“It’s been an hour since we passed the airplane wreckage.” Jasper started, his fingers ghosting over the map Lincoln had made. “Seeing as we’re using a map without any distances, it could be days before we reached Luna’s village.” Peering over Jasper’s shoulder, you sighed when you found in fact that there was no distance between any checkpoints, so you had no idea how far away anything was.
“At least we know we’re going in the right direction,” Bellamy reminded, keeping his eyes on the road.
“We’re running out of daylight,” Jasper offered. “We should stop in the sun, recharge the battery.” While what Jasper said made complete sense, you couldn’t help but peer out through the back window, seeing only rain and fog. Turning to him, you raised an eyebrow; “what sun?”
“We keep going until the battery runs out.” Clarke finished for you.
“We keep going until we get to Luna,” Octavia corrected, rolling her eyes. Letting your eyes fall back on the journal, you zoned in on a girl with what appeared to be curly hair, and a pretty face. Jasper looked at you before turning the journal around to Octavia. “This her?”
“Yes.”
“What do you think she’s gonna say when we show up asking to put an A.I. in her head?” Looking down at your hands, you chose to remain silent. Jasper wasn’t wrong, it was an odd thing to ask of someone, especially someone you were just meeting.
“Lincoln said she helps those that are in trouble,” Octavia spoke up. “She’ll help us too.”
You fell slightly on Jasper as the rover suddenly screeched, pulling to an abrupt stop. You felt Jasper grab ahold of you, helping you keep steady as you offered a polite smile his way, mouthing thank you. He nodded before turning to Octavia; “think she’ll help us find a better map?” He teased, though you knew it was rhetorical as this wasn’t a good stop at all.
“Backtrack.” Bellamy groaned. “We’ll find somewhere where the trees aren’t so bad.” Your attention was pulled away from Bellamy as Octavia opened the back of the rover, jumping out before anyone could say something. Shaking your head, you followed her, jumping on the dampen ground. Pulling your jacket tighter around yourself, you let your eyes wander around the forest before shutting the door behind Jasper.
“Anyone hear the part when I said it could be days?”
Laughing lightly at Jasper’s comment, you continued to jog, following Octavia’s direction. You stopped though, behind Clarke when Octavia held her hand out; “stop!”
Turning back to Clarke, she froze; “hear that?”
Peering, you faintly heard the sound of what sounded like rushing water. Your wide eyes fell on Octavia and Clarke as they shared a look, taking the moment to look back at you. “Water,” you stated, running forward with them up the hill. You barely paid attention to Bellamy and Jasper who you’d left behind to run up to where you thought the water was.
“Eyes sharp!” You heard Bellamy yelled, “they could hostile.”
Octavia stopped, turning around to her brother with a annoyed face. “They’re not hostile. Put the guns down.”
Brushing a wet strand of hair from your face, you gazed back at Bellamy watching him slowly lower his gun. Nodding at him, you turned back around to follow the rest.
It didn’t take long to follow the water and eventually you all were following a stream of water. You ignored how tired you felt, knowing that there was much more to come and continued running. It didn’t take long for you all to find the village, well where the village was suppose to be. Coming to a stop next to Jasper, you stared at the ocean before you with confusion.
“Where’s the village?” Jasper asked.
Octavia’s eyes fell before you all to a small section designed with what looked like rocks, before her eyes fell on the map Lincoln created. Staring at her in wonder, you watched as her face fell; “oh no. No. It can’t be.” Before you could ask what, she started moving again, heading straight to where the cairn were. You followed nonetheless.
You reached the section soon enough,  stopping in the middle of the circle of cairn’s. Looking around, you searched for any clue or evidence that proved that there had once been a village here. But you found nothing other than the cairn’s.
“This isn’t a village. It’s just a bunch of rocks.”
“She’s gone,” Clarke whispered, shaking her head. You sighed, falling back on your feet. This was suppose to be your solution, if Luna wasn’t here, you weren’t sure what to do.
“What do we do now?” Jasper asked, and you could see the frustration in his eyes.
Clarke turned around to you three, trying to think of what to say. Your eyes fell behind Clarke though, on Octavia who’d walked to the edge of the rocks. She stumbled, falling to her knees. You flinched when she let out a scream, biting your lip.
-
“It’ll be dark soon. We need to talk about what we’re going to do.”
Standing up from setting down the wood you’d collected, you dusted off your hands, turning to Clarke as she finished speaking. You silently nodded with her, agreeing with her statement.
“We wait until first light,” Octavia spoke up. “And then we split up, search the shores in both directions.” Quickly dropping the two sticks she’d been rubbing together, Octavia leaned down, blowing on the friction she created. Picking up the pile of hay, she kept blowing on it, rushing over to the tipi of wood. Continuing to blow on it after setting it down, a smile grew on your face as you saw flames emit.
Bellamy nodded, “I agree. Lincoln wouldn’t have put this spot on the map unless it was important.” He leaned down, reaching for Lincoln’s journal before Octavia’s hand snatched it away.
“Don’t touch that!”
Taking a deep breath, you stepped away from Octavia, walking over to one of the cairns, but still listening. Out of the corner of your eye, you watched Bellamy crouch down next to Octavia. “C’mon, O, how long?”
“I don’t know,” she mumbled, breaking a stick and throwing it into the fire. “I can’t even look at you... Because every time I do, I see Pike putting that gun to Lincoln’s head. I hear the gun shot. I see him fall.” Your thumb fell to your mouth, chewing on it nervously as Octavia’s words sunk in.
“I didn’t kill Lincoln.”
“No,” Octavia spat, standing up. “But he is dead because of you.”
“I came to you,” Bellamy followed Octavia’s actions, standing so he met her eye. “You didn’t take my help. If you had just trusted me--” Bellamy’s words fell short, watching as Octavia completely ignored everything he was saying. Finally turning around, you watched him storm by you, taking off. You debated going after him, unsure of what to do.
Suddenly, you saw green glow, and turning around you saw the orange fire turn green.
“What did you just do?” Octavia asked Jasper, who stared down at the branch he’d been holding in confusion.
“Nothing, I just threw this into the fire.”
Octavia’s eyes widened and she leaned down to grab Lincoln’s book. “What is it?” Clarke asked, as Octavia searched for a page. Finding the page, she pulled down the same type of tree Jasper was holding, a smaller portion, from the journal. She threw it into the fire and staring at it, you watched it emit green flames once again.
“Signal fire! He was trying to tell us. This is how we contact Luna.”
You smiled, watching Jasper walk by you; “i’ll get more.” Smiling encouragingly at Octavia, your eyes fell behind you on the distant figure of Bellamy.
-
Walking up to Bellamy, you watch the waves slowly roll in. Neither you nor Bellamy said anything as you fell beside him, a silence washed over the two of you. Pulling your jacket tighter around your body, you stared at a sight you’d never quite seen before. Water truly was an amazing thing, to drink and look at, and it came to you that on the Ark you’d missed out on a lot of things.
You heard Bellamy sigh heavily, and when you turned to look at him, his gaze was back where the rest were. Your eyes softened, already knowing what he was feeling.
“Y/N,” he mumbled, his voice wavering slightly. “I lost her.”
Giving him a tight smile, you nodded. It was the truth, and you weren’t here to lie to him. But you were also here to try to help him, the best you could and how you remembered. “You lost me,” you shrugged, watching as Bellamy’s eyes widened. “And you might’ve just gained me back... Give her time, Bellamy.”
“All the things i’ve done-”
“You didn’t kill Lincoln,” you interrupted. “You did a lot of things, but you didn’t want Lincoln to die.”
“His blood is on my hands,” he pressed. You tried to ignore the way his broken voice hurt you, making you feel bad for him. You were so confused, confused about everything. Just two days ago you’d hated him, been so hurt by him, but now that was slowly fading. Though the reminder of all he’d done still remains in the back of your head.
“Some of it, maybe.” You nodded, taking a step towards him. “But we all have blood on our hands.” He knew what you meant, it wasn’t hard to understand who you were talking about.
You watched a tear fall from his eye, and took a shaky breath. There was so much feeling between you both, so much tension, good and bad, and you weren’t sure how to cope with it. Nor were you sure this was the time. There was so much going on...
Pausing, you dared to take one more step towards him, letting your own eyes tear up. “I was so angry at you,” you whimpered, sniffling. Bellamy’s eyes flooded with guilt and you tried to keep yourself somewhat composed. “Everything you’d done, everything you said.” You knew that this was probably only making him feel worse, but you needed him to understand how you felt. Needed him to hear it while you were calm, where you could say what you needed to say and how.
“I-I don’t want to feel that way anymore.”
Bellamy took a deep breath, wiping at his tears. “I need you, Y/N. I need you by my side.” His arms opened and wrapped themselves around you. A small voice in the back of your head told you to not do this, to not put yourself in this situation, reminded you of everything he’d done, but you ignored it. Bringing your own arms around him, you squeezed him with much needed force.
You felt him nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck, making you smile lightly. His hands fell into your hair, grabbing ahold of it and you let him, hugging him back.
Though, after a few moments of comfortable silence, you felt him pull away. Confused, you turned to him only to find yourself surrounded by what looked like enemies. Bellamy stepped forward but one appeared behind him, knocking him to the ground. Before you could say anything or do anything, a hand pressed against your lips, pushing you down.
You mumbled something, trying to break free of their grasp but nothing worked.
-
You grunted as you were shoved to your knees, your mouth once again gagged. Looking up you found Clarke, Octavia and Jasper staring back at you as they held their hands up in surrender. Fumbling with the restraints on your wrists, you couldn’t help but begrudgingly think that this was becoming some sort of habit now.
A conversation passed between Octavia and one of the men surrounding you all that you couldn’t understand. It also came to mind that you should really learn how to speak grounder tongue.
“Skaikru,” the man spat. “Bringers of death. Why should we give you safe passage?”
Octavia hesitated, “Lincoln.” The men around you looked at each other warily. “He sent us.” As Octavia finished explaining, the men and women around you said something you couldn’t understand before you felt the restraints around your wrists being untied and the gag around your mouth leaving your lips.
Standing up along with Bellamy, you panted slightly. “What’s going on?”
“I don’t know,” Octavia whispered back.
The man that had been speaking with Octavia stepped over to her, pulling out something, a vile filled with green liquid and handed it over to her. Pausing for moment, she hesitantly reached out and grabbed before the man made his way over to you. “What is that?” You asked, reluctantly reaching out to grab it.
“Save passage,” he answered, handing the same thing over to Bellamy and so on.
“What does it do?” Jasper asked, shaking his head when the man didn’t answer.
“Octavia wait!” Snapping your attention over to Octavia, you watched her down the entire contents of the strange liquid. Your eyes widened as she finished it, sighing heavily; “I trust Lincoln.” Was all she said in response.
“If only she drinks, only she goes.”
“See you on the other side,” Jasper drank it as well. And not long after Octavia had, she passed out, falling to the ground. Bellamy went to grab her, but was blocked by the same man who’d given you the liquid. “Oh, crap,” Jasper groaned, falling to the ground. Staring at Clarke and Bellamy, you hesitated, unsure of what to do.
Shaking your head, you opened up the container bringing it to your lips. There was nothing else to do, and if this could bring you to Luna, then you were willing to take the chance. “Y/N,” you heard Bellamy and Clarke call. Swallowing it, you turned to Bellamy with a daze smile, shrugging. “Lincoln wouldn’t fool us.”
You felt your eyes grow heavy and suddenly you were stumbling. The last thing you felt was your head smack against the ground.
“Last chance-”
-
Blinking, you groaned. Looking up before you, you found yourself in some kind of storage container, and holes poked into it at random. Holding your head, you sat up, finding Jasper beside you.
“Where the hell are we?” Looking at Bellamy, you blinked, trying to clear your vision. Looking around yourself, you had no idea where you were and the last thing you remember was drinking the strange liquid and then collapsing to the ground.
“My swords gone,” Octavia gasped.
Crawling onto your knees, you slowly got up to your feet, staring around you in wonder. “Guns, too.” You jumped as Octavia started banging on the side of the container. Leaning on your tipi-toes, you tried to peek through one of the wholes, finding nothing but a blinding sunlight.
Suddenly the doors opened, and turning you found the blinding sunlight blocking your view. You took a hesitant step forward, only for someone to grab ahold of your shoulder. Turning you found Bellamy staring back at you with worry, and when you looked back at the rest, a figure stepped through the sunlight.
“Luna.”
-
“Everywhere I looked, there were fins. And teeth. And blood. I knew if they saw me, i’d be next, so I just floated there, waiting and praying they’d move on. But they didn’t.”
“She’s here.” Bellamy suddenly announced, drowning the voice of the girl who’d been speaking out of your mind. Looking over at the door that had been opened, you saw Luna. The same Luna who’d just denied your request to become the new Commander and the new Commander, you currently, desperately needed. “Maybe she changed her mind.”
Standing up along with Bellamy and Clarke, you walked over to Luna. Standing between the two, you turned to the apparent ‘new Commander’ with an unimpressed look. It’s not that you didn’t respect her decision, from what you knew of it, or that you didn’t like her motive. It was just right now, you all could use a win instead of a loss.
“The boats return after nightfall,” she explained, looking over at Clarke. “Then you leave, forever.”
“Luna,” Clarke rushed. “Let us explain.”
“I said no.”
You took a step back as Luna took a step forward, crossing your arms and Bellamy stepped in front of you. His hand reached out to grab Luna’s arm, but the man behind her stopped him, placing a hand against his chest. You sighed in frustration, this was going no where. Backing off slightly, Luna turned to Bellamy. “There is something out there that is going to destroy us all.”
“Whatever it is, it can’t reach us.”
“Luna,” you stepped in front of her one final time. Ignoring the glare the man behind her shot you, and looked over at Luna with a calmer, softer look. “We need your help to save everyone else.” Your small dose of hope dropped when she only shook her head, stepping past you.
“I’m not worried about everyone else.”
-
You smiled at the sight of Jasper actually happy, a smile you hadn’t seen since well... before Maya. Laughing lightly, you turned your gaze over to Bellamy who you sat beside, only seeing him staring at the same thing. Smiling bashfully, you looked down at your lap. “Jaspers actually smiling.”
Your gaze fell on Clarke, only to see a non-pleased look on her face as she looked back over to where Luna was. You couldn’t blame her, you were just as frustrated with her refusal as anyone. But with her refusal, this also meant you needed to figure out some other solution, rather than fuss over the failure of the last one. “Clarke,” you called. “Let it go.”
She turned back to you and Bellamy, shaking her head. “We can’t just leave.”
“It’s not like we have much of a choice,” Octavia reminded, throwing pieces of something into the fire.
“Maybe we do.” Clarke dismissed.
“What are you talking about?”
To say you didn’t like the look on Clarke’s face was understatement, you knew how desperate she was to making Luna the Commander. You just didn’t know at what cost. And after not seeing her for more than three months, you didn’t know what she was willing to do in order to achieve her goal.
“I’m talking about putting this in her head without asking,” Clarke answered, gesturing to the chip. Your eyes widened upon her idea, immediately not liking it.
“No way, Clarke.” Octavia whispered, and you agreed with her. “This isn’t like Emerson, he was trying to kill us.”
“You think I don’t know that?”
“I really don’t think this is a good idea.” You warned.
“Clarke,” Bellamy called. “We don’t have to do this. We can fight and go back to Arkadia. We arm up.”
“Fight who?” She reminded, “an army of our own people?” You faltered, realizing that what she said was true. Gazing back at Luna, you still didn’t think it was right. Everything you’ve been told about her may have been a lie from your point of view, but she was peaceful here. You don’t know what she went through and it was wrong of you to ruin that. “I don’t like this anymore than you do. But if Raven’s right, and the code in this thing can stop ALIE--”
Clarke paused when a few men began yelling, catching Luna’s attention. Once she was far away, Clarke looked back at you three; “give me a better idea.”
“Don’t do it,” you shook your head. Clarke only gave you a sympathetic look and you turned to Bellamy, willing him not to say what you already knew he was going to. It was a good plan, with some defaults, but it could work. But at what cost was the question.
Your heart fell when you saw Bellamy nod his head; “we stay here. It’s the only way they’ll leave you alone with her.”
“Even ALIE gives people a choice,” Octavia whispered at Clarke before she got up.
“We gave Luna a choice, she said no.”
-
“Where’s Jasper?”
“Saying good-bye to his new friend,” Octavia shortly replied.
Looking around you, you continued to march with your people and behind Luna’s as they led you to the ship. Needless to say, Clarke’s plan had failed. You weren’t sure if you were happy or disappointed.
Reaching the ‘ship’ you stopped beside Octavia, watching Luna walk towards the opening door. “Sorry Cap, you gotta take them back.” She explained to the same man who’d brought you here. Chucking a bag inside the ship, she turned back to you four. “Your gear. You get your weapons once you land.”
A hand shoved against your head, pushing you towards the entrance of the ship. Holding your hands up, you walked inside without a fuss, turning to see Clarke still talking to Luna. “The flame?”
Luna brought up to eyesight, “remember Clarke. The path of violence is a choice.”
“When the choice is fight or die, there is no choice-” As soon as Clarke finished her sentence, she was aggressively shoved forward, falling into the ship. You moved forward towards the entrance, your eye catching the quick shot of Luna being beaten by one of her own men. Before you could do anything the door shut in your face.
“They took the flame!” Clarke yelled.
“They’re locking us in,” Octavia panicked, rushing up beside you.
“Luna’s people were attacking her,” you panted. “This wasn’t Luna.” Turning to Bellamy, your thoughts were confirmed as he stared down at you in worry.
“ALIE’s here.”
-
“This place was safe before we got here.”
Silence followed Octavia’s comment, looking down at your lap you couldn’t help but agree. Though, soon after her comment you heard a clank and your eyes immediately snapped to the door. Standing up, you rushed to the door as light slowly creaked in. Your eyes fell on the girl you remembered Jasper hanging with, Shay. Though she was bleeding profusely with a arrow sticking out of her chest.
“Oh my God,” Clarke whispered, kneeling down next to her.
Stepping off from the ship, you looked around for anyone, only to see it completely empty.
“Machine r-room,” Shay whispered. “B-Level.” Her head slowly fell to the ground and her frantic breaths stopped. Closing your eyes, you shook your head, only to find Clarke shaking her head at you three as she felt for a pulse. She was dead.
“Let’s go.”
-
You paused, entering the machine room. All you saw was Jasper chained up, his head bleeding. A child on the floor surrounded by multiple dead bodies and Luna in the middle, holding the same man she’d been cuddling earlier, except this time he was dead. Taking a deep breath, you moved over to Bellamy, helping him with the child.
“Hey,” Bellamy called, caressing the little girls cheek. “You okay?” She nodded, her eyes snapping over to you, you offered a small smile.
A loud sob echoed the room, helping the little girl help, you looked over at the destroyed form of Luna, cradling the man’s face. “I’m so sorry,” she whispered repeatedly.
“This was all our fault,” you whispered, shaking your head. Looking over at Bellamy with a panicked look, he only shook his head. You were right. All of this was your fault. Luna and her people were peaceful before you all came along. “Everything is always our fault.”
-
“Anyone of them could be chipped and we’d never know.”
“If they are, they’ll make the move before we chip Luna.” Clarke answered, “stay sharp.” You nodded, watching Luna stepped over to you five.
“You changed her mind?”
“Quiet-.”
Luna stepped before Clarke, holding a cup in her hand. A younger girl walked beside her, handing everyone of you a drink off a tray. You accepted it with a small smile, nodding at her. “The ceremony is about to begin.”
“Luna wait,” Clarke called. “I’m so sorry. But now you see what we’re facing, a enemy that will do anything to win. She won’t stop until she has everyone.”
Luna brought up the chip, staring at it. “People i loved died today. Needlessly. At my hand. I can’t let that happen again.” She turned around, bringing the chip above her head as her people stood up in respect. “As we prepare to give our brothers and sister to the sea, we honour their lives.” She raised her cup and slowly you followed before she spoke something in grounder tongue.
The crowd repeated in a chant; “Kon woda ‘so gyon op, gon woda ‘so kom daun.” You followed their lead, bringing the cup up to your lips and drinking the contents within. Out of the corner of your eye, you watched Luna turned back to Clarke.
“If we’re gonna do this, we have to hurry. ALIE will send reinforcements. And we have to find somewhere private to complete the ascension.”
“You believe that to defeat an enemy, you will stop at nothing. You must stop at nothing. How is that different than blood must have blood?”
Your legs suddenly felt weak, and your vision blurred. Whatever Octavia said you couldn’t understand as your eyes fell shut, and your body began falling. You didn’t feel your head smack against the ground, nor Clarke whisper out one final ‘no.’
