anyway here's what I headcanon their hair to look like (explanations below)

ok so for Vulgora I kind of just did the medieval bob thing that you seem to see on paintings a lot, except Yassified. because "historical but yassified" seems to be the general vibe of The Arcana anyway /affectionate

also please note I was originally going to give them a monastary haircut and decided against it, the reason I was going to go with this originally is because of their card actually, and because of Volta. I'm pretty sure Volta is modeled after a nun because Temperance (her patron Arcana) is one of the Heavenly Virtues (and the corresponding Deadly Sin is Gluttony so that's neat) and anyway with that in mind I wanted them to have vaguely catholic imagery to match since their card (The Tower) is associated with the Tower of Babel (and also their title Pontifex is usually used in reference to priests)

anyway for Valdemar I was kind of like. what if it was just stupidly long because they haven't cut it in thousands of years. really long flowy hair like this also reminds me of horses (which their patron, Death, is associated with, and it also cements their inspiration as a horseman of the apocalypse) I think it also cements them as kind of like, ethereal. like Nadia. mysterious. you can tell just by looking at the length of their hair that they've been here a long ass time you know (and it kind of reminds me of some fae imagery which, the courtiers remind me of the fae, which, fae is such a vague term that actually includes demons but I specifically mean the courtiers remind me of those really mischievous fairies what with their deals and complicated rules about lying and obsession with politeness and also Vlastomil saying you're not supposed to give them your real name. they remind me of those kind of fae and I think it's notable that in Muriels route Volta just kind of becomes a guardian of the forest. anyway I'm getting way off track here)

also I gave them both pointy ears because Vlastomil has pointy ears but loses them as a human, implying perhaps they all might have pointy ears

as for the colors I just used their eyebrow colors lmao

Vesuvia weekly ; The courtiers' Guilty Pleasures !

Pairing : The courtiers x reader Fandom : The Arcana visual novel Warnings : none. Pure fluff.

Volta :

I like to believe she loves dancing, like ballet, and the opera ; she loves the pretty dresses and the music,, and will secretly try and get some costumes custom tailored for herself, which she'll keep preciously in her closet and put on when she's alone, to admire herself in the mirror and imagine being on stage, amidst the crowd of pretty dancing people and musicians.

I'm pretty sure she would love to be able to fight. Being short comes with a lot of disadvantages,, I'm pretty sure she would like placing a few punches or kicks just right in people sometimes. Maybe she's already asked Vulgora to train her in the past, too.

Loves going to Portia's cottage. Loves Pepi. The flowers. The leaves. It's all so pretty ! And Portia's so nice !

She'll get all flustered and stutter if you ever ask about those secret hobbies of hers, but she'd want to share too, and even get a little frustrated by her conflicting emotions.

Vulgora :

I think they like being calmer and softer when no one's around, and to be treated calmly and with kindness (I'm sure they like being hugged, but you will never for the life of them see them admit it).

They like to play chess with the Countess, even if they loose systematically.

I have a feeling they'd love to go hunting too, with or without a falcon/dogs, or someone else's company.

I think behind their very loud and impulsive facade, they're a rather secretive person, not used to open up about things other than the plainly obvious, and so their little hobbies would be hard to discover unless you look into them a little, or generally get interested in them.

Valdemar :

I think they can play the violin, and some forgotten old instruments. They like how they have to make their finders dance over the instruments to make music.

They're a pretty manual person I think, and can craft little things here and there when they're bored ; pretty sure they tried embroidery even. Very steady hands (heh.)

and fashion. No one can convince me otherwise ; they have a sense of fashion and just don't exploit it. They don't dress often, if ever, or openly comment on people's outfits. but they COULD. IF ONLY THEY DID ARGH-

Secretive person as well. But you'd have no way of discovering any of that if they didn't want you to.

Vlastomil :

Always loved the sound a harp makes. He'd kill to learn how to play it, but he's never dared to take that initiative. It's just such a beautiful instrument, so calming, and it looks really nice to have it lean against you...

I think he'd also enjoy taking walks in the forest, and go lay down in some fresh and humid dirt, listening to the little river nearby, the chirp of birds, the leaves in the wind, the rays of sunlight peeking through...

We know how much he loves his worms, but what if he liked other things as well? what about isopods? tiny lil things.

You may surprise him indulging once or twice, but he'll always stammer a half-made-up excuse and shift the topic of the conversation quickly

Valerius :

Cat person. Loves cats. Wants cats just so he can sit in a big chair and have one on his lap and pet it menacingly while he sips his wine. Will not admit it.

LOVES velvet. Would wear velvet every day of his life if he could ; but he feels it's maybe a little too much in certain scenarios, so avoids it. He does have a cape in the back of his closet, which he wears sometimes when the halls of the Palace are desert.

Actually like to let his hair down ; thinks it gives him a mysterious charm (which yeah, if he styled it a little better), and one time you caught him mindlessly twirling his fingers into his strands.

He's not necessarily secretive, it's just he's learned court etiquette a lot, and so has taken the habit of hiding and bottling his personality down. That part at least.

Today I decided on an unusual post. An idea has matured in my head: what if I could imagine what cosmetics in the style of some characters from "The Arcana" would theoretically look like? What would it be like? And what exactly could be in the "collection"?

And, well, I decided to try to do it. I made up palettes for several characters that were the easiest for me to work with personally. It's not much, but it took me all day to think about the composition of each eyeshadow palette.

He’s a pretentious man, so he claims to be above the drama, and says he’s not seeing either

And publicly, he’ll stick to this

However, he will be acquiring Barbie through potentially illegal means to watch it alone at home on opening night

The worms vote for Barbie, so that’s what they will be seeing

He rents out the theatre to bring his “children” with him

The biggest problem is that he does this with the very first showing, so pretty much everyone hates him

Oppenheimer, 100%

However, they’re disappointed with the lack of violence. They expected more.

Will not be seeing Barbie, unless they hear that it somehow has more violence than Oppenheimer

Super excited to see it, and buys an ungodly amount of snacks (they were planning on sneaking snacks in, and even though they were successful, they still went back and bought the theatre snacks as well)

What The Courtiers Would Smell Of ☆

Either nothing with a slight hint of iron or

A strong smell of hand sanitizer. Like to the point it burns your nose.

Vulgora

A mix of sweat and really musky mens aftershave.

Or they would smell of smoke not cigarette smoke but fire smoke (yk)

Vlastomil

As strange as it is to say I think he'd smell like them slimes in a can.

Like the ones that they manufacture in a factory that are always slimy and not rlly fun to play with.

Volta

Volta would 100% smell really sweet.

I have a feeling that she would douse herself in them manufactured marshmallow body sprays.

Either that or that smell when you've been around cooking food and it clings to your clothing.

Valerius

This man would smell like rain and blackcurrant

Or saffron. There is no in-between.

So shocked that he actually has to lie off the wine for a moment. His immediate thought is that he's had way too much to drink, and he needs you to repeat yourself. But no, he hasn't had much to drink, you're still going on about how he is hot in his demon form?

How... Uncultured of you. He needs more wine for this.

No, but he's still really shocked even when he confirms that you get turned on when he's in his demon form? Really? That is when? Oh... It's both a confidence boost and a humbling moment for him.

On one hand, he always thought his demon form was ugly, so it's touching for you to enjoy it so much. But on the other hand, he's like, is that ALL he had to do??

Will probably think about what you told him for a few days until he'll actually use it to his... Advantage

His demon form is the most underdeveloped of all the courtiers, it's only really half, but it is still quite unnatural for a human to have such a claw, such sharp teeth, such... Horns.

It's hot.

He'll be a bit hesitant if you want to have sex with him in his demon form. After all, he has very sharp nails in his demon form, he dosent want to accidentally hurt you.

But if you insist upon it, okay, he supposed once won't hurt. And maybe whenever he's stressed...

It ends up happening more than that.

Vlastomil🐛:

Is a bit concerned when you tell him. He's immediately asking you, "are you unwell? Poisoned? Dying? Is this some sort of call for help?" But when you assure him, no, you're not, you just really like his demon form, you receive a blank stare.

The praetor needs some time to process this. Maybe some drugs, too... No, no, he'll forego the drugs. But he borrows some wine from Valerius

He's immediately asking so many questions, like, are you sure? You know he gets all slimey... Just to confirm, you're not on drugs? Is this some sort of code for help?

He's so surprised when he finally processes the fact that you get turned on by his demon form. He is literally a slimey eight feet tall monster!!

Oh, but if you so insist upon it, yes, he might show you his demon form when you ask.

Probably will refrain from fucking you in it, though, since he's literally eight feet tall and that makes it admittedly difficult unless you two prepare.

Will definitely tease you about it, though.

Valdemar💉:

You don't even need to tell them, they know. They're practically already in their demon form all the time, and they see you blush when they get too close for comfort. They enjoy it immensely.

They love to tease you (if you're already their partner, especially) and will make sure to show off their sharp nails in any way they possibly can.

They also show off their height by wearing their heeled boots. They love to tower over people. And most of all, you.

You needn't even attempt to hide or show your attraction towards them, for they will always know. They just do. They see the way your eyes linger on them. They lick their teeth just to torment you longer.

Since you're so desperately whorish for them, they suppose they'll have to give you what you want.

After all, they are part of the court, and the court is meant to help people. Who are they to judge if part of their helping happens to be fucking you until morning?

And also a bit concerned for you. You really like her like that when she's in a demon form? When her ribs snap and grow out of her skin and her very flesh is on the brink of melting?

Wow. She is.. So very flattered that you do. Nevermind the fact that you most definitely shouldn't be, she's quite happy you do.

Um... sex might be out of the option, though.

I mean, her bones are literally poking out of her body and unlike Vulgora and Valdemar, she can't quite control it...

But there's no doubt that shes definitely learning how just for some monster sex.

Oh, so you like it when they grow two feet taller and their flesh is more beetle than human? Oh, so that gives them much too many ideas, much too many depraved ideas...

Their demon form resembles a tall beatle like demon, but they have some control over it, like, they can control their height and stuff.

Because of this they probably will have sex with you in the form of you want, since it's easier to control their form.

They're, surprisingly, careful with you if/when you want to have sex in their demon form. Like, their nails are sharp and they're very strong but they make sure not to hurt you.

Unless you want them to.

Pairing : The courtiers x reader

Warnings : none. Pure fluff.

You were simply walking down the corridors of the third floor of the palace, simply curious about what was there, since you had never visited before. However, you stumble upon their doors slightly ajar...

Valdemar :

You either see them lying on their back with their hands on their chest or on their side. The cover hides basically all of them except for their head. They lay down almost perfectly flat. They do not make a single noise ; if you didn't see their chest softly rising and falling you'd think they were dead.

They look shockingly peaceful and comfortable. You envy them.

They're actually a heavy sleeper (they have to sleep for three days like come on) but they would know if you were to even take a single step in their room and you'd die on spot.

But when they're awake they are like... Awake.

Vulgora :

You hear them before you even see them. They snore. Loudly.

They're sprawled out onto their bed like a star, either on their back or stomach. The covers are covering barely half of their body.

Very light sleeper ; the sound of your breathing could wake her up

Tries to keep herself as warm as she can.

Vlastomil :

He, unsurprisingly, is snuggled up in his covers like a burrito. Reject humanity, return to worm. He wiggles around in his sleep sometimes, in a circular pattern, clockwise.

And when he's completed the circle, he wakes up.

Pretty average sleeper, goes through the normal phases of sleep and actually has pretty restful nights... If you forget about the moisture.

He sweats a lot, despite loving to be wrapped in his blanket like that.

Valerius :

Probably the most normal of them all. You find him sleeping on his back, one arm behind his head and his other hand resting on his chest, the covers up to his torso.

He keeps his hair in a bun for the night

Does have trouble falling asleep sometimes

Bonus! - Cuddling with the courtiers!

Valdemar :

1. Big spoon (to your great surprise)

2. Onto you weighed blanket style

Shockingly gentle yet firm grip ; they love the warmth and softness of you but will never admit it.

Vulgora :

1. Crushes you. Prepare to try not to suffocate. Sprawled out onto you as if they were sleeping normally.

2. The same but while holding you.

Firm grip, but will loosen it when they hear you can barely breathe. Loves your scent.

Volta :

1. Hold her close to you, envelop her in your arms and keep her safe. Loves your warmth too, and insists you're entirely covered in the blanket as well.

2. Small spoon, and clings to your hands.

Doesn't hold on to you, prefers being held by you to feel safe.

Vlastomil :

1. Coils around you worm style.

2. But likes to be held too.

Will profusely apologize about sweating too much.

Downsides : he takes the covers all to himself.

Valerius :

1. Small spoon. I rest my case.

Will act as if he is simply ok with it and doesn't enjoy it as much as he does.

Hi. I haven't been writing headcanons for a long time, but now I have some ideas in my head that I've been trying to refine for a long time. At the moment, I'm working on some fanfiction for which I need inspiration, and in order for me to have it, I decided to revive my small column with headcanons on The Arcana.

Quaestor Valdemar x Pontifex Vulgora headcanons

I am more than sure that Vulgora occupies the "main" position in this relationship. They initiate many key moments, starting with dates and ending with kisses with other more intimate things. But this is not because Valdemar are passive or they are not interested in this relationship. More about this in the next paragraph.

Valdemar is not the kind of being who is well or even moderately versed in romance and in building a loving relationship with anyone. They are not passive, but they are also not inclined to take the first steps too often, however, if Valdemar still decide to take the initiative, then this exceeds all expectations, at least in relation to those with whom they are close. And this place in their heart in this case is occupied only by Vulgora. For their sake, Valdemar is more than capable of learning to understand the essence of building a romantic relationship, but it still won't look the way people do it. Valdemar have their own language of love, which they learn to show towards Vulgora, learning more and more about it.

However, Vulgora is also loved in its own way. And that's what makes these two look like each other. Both are immortal beings, whose age is either approaching a thousand, or has long crossed this boundary. But to be more precise, in my head Vulgora is younger than Valdemar, but not by much, to call it an impressive age difference.

Valdemar is by no means a passive partner in this relationship, despite having less initiative. With the development of these relationships, their dominant personality side is quite capable of revealing itself in some moments. It's not as fervent and passionate as Vulgora's, but more harsh and cold-blooded, but since Valdemar knows the measure and knows how to try on this quality when it's appropriate, it drives the younger demon crazy.

And the first thing Valdemar does after one of the nights together is hear something like this from Vulgora in the early morning: "DAMN IT, WHY DID YOU HIDE IT BEFORE?! IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!"

Vulgora is definitely the defender in this relationship most of the time, and Valdemar are the ones who are protected. Vulgora are ready to literally gut with their bare hands anyone who dares to look at Valdemar the wrong way or leave a comment. For the latter, by the way, Vulgora will not hesitate to rip out this unfortunate person's tongue.

However, when it comes to really serious things, rather than simple showdowns with people, Valdemar stands up. Their defense techniques are more subtle and sophisticated. And this is applied only in the most extreme cases. They know that Vulgora will fight to the last for the chance to protect both themselves and their partner, so Valdemar will not take away this chance from them if there is no real danger on the horizon, because of which Vulgora can theoretically suffer due to their own inattention or overconfidence. Valdemar will simply turn a creature that dared to cause trouble for Vulgora into a pile of dismembered minced meat and a mug of blood.

Of course, there are a lot of rumors about the relationship between these two at court, because neither Valdemar nor Vulgora see any point in following universal rules and declaring each other partners in front of everyone. This becomes obvious over time and no one in the couple tries to hide it, just as they advertise it. They just most often appear together at common events or somewhere else, sometimes holding hands and showing signs of attention towards each other. However, Vulgora is more prone to publicity than Valdemar and at the first time of a love relationship, they do not hesitate to yell at someone who will allow themselves to stare at Valdemar. It would be something like, "WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING, YOU MISERABLE PEASANT?! TURN YOUR EYES AWAY, IT'S MINE!"

Valdemar, as a rule, react very calmly to the manifestation of Vulgora's possessive nature and accept it without trying to change them. They are more than satisfied with this, because they still have no goal to build a close relationship with someone else.

Among other things, Valdemar is not at all worried about the physical manifestations of affection on the part of Vulgora. These are, of course, love bites, and everywhere, wherever their sharp greedy teeth can reach. Despite the fact that Valdemar's body is always hidden under clothes, Vulgora find a way to mark them so that absolutely everyone can see it. For example, hickeys on the cheeks, sometimes very bright.

In bed, Valdemar often puts power in the hands of Vulgora, allowing them to act in the main role. But it's not that simple. Valdemar can take the role of a hidden leader, allowing Vulgora to think that they are in charge of the process. They just like to see their beloved red beetle having fun in full.

Valdemar, taking a position "from below", can easily turn Vulgora into a trembling puddle of tenderness, just by telling them the right words. And they know how to get to the very heart of Vulgora. It works flawlessly.

That's all for today. But I know for sure that I will soon write the second part of the headcanons with this amazing couple. I just need to formulate the rest of my thoughts on this topic. And I do not exclude that I will even write headcanons related to NSFW in more detail. If that happens, it will be my favorite part.

Vulgora

- At first it's awkward. VERY awkward. They are not used to gentleness, let alone affection

- The moment you embrace them, Vulgora freezes, looking down (or up) at you while they try to process what in the Devil's name you are doing

- You must consider yourself lucky. If it were anyone else they would've pulled a WWE on them and thrown the person in question across the room

- You know how touch averse people react when they receive a hug from someone they care about but they don't have the heart to tell them to stop? That's them rn

- When reality settles in, they pat your back slowly. If you laugh, they will turn beet red and ask you what's so funny

- You tell them they are cute

- "SHUT UP! YOU ARE THE CUTE ONE!" (Agressive flirting: check)

- It's okay, just give them time and space and they will eventually initiate the hugs themselves. Bone crushing hugs

- When they are finally comfortable with being touched at all, they are more than happy to receive your affections. Hugs, kissing, hand holding... You name it! Though, be warned, Vulgora's body temperature is above the average human's and varies depending on their mood

- They live for PDA and will show you off any chance they got

Valdemar

- Good luck trying to step close enough, it's like they can smell your intentions. The moment you reach out for them, they step away and look at you with the creepiest passive-agressive smile

- "Whatever do you think you are doing?"

- You tell them you just wanted a hug. They chuckle

- "No."

- If you somehow manage to make them feel the slightest amount of pity for you, they might allow you to embrace them... Once

- It's like hugging a corpse. They are boney, stiff and overall cold (both in a literal and rethorical sense)

- Don't expect this moment to last more than three seconds

- They don't mind your affectionate nature, even if they do not share or understand it at all, but just like they respect this behaviour of yours, they expect you to mind their boundries

- Never. I repeat, NEVER try to surprise them. They always have something sharp and dangerous between their hands and you might be stabbed

- But you are their friend, after all, so if by any chance they did hurt you, they will help you out. Just don't do that again

Volta

- This poor, poor baby. She NEEDS someone affectionate

- She is very clingy herself. She loves every and any type of physical contact as long as it's gentle and loving

- Holding hands has to be her favorite. Her tiny little grabbers are always on yours in almost every situation

- Did I mention how much she adores being carried? Please, hold her any chance you got. She is light as a feather, you won't have any problems

- Catch Vulgora gagging at how sappy the two of you are and telling you to get a room. You are happy, however, so you ignore their complaints

- She is very possessive. No one has ever been so kind to Volta

- "B-But MC! What if they take you away from Volta? Oh, she would be so sad... So sad..."

- Please, for the love of God, don't try to make her jelous. Not even jokingly. Her sensitive little heart is not able to take it and she will immediately start crying

- Overall you'll have to do lots of reassurance, and what better way to do that than to tell her how much you love her through cuddles?

- Volta just can't live without you now. She has horrible abandonment issues

Vlastomil

- Shyshyshy

- Take it easy with him, he might have a heart attack if you hug him out of the blue

- Catch him turning every different shade of red when you show the slightest sign of affection

- Don't get me wrong, he appreciates your display of emotion! He is just not used to it, much like every other courtier

- He has mixed feelings about PDA: he loves the fact that you don't mind being seen in public with him, but at the same time he feels everyone's eyes on him while you hold hands and that is not good for his social anxiety

- He is surprisingly good at hugging. He isn't too gentle or too harsh. He uses the perfect amount of pressure

- Don't worry, if you are not comfortable with his precious worms, he will make sure they are away for as long as you are there. That is not to say he won't try to show you they are harmless

Valerius

- Much like Vulgora, he is weirded out at first. He is not particularly fond of physical contact if any kind. Contrary to the Pontifex, Valerius is very much used to receiving affection (from his parents, that is)

- He stands perfectly still as you wrap your arms around him. It's... uncomfortable. For the both of you

- "Are you done, magician?"

- When you frown at his reaction, he chuckles. You freeze. He can smile? He can laugh?? He can feel any other emotion other than spite???

- Yes, of course he can. Only toward you, though. With everyone else he is still very dry

- Once he accepts his feelings toward you, he drops the mean attitude and turns into the sweetest man. He is very attentive, loving and (surprisingly) affectionate!

- He is not fond of PDA, though. Sure, he has no problem with a subtle flirting, maybe holding your hand for a while, but you won't catch him being all lovey-dovey in public

- He is a gentle lover and he only ever smiles around you. He has the softest, most sweet smile you have ever seen

- Cuddling is a foreign term to him, but does not mean he doesn't enjoy it!

- Valerius is not an over the top kinda guy, but that's what makes him special. He reserves his tender side for you and you only

what's a random Arcana headcanon you have!

oh dear I have a lot. I guess I'll choose one I've been thinking about a lot lately- I wanna start by saying for me the lines between "theory" and "headcanon" are very blurred because for like 99% of my headcanons I basically just take things that happened and build on them or put logic to them that was never explicitly stated. i like connecting things. the other 1% is "I think it would be funny if this happened". anyway

uhhh this one. okay the theory/headcanon is "Vulgora has made a deal with Morga at some point, and if not Morga, then Eir". this is one of my more flimsy theories but the logic is

>Morga is very familiar with what she describes as "foul magic" and she can smell it on Lucio when he makes a deal with Vlastomil. where did she get that from? why is she so familiar with it/able to recognize it

>Vulgora already knows Morga's full name without her saying it to them in Muriel's route ("Watch your back, Eirsdottir. Next time, I'll stab it.") especially notable since Vlastomil calls Lucio a fool for revealing his full name to him. Demons don't just KNOW they have to be told (though, Lucio and Vulgora have a "frenemy" history so I suppose they could have learned it from him at some point, I just don't see Lucio going "ah yes this is my mother Morga Eirsdottir and she looks like this" you know what I'm saying. it's more likely they know each other)

>IF I remember right Vulgora was extremely excited to fight Morga. so they already knew she was skilled- again HOW, Morga just isn't someone people from Vesuvia know. they have to be involved somehow

>The Scourge is associated with beetles and Vulgora is the demon of war. they share similar motifs in general- to me it almost seems like The Scourge at one point relied on Vulgora for power

>the fact that Morga is so skilled against a demon isn't damning in and of itself- of course she's a skilled fighter but that coupled with her scleras turning black when she uses magic... I mean, no other characters do that unless they have either become The Devil or recently made a deal with him like in Nadia's route. perhaps indicating Morga has made a deal for her skills at some point (especially considering Morga manages to break The Devil's chains with a well placed spear in Lucio's route? that's crazy impressive. like to a supernatural degree)

>also the fact that Morga knows about the magical realms and is entirely unphased by going there

anyway that collection of facts kind of makes me think there's some history there, like maybe either Morga made a deal with Vulgora for her power and upheld her end, thus not being cursed like Lucio was. and that maybe, Vulgora has been dealing with these people for generations- maybe Eir was targeted! who knows! I forget what made me think Eir was involved but there was something that tipped me off. I'll put a pin in it. anyway maybe the long history could explain why Lucio's curse is red beetles despite his first deal being with Vlastomil and not Vulgora. but I do have a whole theory about why they're red beetles specifically anyway that I won't get into right at this moment
