Angel - Chapter 5

AGHHHH I KNOW IM SORRY it was an involuntary hiatus brought on by the horrible holiday we call christmas, but its here, ive had this idea since the beginning so i hope you like it!

In retrospect maybe taking personal leave directly after your fight with Maxwell probably didn't fit in with the image you wanted to portray to him, you’d hoped it looked as though you truly didn't care about what he said to you. But you did. You wish you didn't, honest, you'd been burnt by men before, you shouldn't have been surprised that once you caught feelings you would be in trouble. But you thought “if he truly doesn't care about me then it won't matter to him that I’m not there, he won't even notice.” you'd still been working from home, you've been keeping up all your professional correspondence, he won't notice, so why should you care about him either.

Little did you know however, that the morning after his outburst, Maxwell had returned to the apartment you had presided in, expecting you to be there. But you weren’t. He wanted to apologise, to grovel and fall to his knees and beg you to forgive him. To tell you that he was an idiot and he never meant to hurt you and that he, well, he had very strong feelings for you that were really, really beginning to scare him.

That night had been the first time he'd ever lost sleep over something in years.

Ever since he had lost his fiancée, Alice, Max made sure to never become attached to anyone, knowing how much pain it will cause him when they inevitably leave. Everyone left, whether it be willingly or not. His grandparents left, his parents, the woman he would have died for, and now you. He wasn't sure where you fit in there, his grandparents taught him to find happiness in everything, his parents taught him how to live, how to run the business he loved so much, and Alice taught him to love. And you. You taught him how to love again, you taught him compassion and kindness that he'd long lost. Before you he had promised himself that he would never feel pain again. But here he was, dealing with the consequences of breaking that sacred rule, and he hated it.

Max had hoped that he'd perhaps be able to speak to you at work, get you alone in your office, sadistically, somewhere you couldn't escape him, but alas, when he arrived early in the morning, two coffees in hand, Sookie had been there to greet him, letting him know that you were taking leave and working from home. He didn't press the issue, in fact he didn't say anything, just mumbled a quiet “you have this then” while passing her the second coffee.

Maybe he could call you to apologise, but it seemed pathetic to him to even consider apologising over the phone, after what he had said to you, you truly deserved the most heartfelt apology he could muster. But as the days went on and turned into weeks with you not at the apartment or at work, he slowly gave up. Max’s head started to fill with thoughts that maybe you were preparing to leave the company, to leave him. He had convinced himself that if you stayed with the company then you were staying with him.

He didn’t know why he had assumed that it would be easy, you’d proven to be anything but, he’d hoped he could just apologise, and then fuck you enough to prove it. But no. it wasn't going to be that easy.

Maxwell didn't want to admit it. But he missed you.

For the first week he stayed at the apartment every night, away from his home, just hoping that you would return for something. All of the clothes he'd paid for were still there, the kitchen was still stocked, you'd even left cigarettes in a pack on the balcony. It hurt to see how quickly you'd left him; you were obviously rushing to get away from him. He really fucked up. And he had no idea how to fix it.

He really fucking missed you. How soft your lips were, your cheeks reminded him of soft marshmallows for some reason. He missed the way the sun used to hit your face in the mornings as he was getting ready to leave the apartment, you always looked so beautiful, the golden light bathing you in a constant glow, he always felt content in those moments. Like nothing could ever go wrong or be bad, he simply let himself live in that moment, pretending that he could stay like that forever. And for some reason, he had convinced himself that h couldn’t stay. Every morning like that, where he left, the pain inside of him grew deeper and more unbearable.

And now all of that was gone, and it was his fault.

You missed him too. You hadn't left your apartment in almost three weeks, and you had intended for it to stay that way until Jade had shown up at your apartment this morning.

“Listen, I'm sorry that Mr. Handsome was a cunt, but I did warn you, you can't wallow here for the rest of your life. You've kept the job, and your apartment is dirt cheap, so I know you're loaded, you know what that means? We're going day drinking.”

“I don't want to go day drinking. I want to sit in my cocoon and rewatch the Brady Bunch, I'm not hurting anyone.” you said trying to release from her grasp. You had no intentions of being seen in public.

“Well too fucking bad, George is going to be here soon and he’s bringing me a friend, so you can’t fuck this up because I’ve been trying to get Robert to ask me out for weeks. We're going.” she said, beginning to pull out your makeup and go through it.

You walked towards her to ask what she was looking for until you clocked what she had said. “Wait did you just say George? As in George, my ex-coworker? Why is he coming over?” you asked your tone growing in urgency as your questions progressed.

“Well, when I was talking to him, he asked where you been, so I explained that you'd been working for Maxwell lord and that you’d not left your room in weeks after a big fight with your boss I’m not an id- OW! why are you throwing things at me?”

“Because! When George saw me on the street that night, I told him that it had been a fight with my boyfriend! Now he's going to think Maxwell was my boyfriend! I'm in so much trouble if he tells anyone that!” You refused to panic. At least that's what you were telling yourself as you got more and more breathless, you're truly trying not to panic but god is it hard to convince your brain not to have an anxiety attack.

“Listen Y/N if he thinks Max is your boyfriend so what, he isn't anymore, so what's the deal?” how Jade could be so nonchalant about this began to frustrate you, this could ruin you. Didn't she realise that? “Get up and shower I’m sure they are almost here.” apparently not.

And surely enough, just after you had gotten dressed there was a loud knock at the door, Jade went to answer it, hoping to distract the boys while you threw your hair together.

You overheard their idle chatter, something about the work at halo being boring and Henry being a dick. Nothing you didn't already know.

As you emerged you saw the two boys sitting on your couch and Jade standing in the kitchen. You'd never realised how small this apartment was until you were sitting here with others and everything felt so cramped. You missed your place with Max. you shouldn't say that. It wasn't your house with him. It was his place. You were staying there.

“Hey guys! Sorry I was just fixing up my hair, should we head?” you try to sound as cheery as you could. You were not ready for this day.

George slipped past you, saying something about “I just need the loo, I can lock up and meet you downstairs.” yeah, like you were going to let him do that, deciding to shoot jade and Robert downstairs, telling them you'd wait for George to get out and then come downstairs with him.

He was taking an unusually long time in the bathroom, and all you could think was “dear god please tell me he's not pooping in there,” as you went to knock on the door to check if he was okay, you heard a loud bang, felt unbearable heat, and then, saw only black.

Maxwell had been staring out his window all day, he wasn't sure why, but he had been compelled to stare at the skyline, take in how beautiful the city really was. Returning from his office he sat down to do the exact thing he had been doing all morning, until he noticed a pillar of smoke coming from the south side of the city. A bolt of fear ran through him as he remembered picking Y/N up from her apartment in the south downtown area of DC.

Immediately he called his assistant for the week and told her to access employee records for Y/N’s address, then he called the Fire Chief for the DC area, asking for the address of the most current fire that he can see burning from his window. And his worst fear was realised. They're the same address, it's Y/N’s apartment that's up in flames, and he's sitting in his high rise just watching it happen.

Maxwell stormed out of his office yelling at the girl to have Darius in the car waiting for him at the front doors by the time he gets down to them or she's fired. Logically he knew that she had no control over that, but he was in a rush and he didn't care to care about her. He didn't even know her name. Something with a B maybe? This is not what he should be thinking about right now.

He should be thinking about how the second chance he had at love was in danger and he had no idea what to do except go to her. That's if she even still lived there, what if she moved and she was absolutely fine, and here he was running around like a headless chicken hoping that she was okay when she could be fine; “yeah,” he thought, “she’s fine, I’m just going to go check up on the building just in case she's there and if she isn't then I will just go back to the office.” yeah because it was going to be that simple. Everything leading up to this point sure has been.

“Master Lord, I have to ask why we were driving to the downtown area in the middle of the workday?” Darius asked him with a careless tone as if he was expecting Maxwell to say that he just wanted a coffee.

“I have reason to believe Y/N is in trouble and I would like to ensure that she's not, now is that okay with you?” Maxwell knew he was being an ass, but he also knew that Darius cared for her too and that was accentuated in the way he stepped on the gas not saying a word, as if speed limits were not a problem.

They were outside the apartment building in less than ten minutes, Maxwell racing out of the car before it was even parked. He stood in front of the building gulfed in flames staring at it feeling a sense of hopelessness.

“Oh no you fucking don’t, Mister.” he heard someone say but barely paid any attention until a young woman got up in his face. “I’m talking to you Richie Rich what the fuck do you think you’re doing here? You yell at her, make her miserable, don't speak to her for weeks and then suddenly when she's in trouble you're here? To what? save the day? Sorry to break it to you dude but money is an accelerant so it’s probably best that you fuck off.” she shouted at him. He had no idea who this woman was but from what he had heard she obviously knew Y/N.

“Wait she's in trouble? She's in there?” he didn't even think to ask who she was all he wanted to know was if she was okay.

“Yes, she's in there, fires have been burning long enough for you to get down here do you see her on a stretcher? No, she's still in there, my best friend is in there and if she doesn't come out of there alive, I'm going to blame you. if it weren't for you going all macho alpha bullshit man then she wouldn’t have felt the need to leave that apartment up town, she wouldn't have moved back into this shit hole, and she would have been at work today instead of watching brady bunch reruns for the last 12 days straight. So, for your sake you better hope she comes out of there alive or I’m going to kill you for killing her.” Max had barely had the time to process the thought before he was tearing up, light sniffles coming from his nose as he tried to hold them back.

“Right, you're ahh… you're completely right, this is my fault, and believe me, I wish nothing more than to be able to take that night back, to make sure it never happened, because all I want right now is to hold her, and, and tell her, tell her that I love her. Because I do. I really do, and if I never get the chance to tell her that then I promise you can blame me forever and make my life a living hell but right now, all I want to do is focus on getting her out of there alive so excuse me for just one second please.” Maxwell walked away from her after saying his piece walking directly to the man who looked to be in charge of the fight.

“Excuse me, hi, I’m going to need you to go immediately to 21b and save the woman in there, she is of utmost importance do you hear me?”

“Sir, I'm sorry but we're going apartment by apartment trying to get everyone out. We can't just take priority for some girl,” the man said to him, slightly condescending as if he hadn't just asked the man to save the love of his life.

‘Here, you take this,'' Maxwell said while fishing out his wallet and handing the man his ID card, “and I’m going to call Chief Wallace, shall I? Or are we going to stop wasting time and you’re going to go get my girl out of that fucking building son?” Max’s tone was commanding, he would get what he wanted, and he knew that much.

“Yes sir, I’ll go retrieve her myself right away.” the man said while running towards his truck, Maxwell presumed for him to suit up.

As he walked back towards the group that Darius had now joined, the woman, whose name he still couldn't remember or hadn't been told, had a relieved and vaguely smug look on her face. “You know she's going to kill you when she finds out you manipulated the fire department into saving her first right?” she said watching Y/N’s window for any sign of movement.

“I know, but it's worth the price to have her here to threaten to kill me.” he said staring at the same window.

“Sorry, I know that was really rude of me, I’m Jade, I'm not sure if Y/N has mentioned me, this is Robert and George, two of our friends, guys this is Max, Y/N’s... Friend?”

“Yeah, I think it's best we go with a friend for now. I'd like to live long enough to be able to change that.” Maxwell slightly chuckled. He felt lighter, she wasn't safe but the hope he felt made him feel better.

Until he saw he being carried out, on the right side of her body her skin was burnt, he clothes blackened and singed, she looked lifeless, Maxwell heard nothing but silence and the ringing in his ears as he ran to take her from the man, Maxwell took her from his arms, and fell to the floor, he watched her, waiting for movement, and like the glimmer of hope he had held on to paid off, her chest moved slowly and minutely, but it moved, she was breathing.

Maxwell let go then, as he held her to him and sobbed into her, pushing the hair out of her face, being careful not to touch her skin while the paramedics brought over a stretcher, he didn't want to let her go, he just got her back he couldn't let her go.

He couldn't hear anyone, but he felt a hand on his shoulder and Jade's sympathetic eyes filled with her own tears staring down at her. That compelled him to stand up and lay her on the stretcher. The paramedics asked if he wanted to ride to hospital with her, but he looked at Jade and gestured for her to go. He knew that if she woke up on the way, the first face she saw after almost dying shouldn't be the man that put her in that situation.

He followed the ambulance into the city, finding jade within minutes, they sat in the waiting room for 8 hours, just hoping for some good news, they talked about how Max and Y/N met and how he knew he was in love and everything he can't wait to do with her if she gives him the chance. The conversation lulled around hour 5 with Jade opting to nap in the highly uncomfortable hospital chairs, urging Maxwell to follow in her suit but he couldn't sleep until he knew how she was. He needed answers the moment they were available to him.

By the time it was almost hour 9 a doctor came to them.

“She's going to be just fine, the burns aren't too severe, however she did inhale a lot of smoke shop she's going to be rusty on the talking for a few days and her respiratory system is going to take a while to recover, so it's up to you to make sure she doesn't overexert herself okay? Other than that, she’s out of surgery, so you can go see her, but just make sure it's only 1-2 people at a time. This is a very traumatic time for her and it's only going to get worse before it gets better but I’m sure with a husband like you it won't be so hard for her to recover.” the doctor finished with a small smile and then walked back down the hall to attend to other patients he assumed.

Husband. She thought he was Y/N’s husband. And honestly, he didn't want to correct her on it. He liked the idea of being her husband. Even if it wasn't real.

“Hey Jade, come on wake up, we can go see her now.” Jade sat bolt upright when she heard those words. Asking for her room number and bolting towards the door, with Maxwell following behind slowly. He reached her door and saw her sleeping, so peacefully, the LED lights of the hospital only served to make her look more pale and sickly than she already was, but she still looked beautiful to him. Absolutely perfect.

Just before he could join Jade in the room his cell began to ring. “Maxwell Lord.” he answered, not expecting any calls on this thing, it’s 1984 who has this phone number?

“Mr. Lord I’m sorry to interrupt you, I know you're extremely busy with your wife, but I just had a matter to discuss with you about the fire in her building.” The man on the other end, Chief Wallace, sounded nervous, almost trembling, “I'm not entirely sure how to explain this, but preliminary investigation we conducted into the cause of the fire has indicated that the fire was started in Ms. Y/L/N’s apartment.”

“I'm afraid we're going to need to question her when she becomes lucid enough for a police interview.”

Your Guardian Angel

Rushing out of work you sighed. You hated it. Well not the job itself, but your boss and coworkers as they all were judgmental and fake friends. As it was Friday you decided to ditch your usual after work Tradition of going home and treating yourself by for once going shopping. Feeling rather self confident, which was quite unusual for you, you decided to try on one of the little black dresses your favorite store had in stock.

"Well damn girl, the guy you come home to is fucking lucky.", you heard a voice beside you speak when you stepped out of the dressing room to look at yourself in the mirror. Surprised you turned around and stood opposite of a brunette woman in jeans and a T-shirt. "Uhm thank you?", you mumbled and she smirked. "Made friends already?", a blonde asked the one opposite of you. "Only complimented the outfit.", she answered stepping aside. "Daaaaaaaamn.", the blonde you now saw gasped. "Thank you...", you blushed biting your lip.

"Hey, so you live in Paris right?", the first asked again and you nodded confused due to the sudden change of topic. "Do you have anything planned tonight? You seem cool and we're not from here.", she smiled and you thought for a second. You wanted to get more spontaneous and these two didn't seem like kidnappers, so you decided to give it a shot. "Sure, I could show you around a little?", you smiled at them. "I'm Y/N by the way." "Briana and that's Kim, not sure where the others are.", the blonde shrugged. "How many are you exactly?", you asked surprised and she seemed to count in her head. "Tonight we're 6, the other 4 stayed at the hotel because they're either sick or party poopers.", she finished and you nodded. "And you're all Americans?", you then asked before turning around to head back to the dressing room. "You better leave that one on, it's fabulous! And yes, well no, one is half French, but besides that all born and raised in the land of opportunities.", Kim laughed. "I'm not American though.", a red head grinned as she walked up to the three of you. "Oh damn right! That's Ruth. Ruth, Y/N.", Briana introduced and you waved at her smiling softly. Once all of the three and you had paid for your new possessions and you had changed back into the dress as they had requested the three girls lead you to a small restaurant across the street. "Guys! We found a new friend.", Ruth exclaimed excited pulling you towards the table. "These are Rob and Rich, secretly gay for each other and Sebastian, our half French guy. This is Y/N, Kim found her trying on the dress and she actually considered not buying it!", she introduced you to the others and the others to you and soon another chair has been added to the table and the seven of you sat around it with a cocktail in hand each. "So what did they catch you with?", Richard asked from beside you after taking a sip. "Kim surprised me kind of and then they just asked me and well, I really need to work on being spontaneous, so here we are.", you shrugged smiling at him softly. "Well spontaneous is my second name.", Sebastian spoke from your other side and for some reason the whole table laughed. "Thought that was charmer?", Rob shot back and you grinned. "Don't worry Y/N, Seb is all talk and no action.", Kim reassured you before they all got back to the topic they had been talking to before, which was the absence of a person younger than them. In a moment of confusion and laughing Sebastian all of a sudden leaned over towards you and smirked. "You know, I can show you what a man of action I am later...", he whispered right beside your ear and stroked your cheek with his finger before sitting back up and joining the conversation the others had leaving you with a flushed face. Not joining their conversation you were still thinking about his words when Richard rapped your shoulder. "All okay? Are we boring you?", he asked genuinely worried and you smiled at him. "Not at all, the stories you're telling sound like fun, well some are also pretty creative.", you told him noticing that the others were all caught up in the conversation. "I'll kidnap Y/N quickly so she can translate okay? I don't trust Seb anymore.", he then grinned at the group and pulled you up after they had nodded. While you quickly followed him Sebastian watched you smirking. "What do you need translated?", you asked once he stopped in a quiet corner and he laughed softly. "Nothing, just wanted to get you away from Mr. Charming. Look, we all know he can be quite overwhelming and he always is like that around us, but usually not towards strangers, unless he is on stage. I don't know what exactly he told you earlier, but he seems to enjoy your company, so I just wanted to make sure you're not thinking too bad about him after whatever he said to you, because judging by your expression it was either really embarrassing or clearly not for the public's ear.", the blonde in front of you spoke smiling and you nodded. "Clearly not for the public ear.", you agreed with a small nod. "But thank you Richard, he really seems like a nice guy under the surface.", you added and Richard smiled even wider now. "Oh he is, he is a puppy and as supportive and loyal as one can be, believe me.", he told you before looking to the table over your shoulder. "Guess we got to head back, just to make sure, you'd be fine if we disappear one after the other?", he asked and you though for a second before nodding. "Good... oh and you had to translate the newspaper article for me, in case they ask.", he spoke over his shoulder before heading back to the table with you in tow.

Richard did just as he had warned you. First the three girl disappeared claiming they were tired and were going to take a taxi to the hotel leaving the three guys and you. While Rob and you talked about the TV show they were all starring in Rich and Seb went to talk outside before coming back inside only to have Rich pronounce he was call it a night as well because apparently he was still jet lagged. Rob was quick to join making you smile. The introduction clearly had been right, they were best friends, almost like a gay couple. "So that leaves the two of us.", Sebastian announced looking at the now almost empty table. "Indeed... Rich asked me earlier if that's okay because he noticed your comment towards me.", you admitted and he frowned before a smile spread on his lips. "And you said yes, i mean you're still here so...", he concluded before you could nod again. "So you do want to take me up on the promise hm?", the male smirked and you lightly hit his shoulder while shaking your head. "What about you actually buy me a coffee first?", you suggested and he grinned happily. "If you intend, I would prefer a nice dinner though, if you haven't had one yet?", he asked you. "Nope, headed shopping and then here directly after work.", you agreed so he got up immediately before helping you up. He held your jacket open and then smiled with his outstretched arm so you could link yours in. Apparently the others had already paid when they left, so he guided you outside onto the busy streets of Paris. Walking close beside you he made sure you would get bumped into while tell you about his youth in Paris. Smiling you explained your history to him about how your parents were French and American and you had just recently moved from New York to Paris for your job. "Oh? So that's the reason such a beautiful lady is spending her Friday evening with strangers?", he asked frowning slightly and you nodded. "I'm having a hard time finding friends here, my coworkers aren't at all like yours.", you sighed and he surprised you with his next move. "Well my coworkers are your friends now as well, after the messages I got they clearly are.", he grinned and handed you his phone with text messages on the lock screen.

"You better not mess this up." - Bri "Go get her tiger. BUT. Keep her." - Kim fucking Rhodes "Bonne Chance Seb. Please don't hurt her." - Witchy "I agree with Rich!" - Rob "If you leave without the intention to see her again I'll end you. Gabriel will end you. And God will join." - Richy "Oh and give her our numbers! Forgot that :)" - Richy

You read the texts before handing him his phone back. "So they all think im gonna let you get it tonight hm?", you frowned and he shrugged. "Apparently they believe I'm really charming.", he shrugged smirking and you smiled. "We'll see hm?", you replied before looking around noticing where you were. "Isn't that like way too expensive?", you frowned when he stopped in front of one of the more expensive restaurants in Paris. "Not really, you deserve to be treated, plus I want to impress you.", he admitted and you giggled. "Oh that's working.", you smiled at him when he took your jacket off of your shoulders only to place it on the rack then pulled your chair out. "Merci.", you smiled with a little nod seconds before a waiter arrived. You ordered your drinks and soon after your food and Sebastian skillfully chose a wine to go with it. "That's your French routs hm?", you teased and he nodded laughing softly. "Either that or its still me wanting to impress you, now hand me your phone, I'll type in the numbers hm?", he offered and you nodded doing just that. A few moments later he handed it back to you and watched you smiling. "I took the opportunity and saved me as well.", he sheepishly admitted and you grinned. "Had hoped you'd do that.", you replied when the waiter delivered your food. The dinner was filled with stories from the both of you and you didn't miss the glances he gave you. The glances or admiration and interest as well as kindness. After dinner you excused yourself to head to the toilet where you got your phone out and looked through your contacts. Quickly you pressed on one of the newly saved contacts. "Hello?", you heard Richard answer and exhaled. "Hey... it's Uhm me, Y/N.", you spoke unsure whether calling was a good idea. "Oh hey, is everything okay? He didn't mess up did he? I'll hurt him if he did!", the male spoke and you chuckled quietly. "No no Richard... it's the opposite and I... I felt like I needed to talk to someone. Is that okay? That's weird right?", you rambled and paced the bathroom. "What? No! Wait I'll get out of the room and back to mine.... okay now, what's going on?", he asked after a moment and you heard he had closed the door to separate himself from the noises. "He... Sebastian is such an angel... I'm scared I'll mess up Richard. I always mess up, that's what he said...", you quietly spoke and heard Richards gasp. "Seb said that?", he grumbled and you realized you had confused him. "Oh no! My ex, my father, all of them. I don't want to hurt Sebastian, but that's all I do.", you sighed sadly and heard Richard breathe in deeply. "Okay, listen. You tell him you don't feel well and when he's back here I'll talk to him if you want, Okay?", the man suggested and you nodded with tear filled eyes. "That would be... You're the best Richard. Heck I don't deserve to know you.", you mumbled then ended the call to get ready to face the disappointed look of Sebastian.

Sebastian had been super understanding making you feel even worse. He had offered to take you home to make sure you arrived safely and when you declined he had ordered a taxi for you and pre payed for it. The whole time in the taxi you texted with Richard explaining why you had reacted the way you did, about your nightmares, the doubts and how sorry you felt that you put that all on him when all of his fan already told him all of those personal stories, but he just told you not worry and accept it because he was your as he said best gay friend now. With a sigh you stepped into your little flat. A few minutes before Richard had written you that Sebastian had arrived in the hotel and he was going to talk to him, so you now anxiously waited for a text message. Quickly you made yourself a cup of tea and sat on your favorite window. You saw the Eiffel Tower from it and simply adored it because of that.

"Are you in bed already? Can you come over?" - Richy

You sighed when your phone showed the notification and quickly got up and put your coat back on.

"Which hotel?"

"Hyatt. Room 759"- Richy

Immediately you were on your way. It had to be bad or too long and complicated if he didn't want to tell you what was going on on the phone or in a text. Stepping into the Hyatt you looked around surprised, you had never been here and probably would never be in such an expensive hotel again. Heading up with the elevator you looked for the room then quietly knocked afraid to disturb other guest who might already be sleeping. While waiting you nervously played with your fingers and looked at the ground. "Y/N... Please come in.", Sebastian's voice greeted you and you looked up surprised. "I... This is your room isn't it?", you sighed before moving to turn around. "It is, but I asked Richard to do that, please come in?", he spoke now incredibly gentle making it impossible for you to turn your back to him. With a quiet sigh you walked inside and once the door fell close he had his arms around you in a protective hug. "Oh Y/N... why didn't you tell me... okay no, I get why, I'm glad you told Richard and allowed him to tell me.", he mumbled into your hair and stroked your back. Right away the tears in your eyes were back and you soon became a crying mess. "Shhh, it's okay... you didn't mess up... and you won't, you can't... there's nothing you could do that would make me think you messed up.", he spoke calmly while he kept holding you. "Nothing okay? Because you are freaking amazing and beautiful and kind and I can't even find the words to describe you although I'm never out of words.", he finished and you closed your eyes trying to calm down. Your arms were on his torso while his were one wrapped around your waist and the other in your hair. After a few more moments you had calmed down enough to breath normal again. He slowly let go of you and looked at you smiling. "I'm a mess...", you whispered referring to both, your physical and emotional state and Sebastian quickly cupped your cheeks. "Okay, you're not a mess, I mean physically you kind of are at the moment, but I think you're adorable and in that cute head of yours everything makes perfect sense, so I am never going to judge you for anything you feel. You have your reasons for thinking this way and chuck help me if I ever meet the person who's done that to you...", he quietly cooed before kissing your forehead. "So now we're gonna go knock on Briana's door and ask if she can borrow you some sweatpants and a shirt and then head to bed, what do you think?", he suggested making you nod with a sniffle. He gently grabbed your hand before leading you back into the hallway after helping you out of your coat. Two doors down the corridor he knocked on a door and a smiling Briana opened the door. "Y/N...? What happened? What did you do?!", she asked you first then turned to Sebastian. "He did nothing! Don't worry, it's me... I messed up...", you quickly defended him only to feel him squeeze your hand. "Bri, could we borrow a pair of sweatpants and a shirt?", he asked her smiling gently and turned to you once she headed back into her room to grab the things. "You didn't mess up okay? I promise you, I understand it. Please don't think that you're messing up when you open up about how you feel and what's going on in that beautiful head of yours. Remember, nothing you could do to mess up, nothing okay?", he mumbled cupping your cheeks again. Closing your eyes with a nod you heard Briana cough quietly and both Sebastian and you turned to look at her. "I've also gotten you a spare hairbrush I had around.", she gently smiled and you went to grab the things only to have the man beside you grab them first. "Got it, thank you Briana, I owe you.", he nodded with a thankful smile then turned to you. "Let's head to bed hm?", he suggested and guided you back to his room. If you had paid attention you would've noticed how Briana's door didn't close until you were back in the room you had previously come from. "You can use the bathroom first, I'll go after you, is that okay?", he asked quietly and you nodded taking the clothes from him then headed for the bathroom. Quickly you changed then went back so he could get changed. Once the both of you were finished he looked at you smiling gently. "I'll take the couch of course.", he explained but you shook your head. "Don't be silly, we're gonna share, it's big enough.", you pointed to the bed and he thought for a second then nodded. Once the both of you laid under the shared blanket but not touching he switched off the light and you sighed. "I'm sorry... I'm sure that's not how you had planned your night to end.", you whispered and heard him turn around probably to face you. "You're right, it's better, after all I'm laying in bed with an amazing woman and am hopefully going to wake up beside her as well.", he spoke the smile audible in his voice leaving you with a smile as well. "Good Night Sebastian.", you mumbled. "Good Night Y/N. Sleep well.", he replied and with a smile you fell asleep beside him.

Slowly opening your eyes you blinked a few times until your eyes adjusted to the light that shone in through the windows. Moving slightly you intended to get up only to be stopped by an arm on your waist. Frowning slightly you turned to the body of the arm that kept you in bed and a slight smile spread across your lips. The way he was holding you, it seemed like he wanted to keep you from getting up, but not in a creepy way, more as if he was being protective. "Sebastian?", you mumbled and tapped his cheek gently in order to wake him. "Hm?", he hummed retrieving his arm from your waist to run his eyes. "We should get up... you have to be at the meeting thing soon, don't you?", you quietly spoke while sitting up and he did the same. "Oh right... yeah... what are you doing today?", he asked looking at you with a soft smile. "Nothing planned, why?", you replied and his smile got wider. "Do you want to join? It's gonna be the others and me and I promise it'll be fun.", he suggested and after a moment of thinking you agreed with a nod. Once the both of you had gotten up you went to shower first then dried your hair and got dressed in your work clothes from the previous day before checking your phone while Sebastian got ready.

"Surprisingly well, no nightmare tonight.", you quickly typed back before asking how he slept. "Good! Amazing actually. Glad him cuddling kept them away! I know he's a cuddler... we once shared a room at a convention...." - Richard You chuckled and locked your phone just when Sebastian walked back in freshly showered and dressed in a button up and jeans. "What's funny?", he smiled at you while walking over. "Richard said you're a cuddler and that you shared a room once.", you explained while he sat down beside you on the bed. "Did I cuddle you?", he asked turning to face you and you nodded. "I'm sorry... i mean if you did mind...", he started but you interrupted him quickly. "I didn't... it kept the nightmares away.", you whispered before smiling at him gently. "So thank you." "Glad I could help.", he grinned then grabbed your hand carefully to pull you up. "Breakfast and then we leave for the convention, what do you say?", he smiled walking towards the door you in tow and before you could reply you and him ran into Rich and Rob out in the hallway. "Good Morning!", Rob smiled making you wonder whether everyone of them knew you had spent the night there because they didn't really seem surprised. "Morning Robby!", Sebastian grinned and you smiled politely to the both men before heading to breakfast along with them. While the three males talked you mainly listened and chuckled here and there when they said funny things. "So did you two talk?", Richard asked suddenly as he stepped beside you at the buffet. "Not exactly, he still doesn't know more than you told him, but he told me that there's nothing I could do to mess it up with him.", you softly spoke with a tiny smile on your lips and saw Rich smile as well when you looked up. "I'm glad Y/N, because you two are such cuties together. So, do you wanna spend the day with us today then?", he asked while putting some more Madeleines on his dish so he luckily didn't see you blush. "He's asked that already... and if you others don't mind...?", you began only to be interrupted by him with a "We don't at all! So yay!". "What are you two talking about?", Kim asked stepping up beside you and immediately Rich told him about you joining them for the day. "Oh I'm glad! I had hoped so!", the brunette smiled just when she finished getting food, so the three of you went back to the table to finally eat breakfast. After all we're finished the shuttle to the convention hotel was already waiting and you all got inside to head there. You sat in between Richard and Rob because they immediately had stated that that was the plan. "Soooooo, you and Seb hm? I mean you two are so cute!", Rob squealed quietly with a huge grin on his face. "We're not a thing Rob...", you mumbled back and he shrugged. "Not yet, but soon.", he noted before going on to talk about the convention and what was planned for the day so you knew about it. When you arrived you knew the basics about the fans and what was going to happen. Going into the green room with the actors you looked around curiously. "Come here Y/N?", Sebastian asked from a comfortable looking chair from the window. "There's not enough chairs, so you might wanna share with me?", he suggested while patting his lap lightly. It wasn't one of those sexual and weird ones, it was more a friend offering a seat when all chairs were taken. Smiling you sat down and he wrapped his arms around your waist and placed his head on your shoulders. Talking to the other actors they discussed what they were going to talk about at the first panel while you just listened in and giggled when they told you the funny stories the fans would soon know as well. "Rob, Rich and Matt are the first that have to leave, so you want to watch their panel? We could either watch from behind the stage or the back of the room?", Sebastian quietly suggested and you nodded excited. "Behind the stage sounds like a plan.", you smiled at him wanting to avoid being seen and causing rumors. He nodded pulling you a little closer and hummed a French lullaby quietly which made you smile. "I like that song... my mum used to sing it for me when I was little.", you explained so only he heard it. "I'm sure she's a great singer.", he replied only to hear you sigh. "She was yes... a wonderful one, i hardly remember it though."

When the convention finished in the evening it was already way past 9 and you honestly were quite exhausted. Intending to head home and right into bed you grabbed your belongings and headed towards the exit of the empty green room. "Hey, where are you going?", Richard asked as he stepped in and nearly ran you over. "Home, why?", you frowned and he tilted his head. "You don't want to stay with him tonight as well? I mean, you slept good last night didn't you?", he reasoned and you nodded sadly. "I did, but I don't want to bother him any further. I mean I already did cause a lot of trouble didn't I?", you sighed and Richard shook his head wanting to start an answer just when the door opened. "Y/N? Where are you going?", Sebastian asked smiling and you sighed but before you could, Richard replied. "She thinks she's causing you trouble so she wanted to head home.", he told the other only to receive a death glare from you. "Hey hey, I told you. No trouble, no bother and no mess, okay?", Sebastian asked as he stepped in front of you and held your head up so you would have to look at him. "Okay...", you sighed before feeling him wrap his arms around you. "I had hoped your stay another night... is that too optimistic?", he whispered in your ear and you shook your head. "N-no... I just... i thought maybe you'd want to stay at my apartment tonight?", you suggested before feeling him pull away and look at you. "Are you sure?", he frowned and smiled when you nodded. "What? Sure about what?", Richard frowned not having heard your silent conversation. "That he is invited to stay at my place tonight.", you quietly admitted and Richard widely smiled like a boy in a toy store. After saying your goodbyes to the whole cast and promising that you'd come back the next day you and Sebastian grabbed an Uber to head to your apartment. Once inside you showed it to Sebastian and were surprised when he loved and pointed out the details in it. He also fell in love with your favorite window and immediately sat on the bench in front of it, surprisingly opposite of your usual seat. Smiling you joined him and your feet intertwined leaving you touching each other, but not so much it was uncomfortable. "I want to tell you something.", you spoke after a while of pure silence and enjoying the scenery. Curiously the man opposite of you looked over at you smiling. You took a deep breath before looking out of the window and starting. "When I was 4 my mother died... she died in a car crash and I was on the backseat, I hardly made it, but god knows how I survived. My dad didn't really like this though and that's what he made sure I knew. He didn't treat me well, insulted and physically abused me. A night in tears and covered in bruises wasn't unusual. That was until I met Simon, my ex. He first treat me like a queen, he showered me in love and attention but after a while he hung around with my father, he started to show his real side which was similar to my fathers if not even worse. I've been with him for 3 years afraid to leave him until he broke my rib about a year ago. It punctuated my lung and I had to be rushed into hospital where I finally found the courage to tell the nurse and leave him. I've changed my name, my habits, where I live and where I work in order to avoid being found...", you mumbled not daring to look at him after you just came clear about your whole life being a lie. "Those are the reasons for the nightmares, right?", Sebastian asked and you looked up surprised. You had expected something like rage or confusion, but what you saw was care and admiration. Carefully you nodded and he pulled you in between his now slightly spread legs so he could hold you close to his chest. "Oh Y/N, you're such a strong woman... I wish I could've kept you from that, but now that I'm here I will keep you from ever being treated like that again...", he mumbled against your hair and you chuckled in the end making him frown. "So you're gonna be my guardian angel?", you asked softly and he nodded before joining your chuckle. "And that while you actually are the angel.", he shook his head with the same smile still plastered on his face. That same smile was on his lips when he nervously asked you to be his girlfriend four weeks later in front of his friends and the Eiffel Tower. It was the same smile that appeared on his face when you told him you were going to move to the other side of the ocean for him and it was the same expression that graced his lips when he called Richard to tell him the news of your unexpected pregnancy first. When your little son was born he held him with that amazing smile you loved seeing on him and not even a year later he had it when he fell down on one knee in front of you.

Darkest Before Dawn. Part 1

There will be bo pairing with reader and the seed family :) possibly someone else though I haven’t decided yet! Farcry 5 fanfic. Rated M for Mature language and sexual reference. No pairing or plans for smutt.

You took a deep breath in and as you pulled up to your new house. You technically haven’t seen it yet but since the price was so good you didn’t want to wait. The real estate lady was certainly nice, you got the idea she would be fun person to drink with on ladies night. The moving crew dropped everything off yesterday other than the clothes in the jeep with you. Grabbing your bag and putting your long red hair back you step out to get a better look. Its a small cabin with a little garden and shed, the shed had access to a bomb shelter fully stocked already.

“So this is home now.” You mumbled to yourself as she walked up and put your bag just inside the door. You wanted to check out the shelter, it felt weird being excited about it in a way but in another way its a great reason to buy more fun guns. Before you could finish your thought though someone stumbled from the bush he looked at you like a deer in head lights for a second.

“Hope you’re cool and not a narc, you didn’t see me!” He says as he ducks into your cabin moments before a cruiser pulls in.

“Evening, Joanne or Rookie” he said with a small chuckle as he got out “Wasn’t expecting to see you untill tomorrow but you wouldn’t of happen to see a man come through here? Wears a baseball cap and green hoodie?”

“Sounds serious Sheriff what he do?” You asked your curiosity was the worst, you should just tell him but you wanted to know first.

“Arson mostly, he’s known to make his own flamethrower and set things on fire.”

“No shit! He makes his own flamethrowers? Do they ever blow up or anything?” You asked, probably a little more excited than should be as the Sheriffs face shifted. “Sorry Sheriff, no, haven’t seen anyone yet your my first official visit. Sorry I couldn’t help more.”

“No problem, Welcome to Hope County Deputy Knight.” He said with a big smile he gave her a nod as he got back in and drove away.

“You are officially my favourite officer ever! Thanks for not narcing on me. The names Charlemagne Victor Bowshaw, but you can call me Sharky.” He said as he stuck his hand out. Smiling you take it.

“Cant do that all the time for ya, honestly it was the homemade flamethrower that won me into not giving you up. Joanne Hope Knight, you can call me Jojo.”

“Well your pretty fucking cool for the popo Jojo.” Sharky said with a big grin “I tell you what i will drop off a flamethrower for you! I got to get going though Sheriff left in that direction do im going in this one!” He said as he ran off into the bush as quick as he had appeared. You watched him in amusement hopining more of hope county was like this. Smiling you headed back inside and pulled up your bag the letter was poking out of the side pocked a little. Your smile dissapeared. For years you wondered, looked and now that you found them something wasnt right. You pick the letter up and look at it again.

We hope this finds you in good health. We have been looking for you for some time and we thank God that we have been able to find you. Our family is not complete without you, we hope you find your way into Hope County where we can meet in person as its been so long. We where just children when they split us up but we have been and always will be family. Its not to late Joanne, its never to late to start a new home to be with family.

You dont remember your life much before adoption. You remember the farm a bit and the fire. John held you as you watched it burn and Jocob told you ‘They cant hurt you anymore’ and Joseph stood there with you all as it burned. After that you went through a few foster homes before being adopted they moved to Canada where you stayed. Even after your adoptive parents moved back, you even lived in Canada up until your adopted parents died. So you decided to move back and change carrer path try something new. Thats when Joseph started sending you letters, he probably couldn’t find you before because you where in Canada. You forgot about them in a way until that first letter and it felt weird being their because of it. The family you forgot, but never stopped loving. You didn’t tell Joseph you where in town, or that you where a new Deputy. You even took a blind leap of faith and did as little looking into the town as possible so you can experience it fresh and new. Sighing you look out the window it was getting dark and tomorrow was a big day so you decided to go to bed.

Pulling up to the station first day of duty, your stomach is in knotts, the uniform itched and it was hot. Taking a deep breath you rest your head on the steering wheel releasing your breath slowly you get and head to the door. The Sheriff was talking with a man in a Marshel vest and an older gentleman in a sweater vest.

“I want to move on this today, not tomorrow. We have the warrant, we know where he is lets move.”

“The Mayor and i agree, this is something that definitely needs to be delt with but its delicate. You need to...”

“Get your men, get in the chopper and lets move out.” The Marshal demanded angerly as he stormed past you out the door.

“Welcome to Hope County Sheriffs Department.” Whitehorse said with a big sigh and nodd to you. He rubbed his temples and looked you up and down for a second sizing you up. “Awe shit, i cant bring a shiny new rookie on this dammit. Spend the day inventoring learn where everything is, office and papper work is over there. Storage for guns and ammunition there anything else ask one of the other Deputies. Pratt, Hudson, Nancy lets go over the plan.” He said as he turned away and headed to the back room three deputies in tow all looking at each other. You don’t know how long they talked in there before leaving but after a few hours there was the sound of panic so you stopped inventorying the amo.

“Wow, usually this busy and chaotic? You ask as you head over to the radio where everyone was huddled.

“Lost contact with the sheriff, the long range radio is out it looks like Carl busted it before he took off for whatever reason.”

“He might of ran to look for his wife, Nancy you know? One of the Deputys that went with the Sheriff those peggies are scary shit alright?!”

“Well what the fuck can we do? Two, no three deputies but ones a shiny rook. What the fuck do we do?”

“Gentlemen geez.” You interupt annoyed “Give the shiny rookie a map with last know coordinates. You two hold the fort while the expendible checks it out, I’ll grab a short range radio and check in.” They stopped arguing and nodded.

“Sure you up for this?”

“Its part of the job someone needs to.” You reply as you turn to head to the storage to grab some gear. It didn’t take long for them to have map ready or for you to hit the road. It didn’t take long for you to see some smoke in the distance. You put your foot down a little harder something wasn’t sitting right. You where fairly close to the smoke billowing into the sky when you noticed a bunch of people on the side of the road. It wasn’t until you where to close that you noticed the guns, they opened fire and you swerved to try and get away. The Jeep stopped and you jump out on use it for cover and grab your weapon.

“Hope County Deputy Knight, put your weapons down.” You yell and they replied with more bullets just white truck sped off of the side road and and hit the group of people and stopped. You look over the Jeep to see the Marshal in the truck.

“Get in the fucking truck these people are crazy.” He yelled at you, you didn’t need much more motivation you seen two more trucks speeding towards you. You ran to the passenger side and jumped in. “They brought the helicopter down, fucking Nancy was one of them, fuck these people are fucked.” You where sure there was probably more to that but the sounds of bullets hitting the back of the truck. It looked like he was going to yell at you to shoot back but you where already leaning out the window.

“Holly fuck, do they have air support?” You yell as you pull back in as a plan also followed in behind the trucks and opened fire.

“This is fucked up, this is FUCKED UP!” He yelled as he swerved onto a different road and you try to lean out to shoot at the trucks still following. But the where putting distance between you.

“Their pulling back.” You yell.

“Hold on, theres a road block by they bridge, shoot em!” You turn forward and start clearing apath to push through. The second you cleared it you heard the plane come in from behind you and you get back into the cab.

“What the fuck is goi...” you never got to finish the scentace the road before you exploded. There was cheers from the people as the truck fell towards the water. You don’t remember hitting the water or the stuggle to get out, but you heard the marshal as you laid on the shore as the darkness crept up over you. He was yelling at them to let him go and you fell into the pitch black.
