The coming change caused by the pandemic first manifested itself in dreams. At the beginnings of psychology, Freud assumed that one must turn to them - to bring out of the unconscious sphere in order to expose one's desires, cravings, fears. Today, many psychologists claim that such attitude is wrong, and that what is instinctive allows us to live smoothly. Our mind is a cosmos in which too much concentration, too much exposure of certain components, manipulation of the unconscious makes us lose ourselves.Capitalism has always used human problems as a tool to exploit social groups. These issues has been pointed out, conceptualized or created as new ones. Through over-interpretation it appropriated the unconscious zone for these purposes. As a result, our subconsciousness ceased to be pure, free.
The pandemic as a time when many everyday phenomena forced by work were changed or pushed aside, revealed this state through dreams. For art, the pure unconsciousness is a natural matter of action that the "Pandemic consequence: dreams" exhibition wishes to selflessly reveal.
The exhibition was part of the Warsaw Gallery Weekend 2020.

Ace of Swords_trial_03
Ace of Swords in Tarot stands for intellectual power and mental agency. It refers to our rationality and intellectual processing. My work was created during the pandemic time when rational structures are being questioned.
Ace of Swords is part of my Handmade Spiritismus project, which focuses on domestic esoteric practices and DIY spirituality. It derives from my fascination with XIX-th century spiritistic séances which were mainly held in private houses as somewhat intimate rituals of the middle class and bourgeoisie. Their main goal was to connect with the non-material world. Séances were organised without the official spiritual agent such as priest and usually with the use of everyday objects.
I look for vernacular equivalents of such “séances” in modern times, focusing on different divination techniques – for example tarot.
During the pandemic time, the hand became a recurring refrain – just like in a series of tarot aces which symbolise 4 basic elements. Hand acts as a controller. It proudly holds the emblem of its power.
My Ace of Swords is a domestic reconstruction, a trial version of home-manufactured recreation of “mystical truths of divination” with the use of the simplest and easily accessible materials.

MONIKA SOSNOWSKA ‘Concrete’ @foksal_gallery_foundation Warsaw Through November 27 The works presented at the exhibition are a commentary on reinforced concrete, an element of modern architecture that is one of the main points of reference in Monika Sosnowska's work. In the artist's previous works, concrete in the form of rubble and single blocks referred to the destruction of modernist heritage and changes in the urban landscape after the political transformation. In the new works, the material begins to absorb each of the structures, while the steel rods serve as a skeleton for the monstrous tissue, whose surface, much like the surface of the skin, bears the marks of interaction with the environment. In the process of creating the sculptures, concrete applied to steel is formed in holes dug in the ground due to its weight and long drying time. The whole process is purely technological, that is, it does not take into account the context of the place where the sculpture is created. The elements just after excavation and cleaning resemble constructed outliers, unrecognizable fragments of ruins. Steel, which in Sosnowska’s work is usually covered with a precise layer of paint, is only ground this time. KONRAD ŻUKOWSKI ‘Palę, sobie, czekając, aż dookoła wsztystko spłonie’ @gallery_hos Warsaw Running through November 13th Partly out of boredom. For pleasure. Against easy ignorance. For money and prestige. To escape from banality. To kill time. Not to get out of practice. By the unattractiveness of the alternatives. A little for fun and to lift the spirits. To unwind. Out of need. For lack of other choices. Because it came up somehow. Through the jumble of thoughts and ideas. By chasing dreams. Affected by the charm of art. Contrary to the artistic circles. In a natural impulse. Out of sensitivity. To break the routine. As part of continuous self-improvement. Because he likes it. The artist doesn't smoke any more. He paints. Żukowski’s works reiterate the themes from the repertoire of medieval painting, surreal visions, feverish dreams or nightmares. Not intentionally. “Out of his head”, as he would say. In the darkness of Żukowski’s canvases, as if in the depths stretching under the closed eyelids, we can see skeletons dance. From the infernal flames human bodies appear – grotesque, mauled, and deformed. Creatures from fantastic bestiaries play. Dreams are also impregnated with scraps of everyday life, resemblances of the immediate environment. Skeletons and herds of horses, sexual fantasies, cheetahs and unicorns constitute a form of dreaming, and paradoxically also of vigilant insomnia that makes it easier to endure sometimes unbearable reality. The exhibition will present Żukowski’s latest paintings, in which he created new universes with impastos. He encapsulated some alternative realities in three-dimensional installations, cabinet-like altars erected for plastic deities. During the exhibition, the artist again fills the walls of the gallery with a swarm of monsters and all living creatures, he separates the brightness of the sheaves from the darkness of the paintings, and reality from sleep, leaving the viewer to indulge in the pleasures of dreaming. #hosgallery #konradzukowski #warsawgalleryweekend #poland #contemporaryart (en HOSgallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVEDwQtILBL/?utm_medium=tumblr
