Unfortunately I do half need eng subs since I only learned up to intermediate mandarin in highschool / college. And uh. Native speaker comprehension is still a bit hard for me!! thank you for being so considerate and providing so many options

I mostly came here to thank you but I saw ur most recent post and im curious about 开始推理吧 . Because. I love escape rooms… and murder mysteries…

Whoa i realise i received this a while back now, and i completely forgot to reply, sorry.

But the truth is, I also don't know much about 开始推理吧, to be very honest. I watched 1 ep so I know it's a murder-mystery + escape room, and I hear it's good, but cast chemistry is also huge for me, and the stars casted in 开始推理吧 were 1) new to each other and 2) on average, a bit more mainstream/younger/closer to idols than the ones in MXDZT S1. Notably, the cast lacks a veteran MC. It takes time for casts like that to develop chemistry and I didn't have the patience to wait.

The roles that Sa Beining and He Jiong have/had in MXDZT really cannot be underestimated. They're seamlessly and discreetly organising a LOT of the flow even while looking like they're just fooling around.

Honestly I really loved the Flying Yoga episodes and the last Field Day, and Telepathy had it’s charm. I didn’t really hate any of the new ones in their entirety looking back, and each episode had at least several moments that made me laugh or smile… but I guess the energy just felt lacking sometimes? I think some of them just felt a bit boring too maybe (probably because I wasn't a huge fan of some of the concepts). I think it didn’t help that they had the whole “hiatus” thing looming over them.

Tbh, I’ve still yet to get through every Run episode, especially some of the later ones (because I started watching them chronologically) so I’m probably missing some key moments! But here are some of the ones I really enjoyed!

21 - “The Taste of Korea” (this is the first cooking episode so it just has lots of iconic moments!) 25 - “BTS vs Zombie” (a true classic imo) 52 - “The 50th Episode Special, Pt. 2” (I just love theme parks) 54-56 - “BTS Picnic pt 1-4” (kind of like a mini BV with some strong sentimental moments at the end) 64-66 - “BTS school pt1-3” 70-72 - “BTS in Toronto pt1-3” (another mini BV) 80-81 - “Operation 007 pt1-2” (definitely a fan favorite) 84-86 - “Summer Outing pt1-3” (1000% recommend these) 105-107 - “Photo Exhibition pt1-3” (has a really iconic Jimin moment at the end) 119-120 - “Photo Story pt1-2” 127-128 - “777 Lucky Seven pt 1-2” (two of my favorite episodes ever! underrated imo) 141-142 - “BTS Collaboration Variety Show pt1-2" (this is part of a collaboration with the Game Caterer’s, so some of the episodes are on their Youtube channel. Here’s a playlist with the other parts if you’re interested!

IIRC you watch Run BTS 141 and then 1-3 off this playlist, Run BTS 142 and then the rest. The first three YouTube videos where they each have a secret mission are definitely at the top of my list, so chaotic and funny!)

Special Episode - Fly BTS Fly pt1-2 (honestly two of my favorites overall now that I'm looking back)

And an honorable mention to episode 41 (I think it’s pt2 of something) which is the origin of the Lachimola running joke

Anyways, if you feel like it, let me know if you end up watching and enjoying any of these! Like I said, I'm probably missing a lot of great episodes, but these were all super memorable and funny for me!

Bad Buddy is on YouTube, free for all, on the official Gmmtv account 😉 just search for bad buddy ep 1. They all have eng subs already possible which is a great move on gmmtv's side.

Kieta Hatsukoi will be coming to viki soon. I had a great Page for the subs but they stopped when it was announced that it would come to viki (and Netflix?). Since I still have other shows to watch, I will wait until it's available, but there are probably streaming options you can choose if you can't wait.

I wanna get into JTTW but there's like, so much. I just watched the demons strike back/conquering the demons movies and I loved them and I want to know more about this story, but I don't know if I can read a 2000 word epic. Do you have any recommendations for a new comer to this story?

Hi anon! So happy you’re interested in JTTW- it is the love of my life hahaha. 

Glad you enjoyed the demons strike back series (it’s one of my fav adaptations)! You’re right in that there’s a LOT of media out there, and all very different from each other. My personal favorite series is the 1996 TVB show, just titled Journey to the West, but it’s one of those adaptations that’s more fun when you already know the basics of the original story.

I’ve made a master post of JTTW live action TV serials here! I’ve tried my best to link Eng. subs when available.

Here’s what I would recommend for newcomers! Start with JTTW 1986 or the 1999 cartoon series (this one, I believe, is on youtube). The latter takes more creative liberties, but the former still remains the truest to the book overall. You don’t have to finish it (granted, it is a very dated series but it has a charm to it lol) but I do recommend at least the first 3 eps or until Wukong meets Sanzang.

Alternatively, you can watch the 2011 series, which is also in the links above. Again, I’d prioritize the “origin” eps, so you get a sense of who the disciples are and what their relationship to Sanzang is. Every adaptation takes liberties, but some do it better than others lol.

After that, I’d point you back to the TVB series, which I highly recommend at least watching all of season 1! It adapts key arcs extremely well and character/story development is stronger than most shows today!

Another animated film, Monkey King: Hero is Back (2015) is a great watch too, but this one, I’d wait until you know the general story first. Then the movie will make you go “oh” and “ahh” in a good way ;) 

And of course, there are abridged versions of JTTW out there! I’m not a big fan of Arthur Waley’s edition because of the awkward name changes (Wukong = Monkey, Wujing = Sandy, etc.). And I’m not the biggest of Overly Sarcastic Productions’ jttw series either, but that’s more of a personal thing- so I would actually recommend watching some of OSP’s youtube jttw videos for a quick rundown of the book (just keep in mind that it’s very surface-level and they don’t always get all the details or characterization right!).
