people often rip into Rachel and Kim from WAC for thinking they could make do with a single high school degree between the two of them or expecting them to share one persona through college and I used to do the same...

but I think it’s important to understand that college was not their end goal. getting a high school diploma was not even their end goal. not being put in a foster home was their main goal. having someplace to live and food to eat until they were 18 was their main goal. their situation was so bad that they could not afford to care about a long term plan. they went to Waverly to get food and shelter, not necessarily a diploma. the twins are not dumb for this plan. they avoided poverty and the foster system by testing into a good school and keeping themselves afloat there. they just happened to be so good that they were put in the running for valedictorian which put college on the table.

if they’d become the valedictorian and gotten the scholarship, that would have been another deal altogether (and I assume they’d have had to figure out whether they wanted to just go for continued survival or if they wanted to pursue prestigious careers and how that would work), but their plan to go to Waverly was actually brilliant and successful given the small scope of their goal, full stop

In June 2022, the United States Supreme Court overturned the ruling of the landmark 1973 case Roe v. Wade, which had previously provided federal protections of the right to abortion.

Where does the law currently stand on abortion in the state of Washington?

Abortion is currently legal and protected in the state of Washington.

When did Washington’s current abortion legislation go into effect?

The state of Washington repealed its Pre-Roe statutes in 1992, after Washington voters approved a ballot initiative protecting the fundamental right to reproductive medical autonomy. As a result of this, Abortion access is now expressly protected under Washington law, and in the years since, the state has gone on to put several expanded protections for abortion access in place.

Are there any legal restrictions to abortion access in the state of Washington?

Currently, there are no restrictions to abortion access up until the point of viability, or the point at which a fetus is likely to survive outside of the uterus, typically occurring at 24 weeks. 

Past this point, an abortion is only allowed if a pregnant individual’s life or health are in danger, as determined by a physician. 

What expanded protections are in place regarding abortion in the state of Washington?

“Safe-Harbor” Interstate Shield Laws: In 2023, Washington enacted Interstate Shield Laws protecting those who provide, receive, or help others access abortion services from the reach of out-of-state investigations, information disclosure, legal prosecution, or licensure consequences. These protections include gender-affirming care as well. 

Medical Funding: The state of Washington provides public funding for abortion and requires private insurances covering maternity services to cover abortion as well. 

Clinic Access: Washington protects clinic access and safety by prohibiting the obstruction of healthcare facilities. 

Out-of-State Investigations: In June of 2022, the governor of Washington issued a directive that State Patrol must refrain from cooperating with out-of-state legal action/investigation into reproductive healthcare that is legal in the state of Washington, and must report such requests for cooperation to the governor. 

Data Privacy: The Washington My Health Data Act  regulates the collection, use, and sharing of health data, and prohibits the sale of health data without consumer consent.

I am pregnant in the state of Washington and wish to terminate my pregnancy. What now?

If you believe your pregnancy meets the requirements for a legal abortion in your state, schedule an appointment with a trusted physician as soon as possible. If not, you will need to arrange an appointment at a clinic providing abortion services out of state. Make sure the state you choose allows abortions at the gestational age your pregnancy will reach by the appointment date.

If you need financial assistance to do this, there are existing funds to help cover both the procedure and travel costs. 

Abortion funds can assist with the medical cost of the abortion itself. Grand Canyon: 2023-24 Western Athletic Men's Basketball Champions

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tyon Grant-Foster scored 22 points, Ray Harrison added 15 of his 19 in the second half and top-seeded Grand Canyon beat UT Arlington 89-74 Saturday night to win the Western Athletic Conference Tournament for the second consecutive season and clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Lopes have appeared five of the last six WAC Tournament title games, winning three of the last four.

Lok Wur scored 16 points and Jovan Blacksher Jr. 14 for Grand Canyon (29-4).

Phillip Russell led UT Arlington (20-14) with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Shemar Wilson added 13 points and Akili Vining 10.

Harrison converted a three-point play and followed with two free throws to open the second half as Grand Canyon scored 14 of the first 21 points to open its biggest lead at 50-39 with 15 minutes to play. Brandyn Talbot answered with two free throws before Phillip Russell hit a 3 to trim the deficit to six points a minute later and made another from beyond the arc to make it 68-64 with 4 minutes remaining.

McGlothan answered with a monstrous two-hand dunk before Talbot hit another 3 to cut UTA's deficit to three points but Harrison hit two free throws and the Mavericks committed turnovers on their next two possessions and, each time, Grant-Foster hit two free throws before Harrison made a layup to cap an 8-0 run and make it 78-67 with 1:43 to go.

Moore threw down a fast-break dunk with 2.9 seconds left that stretched Grand Canyon's lead to 86-74 — the Lopes' biggest of the game. Russell, who apparently took umbrage with the play, seemed to intentionally bump Moore, who was then hit with the ball following a baseball pass by Vining. Moore was assessed a Flagrant-2 foul, Vining a technical foul and both players were ejected.

Derrick Michael Xzavierro, who didn't play for Grand Canyon, was also ejected for leaving the bench area.

UT Arlington shot 49% (25 of 51) from the field and limited the Lopes to just 40% (23 of 58) shooting but the Mavericks were outscored 37-14 from the free-throw line, where GCU attempted a Division-I program record 50 shots.

Grand Canyon scored 32 points off 26 Mavericks turnovers and committed 14, which UTA converted into just 11 points.

No. 3 seed UT Arlington made its only NCAA Tournament appearance when the Mavericks won the 2008 Southland Conference Tournament. UTA joined the WAC prior to the 2022-23 season.

Sin lesiones, con todo el poder en su brazo izquierdo y el enfoque bien colocado en el objetivo llamado Grandes Ligas, el pitcher juarense Samuel ‘Sammy’ Natera iniciará la semana próxima el camino cuesta arriba hacia el ‘Big Show’, en Clase A Alta, con la sucursal de los Angelinos de Los Ángeles, en Pasco, Washington, en la Liga del Noroeste.

Cumplido el primer ‘spring training’ (entrenamiento de primavera) de su carrera con la franela de los ‘Angelitos’, en Phoenix, Arizona, Natera Barragán hará tronar con su bola de humo las mascotas de los catchers de los Tri-City Dust Devils, escuadra que dirige el manager Jack Howell.
