The funny thing about this playlist is that Ian is my favorite character but this was the hardest of all playlists to make. Constantly I was adding a song and then removing it because it just didn't feel right, it wasn't Ian enough. All other playlists felt very in character and this one I just couldn't get right, I was never satisfied.
For exemple, he was just a kid being groomed but at the same time he didn't feel like some kind of innocent defenseless child, he thought he was in control. Hence, "Suck My Kiss". This song is very sexy, flirty, aggressive, imposing, intense. That's the vibe I wanted to go with Ian.
Also, he first saw Kash as some kind of victim in the sense that Kash is gay, so by his logic, it justifies what he does to Linda, why he lies and cheats, and that's the way I wanted to portray Ian. All about him is kind of in between and thats what I wanted. “Kerosene” is that for me. Not love but wanting to be loved, wanting to be seen, wanting to be something to someone, putting himself in someone else's pocket to feel belonged, accepting the circumstances cause it feels like the only way to obtain what he wants. Important: it's not passion. It's not real. There's no fire but just a flame, and so he inflates it with kerosene. That is, until Mick comes and then Ian sees what's real fire.
Then there's a series Mickey Milkovich songs: “Sweet Dreams, TN”, perfect puppy first love song to my boy Ian Gallagher, just yearning for Mickey constantly throughout S1 and S2. "Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You" + "We Might Even Be Falling In Love" makes me think of Ian visiting Mick in juvie S1E1. "Lonely Boy" would be for me getting back to Mickey S2 without thinking twice cause he's madly in love and seeing Mickey leaving him easily by throwing himself at juvie again. When I listen to “Hot Knife” I think about S3 gallavich being little menaces beating Ned and robbing his wife and also their first kiss. "Stay On Your Mind" for me is aftermatch S3E6 cause Mick became distant and Ian wants him to be thinking of him. "Tighten Up” I wanted it to be post-S3E6 trying to talk to Mickey and that being the trigger for his bipolar (last verse part "living just to be going/going just to be sane/all the while without knowing/such a shame"). “Lilac Wine” is S3E11 wedding day, getting drunk and being miserable.
“Runaway” should be S3E12 Ian joining the army; “Seven Nation Army” is him joining + helicopter + turning back to Chicago. “Townie” + "New Body Rhumba" + “Art Deco” is S4 impulsive, manic, induced in drugs, club dancer Ian. “Disco” would be S4E8's gallavich club big kiss scene; “Closet Lunatic” would be S4's bipolar Ian cause no one is admitting something wrong with him.
“Totally Wired” would be S5 first half, living with Mickey; “Lithium” + “Territorial Pissings” is S5E6 Yev's kidnap. “Where Is My Mind?” is about being caught by the cops and S5E7 being put in the mental hospital. “Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine” + “Kill the Medicine Man” is him refusing treatment. “The Bourne Identity” is S5E8 when Mickey left and Debbie had to go get him. “Ultraviolence” is the S5E10 docks scene when they fight and get drunk and kiss and fuck before Ian gets caught because of Sammi.
“Masterpiece” + "Dosed" is S5E11-12 him escaping with Monica and noticing what they have in common but also that they're completely different, seeing the life she lives because of the bipolar and the lack of meds and realizing that's not who he is and that's not how he wants to live. "Would?" + "Fire Water" + “WDYWFM?” + “Let Me Go” are S5E12 gallavich break up songs.
"Crack Baby” + “I Have No Hometown” is S6E1-3 depressive Ian fase. “Wiped Out!” is S6E3 almost suicide attempt. “Drift” + "Y" + “Mário de Andrade/Selvagem" is S6/S7 beginning again and becoming an EMT Ian. It's all about griefing the life he used to have and aspired, accepting his reality and gaining perspective.
“New Person Same Old Mistake” + “Gotta Get Away” + "So Real” are all S7E10-11 gallavich songs. “Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up” is S7E12 leaving the Mexico border and coming home and everything sucks and Monica's dead, which is "Mr. Grieves" and the beggining of his new maniac epiosde.
Then my favorite songs! “American Jesus” + “Jesus Lived in a Motel Room” + “Bombtrack” are the perfect S8 Gay Jesus songs to me. While "Prison Décor" is S9E1 Ian's manic first round at jail cause of Gay Jesus and not wanting Fiona to bail him out,"Pink + White" is his S9E6 reunion with Mickey. "Morning Theft" is a love letter about all he and Mickey had to go through and all the breakups to finally be back together.
"Is It True" is S10E8 Ian breaking Mickey's heart (again lol) with the whole marriage thing. “Homissexual” is Mickey with Byron; “Maybe” + “Lover, You Should've Come Over" is him missing Mickey and wanting to marry him. At last, “Soldier of Love” and “Real Love Baby” are the final, happy ending, married until death takes them apart gallavich finale he deserves.
For days I've been feeling my body cold and dead To warn me That I struggle like if I'm crazy and a lot it's few Is it what it is falling in love? For days, I've been feeling my body cold and hollow I let it pass And I forget all the time and little by little I feel another one on my place — Mário de Andrade / Selvagem, Boogarins

Whats the appeal of blue sky. I’ve never heard of it before. Is the community better or is about privacy or what?
its more for people looking for a replacement for twitter, since now that place is overrun with AI and bots and trolls and right wingers and misery and now they changed how the block feature worked, and EVERYONE hated that
if you ask me, i dont really understand why people dont just come back to tumblr. it has everything art communities keep asking for: the ability to edit posts, highly craftable blogs and posts for presentation purposes, a huge character limit, a robust tagging system that you can use for either sorting your own work on your blog or to get more eyes on it in tags, or to better hide things you dont like. its great.
but idk. the porn rules still really turn a lot of people off, even though naughty work is allowed here again so long as its cropped or censored or what have you.
so, Tumblr, I think, is still the best place to be if tumblr is what you want.
Bluesky is the current best "twitter killer" if you're specifically looking to fill that hole. Ive been on it for about a year or so because the furry community claimed it first, but every time Musk does something fucking moronic, more people go "hey wait, this place IS pretty neat" and join the party.
i dont fully agree with how blocking works there either, but so far I havent had a problem... (you can find out who is blocking you, which makes me uneasy. I like to have a little privacy, not everything I do online needs to be on display on my profiles. I personally dont even like when my 'likes' are public, another win for tumblr. but you cant win them all. unless you're on tumblr and dont mind not posting porn, then tumblr has it all. but I DIGRESS......)
but on Bluesky, you can: use tags in a similar way as you do on tumblr, to organize your own work or use it for discoverability. you can have slightly more control over the interactivity of your post (same as here, where you can limit comments. You can disable quote posting, but you cant stop people from "retweeting" though, which is a shame. I enjoy being able to nuke the ability to reblog my more intimately personal posts on tumblr, but its something.)
And, kind of like custom tags, you can create custom "feeds." You can use these feeds to discover other people's work out there, or you can use them for people to sort through your stuff too. I have one for only my art and Werepire AU so far. like this:
Tumblr media
And in general, the community SO FAR seems dedicated to keeping the space more positive, since rage bait and contrarianism and infighting runs rampant on twitter. theres a little bit more typing room for nuanced thoughts on bluesky, people are more willing to have mature discussions, at least from what I can tell in the circles im in. you're less at risk for aggressive randos to show up in your space because its not algorithm based, its based solely on who you follow (yayyyy!!) or the feeds you subscribe to.
Also just the fact that most people on the platform right now are just excited they can share art and say things without 200 bots swarming to their posts, or the twitter algorithm stomping their work into the dirt because they posted a link, had too long of a caption, had too many hashtags, too LITTLE hashtags, said unknown tweet-suppressing words, or it was in a thread, or NOT in a thread, etc etc etc etc etc
and theres porn. of course.

Thoughts on Social Networks (the Future) (Manifesto?)
i think one of my big goals for programming would be to create functional social networks. ive already taught myself the groundwork for a making a basic messageboard a la pre-4-chan sites in japan.
unrelated to my programming skill, i feel like we should bring back forums, but still keep the rapid nature that i like about twitter.
i love that on smth like twitter i can just say my thoughts into the void an someone might enjoy them. i also like the old internet style of forums and i 1000% apriciate those who answer my obscure forums, especially those on the casio calculator forums so i could learn how to program my casio calculator, but thats a story for a different time
maybe for this new twitter x forum design strategy we could rewrite the hyper-contained nature of forum threads and topics and make them more fluid, maybe containing them to topics via hashtags. ofc things like html tag-esc styles to posts, i especially like the way discord does it, however i use *(insert thing here)* to emphasize things, and italicising it is not what i mean, so that could be improved upon.
also the character count can be limited because yea. like does anyone really like that? its either a non existant problem or something to break your pace while writing something big and important, in an almost innapropriate-for-the-situation manner.
I also feel like message boards and oekaki boards should be brought back, i think they could be very fun, but we (the designers/creators of the sites) would need to be careful to avoid a situation to the tschernobyl-nuclear-reaction-site-ish nature of 4chan and whatever happened to 8chan (i think) that got it to be destroyed because of hyper-harmful political effects (if i remember correctly)
for a long time now ive also envisioned a social network that revolves around music, almost like an imageboard but with mp3 files.
[unfortunately for audiophiles] mp3 files would be the best option considering theyre much less limited than midi, but arent as heavy as wav or flacc files. maybe ogg files would be a better choice considering their universal nature, but does every browser support it?
also being able to comment and like posts would be mandatory, and maybe an in-browser lightweight audio file editor could be added for things like sneak peeks or possibly to create a culture of remixes like nightcore, chopping up songs, slowed versions, fast versions, a=432 versions, extended mixes, etc.
also, my most favorite idea for music yet, GIF ALBUM COVERS! i dont care how you pronounce it (seriously why is this still a thing), but i feel like it would be super cool to have gif album covers. some problems for looking in the future would be the limited color nature of some gif formats, and loading times, but regardless its still a cool idea. think of the possibilities! ofc theres basic things like simple moving images or short animations or color changes, but you could also have different versions of album covers because one image just doesnt do the trick, you could have album covers that change the language for more international understanding, you could have animations that sync to the beat of the song, the possibilities are endless
although, there is one end. file sizes for both covers and songs alike would be needed. maybe some of the remixes i suggested earlier could have a json file that adds those changes instead of an entirely new mp3 file, similar to sheet music, although there would need to be a quick way to create those effects on the fly. I also really dont want to end up in the pitfall that most modern websites end up in, where they sacrifice efficient web browsing for instead taking your personal information in inneficient javascript and making it take a whole half-hour to scroll through a simple webpage. i know that in earlier internet days, when gifs were all the rage, webpages would get really slow from all of the animations that were playing, and this is still an issue till this day
anyways that concules my ted talk
