Ok yay I'm back from my vacation yipeeeeeee. I started this drawing of Keiki before I left and I was half considering just giving up on it.... until I did a short study of facial planes and then got motivated to work on this again! I'm glad I didn't give up on it though, as I'm actually really happy with this one!
Artist's Notes;
So as I mentioned in my last post about Touhou 17, I wanted to finish this by the game's five year anniversary but with how progress was going I didn't want to rush this so I decided to take a long break from it. Mainly because of the face. For a while now I was kind of feeling like I was stagnating with my drawings, not really in the clothing but in the bodies. There was something about the way I was rendering them that I just wasn't happy with, and after talking with someone else about this issue, I realized that the reason I felt this way was because the faces were too flat and didn't match the rest of the drawing and that I needed to find a way to make the rendering of the face feel consistent with everything else. So after doing a short study of the plains of the face (I used this 3D head model from art station as a reference for my short study, please go give this person some love as they are a lifesaver) I went back into this drawing and applied what I learned here. It was only after that that I finally became motivated to finish the piece, and while it started off as just a simple character sketch like Saki and Yachie's were, the moment I added in Keiki's little fire dragon I knew I had gotten in too deep and now here we are with a full on background. OK it's not super crazy or anything, but it gets the job done and it's better than there just being an empty void behind her. It's rare moments like this when I use brushes other than the Clip Studio Default Charcoal Brush and use the Clip Studio Default Paint Brushes as well (god bless the oil paint and dry gouache clip studio brushes, they were amazing). I don't know why but painting fire has always been really fun for me, there's something oddly satisfying about it y'know? I do think that another reason for this problem was because I was drawing faces like I would in my more sketchy style that didn't mesh well with my lineless style, so I'm glad I've started remedying that.
After adding in the fire dragon I had an idea to kinda make it feel like splash art in the way the composition works... probably because I have been playing Reverse 1999 again and it has taken over my brain. I do feel like Keiki's tools get a little lost in the composition, and I didn't fully render the metal parts of them mainly because I didn't feel like they needed it, but that's just something for me to improve on later down the line.
If you guys are wondering where I went for my vacation, I went to New York and got to go to the MET and the Museum of Natural History. In both places I found Kofun period stuff and I was so happy to see it you have no idea. I remember one of the Haniwa I saw had some neat face paint under the eyes that I tried to replicate with the makeup under Keiki's eyes in my drawing, though I think I'll gave to figure out how to draw makeup on characters because this reads more like blush to me than anything. While drawing this I also looked up some references of Kofun period jewelry and really liked the stuff I found, which also meant that now she has proper Kofun earrings instead of earrings shaped like Kofun tombs. I put some of the things I referenced with a closeup of Keiki's face as well down below. I made her outfit more reminiscent of the outfit I gave her at the beginning of the year with the buttons and all, though I do want to try and draw her in some more period accurate clothing like the Haniwa I took a picture of at the Museum of Natural History. I wish I could find a way to make her handercheif look better though as I wish I made it a little bit bigger, though I think I'm saying this because I've looked at this drawing for too long lmao. Once again something to work on for when I next draw her. Also want to get better at rendering hair, as some details (like the little strands in front of her ears) kinda got unreadable due to the similarities in colour lol.
Now you may have also noticed the little cracks I added onto Keiki's face, and that's because I have fallen in love with the idea of Keiki's body being made from ceramic and that she crafted her body herself. While they aren't very visible I also tried to add some doll joints to her body, which is an idea I played around with in the past but never went to far with. I also want to get better at rendering cracks in ceramic, porcelain, etc, as I'm not sure how those read in the drawing. I also have a headcanon where the cracks in Keiki's face show up because of heightened emotions, and while Keiki is aware of this and does her best to make sure her face doesn't break off.... she will still end up with at least a few cracks during any given day, and she can often forget to repair her own body quite frequently so Mayumi has to remind her quite a lot. Mayumi even taught herself some basic sculpting techniques to help repair parts of her body that are so badly damaged to the point where Keiki can't repair them herself, i.e. if both her arms broke off, Mayumi would put them back together for her so Keiki can at least have something to repair herself with rather than nothing. I also like to imagine that if Keiki created her own body, if you took a look at Keiki from the beginning of her life she would look completely different compared to now.
BTW If you guys are wondering what a very very angry Keiki looks like....ok in order for this to make sense have any of you read volume 11 of Land of The Lustrous? Am I bringing back some memories for those of you that have? Ok good, glad we all got that mental image brewing in our minds, I'll probably draw a version of Keiki that is somewhat inspired by that one day as it's an idea I've had for a little while now. And to those who haven't gotten to that volume yet and are confused.... don't worry about it, just keep reading :)

First date.
A fully rendered background?! From me?!
This one wasn't meant to be fully rendered but I discovered grayscaling and this is what you get... a rare W from me
Headcanon: I honestly don't remember if Rick gave percabeth an official first date on the books but here's my take on it: Percy took Annabeth to the aquarium (not before consulting Sally and Grover and probably even Chiron and even making offerings to Aphrodite and Athena and Poseidon to PLEASE just let them have this one)
Halfway through the date Percy is hit with the anxiety of "is it weird that I basically took her to watch my dad's subjects?!" but Annabeth finds herself falling in love again by listening to Percy rant about the fishes and talk to them behind the glasses. She's usually the yapper between the 2, and she loves hearing his voice when he's passionate about something. She pulls him in for a kiss and it catches him off guard but he kisses back, before proceeding to almost destroy the aquarium via water out of sheer excitement and happiness.
Annabeth never lets him leave that one down.

Welcome to the next edition of Jen's meta ramblings
I have watched the movie at least once a day since it came out and I kid you not, I see something new every time. The fact that this is Matthew López's first directoral debut is just... I'm in awe. And you can tell how much he loves the story because of the way things like this are set up and played out
In the novel, Henry and Alex are skinny dipping in the lake at night, and so I absolutely got the change in both time of day and also attire. But let's talk about that little island shall we?
No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea
Every single one of us is not meant to be alone, without connection and without a link to someone else. We are parts of a whole and if we lose that... well. It's not good.
Henry is on that island, our prince who belongs to Britain and Henry Fox who thinks he has to belong to himself. The prince is forced into status and circumstance, of appearances and mindless ribbon cuttings. When he does something that means something - like the trip to the cancer ward - then he doesn't do it with cameras. I'd argue he's not the prince there, he's Henry Fox. The man who lost his father to cancer.
But this is not that meta.
Henry has shut himself off, shut himself away. He doesn't date the people he's interested in, he doesn't live his truth (and for very good and valid reasons). He has decided that while Prince Henry belongs to Britain, Henry Fox is an island.
And look who is swimming up to that island. Look who is coming out to Henry, having realised the night before that oh yeah, I do feel forever about him and so Alex swims out to that island.
And the first thing he does? He makes Henry laugh. He is silly and fun and the complete antithesis of the composed and collected Prince of Wales. And then he joins Henry, on his island.
This gorgeous overhead shot shows us that Alex is putting himself on Henry's right (protocol or his good side?) but he's also in the centre of the island. He's not on the edge of it. In the metaphor of Henry Fox's island, Alex is putting himself at the heart of it all. RIght before he lays out his heart to Henry.
The shot that broke our hearts too, along with Henry's. Because we can see the shore in the background now. We're reminded that islands are not - they cannot be fully independent. People cannot be islands and even though Alex is literally and metaphorically planting himself at Henry's side, Henry knows that this island he's formed for himself in his heart and his sense of self cannot stand if Alex is there. If Alex is with him then he is no longer an island. Henry Fox will not belong to himself and the sense of protection and self-preservation we see coming out in the Storming of Kensington is under threat.
So he bails.
The island is submerged, like the mythical Atlantis, because how do you render land useless? Drown it. How do you deal with water? Drain it away. He abandons his island and flees back to the only other space he has left - Kensington Palace - in an attempt to regroup. He drains his life of Alex and what he brings. He has to return to being the Prince of Wales because Henry Fox got too close. Because Henry Fox realised he was being loved by a man who would literally swim out to where he is.
Moment of appreciation for the shot. Matthew, you have a fucking talent and I cannot wait to see what else you do. Because our #imtaller boy looks so small here. So lost. When else have we seen someone look so small and lost?
Oh. Yeah.
When he's curling in on himself in an almost last-ditch attempt to protect himself and his boundaries from what is coming. You can see that he's no longer dry, that Alex's "shower time" has changed him. Alex brought laughter and love and water onto his island and Henry has just realised what this means. This isn't a visitor's visa. This is immigration.
Which is what makes THIS so much more. Back to our boy, drenched from the storm, plaintively asking Henry to talk to him.
Because yes, the Storming of Kensington happens during an actual storm, but by now you know I overead into everything... so once again we have Alex "swimming" out to Henry. He's dived right in and gone are the jokes, gone is the humour. He is here and he is asking to be let in and daring Henry to send him away.
This is Alex, serious and in love and following Henry to whatever landmass he is setting foot on. Henry is trying to be an island and Alex is out here going, "I'll just build another boat you fucker". A true 'ship if you will. He swam out to an island on a lake, he flew to a tiny island across an ocean. He is standing at Henry's borders and he isn't launching an offensive. He's just saying that if Henry wants to be cut off from everything then he needs to do the cutting himself.
Prince Henry felt like he belonged to Britain, Henry Fox felt like he had to belong to himself, and Alex turned up and went "nope. Mine now". (Insert additional historical quip about the English being colonised for once.) But there is still some truth in that: the Prince is part of England, and we should all belong to ourselves even in relationships. Henry just learns that the different parts of him can co-exist. Bit like how water and land can co-exist without one destroying the other.
Henry is Alex's North Star but he's also his solid ground. Insert quip about Alex colonising Henry and claiming him for his own, planting of flag, your innuendo of choice goes here. Pyramus wished there wasn't a wall - Alex straight up scaled Henry's.
There's a divergence between Prince Henry and Henry Fox, but at the heart of them both there's Henry. And this is the man that Alex sees, this is the man that Alex loves. Alex swims out to the island for Henry Fox, Alex pushes through the rain for Prince Henry. Alex holds steady in the storm of talking with King James/Queen Mary and the public.
And it started with Alex literally making his way out to Henry on an island: be that England for the Royal Wedding, a pontoon island on a lake, or knocking down Henry's walls.
To this moment. Which is very hard to grab a screenshot of, but Alex asks Henry to "take a walk" with him. This time it's Henry going to/with Alex. The fact that he's there is one thing (and a rant rather than a meta) but at this point they have each other. They belong to each other. Where one of them goes, the other one follows. Independent, together, co-existing.
Anyway. I'm sure there will be more bullshit ramblings and metas at some point. Follow me if you want more of that (but be warned: blank and empty blogs are blocked on sight) because we are not islands in this metaphorical storm of life. Let us swim out to one another, dry off with one another, and live a life with broken down borders and walls.

Happy new year! 🎉
I’m a little nervous charging this much after prices have been fairly low for so long but I felt like I was deeply undercharging, especially for bigger and more complicated pieces/character designs. And since it’s the new year, I figured I’d do em now :) There might be adjustments later on for things like additional characters or backgrounds, but with work around the corner and eventually losing a lot of the time I would normally dedicate to commissions, I felt more comfortable sacrificing the frequency of them if it meant I could be paid more for it.
As for other changes, I wanted to introduce a rendered color option for customs. Commission quality coloring and getting a character designs for you, it seemed like a great idea 😌 I also now take Venmo as a payment option since I got it set up months ago so if you prefer that, go for it!
I’m still doing the 5 slot system but they might be the only slots I’ll be taking around February when commissions become a lot more scarce. I will say though that large payments (like $300+ in the rare case anything EVER goes that high) can be separated out into smaller payments, you just won’t get the file until it’s fully paid for.

Rebelcaptain Fluffbruary: Day 28
for the prompt "Shelter" interpreted quite loosely because I just wanted to write the specific scenario in my head
The underground bunker is a shelter, Jyn reminds herself — not a prison. It’s not Lah’mu, waiting for someone to come save her, the memory of Mama falling in the grass still fresh on her mind. She’s twenty-two and she’s a soldier, not a frightened little girl scared of the dark. There are lights here, there’s Cassian here…
Even if Cassian continues to ignore her under the guise of cleaning his blaster. He can’t hide his frustration as easily as he can avoid looking at her. It’s in the stiffness of his movements, the tightness of his jaw, the tension in his posture. It’s in the way he handles his pistol, rougher than usual. The permanent frown etched onto his lips is different than the one he normally wears; it’s not just his resting face, it’s real. Though he won’t say it, the disapproval is radiating off him in waves.
Well, fuck him too. If he thinks she’s going to apologize for anything, he’s got another thing coming.
Good, that’s good, Jyn tells herself, focusing on the burning embers of her anger, rather than the icy fingers of her past. Something to distract her. That fire has kept her marching for two decades and will keep her going for longer if she has anything to say about it.
Throwing one last spiteful glare in Cassian’s direction, she turns towards the hatch above and listens for any sign of life outside, but she can only make out the steady pitter-patter of the rain.
It’s been… what? Three hours now? Those troopers must have given up looking for them.
“I think they’re gone,” Jyn says without withdrawing her gaze from the hatch.
“We should wait a few more hours to make sure,” comes Cassian’s response, smooth and even. You wouldn’t notice how tightly he’s grasping at his self-control with both hands unless you knew what to listen for. “It’s dark outside anyway. We might as well spend the night and leave as soon as dawn breaks.”
There’s one rickety old bed propped against the wall with a single pillow and sheets with suspicious dark patches that look like dried blood, but it isn’t the state of their accommodation that bothers her about the idea. It isn’t even the fact of being underground and in half-light.
She simply cannot take another second in his presence like this.
Jyn’s silence stretches on, but she doesn’t have to voice her displeasure for Cassian to know it. She can practically hear him raising his eyebrows at her in a challenge. “You have somewhere else to be?”
“Anywhere not here,” Jyn says through gritted teeth. It’s a quiet thing, not meant for him in particular, but she knows he heard it anyway.
He doesn’t respond. In the background, she can hear him continue tinkering with his blaster (it’s fucking clean, for star’s sake!), and something in her just snaps.
Shouldering her backpack, she climbs up the ladder and opens the hatch.
“Jyn!” Cassian calls after her in alarm, but she’s not listening. She can make it back to the ship just fine on her own. He can come if he wants; if not, she’ll just wait for him there in the morning.
The rain has picked up from a light drizzle to a heavy downpour, and she’s soaked before she even fully makes it out of the bunker. But she’s not that easily deterred. Jyn straightens, squinting against the heavy sheet of rainfall into the darkness of the night around them. There are no headlights tearing through the trees, looking for them, no chatter between troopers as they trek through the woods, no squishy footsteps in the mud.
They have long abandoned their hunt, Jyn’s sure, and if they haven’t, they surely would now. Visibility is low in these conditions, rendering a search party virtually pointless.
Cassian, carrying his own larger backpack, emerges from the hatch hidden on the dirt floor.
“Where are you going?!” he calls out to her, trying to out-yell the storm raging around them. Thunder grumbles overhead, and a flash of lightning illuminates the forest for a fleeting second.
Shivering, Jyn begins to walk towards the direction of their ship. “They’re gone, Cassian.”
“It’s pouring!” He follows after her, though not before covering the entrance of the bunker with leaves and dirt.
“So what?!” she yells back as he hurries to catch up, but she’s aware she’s being slightly unreasonable. The stupid storm just had to pick up, didn’t it? Well, too bad, she’s not turning back now. “Let’s just get back to the ship and go.”
“This is ridiculous.” Cassian, finally close enough to touch, grabs her elbow to bring her to a halt, and it’s a testament to her respect for him, even still, that all she does is yank her arm out of his grip and glare at him with the fiery rays of the sun instead of breaking his nose.
“No, you're ridiculous!” Great comeback, Jyn. Now you’ve really told him.
He positions himself directly in front of her in an attempt to keep her from advancing and pushes his sodden hair out of his face.
“Jyn, you’re gonna get pneumonia. Let’s go back to the shelter.” His words are stronger than a suggestion, but not quite a command. Still, something in her burns with righteous fury.
“I don’t have to follow your orders,” she snaps, and his eyes darken with the echo of their previous argument. The real heart of the problem.
“I’m not just your friend, Jyn. If we’re on a mission, I’m your superior officer. I can’t work with you if you can’t follow my orders.”
Of course, they are no longer talking about going back to the bunker.
“I can’t work with you if you’re going to tell me to leave you behind!” she snarls, fury spilling over and scorching the earth under them.
His orders — Jyn wants to spit at the word —had been clear. He was cornered and trapped, and she was to return to the ship, bring back the information they came for, and let Intelligence know that he’d been killed in action. That was what he’d asked of her.
Jyn didn’t hesitate a second to disobey him and would do so again in a heartbeat. Let the mission be for nothing, let the rebellion throw her out or put her in a jail cell, whatever. None of it was worth more than Cassian’s life.
Of course, he’d been less than pleased with her decision, especially when a blaster bolt grazed her arm during their escape. He’d patched her up after they holed up in the safety of the bunker, made sure she was okay and not dying, and didn’t say much to her since. Jyn, stilled riled up from the audacity of his orders, was just fine with that.
But this confrontation was inevitable.
“And you’re right, we’re not just friends. You… you’re…” She trails off, swallowing down the vulnerability that threatens to choke her, and tries to find a word appropriate enough to convey what he is to her. “You’re family. And that trumps superior officer — even on a mission. Sir,” she adds after a slight pause, venom in her voice, before sidestepping him to continue her trek.
“Jyn,” he calls after her.
“What, we’re on a first-name basis now?” she shoots back without turning to look. He starts to follow her again.
“That’s not —” He appears in front of her, halting her in her tracks. Again. “When we’re out there, that’s different.”
“It’s not for me. I can’t be like that.” She looks him in the eye, takes a deep breath, tries to temper her anger. “Look. We clearly won’t see eye to eye on this so let’s just go —” She tries to bypass him again, but he moves to stand in her way, and even that small thread of civility snaps in her. “What?!”
“Can’t you at least lie and tell me you’ll follow orders next time?” he asks, irritation coloring his voice.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want to live if you die!” she bursts out, then wonders a second later if she said too much. Caring about him, not wanting to see him dead, that’s normal. Platonic.
Expressing a lack of desire to go on if he was killed… not so much.
A long silence follows her words. The storm hasn’t let up, battering them mercilessly with large raindrops, the sound of her own breathing too loud in her ear. Her hair sticks to her cheeks, cold seeping into her bones as they stand there, frozen in time and place, while the world spins on around them.
Cassian looks shaken. She sees, more than hears, a small quivering breath rattling out of him, his eyes suddenly large and shining with a quiet sort of hope she wasn’t prepared for. But she can read it clearly. It’s as if his walls had been knocked down with a single blow, leaving his soft parts exposed and vulnerable. Begging for a cruel blade in his gut. It’s an ugly thought, but she thinks, unbidden, I could crush him. It’d be easy.
Instead, she takes a step forward, reaches out a hand tentatively, and it’s the only invitation Cassian needs. He grabs her waist and hauls her to him, crushing his lips against her own. Jyn isn’t even surprised. She clutches his cheek and drags him ever closer, a year’s worth of pent-up desire, frustration, and pining spilling into that kiss. Rain pours down on them, but she feels nothing of the cold, nothing of the wind, nor of the wet clothes sticking to her skin. Cassian’s fingers tangling in her hair currently take up all of her brain capacity.
Finally, he pulls away and breathes against her mouth, “Thank you. For saving me.”
His eyes are still closed, but Jyn quirks a brow at him. The warmth of his lips is too fresh on her mind to stay mad at him. “You’re giving me mixed messages.”
“It was the wrong thing to do for the mission,” he starts, and Jyn almost growls in warning, don’t fucking ruin the moment, but he hurries to continue. “But it’s not always about the mission. I would have done the same for you. I’m just not used to... I’m not used to people giving a shit about what happens to me.”
I’m not used to people sticking around when things go bad.
Yeah. She and Cassian are kindred spirits — the same picture but painted in different colors.
“It’s what family does,” Jyn tells him, echoing her words from earlier because they hadn’t been untrue. Whatever he is to her, above all — he’s family. A family of her own choice.
“Draven won’t let us work together if I tell him what happened,” he points out, but his face is still doing that thing where he smiles with his eyes, if not his lips.
Jyn shrugs, entirely unapologetic. “So don’t.”
Cassian kisses her again, but he breaks away a lot sooner when she can’t suppress a shiver against his lips. Damn weather. How long have they been standing outside in the rain? Cassian’s warmth is exhilarating, but she fears they really will get pneumonia.
“We should go back to the shelter,” he tells her gently, and this time, she has no objections.

As for turning the SDV art into prints,,,, I am not quite sure. 🤔
Some if the art like the fashion series (even though its old and no longer reflect my current artstyle), are just too boring to sell as a print??? the poses are so static and the background are plain. Some of them are commissions (ie. The ASS gang basking in the afterglow of a productive band practice), It would be inappropriate of me to sell as prints. Especially since they are specifically catered to my clients.
If you meant, the cleaned up sketches (the bachelors and bachelorettes) which i dont think i’ll be able to fully render anytime soon and i am uncomfortable with the idea so selling them sooooo…incomplete? Maybe if there’s enough interest I would put them up on my redbubble???? Also I am very unsure if i am allowed to put up the camfire piece i did for Season of the Valley fanzine up on my redbubble….
I do have a stardew valley print available on my redbubble though, Its the faux band poster of the ASS gang if you’re interested. comes in artboard and postcard.

I have developed a litany against dehumanization.
"Every human being is a person, and every person is a human being."
It's a reminder that's meant to cut both ways in regards to the ways in which people tend to dehumanize and ostracize others.
"Every human being is a person" means that everyone exists as a fully realized individual. No one is a background character. No one is an NPC. Even someone you think is boring, even someone you think is stupid, even someone whose behavior and beliefs are so fundamentally alien to you that you cannot begin to imagine what goes on in their minds. They're all people, with thoughts and feelings and a lifetime of unique experiences exactly the same as you.
"Every person is a human being" means that everyone, no matter how famous or monstrous or anonymous, is a living, breathing, actual human. Celebrities are human. People displaying disruptive symptoms of mental illness are human. The person posting on Tumblr is human. Nazis are human. There is no thought, action, or belief that renders someone nonhuman. (OF NOTE- emphasizing that someone who has done something morally abhorrent is human does not absolve them of wrongdoing, it is a reminder than anyone, even potentially people you know and care about, can think and believe and do terrible things.)
We all exist together on this planet, for good and for ill. Every human being is a person. Every person is a human being.

I did wanna pop up out of nowhere on your feeds for a second to just thank this community tremendously. My latest piece, which was a fully rendered Osvitio moment, was meant to be reflective of the very first piece of fanart that I drew for this game. I really do love this community. I love the people I have met and connected with. I love getting to talk about the blorbos. I appreciate people who helped nudge me back into it after a 3-month hiccup. And I wanna thank everyone who has liked or reblogged my stuff, especially with wild tags. It really makes my day. It's because of you guys that I have worked much harder on my art style and I cannot wait to show you some of the things I am workin' on in the background. So thank y'all. I'm real happy to be here.

What are your thoughts on Father Eiri and do you have any hopes for his future roles?
Eiri is a weird character I still don't really know what to think about or what to expect. He has three major interactions that define him, so I guess the best way to organize my thoughts about him is by looking over each of them one-by-one in isolation.
Relationship with the Aozaki family
Years ago, the young Eiri was practicing his swordsmanship secluded in the mountains and visited the Aozaki residence for some unelaborated part of his mental training under Grandpa's tutelage. He forged a genuine friendship with his mentor and became Touko's first love, until the day he destroyed Grandpa's body without warning.
Objective narration describes him as an automated killer who will cut anyone down if his buttons are pressed, with no need for a motive and no regard for his past together with his victim. And yet, his actions show nothing but care and empathy for the two Aozaki granddaughters. He offered to leave his entire life behind to run away to Mexico if Aoko felt too pressured by her sudden responsibilities as a mage. And his instant murder of his dear friend also happened in a moment Grandpa made Touko tear up.
Touko's first heartbreak was a consequence of her never entertaining the possibility that his actions were for her sake. Her subtle tear was the trigger. His explanation to her "Because I thought this was the moment when I could cut him". And then the narration clarifies that he didn't mean "I cut him because he showed an opening that made me feel confident I'd win". He meant "I cut him because this was when my emotions allowed me to". What's special about Eiri is that he does everything by his unfiltered impulses of emotion. (I'm pointing this out because the localization rendered this line as "I felt capable of killing him, so I did.", which completely misses the point of it)
Anyway, Eiri clearly cares about the Aozaki girls more than most things. He's defined by being capable of abandoning things without a second thought, but the times when we directly see him abandoning a friendship or offering to abandon his ties to Misaki Town, it's always because his heart places Touko or Aoko as a priority. He's not an ally in Mahoyo 1 because he values both sides of the conflict equally, but for the sequels, I can see him being a lot more proactively on Aoko's side.
Relationship with Alice
Mahoyo 1 establishes this as a major hook with him but doesn't elaborate much because it doesn't elaborate much on Alice in general. We know that in Mahoyo 1, Alice hates him and avoids the church as much as possible. However, in You Can Sleep But Not Laugh, set after Mahoyo 2, Eiri gets invited to Alice's birthday party, which elicits a "Why the hell did you invite your mother's killer?" reaction from Riddell. (I'm pointing this out because the localization rendered this line as the egregiously context-blind and non-commital "your parents' enemy", which turns a big off-hand reveal into a line that says nothing)
Their interactions in the funny murder mystery imply that Mahoyo 2 has a major moment where Alice gets to understand Eiri's thought processes and accepts the murder of her mother as justified to some extent. This is a fascinating development since Alice is so defined by her unwillingness to let go of what she likes.
Relationship with Soujuurou
This is the one interaction I see having a chance of already being concluded in the first game. Their thing is that these two guys are similar because of their shared "mountain boy raised as a killer" background. Eiri fully understands what Soujuurou is going through and tries to help with advice, but the only way Eiri knows how to offer advice is to point at the holes without telling how to patch them. It works with Souj because of their similar worldviews, but it's easy to see the source of his miscommunication problems with Alice and Touko.

I just wanted to come on here and thank both you and @thescarlettvvitch IMMENSELY. I struggle and have struggled for what feels like my entire life, with depression, anxiety, and the list goes on and on… But, Just Pretend means so much to me. It has been my saving grace for the last few months. It’s my safe place and the amount of times that I have gone back and reread the entire thing from start to it’s current chapter, or have even gone back just to reread my favorite chapters and favorite bits, is more then all 10 fingers and toes combined lol. Music has always been something that I turned too and would submerge myself in to take me away from it all and block out all the overbearing things surrounding my brain. But lately, Just Pretend is now what I reach for when I need a place to escape to drown out the noise. Although, it’s Angel and Noah’s world, in a sense, I feel like it’s also my world too. It’s my safe place and I know that if things are feeling a little too overwhelming, I can always open the tumblr app and can count on Noah & Angel to clear my head for a bit, or for hours on end. I cannot put into words or express my gratitude enough to either of you to measure up to how much Just Pretend has helped me through these last few weeks. I absolutely meant it when I said that both of you could be writing novels that sell out and are hard to keep stocked on the book shelves every week at all the book stores. The way you both are able to write these stories and fully encapsulate all the emotions and every single character, no matter how big or small their role in the story is, is absolutely astonishing. I just wanted to leave this in your inbox because I know you both have posted about how this week has been a bit rough for the both of you. But just know, that your work has saved people and granted them happiness and a sense of purpose when they needed it the most. I will always be here to continue coming back to read Just Pretend and drown myself out in Mochi, Angel, and fruit basket citrus sock smearing Jesse’s world. Thank you again, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. I cannot wait to see what you both have come up with for the next two chapters.💗 Also, sorry this was so long!🫣

First off, I want to say you’re not alone. I also suffer from anxiety and depression. It’s not easy. Some days(like this past week) are really hard. So to hear that Just Pretend helps you through yours makes me fall to my knees. I’m so so glad our story can be a positive outlook on life when the darkness seems to pull you under.
My work saved people? Our silly little story about Noah Sebastian saved people? I’m just at a loss for words because we NEVER thought it would be like this. In the best way possible. You guys say it all the time that Just Pretend is the best Noah fic on here but I still don’t believe it. We just thought it would be something fun to do together. We never imagined it would turn into something so magical and life saving.
I truly believe this is what Noah meant in the Rock Sound interview. Bad Omens has brought together so many different people with different backgrounds and who are going through their own struggles and find peace in the things Bad Omens created and what others create for/ because of Bad Omens.
With all the negativity Bad Omens is getting right now, I would love to show them this. Tell them that this is what their music is doing to/for their fans and the people that support them through and through.
But then again, I truly hope Noah never finds this story 😂

Here are our Artist Guidelines for digital and traditional art submissions!

Artist Guidelines
Our pages will be A4 pages at 300 dpi and artists will have the option to decide to use either a vertical A4 page at 2480 dpi [width] x 3508 dpi [height] or a double page spread at 4960 dpi [width] x 3508 dpi [height] as the canvas size for their work. Smaller canvases are limited to collaborative pieces.
Both digital and traditional artwork are permitted within the zine so long as you are able to provide a high quality scan or image of your work that meets the size requirements of the page type you’ve chosen.
Pieces should have a .25 inch white border around the edges of the work. There will be pre-prepared .psd files of both the vertical A4 page canvas and the double page spread canvas with the border if you would like to use them rather than adding the border yourself, but you won’t be required to if you would prefer to do it on your own. If you are a traditional artist who would not be able to add the border in themself, we mods can add it for you, however we may request you submit earlier so that we can work with you in case the border creates any issues with your piece.
As well, when the zine is assembled, we will be adding page number of your piece in a 0.5 inch by 0.5 inch white square (including the border) in either the bottom left or right corner of the page depending on where in the zine it ends up. You do not have to worry about adding this square or the page numbers, but while working you should try and make sure that there’s nothing important in those spaces that could end up getting covered when we assemble.
Works must be a neat, completed piece, however that doesn’t mean it need to be fully colored or rendered. Detailed ink lines, flat colors, watercolor-style, grayscale works, fully rendered/painted works, etc. are all options for what a piece could look like so long as it looks intentional. Illustrations in books have a ton of variety, so we won’t be asking that everyone make fully colored and shaded artwork if they want to experiment in other styles.
Works should fill most if not all of the space on your canvas and should depict either a scene or something equivalent. Outside of collaborative pieces with writers, every work should have at least some minimal background.
While this zine is themed after a storybook, we won’t be judging artists based on if we think their artstyle fits any particular “aesthetic” . As I said before, art in books has a ton of variety and this is meant to be an anthology where the work of multiple different artists and writers are collected! While the discord may have some links to different books and artists to serve as potential inspiration for folks that want it, your art and art style don’t have to look a certain way to be included in the zine!
In a similar vein, so long as the rats are recognizable to their design, proportional to their environment, and have their ears, tails, and fur, they can be as animalistic or anthropomorphized as you’d like! Outside of remaining loyal canon designs, there are no guidelines on how you draw the characters.
