Back in the 1920s when plastic was New Technology, there was a big fad for fountain pens that looked like they were made of jade. Here's one I picked up:

I like this one for the extra gold accents on the cap and barrel, and because it's still fairly green. (Celluloid is prone to discoloring.) It has a soft and pleasant 14k nib and flows very nicely.

Ok here are today's finds '-' A Wahl Eversharp + Pals mechanical pencils for $5 ^_^ Tarnish aside, they're in great condition and require minimal repair. Circa early 1920's

And here's the set I mentioned ^ヮ^ 80s model, I think. I cleaned the cartridges, filled one with my own ink, and it writes perfectly

Eversharp CORONET Gold Filled Fountain Pen Pencil Set

Eversharp Coronet Gold Filled fountain pen pencil set - Jewellery grade - Gold Filled Filigree Overlay Cap Up here is a vintage Eversharp CORONET Fountain pen & pencil set, which was manufactured in USA circa 1936-1941. The pen is in excellent condition, without any damage, only showing minor wears due to age. The Coronet is widely held up as the acme of Art Deco pen design. It is certainly one of the most architectural of pens, strongly reminiscent of such  American Deco icons as the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. When introduced towards the end of 1936, advertisements boldly announced "GOLD IS BACK!"; and also "The new Wahl-Eversharp Coronet Pens and Pencils are manufactured for sale by  jewelers only". The design and marketing attempted to push the model more into the realm of the jewelry market. The pen set here is a good example of the model. It is in gold filled; without any personalization, ding, dent, damage; only some minor wears due to age. The pen comes with Eversharp's Safety Ink Shut-Off. Today I felt like mixing things up and showing you a vintage pencil. This beautiful thing is roughly 100 years old.

Mechanical pencils have been around forever. They're not as reliable or convenient as modern ones, but man do they look cool. This one here is gold-plated brass with a lovely chevron pattern etched into it.

It takes a 1.1mm lead, which is pretty thick - most folks use 0.7 or 0.5mm. The lead in this one is original. I was very surprised to find it not only loaded, but with spare leads in the chamber.

(FYI vintage leads are graphite, same as in modern pencils. Pencil lead has never been actual lead. It's just that back in the day people thought graphite was a type of lead.)

To use, first turn the knob at the end counter-clockwise as far as it will go, then insert the lead into the point. It will slide completely into the pencil. Then turn the knob clockwise to advance the lead.

I have a few vintage pencils, usually because they were a matched set with a pen. This one I bought on its own. It lives in my purse, and gets used to mark my choir music.

oh man you Lena fountain pen breakdown was smthn I never knew I needed til now, I do have one question tho and it's this: do you think Lena would've gotten another pen sometime after she met Kara in the same blue as her eyes or the super suit? like not necessarily as a conscious decision

Yes, absolutely and 100% and I think Lena's collection is a little bereft of blue until she meets Kara/Supergirl and she just. Ya know, feels this sudden need to get a new pen, and it absolutely has to be blue. For variety's sake, nothing more, ya know.

The very FIRST pen that popped in my head for this was the Aurora Oceano Atlantico:

And while it is an incredibly beautiful blue pen, for whatever reason it just didn't feel right... So naturally, Lena needs more options! See below!

It turns out that I don't like the blue and silver combo for a pen Lena will (albeit unknowingly) associate with Kara/Supergirl. I feel like the Aurora above is more of an Andrea pen for whatever reason -- my brain wants Lena to favour the flat top pens, so LET'S FIND SOME!

Option #2: The Pilot Ishime Urushi in Navy!

I like this a little better -- it's more understated, sure, but the texture of the pen body (plus the actual shade) are somewhat reminiscent of Supergirl's suit. Also, it helped me figure out why I didn't like the silver in the other pen!

WE NEED GOLD, for Kara's delightful blonde curls, for Supergirl's magnificent golden mane that Lena is totally not obsessed with and neither am I.

I present to you.... Option #3, and my personal favourite: The Aurora Internazionale Limited Edition in Blue!

This pen is absolutely drool-worthy, and it looks even better in person. Plus, I was lucky enough to try one in hand and askdjalas don't talk to me I must reminisce on that nib because writing with it was an intimate experience.

There are a ton of other blue pens around, and honestly? Lena would 100% buy several because the blue is never just right for some unfathomable reason... and then Kara will pop by L-Corp for lunch and just beam at her with those baby blues, and as soon as she leaves Lena's trawling the internet for the perfect one. Because reasons.

The company continued its activity until the crisis of the '50s. Activities stopped in 1957, when the division which produced the pens was bought by Parker. Despite Wahl Eversharp has not distinguished itself in the fountain pens history for turning point technical innovations it has always produced very high quality pens of the best level. The characteristic for which the Eversharp has shone in fact was the design, producing, at the apex of his success, some of the most beautiful pens ever made and distinguished by the wonderful achievements in Art Deco style.
