Sniper Bell is Cowbell and my headcanons on how he fights!

Now, Special and Cowbell are Nulls. No elemental abilities, they don't have that kind of protection. However, while Sister loves her sons so very much, it doesn't mean she didn't have plans for them. Knowledge on what to do in certain situations. Trained to be efficient and precise, discreet and with completed tasks.

Phil is hand-to-hand as he's able to move around a lot easier than Bell is, and his expertise on anatomy makes him very fucking dangerous. Little FREAK with knives, brass knuckles, knows how to make anything into a weapon at this point, and is a ground mover.

Bell, however, is firearms. Handguns, long guns, you name it. With his hearing gone, her vision is a bit more sharper than others. Majority of it is completely his reaction time and able to see changes in the environment. He's hidden almost constantly with her snipers, his main firearm type, always in rafters or roofs. When she's not hidden and has to be on the ground, pretty little gun garters/garter holsters. Always has duo 9mm S&Ws in them but sometimes you'll see her Rugger EC9s!!

His favorites would be the m107, svd, (her beloved and #1) 308 scope rifle, and the classic 9 mm SD9 s&w duo!

She's very smart with firearms and can field strip and off-the-books anything you put in front of him. If it's a panic situation, he's even faster with it but may need just a bit more time to OTB.

Okok now more ramble talk

Bell is very fucking fast, and his headspace is nothing but silence. He keeps his hearing aids out while working, and she won't respond to others for a while unless it's during work for alerts. You'll hear him trill/purr when she spots a target or is tracking something.

To reduce gun residue on himself, he wears a mask, long sleeves, and prefers fingerless gloves so he can feel the trigger all the way. He has a headband with a bow Iris made him to keep her hair out of her face while she's working.

His highest count during a single shift is 6.

Bell will not talk about "work" and will shutdown if it's brought up and pried at. Special will also shut down conversations, and is more likely to get agitated than a flight response. Their work headspace is their alter ego! Special and Bell are always loving and caring, but when they're working? That's gone completely.

Once their job ends, Bell has to seclude herself for a bit. He doesn't count the kills as actually his, he blames it on his alter ego that he's named so it's easier for him to process and cope.

It's not healthy, Bell is extremely aware of that, but it helps her sleep better at night. He'd rather be Mary and pull a trigger than risk one of his family members or someone he loves be put in the ground.

So, Special is "(Main) Chief Medicine Officer, Chief Accounting Officer, Ground Mover"

Bell is "(Main) Range Mover, Weapons Master, Engineering Manager"

Bell, Special, Doves, and the clergy's secret service are the only ones with access to the weaponry. Bell is responsible for maintaining it and doing stock with routine checks. Twice a month he'll have 3 days dedicated to testing each gun to see if it's functional or needs to be fixed/retired. This is different than work for him, so she'll be more likely found in one of her mate's arms trying to regain back as many spoons as possible to calm down.

Bell can fight physically, just like Phil can use firearms, but it's definitely not their preferred methods. They'll use it if they have to!

Okay so I have somewhat articulated some of my thoughts. Sorry in advance if I waffle or don’t make any sense or repeat what Ive said before lol. Also a disclaimer these are my thoughts and interpretations I am not saying anyone has to agree with what I think and I’m not saying what my thoughts and interpretations are fact.

Okay so my thought process regarding the ladder merch starts back in 2020 when we got Walls and we got OTB and to keep things shorter the lyric I’m going to focus most on is “It’s a solo song and it’s only for the brave” I think as a collective the majority of the fandom have accepted the queer connotations of the song, and to me the song is definitely gay I don’t see any other possible meaning behind it, and the lyric I mentioned to me is a reflection of how most queer people especially in the beginning of their journey as a queer person and accepting their feelings, sexuality and gender identity in some cases feel alone and feels like they have to go through the journey alone and you have to be brave to face any backlash, homophobia etc from the people around you, and also to touch on the lyrics “And they’ll say, I told you so, come on when you know you know” I think this part in particular is about speculation about people’s sexuality in particular and when someone comes out and people react by saying I told you, so and so is gay and I think “when you know you know” could also be in regards to young queer people and I’ve often heard people say you’re too young to know you’re gay etc, so I think that lyric could also mean that which links back to the lyric “it’s a solo song and it’s only for the brave”. I could write so much more about Only The Brave but moving on to LT:Live From London which happened December 2020 during lockdown and where Louis performed COACOC for the first time (still cannot believe it’s not on streaming smh), the lyrics I’m going to be focusing on is the lyrics “can’t get through the glass” and the entire second verse “I can hear you, howlin' 'til your lungs hurt so let this be your comfort you're not the only one, no. In a strange way, we're all in this together, been this way forever you’re not the only one”. To me the “can’t get through the glass” is pretty self explanatory and I think it’s in regards to a glass closet for anyone who doesn’t know what a glass closet is, it is when the sexual orientation or gender identity of an individual is known to many but not publicly acknowledged or spoken about. And what I have interpreted the entire second verse to me is finding a queer community who have/are going through the same things that the individual is going through and they are able to find comfort in the fact that they are not alone and there are people understand the feelings and emotions in the journey as a queer person.

Okay now finally getting to the merch we first saw the ladder merch during the 369 merch drop on 28th April 2021 - we got a few different designs during this drop there were quite a few pieces: one was the boy climbing the ladder and spray painting the iconic smiley, there was also the sweatshirt with what looked like an explosion and in the middle was the ladder and the boy surround by portals and shapes tbh I still haven’t made up my mind and put my thoughts together about what that could represent lol, there was a pretty pink hoodie that had a doorway and in the design there were multiple doorways in the door kinda like in cartoons where the character will open the door and there’s more doors but I related it back to copy lol and I also thought it could possibly be representing (idk if this is the right word to use) obstacles and difficulties in the journey that are slowing you down and preventing you to getting to the other side of the door and on the back of the hoodie it was once again the ladder and the boy, the iconic visual of the ladder and breaking the glass was also a part of this drop, and the first time I saw the merch it reminded me of the walls music video and copy because of the lyric “can’t get through the glass” and the boy is breaking through the glass and it reminded me of `Walls because it looks like on the other side of the glass was desert and in the walls mv there is a scene where Louis is just staring at himself in the glass walls. So I think that entire drop was kinda like a break through?

And to link all of this to the Queer x Design book that made my brain go in to overdrive lol it says in the book - “it depicts people climbing the ladder out of the well of loneliness” and my brain instantly went to All This Time in particular the lyrics “our eyes meet and I can tell that you’re the same as me” and also the lyrics “but the friends we make, the love it takes Is worth, is worth, is worth the pain. The friends we make, the love it takes is worth, is worth, is worth it all this time” which I think links back to what I mentioned earlier and finding friends in the queer community who have shared/ similar experiences as you and the journey you went on and all the obstacles you came across, all the hurt and pain you experienced was worth it in the end because you found people who are the same as you and understand and get you.

I haven’t included any links to the merch I’m referencing so I really hope you know what I’m talking about but this is what I’ve managed to articulate at the moment there’s still so much more I want to say but if I’m able to I’ll maybe share more :)

🩷 Thought dump 🩷

Holy shit, I just started reading Only the Brave by Solmussa and I'm so excited!!!! I read You Signed Up For This earlier this summer, like maybe two months ago? And I had no idea that it was by the same author! I've heard OTB's title before, like mentioned in lists of the best/it marauders fics, but I hadn't actually heard much about it? Like I knew it was dark, sad, and dramatic, but I didn't realize that it's set in canon... like not really bc everyone lives and the plot points are different... but like, the death eaters, war, hogwarts, it's all based in canon material!

I've just stopped reading All the Young Dudes (for now, I'll explain). I got through 151 out of 188 chapters before I just couldn't do it anymore :( It was getting too depressing... Life in general has been pretty depressing this summer, and reading is my escape from all of that. I had so much fun with ATYD until they finished at Hogwarts. Well, it had kind of been creeping in through their 6th and 7th years too, to be honest. ATYD is beautifully, and more importantly, realistically written. Literally cannot praise MsKingBean89 enough bc wow. But, the war is just depressing, not exciting. There're no action packed fight scenes, no one having illicit love affairs, it's just... real. Reading ATYD was making me more depressed tbh. The sense of unease, that sinking feeling of dread... it wasn't really an escape for me anymore. I'd really like to go back to it one day, though! I'm super invested in the story and the characters within the context of the narrative, and I know tragedy is coming but it's worth it for the story, right? It will be, but not right now! I'm moving on to something with a bit more life :))

I'm excited for OTB because it's got Hogwarts, the war, etc., but also everyone's getting down w each other and the relationships are written as dramatically as in Crimson Rivers. Or at least I assume that's what it'll be like... As I said, I read YSUFT a couple months ago and loved it. It was infused with crack I stg. It was super light hearted for the most part, but it still had this larger than (real) life soap drama feel? If that makes sense??? So, a story that's super dramatic with life or death consequences and real danger? Oh, this is gonna be so good.

Also, one of the biggest selling points for me, Regulus is the main character!!! He's so me. Even though we're totally nothing alike, but no, no, we're the same person actually. Regulus is my favourite character, not just out of marauders era characters, but for the past four months he's been my favourite ever. I love him. I love him. And I really loved the way that Solmussa wrote him in YSUFT. I think this is part of the reason I'm moving on from ATYD, bc Regulus is for the most part not in it at all :(. And I totally get that! ATYD stays (mostly) really close to the original canon lore outlined in the Harry Potter books, and in that, Regulus is a magical nazi. Like, he sucks fr. It's still great and mildly redeeming that he sacrifices himself to destroy a horcrux, but I'm not going to pretend that he didn't subscribe to the death eater's values for the majority of his life. I don't believe for a second that he actually hated being a Black and a death eater for his entire life. Like yes, tons, heaps of trauma, and he didn't have a way out like Sirius did with James, but I don't think that changes the fact that in canon Regulus wasn't a good person. Not evil, either, but I acknowledge his wrongdoings. Fanon Regulus on the other hand... our souls are one and the same, argue with the wall. So, I'm moving onto a story that's still kinda set in the canon environment, but with Regulus as the mc and lots of dramatics.
