4) Make me choose between two things: Favorite drink = Tea, and Favorite Meal = Curry... I think I'd have to go with the food, because I drink tea every day I can, and I would be out of my caffeine fix without it. But man would I miss my curry.

5) Ask for advice:

My art advice is embrace being messy. A lot people try and stay really neat and tidy and get worried about being messy, but you can always clean your work up. My second tip would be to work on the entire thing and gradually add the details everywhere. Nothing sucks more than getting one spot really detailed and well proportioned -- like an eye -- and then realizing that you got something else, like the nose, in the wrong spot. If you start with a loose/messy sketch and generally refine it/add details everywhere, it makes it much easier to correct proportions. For me at least ^^

Other than that? Practice is your best friend! And studying references for different body parts.

6) Tell me a secret: I adored writing with you too, and I can't wait to write more with you :D I love so many of the ideas you've sent, and I think we have at least five more fics to write, lol!

Strange as it may be, I tend to associate people with certain ones of my stories. It might be a comment they left me or that they gave me the idea. For you, you were the first person to ever give me a comment on an aoex story, and you gave me a lot of courage to keep writing BTSAS and some great ideas for it. So (weird as it might seem), whenever I do something with that story it makes me think of your encouragement. You're also the reason I gave writing Renzou and Yukio a try, and I always associate them with you ^^ Outside of that? One Piece (I started it because of you) and positivity.

Alex is nervous when he enters the park, his heart beating loud and fast in his chest. He is pretty sure that everything will be fine, but there still is this little voice inside his head that tells him that this is going to be a disaster.

“Dad, you are crushing my hand!”, Philip whines, and Alex looks down at his son.

Philip´s hair is a curly mess, even though Alex had tried everything to tame it and he is wearing his favourite green shirt with a koala on it.

“Sorry, Pip. Are you excited to meet Thomas?”, Alex asks

The 5-year old nods enthusiastically and gives him a big toothy grin. Alex instantly feels better and smiles back.

“Is he excited to meet me too?”, Pip asks a bit shyly, looking up at his father with big eyes.

“Of course, he can´t wait to meet you.”, Alex gives back, and that seems to reassure him, because he smiles again.

And it´s true. Thomas had told Alex weeks ago that it would be fine by him if he´d bring Philip over so that the two of them could meet, but Alex had hesitated. He was afraid that the two of them wouldn´t get along and he would have to break up with Thomas, something he definitely doesn´t want to happen. The relationship with Thomas is the first time since Eliza´s death he is truly happy with someone else, and he doesn´t want it to end. He was also afraid how Pip would handle it if they would break up, so he has waited a long time to introduce them. But now their relationship is serious enough that Alex can´t keep the two people who are most important to him separate anymore. The prospect of them meeting still scares him, but at the same time he is excited about it.

Alex spots Thomas before the other man notices him and feels a happy flutter in his stomach. His boyfriend is sitting on a bench in the shadow, typing something on his phone.

“Do you remember the pics I showed you of Thomas?”, Alex asks, and Pip nods. “Let´s play a game; whoever spots him first wins.”

Philip looks around in the park for a few moments, until he points at the Virginian.

“Is that him?”, he asks excitedly.

Alex smiles proudly down at Philip.

“How did you find him so fast? You are amazing. Let´s go and say hello.”

Philip grips Alex´ hand a bit tighter as they walk over to Thomas, but there is a determined look on his face. Thomas gets up from the bench when he sees them and smiles brightly.

“Hi.”, Alex says with a matching smile and presses a quick kiss to Thomas´ lips.

“Hi back.”, Thomas answers, before he crouches down to be on the same level as Philip.

“Hello, I´m Thomas, your dad´s boyfriend.”, he says with a smile.

Alex feels Philip clinging to his hand, but he gives Thomas a small and shy smile.

“My name is Philip.”, he says quietly. “Nice to meet you.”

He glances up to his dad for a second, before he holds out his hand. Alex feels proud and happy at the same time, the smile on his face almost hurting. Thomas takes the hand and shakes it.

“It´s nice to meet you too, Philip. Your dad has told me you like ice cream?”

Pip giggles and nods.

“Yes, I love ice cream.”

“Do you want to go and get some?”

At that the small boy looks up at Alex, and when he nods, he turns back to Thomas.

“Yes, please.”

Thomas stands back up, takes Alex´ other hand and they start walking to the ice cream stand, while Philip babbles on about his favourite ice cream flavours.

“He´s adorable.”, Thomas whispers in Alex´ ear, and presses a kiss to his cheek.

Alex feels himself relaxing at that and leans his head against Thomas´ shoulder for a moment, but instantly, he feels Philip tucking on his hand.

“Daddy, are you even listening to me?”, Philip asks, and Thomas lets out a small laugh.

“Of course, Pip.”

That seems to be sufficient, because he continues rambling about ice cream. When they reach the ice cream stand, Alex lets go of Thomas´ hand and instead picks Philip up, so that he can look at the different favours. While Thomas orders one for himself, Alex debates with Pip what he should chose.

“But if I take cookie and chocolate, it will be too sweet, but I want them. And I also want raspberry.”, Pip says, and Alex smiles.

“What about you take chocolate and raspberry and I´ll take cookie? And we can share?”

Philip bites his lip and Alex can almost see how hard he is thinking. He looks over at Thomas and catches him looking at them with an amazed smile. He grins back, before he concentrates on his son again.

“Okay.”, Philip finally says, and Alex orders their ice cream.

Thomas pays for them too and they make their way to a park bank, Philip running in front of them, and Thomas and Alex walking hand in hand behind him.

“Be careful that you don´t drop your ice cream!”, Alex shouts after Philip, and Thomas laughs.

“He looks a lot like you.”, Thomas says, watching Philip.

Alex can´t deny that it makes him somewhat proud to hear that. Everyone says that Pip looks like him, but all he sees when he looks at his son, is how much he resembles his mother, his Eliza.

“You´ve seen pictures of him.”, he tries to deflect, but Thomas shakes his head.

“I know, but it´s even more impressive in real life.”

Alex smiles.

“I´m glad I finally introduced you two.”, Alex says after a while, and he really means it.

“You know, I didn´t believe that was possible, but I think I´m even more in love with you now.”, Thomas says with the same amazement in his voice Alex has seen in his face a few minutes ago.

For once in his live, Alex is at loss for words, so he just pulls Thomas down and kisses him.

Homecookings [August ed.]

Is summer over yet........ ?! Seriously. I really dislike summer. .. I just dislike heat & sun, in general. Not that I overheat easily but it doesn’t feel good, you know what I mean? I am sooooo looking to fall! & then during the winter months, I’ll be looking forward to spring.

As you know from the individual posts, I went to Hmart for the 1st time since this whole thing started & I on like a shopping spree. I went on a wknd to the U of A location of Hmart, & bcos of other errands, I only had ~30mins in there. I did “speed shopping” in there & didn’t revisit any aisles more than once lol it was so much fun! But other than that, I had some night shifts this month, which occurred during the hottest days -.-” so I mean, it was nice bcos the commute to work was rather cool (midnight to 0800h), but trying to sleep mid-day was a struggle, like it always has been for me; however, it was worse bcos it was so hot! So yes, I didn’t sleep for a few days. At all. Like maybe 3 hrs over 3.5 days ish. It’s baaaaaad, I know.

Anyway, let’s move onto the food; you’ll see what kinda of stuff I eat when I’m doing night shifts :P

I started doing this thing where I add kim mari (deep fried seaweed rolls that contain glass noodles inside) to my ddeokbokki’s. I love the extra crunch/texture it brings to the dish!

Due to the heat, salad rolls became my family’s primary choice for “lazy dinners”. We’ve tried diff ingredients, just to switch it up. Like obviously we’ve had the ‘traditional’ kinds that contain Thai basil, shrimp, lettuce, pickled carrots etc.. but we also had chicken & basa fish as ingredients. Oh! & we also stuffed some home-grown basil into the rolls too.

Post-night shift meal that was eaten ~0900h. .. so I guess this was my breakfast. Had leftover salad roll with kimchi, pan-seared tofu with cucumber & soy sauce, & hard boiled egg with this new sauce I discovered in my fridge. It’s a Chinese condiment that has small mushroom pieces marinated in a specialty soy sauce lol can be used for cooking or simply topped on rice. It’s pretty good actually!

Another post-night shift meal. .. kimchi jjigae that has tofu, kimchi, & napa cabbage. I ate it with small ciabatta bun & fried egg bcos I LOVE eggs! I never wanna eat anything too heavy when I’m working night shifts bcos I eat 6 ‘meals’ over the course of 24 hrs... so essentially I’m consistently eating. I still don’t really have a coping mechanism or some sort of system that would allow me to be not hungry & can sleep. Maybe eating so much is why I can’t sleep...? But then I get hungry, which also doesn’t allow me to sleep.. . I don’t know. I DON’T KNOW!

Been into this recently - daily berry blend. I usually prefer my fruits ‘fresh’ but there’s a few bags of frozen fruits in the freezer so I’ve been making this. It contains honey, water, frozen home-grown cherries from summer(s) ago, frozen berry blend (blueberry, blackberry, cherry, & raspberry), & a small handful of frozen avocado cubes. TBH, I don’t like the frozen avocado. It has this lemon-y/lime-y flavour to it; it may have been added to prevent the avocado from blackening *shrugs* I am not even sure if it’s lemon/lime, but it has a sourness to it (& no, it’s not expired). So then I started adding some to this drink (just to get rid of the frozen avocados).

Bought these for my niece but I think I enjoy it the most! It is a large Pepero stick, but the fun part is that the chocolate part contains pop rocks so you get 3 different textures! The biscuit stick, smooth chocolate, & the poppin’ rocks~

Cold noodles with a chicken + mushroom + celery + cabbage stirfry using the package-included bibim sauce. Spicyyyy!!!

Scallion & baby mussel pancake with soy sauce. Such a nice, little appetizer! This was actually my 1st time adding baby mussels to the pancakes. Even though the mussels were small, I still cut them up into smaller pieces. I just find that the distribution is better this way!

...Sad moment in my life: I have finished my last pack of these banana almonds. Where can I get more in Edmonton?!

Beef brisket with fat & flat rice noodles. This was such a hearty meal... I have a thing for noodles soups. The broth was made from beef brisket & bones that’s used for brewing soup. My brother put in daikon radish, some spices, & cane sugar. It was light but amazing!

Bulgogi x ddeokbokki ??? haha there was a lot of beef brisket leftovers.. . so I shredded some & made a simple bulgogi consisting of only beef, cabbage, & carrot (no onion, green onion, garlic etc). I stir-fried it with (frozen) cylindrical rice cakes. Then added some water, bulgogi sauce, a small bit of gochujang, & .. . the rice syrup!

^This is an old photo that I have posted before but posting for you as a reminder :P I used this in traditional spicy ddeokbokki. Yes, it made a sweet & spicy ddeokbokki - I neither liked nor disliked it. It was just a different flavour. Just like how every place has their own recipe for it. But for bulgogi, I can honestly say it made a difference with a small teaspoon amount. Bulgogi sauce is already sweet, but this enhanced it & made it even sweeter. I am probably going to use MOST of this syrup for bulgogi instead of for what I had originally purchased it for (ddeokbokki).

Trying this coffee bean for the 1st time. I got this as a gift last yr.. . slowly working my way thru my beans :D it comes in whole beans in the bag, & then I used my electric coffee grinder to grind a small jar of it. I usually grind a whole bag like this & then just . .. brew it till it is all done. Trying to grind in smaller batches & thus not letting the ground beans sit out for too long this time.

Do you ever drive above the speed limit? See, here’s the thing. I use cruise control fanatically to avoid getting a speeding fine. So far so good. But a month or two ago I got done by the cops for speeding, but it’s because they got me just as I’d finished overtaking someone. That’s literally the only time I’ll drive faster than the limit. To overtake someone. Not because of the law or anything, I couldn’t give two shits what the law says (I mean look at my Tumblr name lol), I just don’t want them taking my money. Lucky for me when I got done the cop was one of the few reasonable ones and let me off with a caution because he knew I’d just overtaken someone and saw that I’d had a flawless record prior.

What terrifies you? Not having properly lived before I die. The animal holocaust going on every minute of every day. The fact that the environment is getting fucked and all people seem to care about is the economy. We’re one species of ten million. Sometimes I just wish the events of the day the earth stood still would happen. Probably not quite what the question was asking but that is honestly what terrifies me. Anthropocentrism.

Quick shout-out to Mikannie discord peeps that I haven’t chatted with in forever but i love y’all and HERE’S THE FIC I MENTIONED MONTHS AGO!!! :’D oof

“Be my fiancé,” Annie declares as she saunters into the room.

“Your… what?” Mikasa freezes, her coffee cup halfway to her lips.

“Only for like an hour tops,” Annie says. Her eyes are glued to her phone, focused on whatever email or text she’s answering.

“You know it’s me you’re talking to, right?” Mikasa queries, wondering which episode of the Twilight Zone this whole fiasco is supposed to be.

“Look, there’s this amazing baker that’s been written up in the Stohess Times,” Annie explains. “The reviews claim the cakes are out of this world. I guess he’s famous in his hometown or something. Thing is he only does wedding cakes… So we’re sampling them in like twenty minutes.”

Annie mumbles something to the effect of ‘Booked it!’ after shoving her phone in her pocket, then orders: “Get your coat. We gotta go now or we’ll be stuck in traffic.”

Mikasa can’t fathom a response to the blonde’s rambling, merely staring at her as if she’d missed some sort of punchline.

“You like cake, right?” Annie asks, her brows furrowed.

“Well yeah,” Mikasa replies, still unconvinced. “But why are you asking me?”

“Because you’re here and clearly you’re not doing anything,” Annie says, slipping on her jacket. “This was also the only appointment I could squeeze us in. They’re pretty booked.”

“Why don’t you just buy one?” Mikasa asks.

“Buy a wedding cake? For myself? What do I look like? A crazy person?” Annie scoffs, grabbing her car keys.

Mikasa doesn’t have the energy to put up any more resistance, though she desperately wants to point out that Annie’s practically a monster for sweets and therefore if the blonde were to buy an entire wedding cake for herself, she doubts anyone would be the least bit shocked.

Accepting the circumstances for what they are, Mikasa simply shrugs, grabs her coat, and follows Annie out the door. They’re about to hop inside her car when she suddenly remembers the next phase of her plan.

“Almost forgot,” Annie says, handing Mikasa a silver ring. “Might wanna slip this on.”

“Seriously? This might be too far- even for you,” Mikasa mutters, tentatively easing the ring on. After settling themselves in the car, however, she can’t help but admire the subtle gleam of it. “It’s almost an exact replica of yours,” she notes.

Annie nods, half-smiling. “It looks good on you, Ackerman.”

The trip is mostly silent. When her curiosity gets the best of her, Mikasa googles the famous baker they’re due to meet in but a few minutes. He’s a friendly-looking fellow named Nikolo from the Marley metropolis. The cakes are gorgeous and she admires the artistic quality to them. No wonder Annie had been so insistent.

Mikasa sighs and rests her head against the backrest of the passenger seat. She gets a bit carried away with her thoughts, allowing herself to imagine what it would be like if this was her reality. What if she and Annie were engaged? What if they really were going to pick out a wedding cake? What if the ring she’s wearing meant more than simply putting on a show? (For free food, of all things…)

But she quickly locks those thoughts back to the darkest corner of her mind where they belong and tries to focus on enjoying the day with her newly acquired fake fiancé.

“Okay, looks like we’re here. Let’s go, dear.” Annie’s out of the car before Mikasa can make an objection to the pet name.

They quickly walk into the bakery where they’re immediately engulfed in the sweet smell of sugar. Annie feels right at home.

“Hello! Welcome!” A tall, slim man greets the duo after they’ve entered the establishment. He introduces himself politely and shakes their hands, to which Annie offers the same in return.

“Wonderful to meet you, Nikolo,” the blonde says. “And thank you for fitting us in. We’re aware of how busy you are.” Without using so much as eye-contact as some sort of unspoken cue, she reaches for Mikasa’s hand, holding it ever-so gently and continues with, “This is my fiancé, Mikasa Ackerman. Soon to be Mrs. Leonhart.”

A blush flashes across Mikasa’s cheeks, enflaming the bridge of her nose. Yet somehow, she manages to keep up with the charade, inserting herself into the exchange.

“Thanks for having us,” she chimes in quickly. “My fiancé practically worships sweets and from what we’ve read online, you’re the go-to guy for wedding cakes.”

Nikolo accepts the compliment, albeit modestly. “I’m honored,” he says with a coy smile. “Now please. If you’ll just follow me…” He makes a civil gesture before leading them into a small room away from the show floor.

There’s a small table embellished with innumerable slices of cake, each looking like a uniquely hand-crafted work of fine art almost too pretty to eat.

Almost.

“So, there are many different styles as you can see,” Nikolo explains. “We have the chocolate delight, the raspberry white dream, the red velvet luxury, the lemon supreme, and of course, the classic buttercream vanilla. Please, feel free to taste and try them all, let me know what you think. I’ll leave you to it.” He quietly exits the room, closing the door behind them to offer his guests some privacy.

“…Wow,” Mikasa whispers in awe, still marveling at the decorative array of sweets.

“Still think my idea’s insane, Ackerman?” Annie quips.

“Most definitely,” Mikasa replies without missing a beat. “But this is going to be totally worth it.”

“Well come on then. We don’t have all day.” Annie hurries to the table and sits down, eyes locked on the slice of the white raspberry dream. Before Mikasa can even pull up a seat next to her, the blonde has already devoured half of the slice.

“Mikasa, you need to try this,” Annie manages in between chewing. She lets out a tiny moan, a sound that is practically sinful.

Mikasa rushes to sit down when she sees Annie shove another bite into her mouth.

“Hey now, slow it down there, Annie,” Mikasa warns, eyeing the blonde with a slightly judgmental look. “It’s not going anywhere.”

“Not my fault you can’t keep up,” Annie sasses back, cake still stuffed in her mouth.

“As your fiancé, I demand you-” Mikasa is unable to finish as Annie quickly shoves a piece of cake into her mouth, using the extra fork on the table.

“Mmmmph!” Mikasa grumbles incoherently at first but as soon as the burst of heavenly flavors overwhelm her senses, she’s practically fallen in love.

“How was that, darlin’?” Annie asks. Taunts, really.

“You’re cruel,” Mikasa replies, eyes rolling to the back of her head. “I need more.”

“Mmmm, that’s what I thought,” Annie drawls. “Maybe if you ask nicely.”

Mikasa huffs and reaches for a different slice of cake. Appears to the be the Lemon Supreme. Her mouth is instantly watering.

“Or I can help myself to this gorgeous specimen,” she asserts.

Annie gobbles down the rest of her own slice, feigning indifference. “Suit yourself.”

She scoops up a hefty serving of the red velvet luxury cake and devours the morsel in predatory fashion. Mikasa finds the blonde’s feistiness rather amusing.

“You oughtta savor the taste, Annie,” she suggests, chewing her next bite slowly. “You’re eating way too fast.”

Annie waves her off, cheeks stuffed to the max. “Believe me, I am thoroughly enjoying this experience.”

Mikasa heaves a sigh and shrugs, stealing a small bite of the red velvet luxury.

Oh, yes, she thinks, cherishing every beautiful second of this passionate moment.

This one’s her favorite.

“You’re making that face,” Annie says abruptly, interrupting her thoughts. “You like that one?”

Mikasa quirks a brow. “What? What face?”

“The ‘Mikasa face of approval’,” Annie replies, smirking. “No need to get all self-conscious about it. It’s cute.”

“Cute?” Mikasa’s chewing picks up, as does the frantic beat of her heart.

Annie’s still admiring her fake fiancé’s bashful expression, until she notices the small crumbs and frosting smeared at the corner of her mouth.

“You got something on your…” Annie points the mess out, to which Mikasa merely tilts her head, questioning.

“I got cake on my face or what?” Mikasa asks, setting aside her fork.

Annie nods, a smug expression adorning her face. “Mmmhmmm.”

Mikasa looks away, slightly embarrassed. Before she can grab a napkin and wipe the crumbs and frosting off, Annie reaches for her face, hand caressing her cheek tenderly.

“Here, let me help,” she says softly. And she slowly leans in.

Mikasa stalls, the anticipation looming over her as Annie eases closer and closer. The blonde gently draws her tongue over the smeared frosting, then merges their mouths together in a sweet kiss; innocent yet so deliberate.

Annie pulls away, but only slightly. “I think I got it.”

Mikasa’s breathing is hitched. “Is a… second helping possible?”

“Oh?” Annie hums. “You mean the red velvet or… do you want me to kiss you again?”

Mikasa’s just about had it with Annie’s sass, so without warning she slips her arms around her waist and pulls the blonde in closer. Their lips meet again, this time in a deeper kiss.

She can still taste the lingering presence of red velvet with every curious graze of her tongue.

“Oh, my! I am so sorry to interrupt!” Nikolo stammers as he walks into the room, wondering if he should just tiptoe out and pretend he didn’t witness their passionate makeout session. “Ummm… Just wanted to see if you two were doing all right.”

From the looks of it, it seems to be going very well.

The two pull away from each other, like shy bashful lovers. “We’re doing fine. Thank you,” Annie replies, clearing her throat.

“Everything tastes wonderful,” Mikasa adds politely.

“Perfect! Well let me know if you need anything.” Nikolo forces a smile, preparing to scurry away in humiliation.

“Actually, can we order the red velvet luxury?” Annie requests. “She really likes this one.” She shoots Mikasa a wink before interlocking their hands together.

“Of course!” Nikolo replies. “I’ll be right back with the order forms.” He excuses himself with a bow and promptly leaves the lovebirds to their own devices.

“Really, Annie?” Mikasa chuckles. “You’re really going to buy the whole cake?”

Annie’s gaze lingers to their joined hands and matching rings. Her little scheme to get her crush to try free wedding cake samples has seemingly rewarded her with the best of both worlds.  

She keeps that to herself, of course.

“Why yes,” Annie replies warmly. “Only the best for my fiancé.”

Art: When was the last time you painted something? I don’t remember; maybe about a few weeks before the breakup. I haven’t really been into painting since, but now that I’m over it I should probably dabble in it again soon.

Adventure: When was the last time you really felt alive, and what were you doing? Last Sunday! Watched the Sowoozoo show with Angela and Hans. We set up a huge tent at the rooftop and had fairy lights all around and so much beer and soju and so. much. food. She and Hans ended up bringing most of the food we got home. But when I get a heads up about backstabbers or people who get close for the wrong reasons, I put my guard up around them & just do my own thing.
