Ward Kimball, one of Walt’s top animators and good friend, was known for his wit and dry sense of humor .During one of his animation lectures at Cal Arts in the 80s, Kimball opened up by saying “Walt’s dead You missed it.” I’m sure it caught everyone by surprise. When I read that quote I wondered what he meant by that. I think what he was trying to tell the new generation of aspiring animators was not to focus so much on trying to be the next Walt or what he would have done, but to do their own thing and advance the medium of animation in their own way.
