TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
thanks for the tag @tastethesetears
BOY MEETS WORLD - ultimate nostalgia show for me. i grew up with these characters, theyre like family.
Favorite Character: Eric Matthews
DOWNTON ABBEY - I am an absolute sucker for good idealized period dramas, and i cant get enough of this show. I hope they keep making wierd fanfic-like movies forever lol
Favorite Character: Thomas Barrow
THE GOLDEN GIRLS - Best comfort show of all time. I love multi camera sitcoms and how they are essentially plays, and the dialogue is iconic. And honestly, living with your best friends in miami and going on tons of dates and having fun is so aspirational lol
Favorite Character: Dorothy Zbornak
PARKS AND REC - Another show where the characters mean so much to me. this show along with himym basically got me through college. also the idea of finding my work family and finding purpose in a career is very aspirational for me.
Favorite Character: Ron Swanson
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER - Another show i watched on almost a continuous loop throughout college. I basically am Ted for better or worse lol. And I have a super tight-knit group of forever friends in real life.
Favorite Character: Ted Mosby
TED LASSO - Solid contender for favorite show of all time. really wonderful show with great characters and great humor. I could rewatch it a thousand times and never get tired of it.
Favorite Character: Ted Lasso/Jamie Tartt
WEDNESDAY -  Latest hyperfixation almost entirely because I love the character of Tyler Galpin so much. Also because the ending between him and wednesday is so upsettingly ambiguous, i just cant let it go.
Favorite Character: Tyler Galpin
SCHITT'S CREEK - One of the more delightful shows ive ever watched. and the theme of finding purpose, love, and happiness later in life is pretty important to me.
Favorite Character: David Rose
TAGGING (no pressure): @beautyofattolia @cosmic-lullaby @chivalry-fell @glitzandshadows @saaliyah @mister-outer-space @redhoodedstepchild

Re-watching the Parks And Recreation 'Ron And Jammy' and realizing that not only did I have several Ron Swansons in my friends group 20 years ago, I watched them help others heal from trauma in very very similar ways.
Also, Amy imitating Megan is perfection. Megan as Ron's ex is perfect. Nick Offerman is his wife's best comedy partner.

Family feud full episodes 200 points first round
Tumblr media
FAMILY FEUD FULL EPISODES 200 POINTS FIRST ROUND FULL
FAMILY FEUD FULL EPISODES 200 POINTS FIRST ROUND SERIES
His name escapes me, but it's Scooter, or Skip McShooterdooter or something strange like that. For those familiar with the show "Parks and Recreation", he looks like a blonde bouffant haired Ron Swanson that sounds a bit like Phil Hartman with John Hurley's diction. Lack of family members aside, once you have confirmed that you're playing, you are greeted by the host, whose name escapes me, but it sure isn't Steve Harvey. They simply share the name of your gamer profile (so, for example, everybody in my group was simply "MattandLaura's family") You also cannot customize the name of your family. Again, if you have 3 human players on one side, and only one on the other, that is all you will show up to play. Since everybody is player controlled, there are no difficulties, however, the same rules and same awkward lack of fake family drones still apply. Party Mode is essentially just a fun exhibition-style mode. This is forgivable since many games suffer from this simple oversight, but irritating all the same. If you are playing for achievements, please keep track of what you've beaten on which difficulty, as you must beat all 16 challenges on all difficulties for achievements, and the game will not visually show you which you've beaten. You can choose from easy, medium or hard difficulty, and begin your road to Feudal supremacy. Make sure you make peace with your achievement seeking friends too, as the game will tell you with no uncertainty that the only person that gains achievements is the lead profile. You can have up to 4 human controlled players on your side, however, they must be carrying their own avatars, meaning if you don't have enough friends logging into their profiles locally (or enough dummy profiles on your own system,) they don't play. That poor little avatar, left to battle 5 computer controlled drones. If you're alone, you are the only person that stands at the entire 5 person podium. The game begins with howevermany human contestants you have joining you. The Challenge Mode is where we will begin, where you place your Avatar at its place on contestant's row, and are then joined by the rest of your fake family. These rules have been the basic rules of operation since Family Feud originally took to the air in 1976. That's it, but you really don't need anything else. There's the Party Mode, where you can play each other head to head with up to 4 controllers. You must not only win each game, but you must win the Fast Money round too to successfully access the episode's unlock, which will be a Steve Harvey blooper video.
FAMILY FEUD FULL EPISODES 200 POINTS FIRST ROUND SERIES
There are 2 basic gaming modes: The Challenge, which is a series of 16 themed event games. Strange, but it's been this way since John Hurley was host, and they revamped the set. The game starts off with the familiar current generation Feud set, where the audience sits behind the stage. Your family consists of 5 related participants (hence the show's name) In Fast Money, you and a partner are given a fixed amount of time to answer 5 questions, of which you must obtain 200 points to win the grand prize. Time to play the feud!įor those unfamiliar, Family Feud is a simple game with simple rules, and a simple objective - Score 300 points before your opponent, and make it to Fast Money. Off came the wrapping, and out came the surveys.
FAMILY FEUD FULL EPISODES 200 POINTS FIRST ROUND FULL
When I found out Steve Harvey blooper videos were in it, I was looking forward to a game chock full of the usual sass and vigor only Harvey could bring to it. Needless to say, when XBA Towers designated me their game show review guy and said Family Feud was being buzzed down from the 102nd floor, I was excited. I spent so much money renting the Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Genesis versions that I probably could have bought one of them, if they weren't so tough to find. I never missed it in my summers off from school. Back then, Ray Combs had taken over for the legendary Richard Dawson and turned it into a hit both in syndication, and on ABC. Family Feud is a game show that has been a staple in my life since I was a child.

Theratopia
Hello, middle-aged Nick Carter, wannabe Ron Swanson, and dear Jacob,
Yes, I know I broke cobitment last week, but I'll keep blaming things on post-Covid syndrome as long as it's convenient for me. But I'm back with another message.
Fellow citizens of Theratopia,
Since my self-election a few days ago, I have been thinking about how can I serve you. Like any good politician, I first make empty promises to then later figure out how to deliver on them. During my first 100 days, I would like to address an issue near and dear to my heart: sense of community. And I count on you to assist me in this task.
All jokes aside, this really is something I have been thinking about and was reminded of during episode 182. We are a diverse bunch but we do have a lot of likes in common that go beyond just listening to the same podcast. It would be cool if we could get to know each other on that level too. I feel like the Therapals should have a place of their own and have felt this way for a long time. As much as I appreciate the Scoop community - hell, I literally intend to marry a person I found there -, not every Therapal is part of the ICS crowd. The idea is to create a safe space for casual congregation and support. Not necessarily just to chat, but where we can share useful resources, practices of self-care that might help others, discussions about the episodes, and just get to know the Therapals in general.
Since it’s kind of part of my brand inserting a personal anecdote to illustrate a point, I have a small tale to share. When I was a young teen I used to go to fanfiction meetings. It started when a small group of friends who met via online forums got together in the common area of their apartment complex. This motivated other groups to organize similar meetings with people from the same forum. These few separated gatherings grew until it became one big bunch of weirdos meeting in public spaces. It was basically an LGBTQIA+ picnic of people with different mutual interests that would otherwise never cross paths. At first, the only thing bonding us was the fact that we shipped two band members, but then it became a safe space to make friends from all over town.
Right now the Therapal community feels a bit like those home meetings. Even though we have a lot of interaction on Twitter, the conversation ends up being disjointed simply because of the nature of that social media. I believe we would benefit from some type of forum or online meeting space. The Patreon interface is not great either, Facebook is... well, Facebook. I thought about setting up a Discord server for PodTherapy, which I see a lot of other online communities using successfully, but I don't know if Therapals would be interested. If anyone has other ideas of what we could do as a community, I would appreciate any contribution. You can find me on Twitter and just @ me. (Can you guys retweet me? I’m “PodTherapy human library” there - Mayor is only my title.) If the Therapals think I'm talking nonsense, that's fine too, I can just keep pestering Nick and Jim with emails because sometimes I feel lonely with a lot of things to say. Joking, I am not this emotionally manipulative.
I hope everyone is staying safe and getting vaccinated,
Triple hug,
The Mayor

Send in 🎉to find out what role my muse plays in a friend group (especially for Oscar, Lisandro, Ambrose... but also anybody else you may or may not desire)
Oscar:
You're the dad of your friend group. You're a lovable grump, constantly torn between the fact that you hate people but love your friends. Whenever anyone suggests a friend activity, you are always the one who suggests staying in with a beer or a nice scotch. You will show up to a party, but you won't be happy about it. Other dads: Ron Swanson, Daryl Dixon.
Ambrose:
You're the godparent of your friend group: always loyal, even though you can drop off the edge of the earth a lot (and take forever to answer emails and texts). But you always show up for big events, and you're the first one called when someone needs to bury a body. Other godparents: Batman, Don Draper, April Ludgate.
Lisandro:
You're the cool aunt of your friend group: You've been there and done that, and you do not give any fucks. You're a natural leader, but you do not care about group drama nearly as much as the mom does. And while the mom might be the planner, everyone comes to you for advice (and to complain about Mom). Other cool aunts: Sophia Burset, Dumbledore, Samantha Jones.

thin mints 5 (lydia x reader)
p1 p2 p3 p4
oh would you look at that, it’s the series that i’ll never finish ahaha
it’s here; the sleepover.
802 words
cw: femreader.
you took a deep breath and stepped out of your car. the deetz house was very creepy. it was dark and decrepit looking, and you could’ve sworn someone was just looking at you from the attic. it’s probably nothing.
you rang the doorbell, and you heard chimes reverberate throughout the house.
a redheaded woman opened the door. “why hello! you must be y/n! lydia’s told me so much about you!” so that was delia. she seemed nice.
”uh, hi.”
”it’s so wonderful you could make it. lydia!” she screamed up the stairs, “your friend is here!” she turned back to you. “lydia’s room is the second on the right, just yell if you need anything, okay?”
”sure.” you started walking up the stairs. that was odd. it seemed like she was rushing to get you out of the room. and was there a noise coming from the dining room?
lydia met you at the top of the stairs. “hey.” she said apathetically.
you looked around, taking every inch of her house in, curiously. “it’s dark here. did you do the decorating? or your dad? i can’t imagine your step-mom picking any of this stuff out.”
”it was a, uh, group effort.” she opened the door to her room, which was even darker than the hall outside. it was almost oppressive.
”pizza’s coming at eight, i hope you like pepperoni and mushrooms. unless delia comes up here, which she promised she wouldn’t, we don’t have to do or say anything.” said lydia, as she sat down on her bed.
”oh, um. okay. why mushrooms?”
”you can pick them off.” lydia picked up her phone and started scrolling. so much for actually turning this into a real friendship. this really was just to get her step-mom to stop annoying her.
you sat awkwardly at the edge of the bed, with your bag in your lap.
after a moment you say, “i was hop- i was thinking that, um, maybe we could actually talk and stuff… like, your step-mom will probably want you to maintain this friendship, and it’d be easier if it were at least partially real.”
”it is partially real. we talk at lunch.” she returned to her phone.
you bit at the inside of your mouth. lydia really wasn’t making this easy. “i know you have friends, i don’t know why you need me here, but i know you’re fine, but i’m not! cou- could you please just pretend to enjoy my company, for once, because i don’t have any friends. i am so very lonely, and please… just pretend.”
lydia looked down, guiltily. “maybe you should’ve thought of that before you committed social suicide and started hanging out with me.”
you felt deflated. you fought the tears starting to form in your eyes. it wasn’t worth it to start crying in front of her. “you don’t have to say the most hurtful thing. here i am, saying that i want to be your friend, and you seem to want to ruin it. you just keep pushing me away and i don’t know why! i am asking you to do something that we’ll both benefit from, and you refuse!”
”y/n, it’s not like that.”
”really? tell me what it’s like then. because it seems to be that you’re just some lonely little girl with a tendency to do every single self destructive thing she can possibly think of! where are your friends? are they even real?”
”y/n, all my friends are dead.” lydia realized what she said, and shut her mouth.
”oh…” you said, suddenly somber. “is that why…? do you not want to be friends with me because you don’t want me to die?” you finally understood, and you felt bad. death just followed this girl around, and you were just making it worse.
”uh, yeah. that’s it. it would really suck if you died.”
”i’m not going to die, lydia.”
”you don’t know that.” she said defensively.
”well, i’m not going to die soon. so, please let’s be friends in the meantime.”
lydia thought it over. “fine. i’ll be your friend. but nothing too deep. i don’t want to know your trauma.”
you laughed lightly, “good thing i wasn’t planning on telling you that.”
”and no lovey dovey shit. you know how some friend groups are always saying how much they love each other? no.”
”okay, ron swanson.” you laughed.
”who?” lydia asked, making a deadly mistake.
you gasped. “you don’t know parks and rec?” lydia shook her head. “i’m forcing you to start watching, like right now. the first season’s only six episodes, so we can easily finish that today, the second is, like, 24 episodes though, so it might be a stretch to watch it too, but i believe in us. we can do it.”

Writing Introverted Individuals: Guide and Sources
Hi Awesome Adventurers! So I’ve had to write about a few introverts on my journey through writing so far, and I’m sure you can find a butt ton of stuff like this, but I wanted to make this easier for you guys and offer up some things that I’ve found. Scroll down to see insightful videos, characters, tips, and more!
First off, here is a list of well-known characters in fiction that are incredibly introverted to study (no, there are no spoilers listed with character descriptions):
Ron Swanson — from Parks and Rec. Ron is definitely very far down the spectrum and could be considered the “stereotypical introvert.” Ron Swanson avoids and nearly despises any social conduct with people, yet he does it in a comical way. If you are writing an incredibly antisocial introvert with zero respect for other life forms, I’d look into Mr. Swanson (bonus: you get to watch Chris Pratt, our lovable extrovert, at the same time!).
Loki — from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The star of Tumblr. I’m sure all of you are familiar with him, and the best thing about watching Loki is seeing his introverted nature compared to the biggest extrovert in the nine realms: Thor. This gives us both sides of the spectrum, and it’s a great thing to watch when you’re trying to differentiate the traits of extroverts and introverts. Loki proves that introverts can be funny and witty, but most accurately shows the con of being the introvert: constantly feeling neglected/left out of things.
Everyone from the cast of The Big Bang Theory, besides Penny — well, not quite, but this show has tons of introverts and is one of the best sources to watch. One thing to keep in mind from this is that The Big Bang Theory is focused on a group of close friends—introverts have social circles, too. Introverts can be loud and boisterous around people they know well (the show has multiple examples of this). However, when these introverted individuals are put in a more crowded setting, some get social anxiety, some can’t talk to women, and some find it exhausting. This show is a landmine for studying introverts, and I extremely recommend it for this topic.
Tyrion Lannister — from Game of Thrones (I’ll repeat this again because I know you: NO SPOILERS). Tyrion is more social for an introvert, but it’s been shown that he likes to spend his free time in solitude. Tyrion is a very independent thinker (a big introverted trait) and is very well read. However, he jokes with people, he is gifted with words (just because introverts have a reputation for talking much does not mean that they are not witty), and is sexually active.
Hope Van Dyne (the Wasp) — from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hope has a very direct way of thinking, and prefers getting stuff done instead of dealing with “fluff.” Hope also had a very cold, loveless background, and while introversion can be considered genetic, it’s interesting to note how the background/backstory of a character plays a role in the level of introversion.
Bruce Banner — from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (played by Mark Ruffalo). This little cinnamon roll keeps to himself, I recommend watching him onscreen and how he interacts with his Avenging coworkers (when he’s less green!). Especially in social situations, where you’ll notice that Dr. Banner is very quiet and keeps to himself.
MARINA — No, Marina, is not a fictional character; she is a singer that is very real, but she deserves a spot on this list of “introverts to watch”. I’ve listened to Marina’s songs for years, and every album shows the struggle of how introverts struggle to just be in the world. One of her most famous albums, Electra Heart, actually describes her trying to change herself to fit in with this extroverted world. If you want to know more about introverts, I suggest listening to one—and this one sounds like a goddess.
Some of you may be new to introverts, so bring over some books and blankets to wrap yourself in like a burrito as we explore/review this: what is the introvert?
Okay, there are a lot of myths associated with the Introvert that we should dispel here: NOT ALL introverts are stuck-up or shy, however, their independent nature sometimes leads people to make these assumptions. Instead of thinking of introverts as the Grumpy Cat and extroverts as the excited golden retriever, let me differentiate them a little:
The main difference between introverts and extroverts is how their bodies react differently. When people hang out with friends, it releases a “happy” drug in our body called dopamine. Introverts and extroverts react differently to this.
When extroverts hang out with friends, this releases dopamine in their body, which energizes them and makes them feel good. However, with introverts, dopamine can be overstimulating and overwhelming, making most introverts start to feel tired after hanging around people. This being said: introverts do not hate people. Interactions have a tendency to fatigue them over time. But this reaction can affect introverts’ opinion on social activities, and can discourage them. Back to sciencey terms, there is a drug that introverts experience that they cope better with than dopamine: acetylcholine. This drug is more of a “slow burn” feel to it, that is turned on when you focus on something or are doing something creating like drawing. Introverts favor this chemical reaction, hence their desire for independent activities. (You can find more about this here)
Introverts also tend to be decisive thinkers, and are at peace when in solitude. As the writer, it’s up to you to decide how sensitive your introvert is, but please, do not make the mistake of assuming your beautiful creation hates people for no reason!
I’ve written about a couple introverts by now, and I am one myself, so here are some experiences, tips, and suggestions on what introverts go through:
What I said above is true about getting overstimulated: I met a good friend of mine about a year ago, and I remember we were hanging out at a Wendy’s (this was back when I was just getting to know her), and after 1-2 hours I just started to feel tired, out of it. There wasn’t anything wrong with her, or me: over time, I could spend more time with her before that tired feeling set in again. Other introverts also experience things like this, but it may not be at the same rate.
Now you understand introverts, and that is awesome! But most people don’t. And that’s a good thing to keep in mind when you’re writing: when you have your introverted character interacting with others, depending on the other character, they may be critical of the introvert’s natural ways. One thing introverts face the most is getting talked over/interrupted when they try to speak. Be aware of your introvert’s unique presence!
Introverts are also very perceptive: they are brilliant observers, and catch more things than the average bear. This seems like something quick to dismiss, but hear me out: introverts can be as perceptive as the deaf. Another personal experience: I cannot tell you how many times I’ve spoiled shows for myself, not because people tell me outright, but because I simply browse the internet (with no intent at all whatsoever), I see pictures, I overhear little details; I start picking up little clues that don’t say it outright but it hints, and eventually I go, “crap, not again.” This is how the introvert’s mind works: it can catch the smallest things, and they’re usually smart enough to stumble onto the right conclusions (this sounds cool, but it can be a real pain in the ass).
I hope this has been helpful so far! Here are a few links I found to videos on Youtube that have some more insightful information about introverts:

Thank you so much for reading, Awesome Adventurers! I’d love to hear what you think about introverts or if you have anything to add, and if you’d like to talk more about this, go ahead and shoot me over something! I hope this helped you out before you go write your fantastic story that will light up the world! Love, fortune and glory to you!!

Logistician ISTJ-A 74% Introverted (How we interact with our environment) 62% Observant (Where we direct our mental energy) 54 % Thinking (How we make decisions and cope with emotions) 85% Judging (Our approach to work, planning, and decision-making 60% Assertive (How confident we are in our abilities and decisions)
The Logistician personality type is thought to be the most abundant, making up around 13% of the population. Their defining characteristics of integrity, practical logic and tireless dedication to duty make Logisticians a vital core to many families, as well as organizations that uphold traditions, rules and standards, such as law offices, regulatory bodies and military. People with the Logistician personality type enjoy taking responsibility for their actions, and take pride in the work they do – when working towards a goal, Logisticians hold back none of their time and energy completing each relevant task with accuracy and patience.
Logisticians don’t make many assumptions, preferring instead to analyze their surroundings, check their facts and arrive at practical courses of action. Logistician personalities are no-nonsense, and when they’ve made a decision, they will relay the facts necessary to achieve their goal, expecting others to grasp the situation immediately and take action. Logisticians have little tolerance for indecisiveness, but lose patience even more quickly if their chosen course is challenged with impractical theories, especially if they ignore key details – if challenges becomes time-consuming debates, Logisticians can become noticeably angry as deadlines tick nearer.
When Logisticians say they are going to get something done, they do it, meeting their obligations no matter the personal cost, and they are baffled by people who don’t hold their own word in the same respect. Combining laziness and dishonesty is the quickest way to get on Logisticians’ bad side. Consequently, people with the Logistician personality type often prefer to work alone, or at least have their authority clearly established by hierarchy, where they can set and achieve their goals without debate or worry over other’s reliability.
Logisticians have sharp, fact-based minds, and prefer autonomy and self-sufficiency to reliance on someone or something. Dependency on others is often seen by Logisticians as a weakness, and their passion for duty, dependability and impeccable personal integrity forbid falling into such a trap.
This sense of personal integrity is core to Logisticians, and goes beyond their own minds – Logistician personalities adhere to established rules and guidelines regardless of cost, reporting their own mistakes and telling the truth even when the consequences for doing so could be disastrous. To Logisticians, honesty is far more important than emotional considerations, and their blunt approach leaves others with the false impression that Logisticians are cold, or even robotic. People with this type may struggle to express emotion or affection outwardly, but the suggestion that they don’t feel, or worse have no personality at all, is deeply hurtful.
Logisticians’ dedication is an excellent quality, allowing them to accomplish much, but it is also a core weakness that less scrupulous individuals take advantage of. Logisticians seek stability and security, considering it their duty to maintain a smooth operation, and they may find that their coworkers and significant others shift their responsibilities onto them, knowing that they will always take up the slack. Logisticians tend to keep their opinions to themselves and let the facts do the talking, but it can be a long time before observable evidence tells the whole story.
Logisticians need to remember to take care of themselves – their stubborn dedication to stability and efficiency can compromise those goals in the long term as others lean ever-harder on them, creating an emotional strain that can go unexpressed for years, only finally coming out after it’s too late to fix. If they can find coworkers and spouses who genuinely appreciate and complement their qualities, who enjoy the brightness, clarity and dependability that they offer, Logisticians will find that their stabilizing role is a tremendously satisfying one, knowing that they are part of a system that works.
There was more, but it was pages of information. I stopped at the introduction! I actually think that this fits her pretty well! Integrity, practical logic, and tireless dedication to duty are definitely traits that Riza has! She takes to tasks with accuracy and patience, and is definitely a no-nonsense kind of woman with her work. She can be seen as cold and unfeeling, although those that know her well know that she has a “gentle heart” and she does hold herself to high standards, becoming frustrated when others don’t meet them (like Mustang with paperwork). She has a tendency to forget to take care of herself, and she definitely needs reminding that she can take a break to take care of herself.
All in all I think this is a good fit for Riza. A lot of this makes a lot of sense for her!
Send in 🧙 to see my muse’s Hogwarts House Result
Gryffindor
Congratulations! You have been sorted into Gryffindor, the house of bravery and chivalry. You have nerve and courage. Not afraid to try anything! House colors: Red and Gold House ghost: Sir Nicholas House head: Professor McGonagall House founder: Godric Gryffindor House animal: Lion Your common room is located in Gryffindor Tower. Have a magical year at Hogwarts!
While I can see her being a Gryffindor, (although to be fair, you can probably make an argument for any house) I don’t think this is the house that she would have ended up in, especially an eleven year old girl. I honestly picture her more as a Hufflepuff. Riza is, by far, a very hard worker. She has a strong sense of justice. She is extremely loyal. She is definitely patient. Yes, she’s brave and has nerve and courage, but I don’t feel like those characteristics are cornerstones of her. But justice, loyalty and patience? I feel like those definitely are. I think that Hufflepuff fits Riza much better.

You got: The Dad
You're the dad of your friend group. You're a lovable grump, constantly torn between the fact that you hate people but love your friends. Whenever anyone suggests a friend activity, you are always the one who suggests staying in with a beer or a nice scotch. You will show up to a party, but you won't be happy about it. Other dads: Ron Swanson, Daryl Dixon.
I don’t agree with this. Riza is social enough, she doesn’t typically seek out a party for a party. She does enjoy hanging out with those she feels close to, and she’s fine going out with the team to a bar, but she also is fine being at home. When she is out, she’s usually the one keeping an eye on everyone.
To me this test just wasn’t a good fit for Riza in general. I had trouble finding answers that fit Riza, (and, tbh, that would have fit me, personally) and it seemed to be aimed more at a more social and less professional crowd, which is probably why I had trouble finding answers that fit her. I also had no idea who the choices of people were on that one question. Like, not. a. clue.
In my opinion, this was not a test that was going to give a character like Riza an accurate read.

january book round up
Tumblr media
27 books this month! the most i’ve read in a month in quite some time, and a good start to the year. a couple days late because i’ve been feeling a bit meh. i doubt i’ll be able to read this much at any point this year. but it’s nice to get a good strong head-start on my yearly goal. a mix of audiobooks and e-books so far.
a land so wild - elyssa warkentin ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a really lovely epistolary/found media m/m romance story, set during the 1840s, about a ship captain and a naturalist trying to chart a northwest passage in the arctic, and find a ship that was lost five years ago trying to do the same thing. very beautifully told, with lots of emotion that you’d think would be lost because of the mode of storytelling.
how to bang a billionaire - alexis hall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a re-read. i remember being very sceptical of this when i first read it, but now that i’ve finished the entire series there’s so much i appreciate about it.
trade me - courtney milan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ my first courtney milan book, after hearing a lot of good things about her. the hype was deserved! i like her writing a lot and this book (a romance between a poor chinese-am daughter of immigrants, and a billionaire heir with an eating disorder) touched on a lot of stuff that you don’t typically see in romance novels. particular what it mean and what it feels like to be poor. this was probably my favourite treatment of billionaires in a novel (at least, ones where they don’t get beheaded).
hold me - courtney milan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the second in the series, equally enjoyable. the hero of this novel has to confront and own up to his sexism in ways that a lot of romance novels would simply let men get away with! if i’d known that that’s part of what the book covered i might not have been enthused to read it, because while i genuinely believe bigoted people can change for the better, i’m not super interested in reading about it. but i really enjoyed how milan wrote it, and the romance was lovely. (also the heroine is trans, nice.)
my lady’s lover - nicola davidson ⭐️⭐️⭐️ not a lot of substance, but it’s historical lesbian romance, which is my eternal catnip. a lady’s maid who’s the member of a society for sexual freedom falls in love with her mistress, and happily discovers that the feelings are returned. there’s sex, some angst, and a happy ending,
a lady’s desire - lily maxton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ another historical f/f romance. pretty low stakes, without much external conflict, but it had good writing and great characters, and i’ll always have a soft spot for childhood friends to lovers. and let’s be real: i mostly picked this up because of the cover. a woman with her head in another lady’s lap, gazing gayly at her? yes, thanks.
rebound remedy - christine d’abo ⭐️⭐️ eh! m/m holiday romance, about a guy who gets dumped before christmas, has a whirlwind rebound romance with his bartender, and then starts falling deeper for him. nothing bad about it, but i just wasn’t feeling the romance. i’ve read shorter stories that had more chemistry and character interaction.
don’t let go - cynthia dane ⭐️ another f/f romance that i got mostly because of the cover, but this one let me down hard. i liked that it was set in taiwan; had a lot of cultural nuance and tidbits that i enjoyed, but everything else, the writing, the editing, and characters, the chemistry... it was a bust. it also had a weird and baffling approach to mental illness, and managed to be yet another book that makes me hate rich people. also... the two authors credited are the pseudonyms of the same person skfjhdfkj ihni why she’s crediting herself twice.
alone - e.j. noyes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LOVED THIS. f/f mystery/thriller-ish romance, though the mystery aspect is admittedly light. noyes has lovely prose and a good sense of storytelling, but the romance is where this really shone for me. which... idk, i’m aware that it might not be for others who read this book. but something about the way olivia fell so helplessly in love with celeste, everything celeste does to hold on to olivia... it appealed to me on a visceral level.
boystown book 1 - marshall thornton ⭐️⭐️⭐️ three short stories about a gay private eye solving mysteries in the community in the early 1980s. it reminded me of how much i love short form mysteries; there’s just something about stories being told that way that i can’t resist. i was also kind of charmed by the way our main character tripped into bed with a cute twink like every 10 pages. :3
poems i sleep next to - shelby eileen ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a collection of contemporary poems. really enjoyable. nothing wowed me, but several poems moved me.
how to talk to nice english girls - gretchen evans ⭐️⭐️⭐️ early 20th century f/f romance between a spirited american heiress and a nice proper english girl. low stakes, character driven. not really character driven enough actually; i felt like they didn’t get to spend enough time knowing each other. and some more external conflict wouldn’t have hurt. but it was hot and fun and well-written.
by his rules - j.a. rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️ an m/m romance that looks at abuse in bdsm communities, and spends a good long time on recovery, survival, and healthy relationships that involve kink. i really could not get into the discipline stuff, but i really liked that the main characters worked for their HEA; nothing clicked magically into placed for them, and aiden was given space and resources to work out his trauma.
the wolf and the girl - aster glenn gray ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a retelling of little red riding hood set in early 20th century russia and france that focuses on the friendship between two young women. simple story, very beautifully told.
the secret diaries of anne lister - anne lister ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i started reading this in the middle of last year, after i finished gentleman jack, and i was basically reading snippets at a time until december, and then by january i was eating it all up. i LOVED this. i loved the diary of this at times manipulative, haughty, but kind-hearted and tender and clever woman, and all of her loves and struggles and observations. there’s just something... very good about knowing and seeing that lesbians have always existed, and hearing her first hand accounts is just... GREAT. really looking forward to the next volume.
oh, earthman! - berlynn wohl ⭐️⭐️⭐️ an anthology of short stories. weird, fun, scifi-flavoured m/m erotica.
emma - jane austen ⭐️⭐️⭐️ took me long enough, i know! but i really really thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book, especially the audiobook, whose narrator i loved. i loved emma: her cleverness and wit and finesse and all her terrible blunders. though i could tell where the story was going, the getting there was really fun, and i super duper enjoyed the romance (though at one point i got seriously squicked out haha). and fight me: i adored miss bates, i thought she was the best character in the book. LOVE a spinster who don’t know when to shut her trap but is earnest and kind and gentle-hearted and GOOD.
«légendaire.» - kai ashante wilson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ kaw, i’m begging you, PLEASE write another fell length novel. or novella. please! i love his writing and world-building so so so much, i flip out thinking about it. until he does, these short stories will have to suffice. this was great: everything i love about his writing, revisiting the world and concepts that we’ve seen in his other books, with mesmerising characters and a tragic, but soulful tale.
a conspiracy of truths - alexandra rowland ⭐️⭐️⭐️ i love stories about stories, and as far as that goes, this a pretty good one! the one way it failed to grasp me was on the character front; i just didn’t enjoy the main character as much as i could, or as much as i was meant to, and i felt at times he was too far removed from the plot. basically, chant is a master storyteller travelling in a foreign land, when he’s falsely accused of witchcraft and spying. the novel details how he uses storytelling to get himself out of the pickle, and all the consequences that follow. there are some amazing side characters in this (esp. his apprentice, who i will definitely read the nest book for).
animal farm - george orwell ⭐️⭐️⭐️ felt like rereading this, so i did. and i mean, it’s animal farm! it holds up.
the overdue life of any byler - kelly harms ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ like i said above, i like books about books, and i got this thinking it would be something like that? but it’s more about a single mother who gets the chance to take some time off from her kids and her life, have fun, find romance, and how she deals with managing that, and the guilt, and all the elements that are introduced/reintroduced to her life. i don’t think this is an amazing book, but it’s a lovely one, and i know there are middle aged mothers out there who would benefit from reading it. it’s not about romance (though there’s a cute romance in it); it’s about motherhood and being there for yourself as much as your kids.
the subs club 1&2 - j.a. rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the first two books in an m/m romance series. a group of friends is still reeling after one of them dies at the hands of an irresponsible dom. they decide to form the subs club; a website to review and rate doms, with an eye towards making the community safer for subs, though it doesn’t really work out that way. the first book follows dave, who ends up getting involved with a guy who’s eerily like ron swanson from parks and rec, and the second follows miles, a masochist who gets involved with a guy who likes to pretend to be a vampire (lmao??). i have to tip my hat to j.a. rock, who seems to have a knack for getting me to read things i’d be otherwise sure i wouldn’t be interested in. and i mean, even after reading, i’m pretty sure i don’t want to read other books about domestic discipline or s&m or pretend draculas, but her characters and plots are well written and engaging and i had a really good time. although, i have to mention: the second book dealt with internalised racism in a way that... while well meaning, was definitely not very deftly done.
alice & jean - lily hammond ⭐️⭐️⭐️ post wwii f/f romance set in new zealand. a young widowed mother falls for the dashing woman who delivers her milk every morning. they have to contend with community scrutiny, an old friend of alice’s husband, and her bitter old mother to fight their way to happiness. i enjoyed it; it was simple and the romance was incredibly sweet, though the writing did drag at times.
american dreamer - adriana herrera ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ DELIGHTFUL. the very definition of feel good romance! a young dominican-american man moves to the outskirts of new york to start his food truck, and almost immediately meets a cute librarian who turns his head. i flipping love queer romances with characters from the caribbean; it just feels so good when slang is part of the language of love.
minotaur - j.a. rock ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i read four books by this author this month, and this is hands down my favourite. i don’t know man, combine girls and monsters and lesbian romance and i”M THERE. thera is a teen orphan sent to a home for girls at the edge of town. there, she makes friends, raises hell, falls in love with the mysterious new girl, and also becomes obsessed with stories of the minotaur, half woman half monster, locked the labyrinth in a cliff not far away. this story appealed to me in so many ways, and i really hope the author writes more f/f in the future.
two dads and three girls - nick (yu) he ⭐️⭐️⭐️ the autobiography of a gay man growing up in china, and the story of how he finds himself, finds love, and becomes a father. very sweet.
whew. that took me a while lol. that’s it for january. i probably (hopefully) will be too busy to read as much this month, but i have some interesting books on my plate. currently listening to an audiobook of beneath a scarlet sky, which is unfortunately underwhelming, and i’ll probably move on with some fun YA.
