Tell Me About Your Dragon Age Canon!
Since Bioware decided to ignore basically all of the keep decisions we've made throughout the series😒, I thought we could put together a community post where you can share your personal dragon age canon. Reblog with as much or as little detail as you want, photos or drawings are more then welcome. This fandom is so creative with characters and storylines and I really want a place we can all celebrate it. So please tell me about your Thedas!

Warden Commanders not ready for duty.
I wanted to draw some of my Origins Wardens as studies to get the gist of anatomy ecc.
Here in particular we have: Lija Aeducan, Eleictra Tabris and Aedan Cousland (he kept his game given name lmao)
Eleictra is a Leliana romance
Aedan a bit of a troubled Alistair romance (thank you bi mod)
Lija either heavily HC with Sten or someone from Awakening,or romanceless.
They are some of the origins that survive the Blight :)
Hope to draw them more because I am so sane about all Origins and main party interractions you have no idea, but work is keeping me beyond busy oof-

I drew the first five of these uh a little over a year ago and then never finished it because I burned myself out. Today I finished the Inquisition outfit! Art Fight motivates ya'll.
Mirabelle Aeducan, Mira to her friends, is a fashionable warden who loves Purple and Alistair. I really love her wedding-guest outfit, she's wearing Alistair's worry token as a necklace, a farewell gift because she broke up with him so he could be king.
She's still out there, whether Bioware lets me see her or not. She's gonna help kill the elven gods.

"It's so cute that you think I'm giving you a choice."
That's the Warden-Commander Aeducan welcome to the order for ya! XD
---
Just felt nostalgic about the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening Expansion and Nathaniel Howe, and I thought I'd add a more character-accurate touch to his recruitment cutscene in the game :D
Thanks to my patrons for the support and encouragement, making comics and artworks like this possible ;w;

None of the HOFs are as qualified to lead against the blight as Aeducan
Cousland: A noble kid who just had their entire family murdered because of politics they weren't ready for. Their only experience with the blight is stories and maybe the Chantry.
Tabris: An elf under direct oppression of the people of Thedas who's only concern was taking care of their community. They didn't even think about the blight.
Mahariel: An elf who lives away from civil society and doesn't know any customs outside of the Dales. They know nothing the Keeper doesn't want to share which is anything really.
Amell/Surana: Raised in a prison and is kept under strict rule and surveillance which keeps them squishy. They only know about the blight from the Chantry.
Brosca: A street thug that has never gone into the Deep Roads. Knows about killing darkspawn but has never done it.
Aeducan: A royal commander that led an expedition into the Deep Roads and succeeded. The only reason they were exiled was due to a political move that was months in the makings, if not years. Has personally killed darkspawn. Survived the Deep Roads after being striped of everything long enough to find the Grey Wardens.

Introducing: Marja Aeducan
Tumblr media
In Summary:
Grey Warden, Commander of the Grey, Arlessa of Amaranthine, Paragon
Noble Dwarf
Warrior (Champion/Berserker)
Main Weapon: Two-Handed Battleaxe
Commanding; Decisive; Perfectionist; Honorable
Relevant Fic: Of Diamonds And Dust, Shapes in the Silence
more rambling:
Origin:
Endrin's golden child with open ambitions for the throne
She earned the respect and admiration of many through her skill with both military and diplomatic strategies. Despite this, she had few real friends; Gorim and Bhelen were the only people she truly trusted
Her main hindrance was that she does deeply believe in Orzammar's values and system of honor. She considers breaking that honor to be an action borne of weakness and a betrayal of the Ancestors, and holds herself to high standards even when others don't
As such, she refused to kill Trian and was devastated that everyone was so quick to believe she did. She vowed to return, reveal the truth, and take her rightful place as queen
She became a Warden alongside Darvis Brosca, who was recruited by Duncan at the same time
Major Choices:
Negotiated peace with Dalish and werewolves
Allowed Isolde to sacrifice herself for the good of Redcliffe
Saved the mages at the Circle
Defiled the Ashes of Andraste (long story)
Destroyed the Anvil and, after much strife, crowned Bhelen king of Orzammar (again, long story)
Allowed Alistair to duel and kill Loghain at the Landsmeet. Placed Anora on the throne alone
Would have sacrificed herself to the archdemon, had Darvis not performed the Dark Ritual with Morrigan
Party Dynamics:
Best friends with Alistair. They clicked immediately; he was relieved and reassured to have someone so decisive take the lead after Ostagar, and she was endeared (and occasionally baffled) by his sincere support and friendship
Grew fond of Sten over time. They got off on the wrong foot, but eventually learned to communicate better and realized they had a lot in common
Thinks Shale is the coolest and peppered it constantly with questions it couldn't remember the answers to. Shale was annoyed occasionally, but also flattered
Her friendship with Oghren can be complicated, but he understands her conflicting feelings toward Orzammar like few can. They've both been betrayed by their Caste, they both feel indebted to their society despite that, and they both resist talking about those feelings and end up drinking together about them instead
If I talk about Darvis we'll be here all day but suffice to say they hated each other at first, then with time and growth on both their parts formed a very strong bond. They're narrative foils; they're reluctant friends; they're ride-or-die comrades; they're in-laws. They're everything to me
Romance:
Has a genuinely sweet romance with Leliana, whose own complicated past with politics and court life gives her insight to Marja's conflict; Marja, in turn, finds Leliana's ability to find beauty in the world inspiring
Unfortunately, some of the beliefs they hold can't be reconciled, and eventually put strain on their relationship. When Marja's desecration of the ashes at Haven is revealed, they break up for good
Despite resolutions to forgo romance afterwards, she finds herself charmed by Sigrun's cheerful pragmatism and determination, and the two begin an informal relationship
Epilogue:
She survives her encounter with the archdemon, but is left with aftereffects; these mainly manifest as chronic pain and a heightened sensitivity to the Blight. Due to her chronic pain and the resulting exhaustion on her body, she takes to using a cane to get around
Becomes Arlessa of Amaranthine and commands the Fereldan Wardens from a strategic role, while Solenne Kader is sent from Orlais to act as commander in the field
Her Calling begins early, and she begins making arrangements for her last mission. Alistair and Sigrun manage to convince her to quest for a cure instead. She and Sigrun leave together on this quest, and haven't been seen since
Misc:
She acquires an interest in herbalism while on the surface, and keeps a book of dried flowers and plants she's collected
Despite being raised in luxury, she'll choose practicality over fashion every time, and doesn't really miss the jewels and trinkets she acquired as a Noble. What she does miss are the luxurious hot baths powered by the lava pools of Orzammar
While she always kind of knew she was a lesbian, she never acted on it due to the social pressures in Orzammar over having children. Her time on the surface during the Blight was the first time she was really able to explore her sexuality and general gender presentation, and it was a lot to wrap her head around
Although she doesn't have or want children of her own, she is the Cool Aunt to no less than four kids (Kieran, Gorim's kid, Oghren's kid, and Baby Endrin)
The game mabari imprinted on Darvis rather than her; howeever, during the Awakening era, Anora gifts her a mabari puppy which she names Astyth
Shortly after her reunion with Gorim in Denerim, she has an identity crisis and indulged in one of my favorite tropes, the Dramatic Character Moment Haircut (before and after pictured below)

The parts of DAI BioWare thinks I care about:
Close all these damn rifts!
WOULD YOU LIKE SOME UNKILLABLE BEARS IN THE HINTERLANDS?
Defeat Corypheus!
Destroy the Venatori!
Collect a BILLION useless shards!
Varric, back on his bullshit again (re: the “Real” Bianca)
WHO IS THE DREAD WOLF????
The parts of DAI I actually care about (in my canon):
HAWKE (???!?!)
“I have a Warden friend named Alistair…”
Eavesdropping on random Dwarves at the Winter Palace: “Did you hear the Paragon Aeducan was declared dead by King Harrowmont?”
The Very Much Alive Paragon Aeducan, writing Inquisitor Adaar: “Alistair is a dear friend and I would not have him lost to your Inquisition… :))))))))”
Morrigan: “I used to travel with the Hero of Ferelden. I wish things did not have to end the way they did…” sobs
Nightmare to Hawke in the Fade: “Your Grey Warden, Anders is going to die, just like your family, and everyone you ever cared about.” flops on the floor, sobbing, feral
The implication that the Warden Commander not only knows where the Champion of Kirkwall and his apostate husband who blew up the Chantry have been hiding, but that THE Hero of Ferelden, Hawke, and their respective partners are all besties who have been up to some wild shenanigans for the past ten years
Alistair (voice quivering): “Maker, I miss that Warden.” tearing out my hair, screaming, frothing at the mouth
BONUS: Varric gifting Cassandra Pentaghast his fantasy smut. (I ship it)

31 days of Dragon Age
Day 1: Meet my Hero of Fereldan, Rhein Aeducan
Tumblr media
Art by @needlesslycryptic
Spoiled, entitled, and destined for greatness, Princess Rhein Aeducan was the only child of King Endrin and his beloved wife Griet. A proud warrior and staunchly conservative voice when it suited her, Rhein was posed to become the honorary Commander of the King’s forces when she lost her position, her title, and her place in the histories. Refusing to give up on her vengeance and her restoration to the shaperate, she did everything in her power to manoeuvre herself back into influence in Orzammar, finally holding the posts of Paragon, guardian of the heir Endrin, advisor to King Harrowmont, Warden-Commander of Fereldan and Arlessa of Amaranthine.
A contradiction of traditionalism and self-serving ambition, Rhein was wed to the warden Alistair, who denounced his claim to the throne of Fereldan to be his wife’s proxy in the wardens, often doing her bidding whilst she was in Orzammar with her second Gorim Saelac. On his death she finally returned to Weisshaupt to lay his memorial stone, before embarking on a new mission with Paragon Davri, Warden Carver Hawke, and new Warden-Recruit Thom Rainier.

AEDUCAN I • JOINING
for veilguard30 day 1 — joining | 364 words | full collection here
It is common knowledge that ingesting darkspawn blood is a death sentence, and every warrior who’s still got their Stone sense knows that you keep your helmet on and your mouth shut unless you’re barking a necessary order. But to do it willingly? The Wardens must be sky-touched.
So what does that make you, Aeducan? Magni thinks bitterly as they look at the chalice in Duncan’s hands: a decorative thing wrought in silver and droplets of black blood rolling down the sides.
Around him are the two other recruits. One human died in an instant from the poison, the other died from a lack of a backbone, unable to see things through.
He’d agreed to come with the Wardens to have a chance at life topside, just like Harrowmont had tried to move for. But this is not a new chance at life, not some sort of mercy, he realises. This will be nothing more than a suspended death sentence if he survives — or an instant one, should the Ancestors decide to be merciful.
Off to the side, Magni can practically feel the worry bursting from the younger Warden, who is anxiously rubbing some kind of golden token between a thumb and finger.
“The Joining is not yet complete,” Duncan intones, offering out the chalice to him. It smells wretched, turning his stomach several different ways and Magni balls up his fist to stop himself from knocking it out of the topsider’s hand. He didn’t fight his way through the darkspawn with nothing but a rock and a rusted axe to cower before them here.  “You are called upon to submit yourself to the Taint, for the greater good.”
Their fingers flex out, and they look Duncan in the eye. When the commander does not waver, he takes the chalice from the human. He takes a sip, and it takes every inch of their being to not choke on it, forcing it down with an audible swallow. It tastes like death, corrupted, burning their insides as the vile taint takes hold.
As the topside world around him goes dark, Magni Aeducan’s last thought is of Bhelen. Here’s that death of mine you crave, brother.

thinking about. Gorim. who did everything he could. he did his absolute goddamn best to help you, to save you, to give you every single chance to survive your death sentence. he fought on your behalf. he did everything in his power and still failed. and as one last desparate effort - he told you where to find the Grey Wardens.
and then he had to leave. he couldn't so much as watch you walk into the Deep Roads. he had to make his way to Denerim without the person he'd so loyally served and cherished, on the surface for the first time on his own. and he hears nothing of you. why would he? you're with the Wardens now, ancestors willing.
maybe he clings to that. you, the Commander of house Aeducan, surely would not succumb before you found them. you must be with the Wardens. you're a Grey Warden, you will survive, you will find Denerim and Gorim. You will meet again.
But then Loghain returns, with his troops, without the King, without the Grey Wardens. With them comes news: Ferelden's army was decimated by the darkspawn horde, Ostagar overrun.
The Grey Wardens wiped out.
