Aricka and Bobby reunited
(Aricka and Bobby/Trevor Wilson)
(After they play the Orpheum and Carrie saves Aricka, the Shaw twins are properly reunited.)
*Aricka S*
Phantom pain sensations ripple through Aricka’s middle as she looks up at her brother- her BROTHER- who had apparently ran from the Orpheum all the way to this studio- their studio, their home- on the off chance of seeing her one last time.
Carrie had got there seconds before her dad, throwing her arms around Aricka’s dying form and pleaded with her to stay, declaring that she loved Aricka even though they barely had any time to talk, and it was enough to save her. Aricka had glowed just as her band mates had, and the purple stamp of the HGC floated away just as Trevor had ran in.
Aricka remained on the floor, Carrie’s arms around her waist, as the rockstar knelt in front of his still 18 year old twin sister. “… Aricka?” He whispered.
Hot, salty tears filled Aricka’s eyes as she nods and bites her lip, holding up her left wrist to show off the red beaded bracelet she never took off, not for a moment. “Hi Buggy,” she whispered back.
The old nickname was enough for Trevor- for Bobby- to break down crying, and Aricka surged forward to hug him, wrapping her arms around her brother’s neck and running a hand through his hair like she had when they were littler.
“You died… you died before I could even say goodbye- I’m so sorry. I never forgot about you… I just- it hurt so much to talk about you… you were my twin and I lost a half of me when you died…” words came choked out through sobs and Aricka merely clung to her now-big brother.
“Shh… I’m here. I’m back and I think I’m human again. And I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon,” she soothes. “I’m back Buggy. I’m back…” she looks at Luke over Bobby’s shoulder, and sees the mixed look of anger, hurt and relief on his face. The lead singer and guitarist of Sunset Curve, now backup vocalist and lead guitarist of Julie and the Phantoms, walks over to them.
“Hi Trevor,” he says. The name caught Trevor’s attention and he looks up.
“Luke…” he breaths. “It’s actually- you’re not- I’m not dreaming-!?”
Luke stiffly shakes his head no, and shies away when Bobby tried to grab his hand. “No, it’s not a dream. I- I’m not-,” and then he strides away, but not before giving Aricka a “I’m not upset at you,” look.
Trevor sighs. “I have some explanations for you all. Please sit?” The phantoms; Julie and Carrie all claim a seat, save Luke who was glaring out the garage window. Aricka clings to her brother, who was reciprocating, and Carrie was leaning against her aunt and dad. “… I want to start by asking- how did this happen-? And why just now?”
They give Bobby the cliff notes version of their coming back, which had both himself and Carrie wide eyed and terrified by the end. Carrie latched onto Aricka in a shocking display of public affection. “We almost lost you twice and never would’ve known-,” she whispered. Aricka gripped Carrie’s hand tightly.
“I’m right here, Care-Bear. You’re gonna be stuck with me for a while- if you want that.”
“Okay that’s great and all, love the family reunion, but it doesn’t explain why you stole our music.” Alex was glaring at Trevor, his own twin echoing his look.
Bobby sighed. “It’s not what it sounds like… after you guys died I was a wreck- it took me six months to leave the house- and took eight months for me to want to sing again. I started recording the songs as a tribute for you all- not as a way to steal your music. You guys were my brothers and sisters and you suddenly died and I had to remember you- had to memorialize you somehow. But then I signed a bad contract and they said I couldn’t mention you guys or the fact that I was using your music ever again. I played along and bided by time until I had enough fame to break away from that recording studio. And all the royalties from that album go to charities I know you all would appreciate- Alex’s is to a LGBT+ group that advocates for teens in that community in foster care. Reggie’s is an animal shelter. Luke, yours goes to a music group that teaches teens in poverty how to make music. Sis, I found a musical theater that needed funds so I pour money into their campaign. And Aricka M, I found a dance studio that also teaches the importance of music and art for life lessons.”
The declaration got the young adults on the couch crying. Aricka M finally stood and threw herself in Bobby’s arms. Bobby welcomed the hug, squeezing her tightly and apologizing softly. “Baz…” she whispered, and he hugged her tighter.
“Ari,” he replied. “I never forgot about any of you. In fact- Care, why don’t you tell them your middle name?”
Carrie smiles softly, wetly. “My name is Carolyn Aricka Wilson.”
Everyone looks at Aricka Shaw, whose eyes widened and more tears fell as she embraced her niece once again. “You have my name-,” she whispered.
“Daddy never let me forget about the aunt I never knew,” she says. “That’s why I saw you. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you until you told me.”
Aricka stroked Carrie’s pink hair and the girl curls into her aunt. “I’ll never be upset at you for that, Care. I knew one day Bobby would be a great dad. And look at you- you’re strong and beautiful and so talented. I’m so proud of both of you.”
That was the tipping point for Carrie, and tears fell down the girl’s face. “I-I’m not brave…. I ran away from my best friends,” she says. Aricka looks at Julie; who inches closer to her former friend.
“Carrie… we never talked about why we stopped being friends,” she says. Julie and Carrie walked away to give the phantoms and Trevor some privacy to finish their conversation.
Reggie was the next one to walk over to the two Arickas’ and Trevor. “… You recorded My Name is Luke and Crooked Teeth- as tributes?”
Trevor nods. “You never had a chance to professionally record them. I just- had to do something. The world deserved to hear your songs.”
Alex walked over. “Our brothers- mine and Aricka’s- are they-?”
“Sean is a lawyer and Damien is a foster parent and owns a bar not far from the Orpheum,” Trevor says. “They created the Mercer Scholarship for kids who are musically inclined and want to pursue a music education in college.”
Finally Luke returned to Aricka S’s side. “… so you didn’t just steal our music for the money?”
Trevor gapes and protests, “NO-! It was never about the money for me. It was always about making sure you guys had the chance to be heard. I just wanted to keep you guys alive somehow- even if you weren’t physically there.”
That was all the boys needed to hear before crushing Bobby in a hug- Aricka M and Aricka S joining them. The same yellow glow that they felt when Julie hugged them filled them again and Aricka S sighed in relief.
She had her band back.
She had her brother back.
And she had Carrie back.
Maybe this second chance would give her an opportunity to be the aunt she never got to be.
And maybe, she thought, Reggie and I can finally open that music therapy camp we always wanted to.

Ok, so I finally watched the episode - (I slept in really late today, it was amazing) and learned how to do an under the cut - because this is going to be very long - I will not start with buddie, or how sweet exhausted Madney are, or how I feel bad for Albert who has the same grievances as Buck did while recuperating, or how I was happy to see more of Mrs. Lee.
I want to start by how completely shattered I was by watching Nia leave, I literally had to pause because I was crying like a baby and couldn’t bring myself to move on and change the mood.
I am happy that Nia’s mom is just a woman who had trouble to provide for herself and her baby, especially with the pandemic hitting around that time, and that Nia will be happy and safe with her mom, but I was absolutely heartbroken for Hen and Karen and even while I’m writing this I’m tearing up again.
I do love that while Karen managed to bring Hen around to foster kids again, I actually asked out loud “what about Denny?” - I love that they sat down with him and asked for his opinion, because this involves him too.
Which is btw, in complete parallel to Edmundo not asking or talking to Christopher about how he feels about him dating again, or bringing her to the house to crash movie nights - because it involves him too and we get no resolution on that particular end to this day.
I have to say that the side stories, while emotional in nature - the flashbacks of complete strangers felt unnecessary - and after pretty much crying my eyes out for Nia and the Wilsons, the side stories felt like a waste of time.
Watching Athena and May finally ‘have it out’ over May’s suicide attempt from S1 was so overdue, and I’m glad we got to see it. Athena’s overreaction and May’s lack of understanding where her mom is coming from was a stepping stone for Athena to have a talk with Bobby that allows her to forgive herself if only a little and for May to show growth on two fronts -
1. she gave a second chance to a high school bully. - High school is a breeding ground for bullies and victims, it’s only when we see the world through the eyes of an adult, especially through May’s who’s working in dispatch and having weekly therapy sessions - I love that she is being the bigger person here and allows that horrible girl - who may have changed into a better adult - another chance.
2. Working in dispatch also allows May to go back to the worst day of her mother’s life and hear just exactly what happened, and that allows a second kind of growth - she shows compassion and understanding towards Athena, she now knows what happened and how her steel made mom shattered to pieces because she thought she lost her daughter. - I love how May comes into the house and just hugs her mom and apologizes - the story was very well written.
Madney - was super adorable, my own sister recently had a second baby, brother to a 2yo toddler who’s new favorite word is ‘No’, so the exhausted parents sight was very familiar.
I love that both of them returned to work, personally I don’t know if I would have been able to leave so quickly after giving birth (here maternity leave is 3 months most mothers extend to 6 months or even a year.) but it’s good, in my eyes, that both parents got to get back to normal life, breath some air outside crying, feeding and diaper changes.
Also important to remember - it really does take a village, and I’m glad they showed it here too. I absolutely adore Mrs. Lee, she’s a sweetheart. I found it so funny when Chimney, in his exhausted state said “strangers” and seconds later realized he insulted his adopting mother, I really laughed a lot.
I also love that Albert moved in with the Lee’s, he will finally have a place where he will not feel guilty about lying and resting while the rest of the house members deal with a newborn baby on top of everything. I hope his return to normal will be easier than Buck’s. On the plus side he’s not working yet so no one can tell him no. ;)
Buddie had me breathing new life this episode, the “she looks like Buck when he’s gassy” (like dude why do you know that?), the “I’ll take it as a complement” retort and Eddie’s fond smile response.
Eddie looking to Buck with the saw with a confident look, to get the lady who was unfortunately pinned to the donkey off with the door. I have to point out that Eddie’s uncertain, sympathetic, I know how you feel look, when the lady talked about no matter what she does it’s wrong - giving me all the signs I need to know that things with Christopher are not ok. and exactly as the fics tell it, Chris is not happy with his dad’s life’s choices right now and it bleeds into everyday life stuff too.
The quarter life crisis- I loved that call!! - Buck says it’s a real thing from experience - God knows we all saw it (also I may have had it myself 😂) and Eddie (or was it Ryan?) laughing again with that fond look of his when it involves Buck.
And the best part - can’t you both be good cop? - Buck and Eddie’s simultaneous “NO” was so Awesome!! I watched it again and again and again and laughed a lot. But what stood out the most it that no one retorts that Buck is not a parent, or ask how he could possibly know that, there was only slightly confused look from Chimney, who looked thoughtful 0.01s later and a Bobby knows look, Hen doesn’t even dignifies these moments with a response anymore because she definitely knows!
Also loved Eddie flirting with Buck a moment later saying “curious to see what your definition of too much discipline is.” - Yes my loves that is very much flirting, there will be no discussion here. - I love that Buck’s response is a smile and a tilt of the head to the side, you can see Buck’s expression even under the mask.
It wasn’t a lot of buddie, but the scenes themselves were huge, in my eyes buddie is alive and well and if you can’t see it, I advise you to go to station 19, check out the brother connection between Miller and Gibson, or Strike Back’s Scott and Stonebridge, or Teen Wolf Scott and Stiles then compare it to Eddie and Buck’s, and only after you’ve done that come back and tell us we’re seeing things 🙃
I would have addressed that poor excuse for a scene (1-2 seconds was it?) between Edmundo and she who I refuse to name (rebounds are usually forgotten very quickly, I already forgot her 😈) but the only 3 things worth mentioning is that:
1. That scene in the promo where she cuddles up to him and looks happy? They cut it in editing.
2. Christopher interrupts them, as always. She allows him to join them even though it’s a school night and she didn’t even look at Eddie before she did.
And last but not least - The amazing Christopher in being seated, By Eddie, between them. - Also he (Eddie) does not look happy about it, he’s fond with Christopher, but looks confused as hell by her allowing it without asking Eddie.
Now Buck - Buck would have looked to Eddie, and should the answer would have been no, he would have bargained, as we know he does when he babysat last time, and Buck would have gotten Christopher back to bed. - Just saying.
Overall it was a good episode, I liked most of it, kind of reminded me of S1 energy, it felt good. (you know, except for the obvious)

cardigan / p.p
pairing: peter parker x stark!reader
summary: “you thought i was dead?” after you go missing with no leads to what happened, you are presumed dead and peter writes letters addressed to you, to help with his grief
word count: 3k
requested: no
warnings: semi character death, heartbreaking angst :( , fluff
a/n: this is for @ariistotles lovely writing challenge! i am using prompt 9 for my fic and i hope you guys enjoy!

two days. forty-eight hours. two thousand eighty minutes. one hundred seventy-two thousand, eight hundred seconds. that’s how long you had been missing. the team of avengers, including desperate peter parker sat around a table, staring at the very little evidence they had of your disappearance. it was only two nights ago when you and peter had been cuddled in bed and you had left to go home.
evidently, you never returned home.
peter ran his hands through his hair with frustration, eyes bloodshot red from crying. he was terrified and guilty, knowing if he had just walked you home, he wouldn’t be staring at the picture of you on the screen in front of him.
“we have no leads,” sam wilson stated,” the only evidence is this cardigan.”
peter knew you were wearing it when you left. he recognized the cute patches of stars scattered on the knitted sleeves and the oversized buttons along the ends. it was always so big on you, he didn’t think you would have bought it from that thrift store, but the moment you laid eyes on it, you fell in love with it. you had fixed up the holes and messed up seams, it looked like something someone would shove under a bed. but you took it into your care.
“she was wearing that after she left my apartment,” peter explained, voice cracking. the entire time he had been silent as they investigated your disappearance. “she almost forgot it but i reminded her.”
peter took a glance at the cardigan, instantly taking notice of the blood-stained sleeves.
“we have to find her,” he finally added, one tear slipping down his cheek. tony hadn’t spoken at all, and peter knew why. peter understood what it felt like to lose someone. there was a chance you’d be found again, but it was slim. you were just gone.
the next few days were hell for peter. they hadn’t found anything and all he wanted to believe was that you were at least alive. everyone around him seemed to be giving up already. peter had even overheard tony talking with the other avengers, thinking that you weren’t alive and he’d have to plan a funeral. peter refused to give up, he couldn’t believe the idea that you were dead. there was only a glimmer of hope left in some of the avengers. every day that passed, the more likely it was that you were dead. it wasn’t until two months of searching, they finally gave in.
tony kept the funeral private. it took everything in peter to just crawl out of bed that early morning and may had to help him tie the tie for his suit. his hands trembled too much to get it straight. he didn’t want to believe you were gone, but by this point, he was giving up himself. everything at the funeral was dark, the opposite of what you were like. you always had the brightest of smiles, your hair would always smell like fresh daisies from a meadow. everyone who gathered around was silent, staring at an empty casket, watching it get lowered into the ground.
peter found himself alone after the casket was six feet under and collapsed to his knees in front of the gravestone. tears openly fell down his face, as he stared at the name written on the stone. y/n stark. he wanted to stop making events like this so familiar. first his parents, then uncle ben. now you. the love of his life, the person he dreamed of marrying. some people see this as an unattainable fantasy because when you are young, they assume you know nothing. but peter was sure. you were supposed to be the one. his endgame. but you were gone.
a hand tapped his shoulder revealing the familiar face of tony stark. seeing him made peter fall apart as tony pulled him into a tight embrace. peter finally let it all out. with his shoulders shaking with sobs and soft cries leaving his breathless lips, peter parker was finally showing his grief.
grief was a fickle thing. it constantly changed. peter had been in such disbelief for the past months you were gone, but now he was trying to bargain with what happened. he gave his suit back to tony, he moved on from being spider-man, and tried living normally. he was trying to change himself for you. but it was hard. it took every amount of effort to bring himself out of his bedroom. the only thing that kept him going was the desire to do things you would want him to do. it didn’t take long for aunt may to take peter to a therapist. they could help him sort out the pain he was holding onto.
“tell me about her.”
“y/n was the perfect example of joy,” peter admitted with a desolate tone. “she was always looking to help anyone before herself. something she got from her dad. her hair always smelled amazing, like a garden almost. she liked to braid it, and stick flowers in it. y/n got the idea from tangled…” he paused, staring at the ground. he had planned a date before you went missing. he was going to take you to a lantern festival. where you could recreate the scene from tangled. peter knew how happy it would have made you. but you were gone. you’d never see the lanterns, you’d never live that dream.
“she had a cardigan… something she found at a thrift store, on the ground without a price tag. it had holes in the sleeves and she chose to patch them up with little stars. it was always too big on her, y/n always wore it with everything. i never saw her without it. she once forgot it when we left for a road trip, made me turn around to go get it for her but i was happy to,” a rare smile came onto peter’s face as he thought about the dimples on your cheek when he had put the cardigan around you. the smile faded,” it was the only thing they found when she went missing. it had blood on it and i know something bad happened.”
“i couldn’t stop it. i couldn’t save her.”
the woman in the chair across from him said nothing, just stared at peter as he avoided her gaze. after a couple moments, she began speaking,” you need to figure out a way to say goodbye to y/n. i understand how hard that may seem, but there are ways. i want you to write letters addressed to her. just start with something normal, you don’t have to address her death in the letter, just make it between you and her. the more you write these. the easier it’ll get to let go. “
peter stared at a blank piece of paper for hours that night. he didn’t know how to start. every time he picked up the pen his hand started shaking and he was too scared to write your name. with a frustrated groan, he jumped onto his bed, face buried in his hands. normally, peter would go to you to talk out his stress, to feel your arms around him but he couldn’t have that now.
that’s when he took notice of your cardigan hung on the corner of his bed frame. he took it into his hands, letting out a sigh. it was the only thing he had left out you. the only part of you that was left behind. so peter put it around himself, pulling his arms into the sleeves. it felt like you had your arms around him again and gave him the boost he had been looking for.
so he wrote:
my love y/n,
i don’t want to talk about you being gone yet, just let me have this moment to tell you the things i didn’t say. you were perfect. you are still perfect. i know that sees unbelievable to you, but every moment i shared with you, i cherished like a child would cherish a new toy.
except i never grew tired of you. you always came with new surprises. whether it was the time i thought you had never watched star wars and you admitted to being one of the biggest star wars nerds there is or the time i caught you crying to rom coms when we were friends, wishing you had that kind of romance. you were a hopeless romantic. mj said you were always looking for a disney prince of your own. i hope i was good enough to earn that title. i hope i gave you your dream love story. because every moment i spent with you was something exhilarating and i ever wanted to pass it up.
i just hope i was enough for you.
peter knew the letter was short, but he couldn’t bear to finish. tears marked the page with scratched out words and messy handwriting. he was supposed to write a letter every day. every day until he was able to say one word. goodbye.
slowly he started getting there. very slowly.
every day he wrote a new letter. they consistently got longer, but there were days it got short. he tried his best to avoid talking about you being gone. sometimes the letters were simple, saying i went to the grocery store for the first time in awhile. i saw your favorite snack and ended up buying it. i never liked it until now. i guess you influenced me so much.
there were harder days though. these days the paper would be stained with tears and may would come into his room and would find him crying. those letters always had the words “i miss you” and questioned why you had to go so soon.
there was only one thing he always did when he was writing these letters. he was always wearing your cardigan. he even began wearing it just around the house or to school. may never failed to notice and would wash it for him to wear the next day when peter forgot. having the cardigan around him made him feel comfortable and safe. almost like you were right with him. he even wore it to his second visit with the therapist, four months after your disappearance
“it’s getting easier to write the letters,” the brunette boy admitted, fiddling with the ends of the sleeves. “i’ve wrote so many already. it’s almost like i can still talk to her, even when she’s gone.”
the woman smiled. “that’s good peter.”
“but remember, the goal isn’t to hold on, you have to let go. you have to say goodbye.”
peter hated the sound of it. he couldn’t imagine a life without you in it, he couldn’t imagine moving on from you because every day he still missed you more than anything.
it took another six months for him to finally write a final letter. ten months after you had disappeared.
my love, y/n,
this isn’t an easy one to write. these past few months have been hell but i’ve rolled with the punches. i just left flowers at your gravestone. chrysanthemums, your favorites. it’s always been hard seeing your name on that stone and not seeing you next to me.
i miss every inch of you, y/n. i miss the feeling of your lips on mine and the tender kisses you’d press on my neck. i miss watching you fall asleep, i miss running my hand over your back while you snored. i miss seeing your beautiful face, the one that never failed to make me smile. every time i see a star wars movie come on, i’m reminded of your constant rants about padmé and anakin’s romance and how badass all the women of star wars are. i even still think about the day i met you. we were just kids, and you pushed over some other little kids for me. i think that was the day i knew you were important. it only just now dawned on me.
and the best part about you was when i felt like an old cardigan, under someone’s bed, you put me on and said i was your favorite. just like the one you used to always wear.
but i think the one thing i miss the most is just your voice. you always talked me to sleep on rough nights. it’s the same voice that got me through the trials of being a hero, the one that comforted me after hard patrols and nightmares. it was the one that sang ‘i can see the light’ from the lantern scene from tangled everytime we watched it. it’s the one i miss the most and i’d do anything to hear it again, y/n.
but for now, it’s your turn to listen to me. and listen closely. i love you. you were my soulmate and i still think you are. i loved you then. i love you now. and i’ll love you forever. we’ll see each other again, because you always come back to me. you’re my angel. my love. my dream. my soulmate. my darling. the love of my life. we’re meant to be together. i know one day we’ll find each other. and when we do… i’ll never let go of you again.
y/n stark, just do me a favor. keep on being you. wherever you are. i’ll keep on being me. i’ll carry on for you.
so now i just have to say one more word. one more word that isn’t forever because i know i’ll be with you. you’ll come back to me. i’ll come back to you. because loving you is like being drunk under a streetlight. it’s the thrill of living life and some kind of light near you. even without the light being right beside you. being in love with you is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
so here it is, y/n. here it is.
goodb-
peter was interrupted as he wrote, a hard knock from the door of the apartment. for a second, he waited, but it came again. it sounded urgent by how heavy it was and how frantically the person was knocking. he stumbled out of the chair, leaving the open letter on his desk as he fumbled with the lock. once it opened, peter had begun thinking he was dreaming.
because the person standing in front of the door, was you.
with his jaw slacking, peter rubbed his eyes trying to process what was in front of him. and to think he was about to write the word goodbye, and here you were, back from the dead. his eyes watered slightly as he opened his mouth to speak but no words came. he couldn’t comprehend the fact you were alive. “ y/n… no… how? how are you here? you were dead… this can’t be real.” everything hit him like an oncoming train, he was convinced he was dreaming or hallucinating. was this a test? was this testing him to see if he was actually prepared to say goodbye?
“you thought i was dead?”
this was what brought peter back to reality. he fell to his knees so fast in front of you, the tears falling down without a doubt as sobs left his thin lips, the ones you used to kiss. everything from the past few months came pouring out. “you were dead. everyone gave up and i didn’t want to but i did. i gave up, i failed you. i did the one thing you told me not to do because i was weak. and i couldn’t hold myself together at your funeral…” you knelt down as he sobbed and choked out every word, pulling him to your chest. “i wanted you to be the one to help me, but you weren’t there. you weren’t here to hug me before and i tried holding on for you. i tried and i thought i was never going to get over it and move on and i never did. i never did, y/n ,because i love you and you are the only person who will be constant in my life even if you were to fall out of love.”
“and i wrote you letters. i wrote you so many letters. i was writing one… just before you came… it was the last one, y/n, the one where i was going to say goodbye and now here you are,” peter’s arms wrapped around your waist pulling you closer.
“you don’t have to say goodbye anymore, pete,” you whispered, pressing a kiss to the side of his head before he finally got a clear look at you. you looked no different than before. you had a a few bruises here and there, but you were alive. peter couldn’t believe just how much time passed and you were still the embodiment of beauty in his eyes.
a smile formed on his face, a dimple showing on his cheek,”i knew you’d come back to me.”
with that, he pressed his lips against yours, a hand moving up to cup your cheek as yours moved to his hair, running your hands through the messy brown curls. your lips were soft, just like they used to be and they tasted just like your favorite cherry chapstick that you used to always use. peter relished in the tender moment, butterflies coming alive in his stomach as he pressed his other hand on the small of your back. you both pulled away gently, eyes still closed with foreheads resting against each other.
“i love you,” you said gently, pressing a kiss to the tip of peter’s nose.
he returned it with his own, murmuring,” i love you more.”
his heart fluttered in the comfortable silence and the air still held the same amount of love and adoration for each other as it did before. peter never wanted to give it up and he never wanted to let it go. with the cardigan still wrapped around his shoulders and your arms around him, for the first time in months, peter finally remembered how it feels to be secure and safe.
you both finally stood up, fingers interlocked and right before you both headed inside, you glanced at peter and asked with a laugh:
“is that my cardigan?”

Harmonies (JATP fanfic) Part 2
{1st chapter.} {Wattpad link.}
Summary: Julie and the Phantoms get a proposal that’s huge. In the meantime, Julie has to deal with Carlos knowing about the boys.
Word count: 1936
Chapter 2, Brand New
Flynn approached Julie in the hallway, the girl had a huge smile and was letting no one forget Julie and the Phantoms had played the Orpheum. It had been a couple nights, people still congratulated her when they saw her and whispered big things were coming their way. Julie wasn’t sure of anything, she was far more concerned about the boys now, she didn’t know if Caleb was coming back, the boys had no idea what their unfinished business could be and deep down, she was sure she didn’t want to say goodbye to them. Not now, not after she started playing again, after she enjoyed herself on stage and had a great time. Not now that she felt genuinely happy.
“Let me guess, you were lost into smiley land and that’s why you weren’t picking up your phone last night.”
“Luke and I were writing a song and after that I had dinner and went straight to bed. I saw your message first thing.”
“Uuuh, so we’re gonna have new music.” Flynn said, excited. Julie hated to disappoint her in that moment.
“I don’t think we will be singing this one… it’s quite personal for both of us.”
Flynn shook her head, and leaning on the lockers, looked at Julie. “Oh boy, no way of saving you from this one, is there? Writing love songs pretty much seals your fate.” She got close for an inch and made sure no one else heard. “What about Nick and the flowers?”
“He knows I like someone else, the flowers were just because he enjoyed the show. As long as he can’t tell is Luke who I like, then it’s alright.”
“Oh girl, we’re past from that, everyone can tell it’s him. Actually, you’re so lucky people can only see him when you’re singing because otherwise you’d be selling yourselves over.” She shrugged. “I’m still so surprised you’ve got no problem sharing those looks while your dad’s on the audience.”
Julie fell in complete silence and felt how her heart was in panic. She forgot about the rest of the world when that happened, no question why her father wanted to meet the boys. No wonder why he spent the weekend asking for the boy with the guitar. She was thankful none of the boys were around while that conversation happened. It’s safe to say it was uncomfortable, but Julie hadn’t thought of the fact that maybe everyone could see the same she saw.
“Maybe we do have to tone it down a little, huh?” Out the corner of her eye, Julie thought she was hallucinating.
Carrie walked towards them, for the first time she was all alone, displaying a smile on her face. A smile directed at them? Maybe that was the day of reckoning and everyone needed to get their apocalypse gear out, right? There was no other explanation.
“Julie! Right the person I was looking for.” She looked at Carrie with furrowed eyebrows and pointed at herself with a twitch of her lip. Since when that was a thing that happened? “Yes you, my father is putting up a show, we saw you the other night at the Orpheum, and he wanted to invite you and your Phantoms to perform. Dirty Candy is gonna be there, too.”
“Oh, that’s…” she was at a loss for words. “That’s very kind of your dad. I…”
“You’re gonna think about it?”
“Sure thing, I’ll let you know.” Carrie walked away and Flynn turned towards Julie with enough of a surprised expression to last for a day. “What just happened?”
“You tell me! Since when is Carrie… nice?”
But that was not what Julie had in mind. What she thought about was Carrie’s dad being in the audience of the Orpheum. Trevor, Trevor Wilson, the guy she thought introduced her to rock. The guy who used Sunset Curve’s songs, Luke’s lyrics, was at the audience of the Orpheum. He saw them perform and what if… what if he recognized the boys? There was no way he didn’t recognize his old bandmates.
“We may have a bigger problem than Carrie being nice!”
A quiet sound of guitar riffs came from the studio. Julie opened the door to see Alex at the drums, Reggie standing beside him tuning in his bass and Luke, playing chords on his guitar while he lay on the couch. She thought during the entire day how to break the news to them, coming to the conclusion there wasn’t really a good way of doing so. The boys would freak out the moment she opened her mouth.
“Hey, guys… so, I kinda have good and not so good news.”
“Let me guess, let me guess!” Reggie said. “You were bringing us pizza but then you remembered we can’t eat.”
Julie chuckled and shook her head. “Not exactly. The good news is we have a gig opportunity…”
Luke didn’t let her finish. He jumped on his feet and walked to her. “That’s amazing news, we’re so ready for it. When is it?” A happiness she hated to let down.
“Let me give you the complete information first…” she held up a finger towards Luke. He stared down at her signalling for her to continue. “Carrie’s dad was at the show at Orpheum, seems like he liked our music so he’s inviting us to a show he’s throwing.”
“You mean BOBBY?” Luke blurted out, as if Julie had managed to insult him deep. She nodded. Luke turned towards the boys and shook his head. “No way, we’re not going.”
“I don’t know, it could be a great opportunity…” Alex threw, shrugging.
“He stole our songs and never gave us any credit. Why would we perform at a show with him?” Luke gestured with his hands, letting down his guitar. Julie had learnt to recognize pretty fast when he was upset, physically he was impossible not to read.
“That’s not the bad news, though.” She said, calling for Luke’s attention. Maybe making him pay attention would help. “He’s the only person from your past that saw you and what if he recognized you, guys? What if he has something to say and this is a great moment to say something.”
“We can totally try and talk to him.” Reggie suggested.
“Exactly how, genius? The only person who can see us is Julie.” Luke let out, dropping his weight on the couch. “It’s not like we can call him out while we’re performing.”
“No but if the moment presents itself, I can totally vouch for you,” she said. “Carrie and I used to be friends, her dad knows me, he’ll… he’ll listen.”
Alex put down his drumsticks. “I say we go, we need some answers.”
“I’m with Alex, we can’t really hold onto anger forever.” Reggie said with a side smile and a shrug. “What do you say, Luke?”
He didn’t say a thing. A frown took over his whole expression. It only softened when Julie shifted his way; she tried to convince him with a gesture, a silent talk between them begging him please to consider it. The boys were angry at Bobby, they had enough reasons to be, but they still had to let go so they could keep moving forward, it was the best they could do. Luke finally gave in and nodded to Julie. She smiled and was about to approach him when she heard Carlos’ voice from behind.
“So… how are the guys doing?”
“Huh?” She turned around. Her brother was leaning against the door, looking past Julie. “What guys?”
“The ones you were talking with.”
“I… I wasn’t talking with anyone,” she played dumb. “There’s no one else in here.”
“I figured you were gonna say that but,” the boy said, taking out from his pocket a picture taken straight out of Sunset Curve’s demo album. Julie looked at it and let out a deep breath. Busted, totally busted. “Don’t they look familiar?”
“You gotta give it to him, he’s thorough in his research,” Reggie let out, the boys giving him a look. “What? He is.”
Luke stood up and walked next to Julie. “He’s not gonna tell anyone, is he?”
Julie looked up at him and shrugged. Her brother wasn’t nosey and he always tried to help her so she trusted him to keep it all in. “We can keep this a secret, right? No telling dad.”
Carlos took a hand to his chin and made a thoughtful grin. “We can but you’re gonna have to answer some ghostly doubts first.”
After giving Carlos the 101 guide on how to deal with ghosts, exchange that ended on him disappointed of not actually being able to interact with the boys, Julie went out searching for Luke; who had vanished from the studio and hadn’t come back for more than an hour. She wanted to make sure he wasn’t changing his mind, or freaking out about it. It was enough of a sensitive topic for him, Bobby stole his lyrics after all and music for Luke was the biggest expression of his soul. Knowing someone else, a friend, had taken his lyrics and sang them as their own and never even remembered his name while doing so was hurtful.
Bouncing a basketball and throwing it to the ring for it to bounce back and start again, she found him. Focused on his movements as if he were playing guitar, he bounced the ball once again before seeing her and stopping it mid-air.
“Hey!” He said, eyes glued on her, something Julie wasn’t sure how to take in. his eyes were always so full of the world. “Everything’s alright with your brother?”
“Yeah, he’s… he’s only bummed he can’t actually talk and hang out with ghosts but he won’t tell.” She played with her hands in her pockets and finally decided to speak. “How are you, though? I know the idea of doing this is big, playing in a show for Bobby after all that happened…”
“It’s…” he shrugged. “Ever since I found out he stole our songs I’ve been really angry and I know, I know we gotta let go of the past but there are some things that just linger. I mean, I like our music now more than ever, singing with you is the best… it’s just that…”
“He stole a part of you.”
Luke nodded. “But I’m on board with the boys; the best for us is to move on. Focus on here, what we have is pretty great…” he said, closing in the space between them. His bright eyes changed it all for her, every time, and now they were so sincere. Julie couldn’t emphasize enough how she loved playing with the boys, how much happier she felt since they showed up, how grateful she was with her mom for sending them her way. She needed them as much as they needed her. And now knowing how all Luke made her feel was too good, with its own stones to stumble in but good. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” Neither would she.
Luke offered his hand, intertwining her fingers with his she took him, closing in the rest of the space between them. Forehead to forehead, she closed her eyes as she let the feeling spread through her body. The gleefulness of being able to connect with him that way was homely, like landing on a safe place and being held by the right arms. Not even a thought of the impossibilities of their relationship could break how she managed to feel in that moment. Infinite, full of peace. Brand new.

Hello! i don’t think i’ve given you any of my weird headcanons in a hot minute so here’s a new favorite! Steve with ADHD, at first nobody notices it, he gets along well enough as a young kid people just think he has an active imagination, when in real it y he just can’t pay attention. He’s in 5th grade when his teacher pulls him out of class and tells him he needs to start paying attention, Steve almost starts crying as he tries to explain to her that he just can’t, that it doesn’t work (pt.1)
(pt.2) so the teacher tells him to stay back after class that day, he totally forgets and almost ends up leaving just further probing her suspicions. She asks him to extol in what he means, he doesn’t know what to say, says that too many things are happening for him to pay attention in class, and that sometimes if he hears another teacher he’ll end up listening to that, or if he can look out a window he’ll get distracted, and she already knows what’s going on, calls his parents for a meeting
(pt.3) So his mom comes in, his dad “could make it” but that works out for steve because his mom actually gets him tested, and his test comes back positive so he has to take meds now and sure his grades aren’t the best but they are so much better and he can actually sit in class and focus, but randomly in his sophomore year tommy finds the pills and makes fun of him and he gets so embarrassed that he just stops taking them, and his grades drop bad and he can’t focus and he feels like shit
(pt.4) he goes around like that for a while feeling lost and distracted but refusing to take his meds and be lame, he only starts taking them again after nancy breaks up with him because he needs to focus on something that isn’t the break up, but they aren’t working well which is to be expected he hasn’t taken them in more then a year, so he ends up totally freaking out and that’s how billy finds him, sitting on the bathroom floor with the WORST headache he’s ever had and he takes pity on him
(pt.5) billy and steve were kind of friends after the fight they had talked and worked things out, not super close but enough to not be so weird around each other anymore, so billy takes him home and makes sure he gets new meds and makes sure he keeps taking them and on days when he can tell steve is space and distracted and clearly forgot he’ll drive to his house and make him take them, and steve will bitch and moan but he actually loves that someone cares enough to make sure he’s ok
(optional pt.6) billy realizing he really likes steve when steve is talking about a special interest and getting super happy and he just can’t help but feel in love with him (is this totally based off my expletive with adhd? yes it is! is this the exact way my hug said she realized she love me? yes it is 🥰)
Hi! I have another one of your AMAZING headcanons in my drafts still, I’m working on it I’m sorry I’m the slowest writer ever.
So, I think I’ve said this, but ADHD makes A LOT of sense for Steve. I don’t have ADHD, so I’m sorry if this is in accurate, I did some research, didn’t want this to be like, bad.
Also, I put him on Ritalin for timing purposes and bc it can cause panic attacks. 🤷♀️ and his favorite animals are giraffes, goats and lobsters, 3 of my favorite animals.
Read on ao3
When Steve was little, he could never focus on something for longer than ten minutes.
He would be running through the house, leaving toys on the ground when he remembered a game he could play in another room. His nannies would roll their eyes, picking up after him.
When he got to school, it was more of the same. He would get distracted by every bird that he could see outside. He would be in the middle of class, the teacher would say something about giraffes and his mind would race about animals, would think about every country in Africa he could name, would think about whether or not Lithuania was in Africa.
His grades would slip, tests were a nightmare when he got caught up watching a bee buzzing near the window, only to realize he had answered three questions and only had eleven minutes left.
He was always a poor student, until fifth grade.
Mrs. Wilson had called him up after class, had noticed him zoning out and was about to chide him when she noticed the tears in his eyes.
“I just, I don’t know what happens, sometimes, my thoughts go too fast for my own brain and I can’t focus.” He was sniffling across from her.
“Steve, I’m going to have a chat with your parents. You’re not in trouble, but I think we can help you.” She smiled as she pat his shoulder, letting himself get collected before going to his next class.
She called his parents in at the end of the day, his mother sitting in the seat next to Steve, the principal joining them.
“I’ve noticed some trends in Steve’s school work and his presence in class. We think it may be in his best interest to test him for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. We feel that pinpointing the problem for him may be more helpful moving forward.
Mrs. Harrington agreed, waved her hand in a way that said she was bored of the conversation. Steve spent the whole next Saturday going through various tests, was wrung dry by the end of the day, but left with a clear diagnosis.
He began taking a low does of Ritalin, began focusing in class. His grades skyrocketed, getting the very first B+ he had ever gotten on his English essay.
He was okay until sophomore year.
He was an okay student, could focus in class, but not necessarily retain or understand the information.
But then Tommy found the pills, had laughed at him and called him retarded, the word that had haunted him his whole life, spat at him by the father that didn’t care about him.
So he flushed the pills, never refilled his prescription.
His grades slipped immediately. He wasn’t able to focus in class, had gone back to the days of staring out the window and getting confused about why it was called a square root.
He was constantly moving, would bounce his leg, would tap his pencil, would sometimes take the hall pass and just walk.
He knows taking his meds would fix the problem, but he had Nancy know, didn’t want her to know this weakness of his, this shameful secret.
But then he didn’t have Nancy, and his thoughts were racing, jumping from Nancy to demodog to Barb to Billy to his dad to Nancy to demodog to Barb to Billy to his dad to Nancy to-
He broke down February of senior year.
Graduation was soon as Steve’s grades were ass. He needed to focus on something that wasn’t Nancy, demodog, Barb, Billy, his dad. So he filled his old prescription, took the same does he had two years ago and went to school.
When he was first put on the meds, he was told panic attacks and anxiety could be a side effect. He had never experienced that before, but now, now he lived in constant anxiety, and with his Ritalin, he was a mess.
He had locked himself in the bathroom above the gym, the one nobody uses. He was on the floor, trying to ground himself against the wall, trying to think of anything other than Nancy, demodog, Barb, Billy, his dad, Nancy, demodog, Barb, Billy, his dad, Nancy, demodog, demodog, demodog, demodog-
“Pretty Boy?”
Billy was in front of him, eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Steve.
“B-Billy?”
“You okay? You’re kinda, kinda losin’ it.”
“I, I went off my meds for a, a few years, and I put myself back on them, and it’s, I, I know it’s lame, but they usually help and now-” he sobbed as Billy pulled him into his chest, soothing him softly.
“What meds?”
“Ritalin. It’s for, for ADHD.” Billy huffed a laugh.
“I fuckin’ knew it. The way you talk a mile a damn minute.” Steve’s heart sank. “And it’s not lame. Some peoples’ brains are just, wired different.”
Steve was starting to calm down, the anxiety shoving over into a raging headache. He groaned into Billy’s shoulder.
“What’s up?”
“Head hurts.”
“Want me to take you home.” Steve just nodded, his eyes squeezed shut. Billy drove him home, sat with him while Steve called his doctor, made an appointment for next weekend.
Steve had gotten a new medication, adjusted to his current state. The new meds were like magic, allowing Steve to focus when he needed, wouldn’t let him fall into hyperfocus on something that wasn’t productive. He finished senior year on a good note, with okay-enough grades to score his diploma.
He spent the summer at Scoops, working alongside Robin.
Billy came in every day. Would sit with him on Steve’s break. On the days Steve seemed more spaced, he would marrow his eyes, would say you didn’t take your meds today, would drive to Steve’s house to get them for him, would make sure he took them, would take drinks out of Steve’s hands at parties, would make sure he wouldn’t do anything to interfere with them, would dread the days he would find Steve nauseous from the meds.
Bonus:
Steve realized he was in love with Billy when he found out Billy starting keeping a small store of Steve’s meds in his car, would update them periodically to make sure they were safe, effective.
Billy realized he was in love with Steve when he was talking about every animal he could name. He showed Billy the small library of books he had bought for himself about animals, could explain the difference between kingdom, class, phylum, and genus. Was throwing out Latin names for his favorite animals, giraffa camelopardalis, capra aegagrus hircus, nephropidae. Billy couldn’t help himself, had just leaned over and kissed him, left Steve giggling as they made out.

But it’s snowing
Steve Rogers x F!Reader
Summary: Because the Tower can’t stay unsupervised during Christmas you are forced to stay and miss the family reunion. Byt not everything so bad after all.
Warnings: A bit (really just tiny bit) of angst, fluff.
A/N: And here comes my last (I hope) late challenge. This one is for one and only @justkending. Congratulations on your milestone! <3 You deserved that!
You loved winter. You remember always playing with your parents and brothers whenever it started to snow. You were all wearing tons of sweaters, the warmest gloves and spent hours outside, tossing snow at each other or making snowmen. After hours, when you were literally shaking out of cold, you would come back to the warm house met with your mom waiting for all of yous with hot chocolate and some cookies.
You just finished talking to your parents, apologising them for not coming for Christmas this year. Well… not like bad guys decided to behave, only because you’d like to eat some of that delicious turkey your dad always made.
You sighed and leaned down, shoving your head in your arms, with the solemn idea of all the food you will miss. You loved your job to bits. Catching the bad guys alongside some superhero handsome faces (and beautiful ones as well) was one of the coolest jobs. But at moments like that, you hated your job. You haven’t seen your family for a whole year and you were looking forward to this year’s holidays. You bought all the presents, which were now sitting in the corner of your room, laughing at you.
“You’re ok?” You looked up to meet the concerned look on your Captains face. You frowned and pouted and turned around, your back to him. You knew you were being childish, but he deserved it. He was the one who made you stay here in the Tower, while everyone else except the holy trinity of menace - him, Sam and Bucky - and you stayed in the damn Tower.
“We’re gonna need you. Not even Bucky can shoot like you.” You should feel proud when he said that, but all you felt was disappointment for not being able to spend that time with your family.
“Come one, sweetheart, is this how its gonna be now?” He finally asked, walking into your room and closing the doors. Something you should have done before. You still kept your back to him and huffed, to underline how mad you are at him. “You know if I could I wouldn’t keep you. But you know the rules... We work in four people teams and you work perfectly with us… If someone attacks the Tower we will be able to work perfectly together…” You could hear the pain and sorry in his voice and you were so close to turn around and tell him it was ok. But no… You will be strong! “We were thinking…”
“Oh no…” You mumbled, making him chuckle. It was never good when the three of them were making a plan. It was even worse when they all agreed on something. Bucky and Sam agreeing was not a good sign. Hell no. “Should I be scared?” He smiled, happy for you to finally talk to him.
“We know how much you love Christmas and how much you hate it that you can’t spend it with your family…”
“I wonder whose fault that is!” He sighed and bit his lip, trying not to roll his eyes. He hated when you were acting like a kid. You were definitely spending too much time with Tony and Clint.
“How about we make our special little Christmas?” You turned around, definitely surprised to hear that. “We have already ordered food, so if you agree we can start the preparations tomorrow… I mean if you don’t want to, we…” But he didn’t finish when you jumped and hugged him, smiling like a little girl. It didn’t take Steve long to circle his arm around your waist, pulling you to him. Those parts were his favourite in this friendship between the two of you. You gave the best hugs. “Does that mean I’m forgiven?”
“Only if you help me sending those gifts to my family.” He smiled and nodded, happy to see you smile again.
**
“I think I know how to stir a damn sauce, Wilson!” Bucky growled, already annoyed with Sam’s complaining.
“Well, apparently no… If you stir too fast…”
“Sam, Bucky…” You exhaled, giving them the most disappointed look. “I put you two on different things, for this not to happen. Bucky, you’re doing great. Sam stop being a whiny bitch!” You grinned at him when he sends you one of his evil looks.
“I’m not sure that’s a language suitable for a lady”, Steve whispered at you, helping you to shove vegetables into turkey’s ass.
“Well, good thing I ain’t a lady then, Rogers”, you winked at him and he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Ok, close him up and he’s ready for tomorrow!” You exclaimed happily, taking a bite of the carrot from what was left of the turkey’s filling. “We have mashed potatoes, turkey, two extra types of meat, three sauces, a lovely apple pie made by one and only Sam Wilson”, he bowed making you laugh. “Oh and salmon as well.” You jumped excitedly.
Steve couldn’t help but smile warmly at your behaviour. On the field or the training mat you were forceful, merciless, the best sniper he met, and he worked with Bucky a lot. You didn’t blink twice to kill whoever would frighten your friends. And here you were. Acting like a complete kid. It has always been like that. When the mission finished you changed completely. You were this happy talkative, charming and flirting, beautiful woman. Yes. Flirting. He tried not to. But he noticed how your little flirting was a bit more than little with him. Started from talks, smiles and looks, and ended up in touches. He would lie to himself if he said he didn’t like it. He did. Very much indeed.
“Stevie?” Oh, this little nickname you gave him. It was always filled with love. Softness and something he never heard from anyone else before. Oh, how he loved hearing it from you. “Are you back?”
“Back?” He frowned, just now realising that everyone except you and him left the kitchen.
“You went somewhere. In your head, sweety. I called you a couple of times,” You chuckled seeing his confused look. “Never mind. I’m off to bed. We have a long day tomorrow,” you smiled at him and leaned in to give him a kiss on his cheek. “Have a good night, Captain.” You winked knowing quite well what this does to him. You caught him ones inhaling deeply when you called him like that after the mission, and you never forgot about it.
“Goodnight doll.” He sighed, shaking his head in disbelieving. Oh, he was screwed. Very screwed.
**
There were not many times Steve Grant Rogers was surprised and unable to react quickly enough. There was really not many things that would be able to surprise him. But a woman's body, throwing herself into his bed, jumping like a 5 years old child at 4:35 in the morning was one of those things.
“Jesus, doll!” He grumbled when you tried to wake him up by calling his name and pushing his shoulder. “What happened?” He asked lazily, realizing that nothing bad happened, by the big smile on your lips. “Let me sleep.”
“It’s snowing, Stevie!” He growled and turned towards you in a complete shock.
“You woke me up. On my day off at 4:35 to tell me it’s snowing? Thanks, doll, you can go back to bed. This is what I’m gonna do!” He was about to turn around and close his eyes once again when you caught his hand and started to pull him from the bed.
“But it’s snowing!” You exclaimed visibly annoyed he does not understand. “First snow of the year. Come on!” He took a deep breath and stopped in the middle of the room, making you halt as well. After all, he was a super soldier, way stronger than you would ever be.
“Doll! Just stop for a second and think how stupid this whole situation is…” You looked up at him and he sighed. You were biting your lip nervously. After a while, your gaze landed on the floor and he could no longer feel your warm touch on his wrist. “I hope you didn’t wake no one else…” He yawned and smiled softly at her.
“I’m sorry.” He frowned hearing your broken voice. “I… I really love snow and I wanted to enjoy the first flakes with you... “ His eyes widened at your confession. And he was sure his heart skipped a beat or two. “I… I’m sorry. “ You smiled at him, but he was sure it wasn’t real. Before he was able to react you left the room, closing the doors at his face.
And then it hit him. The memory. From one of the days, you were happily talking to him about your family traditions.
“Watching the first snow together started when I joined SHIELD and didn’t have that much time to spend with my family.” You started cheerfully, smiling at the solemn idea of those times with the people you loved so much. “So we decided that no matter what, no matter where we are, or what we do, we would call each other and look at the snow.” You chuckled. “It’s really personal you know? Snow is something I love deeply and I think that’s why it's so special for me. If I ask someone to join me, this would probably be my kind of confession.” You laughed out loud. “It’s stupid right?”
“Fuck!” He cursed under his voice. Quickly putting some clothes on, a coat, hat, some gloves and a scarf he ran to one place he was sure to find you. The roof. He was such an idiot. How could he screw this up?
“It’s beautiful, right?” he stopped hearing your voice. There you were sitting on the edge of the room, looking at the city. He frowned hearing other voices. It was then he noticed a phone in your hand. “It’s fine. The guys are amazing you know? We are making Christmas dinner tomorrow.”
“Oh, that’s adorable, sweety.” Your mother, what he assumed spoke. She had the same soft voice as you did. He could feel the longing for his only girl and he immediately felt bad for making you stay here. “How about Captain Rogers? I thought you’d ask him to join you for the show.” He froze and swallowed. Was he hearing right? Were you planning on asking him to join you for a while?
“It’s fine… Am… He couldn’t.” You lied, not wanting to go into any details. “He’s…”
“A complete idiot!” You jumped hearing a voice behind you, almost dropping the phone. “A complete, utter moron!”
“Is this Captain America?” a what seemed to be a teenage voice called out. “Can I talk to him, sis?”
“I’ll call you all back.” And not waiting for an answer you ended the phone, staring at the man in front of you. “What… What are you doing here?”
“It's snowing.” He smiled, walking towards you. “I’m such a blockhead!” He chuckled and cupped your cheeks with his gloved hands.” You leaned into his touch, so happy to have him here. “I’m sorry, doll!” You shook your head and hugged him, burying your head in his coat.
“I’m happy you came…” You whispered and not thinking about anything you leaned in and kissed him softly. “Look, Stevie, it’s snowing!” He chuckled, and kissed you back, thanking whatever gods there were, that you chose him to show the first snow.

Embarrassing Breakfast
Summary: Sam and reader have finally slept together but you are Tony Stark's daughter and Bucky may decided to hold whatever he saw against Sam for blackmail
A/N: First Sam Wilson fanfic but I love him so much and there isn't enough love for him so I make my own. I am thinking of a prequel and a sequel to this story if you guys like it. Let me know what you think and please be kind this is my first Sam Wilson fanfic after all. I also feel as if I summoned more sebastian stan energy than bucky barnes but eh whatever.
Rating: M for mild language and mentions of sex
The light of the sun filtering in through the window began to wake you from your peaceful sleep. In your half-awake state, you could feel the warmth of a body behind you as a strong arm pulled you closer. You smiled as the memory of last night flashed through your mind. Sam Wilson was in your bed.
After months of mutual pining and sexual tension that you could probably cut with a butter knife and you finally arrived at this moment after a few hours of sweaty, fun, hot sex. You wanted to enjoy this moment instead of getting up so you snuggled closer into Sam’s chest, he let out a hum of approval.
“You awake?” You peaked up to look at his face.
“If I say yes does that mean we have to get up?” His eyes stayed closed.
“Not necessarily but we can’t have awesome morning sex if you’re still asleep.”
Sam’s eyes flew open, “I’m up! I assure you I am very much awake.”
You laughed, wiggling out of his arms to a more upright position letting the sheet fall to reveal your nakedness, you leaned over and kissed him. Thankful that neither of you had morning breath. You kissed like it was the first kiss again, soft and then a bit more aggressive as he began to roll you to your back, his body leaning over you pressing you into the mattress.
Your heart swelled with happiness but that quickly changed as your door slammed open banging against the wall. “Y/N, your dad-.” Bucky looked between you and Sam as the two of you quickly tried to cover yourselves. Bucky let out a laugh. “Wilson, you are so fucking dead.”
` “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Sam gave Bucky a stern look.
Bucky chuckled, “Stark is going to murder you.”
“No, he won’t,” you piped in.
“Uh, yeah he will,” Bucky countered.
Sam looked uneasy but mostly just annoyed, “He won’t kill me, he didn’t kill you,” Sam gestured to Bucky.
“Yeah well, I just killed his parent’s while being under mind control, you however fucked his daughter.”
“Please don’t tell him," you begged.
Bucky gave you a soft look, “Alright I won’t tell him.”
Sam and you sighed in relief but it was short lived.
“But,”
“But what?”
“You,” Bucky pointed to Sam, “have to be nice to me for the next twenty-four hours.”
Sam groaned.
“No old man jokes and you have to do what I ask for twenty-four hours. Deal?”
Sam looked at you and then back at Bucky, “Fine.” Sam raised his hand for a contractual handshake.
“Ew, no, I am not touching your hand. I know where it has been.”
Sam shook his head at the comment.
“Hope she is worth it.”
Sam looked at you, “She is.”
“Well for my original reason of being here is that Stark sent me to get you because I guess we are all eating breakfast together as a team?”
“Why?” You asked.
“Don’t know but you two better get ready and going before Tony shows up. I’ll leave you two to get dressed.”
Bucky left and you and Sam quickly put some clothes on.
“I better go change so no one notices anything, then we’ll talk about what this is and what we want to do.”
You smiled before kissing him, “okay.”
Sam kissed back, “okay.”
Once you were satisfied with how you looked, making sure to cover all evidence of last night’s activities you made your way to the dining room where you were sure everyone was starting breakfast. Everyone already seemed to be there, you couldn’t help but notice the only seat left open was right next to Sam. You wondered if this was Sam's or Bucky’s doing but the smile on Bucky’s face gave you the confirmation that he was the one to blame and was definitely up to something.
“Morning Y/N, morning Wilson.”
“Good morning Bucky,” you forced a polite smile.
“Sam, aren’t you going to tell me good morning as well?” Bucky asked bringing his glass of orange juice up to his lips probably trying to hid a smirk.
Everyone was look between Bucky and Sam clearly knowing that something was going on.
Sam frowned but then forced a tight smile, “Good morning James.”
Bucky didn’t hide his smirk at the formal use of his first name.
It was soon forgotten as everyone began chatting about last night’s party.
“Samuel, would you please pass me the bacon?” Bucky asked, laying it on thick with a shit-eating grin. Everyone’s attention was back to Sam and Bucky as they waited to see what quick quip Sam was going to give.
Sam just grinned and bared it, “Of course.” Sam lifted the plate of bacon and handed it to Bucky.
“I’m sorry but what the hell is going on?” Your father asked.
Sam answered first, “I’m not sure I know what you mean.”
“No, Tony is right, something weird is going on here,” Nat spoke.
“Maybe Sam has just finally warmed up to me.”
“As much as that would please me, having my two best friends getting along, I feel as if that statement is untrue” Steve sighed.
“Well maybe Sam would like to enlighten us on why he has had such a kind nature towards me.”
“Can we please get back to breakfast? It is really good Bruce, thank you.” You did your best to change the subject.
“No, I want to know what is going on because this is way more interesting,” Tony looked between Bucky and Sam waiting for an explanation.
No one spoke, but everyone stared. You reached under the table grasping Sam’s hand in your own, in the hopes that it gave him a bit of strength or help in anyway. It seemed to help because he finally gave an answer. “He’s blackmailing me.” Bucky’s smile fell knowing that his fun was now over.
Natasha grinned, “Ooo, on what?”
You felt it was your turn to be brave, you squeezed Sam’s hand. “Bucky walked in on us this morning and threatened to tell Dad about it unless Sam was nice to him for twenty-four hours,” you answered in one breath.
Sam and you squeezed your hands together waiting for the yelling to begin, if you were going to go out then you’d go out together. However, the yelling never came. Then you heard laughter. Looking up you could see that your dad was laughing.
“Dude, I think he’s having a mental breakdown,” Clint spoke obviously freaked out.
“No, no,” Tony answered between bursts of laughter. “I’m not angry.”
“You aren’t?” Sam asked, thankful and confused.
You breathed a sigh of relief and Sam seemed to relax but you could see the confusion in his knitted brows.
“Of course not. You two have been dancing around each other for months. We all knew it was just a matter of time. Also, Y/N is and adult and can make her own choices. Plus. I’m sure birdman here knows that if he hurts her that I will arc reactor his genitals right off his body, don’t ya?” Tony took a bite of his bacon.
Sam nodded his head and smiled, “I wouldn’t expect anything less.”
“Well this sucks,” Bucky huffed in annoyance.
Steve patted Bucky’s back.
“Better luck next time, greatest generation my ass,” Sam flipped Bucky off.
Bucky smiled, “Still friends?”
“Not on your life,” Sam responded, but everyone knew he meant yes.
You leaned over and kissed Sam on his cheek.
Some cheered and whistled and others groaned at the public display of affection.
“Oh, look at us, we’re in love and not dead inside, get fucked the both of you.” Bucky quoted.
This time you laughed, “I should have never showed you vine.”
“Okay, I have some ground rules,” Tony interrupted before someone else could talk, “None of that where we are eating or I can see. I do not want to see any activities, hear any activities, or have any details associated with activities. Am I clear?”
You rolled your eyes but agreed to the rules.
“Excellent.”
Everyone went back to eating breakfast. No further incidents except when Wanda asked how you and Sam finally got together.
Tony had chimed in, “That falls under details and will not be discussed in my presence.”
You whispered, “I’ll tell you later.” Wanda and Nat smiled, eager to hear all the details your father wanted nothing to know about.
You looked over at Sam as he listened to one of Steve’s stories. You guessed he had said something funny because Sam started laughing and it was the most beautiful thing you had ever heard. You couldn’t help yourself as you leaned over and whispered in his ear, “I love you.”
When his face went blank you worried that you had come on too strong and you knew that it was too early but you really meant it, you loved him. Relief washed over you as he leaned back and whispered, “I love you more.”
The words went straight through you. “Oh, uh, Sam, we forgot that we had something we were suppose to have done this morning.”
Sam looked confused, “We did?”
“Yeah, you know, that thing I promised we’d go do if you weren’t still asleep, you remember?”
Sam choked on his water, “Oh yeah, we should definitely go do that.” Sam sat down his water, stood up and grabbed your hand. The two of you fled the room quickly shouting a goodbye behind you.
“Well that’s gross,” Clint grumbled.
“Zip it, no details, we will just assume they did have something they had to go do.”
Nat snickered, “Yeah, each other.”

Poll Winner...Hotel Horrors!
Hotel Horrors
Hey everyone so so sorry that this took forever and a day to get out. The short version is I quit my new job because it was leading me down a dark path of anxiety and depression so I’ve been struggling with all of that nonsense and quite frankly lost the motivation to write anything at all. I want everyone to know that your mental health matters and no job (no matter the money or benefits) is worth putting that at risk.
Anyway, here’s the winner of my 200 follower poll! I do plan on writing the other choices eventually, but again I’ve been struggling HARD with writer’s block.
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Fem!Reader
Words: 5,586
Warnings: Mentions of booze, a few swear words. A crude joke. Pretty much all fluff with some panicked!Steve and switching of names.
Summary: Steve Rogers lost something extremely important at your hotel during an undercover mission. What will you do when you find out your celebrity crush was staying under your roof?!
It’s in Y/N Y/L/N format, and I own no characters save for the reader and her coworkers/family. No beta, so mistakes are mine, ALL MINE I tell you!
ENJOY!
“Y/N my happy little orange blossom!”
You looked up from your mug, hot tea sloshing in your mouth until you could force it down. It was eight-thirty am on a brisk Monday in New York City, the hustle and bustle of morning traffic mixed with the grogginess of another too short weekend over. The hotel lobby had been quiet a whole half hour before your uncle had made his presence known. The Wilson hotel, named after your grandfather’s first dog had been in your family for just shy of sixty years, your father and uncle taking over when your grandfather decided to retire five years ago. It was a quaint but lovely little building, boasting just fifty six rooms and four luxury suites. Your grandfather had bought the building on a splurge, wanting to create his own income and become his own boss, much to the encouragement of your grandmother. It was an instant success, the small homely atmosphere mixed with the most affordable prices in the city kept you busy as a receptionist.
Things had slowed down just a touch now that the new year was here and the holidays were gone, people not traveling as much to make up for the money they had spent on presents for whatever they were celebrating. You were usually never caught dead at work on Mondays, never one to really enjoy the swarms of grumpy travelers in the early hours. Sundays and Mondays, until this week unfortunately, were your prized days off. That all changed the minute Mandy the other receptionist who usually worked days where you worked nights decided to bring her third hell spawn into the world a week early. A New Year’s baby. How lovely. Now because of the aptly named “Kia”, you were forced to pull double duty until her replacement started next week. So much for your Christmas wish of working less. You took it in stride though, after all Mandy was your soon to be cousin, your cousin Brent popping the question Christmas morning surrounded by all of your family. The very same family who was quick to point out that you were now the last of six children to be engaged. Or the last of six to have children. Or the last of six to be in a remotely serious relationship. And no, your crush on Captain America most certainly did not count. The only one who hadn’t spoken a word against you was Uncle Todd. He had always been your favorite, and you his. He never married, nor had kids of his own, so he was always quick to jump down your family’s throats. After all, he owned sixty percent of the Wilson and he turned out just fine thank you very much.
His only downfall was that he was simply too happy in the mornings.
His deep chuckle brought you back to the present, an annoyed expression passing over you as he lovingly patted you on the top of your head. He’d been doing it since you were a child. You had hated it since you were a child too. “Oh come now Y/N, surely you aren’t that hung over from the New Year’s celebration? It was a week ago after all. Put some spring in your step!”
“First of all, it’s too early for you. Now I know why I don’t work mornings.” You muttered the last bit into your oversized mug before draining the rest of your English breakfast tea. “Secondly,” you cleared your throat, picking up your electric kettle that sat at your desk and started on brewing your second cup, “You know damn well I don’t get hangovers Uncle. Fortunately I have your alcohol tolerance instead of my hopeless father’s.” The tea bag fell into your now full mug with an uninterested plop. “And thirdly, I’m only here because Mandy is out and Rachel doesn’t start for another week. Last I checked you don’t pay me enough to care about “peppiness” this early on a Monday.”
The shaking of his head normally would have you fearing for a spiel about being more carefree and positive, but the grin he was sporting brought a small one to your features. “We’ll make a morning person out of you yet Y/N. Carson here yet?”
“Nope, I’d wager dad’s stuck in traffic,” you pulled a face before adding “Again”.
“I swear that man will be late to his own funeral. I expect we’ll get a phone call any moment now, be sure to rip him a new one for me eh? Oh my new year’s resolution is to leave the house earlier so I can be on time my left foot.” You giggled, stirring honey into your beverage as he continued to rant and rave all the way to his office, the loud creak of his large chair announcing his defeat on the subject of your father’s constantly late arrivals.
As if on cue the main lobby’s terribly outdated phone rang loudly, a surprised yelp leaving your lips as you set the cup down and picked up the receiver.
“Good morning and thank you for calling the Wilson,” Your customer service voice was a common shock to your family and friends, the usual snark and sarcasm replaced with a sweet and patient tone. You quickly added, “Dad if this is you calling to say you’re running late, it’s been like this for five years. You don’t need to give us a heads up. We know you’ll show up, but you should know uncle Todd prefers it be before the next turn of the century.”
“Well Mandy your uncle seems like a reasonable man although I can assure you I’m extremely punctual.” The voice was certainly not your father’s, and for second you were extremely embarrassed and looking for quick way to end it. It wasn’t normal to get phone calls this early. But before you could do anything rash the person on the other line let out a short laugh. “I needed that laugh today, thank you. It’s been a stressful morning.”
“I’m sorry about that! I’m afraid Mandy is out, my name is Y/N.”Your face burned with the intensity of the sun as you quickly moved on, “How can I help you today mister….”
“Rogers. I’m sorry I assumed you were Mandy.”
“It’s alright mister Rogers.”
“Great.” He continued, taking a breath “Mandy alright?”
“Yep the baby just came early and she went into labor during our charity event last week.”
“How beautiful. I recall her saying something about contractions now that you mention it. Listen Y/N I was wondering if you could help me out on something urgent?”
“Sure mister Rogers, anything for my favorite neighbor.” You blurted out and then inwardly cringed at your own terrible joke, but again it was met by the stranger’s rough laughter. It almost sounded familiar. Like maybe you had heard it in person. Or on the television.
“Cute. I’m sure he…I mean I’ve never heard that one before.” The man recovered and you raised an eyebrow although he couldn’t see it. “So the long story short is that a friend and I checked in last week for your New Year’s charity Gala. It was stunning, had a wonderful time.”
“We had Pepper Potts as a consultant for the event, she’s incredible with event planning. Tony Stark donated some of the art work we auctioned off that night if you recall. Many were saddened to hear he wasn’t able to attend, but miss Potts looked lovely and did a great job.”
“That she did, and I’m sure he was there…in spirit I suppose.” The man got out hastily before recomposing himself. “Anyway I’m afraid my colleague and I were so partied out when we checked out the next day I realized I forgot a very important flash drive somewhere in my suite.”
“Not a problem mister Rogers, our suites are extremely private and we haven’t had any guests in them since last week so I have no problem calling housekeeping and seeing if they found anything. Just a thumb drive you said?”
“Yes a small black thumb drive. I’m super boring and predictable. And please, call me Tony.”
“Alright mister-“You stopped yourself, “Tony. What suite were you in? And we can check your friend’s suite too if you want to give me his name.”
“Oh of course suite number two. He was staying under the name Steve Stark.”
You held in a laugh. It was normal for high-caliber people and celebrities to check in under false names, sometimes even using the names of other celebrities. Kim Kardashian-West checked in as Princess Jasmine once somewhere.
“And you’re Tony Rogers. Funny, I’m sure Mandy didn’t catch that one. She isn’t the brightest crayon in the box I’m afraid.”
“I can agree with you there. “ The man laughed again, and you realized you were finding yourself in a good mood talking to this man. Why was that?
“Well I’ll do some digging and see what I can find. Is this a good number to reach you at Tony?”
“Yes this number is the right one to snag me at.”
“Perfect, I’ll get housekeeping on it right away as no one has been in there since your stay. I’ll call you in a couple days with our results. Hopefully we find it for you. Have a great day!”
“You too Y/N, talk to you soon.”
You hung up the phone and promptly dropped your head on the desk. Where did you know that voice from?
~~Earlier at the Tower~~
“For the last time Steve I haven’t seen your thumb drive!” Sam waved Steve away from blocking the game on the television in the common area. “Now you make a better mountain sized door instead of a window.” Steve huffed angrily out of the room.
“Haven’t seen it Cap, might I suggest checking your shoes?” Tony got out in between bites of his cereal, Bucky laughing with him at the Captain’s deadpanned expression. “What? Worth a shot.”
He stomped out of that room too.
Even Nat had jumped on the skeptical side, narrowing her eyes as he dug through his luggage again for the seventh time in the past two days, “Are you sure you didn’t pack it?”
This was it. This was how Steve Rogers was going to lose his mind. The sleep deprived and stress-ridden super solider pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to take deep breaths. It proved fruitless and he smashed his phone into the wall a day later at the suggestion from Tony to just call the Wilson. The same hotel Tony and him had stayed at the previous week for an undercover mission.
The team had accepted the circumstances, Strange and Nat running communications while Tony and Steve underwent massive amounts of makeup to change their appearance. Tony of course went the craziest. Bald cap, clean shaved face and a suit that made him look even more buff than he already was. Nat kept calling him “Daddy Warbucks”. Steve however had kept it simple. Changed his hair color, grew his beard out a little longer, contacts, and wore a slightly ill fitting suit.
Truth be told he didn’t understand why they needed to be there at first. “Catching art thieves” wasn’t something that usually required action from The Avengers. NYPD were more than capable most of the time, so it came as a shock when one of the owners of the Wilson reached out to them via email. The message didn’t say too much, other than a time, date, and small description of the group of men needing apprehended. Todd and his partner didn’t want these men getting to the very expensive masterpieces they were auctioning off for charity, and just wanted some extra security. Apparently the thieves had been snatching works of art for nearly a decade and hadn’t been caught. Tony loved a challenge and accepted. Todd suggested setting a trap and sending a couple of them undercover so as to not draw unwanted attention. As an added bonus Tony donated some of the art to be auctioned off at the Gala held in his hotel on New Year’s Eve. He even offered to put them up in two of their nicer suites for no charge.
Tony was in the minute he mentioned undercover. He even took to making some secret compartments in their attire, you know just in case.
“You too Y/N, talk to you soon.”
Speaking of the billionaire, he was now putting his phone back in his pocket, a smug expression on his face.
“Y/N the receptionist said she’d look into it and call back in a couple days. Now will you calm down?”
“I can’t calm down Tony, that thumb drive had all the evidence to put the art thieves away.”
“Wet Bandits” Tony corrected, Steve rolling his eyes. “The trial isn’t for another week and worrying is only going to force you into an earlier grave. So cool it.”
The blonde man ran a hand through his hair. He truly hated it when his friend was right. Though he’d never tell him of course, his ego was big enough as is. He let out a sigh, “Fine.”
“Great. Now make a list of places you were in the hotel during the Gala, we can go retrace your steps if they don’t find anything. I think your ancient brain is finally catching up to you Cap.”
Steve slammed the door to his room with that remark, seething with embarrassment and anger. It’s not like he had meant to lose it. He’d never lost intel like this before. Actually now that he thought about it he couldn’t think of a time he had ever lost something this important. Falling into his desk chair with an ungraceful thud, he began writing the places he had been during New Year’s Eve.
~~Flashback, Night of the Gala~~
“We’ll get right back to the Auction after the ball drops!” A jolly looking man, who the team learned to be Todd interrupted the evening, encouraging everyone to mingle and enjoy themselves. Tony didn’t need to be told a second time, making his way to the open bar while Strange noted his obvious distaste in their ear pieces.
People nearly trampled Steve as he got up from his seat, emptying out of the large conference room and into the beautifully decorated grand ballroom just outside. He couldn’t say he blamed anyone, being squished like sardines for the last two hours was starting to even get on his nerves. And he lived in a compound of superheroes with no real sense of boundaries. He was enjoying his solitude, no one recognizing him for the first time in years. It felt liberating, only having a select few know his true identity. He almost didn’t miss it.
He felt a slight shove into his shoulder, turning his body to glance down at the elegant figure draped in simple green velvet, your wide eyes burning into his in embarrassment.
“I’m…I’m such a klutz my apologies!” You stuttered out, giving him the smallest hint of a shy smile.
“No harm no foul. Tony.” He stuck out a hand, giving himself points for not messing up his alias.
You placed your small hand in his and immediately Steve was struck by how soft your hand felt. But before you could give your name your heads swiveled at the shouting coming from the far side of the room. He noted how your eyes shown slight disappointment as you broke from the greeting.
“Forgive me. My relatives and booze never makes for a good outcome.” With a defeated sigh you turned on your heel, clicking away towards Todd, muttering to yourself. “Way to go Y/L/N, always running into gorgeous people and then running away.”
Ok, he missed it a little. You were the sort of someone he would have liked to ask to dance. If under different circumstances of course. Maybe. But silver lining, at least he had been able to catch your last name. He watched you run off with a dreamy look on his face.
“Heads up lover boy, we got company.” Nat jolted Steve from his thoughts, four men entering the large room and nonchalantly casing the place. How these men had gotten away with stealing art for close to a decade was beyond him. Hiding within plain sight he moved to a vantage point high up on a stairwell.
“Tony you got them?”
“You mean Steve. I’m Steve, you’re Tony. Geesh that dime wasn’t in your orbit for more than two minutes and you’re this scrambled?” Tony teased, Steve groaning into his ear piece and earning a smirk in response. “Yea I got them, shall I go ahead and set the plan in motion?” He caught Steve’s nod and reaffirmed it with his own, making his way towards the group. “Then the game is afoot!”
Steve made a mental note to ask Thor for some meade after all of this was over.
The rest of the night went easy enough. The “Wet Bandits” fell for the trap, they were caught red handed and arrested on the spot. Steve managed to swipe a USB drive from the ring leader of the group before the police carted off the criminals, the crowd clapping and cheering for them. They looked like normal, non-super people, just doing the right thing at the right time. It gave the team a sense of pride, knowing even without their suits or names they still got the job done.
“Where should I put this?” He fiddled with the small storage device. Nat had mentioned it would most likely have very incriminating evidence on it. She also put extra emphasis on keeping it safe.
“I don’t know, somewhere close to your soul?”
“That makes no sense Tony.”Steve muttered from the punch bowl, watching his partner walk towards him, empty glass in tow. Typical.
Tony joined him while everyone began to count down the minutes til the new year, gloating about how he couldn’t wait to kiss Pepper.
“That’s rich considering you look like mister clean right now. Think of the headlines.” Strange muttered into the comms and Tony laughed, forgetting temporarily what he looked like in his present state. “Hey there’s that girl you were making eyes at Rogers.”
The contacts he wore were starting to itch from dryness, and Steve found himself exceptionally happy that the night would soon be ending. He couldn’t help but gravitate toward you, your smile and light laughter ringing over the small group of people around you.
“Hello again.” Steve tried to think of what Tony would do in this situation, and then decided the cocky approach probably wouldn’t go over well. Your eyes twinkled in the glow of the gentle lighting, the room dimming as it got closer to a new year.
“Hi again.” Sixty seconds to go.
“I didn’t get to tell you earlier but you look stunning.” You were happy your blush was hidden in the near darkness of the room. The people were getting louder in their chanting of the time, Steve swallowing hard as your smile grew wider with the passing second. As so did his confidence.
“Thank you, that suit is an…interesting color.” Steve remembered his current attire and internally grimaced. What a claude you must think him, showing up in an ill fitting suit, beard barely groomed, his slightly red eyes. Of course he gets the gumption to make small talk and introduce himself and what happens? He looks like a homeless vacuum salesman.
“Ten…Nine…Eight…” He watched as you looked around the room, loudly calling out the numbers, unaware of how smitten he must have been looking at you. You seemed so genuine in your happiness, your smile beaming and lighting up the whole room.
“Five….Four..” He had no idea what was making him inch closer to you, but he couldn’t stop himself. It was like he needed to be near that sort of energy. He hadn’t met anyone that put him so much at ease so quickly before. Why was that?
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!” The crowd erupted in cheers and shouts, guests pulling on party popper strings and Todd and Carson popping bottles of champagne open with sabers. He laughed at you while you shook your head at your obvious relatives. Of course it had to be sabers. Perhaps it was the atmosphere. Maybe it was the loud music. He blamed a large portion of it on the alcohol, although it did nothing for him. Whatever it was spread throughout his entire nervous system and pushed him to place a small kiss on your blush tapped cheek.
“Happy New Year.” He managed to get out, taken aback by his own actions. You didn’t seem to mind, only beamed a smile that seemingly blinded him. Which wasn’t difficult to accomplish thanks to the stupid contacts.
“Yappy Hew Near.” Your alarmed expression at your jumbled words caused Steve to let out a deep laugh, you joining in shortly after. The night concluded with the art being bought back by Tony, not truly wanting to see them go in the first place. He could already hear the argument he and Pepper would be having later. If the look she gave him was any indication, he fully expected Stark to be in sofa city for the better part of the new year. He headed back to his suite with a bounce in his step, happy with the overall outcome.
Steve’s happiness was gone the minute they got back to the Tower and he noticed the flash drive was nowhere in sight.
~~Present~~
Which lead him to this moment of staring at Sam while he went over his paper. There weren’t that many places on it which made for a short list. The lobby, ballroom, conference room, and of course his suite were the only places he went after swiping the drive. Sam took note of all of the sighs leaving the tall man’s lips as he perused the list, growing slightly annoyed.
“Steve, man you gotta get laid. Or go fishing. Somethin’. Anything that will make you less mopey.” His friend grinned, it sinking into a frown when Steve gave him murderous side eye.
“Sam I appreciate you inserting yourself into my personal life again but I still haven’t found that drive. It means everything to the trial and without it –“
”The Wet Bandits won’t be convicted and you will have failed this city…yadda yadda…” Bucky finished, putting his hands on his hips as he stood alongside Sam. “Seriously pal, we know. But worrying about it ain’t gonna make it appear out of thin air. Stop making it worse.”
“Easy for you to say Buck,” Steve scoffed. “You weren’t the one that lost it.”
“Well Cap, I guarantee it will be in the last place you left it!” Tony said, smiling cheerfully at him while he snatched the list from Sam, nodding once he had finished going over it. “We’ll find it, stop getting your old man undies in a bunch and go do something productive.”
Steve went running for three hours, the entire time thinking of ways to get away with murder.
~~~Meanwhile at the Wilson~~~
“I’m telling you Uncle I have torn these rooms apart and I haven’t found anything!!!”
You were laying on the floor of the suite Tony Rogers, or whatever his real name was had stayed in the week prior, your uncle staring down at you from the doorway that lead out into the hall.
“I can see that.” You uncle stated matter of fact, astonished at the sight. “Orange blossom it’s been two days and you haven’t found anything, I think you should give the nice man a call.”
“Ughmnpf” Was your response, your voice muffled from your face in the carpet. Housecleaning hadn’t found anything when they had cleaned both rooms, and you had spent the better part of forty eight hours digging through everything. Todd had rounded up a crew to search the rooms the Gala had been at just in case, and had turned up nothing. Well they did find your uncle’s most prized bottle opener that was shaped like a large great white shark he had gotten from the Caribbean three years ago, but that wasn’t doing anyone any favors. “He’s gonna be so upset Todd. I don’t know if I can to talk to him again.” You complained weakly, rolling onto your back to stare at the ceiling.
“Nonsense, if I remember him well enough I know he’d be very impressed with how you managed to tear these rooms apart looking for something he lost in the first place. Give yourself more credit.”
You dragged yourself off the plush floor and made your way to the phone located in the room, taking out a small slip of paper out from the pocket of your dark gray slacks and punching it into the phone. It rang four times before you were sent to voicemail.
“Hey you’ve reached the personal voicemail of Tony Stark, obviously I’m too wrapped up right now to take your call, so leave a message and I’ll call back when I feel like it.”
You stared into the phone in shock, the loud tone making you jump and sputter into the receiver.
“Ssss…sorry to call this number, I was told I could reach Tony Rogers here. This is Y/N from the Wilson, if you’re free to stop by at three this afternoon I’d greatly appreciate it. Thh..thank you.” You hung up the phone. Now you were certain you had been played. What was this mystery man playing at? First he gives you an obviously fake name and then gives you the phone number of THE Tony Stark?
“What’s wrong Y/N? You look like you just discovered spit in your cheerios. Which might I add hasn’t happened in years.”
“Um, who stayed in this suite Uncle? Tell me the truth.” You narrowed your eyes, attempting to look menacing in your bright mustard sweater and messy bun.
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but it sounds like you’ll meet him soon enough. Which lucky for me, I’ll be here to record it.” Your face paled as your heart started to race.
Who the hell was coming to the hotel?!
~~~Three p.m~~~
“I don’t know about this Tony,” Steve muttered into his new phone, trudging up the slightly slick steps of the hotel. It was snowing, wet globs falling from the sky and sticking to the warm pavement creating a walking hazard for most people. He wasn’t most people though. “You called her. You should be here.”
“And you lost the drive, so you have retrieve it. Now get that stick out of your ass and maybe after ask her out afterwards. ” Steve rolled his eyes, the sass evident in the brunette’s tone. Everyone had gotten fed up with him over the last few days, although he was certain that was a massive understatement. “Let me know how it goes, I’ve got a meeting so I’ll talk to you afterwards.” Steve ended the call with a firm click, taking extra care at putting his phone into his pocket upon entering the lobby. Would hate to have to purchase a second phone within a week.
He was delighted to see you behind the counter, recognizing you from the gala. Granted your eyes were as big as dinner plates and you were choking on whatever was in your mug but you still managed to look lovely. He had it bad and he didn’t have the faintest idea why or how. But he did know that your smile had plagued his nights and swept through his days the entire time he had been looking for this drive. He would definitely be asking you out today.
“Hello I’m looking for Y/N?” Steve said politely, knowing good and well he was staring at her. He noticed Todd off to the side, clearly recording the whole ordeal on his phone. He had mentioned at the Gala that Y/N had harbored an intense school girl crush on the captain most of her life, and had been slightly looking forward to meeting him. Granted this was technically the third time they had met, but she didn’t know that yet.
“She’s right here!” Todd said brightly, your brain attempting to pick itself off the floor and reinsert itself back into your skull. You shook your head out of your shock and smiled, trying hard to calm your nerves. You could probably beat a hummingbird with how fast your heart was racing.
“He’s right I’m Y/N. You must be mister Rogers.” You mentally smacked yourself. Of course he was. His small grin at your expense made the humiliation twenty times worse.
“That I am. Any luck finding my drive?” He was trying to be direct. Right. He had no business here otherwise. You lowered your head, both out of disappointment and guilt.
“I’m afraid not. I personally searched both suites myself for hours and couldn’t find a single black flash drive. I’m so sorry but I was hoping maybe if you revisited the room that it would jog your memory?”
“Good luck with that,” Todd chimed in, your gaze ripping from Steve’s blue eyes to look at your uncle sharply, “It looks like a bomb went off up there.”
“I think it’s a decent idea, sure.” Steve admonished, finding himself at wits end over the matter.
You nodded and lead the way to the elevators, your uncle electing to stay behind much to your behest. Perhaps you would have a heart attack on the way up and that would be the end of it. No, that was being too optimistic. You took the space closest to the far wall, keeping your distance and blush ridden skin as far away from the super solider as possible.
“Ya know this isn’t the first time we’ve met.” Steve said simply, giving you a heartbreaking smile. “You quite literally bumped into me during the gala. And I was with you during the countdown later on that night.”
“I surely would have remembered running into you mister Rogers.” You retorted back just as simply, attempting to study the buttons on the elevator in great detail.
“Not if I was undercover. I had a long beard, terribly fitting suit. Black hair. I’m afraid the contacts made my eyes a little red from the dryness. You were looking absolutely breathtaking, wearing a beautiful green velvet dress. I’ll admit I was pulled to you from the very first moment I laid eyes on you. What were your exact words at midnight?” Your breath caught in your throat when you met his eyes, the recognition hitting you like a freight truck.
“Yappy Hew Near.” You both said it in union, your face going from tinted pink to full on tomato red when you realized Captain America had kissed you on the cheek that night.
“I am SUCH an idiot I am so sorry!” You stammered out, hoping for the first time in your life that the elevator would NOT break down with you stuck in it with Steve Rogers.
“Hey doll it’s alright, really. I wouldn’t have done what I did if I didn’t want to. Your smile is something else.” That caused you to blush harder, if that was possible. “Now let’s go see about that suite huh?”
You really hated how cool he was about the whole thing.
Deciding it would be in your best interest to get this over with as soon as possible you practically tore down the suite door, the inside looking like a tornado went through it. After a band of criminals ransacked it. You tensed up when you heard Steve let out a slow and low whistle.
“You’ve uh…you’ve been busy.” He tried, not easing your nerves and surveying the area. “I believe you when you say you didn’t find anything.”
A nervous chuckle escaped you, “Can you walk me through what happened when you got back here? It might help talking through it.” Steve nodded at you although he wasn’t looking in your direction, his tall stature breezing around the large room with ease.
“I went to the bathroom after taking off my jacket,” He looked in the closet. Nothing. “I took out the awful contacts and shaved.” You giggled as he mimed running a razor over his face in the bathroom. He placed the invisible facial tool down on the counter and walked back out, looking slightly behind you at the nightstand. “I placed my watch there and went to take off my sh…”
The sentence died in his throat, you becoming slightly concerned as he proceeded to stand ramrod still. “Steve? Did you remember something?”
He took off his right shoe, staring into it with a slack jaw.
“You’ve got to be shitting me.”
“Steve? You’re making me nervous, talking into your shoe and all.” You had begun to back away when a slightly hysterical laugh escaped the man’s throat, the timber wavering as he ripped the insole out of the piece of footwear. You were starting to rethink being alone in a hotel room with him.
It was only when he took out the small thumb drive from a hidden compartment in his sole that you began laughing too. But yours was partially due to extreme anger.
“It…was in…your…shoe….the WHOLE time…?” You managed to get out, heaving breaths and attempting to catch them while the good Captain continued to lean onto the nightstand for support, his own breath ragged.
“Tony….made a joke…about putting it…close to…my soul.” He stood up straight, slowly regaining composure which you were not finding helpful. “I must have been so tired that I thought putting it in there was a good idea.”
“Well clearly it was a good place, you couldn’t even find it. But who uses a shoe? Honestly.”
Steve had the good sense to look embarrassed, running a hand through his hair and offering an apologetic smile. “I am so embarrassed. You tore this hotel apart looking for this and I had it the whole time. The team will never let me live it down once they find out.”
“Who says they have to know?” Came your reply, already heading to the suite door and pulling it open with a bit of effort. “I won’t tell anyone. It’ll be our secret.”
“What’s the catch doll?” He held the door for you and you gave a mumbled thanks.
“Drinks. Right now.” You said confidently, looking into his eyes, his real blue eyes with ease.
“Can’t I’m afraid.” Steve grinned at your sad expression. “We have dinner plans first.”
“Pizza?”
“You read my mind Y/N.”
You couldn’t stop yourself, beaming another mega-watt smile.
“Maybe we’re SOLE-mates mister Rogers. Shall we?”
You both laughed the entire way to the restaurant down the street.
The end.

Series: La Muneca del Barrio
A/N: One thing I forgot to mention is that there will be a lot of spanish in this series and I do hope you understand it is for both the story and how I wish to tell this story. I’m hispanic myself so I know that using spanish is still very iffy but it’s my story and I mean no harm by it.
Summary/AN: This a passion project really, I’ve written previously using the mob!au so this a second attempt in that genre (i guess you could call it).
Warnings: Blood, violence, smut, strong language, and drug use
Rocio Cruz lives in a Brooklyn block best known for its vibrant and ignored community. What she always ignored though was the underground scene in the borough, the evils that lay in it and its people. That all comes to an end when she’s introduced to those things she ignored.
Chapter 2: Que Comience La Fiesta
Masterlist

It’d been some days since the girl, who’s name was Leticia had spoke to Rocio about Rubio. She wasn’t sure what to make of the whole situation. She did believe her date with Cubano but mostly because the girl was from Harlem. What exactly did Brooklyn’s dueno have to do with Harlem’s mover?
Background:
Unlike her mama Maritza, who did know about all the under ground world in New York, Rocio was clueless. Her mama kept it that way from the start. She didn’t want her children growing up in that mess. She would have avoided it herself had it not been for her pajarito Rafael. In order to understand so much, you gotta go to the past.
Before Rocio was born, her papa worked for just about anyone in Brooklyn who had a say with the mafiosos. He came from Puerto Rico, hidden in a boat and praying that he stayed alive to see America. When he got to the states he started working odd jobs, which is where he caught the eye of Rubio’s mentor, an older man called Blue eyes. He liked the work ethic her papa had and hired him. That’s around the time he met Maritza. She on the other hand was a waitress at her parents’ restaurant. She came from immigrant parents who traveled from Mexico to New York. Don’t ask them how either because they’ll never tell, they didn’t to their children and they won’t to their grandchildren either.
When Rocio was born, Blue eyes started getting sick. However, he got the chance to meet the baby before he went. Maritza wasn’t all that happy about that at first. However, what came after for her and her family was what changed her mind. Blue eyes had made it a point that after his death that’s where her father’s job ended. In return for always working hard and being loyal, the old Blue eyes was giving Rafael a good sum of money and protection for the rest of his life. That the guy who would take over, would respect that decision and the Cruz family for however the “corporation” would continue.
However, this would not go as planned. Eventually Rubio would come to power but he was too young at the time. So it went to a man who had no business being in power, they called him Mika but no one knew if that was his real name. Anyways, he was a puto through and through. He was a thief to his own men and didn’t care for the business, he just wanted to control everyone.
That. It was Mika, who everyone considered a little bitch, who was the reason that Rafael ended up in jail and Cubano came to his power alongside Rubio. In 2003 a fifteen year old Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson with help from others within the “corporation” set up Mika. They killed the bastard at a night club well known around the cartel community in Harlem. Unfortunately not everyone got out clean, but true to his loyalty Rafael took the blame for all of it. This was the one time he didn’t sing like a bird. The feds had nothing on him, they tried to get to Maritza but she had already went into hiding, with help from her parents.
Rocio was clueless about all this, regardless it didn’t matter because she was already too pressured into the whole party thing by Leticia who by now had taken her shopping for a dress. They looked through racks of dresses in a little store just a couple of blocks from Harlem.She had her eyes on a pink satin mini dress, “y esta? you think it’s cute?” She asked Leti who scrunched her nose, “mami, I think que mejor you keep looking around.” Rocio shrugged, she was probably right, these men were rich, no just anything would do, but she was on a budget. The bills were due in a couple of days so whatever she got had to be cute and cheap.After a while of looking around and finding nothing they went back to Brooklyn where Rocio knew she would find something. “Como conosistes a Cubano?” Rocio asked Leti quietly while they looked around a boutique where she always shopped since she was in high school. Leticia looked at the dresses, with a look of stress before she started speaking, “one day he came to my ma’s little stand where her and my pops sell street food, el tipo ahi estaba, he just talked to them and then I came from work to help them. He started talking to me, bueno pues ese hombre es tremendo mangon-” she stops to laugh a little, her cheeks getting bright. “We talked for a while and he started talking himself up, about how he could make me a big deal in Harlem. Eh, tu sabes how they talk to girls but Cubano means it. Then he asked me to go with him to this party. Como le voy a dicir que no?” She finished, then grabbing a dress to show for approval to Rocio.
The dress was cute, so they went with it.They finished shopping and headed to Rocio’s place to get ready. Maritza was cooking when they entered the house. One look at the girls and she knew that her daughter was not going to be home for dinner, “y adonde sales esta noche nina? Buenas tardes, y tu como te llamas.” She said eyeing the girls up and down while her siblings laughed from the table at the end of the room.Sighing at the annoyance of the situation she answered, “mama, es una fiesta. Voy a regrezar, you don’t trust me enough.” She said leading Leticia to her room, “buenas tardes, Doña Cruz, soy Leticia, gusto de conocerla!” She said following Rocio. Maritza rolled her eyes, “I do trust you mija! Es los de afuera a que no confio!” She yelled as she finished cooking.When they finished getting ready it was already 8.
Leticia kept looking at her phone, waiting for the text that said where they would meet the car at. Some minutes later they text came. Rocio’s siblings were with her mama in her room watching tv. They moved quietly but not quiet enough, “y se piensan ir sin percinarse? eh?” She heard her mom said from the door way of her room. The girls sighed turning around. “Vengan,” looking at the two girls, who reminded her of her younger days she began, “en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo, y del Espirtu Santo.” there was a pause, “ya bueno pues antes de que las dejen. Be safe! Rocio me hablas!” They hurried out.The girls were glad they didn’t meet the car in front of the apartment building where Rocio lived, that car would have all the nana’s talking for days. What they weren’t expecting was that Cubano would be waiting inside the car, a cigar in his hand and the other waiting to take Leti’s hand. To say Leticia was beyond thrilled he was there was an understandment, “papi! You look so good, esta tremendo verdad Roci?” She asked her friend as the car took off. Rocio just nodded, she never thought this would be happening.
He stared at her, something about her seemed familiar, he was trying to see what was up with you, interrupting the conversation he was having with his girl he dragged another puff of his cigar before speaking “your plus one is very quiet mami,” he finally said. She looked at him, “oh sorry, my name’s Rocio. Uh Rocio Cruz, nice to meet you.” Leticia looked at her Cubano, curious as to how he would react to her answer. “Cruz?” Wilson was intrigued now, “By any chance would your papi’s name be Rafael?” He said with a smirk, she looked both confused and startled. She looked at Leticia before answering, “yeah, my pop’s name is Rafael, do you know him?” He just laughed and nodded, “mami, you did a good job picking a friend to bring. Steve is gonna love this.”
Steve? Steve el Rubio Rogers? He was gonna be at the party? Leticia said he might be, but Rocio didn’t think a man like him liked parties. Her mind was racing, how did they know her dad? Was she about to die? Her thoughts were interrupted by the car shutting off and someone opening the door, the girls were led out. “Ladies, welcome to my little festival, a celebrar mami!” Cubano yelled happily as they entered a studio where salsa was playing loudly and people were taking white lines like shots. They walked to a stall in the back of the studio where a large table was set up with velvet chairs and expensive liquor. “Rocio, you wait here. Mami you come with me, your fine ass can’t be left alone.” Cubano said taking Leticia somewhere, in no time a waiter came and offered her a drink from the liquor which she gladly took at the fear of not knowing what was going to happen next. If this was her last night she might as well go out having a bit of fun. She looked through her phone, seeing what everyone else was doing but knowing better than to post anything herself. It felt like forever until she saw Leti again. Except now, there was a man with blonde hair and beside him a man with blue eyes. Cubano had brought guests to the table, “Cruz, this Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.”

The Little Wolf Queen Chapter 1
Chapter 1: The Connection
Ava is woken up too early, is stared at by one of the boys on the hockey team and feels weird. Shawn goes to school, his nose is on overdrive and he finds his mate.
The first thing she heard was the shrieking blare of her alarm followed by her stepmother Elena calling her name from downstairs. Groaning, she slammed her hand down on the alarm before rolling back into her sheets to enjoy the warmth, closing her eyes….and immediately opening them when she heard her door open.
“Ava” Elena’s gentle voice came through her room. “Ava sweetheart, you gotta get up for school”
“No” Ava grumbled.
“Ava honey, school is important” Elena chuckled.
“It’s not, I’m gonna make a killing being a grumpy judge on a talent show like Simon Cowell” Ava muttered from under her covers.
“You still need to finish school, now come on and get up before-”
“AVAAAAAA” came the loud voice of her three-year-old sister before a small mass crashed into her body with much more force than it should’ve.
“Oof” Ava groaned upon the impact.
“Chelsea!” Elena chastised the small girl. “Don’t do that, you could hurt your sister!”
“Sorry Mommy” Chelsea said bashfully.
“Don’t apologize to me, apologize to your sister” Elena scolded.
“Sorry Ava” Chelsea smiled before throwing herself to hug her older sister.
“S’alright kid” Ava smiled back before reaching for her phone to take a quick snapchat of her sister being all cuddly and cute.
“Let’s get you both downstairs, gotta get you both ready for school” Elena smiled.
Reluctantly hauling herself out of bed, she remembered why she loved her blankets so much. It may have been spring in Canada, but the mornings could be chilly. Her sleep jumper and shorts were perfect until she removed the blankets, even on the carpet and with socks on, her legs felt slightly cold. Walking down the stairs somewhat drowsily with a big yawn coming up, Ava couldn’t help but smile as the twins stood at the bottom of the stairs with big curious eyes as they watched their mom with big smiles to match.
“Oh, by the way, they ate the rest of the chocolate cake” Elena smiled apologetically. “I can buy some more from the bakery when I drop them off at Mum’s”
“Elena darling” Ava’s dad called from the kitchen, “Where on earth is the cheese?”
“Back of the fridge” both Ava and Elena answered at the same time.
“You don’t suppose he’ll ever get his eyes checked, do you?” Elena quizzed gazing into the kitchen.
“It’s Dad, what do you think?” Ava stated like it was obvious.
Elena laughed her bell like laugh and took the hands of the twins while Chelsea grabbed Ava’s hand and pulled her down the stairs.
“Morning sleeping beauty” Ava’s dad smiled fondly at his somewhat disheveled daughter.
“Dad” she acknowledged. “Can you grab me that cereal?”
Passing the cereal to his daughter, he watched her as she sighed upon looking at her phone. “everything okay?”
“Yeah, but last two weeks of school and then summer. Which means feeling too lazy to do those last pieces of work that get me into the 11th Grade” Ava groaned miserably.
“Just two more weeks baby” Elena smiled kissing Ava’s temple.
“Elena do my work for me” Ava begged.
“You’re a capable woman Ava” Elena reminded her stepdaughter.
“Fine” she grumbled.
Eating her cereal, she was joined by an equally grumpy Jesse and a very sleepy Noah.
“Do you want some of my fruit loops?” Jesse asked with a big yawn.
“Nah that’s alright, you want any coco pops?” she asked him.
“Just a spoon” he smiled dopily.
While he got his cereal, Noah glanced at them while eating his wholemeal ham and tomato sandwich with his favourite cheese.
“Those cereals have lots of added sugar in them y’know. You should eat something lo GI that has protein in it” Noah told them in his four-year-old “I know everything” tone before walking off to sit on the porch with their Dad.
Narrowing her eyes in confusion, Ava reminded herself that he was four and not 30. Then she turned to Jesse as if he had an explanation, which apparently, he did.
“He’s been watching the food network on his sick days” Jesse shrugged.
Elena loved the food network. It made sense.
Finishing her cereal, she went upstairs to throw on her jeans and Coca Cola t shirt and converse before heading to her mirror. She blended out her foundation and concealer before debating if he could be bothered with proper eyeshadow. Deciding she could not, she set her face with powder, bronzed her cheekbones and used the same bronzer for eyeshadow and contouring her nose before applying a nude lip and mascara. She almost forgot her highlight but then remembered that Katie was planning on polaroid’s at school today so she applied some.
She threw her books in her bag, her tissues and bounced her way downstairs before making her coffee.
“Well you certainly seem to be in much higher spirits” Elena smiled.
“All things are possible with coffee and mascara Elena, all things” Ava smiled back brightly.
“Wanna go and round up your siblings?” Her dad asked.
“Sure” Ava agreed. “GET DOWN HERE MY ARMY” she yelled at the top of her lungs making Elena and her Dad wince.
“I meant at a lower volume” Her Dad grumbled.
“There’s too many to find individually” Ava shrugged.
Just then, a mess of four children came hurdling down the hallway giggling and laughing while they raced each other to the front door.
“School drop off time. Alex and Levi, just where do you think you’re going?” Elena said in fake sternness with her hands on her hips.
Alex and Levi were meant to be waiting with Ava’s Dad. Instead they had their animal bag packs on and their jackets.
“They’re coming with us” Chelsea stated proudly. “I put their jackets on and Jesse got their bags Mom”
Raising her eyes to the ceiling, Elena sighed. “You can come to the drop offs but then we’re coming back home to say goodbye to Dad and the dogs”
Giggling victoriously, they all packed themselves into the car and drove off to school.
“Have a nice day. Two more weeks, that’s all Ava” Elena reminded her stepdaughter before driving off.
Groaning in despair, Ava turned and walked her way through school.
“Morning Ava” Monty smiled nervously at her.
“Morning Monty” Ava smiled back.
Monty was the socially awkward geek in her History class who seemed to have a crush on her. She wasn’t to alarmed by him, it was his friend Gavin, the extroverted creep who bothered her.
“Babe!” she heard the exaggerated happiness in the voice of Heather Wilson, the school’s very own demon, as she rushed over to very sloppily kiss her newest toy, Dustin Kirk. Dustin and Heather belonged to the popular kids of the school. While Ava wasn’t unpopular, she didn’t have the whole “queen” status going on for her. She noticed that some of the hockey players were present, bit early for them. She spotted Katie’s older brother and then she saw Shawn Mendes with his friends Cameron Dallas and Brian Craigen. They played on the hockey team and were kinda cute. His mom was friends with Elena and her Dad. Karen was a sweet lady. But then she spotted the one who made her heart stop. Jake Henderson. All 5ft11 of his blonde-haired, blue-eyed muscle. Snapping herself out of it before someone noticed her staring, she walked around their group and onto her friends.
“Hello Ava” Katie greeted. “How was the weekend, we didn’t see you at all”
“Talk about missing the fun” Leah grinned. “I don’t think Laura’s ever seen so many shirtless men in her life”
“It was a wonderful sight to behold” Laura smiled.
“How was games night?” Stacey smiled.
“Good, you know Elena’s parents, heavy on the food, heavy on the wine and heavier on the desert” Ava sighed contently.
“You know I swear you’re never happy without food in your mouth” Laura laughed.
“Food is good for the soul. And I need about all the soul I can get in these last two weeks” Ava muttered grimly.
As the girls continued gossiping about the latest party, Ava couldn’t help but feel she was being watched. She looked up to see the last person she was expecting to be looking at her. Shawn Mendes was watching her with an odd sort of gaze as he caught her eye. Affection? Admiration? It was strange. Suddenly she felt this odd sensation in her stomach and slightly dizzy. Before she could linger on it, the bell rang and their classes had begun.
SHAWNS POV
He was early to school today. Brian’s parents had taken his brother out of town for a specialist appointment for his little brothers hearing, so they were at school before the bell rang for once.
He was watching Heather and Dustin be their usual selves and then he smelt it. That same sweet smell he caught lingering in the hallways. Except this time, it was stronger, much stronger. Overwhelmingly so. It was all his nose could focus on. A cross between vanilla and baking sugar. He took a deep inhale and turned to his left. A girl walking by seemed to radiate the smell.
Mate. His inner wolf told him.
He suddenly felt dizzy, his hands were sweaty, his body was warm and he felt a tugging sensation at his stomach. The smell seemed to overpower all his senses as shivers went down his spine. Could it really be?
She was small and she had black hair. All he could see was the back of her covered by a denim jacket and a backpack. When she had sat down, she was against the wall and her could only see half her face. Caramel skin. And then by some sort of mercy she frowned. Was she okay? Was something making her sad? Then she looked up, right at him and he felt his whole world shift. He got lost in her brown eyes and he felt a drop in his stomach and a fluttery feeling. It was her. He had found his mate. She looked so familiar, but did he know her? Did she know him? He didn’t have a chance to linger as the bell rang and he was pulled in one direction whilst she was pulled in the other.
He had spent the whole day with his head in the clouds thinking of her and when he was leaving school, he saw her once more getting into a car with… no…Liam Beauregard? He was notorious for his womanizing ways. He didn’t do love or commitment. He was in simple words, a dog.
Walking his way to Jake’s car, he stared out the window in misery. His mate with another wolf? A deplorable one at that.
“Uhh dude, you getting out or coming home with me?” Jake laughed.
“Sorry man, see y’all at practice” Shawn grinned, shaking it off. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to tell his friend yet.
He was lying on his bed formulating a plan to murder Liam when his thoughts returned to her and all he could do was smile.
He had found her. He had found his mate. And she was perfect. Petite in height, quite slim from what he could see, not that he’d care if she was otherwise. Black hair, dark brows, chocolate brown eyes and caramel skin with plump lips. She was stunning. He wondered if she was Spanish or something. She definitely looked it.
Broken out of his thoughts by his Mom’s voice telling him to leave his bed and the sound of a car pulling up, he suddenly remembered his Mom telling him Elena Prescott would be coming over for afternoon tea today. Elena was one of the few wolves mated to a human in their pack. Her mate actually helped out by playing the role of pack doctor on Wednesdays. They were both nice people. Besides, Elena was Shawn’s favourite babysitter as a kid. He could ask her about her human mate bond. Rare but possible, as Shawn now knew. Or did he. Was she human? He didn’t have time to dwell as he trudged downstairs to greet Elena.
After saying hi and being told to make tea by his Mom, he returned to smiled at his babysitter who now had 5 children of her own now if he remembered correctly.
“Hey there Rockstar” Elena smiled.
“Ellie” Shawn smiled brightly at her.
“You and Aaliyah are the only ones to get away with calling me that”
“we were the best kids you ever babysat and you know it” Shawn grinned.
“Quite possibly” Elena avoided answering
“How are you kids?” he quizzed, genuinely interested.
“Growing” she said ominously. “and fast”
“How old are they all now?”
“Jesse’s five, Chelsea is three and Levi and Alex are 18 months.”
“Man, your house must be loud” Shawn laughed.
“You’ve no idea. The dogs are quieter than my kids and you can hear them bark from here” Elena said dramatically.
Suddenly Elena moved and knocked her keys off the coffee table which Shawn immediately picked up for her before spotting the keychain and the photo on it. Of Elena, her husband, her kids and Shawn’s mate.
“Ellie who’s the older girl? You’ve only got 4 four kids” Shawn observed.
“Oh, that’s Ava, our biggest ray of sunshine. She’s not much younger than you actually, Lewis actually had four kids from his previous marriage, she’s his third child and second daughter” Elena explained.
“Does she know about all of this?” Shawn asked.
“No, we agreed to keep her out of it until necessary” Elena said. “We’ll have to tell her eventually because of Jesse” Elena sighed. “Her best friend comes from a wolf family too actually, Katie Beauregard”
“Marcus’ daughter?” Karen asked.
“One and only, her and Katie have been attached to the hip since she moved her. More like sisters than friends those two are”
He couldn’t believe his ears. Elena’s stepdaughter was his mate. He’d hit the jackpot. He could find out everything from her.
“I feel like I’ve seen her before” Shawn muttered. “Does she go to my school or something?” he feigned ignorance.
“Year below you actually” Elena told him.
“Oh, well if ever see the two of you I’ll make sure I come and say hi” Shawn smiled politely before turning to his Mom. “I have practice now, I’ll be home for dinner, just later than usual. Bye guys”
Turning and running out of the house he walked his way to Kyle’s house two blocks over, smiling the whole way there.
Ava. Her name was Ava Prescott. The name suited her. Just thinking of her made him feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. He’d locked eyes with her for a split second but it was enough for him to know she was his mate. Beautiful chocolate almond shaped eyes and a gorgeous smile based off what he’d seen when she was dragged out by her friends, grinning at their enthusiasm. He didn’t notice much too overcome with his initial emotions and heart eyes.
He did however notice Jason Lewis eyeing her up like a piece of meat as she got dragged past him.
Asshole.
All Shawn knew was that he had to find a way to talk to her, get to know her and somehow manage not to freak her out in the process.
He was going to be with his mate.

No Surrender: Part 2
Part 1
Request: hey i love your writing!! i was wondering if you could write something where the ready and bucky are in the same hydra facility and try to escape together. idk maybe that’s bad but i love your writing!!
Pairing: Bucky X Reader
Summary: In the winter of 1945 Hydra captures Sargent James Barnes. After months spent unconscious, he wakes up in a cell with you and a new addition on his left side. Quickly it becomes clear that being locked up together may be the best bout of luck either of you has had in a while… Maybe together the two of you have a chance of making it out of this hell alive. Now, 69 years later the two of you are brought back together, scars and all. War changes everyone it touches but maybe, together, you can both find some kind of peace.
Warnings: Light angst, heavy emotions, that’s really it
A/N: Lol, one shot. I know better. This is prob going to be a 3 part with an epilogue. Why? Because this is A Few Marvelous Thoughts and that’s how things are done here. The stories are long and the writer is overly invested in ALL OF THEM. And, honestly, I kind of liked doing something that brought the Howlers into the mix and some Peggy and... yeah. I’m just enjoying myself. I hope y’all enjoy it too!

June 2014
You stare at your muted reflection in the airplane window tracing the scar on your cheek. It’s not quite as visible as it once was but you can feel it all the same.
Pulling your eyes away you check the screen on the back of the seat in front of you. One more hour until DC. It had been 69 years, what was one more hour… Still, you can’t keep your heeled foot from jiggling nervously.
Opening your iPad you look over the files Sharon sent you, thinking as you often do just how much easier this kind of tech would have made yours and Peg’s lives back in the day.
You wish Stark was here to give him shit for not coming up with this sooner. Thinking of your old friends always brings a sad smile to your face. Absentmindedly you fiddle with the dog tags and wedding rings always hanging around your neck from a long chain.
Steve and someone named Wilson had brought him in. Physically he was fine, some minor injuries but nothing to cause concern. Mentally… severe memory loss, disorientation, disassociation, PTSD, on and on. Quickly you scroll past it all, you didn’t need to read about it to know that a lifetime with Hydra could leave a person fractured. At the end was what you wanted. A photo.
He looked much the same. Dark hair and those spectacular blue eyes but… he was changed, even in a photo, you could see that. Really though you were all changed. Not one of you left that war or any of the ones that followed without wounds that wouldn’t heal.
Tenderly your fingers touch the image on the screen. You’re lost in memories of a day so long ago that the flight attendant startles you when she approaches.
“Sorry, ma'am,” she smiles brightly, “would you like another gin and tonic before we land?”
“Yes, please. Thank you.” It wouldn’t do anything to calm your nerves of course, but you liked the taste.
The first sip reminds you you’ll also need to see Peg… it got harder every time. Silently you pray to anything that will listen for her to be lucid so you can tell her you found him, finally after all these years. Sharon said that seeing Steve helped her, he brought back the old Peg. Maybe you’d get lucky. Though… guilt roils in your gut.
You’d spent the last couple of years actively avoiding Steve Rogers. All you could think was that you could only give him a story of regret, one more may have been. He didn’t need that. Something in your heart reminds you though, you have more than that to give him. Stories of his old friends no one else could tell. How the Howlers never forgot him, how every toast until the very end held his name… and Bucky’s. What kind of legacy he really left with the people that mattered.
A tear winds its way down your cheek and you dash it away. You’d make up for it now. Tell them both the rest of their story. Maybe it would be a comfort.
When the wheels meet the tarmac your heart lodges in your throat. You rush off the plane to the nearest restroom to inspect yourself. In the floor length mirror, you smooth a hand over your breezy white blouse tucked into a pair of camel high waist trousers. The slim straight fit showed off your figure just enough. To anyone, you would look like a woman in her early 40’s maybe. A few grey hairs, soft lines on your face, but still young enough and certainly not 94.
You take a shaky breath, reapply your red lipstick, and stride confidently out of the airport, ready as you’ll ever be.
From the outside, it looks like a nondescript, if not a touch run down, office building. You know it’s an old S.H.I.E.L.D. office. They’re holding him here, assessing him, trying to figure out exactly what to do in a situation that bucks just about every bit of protocol there is in one way or another.
“Thank you,” you say to the agent in the front seat.
Your accent had softened over the decades. This thought makes worry curl in your gut. The chances of him recognizing you are so slim. You were older, your voice was different… Hell, the report said he had trouble remembering Steve and they’d known one another their whole lives until the war. He’d only known you for a day…
“Are you ok?” The young man asks gently.
“Yes, sorry…” Your hand curls around the handle.
“Don’t know why they’re sending someone like you in with a monster like that. If you don’t wanna to go I’ll take you to your hotel or some-”
Your well-manicured hand wrapped around his throat cuts him off, “If that’s what you think that man is,” your voice a malicious purr, “I highly suggest you find a new line of work, boy.” You release him and go to open the door.
Turning back to him you catch his slack-jawed expression, “That man deserves your respect. Am I clear?”
“Y-Yes ma’am,” he stammers.
“Good,” you open the door and step out, strutting up to the building, adding just a touch of extra sway to your hips for good measure.
At the door, you push a button to activate the com, “Y/N Bernard, here for Sharon Carter.” There’s no response just a click.
As you enter the sparse lobby you hear the elevator ding, the doors swoosh, your body tenses on reflex. When a blonde with a bright smile exits though, you relax.
“Aunt Y/N!” Sharon calls, her tone full of excitement. She rushes you and you embrace your best friend’s favorite niece. “It’s so good to see you.”
“You too my darling,” you pull the girl back and look at her. So much like her mother but she inherited Peggy’s fire.
“Come on, let’s get started.” You follow her into the elevator.
As the doors close and the elevator moves down, you reach into your tote to pull out a small box, “I never forget, mon chaton.”
Sharon laughs, taking the box from you, “You didn’t have to.” She lifts one of the macarons out, taking a bite, savoring it.
“Bah,” you wave away her protest, “of course I did.” Every time you saw Sharon you brought her some. Her whole life.
She takes a deep shaky breath, closing the lid, “Thank you Aunt Y/N.” Tenderly you cup the side of her face with your left hand, she shakes her head, “I’m ok.”
“No, you’re not. Nor should you be,” you tuck a strand of hair behind her ear as the elevator settles. “I’m here for you, always, you know that?”
“I do.” The doors slide open and you follow your adopted niece out. Heart kicking up a notch.
Sharon leads you down a corridor to a conference room. A young man with a kind smile rounds the corner just before she opens the door.
“Hey, Sam,” Sharon nods at him.
“Hey,” he returns the nod. “You must be Mrs. Bernard. Sam Wilson, it’s good to meet you,” he extends a hand and you take it giving it a shake.
“It’s, miss,” you say smiling. “But you can call me, Y/N. Thank you for what you did.”
Sam shakes his head, “Just helping out a fellow soldier, no need for thanks.”
“You have it anyway,” you smile, liking this young man already.
Sharon opens the door and your eyes see, not initially Steve Rogers as you expect, but Tony Stark. Once he registers who you are his jaw hits the floor, eyes wide with shock.
“You look well Anthony,” a mischievous smile curls your lips, “certainly better than the last time I saw you.”
“How do you…?” Sharon, standing to your right, looks like she may not want to know the answer.
You laugh, “Oh no darling, nothing like that. I simply got Anthony here out of a pinch in where was it Morocco?”
“Monaco,” Tony says, smiling a smile that makes you think of his father.
“Ah, yes Monaco,” Sam rounds the table and takes a seat to Tony’s left. “You couldn’t have been 17. Pissed off the wrong person and landed in a cell.”
“And somehow you got me out. Though I was more scared of you than the cops after that verbal lashing.”
“That sounds like my Aunt Y/N,” Sharon says smiling.
Tony’s brows raise trying to work that one out, “But you never told my dad.”
“What point was there to tell, Howard? He would have just thrown some overblown fit. He loved to hear himself talk, especially when he was angry.”
Tony laughs, “You’re not wrong.”
“Sounds like you knew Howard well,” a voice from the back left corner of the room says causing you to jump a little. Steve Rogers is leaning there, arms crossed, face dark, watching you.
You swallow hard, “I did. I knew them all… very well.”
He saunters to the table, “So I saw,” slamming down a thick file before he takes a seat. You hold his gaze for a second. The emotion passing between the two of you beyond words.
“Ooook,” Tony breaks the silence and you turn to him a tense smile on your lips. “I’m assuming you’re some kind of super soldier too.”
You take a seat next to Sharon, across from Tony. “I wouldn’t say soldier but I am… enhanced. Much like Captain Rogers and Sargent Barnes. Only difference is I was never put on ice.”
“So you were born in…?” Sam is studying you with fascination.
“1920, I’m 94 years old,” he makes a whistling noise and you laugh.
The door opens and a slender brunette rushes in, “Sorry, had another fire to put out.” Agent Hill looks at you as you stand, “I’m-”
“Agent Hill,” you smile at her, “Nick spoke highly of you.” Your knowing gaze seems to convey that you’re all too aware that he’s fully alive. It would take a cataclysm to kill Nick Fury. Thank god for it.
“And you’re, Y/N Bernard,” her head shakes and an awkward smile curls her lips. “I never thought I’d have the honor.”
“The pleasure is mine, I assure you.”
She rounds the table and sits at the head opposite Steve, taking a deep breath. “Did you all start without me?”
“Nope,” Sharon slides a tablet to her.
“Good. We wanted to take a moment to brief you on the predicament we’re in, Ms. Bernard.”
“Y/N, please.”
“Y/N,” Hill smiles, “we think things are going to move quickly. The government wants to clean this mess up and do things under the radar as much as possible. That means we have to work fast to get our bearings and determine the best course of action.”
“Bearings regarding S.H.I.E.L.D. or Sargent Barnes?” You ask, tone even but suspect.
“Both,” Hill runs a hand over her face. “We’ve had Barnes for almost two weeks. So far they’re letting us hold him, mainly because no one else is equipped, but who knows how long that will last. Technically he’s considered a P.O.W. and Wilson is pulling any strings he can to sort that situation out. Get Barnes the care he deserves.”
You look to Sam, his eyes are on the wood of the table hands clasped in front of him. The Howlers would have liked this one. Out of habit you pull the necklace from your shirt and begin to fiddle with the contents.
“However, in the month since S.H.I.E.L.D. was exposed…” She clears her throat. You understand her pain, the thought that Hydra was so close… “Well, it’s become pretty apparent that there’s no rebuilding it.”
Sharon glances over to you. Slipping your hand into hers you give it a squeeze. Losing S.H.I.E.L.D. was like losing a part of yourselves.
“Stark has offered an alternative, kind of an official/unofficial organization,” Tony nods, “but that’s for another time. Right now we have to deal with the very real possibility of Barnes being put on trial.” Your blood runs cold, you release Sharon’s hand, worried you may accidentally break it.
“On trial for what exactly?” You spit.
Hill’s look is soft, sympathetic, “Anything they can pin on him.”
“That’s preposterous,” you try to take a deep breath to calm yourself.
“We agree,” Hill nods. “That’s why we’re trying to make sure we have anything we can to prove that whatever actions he partook in when he was with them was against his will.”
Her jaw tenses, “Agent Carter has implied you may be able to help with that. There’s not a lot on file about you. You’re officially listed as retired, have been for over 40 years. I’ve heard stories of course but…”
“I’ll tell you anything you need to know. Put me on the stand if you must.”
“Aunt Y/N, that would-” Sharon’s eyes are filled with fear.
“Expose me? I know, mon chaton, I know,” your smile is tender. “It doesn’t matter. For him, I would do anything.”
Hill goes to speak but Steve cuts her off, his voice low, heavy with emotion, “Why?”
You drag your eyes to the brooding Captain, “Because, Captain Rogers, 69 years ago Bucky Barnes saved my life.” Your voice cracks despite your efforts, “And he’s here today because of that.” Sharon’s hand rests on your knee, trying to provide comfort. She doesn’t know that some hurts are too deep for comfort.
“Thank you, Y/N,” Hill’s voice is soft. “If it comes to that we will talk strategy. How about we break for now. I need,” she rubs the bridge of her nose, “something.”
Everyone stands to leave. You direct Sharon to look after Agent Hill and go to follow them all out when Steve grabs your arm.
“I think we need to talk,” his blue eyes are stormy.
“I agree,” you look into the conference room.
“No, follow me,” he walks to the elevators without once looking back.
It’s possible that it’s the most awkward elevator ride of your long life. When the doors open he walks to the end of the hall, a door opening to a steep flight of stairs.
“Will those be a problem,” he glances down to your breakneck stilettos.
You raise an eyebrow at him, “You’d be surprised what I can do in heels, Captain Rogers.” He holds the door and you sprint up them, never teetering and not the least bit winded, smirking a bit at him as he comes up behind you.
Inwardly you thank god that he wanted to talk outside, you want a cigarette, desperately. Reaching into your bag you pull the pack and flick one up skillfully, pulling it out with red lips. He’s watching and you smile with the unlit cigarette between your lips.
“Want one?” You hold the pack out. He shrugs and takes one. You’re about to pull out your matches when he flicks up a zippo.
“Light?” You nod and he lights yours before his own. A smile plays on your lips as you try to think of the last time a man lit your cigarette.
He walks to the edge of the roof and sits on the low wall facing you. Taking a drag he finally speaks, “I never smoked before… this,” he gestures to his body. “So I never really knew what the appeal was but the motion is-”
“Soothing,” you finish sitting next to him. “I miss what nicotine used to do to me. Can’t tell you how often I have wished I could get drunk still. Never thought I’d miss a good hangover.”
He laughs a little, “Yeah.” The two of you sit in silence for a few minutes, lost in your own thoughts.
“What did you mean?” Rogers is staring off into the distance.
“Sorry?” You’re unsure what he wants you to clarify.
“When you said he’s here because he saved you… what did you mean?”
Your heart squeezes. Memories of that place, the sound of the soldiers coming, the bunker shaking, the look on his face as he shoved you into that crawl space… So long ago but it may as well have been yesterday.
Taking a deep breath you dive in, “Hydra captured me in January 1945…”
The two of you burn through two more cigarettes each as tell him your story. You keep the part about promises of dances and that kiss to yourself. Though your hand lingers near your lips as you remember.
“I crawled through that tunnel for what must have been a mile,” you take a drag. “When I finally got out I ran for two days until I came across a British camp. They thought I was Hydra with the uniform and all. I kept telling them, ‘My name is Y/N Bernard, I am French Resistance Lyon. I have a message for Captain America.’ But they wouldn’t-”
“Wait,” he holds up a hand, “what was the message.”
Oh. You had told him Bucky said find Steve and the Howlers but the message… You hold Steve’s gaze, “I was to tell you that it wasn’t the end of the line.” Somehow you had maintained composure through the whole thing but now tears spill from your eyes.
Rogers looks away, sniffing hard, wiping at his own eyes. His elbows rest on his knees and he laughs a bit, shaking his head, “It really was him then.”
“Oui,” you sit straighter trying to get a hold of yourself. “Of course they didn’t believe me. Threw me in shackles and transported me to London.” Steve’s eyes burn into you but you can’t look at him.
“Once there they locked me in an interrogation room for hours until they found, Peg,” your voice almost breaks but you push through it. “Since… since I was a woman and it had to do with you they thought she was best. I told her everything. Begged, cried, pleaded her to bring me to you, I had a message we didn’t have time…” Your hands are trembling with emotion, “Finally I just told her the message, just to pass it along. Lock me in a cell, whatever she had to do just to tell you.”
Finally, you can look at him, “That’s when she told me you had died. But she believed me, apparently, you had shared that pledge you and Bucky had with her.”
He nods and you press on, “She took me to the Howlers immediately. Said we had a mission. At first, they didn’t believe some broad but Dugan,” you have to take a breath, “he said that if there was even a chance we had to take it.”
“Sounds like him,” Steve smiles sadly.
“It does, yes,” your hand toys with the tags, “We left the next day.” You shake your head, the lump in your throat growing, “We weren’t fast enough… I knew we wouldn’t be,” tears stream down your face now.
“I failed him. He saved me and I didn’t make it back in time,” a sob tears out before you can stop it. You hadn’t ever told this story not the full thing… it felt like a special kind of hell.
Steve lays a hand on your back. You look to him, “We didn’t stop looking though. Every base, every agent, we tried to find something, anything, that would lead us to him. But… we never found him…”
“You were a Howler,” his tone is filled with respect.
You nod, “I was. Proud to be too.” You squeeze his knee, “They never forgot you, either of you.”
Tears sparkle in Steve’s eyes, “Did you know… when I… when I woke up?”
Shame rolls over you but you don’t look away, “I knew the day they found you, Fury called me…”
“Then why… I mean I know we didn’t know each other but… I,” he wipes his eyes and stands to take a few paces. “It would have been good to have someone who knew… what… what it’s like to…”
“Be so out of place?” He nods. “I know,” you look at the ground, tears streaming, “I’m so sorry.” You hold in a sob and try to compose yourself before looking up at him.
“All I could think was that I failed you both, that all I could give you were empty apologies.” He opens his mouth but you hold up a hand, “I know that’s not right… and I’m sorry. It’s a shit excuse, but it is the truth. I’d like to make it up to you if I can.”
Steve shakes his head, “You don’t have to make anything up. I understand.” A smile fills his face, “I’m just happy we have another Howler back where she belongs.”
Something between a laugh and a sob breaks from you and he holds out a hand. When you take it Steve pulls you into a bone-crushing hug. The two of you hold one another and have a good cry for a bit.
“Come on,” he pulls back, “let’s head in.”
You follow him back inside and he leads you to a different section than where the conference room from earlier was. Two guards, heavily armed, eye you as you pass through sliding bulletproof doors.
He pauses in front of a nondescript door and turns to you thumb nervously tapping on the handle. “This is just the monitor room but… do you want to see him?”
Your fingers freeze on the dog tags you’d been fiddling with and stare at him suddenly unable to speak. The obvious answer was yes but… what if it was bad… what if he’s feral or catatonic or- It doesn’t matter.
“Yes,” the word finally crawls from your mouth. Steve smiles opening the door, holding it to allow you entry.
Sam’s already there and gives you a warm smile, “I’ll leave you two.” He gives Steve’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze as he walks out.
There’s a man wearing simple scrubs sitting on a cot with his back pressed to the wall, head leaned back, a knee pulled up with his metal left arm resting on it. Music is playing from speakers you can’t see, he softly sings along smiling gently.
Your jaw hangs open. This isn’t the ghost you were anticipating. This is Bucky.
“He’s had a good day,” Steve’s voice reaches you but you can’t look away.
Composure leaves you. Doubling over as if you’ve been hit you weep, a huge smile on your face. Pressing the dog tags and rings to your lips you eke out, “He’s ok, Dummy. He’s safe. It’s over, Dummy.”
Steve doesn’t say anything for a minute then you feel his hand on your back, “It’s a lot I know. Here,” he gently lifts you and guides you to a desk chair passing you a box of tissues.
“Thank you,” you wipe at the mascara streaming down your face.
“I’m sorry but… did you say dummy a second ago?” He takes the seat next to you.
You smile, “I did.”
“As in, Dum Dum Dugan.”
Nodding you hold up the necklace, “My husband.”
“That has to be one of the first stories you regale me with,” Steve laughs.
“Deal,” your eyes wander back to one of the screens, fingers hovering over the image of Bucky. You can’t help but think of another cot in another cell. Snapping your eyes shut you remind yourself that this isn’t Hydra… well not anymore.
There’s a knock at the door, “Come in,” Steve replies. Sam and a woman you haven’t met enter. You stand wiping at your eyes a bit more, certain it’s all beyond saving anyway.
Steve introduces you, “Y/N, this is Dr. Laura Carr. She’s the psychologist taking point with Bucky, former S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Dr. Carr takes your hand, “It’s a pleasure.”
“Thank you for being willing to help him, Doctor,” you give her a warm smile.
“No thanks needed. It’s the right thing to do.” She laughs a little, “And I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was more than a little fascinated by the case.”
You like her honesty, “I think that’s a good thing. Curiosity drives us to think outside set parameters,” Sharon comes in as you speak, “and I believe you’re going to need that in this case.” Dr. Carr nods.
Steve looks back at the screen then to you, “Dr. Carr,” he throws her a smile, “do you think Y/N, here could see Bucky today?” Your breath catches and you swear you can hardly feel your heartbeat.
The doctor eyes you, “Sharon told me you two have a history, though she was pretty vague with the details.”
“My apologies, doctor,” you smile softly at Sharon, “the life I’ve led has made vague the default. Being with S.H.I.E.L.D. I’m sure you understand.”
She nods, “I do. It always made things more complicated when your patients couldn’t, or wouldn’t, tell you everything.” She takes a moment and looks to Steve, “You’re his medical power of attorney, if you trust her I would say that today would be fine. Though I will want to monitor the exchange.”
“I trust her,” some tension slides from you at Steve’s words, “I’m ok with you watching. Y/N?”
“Of course,” you nod. “But… there’s something I need to get first.” Confusion settles on the faces around you, “Just a promise I made a long time ago that I’d like to keep. Could I use your car, Sharon?”
“I can drive you,” she walks to your side.
“Fantastic!” You smile up at Steve, “I’ll be back in an hour.”
-
“Bread?” Sharon eyes the large french loaf you’re cradling as you get back in the car.
“Oui.”
“Not what I was expecting but… ok.”
“What were you expecting, mon chaton?”
She laughs, “I don’t know. Whiskey, brandy, lingerie.”
You laugh fully, it feels good after the weight of the day thus far, “I don’t usually prefer an audience when lingerie is involved, kitten.”
“Please, stop there,” Sharon’s face scrunches in mock disgust.
As she parks the tone shifts, “Will you be ok, Aunt Y/N… seeing him?” She takes your hand giving it a squeeze, “It’s ok if you want to-”
“My sweet girl,” you squeeze back, “I have not been this ok in a long, long time.” Sharon smiles and nods.
Back in the monitor room everyone looks just as confused when you enter with the bread. Steve is already in the room the two talking casually about something.
“You can go in whenever you’re ready, Y/N,” Dr. Carr tells you. “I thought it best to have Steve go in as a sort of warm up. Keep in mind he’s suffering from severe memory loss, he may not know you so don’t be put off by that.”
“I’ve grown strangely used to my friends not knowing me,” sadness flits across Sharon’s features, “doesn’t make me any less happy to see them.” The doctor nods and Sharon leads you down the hall.
The door is heavy, reinforced steel. She enters a code and does a retina scan before the locks give way. You had expected this to lead to the room but there’s just a hall. You go through two more less enforced doors before stopping at one that looks normal.
“You ready?” She asks you. Your grip on the bread tightens a little. The perfect crackle of the crust hits your ears and you know.
“Absolutely.”
“Well, it’s all yours,” she steps behind you, “just let me get past the last door then knock.”
As the door behind you closes you raise your fist, take a deep breath, and rap on the door. The metal tings and you realize that the normalcy is a bit of a front. A moment later Steve opens the door a nervous smile on his lips. He eyes the bread but doesn’t say anything.
“Buck, there’s someone who wants to see you if that’s ok?”
“Sure?” His voice hits you like a freight train. Steve leads you into the room, “Don’t know who would want-” His words halt when he sees you.
You press down the hope that rises in your chest. He doesn’t know you, the chances are too slim. He’s surprised is all, a new person, one he can’t remember wants to see him and he doesn’t know why. You tell yourself you’ve seen this before in Peg, Dernier, and Juniper. This is the same. Don’t get excited.
“Hello, Sargent Barnes,” your voice is soft, heart thundering in your chest. He stands slowly, those eyes you remember so well, studying you. You try to swallow the lump in your throat.
“I know this may be confusing. And that you likely don’t know who I am… That’s ok. I just… wanted to see that you were well and… bring you this.” Tentatively you hold the bread out to him. He takes the wrapped loaf and opens it.
You swear a smile is playing on his lips, “Bread?”
“Oui. I-I know it seems silly-”
“Did you fly all the way from Lyon to bring it to me?” The breath leaves you. Hot tears stream down your face instantly.
He smiles, that bright true smile and sets the bread down on the edge of his cot, “I’m glad you’re ok, Y/N.”
“Bucky,” your voice is thick with emotion. Without thought you fling yourself at him, wrapping your arms around his neck. His arms encircle you holding you tight. When you feel a tremor pass through him you realize he’s crying too.
“I’m so sorry,” you say over and over again.
“Hush,” he whispers, pulling back he looks at you. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”
“I do though. I wasn’t fast enough I-”
“Stop,” his right-hand cups your face. The silence hangs for a moment while you try to find your bearings.
“I don’t know how or why, but you were always one of the first things I’d remember when my memories would come back. Before they…” His whole body shakes and you know exactly what he means. “You gave me hope. Reminded me that there was no surrender,” his lips twitch up into a crooked smile and your heart clenches.
“It’s not from Lyon,” you give him a grin. “But it is French, thought you had waited long enough for some decent bread.”
He laughs, “Well, it’ll do. For now.”
Oh yeah, there’s more to come.

Investigated (1)
Pair: Miles Morales & Reader (you)
Summary: Y/n’s newspaper has gotten her fame even outside of her little school. Her articles on Spider-Man are usually well received, well until someone not exactly fond of the masked hero gets a hold of one of them. Now Spider-Man, who is actually the reporter’s boyfriend, Miles Morales, must find a way to save her before it’s too late.
[This is a short series that I’ve written. The “prequel” to this is called Investigator and can be found on my masterlist, but it isn’t needed to read this although it does give a lot more insight on the main character’s personality]
Warning: It gets pretty dark. If you can watch crime shows you should be good with this.
Dust and debris covered the surrounding area of the prison. Somehow someone managed to carry in multiple bombs that led to a huge hole in the wall that was supposed to keep the biggest crime lord in New York inside of. Guards held back the weaker and less dangerous prisoners, but that meant that they had failed to keep the worst at bay. Wilson Fisk was free and hungry for revenge on the person that started it all: Spider-Man.
The news stations went wild on Monday when it happened, but by Thursday only a few kept a note on the escape. And on Thursday a small newspaper from a Brooklyn school fell into the hands of a hiding escapee. Spider-Man saves the day once again! This particular article included quotes from the masked vigilante and extremely detailed descriptions of the fight between him and Hydro-Man. Fisk looked at the author of the article, Y/n L/n. “This girl can’t be him, but she knows who he is,” he concluded to his group of henchpeople. If he really wanted to get Spider-Man, then he’d have to fight ugly and that’s exactly what he planned on doing.
~~~
Miles held Y/n’s soft hair in his hands as she leaned against him in his dorm. “Do you think I could write about the best boyfriend in the world for the front page next week? Maybe how our six month-iversary is tomorrow?” She laughed, kissing him on the cheek. It was Friday now and about half a year ever since Miles became Spider-Man, but he knew that telling Y/n about it wouldn’t be good for her safety. Peter had said to him that he needs to keep the ones he loves safe so that he would still have the will to get back up again.
“You should probably stick to the opening of Slate tomorrow. Maybe you should practice your speech again.” Miles knew how important tomorrow was for her, with the opening of the project she had been working on for almost six months. S.L.A.T.E was an acronym for Students learning academics with technology and entertainment. The building was basically a place where students from anywhere in New York City could go and study, get tutoring, and use all different types of computers and other devices all for free. Tomorrow was the ceremony where it would be opened to the public and she’d been told that along with the mayor, she had to present a speech about it in front of a large crowd of reporters.
Y/n knew that this could be the biggest moment in her life and the first time she’ll actually get noticed by the big name news outlets. “I’ve practiced it enough, I just wish you could be there with me,” she looked at him somberly, slipping her hand into his own. He squeezed her hand slightly, kissing her on the top of her head.
“I know, but my mom isn’t gonna let me back out of babysitting my cousin no matter what I say,” Miles adored his mother, but there were times that she wouldn’t reason with him whatsoever. His mother and aunt were going down to New Jersey for the weekend to visit someone while he and his dad were stuck watching his aunt’s six-year-old. “At least my dad will be there on duty, but you’re coming over for dinner afterward and I’ll be watching on tv.” He always found a way to be there for Y/n and she couldn’t have asked for anyone greater than him.
A small smile grew on her face. Y/n checked her phone and the smile left, “my ride’s here so I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.” They kissed, this time for real, and Y/n left the dorm room with her suitcase. Weekends were annoying for the both of them since they lived on the opposite sides of Brooklyn and didn’t have a lot of time to see each other.
Y/n woke up the morning excited, yet at the same time completely filled with anxiety. Now, she stood in her school uniform, just as she had been told, next to the mayor of New York City behind a makeshift stage. Her speech was in her hands as she trembled slightly. Someone put her hand on her shoulder, “Don’t worry, kid. Everything’s gonna go smoothly,” she realized that it was the mayor, whose name she completely forgot at the moment, but it did help her a little bit.
They walked on the stage together, the crowd getting quieter. Y/n looked at everyone, from the men and women in uniform surrounding the crowd and the crowd itself, she felt herself getting nervous. There were men in suits on the stage behind them and she assumes that they were just for the protection of the mayor. She stood next to the mayor as he introduced everyone and the concept of s.l.a.t.e, it would only be seconds now until she had to start talking.
“It is with great respect that I introduce the student that was involved in the project from start to finish, Y/n L/n,” he stepped back as everyone clapped for her. There was a small stool behind the podium that she used to appear taller and actually be able to see above it. Y/n make eye contact with Miles’ dad, who was smiling back at her. He was the most excited when they started dating and whenever she would come over since she made his son so incredibly happy.
“Hi everyone! I’m not that great at public speaking, so try and bear with me for this one,” she stifled a giggle and looked down at the paper containing the speech, “People have always said how important is it for children and teens to be educated, yet many of those students don’t have the access to materials that give them the best education that they could possibly receive. Every student has the potential to be the next Tony Stark or Bruce Banner, but when they can’t explore that part of themselves, then the student that finds the cure for cancer in the future will never have the chance to make a difference. Without everything that my own school provides me, I may not have even discovered how much I adore journalism.”
It was hot out and Y/n felt herself overheating slightly, but she knew that she only had to talk for a paragraph. “That is exactly why I fought so hard to get this project in the eyes of people that can get things done. The future of America depends on the students that are forced to use technology from the past and this can be a little difference. I hope that-” she was almost finished when her speech was interrupted by a gunshot. The officers starting pointing their guns around at whoever had fired, while Y/n looked to her right to see the mayor holding his abdomen and falling to his knees. She hopped down from the podium and knelt down next to the mayor. “Oh my god. Are you okay?” she asked in a panic, knowing that she couldn’t really help him at all.
Y/n felt an arm wrap around her waist and was roughly pulled off the ground away from him. The person holding her covered her mouth with some fabric, with what she assumed was chloroform on it. She kicked him and tried holding her breath as much as she could, but she felt herself losing it and eventually passed out.
The crowd was chaotic. The police had apprehended the man that fired the gun and the mayor was being rushed to the nearest hospital to hopefully remove the bullet. Reporters were all turned towards their specific cameras and describing everything live as it happened. Nobody could find Y/n, but at least everything was recorded by the news outlets.
Miles started to panic as he watched everything go down in his own living room. The six-year-old with him didn’t understand what was going on and tried to get him to continue playing ponies with her by pulling on his pant leg while he tried calling her cell. The call went to voicemail, which he almost expected considering what he saw on the tv. He sat down on the couch, contemplating whether or not to call Y/n’s parents and tell them about what had happened.
He looked over to his suitcase, which held his suit. He couldn’t just leave this kid alone without getting a talking to by his parents, but at the same time, he couldn’t just do nothing when his girlfriend and just been abducted. He was Spider-Man and keeping the citizens of Brooklyn safe was his duty. Miles grabbed his suit and changed in his room, throwing sweatpants and a jacket over it. He picked his cousin up and ran over to the neighbor’s apartment to drop her off.
He quickly swung out of the building and headed towards the scene of the attack. Most of the civilians had scurried away, leaving the police and forensics teams to search the area. Miles walked carefully by the podium and caught his breath once he saw the handwriting of Y/n on the paper that held her speech. She was supposed to finish this. He folded it and slid it in his pocket before swinging away, afraid of being caught by his father that should’ve been there.
Mob AU- Random One Shot
TW for alcohol, sex mention, mentions of cannibalism, curse words
The clicking of glasses could be heard throughout the bar. Well, it could have been heard if not for the loud talking. Sweaty, hot bodies rubbed against each other on the dance floor. As long as you were moving it counted as dancing in anyone eyes.
Nyla sat in the corner, sipping on tequila. Usually, if she wanted to relax she would be in her gang's territory, in the bar she and her group owned. But she was not here to relax, she was here to work.
Even though she was constantly in danger of being found out, the flirting and kissing made up for it. Flirting, kissing, and even the occasional sex was just a tool to her at this point.
At the moment she was looking for a guy named Kevin. Kevin was a nice man. Kevin was the type of man to open the car door for a lady. Kevin was the type of man that even the most overprotective dad would love. It was a real shame, in Nyla’s opinion, that Kevin’s daddy wasn’t as nice as a man like Kevin.
Kevin’s dad was the type of person to poison your drink. Kevin’s dad was the type of person to kill innocents. Kevin’s dad was the type of person to kidnap girls off the street.
Usually, Nyla didn’t interfere in this type of stuff. Call her immoral but she had nothing to benefit from taking him down. But then a week ago a friend of hers from the Cartel called sobbing about how her friend went missing the other day and the police weren’t doing anything about it and she was so sure that Trent Wilson, Kevin’s dad, was the one who took her.
So that’s how Nyla found herself here, in a rather nice looking bar, watching the crowd. Her plan was to get him to take her to his house, knock him out somehow, and steal all the detail she could. It wasn’t a solid plan but the minute Sly told her that Kevin frequented the bar she made her way over as soon as possible. No one even knew she was here and that was sure to bite her in the ass later. At least she had her knife strapped to her leg. She pressed the drink against her lips as a shadow covered the table.
She looked up to see Kevin himself standing over her. A sliver of surprise went through her though she schooled her expression not to show it. It was usually her walking up to men and ladies, not the other way around.
He smiled, sitting in the seat across from her. She had to admit, he did look quite charming in his suit and hair slicked back.
“What is a little lady like yourself doing all alone?” He looked like a shark, his smile wide and sharp. Must run in the family.
Nyla smirked. This she could do. “Perhaps. Are you here to accompany me?”
“Let me buy you a drink then?.” He didn’t wait for a response, taking her hand in a fluid movement and walking towards the bar. She didn’t protest, walking with him. She could see that this was going to be one of her easier jobs.
The rest of the hour seemed to blend together. Between the flirting and drinking (though she’s only had a shot while Kevin had a few more) she found out a few stuff. She was certainly impressed. Either Kevin had a high alcohol tolerance or he genuinely didn’t know about his father's dirty work because he didn’t utter a word about his father. When she offered to buy him a drink, she slipped a sleeping pill in the drink. It wouldn’t knock him out immediately but it would be smart to get him to take her to his home.
“How about we take this somewhere more… private?” She giggled, placing a hand on his arm.
He grinned and the two walked out. She’s ridden in many limos before so this wasn’t new. Besides, she didn’t really pay attention to the ride because she was preoccupied with other things.
They soon got to the mansion. Mansions she’s seen, she’s seen a lot of them. Still, acting like she was in awe of the building played into her act.
He began to lead her to the door before she stopped. She dramatically sighed and grabbed her pockets. “I forgot my phone in the limo.”
He stepped forward “I can go get it for you.”
She shook her head quickly “No, I got it. You can go pour some wine if that’s fine?”
He nodded and went inside. She didn’t move until she saw him enter the house and then went into action.
The phone was actually in her pocket, obviously. She just needed to douse the rag she had with her with chloroform. She might not use it, though, seeing as the sleeping pill was taking effect. Still, this was her Plan B in case she gave too small of a dose.
She pulled the bottle out. It was quite small, holding just enough liquid to dose one rag before running out, but it did its trick. Chloroform was so strong that she felt dizzy just opening the cap. She hurriedly dosed the rag before throwing the bottle in the bushes.
She stuffed the rag in her pocket before making her way into the house. The hall was nice, even having a little coffee table near the stairs. There were various plants scattered throughout the room. It was quite big like most mansions were, and she was worried for a second that she wouldn’t be able to find the kitchen before Kevin walked out of a door. He leaned against the door.
She smiled, more like smirked, and made her way over to him. She didn’t say anything as she dragged a finger up his chest. The two stared at each other for a few seconds before Nyla places a hand on his check. The other held the rag tightly in her other hand, her body angled perfectly so that he wouldn’t see it.
“You know, I’m sorry for doing this. You seemed like a nice guy.” She tsked
Kevin looked confused. It was adorable. “What are you-“
The poor boy didn’t even get to finish his sentence. Quicker then a snake, she pressed the rug against his mouth and nose. His eyes became panicky and he grabbed her arm but the drugs were already starting to take hold and a quick kick to his groin area weakened his hold.
She smiled as she felt the fight leave his body until his body was on the floor, she kneeling against his body. She threw the rag a few feet away from her. It still had drugs on it and she didn’t want to pass out along with Kevin.
She stood up, adjusting her dress. He should be out for at least an hour, maybe more. That was more than enough time to find a computer in here.
She poked the body with her foot, one last test before she was satisfied and walked off.
The mansion was quite big and with no lights turned on, the darkness seemed to swallow her whole. The flashlight on her phone didn’t help at all, just casting shadows that seemed to be people. She’s never been a fan of the dark, her fear going past the age that people usually got over it.
She finally made it to what looked like an office. Turning the light on, though giving her light, would alert any other people in the house. She usually wasn’t this sloppy, stalking someone for at least a few weeks to see their schedule, but this was dire.
The office was fancy, most of the furniture was dark and smooth. It almost reminded Nyla of Winter’s office but theirs had knife scratches on almost everything.
She made her way over to the desk, rummaging through the drawers. She did find business books, detailing some funky business interacts. This might prove that he was selling the girls but it didn’t detail where they were. It was time to use the computer.
She turned on the computer, calling Ashe at the same time. It took three tries but the boy finally picked up, sounding disgruntled.
“Nyla, do you know how late it is?” He hissed.
“Besides the point, I need you to hack into this dude’s computer for me.”
“Where are you? I thought you didn’t have a job tonight.” Nyla heard him getting up which caused her to smile. She didn’t need to beg him to help her as she did with Sly. Maybe it was because Sly liked to hear the egotistical girl plead.
“At Trent Wilson’s House, 1393 Delaware Avenue. Pretty big mansion. Bigger than ours, in fact, took me forever to find the office in the house.”
She heard Ashe type away at his keyboard. “I’m assuming Winter doesn’t know you’re there?”
She winced “It was an on the whim decision, please don’t tell them.”
She heard Ashe chuckle “This is totally good blackmail material.” Before Nyla could retort he spoke again. “I’m going to need the IP address, can’t get into it without it.”
She rattled off the IP address and the two were in silence for a few minutes, only the clicking of Ashe’s keyboard being heard.
“Holy shit.” Ashe cursed
“What?”
“This dude is seriously twisted. I mean, more twisted than your usual mafia member. I think I’m going to be sick.” He muttered “What is it?” She snapped impatiently “This dude has pages depicting very vivid rape and stuff. I’m just going to skim through it, I don’t think I have the stomach to read it all. There’s even some cannibalism mixed in there.” A bad feeling started to stir in her stomach “But does it say anything about the girls?”
“The girls? What girls?”
“The ones I’m trying to find.” She stressed
“I’m not finding- oh wait! I didn’t find where they’re being held but a week from now there is going to be an auction. Doesn’t say any names but I bet you’ll find your girl there.” Ashe paused “That’s weird”
“What?”
“You said the guy's name was Trent Wilson right?”
“Yeah?”
“That’s not the name attached to this.”
Before Ashe could continue Nyla was pulled back, her hair felt like it was being ripped out. She let out a scream and reached for the hands holding her but they had a strong grip.
“You fucking bitch” Kevin. Wasn’t Kevin knocked out? It hasn’t even been half an hour yet. “I just got done throwing up. I’m fucking allergic to that shit.”
She whimpered, hitting the hand to no avail. Her head felt like a thousand tiny pricks were digging into it.
Kevin continued “I was supposed to drug you, not the other way around. Now I’m missing a meeting.” He tugged and Nyla cried out once more “Maybe I can take you tomorrow to make up for it.”
She was still scared but a little anger ran through her. She was not going to be sold like some slave. But the chances of her escaping at the moment were slim.
The knife. She completely forgot about the knife. It was time to act now or she might not get the chance again.
She threw her elbow back, worried that she wouldn’t hit his face for a moment. But his gasp told her that it did.
The grip on her hair disappeared and she felt like she could actually breathe. Her hand immediately went to her leg, taking the knife out.
She spun around, taking a step back to point the knife at him. Kevin was rubbing his chin but he was chuckling. She was confused, why was he laughing? But that didn’t matter now, she needed to get out of the house.
“You think you can actually get out of here alive?”
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes “I’ve had multiple people tell me this before. Besides, even if I die, my partner is going through all your dirty little secrets right now. Your dad is ruined.”
Kevin just chuckled more, making her more confused and angry. “Honey, my dad has been dead for a few years.” Her shocked face seemed to encourage him “Taking over his life wasn’t that hard. Dye my hair, put a fake beard on, and make my voice deeper and I have the act down. And sending other people to do the dirty work helps as well.” Her head was spinning and she shook her head, lowering the knife “No, that doesn’t make sense. I’ve researched about, I’ve watched you for a week.” “If it makes you feel any better, you’re the first and last person to know.” He gave her no warning before lunging at her again. She shrieked, stepping back and slashing at him again. It hit its mark, creating a cut on his arm. He hissed, stopping to grab his arm. She bolted out of the room, running down the hallway. The dark seemed to be much scarier without her flashlight. Plus she could hear footstep echoing behind her.
She made it to the front hall, the light in the kitchen still on. The front door was right there. She reached it and turned the knob but to her horror, it was locked.
“Did you think I was stupid enough to leave the door unlocked?” She heard him shout behind her, too close for comfort.
She fiddled with the knife, holding it in front of her again. He was in the doorway to the kitchen, the only exit besides the stairs. Stairs it would have to be.
She ran up the stairs, cursing herself for not getting more cardio. She raced into the first room she saw and found that it was a bathroom. It was quite small and would have been cute if she wasn’t running for her life.
She slammed the door behind her while locking it and began to rummage through the drawers. The doorknob jiggled “Don’t worry,” Kevin’s voice came through the door “I’ll wait. We’ve got all night bitch.”
She grinned when she found the scissors. Though she did have a knife, she planned on sticking the scissors into him and not taking it out.
She stepped back, looking around to see if anything else could help her. The shower curtain. Thinking fast, she ripped it down. Kevin slammed into the door, wood splintering. She heard him rear back and knew that this was her chance.
She unlocked the door and opened it, Kevin running straight into the bathroom like he hadn’t expected the door to be open. She threw the curtain right in front of his face and drove the scissors straight into his thigh. He screamed and she rushed past him, back in the hall. That should slow him down. Maybe.
She was near the bottom of the stairs when he reached her, slamming into her and knocking both of them onto the floor. “I was going to be nice, Nyla,” He got his hands around her neck as she tried to pull her legs up to knee him in the groom. “But you had to fucking play hard to get, just like they all do-“
She was starting to see spots but she didn’t really need to see to send the knife up his chin. He gurgled and his grip loosened. Blood splattered all over her, getting in her hair and everything. She struggled out from under him and quickly stood up, picking up a book from a nearby coffee table, which she proceeded to slam over his head.he sagged and tried to stand, pawing at his face, before she hit again. This time he finally collapsed.
She stood still for a minute, breathing heavily as she stared at the body. After she was sure that he wasn’t going to get back up she dropped the book on the ground, making a Big Bang. She pulled the knife out of his chin, cleaning it with her dress.
She was about to go out of the house before she remembered her phone that was still in the room. And if she remembered correctly, she never hung up on Ashe. She cursed, limping her way to the office. It seemed to take forever to get there and after picking up her phone to see that Ashe had hung up, even longer to get back to the front door. She was happy to see that Kevin’s body did not move.
Luckily, she was in the middle of a neighborhood. Still, it was almost 2 am and no one would be up. She sat down on a step in front of the door and phoned Ashe until he picked up.
“Nyla?” He sounded nervous and panicky “Are you ok?”
“If you count almost getting murdered as ok.” She grunted
“I’m coming over right now.” He said and she could hear moving in the background.
“Please.” She whispered and Ashe was on the phone with her the whole entire time until he finally arrived, wielding his own gun.
She nodded towards the door “The body is in the front hall.” She made to stand up and Ashe was quick to swoop in to help her. It was a little awkward, seeing as Ashe was shorter than her but they managed to work it out.
“We can get Tea to clean it up first thing in the morning. You look like you need some medical attention.”
“All I need is sleep, I just got tackled to the floor. A bruise or two and a limp but nothing bad.”
“That’s still kind of bad” Ashe pointed “But since Cameron isn’t awake at the moment, heaven forbid anyone is up, we can get you cleaned up in the morning. Just take a shower please.” At this point, the two were in the car and slowly driving out of the neighborhood
Nyla was silent for a few moments before she spoke up “Thanks for coming to get me.” She practically whispered, not taking her eyes off the window.
She couldn’t see him but she could practically hear him smiling “No problem.”
The two drove off into the night, completely unaware of the third presence in that house that night.
The person looked down at the dead body, thinly held disgust all over their face. They just lose one of their good men.
He whipped a phone out and dialed someone “I will need you to come to clean up a body at 1393 Delaware Avenue. Come quick, the killers will be back in the morning to clean up.”
He finished the call without any other words. He took one last look at the body and then left the house, making sure to close the door.
I Don’t Dance To Dubstep part 3 (A Deadpool Fic)
Part One, Part Two
Here is a deleted scene of dialogue for this chapter if you are interested!
A/N: Okay so the conversation with Cable about the scars isn't intended to be a metaphor for self-harm or hint at bad parenting. Instead, it is meant to be a metaphor for embracing ones perfectly imperfect flaws like stretch marks or cellulite or skin discolouration. In short, it's nothing ominous. Also, this is the longest chapter yet! And don’t mind the fact I inserted myself into the fic, he does like to break that fourth wall of realism that darned Wade Wilson! Readers mutant power given alter ego is DJ, so no ‘Y/N’ in this chapter.
Words: 2399
Warnings: Mature Language,
(Gif isn’t mine)
"Okay be honest, what would you want your stripper name to be?" Wade continued his useless musings with Domino over the comms.
"That's easy: Lady Luck," Domino said without having to think about it.
"Huh… I'd go with Shiklah the Divorcer, abbreviate it to STD." Wade said wryly. There was a larger story behind his words.
"What?" Domino asked, completely oblivious to the context of the STD jeer, although truthfully, no one else seemed to get it either.
"Are we all in position?" asked Wade over the secure channel. Your earpiece felt like nails on a chalkboard due to your ability to focus sound waves. Your head snapped to the side and you made a hissing noise. Cable, who had been partnered up with you shot a concerned look your way. You raised your scarred hands up to signal you were fine.
"We're in position," Cable answered, the feedback from your proximity to each other caused another intense soundwave to vibrate through you. You winced and decided to remove the earpiece. "Won't you need that?" Cable asked you.
You gave a half crooked smile, "That's what you're here for, isn't it? Kick ass, not take names and listen to Wade's annoying voice shouting profane nonsense into your ears?"
Cable hummed, unamused by the image you just painted in his mind, "Unfortunately," he said. He opened his fanny pack- Ahem! His utility bag- and grabbed his lip balm, applying some on with a very serious expression on his face while maintaining eye contact with you. It felt both intimate and weird all at once. You were definitely confused by it. According to Wade, he did that a lot.
You cackled in a dramatic fashion after the eye contact turned from intense to awkwardly silly, filling the empty street with a Wicked-Witch-of-the-West sounding laugh echoing through the empty street. Bored, you used your abilities to amplify the frequency, making the laugh boom louder.
Cable tilted his head as Wade undoubtedly had something to say about your use of your powers for no reason other than boredom, "Wade said to keep it down to the 'sexy octave levels of James Earl Jones'," Cable relayed to you.
You whispered "Fuck you, Wade Wilson," and amplified the sound of your words into an even louder pitch until the glass windows groaned from the intensity and Cable was forced to cover his ears from the sheer volume of it.
"That's not exactly keeping things discrete, DJ, might want to tone it down a bit!" Cable shouted in discomfort, his words drowned out by the frequency of your own.
"Yeah, well we've been sitting in this car park dressed like background characters of a Will and Grace special for two hours now. If she was indeed on her way here, she'd have been here by now!" You huffed.
The two of you were on rear exit duty. If Wade and Domino failed to trap and kidnap the new contract, the two of you would give her a rude awakening. To your annoyance, your target was uncharacteristically tardy today, so for now, all four of you waited, dressed in the most unflattering disguises, staying incognito while stalking around the building your target regularly frequented. It was a Chinese restaurant that acted as a front for an illegal underground gambling ring. Your target was a pill pushing 'Madame' who had a habit of gambling away half her profits.
Cable closed his eyes and leaned against the hood of the car you drove in, it was a taxi, Deadpool had called up his pal Dopinder, who was out on a coffee run, to drive the four of you to the location. You sat cross-legged, shades shielding your eyes from the sun, on top of the warm yellow hood, there was an odd impression on the opposite side of the bumper that looked like the kind of mark someone who had been run over would leave.
Cable was taking slow, thoughtful breaths, not at all bored by the inactivity. You had noticed he always carried a teddy bear everywhere with him, it was quite the juxtaposition to his otherwise serious, brooding default setting. Letting curiosity win over you, you blurted out: "What's the deal with little Osito there?"
Osito was Spanish for bear. You had grown up in a bilingual household. Your mom was the one who prominently spoke Spanish at home, you had an easy time picking it up as a kid.
"What's the deal with the scars on your hands?" He asked, deflecting his personal question by asking you a personal question of your own. Smartass. He thought he had the upper hand, he assumed you wouldn't be comfortable talking about your scars, everyone always assumed that. He was in for a rude awakening!
"Casualty of being such a badass!" you quipped playfully. Cable gave you a small chuckle making you feel like you had just paved through a new milestone in your… acquaintance-ship?
"Is that so?"
"I managed to bring the great Cable to his knees on our first meeting, so yeah, I say so," you smirked proudly at him and he scowled.
"As a kid, my parents didn't understand what I was. I didn't either. I'd cause small quakes when I was angry or sad or happy or excited. Murdered a lot of Mom's fine china. Busted Dad's TV once. Eventually, they couldn't pretend anymore, and I saw how much I scared them. I scared myself if I'm honest. They told me to be normal, stop with all my craziness. I didn't know any better, I didn't know my abilities were as much a part of me as the colour of my eyes or the slant of my nose, so I repressed it. These-" you rotated your hands this way and that, giving Cable a show of spirit fingers, showcasing all the scars and tears from years of cuts and numerous surgeries, "These were the resulting effect. I broke many fingers. Some cases the waves would slice through skin. After my eighth break, I said 'Fuck it!' I began to use my abilities freely and openly. Of course, I was smart enough to know when to be discrete and when to wreak untold havoc upon some asshole who groped my ass in high school. And I haven't looked back ever since."
You had shocked Cable with your candour. You never minded explaining the scars, they were just younger versions of your many battle wounds. They made you what you are -which may not be perfect, but you couldn't give a flying fuck if you didn't conform to societies controlled demographic of normalcy. You were a rebel all your own. You gave Cable a wink, not at all shy or embarrassed that you just spilt private secrets so nonchalantly.
"Jesus," he said, only with less sarcasm then you ever thought him able to muster. "Did you kill him? The Asshole in high school?"
You laughed, amused at his question. He must think you some sociopath. Then again with an apathetic partner like Truth Dog and a habit of shooting up Wade all the time, he might not be wrong. It was still fun though!
"No, I didn't kill him. I used my sonic frequency to shatter all his trophies the school displayed in the trophy case. I may not have seen it, but I know he cried afterwards. Murder isn't the only solution you know. Some days you just have to find what stupid, materialist things people associate with their self-worth and-" You focused a low-frequency sound wave on the car and the window glass shattered in your demonstration, "Apply enough pressure!"
"My CAR!" Dopinder whined from behind you as he raced over to the taxi with his tray of coffees.
"Whoops!" You whispered before pointing nonchalantly to Cable, "He forgot to set his gun to stun. He sneezed and it just went off. Be glad he hadn't had the dial turned up to 11!" You blatantly threw Cable under the bus. He didn't say anything, but you could feel his cool eyes staring at you in less than amused mood. You giggled playfully.
"Yeah, well I hope you can pay for this Mr Cable, because I already have that dent to get out from Mr Pool's joyride when he was drunk that one time and decided to go all GTA on everyone," Dopinder said in his accented tone.
"Put it on my tab," Cable growled, causing Dopinder to gulp, a bead of sweat gathering above his temple.
"On second thought, I'll just put it on Mr Pool's tab. Since he'll… you know, need to use my cab again."
"Did you say something, Mr Roboto?" You heard Deadpool coo over the earpiece at Cable.
"Your coffee is here," Cable said. Through the earpiece, you heard Wade make an excited squealing noise and what sounded like Domino sighing heavily.
Some seconds later, Deadpool and Domino came repelling down a pipe from the roof and rushed over to get their coffees from Dopinder. Domino chose to wear her hair in stylish Bantu Knots, she had said it was a bad hair day, but she looked as flawless as ever. You were afraid you might be in love with her, or maybe it was her hair or the fact she had heterochromia, or at the very least you were maybe little too obsessed with her outfit! Who cared, Domino was plain freaking awesome!
"Give me that sugary goodness," Deadpool said as he kissed Dopinder through his mask and reached for his coffee. He took his mask off halfway, exposing his mouth, and sucked down dramatically on the frothiest, most hideous excuse for a coffee you had ever seen.
Domino grabbed her macchiato and Cable his latte, you were surprised someone all dark and brooding and serious like him would drink anything with milk in it. You grabbed your cappuccino and thanked Dopinder who was drinking a milkshake.
"What the FUCK is this?" Deadpool asked after he finally finished taking his first sip, more like chug. "This isn't the Caramel Macchiato, Venti, Skim, Extra Shot, Extra-Hot, Extra-Whip, Sugar-Free coffee I ordered!" He bellowed loudly.
"Are you sure that thing is even classified as coffee anymore?" Domino quipped after taking a sip of her macchiato.
"Are you sure that thing is even classified as coffee anymore?" Wade mimicked like a four-year-old brat.
"Whatever," Domino said raising her hands in the air and rolling her eyes.
"The real question is: Where is this easy target and big payday you promised me?" You inched closer to Wade with a look that could kill. You blew air in his ear and amplified the inaudible frequency so that it damn near scrambled his brain. He squalled like a crying child with colic and dropped his Starbucks cup, foam and syrup and what little actual coffee there was in it splattered on the hood of the car coating everyone in the sickly sweet liquid except for Domino, by some unfair miracle.
"That's just fucking great!" Cable said in annoyance as he used his free hand to wipe away the frothy foam that covered his chest. You did the same and licked some of the foam off your finger, all the guys ogled you like you were some damn peacock.
"Men!" Domino said in disgust. You giggled as the gleeful feeling of dominating power coursed through you.
"To answer your question, Carrie White," Wade was referring to you.
"Carrie had telekinetic powers, Mr Pool, wouldn't it make more sense to call her Abra Stone, I'm pretty sure if she tried DJ could generate an earthquake too?" Dopinder asked innocently.
"No, Dopinder, what would make more sense would be to call her Black Canary, but given as how that is a completely different comic book universe and the fact that whoever thought up DJ's powers was an unimaginative lout who couldn't think up something cooler than sound manipulation and also thought DJ was an intuitive play on words and abilities, no, I do not think it would be better to call her Abra Stone. Shockwave maybe... but that’s trdemarked by Hasbro, so," everyone looked at Deadpool in confusion. "Anyway! I'm pretty sure she'll show up any minu-" Deadpool was interrupted by the sound of his phone receiving a message.
"Whoops, Ha-ha, forgot to put that on vibrate," Wade wiggled his eyebrows which strained against the tight fabric of his mask, "Ah, it's Weasel, apparently Madam Mayflower… Pffft- Mayflower! Anyway, apparently, she's not coming. She's going somewhere else today. Oooh! It's a Burlesque Club!"
"Well, what's the fucking plan?" Cable asked showing signs of impatience for the first time.
Wade looked over at you, Cable and Domino, his eyebrows clearly raised in mischief behind his mask.
“Now Madonna, Cher and… The Jackson Five,” he pointed to each of you, assigning you with the corresponding singer’s name.
Domino rolled her eyes at being designated as the entire music group of the Jackson Five (it was no doubt a play on the fact she usually wore her hair in an afro).
Wade made sure he used his most diva emulating performance to sell his pitch, “Put on your favourite dancing shoes and wear your skimpiest outfit. Because ladies, we’re going to put on the best burlesque show of our lives!”
“Jesus,” Cable grumbled. You noticed he did that a lot. You wondered if it would ever stop being comical and turn annoying.
Domino raised her hand.
“Yes, Jackson Five?”
“Which 80′s singer are you in this scenario?”
“Why, the legendary Dolly Parton, of course!” Deadpool said gleefully
"What about me Mr Pool?" Dopinder asked feeling a little left out.
"You are Driving Miss Daisy, now common let's go," Wade walked in imaginary heels and sauntered like a runway model to the front seat in the cab.
"That's not even a singer," Dopinder said with a frown.
"Hey, at least you aren't given the title of an entire music group just because of your hair!" Domino said in deadpan.
"Nah, he just got stereotyped as a slow cab driver!" You chimed in before taking your seat in the middle of the cab.
