mayal has one of my favorite designs ever ❤️ may I ask what your thoughts are on her experience as a trans person in the imperium?

i am so happy to hear it!! 🥺🧡

i think being trans in imperial space VERY much depends on status, species, and of course your general life experiences. so highly individual for each character/person like in real life. I'm also very open to discussions in the notes below!

for mayal specifically, she didn't affirm her identity until she became vrupet's apprentice.

little content warning about abuse below (just mentioned)

before she was abducted by her first sith master at the age of 12, mayal started experimenting with gender (mostly through clothing, and thinking of a new name). this was on nar shaddaa, where she was born and where her family lives, and they supported her greatly! and personally i believe nar shaddaa is a very welcoming planet in regards to gender expression, since it's already so diverse and there is all kinds of people/aliens there. I don't think anyone would care.

with her previous master, her primary concern was survival. she didn't have the comfort to explore her curiosity and desires freely without fearing abuse. not necessarily because she was trans, her master just always found reasons to punish her for, no matter how ridiculous. therefore she tried to make herself as unnoticable as possible.

when she became vrupet's apprentice, it took a lot of time for her to become comfortable with vrupet in the first place. just because vrupet saved her, it didn't mean she was any better than her previous master - you always have to be careful who you trust.

only when mayal felt comfortable enough, and actually started trusting vrupet (after 2-3 years), she let her know her real name and preferred pronouns. vrupet and her children really became a big source of support for mayal. especially vrupet, who is also trans and grew up in the empire, became such a guiding figure to mayal's further exploration and expression of her gender. it definitely was a blessing to have someone who felt the same as you in such a hostile environment.

vrupet really helped build mayal's confidence (and wardrobe lol)! and mayal will forever be grateful for it.

as a full sith lord now, mayal learned how to command respect and obedience through her confidence. she is very powerful in the force, and as a sith in general people don't dare to insult or question her. and if they do, well. bye bye <3

👊 - A Best Friend

She's lucky enough to have some actual friends on the dark council, close friends at that and some with quite a fair amount of history to be considered best of friends. However, going from "work friend" to bestie with @kornyo's Vrupet is so surprisingly fun and interesting. She's someone that I think El looks up to and admires, and seeing this kind of pillar of the Council for the complicated and at times warm person that she is, I think Elora treasures their friendship even more. Plus catching up now to become Mom and have Mom Friends alongside like Ta'anet is PHENOMENAL. Joining the ranks of stunning moms is just the best way to rank up and reach her full potential. Though whenever she can get away from the Empire anymore she is sure to hunt down and find her Independent best bestie in @sotc 's Cahira.

🎭 - A Former Friend

I'd say she lost a lot of former friends in the course of the war, both to Jedi and Sith hands alike. Though some of the most potent former friends would be ones that have simply betrayed her and she had not anticipated it. Most notably another one of my OCs, Alejo Szalot, who is her master's counterpart in the Sphere of Defense. Both come from Ziost, both were in the academy in a similar time, both went to functions around Academy age and when they were Lords. There was a tenuous camaraderie and acknowledgment as to how similar they were, but they were always frenemies; close enough to rely on each other above others, but rivals enough to fight constantly. But both came up to Darth on their merits, so he had her grudging respect, up until he proved more Sith than her in weaving a political scheme in order for him to ascend higher and sacrifice many to do so. It was the better, cleverer, move, but he lost her respect all at once and now is simply another enemy with whom she has a history with.

🍜 - Someone who’s A Great Cook

I am contractually obligated and literally cannot go with anyone else other than @damarlegacy's Karo. Her Not-Legal-Husband-But-Still-Husband-Slash-"Mistress" due to obviously how impactful he is on her life and how absolutely dismal she is in comparison, which just makes him look better by comparison. He literally ruined her for anyone else because, among other things, he can cook like a mof and honestly what else could she do at that point? You just don't go back to takeout and boring Dromund Kaas taste after that, idk what to tell you. You also don't go back to the kind of partners you had growing up but that's another story.

09 — What is your favorite platonic relationship between your OCs?

Xiame and Ataqo 4 ever and ever. <3 They are best friends and go through thick and thin, are up to no good, and are generally just super fun for me to think about. They are each other’s lifeline when life goes to shit (it does frequently), and just inseparable. They even have a tattoo together. 💘

10 — What is your favorite familial relationship between your OCs?

Bahash and Kai’vii for sure. Especially in an environment that is so keen on destroying families in pursuit of power, having someone you really can always count on to be on your side and say anything that is on your mind to, is invaluable. They are very close and would do anything for each other. They know each other the best.

16 — Which OCs don’t know each other, but would get along great if they did?

Xiame and Kronos for sure, but also Mayal and Akhum. Xiame and Kronos share a somewhat similar background (fled the sith/left the jedi) and character, as well as chase after the same delights in life (fun, adventure). They have a mutual friend (Ataqo), but they never meet actually. They’d definitely get along great. Mayal and Akhum share the same terrible background (abducted from their family and forcefully apprenticed by a Sith) and also share the same quiet demeanor and quite a few hobbies! Them talking together would be like that philosopher's meme tbh.

22 — Which OCs spend the most time together?

Considering the entire timeline of my characters’ stories spanning more than 50 years in its entirety, I believe it’s Vrupet, Bahash, and Kai’vii. They never stray too far from one another. Both Bahash and Kai’vii grew up with Vrupet, so that’s a lot of time spent together, to begin with, and then even well into their adulthood, they are still by Vrupet’s side. I think that trumps every Jedi/Padawan dynamic I have, they really don’t meet often at all once the Padawan is finished with their training. Even among the padawans themselves, once they become knights they all are busy with missions and whatnot.

07 — What OC really needs the mom friend around?

I’m going to interpret ‚mom friend‘ as the voice of reason, responsible and overly caring for this ask. To be completely honest, none of my characters really need such a friend. Some are more reckless than others of course, and perhaps too adventurous or prone to risking a lot, but they manage despite it all. Though, I guess, Kronos being (currently) all by herself and letting herself go a bit too hard on the parties and substances of questionable origin and legality to get over her breakup (but she swears she’s fine!), could use a mom friend. or just a friend in general. :“)

08 — Which OCs are an old married couple (literally or figuratively)?

Literally speaking - Carter and Erik. Going from annoyance to respect to friendship and then relationship and marriage, their bickering is quite frankly on another level. But they’re such a great team, like a well-oiled machine. The honorary mention is Najilah in this trio cause she may not be married to them, but she is part of the relationship and the dynamic. Figuratively… Xiame and Ataqo. 100%. Honorary mention to Rayamir and Qabai, who, despite not engaging in a relationship with each other due to their commitment to the code, still slip up sometimes and act like the most caring and in-love couple ever. It makes the padawans SICK.

23 — Which OCs have fought with each other the most?

Rayamir and Xoxai for sure. Rayamir was her master while she was with the Jedi, and after the death and loss of her co-padawan and brother figure Ophodi, she was absolutely inconsolable and blamed the incident on Rayamir. The arguments that followed dragged on for months until Xoxai eventually left to find Vrupet. But even before that, they had frequent disagreements, which Rayamir was able to resolve eventually. Coincidentally, I’d also name Terek/Ravis (@/gruvu’s) and Qabai/Kronos as OCs that have fought more than others.

33 — Would Runona be a good parent?

YES. 100%. She’d be a really cool mom. Very chill and fun, perhaps a bit too adamant on discipline and routine, but it’s out of love and to help her kids manage in the future. She’s a great storyteller and up for any physical activities, but also emotionally very intelligent and capable of adjusting to her kids’ needs.

30 — How does Daro get along with his parents?

He and his mother have a great relationship. They’ve been through a lot together, especially growing up in Rattatak. Even after he left to pick up work in the Empire and moved to Dromund Kaas, he stays in contact with her always. He hated his father. There was nothing respectable about him, he was abusive towards his mother and towards Daro. When Daro was old enough, he challenged his father to a duel and killed him in the process. He didn’t take any token or trophy from that fight, because to him, his father was useless and not a target worth remembering.*

*This plays into my headcanon for Rattataki that they like to adorn themselves with lots of jewelry and badges of honor; may it be of hunts, victorious fights, gifts from a lover, or family heirlooms.

26 — Does Vrupet have an easy or hard time making friends?

Allies? Sure. Real Friends? Well. I think any Imperial of high rank struggles with that one. Betrayal is frequent and you’re always wiser to keep everyone at a distance. She has her children, Bahash and Kai’vii, and that’s enough for her.

40 — Who motivates her?

Vrupet is selfish. She is motivated by revenge, proving a point, and her own power. She loves her kids, don’t get me wrong - but they don’t motivate her to make the Empire or the galaxy a better place or some bullshit like that. She just wants to see how far she can conquer the Empire, as a former slave, go down in history, and then leave it to fend for itself when she eventually passes.

even 2 years after u sent me this ask, you have unleashed the rylen/ataqo gates and brother i am drowning in feelings again !!!! 🏊‍♂️

💗— Do they noticeably change once they’re in love? Is it easy to notice or just something their partner would pick up on?

Rylen is very, very hard to pick up on regarding any changes. He’s an Imperial Agent after all — he has full control of his body, facial expressions and (to a degree) emotions. Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them knoooooow. So from the outside, he would appear as always; quite stoic, distant and dry. And boring. So, so boring. (By design). So no, not even Ataqo would pick up on any changes on Rylen’s feelings unless Rylen lets his guard down on purpose. Ataqo is less in control. Naturally, as he has never formally received any agent training and grew up on Nar Shaddaa mainly working in kitchens & bars, there is no need for subtlety or subterfuge where your body could betray you. He only recently ‚joined‘ (questionable, really) the SIS and became their informant fairly recently, and occasionally acts as backup when fights break out. With other partners and crushes he has had, Ataqo had been way more open about his affection once he has really fallen in love with someone and it would be visible to anyone. Spring in his step, good mood, smiling all the time while sunk in his thoughts. But with Rylen? He is so, SO afraid of admitting it, both to him and to himself quite frankly. He’s afraid to tell or show Rylen because he doesn’t want to scare him away, due to the nature of their relationship, their backgrounds and affiliations. So he tries his best to appear ‚normal‘ as always, like nothing changed, however Rylen does pick up on it. And it scares Rylen as well.

Which is why…

🥀 — How well would they handle a breakup?

… Rylen then stops their relationship. Technically it’s not a breakup because they were never a couple to begin with, just an affair that got out of hand when feelings started to blossom (for both of them), but it very much feels like one. and BOTH of them cope with it so badly. so very very bad. Rylen immediately shoves all of his feelings into a corner of his mind and then never thinks about it again, and usually, that does the job for him, but not this time. His own mind betrays him, and he’s quite literally haunted by Ataqo and what they had, and how it changed Rylen’s perspective on life and his desires for life in general. Letting go of those memories and feelings is not as easy as he wants and needs it to be. On the outside, he seems relatively normal to the untrained eye. But he is distracted enough that Vrupet & her apprentices notice something is off about him and that he is less focused when not working than usual.

⚠️ warning for mentions of alcohol overuse ⚠️

Ataqo is doing bad as well, and again, it’s more visible to outsiders than Rylen. He’s been smoking and drinking more, to the point where he had several blackouts after too many nights of partying in a row to distract himself, his insomnia is at an all time high, and as a result he is super unfocused and just tired all the time. During this time he befriends Kronos, who also goes through the same thing as him (break up) so they lift each other up, but also let each other indulge in way too much than they should. It takes Xiame and Daro to get both of them to snap out of this phase, and eventually they do. Ataqo does eventually try to get over it in a ‚fake it till you make it‘ way trying to convince himself that it never could have worked out between Rylen and him, and it is working. somewhat. so in that aspect, ataqo is doing better than rylen.

and then they stumble into each other again and we are SO back at where we started <3

❣️— When do they first say ‚I love you‘?

When they get back together again, it’s actually Rylen that says it first. It’s a conscious decision and full on confession and declaration of love on his part — in a 20-minute speech about his life and ‚how he never even considered this was a possibility for someone like him to desire and experience and that he was so so incredibly stupid to ever deny himself and ataqo this relationship and that he wants to be with him forever‘ kind of way. <3 its one of my favorite scenes to think about, because it would happen in such a seemingly random moment — ataqo would have just made them breakfast, nothing fancy or super hard to make, and everything seemed normal. but rylen, sitting at this small table in this super small apartment thats WAY too expensive than what it’s actually worth, being served breakfast that was made with such love and care, rylen would just explode in this moment from all he’s feeling and just rant his heart out until he’d come to an abrupt stop, breathless for a few seconds, before just saying ‚i love you‘ which is THE most agitated and emotional ataqo would have ever seen him. in his life.
