Yelena Belova x Reader
Word Count: 2554
Warnings: cussing, mention of guns
Things in italics are flashbacks
Дорогой (dorogoy) = darling
A/N: so even tho i just posted a fic request on my page, i decided to put a little something out for my first yelena x reader fic
if anyone else wants to do the request still, PLEASE feel free, i’d love to read it!!
If there was one thing about Yelena, it was that she was stubborn. Too stubborn for her own good sometimes, and although it pissed you off every once in a while, it was also one of the many things you admire about her.
From the minute Yelena walked into the Avengers compound, you knew she was special. You also knew you would have to work for her time and attention, from what Natasha told you.
Being held in the Red room for so many years and being told that emotion was a weakness made Yelena cold and tough, never allowing herself to get close to anyone, to protect herself. She wouldn’t let anything bad happen to herself ever again, and walking into a place full of new people made her scared. But she put on a tough face and many walls up, never letting anyone see the side of her that she rarely showed to herself when she was alone.
Since you met her, you wanted to know more about the mysterious girl that didn’t let anyone in, although Natasha warned you. “She’s never going to let that happen, Y/N, trust me,” she’d say. But you too were stubborn and had your mind set on getting to know the blonde that caught your eye.
So, any chance you had, you’d hang around Yelena, who was either with Natasha, in her room, or training. She rarely hung around the rest of the group, mainly because she wasn’t comfortable with anyone yet. Choosing not to be in her room alone with her yet, to respect her privacy, you’d ask Natasha if you could tag along to whatever plans she and Yelena had, whether it was grocery shopping, going to the park, or just hanging out and watching a movie.
Natasha let you most of the time, as long as Yelena was okay with it. Yelena rarely objected, but only because you were one of the only people that didn’t annoy her. Although she was hesitant to be around anyone that wasn’t Natasha, she found you amusing. Since you and Nat were so close, she loved to hear all of the stories you would tell her from the time you two spent together, always asking for more.
Her face would show the slightest peak of joy whenever she’d hear about some stupid thing you and Nat participated in. It was nice seeing her look in some way other than annoyed or neutral.
The story was a little different when you and Yelena were alone. Any time you’d try to talk to her, she’d give you short, composed responses before heading back to her room by herself. Or, she simply would run away before you had the chance to open your mouth.
Either way, you didn’t stop. Knowing Natasha, who was similar to Yelena when she first arrived at the compound, you knew you’d eventually break Yelena and get her to be comfortable around you. You didn’t want to push her boundaries if she wasn’t ready, but you also yearned for the day you could have a full conversation with Yelena, without her being so distant.
//
Around the compound, you were known to be the most physically affectionate person, often holding hands with Wanda or Nat, cuddling up on the couch with whoever was willing, and giving random hugs out to people on any given day.
The only person that you have yet to be affectionate with was Yelena.
Natasha warned you from the beginning that Yelena didn’t like to be touched or to even be shown any kind of affection. She wasn’t used to it and it made her uncomfortable.
You respected her wishes, as you understood why she was so uncomfortable with it, but that didn’t stop you from testing the boundary lines.
It started with a simply high five. Well, what was supposed to be a high five.
Yelena and Nat were coming back from a 3-day mission today, the first one since Yelena joined the team. You were so excited to welcome them back, along with a few of the others that were in the house. Most of the team members were away on missions, so it was just you, Wanda, Sam, and Peter.
Peter and Wanda decided to throw a little party, to welcome Yelena and Nat back, as well as welcome Yelena to the group. It had already been a few weeks since she had joined, but Wanda insisted on welcoming Yelena properly.
Peter was in charge of getting the snacks and drinks, Sam the decorations, and you and Wanda cleared the living room to get it ready. The party wasn’t set to be anything grand, but to show Yelena how excited everyone was for her to join the team.
“Guys, I think they’re here,” Peter yelled as he looked out of the window, spotting Nat and Yelena walking towards the front door. That was your que to hide, so you chose to get behind one of the couches. A few moments went by before you heard the front door open and close.
Footsteps filled the hallway as you tried not to be seen by the two girls. You heard two pairs of feet stop right by the entrance of the living room.
“What the fuck?”
“SURPRISE!” You sprung up from behind the couch as the lights were flicked on. Yelena quickly drew out her gun, pointing it, ready to shoot.
“Yelena, no, it’s okay!” Nat blocked Yelena from firing the gun, as the blonde looked around the room to see familiar faces, with a shocked look on her own. “What the hell is this?”
Wanda and Peter ran over to Nat and Yelena, Wanda embracing Nat in a hug as Peter stood beside the two, smiling. “We’re so glad you guys are back! And Yelena, we wanted to properly welcome you to the team with a surprise party!”
Yelena frowned. “I almost shot you, was that supposed to be the surprise?” You let out a sly chuckle, watching Peter’s face turn from joy to embarrassment. Walking over to the rest of the group, you welcomed Nat back with a hug, as she gladly returned the embrace.
“How was it?”
Nat let you go to give Sam a quick side hug, as you stood by Yelena, looking between her and Nat, waiting for someone to answer.
“It was good! Difficult, but good. Honestly, Yelena did most of the work, she is impressive,” Nat boasted, smiling brightly at her sister. You smiled at Yelena, who pursed her lips in a tight grin as she stood there awkwardly.
You raised your hand in the air to give her a high five, but she just stared at you, not doing anything. Grabbing her hand, you quickly high fived your hand with her’s, which made her freeze. A frown appeared on her face, her body tensing up and not moving.
“Excuse me,” she said, scurrying off down the hallway toward the bedrooms. Everyone watched her leave, then focus their attention back to you, making you shrug in confusion.
“Was it something I said?” Sam asked, lightening the mood.
//
The days leading up to Yelena having to go on another mission, you decided to try and sneak in a few more attempts at physical touch.
The majority of them were small little bits of affection, ones that you could pass off as “accidents”, like touching her hand as you two reached for the last banana in the fruit bowl, and grabbing the sides of her arms to move her to the side as you two did the awkward little sidewalk dance while trying to walk past each other. Things that wouldn’t be a big deal to the average person.
It had been about a month since Yelena got back from her last mission, a month since the high five incident and you could tell that Yelena was starting to come around to the idea of being touched in small ways. So those little “experiments” didn’t make her tense and uncomfortable like they would have before.
You two had also gotten closer in the past month, now being able to be in the same space for longer than a few minutes. Yelena now got a little excited whenever she saw you in the kitchen during her 11pm snack runs, or in the hallways in between training sessions. She began cracking jokes with you and even offering to go on errands with you instead of Natasha.
Eventually, Yelena began seeking you out, learning your schedule so she could see you throughout the day. She had never had someone want to get to know her like you did, so this whole situation was new territory for her. She didn’t understand why she wanted to be around you so much, when just a few weeks ago, you hadn’t even crossed her mind.
Those new little “touches” of affection gave her a fuzzy feeling in her body, like electricity had struck her, and that kind of freaked her out. She probably would have ran away by now if you hadn’t been so kind and gentle about everything. Yelena appreciated that you respected her disdain for being touched, but now that you had shown her that it was okay and that you weren’t going to hurt her, she looked forward to being around you.
She didn’t realize it yet, but she was developing quite the crush on you, something she’d never felt before. It was foreign and scary, she thought something was wrong with her. Everything on the internet said the same thing, but she wasn't convinced. No, she couldn’t have a crush on you, she barely knew you.
Yet no matter what, she couldn’t get you out of her head.
Yelena was set to head out on her second big mission, lasting for about a month, if not longer. Everyone in the compound was sad to see her go, knowing they wouldn’t see her for a while. Yelena had grown closer with everyone on the team, especially you and Wanda.
It was always a gloomy day saying bye to one of your teammates, but this one felt especially hard. Although the two of you just began getting close, you finally got a feel of what Yelena could be like under her tough exterior, and unfortunately you figured that all of the work you did getting closer to her would be gone after this mission.
For a lot of newer people, missions usually mess with their heads, and someone like Yelena doesn’t take things lightly. The sad truth was that she would probably return to the compound in the same state she came in.
You’d never admit it, but you had feelings for her. It was a lot of work getting to know her, but you never stopped, not even on the days when she was being so stubborn it would make anyone else give up. She was strong-willed and determined, but you learned that she was also generous and funny, kind even.
You loved the way she scrunched her nose when she laughed at something you’d say, and the way her eyes would light up when you came in the room, often hearing “Y/N! It’s so good to see you дорогой!”
A soft knock on your door brought you out of your thoughts. You were getting ready to go with Nat and Wanda to see Yelena off, when you found the blonde standing in the doorframe.
“Knock knock,” she said, waiting outside of your room. You smiled seeing her. She looked exhausted, probably not getting much sleep with the nerves from the upcoming mission. But still, she looked beautiful as ever.
“Hey, Yelena, what’s up?” She walked in, looking around your room, taking in the decorations. You realized this is the first time she’d ever seen your bedroom. She walked over to your desk, picking up a stuffed animal that you’ve had since you were a baby.
“Cute,” she smiled, setting the animal back down and turning to face you. You noticed her fidgeting with her rings nervously.
“Is everything okay?” Yelena nodded quickly, but her face said otherwise. You knew she wouldn’t say it if she was nervous, so you patted the spot right next to you on your bed.
Hesitantly, she took a seat, making sure to leave plenty of room so her leg wouldn’t touch yours. You could smell her perfume even from where she was sitting, the smell of vanilla and tobacco. It had a nice smell, and fit her perfectly.
“Your room is nice,” she said, almost in a whisper. Her voice cracked, like she wanted to cry, but she’d never let that happen, not in front of you. You smiled at her as a thanks, looking at her when she turned her head to look at you. “Clint said this mission is supposed to be a big one, it’ll probably be challenging.”
She spoke in a ‘matter-of-fact’ tone, making sure she convinced you that she wasn’t scared or anything other than fine.
Nodding, you shifted in your seat, making the blonde jump slightly. A quick ‘sorry’ left your lips as you settled her.
“You know, it’s okay to be a little nervous,” you replied, looking into her eyes. She frowned.
“Who said I was nervous?” A smirk set on your mouth, stifling a laugh. “I guess no one, I just hope you know it’s okay if you are. A lot of us get nervous before missions.”
Times like this, you wished you could just jump on her and give her the biggest hug, but you two weren’t there yet in your friendship, and that’s okay.
A comforting silence fell between the two of you, Yelena studying parts of your room, and you trying not to stare at her.
“Maybe I am a little nervous,” she whispered, keeping her head turned from you so you wouldn’t see the single tear that was trying to fall from her eye.
“That’s okay. You’re going to do a great job,” you assured her. She turned to look at you with a small smile.
Taking a small leap of faith, hoping you wouldn’t ruin the moment, you placed your hand on top of Yelena’s, giving it a quick squeeze. She snapped her head to look at the contact, freezing in place.
“I’m sorry,” you said, moving your hand. Yelena looked at your face and then back to your hand, not sure of what to say. “What was that?”
Yelena felt something during that moment, something she’d never felt before when being touched by you, by anyone. Comforted, maybe?
You paused, trying to figure out what to say. “Um, I was comforting you, I’m sorry if I overstepped.”
She shook her head, making a disgusted look on her face. “That was so gross.” But then, she looked at you again, pausing for a minute. Her cheeks were flushed, you could tell she was blushing.
“Do it again,” she demanded, voice soft and gentle. Your smile rose all the way up your cheeks as you placed your hand back on her’s, interlocking your hand with her’s.
For the first time since you first met her, you saw genuine comfort on her face, in her body language. Yelena felt safe with you, knowing that everything would be okay.

hey!! I’ve been doing alright recently in response to the calls for talking, im actually going out camping tomorrow! and dont worry about losing like motivation or whatever the right word to use there to write for someone? if there is someone else in particular you’d like to write for you should, not trying to like pressure you to write but if there IS someone but you don’t want to because this is a colson blog, you still should because you’re extremely talented!! (1/?)
personally im not actually that like attracted to colson in particular (im bi but have a preference towards women I think?? I’m absolutely clueless) but i love reading for mgk because i don’t know a single mgk writer who isn’t extremely talented and just always makes me feel so warm and fuzzy and just happy while I’m reading their works. I’m not sure if I plan to make a mgk blog or not eventually, I actually already have an account but that’s specifically for writing for the marvel women (2/?)
and that already takes up a lot of my time because I’m super low on energy. I could theoretically interact with mgk writers on there but I just feel very shy doing that on a blog that has nothing to do with mgk? I just mainly want to have a community to talk about music with because I absolutely love music with all my heart and soul. that was a bit rambly but it was nice to talk, hope you’re doing okay!! (3/3) 🍋
omg good luck with the camping, ive only camped in the desert so i have no clue how camping in the woods works and i wish you all the best and i hope you have fun!! thankyou hun ur too nice!! but tbh ive never felt comfortable mixing content on blogs, this is like my third fanfic blog on tumblr, but i do mix fandoms on ao3 so if i were to ever write for someone else it would probably more likely be over there than here. im currenly kinda out of motivation to write in general, but im not mad at it cuz like lifes been crazy and i'd rather not have motivation or time than have motivation but no time, uknow?
and yeah i totally get u on that front, i feel weird interacting with fic writers in other fandoms with a different fandom specific account lol im not sure why. tho i wont speak for all mgk writers, i definitely dont care where the interactions come from! i would also love to read your marvel women stuff (im a sucker for wanda or yelena fics) (also hi yeah very much clueless bi over here too and also possibly ace??? sexuality is weird). you can totally also start a music blog!! just talk about ur favorite artists instead of just one and ur favorite releases and stuff! ive got lots of opinions on music commentary tbh but thats for another day
