so warrior cats is generally agreed to take place in Europe.
and y'know what's native to Europe? hamsters. you heard me right, Cricetus cricetus, or the European Hamster, is an endangered rodent native to large swaths of Eurasia.
Y'know what that means? hamster is a valid Warriors name.

My mom's cat named slash and his sister elvira
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slash -> Orangewhisker
Rank: Warrior
Orangewhisker is maybe not the brightest of warriors, but he gets the job done okay. He is surprisingly good at fighting. One of his favorite past-times is to help Tansylight gather herbs, even though he almost always gets the wrong ones. Tansylight seems to appreciate the help anyways. His favorite prey is gophers!
Elvira -> Tansylight
Rank: Medicine cat
Tansylight is a social medicine cat, and likes to spend time around her clanmates more than anything. She always brings someone to help her herb gather, not because she needs the help, but because she'll explode if she isn't around others for as long as it takes to gather herbs. She'll often try to make small talk with her patients, which doesn't always go well, especially if their ailments are more serious... her favorite prey is mockingbirds!

WARRIORS FUN FACT
I read the Warrior Cats books in French and after being in the online community for a while, i noticed some fun name differences :
Did you know that in French, kittens in Warrior Cats are not named with the suffix -kit but with the prefix -little ? I put the original French names behind their literal english translation.
For instance, Firekit (if Rusty was born in Clan) would be named "Little Fire (Petit Feu), Jaykit "Little Jay"(Petit Geai), Yellowkit "Littlefang" (Petit Croc) etc.
On the other hand, apprentices are not named with the suffix -paw but -cloud.
For instance, Firepaw would be named "Firecloud" (Nuage de Feu), or Jaypaw "Jaycloud" (Nuage de Geai), Yellowpaw "Fangcloud" (Nuage de Croc) etc.
Fullgrown Cats with names like -cloud are completely renamed, like Cloudtail, who's name in French is Snowflake (Flocon de Neige). Fernclouds name is Heatherflower (Fleur de Bruyère).
Similarely, there are fullgrown warriors who get the suffix -paw. For instance, Raggedfur is called Greypaw (Patte Grise), Stonefur is called Flintpaw (Patte de Silex) etc.
Also, here are just some French names different from the english version I thought were worth mentionning :
Spottedleaf is called Smallleaf (Petite Feuille) which sounds so cute imo
Darkstripe is called Black Lightning (Eclair Noir) which sounds so edgy lol
Cinderpelt is called Cindermuzzle (Museau Cendré), which sounds so cute. As if her muzzle was covered in cinder dust
Jayfeather is called Jayeye (Oeil de Geai) which I find refers well to his blind, blueish eyes.
Leafpool is called Moonleaf (Feuille de Lune) which sounds nice as well
Hawkfrost is just called Hawkfeather (Plume de Faucon), way less cool than Hawkfrost imo
Brokentail is named Brokenfeather (Plume Brisée)
Anywaaays just had this stuck in my brain and wanted to get it out. ^^

Pokemon names that could also be Warrior Cats names
Sandshrew Hoppip Sunflora Mudkip Dustox Garchomp Tangrowth Purrloin Pansage Deerling Talonflame Rockruff Mudbray Tadbulb Houndstone Like most paradox pokemon names
Controversial ones: Beedrill (are drills natural?) Sandslash (is a slash natural?) Vileplume (is being vile natural? I think only nouns should count so I'm eliminating everything else that has an adjective or a verb, like Primeape) Gengar (apparently a gen is a scientific name for a part of the cheek but I don't think scientific names should count) Cubone (I don't think quantifiers should count either) Dragonair (are dragons natural?) Hoothoot (can the one part be repeated twice?) Slugma (not only is ma slang, I don't know if the concept of mother is natural, same with other words for interpersonal relations, like king or bro) Taillow (are lows natural?) Sealeo (because leo is latin for lion and not english) Shellos (os is scientific for bone) Finneon (once again, neon feels too scientific) Munchlax (lax is close but doesn't feel right) Leafeon (while the passage of time is natural, I believe eons are beyond cats' comprehension) Dusknoir (noir is french but i think it could work really well) Pignite (nite being slang knocks it down) Panpour and Pansear (while sage is obviously a plant, a pour and a sear are debatable) Beartic (a tic is a behaviour so I am unsure) Scatterbug (while a scatter can happen naturally, I doubt they'd describe it as such and therefore use the word) Carbink (while carbs do exist naturally, once again that's too scientific) Cutiefly (I'm sure there's a lot of cuties in natural but that's subjective) Cinderace (ace feels too subjective, like cutie) Blipbug (once again, blip feels too subjective) Ursaluna (both ursa and luna are latin but if it was just called Bearmoon it would have passed perfectly) Floragato (once again, the language issue)
If you have any opinions about this I am begging you to fight in the notes because I am so curious what people think

This is my aunt's cat, Apis! She has 2 kittens here because this is the only photo I have of her lol.
I am Swedish and Apa is Monkey and the -is suffix is kinda like adding an y at the end of a word to make it cute (doggy, Foxy, Kitty)
She has had like a billion litters of kits and is like 13 years old. Very kind and sweet, an inside/outside cat but is also really cool. Once we found a claw in my dog (who hates cats) nose because she bothered Apis. She cuddled my hand even though I was like right by her kits, so very trusting to humans.
Apis -> Siltbrook
Role: Queen (permanent)
Siltbrook, while nowadays prickly with most cats, is gentle as a feather with the clan's kits. Although she may not show it most of the time, she trusts all of her clanmates as if they were her family. She chose to stay in the nursery permanently after she had her second litter, as she figured it would be a lot more convenient for her. She's old enough to be an elder, but refused to retire, even when the leader gently encouraged her to take even just a little break from watching over the clan's kits. She says that she would 'sooner stick her head in a badger's den' than retire. Her favorite prey is newts!

ok so I’ve been thinkin. we all know how clan cats, tribe cats, and ancient cats are named. what about other cat groups? they all seem to have one word names, and that’s boring as hell. so I’ve come up with a naming system! they start out with only the first word when they’re kits, when they grow into adults, they get their full name! i have some examples here for you:
Blood of Rose
Thorn in Bush
Ripple on Pond
Seed of Heart
Moon over Fog
Shine on Mist
Crow on Branch
Green in Moss
Scale of Snake
Shadow over Claw
Wind under Cloud
Flower on Breeze
Leaf under Foot
Poison in Berry
i really like it, it fits with how the cats in the clans/tribes are named, but it’s still different, unique. you’re welcome to use this naming system, just please credit me :D

A name that I'm rather proud of is Marrowmend :] I love me some alliterative names. Xe's a warrior catification of an existing character of mine, so xe doesn't have any story within the warriors universe, but as the name implies I imagine xe'd be a healer.
Oh lordy I must admit to you anon, I saw Marrowmend and my brain said "Ah! Morrowind."
I adore bone names though so xe has my seal of approval!

Cool warrior name idea
Take a warrior name and flip it around to see how well it works.
Ripplemoon —> Moonripple
Shadebranch —> Branchshade
Or even get a bit creative
Badgerfang —> Fangedbadger (imagine how cool it would be to be called Fangedkit.)
Or even just substitute certain words
Heart? Blazekit sounds nice doesn’t it?
Fur/pelt/tail? Describe it! Shimmer- and Kink- are both used and pretty cool in their own right methinks
