I like this version too, but I still think the original is important. Because in the original, at least the one I heard, the other animals don't give reasons. They just say "Not I", and usually have them doing something fun in the pictures like fishing or playing ball. Some versions I've seen had them making excuses that were obviously flimsy or lies. So the Hen ends up doing all the work herself because no one wants to help her, not because they're busy or tired. But when the reward comes the others are eager to have the bread. My version did have the hen refusing to share the one loaf she had, but said if they help her next time they can make more and have a party.

My mom explained it to me like this: If ("when you're older") you don't pitch in just because you don't feel like it, don't believe you're entitled to the reward. You aren't entitled to someone else's work you're not paying or trading for or helping them do. It's up to them whether to share it with you.

Now this version is different--the other animals give a REASON why they're busy or tired. Not an excuse, a reason. And the Little Red Hen obviously accepts those reasons because these are her friends and she can see them working and is still happy to share at the end and made enough for everyone regardless. But the others are also sorry they couldn't help and not expecting or demanding to get bread since they couldn't help. Everyone is understanding and gets a reward.

One quiet day on the farm, the Little Red Hen found some wheat seeds and decided to make bread.

"Who will help me plant these seeds?" the Little Red Hen asked.

"I would." said the Horse "But I'm a workhorse, and I'm too busy moving carts around."

And so the Little Red Hen planted the seeds by herself. And they grew into bountiful golden crops.

"Who will help me harvest the wheat?" the Little Red Hen asked.

"I would." said the Dog "But I'm a guarddog, and I'm too busy keeping away burglars and predators."

And so the Little Red Hen harvested the wheat herself and made it into flour.

"Who will help me bake the flour?" the Little Red Hen asked.

"I would." said the Pig "But I'm a mother of 5 newborn piglets, and I'm too busy taking care of my young."

And so the Little Red Hen baked the bread herself into twenty beautiful loaves.

"Who will help me eat the bread?" the Little Red Hen asked.

"We would." said the Farm Animals. "But we're ashamed, for we didn't do anything to make the bread."

"Nonsense!" said the Little Red Hen. "You, Horse, helped move around the stones that built my oven. You, Dog, kept me safe while I worked. And you, Pig, are raising a new generation of Farm Animals, who will too contribute to our Farm one day. You've all helped me so much by simply being you."

"Besides," the Little Red Hen added. "I couldn't possibly eat all the loaves on my own, most of them would go to waste. Come, eat with me."

And so the Little Red Hen and the Farm Animals ate the bread together. And all saw their own, and each other's, worth.

Tbh I was radicalized this summer when you said we have progressed past the need for eddie therapy spec and fics. i havent read a single one since and probably wont again and my life has been so peaceful since… he literally does not need that. He just needs to feel secure and open with his feelings, needs to let people love him fully, and maybe some grief counselling/a support group to go to occasionally. If frank was going to help with that he would have in s3. (no offence to people who write/read therapy fics Im sure they are wonderful and profound and frank is actually good at his job in them)

helpppp good. thank you for giving me an excuse to talk about my beloathed therapy eddie because i think it’s so so so funny that after 8x06 the predictable response was that eddie needs to go to therapy. which i feel like there are soooo many things happening on both the character and the story level. like what’s funny is that frank really could not be a good therapist on screen because that’s not interesting tv. i’m not a therapist but i imagine that in fear-o-phobia he should have probably like. worked with eddie to decide on who he’d try to contact, figure out how the conversation might go, work on coping strategies, etc. but obviously eddie had to blow up. it’s funny because all of the other presumably “good” work frank does is completely off screen. because it’s uninteresting. so eddie wouldn’t have the kind of therapy arc people think he should have anyway, it’s quite literally just something people demand because they need a virtue signal that eddie is “trying” (and of course therapy is the only picture of “trying to heal”). the fact that he’s growing and dealing with stuff outside of therapy is like, not acceptable i guess? i think it’s also funny that as far as fic goes eddie is pretty much always in therapy but it is truly once in a blue moon that we see buck or really any other character talk about therapy.

anyway on the character level. obviously people who relate to eddie’s experience might find therapy really useful but i am not talking about real people i’m talking about a character who is fake. something that is very funny and interesting to me is that in the fear-o-phobia scene eddie is pretty much being resistant and mean and a bitch the whole time but when frank says “you can’t put all your feelings in a box eddie because someday it’ll blow up” and eddie literally already knows what’s going on (“…and take me with it”). actually eddie pretty much always knows what’s going on when he’s having issues it’s just he packs it all down. so seeing a character like this do the internal pathologized work of therapy with just. A Therapist. is… soooo boring to me. it’s funny because i do think frank was right. like in the end i think it’s sort of indicated that eddie is not only feeling this survivor’s guilt/pointlessness but that he also fears he’s going to end up like all the other people who share his pain. so he does need that sort of external pathway to dealing with his issues, like… exactly what you said… leaning on the people in his life… loving them and letting them love him… perhaps a support group or volunteering or whatever… in terms of an actual story these things are soooo much cooler and more fun than what therapy stuff can offer eddie specifically (like… strategies? identifying various cognitive distortions? idk). because he’s already a character who’s always in his head… it’s so much better. To Me. to see him work through things in other ways. such as by talking to a gay priest.

Animals are scary when they’re acting unpredictably and bugs are so erratic that it freaks people out most of the time. The roaches I have are different from the common “pest” kinds and are a lot more predictable but even still that doesn’t mean I dislike other roaches as well, they’re just little guys doing their own thing!!

I don't know if I'm in the minority on this, but I love writing essays. The feeling of choosing something that seems fun, getting to research it, organizing what you've learned in a neat and tidy way, and now having a random pocket of knowledge that stays with you for the rest of your life is something that I can hardly ever replicate elsewise. Some of my favorite hyperfixations have come from essays and other research projects that I had to do for school (like when I learned about LSD for a biology project on cell communication, or when I wrote a speech on neopronouns for a public speaking class)! And I miss so much having a class where I can just... do what I love, for credit! I haven't had a research class since my first semester and I'm feeling it 😔 One of my friends asked me for advice about choosing a topic and I got so excited at just the mention of a research paper that I started happy stimming hard, lol. I really should just write a paper on my own time, but then I'd need some executives to function for once, *sigh*.

- Return of the King (J.R.R. Tolkien) // So glad I finally read this! This was supposed to be a buddy-read with @raisedtokeepquiet​ (sorry that didn't work out!), also thanks for tagging me! 

- Tress of the Emerald Sea (Brandon Sanderson) // This was a reread as I finally received the special edition hardcover. A lovely fairytale-like story with pirates, a talking rat and an interesting magic system (and plenty of Cosmere connections to theorize about).

Look how pretty the book is! And I got a nice bookmark with it.

Current:

- The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for surviving medieval England (Brandon Sanderson) // (Yes I did have to look up that title, because it is too long to remember). Year of the Sanderson Secret Project #2. So far a nice whimsical story with a hint of deeper mystery that I'm very curious to see unravel.

- Matilda (Roald Dahl) // This is also a reread, but this time in English (first time was in Dutch when I was a kid). Recently watched the new Netflix Movie Musical and wanted to reread the book.

Next:

I usually pick whatever book I feel like reading at the moment when I've finished a book, so I don't really know yet. I might pick up A Discovery of Witches (Deborah Harkness) or maybe The Unbroken (C.L. Clark).

Here’s something a little different. You know how everyone thinks of Atom’s classic appearance when they think of him?

Well, Atom actually has quite a few outfits and so I decided to share a few I like! Of course, I will use examples from various canons and this is just my opinion.

For the 50s manga, my favourites would definitely be Atom’s school uniform and his outfit in the Once Upon a Time arc. This could just be the art style, but the big round buttons are cute!

I also really love the clothes he wears in Once Upon a Time, Atom: The Beginning also has this outfit in Tetsuro Kasahara’s art style!

I’ll admit that I haven’t seen much of 1963, but one episode I saw had Atom as a cowboy! He looks adorable!

1980 has a wide variety of different outfits, but they’re generally similar. I really like the yellow sweater he wears here, it suits him! There’s also a light blue version out this outfit too, Atom suits light blue and yellow.

This was also an episode in 1963, but Atom becomes captain of a space expedition to Mars! I just love the thought of someone tailoring the uniform just so it would fit Atom, and he looks great!

After all, seeing the content expression on your face as you chew your (or his) food is one of his favourite things.

The fact that Suna has a near infinite amount of unflattering candids and other blackmail material of his friends on his phone is something you’re well aware of. So it shouldn’t be surprising either that he is digging up the most cursed reaction pics or posts to send them to you with nothing but ‘u’ following it. But, among all the weird stuff, he sends you cute animals cuddling and tags them with ‘us’. Every time you respond with ‘that could be us but you’re at practice’, his teammates come up to ask what he’s smiling about.

But your time to shine comes as Iwa asks you to hold onto his legs as he does sit-ups, giving you an even better view. All your hard work is rewarded with the kiss he presses to your lips each time he leans up.

Driving with Semi is also the most fun, especially on late summer nights with the windows down, going nowhere in particular.

To outsiders, conversations between Kenma and you might seem a little court or even incomprehensible. He just happens to be the type that lets his actions speak rather than his words, unless he gets really fired up about something. Still, your communication seems to work perfectly - or maybe both of you just share a brain cell. Questions like “Have you seen my…” can just be left hanging like this as you’re already pointing out that his old Nekoma sweatpants are in the wash. But no conversations are clearer than the ones you can hold through eye contact alone. Sometimes rolling your eyes conveys more than a thousand words… or however that saying goes.

It’s something that came with the territory of not living together before, but the practice never really retired. Equally, it puts him in a good mood to see you update him on your day as well.

Daichi and Asahi are kind of used to it already, but there is always some new unfortunate soul who gets to experience just how smitten he is with you. Although, lately, the classes he’s teaching have picked up on it and are trying to stall for time by asking questions about you.

This probably started out as something entirely practical. After moving in together, Sakusa just started labelling stuff, writing grocery shopping lists and sticking them to the fridge, especially on days where he left early for practice. By the time you pointed out he could just text you at any given time, he’d already gotten used to this little habit of his. But his messages had slowly turned from chore-related to reminding you to take care of yourself or informing you he prepped lunch for you to just telling you he loves you. The first time he wrote that last one, he blinked down at the note for a few moments before sticking it to the mug cabinet.

Obviously, Komori wishes his job wouldn’t pull him away from you as often as it does. Though that being said, it also makes coming home after an away game all that sweeter and he feels like the constant change of pace makes him cherish the moments you do get to spend together more than he already does. And he appreciates that you can indulge him, both in his lifestyle and whenever he gets a sudden burst of energy. So yeah, now you’re bundled up in one of his hoodies as you go on a late night snack run, your hand in his as you walk along the calm streets.

Remembering little things about you x Futakuchi Kenji

Futakuchi comes pre-installed with an attitude, no matter who you are to him, it’s his factory setting. And while he’s a lot softer on you as his partner, he’ll still give you a sarcastic quip or poke some fun at you when you complain about something to him.
