legends in school aka. Seven Wonders), 4th season of My Hero Academia and Mairimashita! Iruma-kun (My Hero Academia basically, but with blue Deku and demons). Out of “old classics” I’m watching Fafner in the Azure (mecha, post-apocalyptic anime) and Kyou Kara Maou (probably the funniest Isekai anime I ever watched and it is just getting funnier ever after 50 episodes).
So yeah it would be better to just ask me if I know a certain anime or not, rather than asking me to list down everything I’ve watched so far.
 6. Popular anime you didn’t like
The thing with me is that I’m sort of following the rule “First watch, then judge” and that I tend to avoid popular anime because I enjoy rare gems more. Like I needed a while to get into Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia because it was everywhere and so talked about it was annoying, but it is still among my favourite action series due to incredible story writing, memorable characters and unique setting. It was easier with Yuri on Ice! and Kimetsu no Yaiba because I got to watch it before they became so popular and that’s one of the many reasons why I started following seasonal anime.
If I have to point at one or few popular anime I don’t like, then that’s probably long shounen series like One Piece and Dragon Ball. I don’t think I saw more than twenty episodes for both and I guess the reason was that I just didn’t find it interesting enough to continue or I didn’t like the humour. The main issue I have with long shounen series is that they follow the same cookie-cutter recipe where you have a hero who goes through a long training arc and then goes through a long villain fighting arc which just gets tiresome after a while. There are long shounen series like My Hero Academia and Kimetsu no Yaiba that put more emphasis on the well-paced story and don’t drag on as much.
I’m also not that fond of popular romance, drama and slice-of-life anime like Toradora and Clannad. I understand why people like it, but I’m very picky when it comes to such genres in anime. That doesn’t mean I don’t watch such genres at all, it is just that I prefer them in a certain way. For example, I really love Charlotte, anime that is considered bad due to a plot twist somewhere in the middle and rushed ending, but I actually really like those parts and find them really emotional. The story was just so well put together. But for anime movies like Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms and Silent Voice… I didn’t find it emotional at all due to how forced it felt and the story was very clumsy when exploring such difficult themes. In this case, it wasn’t that I didn’t like them but more like I saw potential in them and was disappointed when it wasn’t properly developed.

Fall 2019 Power Rankings
1. Shinchou Yuusha ~Kono Yuusha ga Ore TUEEE Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru~: I thought this show had no chance based on the concept but thanks to a masterclass comedic performance from Toyosaki Aki it ended up being the best show of the season. It even had a real ending and everything. ★★★★☆
2. Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai!: I didn't expect Bokuben to actually end, but all the heroines got some nice wrap-up arcs and Furuhashi was the best girl as ever. One of the great rabukomes of recent years. ★★★★☆
3. Babylon: Boy did I never expect us to be here. The first strand-type anime must truly be seen to be believed. ★★★☆☆
4. Houkago Saikoro Club: Cute girls playing board games cutely is already an amazing concept, but Midori is waifu tier and puts this show over the top. Tomita Miyu is rapidly becoming too powerful. ★★★☆☆
5. Watashi, Nouryoku wa Heikinchi de tte Itta yo ne!: This is probably my least favorite Oota Masahiko anime, but it's still in fifth because the comedy god always delivers. ★★★☆☆
6. Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld: Alicization went abruptly in another direction with its second half and it was dearly needed; the sidelining of Kirito and elevation of Asuna into the main action finally made SAO hype again. ★★★☆☆
7. Hataage! Kemono Michi: This was such a weird show, but it had lots of cute girls with and without kemomimi. ★★★☆☆
8. Fate/Grand Order -Zettai Majutsu Sensen Babylonia-: If we were rating just on animation quality F/GO would win everything, but unfortunately the story is just stupid and bad. If you like sakuga (and tsundere Ueda Kana characters), though, this one is can't-miss. ★★★☆☆
9. Nurupeta: Speaking of weird... This cute short about a beeg beeg oneechan went in directions I never expected. ★★★☆☆
10. Azur Lane: Could be higher if not for the production spaghetti that hit it late, but despite it Azur Lane still manages to nail the cute girls doing cool things genre. ★★☆☆☆
11. Mairimashita! Iruma-kun: When this show hits, it really hits thanks to the blessed Pripara combi of Moriwaki Makoto and Fudeyasu Kazuyuki, but the source material is not very good and it shows at times. Just give me more Clara and kaichou. ★★☆☆☆
12. Rifle is Beautiful: This show was a real underdog but somehow came back to make wiimote rifle actually compelling. ★★☆☆☆
13. Val x Love: This rabukome is hampered by an unappealing male protagonist but the girls are pretty stronk. ★★☆☆☆
14. Assassin's Pride: I really wanted to love this show because it has a wonderful aesthetic and a great Ayaneru character, but the story is not really there. Lots of good flat chested girls though. ★★☆☆☆
15. Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu!: If you read the title you can probably tell this show has an incredibly dumb premise, but the author of one of my favorite shows of the last decade (Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry) somehow salvages it into something at least moderately worth watching. ★★☆☆☆
16. Ore wo Suki na no wa Omae dake kayo: Cute girls, dumb story, it is a tale as old as time. How come my favorite heroines always get tunred into the comic relief? Cosmos-senpai didn't deserve this. ★☆☆☆☆

#OTHERING#thats literally what im obsessed w in these types of stories#op if u have any recs ab isekais that focus on othering... pls lmk#ToT
I wrote a video game on that exact theme actually! It's free and it takes about five minutes to get both endings.
As for my recs:
Inso's Law, an isekai where the protanist ends up in a world that is 99% similar to her own, save for a few differences (she has a new childhood friend, her school is different, ect.) The story spends a lot of time exploring what's it like to be suddenly thrust in a life you have not lived yourself while everyone else is acting as if you've always been here- and how would someone bond with others when they have no idea when they could be yanked back to their original world at any moment.
The Fabled Warrior. Ten years after your regular isekai story, Evil rises again in the stock fantasy world, so the knights are sent to get the hero who helped them once more... only to learn that on earth, 30 years passed, the hero is now a mom with responsability, and isekaiting REALLY fucked her life up on earth so she is not eager to go back to this bullshit. The story focuses mostly on her life coming back from her isekai adventure- what do you do when you've been missing for almost a decade? What do you even tell people? Who would trust your crazy story?
If you're willing to stretch a bit:
The World of Moral Reversal, an isekai where a girl ends up in a world where all gender morals are reversed, ie: girls are expected to be super horny while boys are constantly sexualized on ads. It's mostly a comedy/satyre of gender roles, but there are also some very good moments of "this world is different from mine in a way that is both fundamental and impossible to explain and it is VERY hard for me to live here even if it supposedly puts me in a position of power."
Mairimashita! Iruma-Kun, in which a kid got sold to a demon by his shitty parents... demon who wants him for one specific thing: to be his grandson so he can brag playing tarot with his friends. Mostly a comedy/fantasy of belonging and being loved, but it also touches on "I am the only human here and I have to hide it from everyone including my closest friends, and the fact that I have to keep such an important part of who I am a secret is kinda killing me."
If you're willing to stretch it a lot, watch Jumanji (1995) if you just came back after ten years locked in a fantasy world hunting to feed yourself only to learn that your family and everyone you've ever held dear is dead and gone would that be fucked up or what.
Tried my hand at this uquiz thing

My favourite anime of 2021
Previously: 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012
Here’s a list in no particular order:
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season (not final yet)
Yuru Camp△ Season 2 (I binge-watched from Season 1) 👍
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season Part 2 🗺️
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season and Part 2 🗺️
Horimiya
Dr. Stone: Stone Wars
World Trigger 2nd Season and 3rd Season (ongoing) 👍
Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? 🗺️
Kingdom 3rd Season (continued, super delayed since 2020) 👍
86 and Part 2 (ongoing)
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun 2nd Season 🗺️
Boku no Hero Academia 5th Season
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu 🗺️
Ousama Ranking (ongoing) 👍
Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru 🗺️
🗺️ = isekai genre 👍 = highly recommended
The most anticipated series for me this year are actually World Trigger and Kingdom because they are soooo darn good (no spoilers here, so SRSLY MUST WATCH).
Some isekai-genre animes are pretty decent, though I think, Kumo Desu ga is surprisingly unique and different than all other isekai animes.
Ousama Ranking is probably the most interesting underdog this year. The name is not eye-catchy, artwork is not that good, but gosh, the storyline is so… wow. Feels like a kid's story, but with very deep meaning.

Fall Anime ‘19
Wow, it’s the end of another season! We mostly focused on the continuations from the previous season like dr stone, fire force and vinland saga and got hyped over the shows that got new seasons (chihayafuru, psycho-pass, bnha, radiant, stop this sound, rwby, nanatsu no taizai...), but here are the new anime that we watched this season ~
{ Winter ‘17/18 }  { Spring ‘18 }  { Summer ‘18 }  { Fall ‘18 }  { Winter ‘18/19 } { Spring ‘19 }  { Summer ‘19 }
Ahiru no Sora
Tumblr media
Okay, yeah, it’s another sports anime, but it actually has charm! The main characters are outcast in one way or another and they bond and get their life straight by playing basketball and forming a team. A pretty typical setting, but the characters are interesting and I actually really enjoyed the story, even though it’s not plot heavy.
Ascendance of a Bookworm
Tumblr media
I really like this anime. It’s not action isekai, more like slice of life so people who like action and fighting will probably find this boring, but for people who like a sweet slice of life story, I’m sure it will be great ^^ Characters are great and after a few episodes the plot gets more interesting.
Babylon
Tumblr media
This detective anime is kinda of a roller coaster ride since some of the episodes are good and the others will leave you wondering how come so many new names appeared (or you will have to rewatch some scenes to understand what is going on with the politics). The first episode will shock you and the second will leave you wondering what is going on, but I think it has an interesting enough plot to watch it until the end. Even though as a mystery and thriller it’s pretty good, it deals with the subject of suicide a lot, so it might not be for everybody.
Beastars

This one was recommended by Joey, the anime man and I must say that I am not disappointed. Although the anime is made using CGI, it won’t hurt your eyes because the animation is well camouflaged. The story goes well above the typical high school romance since it deals with the problem of the difference in social status in the world. Would recommend!
Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

What would an anime season be without an isekai anime, more often than not, several of them. In this one, the mc is kinda different than most and that’s what makes it pretty okay. Not the greatest of the genre, but not unwatchable.
Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!

I think this is a pretty normal isekai anime of this kind. What you think of it when you read summery is pretty much what you get. It’s not bad and it has some good moments. It doesn’t get boring if you watch it once a week, but I’m not sure is it for binge watching.

I’m a bit disappointed with this anime. At the beginning I thought it would be great, I mean finally someone tries to befriend animals and beasts instead of just killing them off, but after few more episodes I kind of lost interest. It was an interesting idea, but not delivered in an interesting way.
Kaibukichou Sherlock

And now, a bit of a different story of Sherlock Holmes haha It has some a bit easier detective work, fun settings and various type of characters, also Sherlock is quirky enough to live up to his name. It’s not the most engrossing story, but it has a few laughs and it’s pretty decent for one episode a week, but not binge-worthy material.

This anime is really good for comedy and relaxing. I think this kind of anime people really like or don’t like at all, but it’s funny, cute, colorful and characters are great! There is not really much plot wise, but they really make it work - so try it! ^^
No Guns Life

The main protagonist has a gun instead of his head, what more could you possibly wish for? xD If you were into stuff like Gangsta this one will be definitely for you since it deals with a similar theme. Filled with action, well placed humor and astonishing animation, you will love this cyborg ex-soldier from the first few episodes.
Special Crime Investigation Unit - Special 7

A detective team in a world that has vampires, dragons and other type of fantasy creatures. The story is a bit lacking or gets really obvious, but that kinda is this shows charm. Also, the variant type of characters keeps it just interesting enough to keep watching, but it’s not something that’ll keep you at the edge of your seat. Not a bad idea, maybe just not such a great execution. I enjoyed the voice actors tho!
Stars Align:

It’s a sports anime about soft tennis, but focuses more on the characters, their own problems and how they deal with them. Most of the anime is soft, heartwarming and funny, but it also has a lot of serious themes such as domestic abuse, over-controlling parents and gender and sexuality questions, so it may not be a show for everybody. But it does tackle each theme very well and the main character is very kind and understanding, so even though it gets to some serious topics, he and his friends maintain a heartwarming atmosphere. A really good anime, great characters and definitely would recommend.
Dropped: Stand My Heroes: Piece of Truth (typical otome, a lot of really good voice actors),  CHOYOYU!: High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World!,  Africa no Salaryman (gets an honorable mention, because it had great voice actors and actually was pretty funny sometimes, but with the long episodes it got kinda tedious)
