Natanel doesn't have a very good relationship with his beast. It's always there, it's in his mind, he cannot shake it. It's vile, It always hungers, it wants, it clings to the stronger individuals around him and uses them until there's nothing left.

He is weak. He is fragile, he is kind. He is desperate and the beast is every ugly little part of him.

Hear me out. So... y'all know how Moon Knight is often correlated with Batman? And there happens to be a Mesoamerican bat-like spirit(s) named Camazotz?

An AU where Bruce, on his journey to become Batman, stopped a smuggling and came across Camazotz's artifact. Camazotz, who sensed vengeance and rage exuding from this mortal man, revealed themselves to him. They tried to manipulate Bruce into accepting their offer to be their avatar/vessel, even bringing up the death of Thomas and Martha Wayne. It either succeeded or failed, whichever options didn't matter because he ended up being Camazotz's vessel anyway.

He is stronger, faster, and sharper. He aged slower, healed quicker than normal. He even has bat-like powers. Of course, this all came with a cost. Bruce suffered from thirst of blood every night. The beast inside him yearns for bloodshed. The beast always tempts him to cross that line, to behead their enemies and revel in their blood. Bruce knows that's not him, knows he wouldn't do that. If he did, that beast will consume him, drown him in their darkness.

He kept on saving people no matter what because saving them saves HIM. Every act of kindness. Every meaningful words. Every dime spent on bettering the city and it's people. Every time spent with his friends and family. All of them kept the beast away, grounding Bruce to his humanity.

Imagine the angst between him and everyone. The Justice League are wary of him not only because of his contingency plans but also the fact that he's drawing power from spirit(s) symbolizing the night, death, and sacrifice. Imagine how much Bruce is teetering on the edge of losing himself for his kids but they just don't get it.

Imagine Jason visiting another timeline where Bruce killed the Joker and the streets are... quiet, too quiet. Gotham always have red sky at night but this sky screams bad omen. And then he smelled it, saw it. Blood. Too much blood, paving a crimson road which expand more and more as he followed it's trail.

Finally, he stops in his tracks, seeing a mountain of beheaded bodies. From the Rogues Gallery to small-time criminals, standing atop of it is a monster in his mentor-slash-father figure's image... That is the moment when Jason finally understands what Bruce meant by never coming back, what happens if he cross that line.

The beast will consume him.

(I would like to explore this concept but I'm not well-versed in Mesoamerican mythology. Please correct me if I'm wrong!)

okay i’ve finally completed all the world of darkness interactive fiction games. my rankings are as follows:

vampire: the masquerade — night road: the crème de la creme of these books. like genuinely the best. also it was the first one i’ve ever played so i have a soft spot for it. favourite clan to play is either tremere or ravnos.

(3-way tie kinda, rankings do matter a bit) werewolf: the apocalypse — the book of hungry names: loved it. it’s super long but it’s absolutely worth it. never really dipped my toes into the werewolf part of world of darkness but i liked being a galliard hart warden. might have to look into it more.

(3-way tie kinda, rankings do matter a bit) vampire: the masquerade — out for blood: okay like i get technically you’re not playing as a vampire—and maybe it should be labelled as a hunter: the reckoning book—but playing as a human witch who owns an occult shop is so fun. i like the story too, the characters feel really alive.

vampire: the masquerade — sins of the sires: yeah i mean i finished this in like 2 hours. not very long, kinda boring at some points. i think i romanced the monk by accident on my second playthrough but i didn’t know bc i had no indicators that it was gonna be a romantic thing. also stat checks didn’t seem to matter at all, like no matter what i clicked worked. very meh addition to the library.

just need to wait for hunter: the reckoning — the beast of glenkildove, which i’m very excited for. i like the human world overlap that book of hungry names and out for blood has.

In contrast Tertius' Beast is like a battering ram. It doesn't even consider there might be something stronger than him
