I GOT TO READ TOVE JANNSON STUFF FOR A WHOLE SEMESTER ONCE it was for a world literature class an we had to choose a non-american author to focus on for the whole semester an i chose her and THE SUMMER BOOK WAS AMAAAZINGGGG it made me crazy... but i did chose that one so dont know if it counts i also LOVED reading Of Mice and Men in highschool that was like the one time (besides when we all read the great gatsby) where it felt like everyone was actually hyped to be reading it it was rly cool. steinbeck is freaking aweseome.

Would anyone be interested in a Stranger Things Little Mermaid au?!

I’ve watched the new film and - so many ideas.

It’d be a mix with both films too. And something like instead of reader being a mermaid, making the deal for legs, they’re making a deal with ‘Ursula’ (maybe Vecna I’m thinking) to bring Eddie back to life. The catch is, Eddie won’t remember who reader is, or that you used to be dating. And you still don’t have your voice, so in three days, without speech, you have to get Eddie to either remember you, or fall in love with you all over again.

With the help of your friends, and Wayne. (I’m thinking Steve has a Sebastian type beat bc he’s trying to desperately keep the whole situation under control. Kiss the girl especially, I was thinking of Steve Robin and Dustin singing the Sebastian, Scuttlebutt, Flounder parts a little, which partly inspired this au idea haha)

But if the three days go by, and you don’t get true loves kiss, then you made your deal... but with any chance of bringing Eddie back, you have to take it. And your friends couldn’t stop you, so now you’ve all got to work together to get Eddie to kiss the girl

I’ve got loads of scenes planned out and ideas and stuff. There’ll be quite a few differences with this au, bc it’s all abt Eddie’s death, and the fact he already loved you once, he just doesn’t remember it, and probably no mermaids haha, but definitely got so many ideas for it. I’m really excited at the prospect of fully writing this. Lmk if that’s something ppl would like to see!!! 💕

Learning & Unlearning

Recently, Mercer’s survey showed HK remains the most expensive city to live for expats.

Personally been meaning to jot down my thoughts having lived there... of course much of it was personal choice of lifestyle.

There were three main things consumed almost all of my time living there - worrrrkkkkkkk (for the next salary increase, next promotion, next offer... had no idea what my end game was for a while but ultimately reached my goal), driiiiiiiiink (to de-stress from work and to see other stressed out alcoholic friends 😹) & staying healthy (ironically...  intoxicate then detox). Then go back to working hard again to pay for the high cost of living, be it rent on the multi-million dollar shoebox, $30 CAD cocktails, premium fresh produces, or $200 CAD gym memberships. Again, some of them personal choices, but when you work so hard you wanna “treat yourself”.

Don’t get me wrong, it was the most valuable experience and so worth the “tuition fee”, because some learning & unlearning could only happen when you’re truly removed from familiarity.

Career Trajectory - For those who’s seen the HK job market, it is almost impossible to turn down some of the opportunities. Remember I was still tempted when approached during my three-months notice period & I would’ve stayed (again), *IF* career was my only priority, just I decided it wasn’t anymore. Bestie was right the last time I was contemplating on the LVMH offer, “the longer you stay here, these offers will keep getting better.” But everyone knew, I just wasn’t ready to re-evaluate my life yet.

Personal Relationships - In a transient city such as HK, friendships and relationships could be on a short-term mentality. (I remember feeling commitment-phobic to even renew a gym contract, because “I wasn’t sure if I’d be here next year still”.) The emphasis of being “self-sufficient” both financially and emotionally, constantly put career/money at a priority.

People always asked me if it’s hard to date in HK. Sure! For all the reasons everyone’s heard. Though, it is also a personal choice, ie. cancelling on dinners/drinks for work all the time; flying for a long business trip after one or two dates; choosing to see friends who I never had time for over dates. If relationships were truly a priority, I would’ve chosen a less demanding job, but again... the importance to be self-sufficient.

Travels - Business (which was eye-opening and glamorous, but also whirlwind and absolutely insane) or personal, the exposure and convenience was amaaazingggg. It also provided a break from the hustle and (at least for me) alcohol. Just depends on if you actually have time to take leave, and can truly detach from work phone and laptop.

Above all, overcoming limiting beliefs and pushing my own limits. Sounds ... but I surprised myself I didn’t whine about the non-stop work-flight-work without sleep for 50 hrs; the three weeks of 12-14 hr days without a single day off; the presentations & meetings disregarding a fever and any personal emotions; the constant need for multi-tasking to prep for the next meetings in the midst of presenting in one meanwhile delegating work to my assistant; or the effort for that little bit of work-life balance with working on the budget while marinating a steak; squeezing in a workout at 6am and realizing how good that feels. What it really means that “you’ll make time for what is important”. ..and finally, letting it all go. I need to think longer term now, which this experience has me much better prepared for whatever future holds.

I’ve learned to “not need anyone” and currently re-learning to consider others in my decisions, while not to compromise my own balance. and... how do you ask for help...? lol

“Y/N? Sam?” Dean’s voice echoed through the empty halls of the bunker.

He huffed, walking from his room to the kitchen, his eyes sweeping left and right trying to find Sam and his brother’s girlfriend.

Assuming the pair was out on a supply run, Dean shrugged and began to make a snack. The three of them were taking a week off from hunting to relax and enjoy the lovely summer weather of northern Kansas. He was just about to spread some mayonnaise on a slice of bread when a shout carried down the hall from the garage.

“NO! Stop it!”

Dean snapped his head toward the doorway and dropped the knife and bread. “Y/N?!”

Dean grabbed a large chopping knife and ran out into the hallway, momentarily sliding on the tile floor as he got traction, before righting himself and sprinting toward the garage where the yell came from. He bounded up the steps into the garage, knife out in front of him, and looked around to see what caused Y/N to yell.

Y/N spun around at the sound of Dean breathing heavy and stared at him with wide eyes, exposing what she was yelling at.

Dean looked at the creature and then back at Y/N, his brows furrowing in confusion.

“Y/N?”

“It’s not what it looks like.”
