two ! yoon's hit list
After a nasty fall, you, world-renowned figure skater and stealer of hearts, are forced into an early retirement. But with a boyfriend who’s the star player in one of Korea’s leading hockey teams and a friend group of trending skaters who refuse to leave you in the dust, the cameras stay on. So, how are you supposed to keep it a secret when Yang Jungwon, your boyfriend’s publicly declared rival and enemy, decides you’re his next target?

When you entered the building, the air conditioning hit you immediately. Your lips tugged into a smile at the smell of the rink, the familiar scent warming your chest. As expected, the hall leading down to the changing rooms was empty since you called ahead to book the entire rink for the next few hours. However, when you reached the booking desk, the usual girl was nowhere to be seen.
With a frown, you leaned over the desk, peering into the staff room. Rentable skates and scuffed helmets littered the room messily, but there was no sign of human life. You hummed in confusion, reaching over the desk to grab the sign-up sheet. Glancing down at the list of bookings, your eyebrows pinched together at the faint sight of someone’s initials.
YJW.
The time written next to it was no later than twenty minutes ago, but it looked like somebody had hastily erased the entire line, clearly not doing a very good job as you could still read it clearly. You shrugged and wrote down a burner name underneath, the one you always used when you came here.
“Probably a mistake,” you mumbled, taking one more glance into the staff room to no avail. The receptionist girl, whose name you could not remember for the life of you, was nowhere to be seen. You tucked a few bills under the clipboard before returning the list where you found it.
You made your way down the hall to where the changing rooms and the entrance to the rink were. The entrance door was slightly ajar, and you could faintly hear movement as you neared. Pausing, you strained your ears to listen. After a few seconds, you knew exactly what you were listening to.
Someone was skating.
Your heart raced as you silently cussed out the receptionist in your head, your feet unknowingly taking you closer to the door. Bypassing the changing rooms, you opened the heavy door as quietly as possible, peeking your head in. The bleachers blocked your view of the apparent trespasser. With one big push, the door opened, and you entered the player’s bench.
As you neared the rink, your skates hung limply at your sides. The cool air refreshed you, kissing your cheeks with featherlike caresses. The sound of blades against ice and the deafening clap of stick against puck made your heart jump to your throat. With shaking hands, you pressed against the tempered glass adorned with years' worth of scratches from constant abuse.
There, in the middle of a rink that should’ve been empty, was someone you couldn’t recognize. A clunky hockey helmet sat atop their crown, obscuring your view from their visage. They moved with grace and precise aggression, skating circles around pylons like they were walking on air but striking the dozens of pucks strewn about with unmistakable power.
You watched as one shot missed the net they’d set up by mere millimetres, followed by their deflating shoulders as they seemingly huffed in annoyance. Your eyes never left their form as they skated to the net to grab their water bottle. They pulled the helmet off, revealing a head of messy brown hair long enough to fall into their—his eyes. As he tipped his head back to gulp down a mouthful of water, his eyes suddenly met your own. You felt the air leave your lungs, stumbling backward as if you’d been punched.
If he recognized you, you didn’t stay long enough to see it in his face. Scrambling back, you swore when you bumped into a garbage can, knocking it against the benches with an embarrassingly loud thud. You could hear him near, the surface of the ice shredding as he moved toward you with alarming speed.
“Hey,” he called, his unnervingly familiar voice only confirming your suspicions. “Are you okay?”
You glanced over your shoulder, panic set in your features. When your eyes met his—sharp, yet with a soft edge to them—a shaky breath escaped from your heaving lungs. He leaned over the dasher board, close enough for you to see concern flickering over his face. Holy fucking shit, you thought, clasping a cold hand over your chapped lips. He’s so fucking pretty.
Of course, with your luck, you’d run into the one person you weren’t, in any circumstance, allowed to interact with: Yang Jungwon, your boyfriend’s publicly declared enemy.
“I won’t take up too much space,” Jungwon said with a smile that punched you in the throat, his cheeks dimpling at the motion. “I’ll keep to my side, promise.” Ending his sentiment with a smirk, lips tilted to one side. It was like he was trying to murder you.
You gawked at him some more, mouth opening and closing like a fish on land. The longer you didn’t speak, the more concern started to slip back into his expression, the cheeky grin fading into a worried frown. With your heart in your stomach, you got up to your feet before you could make any more of a fool out of yourself and did the first thing that came to mind.
The door slammed shut behind you as you ran.
