still laughing over that one time someone took "rakdos cultists do a lot of blue collar and pink collar labor as their day jobs" to mean "preschool teachers and all other traditionally feminine jobs are usually performed by cultists who have dedicated their lives in service to the demon lord of chaos and riots" instead of the very obvious "those in charge of the entertainment sector who act as a release valve to a pressure cooker police state do sex work". they operate brothels and organize orgies. its, like, explicitly stated in canon? repeatedly?
brb, dropping my toddler off at murder clown daycare because i forgot that adult theatre actors perform labor and prostitution is a real career that exists in every society ever, and a setting like ravnica isnt complete without an answer to the question "where is the sex industry?"
#im still CONVINCED that that is (or at least was before the bloodwitch thing. 75% chance its still part of it) hekara's day job#its... its literally a form of worship for them#we saw mundane rakdos jobs in every ravnica set prior to the post-war of the spark shortening and streamlining of#every mtg story#'how do they stay in business?' they. have. day. jobs.#we see them doing other work as dockhands and vendors and more mundane street performers and working in restaurants#ravnica is an in-depth and thoughtfully designed world that. like. makes sense#mtg#(maybe we saw some mundane rakdos cultists in mkm? i dont quite remember. sowwy)

[Ravnica Battlemap]Firemind Vessel 32x56
Before the War of the Spark, Nicol Bolas slew Niv-Mizzet. Although the battle was brief, the Firemind mounted an impressive assault that demonstrated his immense thaumaturgical, mental, and physical might. Nicol Bolas and Niv-Mizzet engaged each other in epic combat that destroyed large portions of the city. The two dragons fought using a staggering array of magical, physical, and aerial attacks in which both drew blood. Bolas was even surprised when his mind-shattering touch could not penetrate the Firemind's mental barriers. As the fight wore on, Niv sensed his eventual defeat. After Niv collapsed a huge chunk of the city onto Bolas at a Simic zonot, Bolas emerged in a dark sphere of death and destruction, causing Niv to experience fear for the first time. Contemplating this strange feeling, Niv deemed it unworthy of the Firemind and brushed it aside as he roared in defiance and leaped toward his impending death. In the end, Niv-Mizzet’s skull and charred bones were all that remained.
However, the Firemind had been preparing for this. Together with Ugin, Niv-Mizzet made preparations to preserve his ghost in a device of his design. The little silver box with delicate filigree, sparking gears, and shimmering crystals could project Niv's essence above it and would preserve his ghost for at least a hundred years. With Sarkhan Vol's assistance, the box was delivered to the Meditation Plane for safekeeping under Ugin's watch. The Firemind provided clues for Jace, Vraska, and Ral Zarek to bring him back.

Idk if this card is canon or not but here me out:
The existence of this statue on Theros means some Planeswalker either built or commissioned it. Was it Liliana? The Gatewatch (sans Lili, bc she was in hiding directly after)? Did Nahiri help with her stone magic? If Liliana had it commissioned, do the rest of the Gatewatch know it exists? If not, does Lili know?
Gideon died on a world that was not his own, saving someone nobody else deemed worthy of saving. His sacrifice saved not only all of Ravnica but the entire multiverse. Do the people of Theros know that Gideon saved them, or do the few people who knew he existed still believe he died as Kytheon of Iroas?

A small headcanon
Niv-Mizzet is a HECK of a lot younger than Nicol Bolas. Like, he's a kid compared to him. That's why the fight was so short.
Or is that just the truth?

War of the Spark fix-it fic that's also the only "crack treated seriously" I have ever and possibly will ever write
If you hate the wots story and wanna see Nicol Bolas get dunked on and treated like the youngest sibling then boy have I got the niche fic for you
#mtg#wots#war of the spark#wots fix it#nicol bolas#ravnica#also including niv mizzet being SO embarrassed about his own civic pride#i use old magic lore with all the reverence of someone spitting on the mona lisa

Magic the gathering has a small problem with the consistency of how it’s characters are drawn but it mostly isn’t too bad. Except for two of my FAVOURITE CHARACTERS from ravnica that were completely different in war of the spark. That is specifically Krenko and Fblthp
These are their first cards
Fblthp is a poor little homunculus lost in a big city, he’s cute and simple with most of his head barely reaching above his shoulders. He is squat and short and hates crowds and really looks like a homunculus. But in his war of the spark card he looks like this. . .
Kinda skinny, has a neck, eye is more bulging but still smaller looking on his head. He looks more human but that only slips into the uncanny valley. He looks wierd and I don’t like it. It looks like the artist heard a description of Fblthp but was not once shown what he looked like.
But now let’s look at krenko, he is pointy and sharp and mean. He as clever as he looks cruel, with a face slicked back above his eyes to leave room for his crown. He has a big outward nose and a thin hunched frame and seems very ready to get his hands dirty. But his war of the spark card looks like this. . .
He is larger, with a wider frame and with a pronounced brow line. His eyes are small and his nose is now hooked and has a pronounced bridge. I don’t hate it as much as the Fblthp but this is not the same goblin. They would never have this drastic redesign with any of their human characters and it really annoys me. But what annoys me more is that I love both of these cards mechanically but will never use them because of this :(

i would play you on arena if you'd like!!
alas I do not have arena, just a bit of a paper collection 😔
#nothing serious I was never super competitive about it. just about a shoebox full give or take several decks worth cards#but i started just after ahmonket block and I've grabbed the occasional pack but haven't played much since uhh... ikoria? new campena?#okay so I looked up wikipedia. I dabbled in new capena but the last time I did anything semiserious would've been the kanigawa prerelease d#also was anyone going to tell me that sets have ridiculous codenames in development or was I just supposed to learn that myself#The ravnica guilds sets were spaghetti and meatball. dominaria was Soup. war of the spark was milk.#asks

Why are backdrop sets a thing? If we are going to Ravnica and I don't get what I expect from Ravnica, im disappointmented. If the set does well, it still feels like a waste of Ravnica. Duskmourne seems similar where it could be a spooky house on any plane. Why are these sets so frequent now
So frequent? (War of the Spark, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, and Murders at Karlov Manor) We've done three, two of which (War and Caverns) were successful.
