Secret Identities AU #3

revolver, soulburner, kusanagi, and ghost girl

SIAU tag

⇀ Revolver

So the reason I didn't address Revolver in this AU before is because with the other characters (Yusaku, Naoki, Go, Aoi) I tried to keep them recognizable. The changes made are mostly in their circumstances, but their core traits are the same.

That's not the case with SIAU Revolver.

In a secret identities story, half the fun is how characters show off a different side of themselves. People love Contrast, so I was disappointed that with Vrains, Aoi is kind of the only one who takes advantage of that (and then it drops off after season 1). You could argue Takeru but... I want a true old fashioned Alter Ego, where the secret identity is something that frees you to become someone else.

Anyway, I want to make IRL Ryoken a pathetic, unsocialized, sopping wet cat.

I want him to be a basement-dwelling, chronically on Reddit and StackOverflow, miserable little nerd who only goes outside to eat hotdogs. You can keep Revolver exactly the same with his smirks and his monologues, but when he logs off of Vrains, he has a nervous breakdown over the landscaper making eye contact with him through a window.

It's absolutely bait, and people would gobble it right up. The ultimate Yugioh meow meow. 

He may be a hacking genius, but he can't take care of himself. The Knights of Hanoi look up to Revolver-sama with utmost loyalty, but outside of Vrains he's useless and they have to do everything for him. They beg him to make one relationship outside of Hanoi, so of course he just goes with the boy from the hot dog truck, the only person he sees semi-regularly.

Secret identity stories thrive from betrayal. Ryoken will never recover from the betrayal that the hot dog guy is Playmaker.

And while I'm at it, I think it would be fun if mid-series, he shows up at Yusaku's school as a transfer student for Hanoi Reasons. You weebs know what I'm talking about. Yusaku's mind is drifting in class as he thinks about how there's been no sign of Revolver since The Confrontation. The teacher announces that they'll be having a new student in class. Yusaku looks up, their eyes meet, and he thinks to himself Oh hell no. And Ryoken is having an even worse time.

Think of the possibilities, okay?

⇀ Soulburner

I had some comments on the first SIAU post saying that they'd love to see Takeru fitting into the Yusaku Defense Squad, but the thing is, Takeru isn't really a character I would have created if I was actually making SIAU from scratch.

Like I've said before, Soulburner was added to Season 2 because Yusaku needed a real "best friend character." But in SIAU, he already has Naoki, he has Go, he has Aoi, he even has Kusanagi and Ai. Making him Yusaku's best friend would not only be redundant, but it would undercut the friendship arcs that were developed and earned through "Season 1."

Originally I thought that I would have just cut him out completely, but I've come up with a better idea. This one's also going to be quite divergent from canon.

While I was doing research, I read a lot of fan reactions from when the episodes were coming out live, and the widespread theory about Soulburner... was that he would be the Bakura of Vrains. That is, a character who was friendly, but either reveals themself as or becomes something twisted and antagonistic. It's not a rigid definition, but some classic examples would be like Ryou from GX, Kiryu, Rei from Zexal, and Sora. A lot of people were waiting for the other shoe to drop with Soulburner, but it never did.

I'll sign onto it though. I'm not sure how I'd make it work exactly. IRL Takeru, the "facade," can be the soft-spoken, normie glasses guy that we see in Vrains, but I don't think I'd make Soulburner as... unhinged as the Bakura usually is, since Spectre already exists. I might model his personality more off spiky Takeru, the one we see in the Blood Shepherd flashback. Intense, angry, unstable, prone to lashing out whether you deserve it or not. And well, maybe he can be a little unhinged too... as a treat.

Ultimately, Soulburner should be an antagonist, so it makes the most sense to put him on the side of the Ignis. I'd erase the Bohman stuff (sorry Bohman likers...) so that this conflict is represented by Yusaku being in conflict with Soulburner, and Ai being in conflict with the rest of the Ignis. I think it also makes for a more compelling story if the Ignis are a united faction, and Playmaker and Ai are stuck in the center of a three-way conflict between SOL, Hanoi, and the Ignis. It makes Ai's conflict much more poignant, that all of the Ignis are asking him to join their side against humanity, but he can't make that decision. The Ignis dynamic would also be interesting to explore in this scenario, with Lightning, Aqua, Windy, and Flame actually being on the same side. 

As for what Soulburner is doing on the Ignis's side, I'd have to... develop the plot a lot more... Maybe the Ignis are using him? It would require the Ignis to be more sinister, especially Flame. It could be connected to the Ignis targeting their Lost Incident counterparts; rather than the SOLtis route, they plan to use actual human bodies as hosts. That would be pretty compelling, and it's a Yugioh classic. I'd be so down for Kusanagi dueling Lightning in Jin's body, and Earth facing Spectre to try and steal his body (maybe even succeeding and infiltrating the Knights of Hanoi? That could be fun). The Flame and Soulburner relationship could also be fascinating in this iteration, although I'm not exactly sure where I'd go with it.

Open to other thoughts on how to make Bakura!Soulburner work!

⇀ Kusanagi

I want him to have more of a surrogate brother dynamic with Yusaku. With a greater emphasis placed on Yusaku's secret identity, Kusanagi being the only person who knows that about him becomes even more important, as someone who knows both sides of his life and can see how each affects the other.

I think it's clear that Kusanagi feels like he failed Jin, and I think it would be poignant for that to bleed into how he sees Yusaku. Because he's thinking about the life that Jin should have lived. 

He's the one who encourages Yusaku to make friends with the Duel Club, and translates normal high school interactions for him when Yusaku doesn't understand them, and worries about him balancing being Playmaker and his personal life.

Since Zaizen stays an antagonist in this AU, I would give that confrontation to Kusanagi instead: about how Yusaku is a child and a victim and should leave this to the adults.

At first, Kusanagi just sees Yusaku as an ally to find those responsible for the Lost Incident, but as they grow closer, he sees Yusaku as his brother, someone who was hurt, who's still a child, who should be living a normal high school life, and feels more uneasy about Yusaku taking on the heaviest burden in pursuit of his revenge. Zaizen's platitude of "Leave this to me, you don't need to do this, I'll find those responsible" carries more weight if Kusanagi is the one saying it to Yusaku.

The fallout drama... immaculate.

⇀ Ghost Girl

In SIAU, I want there to be a greater emphasis of different factions in conflict not just with Yusaku but with each other. And I want Ghost Girl to play for all of them because she deserves to backstab as many people as possible.

Also, since there isn't a true "secret identity plot twist" so far, I think it would be fun for Ghost Girl to be the one. By which I mean her true identity is revealed to be someone who's been under our noses the entire time. Corny I know, but it's Yugioh. I think it would be fun.

Specifically I want her to be that secretary with a crush on Akira. Hayami. I want her to be spilling coffee on Akira and blushing and going "Oh Chief Zaizen!" while inserting dubious USBs into his computer behind his back. I THINK IT WOULD BE FUN, OKAY?

I'm not sure if I would include Blood Shepherd in this AU, I don't know if he would add anything. But I'll always be a sucker for a complicated sibling dynamic, so who knows? Maybe he infiltrates SOL at the same time as her and they're both fighting over the dubious USB behind Zaizen's back LMAO

Okay, I just need to tell this to another Duel Links lore enthusiast like me. I am probably overanalyzing this cutscene in Spectre's event where he makes everyone duel him. Spectre mentions that he wants everyone (except Soulburner) to remember the event of the Tower of Hanoi (a great tower of mass network destruction basically, don't want to give full details to accidentally spoil things-). Because there are 7 people present with memories of the event, the Tower was created thanks to Memory System.

So my theory is, does Spectre (and to an extent, Revolver, since he is Spectre's boss) want to use the Tower o Hanoi as a sort of bait to grab Kaiba's attention? Because IF the Tower can destroy Duel Links, then Kaiba needs to do something about it, right??

Since there are multiple shows- which yugioh show is everyone watching? If I wanted to get into it, where do I start?

Honestly, I'm not a great source of advice for this nonnie because I've only ever watched the original Duel Monsters, Season 0, and a bit of GX when I was a kid. I couldn't tell you much about 5Ds or anything about the other shows that came after, and I don't plan on watching them either.

What I can tell you is that there's not a running story throughout the shows that makes it necessary to watch them all or necessarily in order. As far as I know, they're each their own self-contained show with no strong dependency on the others, so in theory you could start anywhere and enjoy yourself.

The chronological order is Duel Monsters -> GX -> 5Ds -> ZeXal -> Arc V -> Vrains -> Sevens -> Go Rush!!! but anything past 5Ds is completely out of my comfort zone in terms of who the protagonists and what the stories are about.

My advice would be to start with Duel Monsters because its the first one, its near and dear to my heart, and it sets the stage for what Duel Monsters the game really is and where it came from. But if you started it and didn't have the best time, there's no shame in trying out one of the other shows. Like I said, to my knowledge they're largely self-contained, so you wouldn't be missing out on story beats or character plots by trying out another, and you might find something you genuinely fall in love with.

Jaden and Yusei, my beloved blorbit. The painfully monstrous and the painfully human. The narrative foils of all time. Jaden Yuki, the creatchur autism boi of all time. <3 I need to write about them more.

I know what you mean about the new shows. I'm still a ways off from watching them, but I still want to remember they exist but keep forgetting. What do you means vrains is six years old??? (<- was not even a yugioh fan when vrains was airing) You're telling me there's probably going to be new one after that??? That the days start coming and they don't stop coming?????

Shoutouts to the sevens and go rush fans. They are the mightiest of soldiers. I know nothing about their shows but I'm hesitantly penciling them into the groupchat au anyways because I have seen maybe three clips but I know this funny little alien guy is near and dear to my heart.

Obviously there's a bit of a shift between Vrains and the Sevens era, being made for new audiences, a little tone shifting (which we LOVE, because any franchise that stays the same forever is no bueno.) and that makes it easy to group the first six shows into one group. But I also think there's a fascinating dialogue between shows 1-3 and shows 4-6. I didn't realize it until I was a good way into Arc-V, but each of the second trilogy protagonists sorta reflects the first three.

With Yuma and Yugi, it's very purposeful, a stated "return to form" with the chipper kid and his ghost companion who lives in his special necklace. And when I was gushing over Yusei in 5Ds, I got a lot of people saying "Man, you're going to love Yusaku." They're both the rbf hacker protags who fight the government. Lots to love.

But Jaden and Yuya????? Did not imagine I would come out of Arc-V going "omg they're foils. They're the same story through a different lens. They need to TALK to eachother and bond over their shared experiences."

Even leaving out my pet theory of "Zarc Was An Incarnation Of Jaden In The Original Timeline", they're just so. *clenches fist* The childhood trauma of being a weird kids and masking with an overly bubbly personality only to learn the great anger they've been trying to hide is powerful enough to rip apart reality and they're secretly harbingers of destruction.

By the end of GX, I think Jaden has wonderfully come to term with that. By the end of Arc-V, I think Yuya hasn't.

Their dynamic in the gc AU is very much to me Yuya is still struggling with Z-arc stuff, but not saying anything about it because that'd be weird, so he just kinda frets about it until he hits a breaking point and Jaden gets to offer his advice on dealing with all this.

I am so interested in exploring this that it actually got me started writing fic again,,, which I haven't done in like a year, so wish me luck. I'll keep y'all updated :)

Angst aside, they're also just. One braincell between them. Theatre kid and guy who has never once acted natural in his entire life. Kid making a scene at a Waffle House while his friend slowly eats the entire menu and offers suggestions. Jaden is a pokemon fan and Yuya is a kingdom hearts girlie, I've decided this, and they takes turns infodumping to each other. Jaden summons duel spirits so Yuya can ride around on Hiphippo even when he's not dueling. They trade funny things they've heard their dragons say. They're eldritch and inhuman and best friends, your honor.

   “I’m sorry.” Ryoken squeaked in the tiniest voice.

   He stood in the doorframe between the hallway and the break room. Yes, they had a breakroom here. Funnily enough, there was some semblance of comfort, of HR and OSHA compliance but such mercies only extended to the white coats: not those confined to the white rooms.

   “You have nothing to be sorry about, Ryoken.” Kyoko assured him. “You did the right thing.” She reached out, touched his face, caressed him and put on her own brave expression.

   “You should evacuate, Ryoken.” Aso said. “I don’t know why you came back here.”

   Kyoko pouted - or squirmed, really. She had never seen Aso like this. So grave and stony. 

   “Find your Father and leave, go home.” Aso ordered him.

   Ryoken nodded and he had tears streamed down his face. He scurried off, down the hall and his footsteps echoed. The air in the break room remained tense, however. Perhaps worse than before, as though all oxygen was being drained out of it. Past the mundane table and chairs, cheap as cheap could be, and the notices on the what’s on board and the toaster and the electric kettle and everything which was so normal and yet.

   Disgustingly wrong.

   Aso let go of his breath, “We’re so fucked.”

   “I know.” Kyoko murmured.

   She shifted slightly, her head hung low and she glanced at Aso. He stomped off and sat down in one of the chairs. He flopped down noisily into it, his demeanour slovenly over the plastic-topped table. His expression was hopeless, confused and conflicted.

   Kyoko softly turned around and sat down with Aso. There were only three chairs at this table. In theory to discourage too many people from having too many breaks at once: to get away from their crimes, to have some coffee and think to themselves they were doing an awful job. Didn’t matter much anymore. The fire alarm had, practically, been flipped and the sirens would be coming for them soon.

   It was best to flee. 

   They shouldn’t stay.

   Yet look at them. They were sitting down together, cold tea and all in front of them, half eaten sandwiches and sweetie biscuits, too. If they left now, when the authorities found their lair, it would be like they had evaporated into thin air but there were things to do. Fingerprints to wipe and bleach, records to be destroyed. Mania and panic to spread and yet…

   They didn’t lift so much as a finger..

   “We are so fucked.” Aso repeated. A different emphasis on a different word.

   He, and Kyoko, were both rotating the same thought in their mind. Ryoken had tattled. He had gotten to the other side, escaped through their clutches, and rang the police. Good on him. Honestly. At least someone had some semblance of moral and good sense. Just a shame it had to be an eight year old. 

   “I know.” Kyoko said in an even quieter voice than before.

   Aso looked up from his despairing, out his hand and lifted his chin out of his palm. His expression was full of ache, full of pity as he gazed into Kyoko’s eyes. They watered. 

   “You need to get out of here, Kyoko.” Aso said. “Change your name, deny everything, fuck, claim that you were a minor when you were recruited by a groomer for this project.”

   “Aso.” Kyoko tried to put a stop to Aso’s rambling but she barely put a speed bump into his rambling.

   “You are young, Kyoko, you had - no, you still have - a bright future ahead of you. Don’t let me or Kogami steal that away from you.” Aso told her.

   “No, I refuse. I’m going down with this ship, I can’t abandon you or Ryoken.” Kyoko replied.

   Her daring was heartbreaking, utterly misplaced and yet Aso couldn’t help but be fond for the stupidity of her courage. She was so smart but she was twice as loyal, it seemed. For better or for worse, mostly for worse…

   Kyoko found her maturity. Her clarity. It could have been Aso’s effect on her, absorbing how she saw him treat Ryoken in the best of interests, even if it meant being cruel. That was some irony and it weighed down on Aso as he, in turn, broke on the inside. It was time to do something, find some kindness and conscience. 

   He reached across the table, his arm snaked across the vinyl wrap atop of it. He lovingly took Kyoko’s hand and caressed his thumb across her knuckles. Her hand was so small inside of his own but his affection conveyed volumes as he couldn’t find the words to convince Kyoko that she deserved to escape. That she shouldn’t let her life be ruined over this, too, because it was true.

   She had been dazzled and deceived by their glorious leader. It was fools like him, and Dr. Genome and the rest of their cohort, who had no excuses. They had their PhDs and degrees already. Kyoko was doing this for what was twisted extra credit. 

   “I’m sorry.” Aso told her. 

   “Too late for that now.” Kyoko bitterly replied.

   Kyoko squeezed Aso’s hand. The first sign of her even acknowledging Aso’s affections given that his words were not resonating with her. Kyoko took a deep breath.

   “What do we do?” Kyoko asked. “Do we just sit here, lie down like dogs and let ourselves get loaded up and taken away?”

   “If that’s what you want.” Aso replied. 

   “Not particularly.” Kyoko said. “Again.” She shed a tear, her voice cracked. As did her calm, cool, and collected facade. “I don’t want to abandon you, o-or especially Ryoken.”

   “Then how do we best protect each other?” Aso asked.

   “By not sitting here.” Kyoko half chuckled, half cried.

   “Alright, let’s get our affairs in order then.” Aso offered.

   Kyoko nodded. She got up but she didn’t let go of Aso’s hand. Instead, she came around, moved Aso’s arm for him to accommodate her movements. Of which, there were precision. Bravery. Guilt. Her inner body language betrayed her as she attempted quite the defiant stiff upper lip. Instead, there was a tremor in her knuckles, her blood pumped and her heart pounded. 

   Aso was much the same. “Let’s start by placing all the codes in the containment units, that way the rescuers only have to hit enter and they will be released.” he decided.

   “Sounds good to me.” Kyoko said. “Then, we get the hell out of dodge, lie low and then link up with Dr. Kogami and his son again after the first news cycle. Dr. Genome can run interference on that.”

   “It's a plan.” Aso shrugged.

   “It is…” Kyoko replied.

   It was cold. Not just the air conditioning which blasted but how they were talking. Their victims, the small, sole mercy unto them that they could afford. It wouldn’t be enough for a sliver of clemency, of course, but it was better than making things hard even until the bitterest of ends.

   Tick, tock.

    Kyoko let go. Now, it was the inside of Aso’s palm which twitched. He missed the sensation of her touch already as he steeled himself for the hellfire and carnage that was on the brink of being unleashed but alas. They had wasted enough time being human, holding hands.

Hey hey☺️! This is a long one and may be one of multiple. There's some shit I'm tryna sus out.

I've seen people ask questions about Yuamu and her motives and what that means and what implications it has etc. etc. and since we've gotten another episode where she explains nothing and continues to be an impossible force, I think it's time for me to step in.

As a murder mystery fan, I believe that figuring out "complicated" plot lines is kinda my forte, which means it's time for another:

Crack Theory Time!!

So, Yuamu's plan is simply to become Otes to ensure that the events of the Sevens (the one she saw via Yuga's memories) plays out the same way, ending with him coming back as seen in 62. I believe that her interpretation of time (based on Yuga in that same episode alluding to the future possibly changing) is a linear, malleable line (there's a word for it but I don't care). Basically, despite her seeing the future, not only can it still be altered, but that there is a singular future. In other words, the future is not an inevitability.

I think she plans to erase her memories of her connections in order to play the role of Otes properly. Which means at some point she:

Writes the Sevens book

Joins Goha

Leaves/is fired from Goha

Makes of mech of her own

Learns software engineering??

Makes sentient AI??

Gets her hands on SRM

All before the beginning of Sevens. Obviously some of these things need to be done BEFORE she wipes her memories, however there is a way for this to be possible, and I believe this will determine whether Otes is her or someone else:

Does she know that Sweets Kakako has been watching them?

(If you are reading this and have not watched Sevens, Sweets is one of the characters that worked with Otes.)

Sweets has been here since episode 20 and has never been shown in full. She should not be here, period. If Yuamu realized that Sweets is here and her plan takes her into account, I believe that the show will use that twist as a way to explain how she became Otes, if not, I believe she has another plan in mind:

I think Yuamu isn't being forthcoming and plans to make Yuhi Otes.

You may say the skin tones don't match and I say, look at Goha Yuga. They don't give a fuck.

I'm here to formally put in my vote for YuhiOtes!! That is my true, honest belief. For once I'm being serious.

This is coupled with some process of elimination btw.

YuaOtes would be cool, but unfortunately this is still a Shonen, no villain, and unfortunately, no female villain is succeeding. Now if she's wasn't a villain, would I think it's Yuamu?? Yes absolutely. But i have no faith that after Queen (Vrains) and Nanaho (Sevens) that Yu-Gi-Oh is capable of writing a female villain period, much less having them win.

YugaOtes seems more plausible, if we weren't 119 episodes into another show. Granted, what a twist, right? Especially since Yuamu's plan stems from avoiding that outcome at all costs. However, this show has already used a Yuga-based twist 3 times (his intro in 38, his name in 60, and the MR stuff in 90). Not saying they won't do it again, but narratively it would've made sense to show evidence of that is 92 of Sevens.

Now there is one issue; if Otes isn't an Ohdo. Not only does that mean Yuamu is completely wrong about everything, but it mean Otes is, purposefully or coincidentally, fucking with this entire bloodline, which is ridiculous. There is also the Earthdamar shit but this post is already too long.

I like to think Aois Bio Dad died and left her mother as a widow and Akiras Bio dad had a divorce with his Bio mom and he took Akira in the divorce or the mom just wanted nothing to do with them

Anyways here’s my silly dumb little crack hc/theory, I like to think Akiras Bio Mom is also Spectres Bio mom and earths the only one who knows

Duel Links NPC (Standard Duelist) Headcanons (all of these are my opinion and many may disagree):

The "Knight of Hanoi" in VRAINS World is actually a few different people that have the same avatar. One is the real deal, but the rest are cosplaying to scare people.

The Standard Duelists that can appear in any world are not based on any real people, but constructed AIs created to encourage more people to Duel (from the perspective of in-multiverse lore). The rest of the Standard Duelists are created from "memories", or something. (when i say "real people" here i mean real people in-multiverse)

The reason that certain VRAINS Standard Duelists can have different reactions to different characters but that doesn't happen in any other world is because the Duel Links multiverse connector whatevertheheck connected directly to Link VRAINS, so the Standard Duelists there have a much stronger "identity". (this is just my theory, not much evidence for this)

Unlike the variable Knight of Hanoi in VRAINS world, the Sector Security officer in 5D's World is always the same guy.

(Crack Theory): Josh used to exist in the world of the OCG Structures manga, he watched the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters anime as a kid but only ever played the game casually. One day, he somehow got iseakai'd into Duel Links. I don't think I've written any currently unless it's Yu-Gi-Oh! related since you can smack some of the shows together. If it isn't YGO shows being smacked together, it probably won't exist. Maybe a series AU for another series but them meeting that series' characters?

I've gotten some hate on my Anikishipping fics but tbh idc anymore. I'll write whatever makes me happy and if people have a problem with that, they can suck my dick. Like idk what else to say.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I had a Spamano/ItaPan/MolSeb werewolf fic that I was gonna do but I gave the fic away to a moot to write instead since I lost interest in it and didn't want to write anymore.

What are your writing strengths?

Tbh, I don't know. Probably internal dialogue and emotions. I like writing arguments and deep conversations cause it's so fun playing around with people's emotions <33

What are your writing weaknesses?

DESCRIPTIONS AND USING FANCY WORDS.

I don't wanna sound repetitive with words but god, I need to work on having a bigger vocabulary.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I try to use it in fics considering I'm in the Hetalia fandom but I do try to add translations at the bottom/on the notes if it's something that most people wouldn't know by now or more complicated items. I try to not use it cause I don't want to be that person with awful Google Translate or sucky translation app language errors but yk, sometimes duty calls.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Probably Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal or Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V if I'm being honest. I don't remember y'all. It's been a SECOND.

What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I wanna write Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains content but the show is so SLOW and BORING for me but I really LOVE Spectre and I would love to maybe write some Respectfulshipping.

I'd also love to write some Gakuto fics for Sevens cause they did his character SO WRONG it's makes me SO MAD.

Ryoken Kogami, Aoi Zaizen.

Ryoken Kogami:

How I feel about this character - He's not one of my all-time favs but I like him pretty well. I definitely think he's one of the prettiest YGO characters. There are some aspects of his personality I feel like they could have gone into more, but I feel that way about a lot of characters. Overall: he tried his best, against some pretty stiff odds, and I have to respect that about him.

All the people I ship romantically with this character - I basically ship him with Spectre. Maybe Souburner a teensy bit, but Spectre would be my go-to.

My non-romantic OTP for this character - Naturally it is fun to watch him interact with Yuusaku. They have a lot of stuff going on between them that I feel like did not get fully unpacked in the show, and it would be fun to dig deeper into that. Also in the future it would be fun to see him and Ai figuring out how to be friends, ro at least not be all "Kill on sight" with each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character - I don't even know what the unpopular opinions are, so you just get An Opinion. The more I think about it, the more I like him better as an antagonist than as one of the good guys. I can really think of ways he could have been made into a more persistent threat without losing his fundamental sympathy. Man, now this is making me want to rewrite Vrains again and I already have enough to do.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. - Can we explain what that mark on his hand is all about? I mean, I have my theory but nobody ever explained it. Also I would be down for more friendly/casual interactions between him and the rest of the cast, especially people who aren't part of his immediate team. Come to think of it, this show had so many crises going on non-stop that it feels like we hardly ever got to see anyone just hanging out being friends.

Aoi Zaizen:

How I feel about this character - Fairly neutral. She was there. Sometimes she did stuff. I'm not sure she was as well integrated into the plot as she could have been.

All the people I ship romantically with this character - I honestly have no ships for her. Maybe she can date Miyu? Or not; I don't have strong feelings about it.

My non-romantic OTP for this character - I like seeing her hang out with Ema. They are good sister-figures to each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character - Again, I don't know what the popular or unpopular opinions are, so I'll just state an opinion: why the blazes did she need so many costumes? What was the point of that? Nobody else got their outfits constantly redesigned, so what the heck?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. - I kind of feel like the thing with her being just the friend of Aqua's original instead of her actually being the original was kind of a cop-out, especially when she and Aqua were so visually and thematically linked. I feel like a few tweaks would have made her (and by extension, her brother's) story a lot stronger.

Just finished the episode (typing this during the outro) and uh... my crackpot theory of Kuaidul and Yudias fusing/Kuaidul becoming his spirit guide is seeming weirdly likely. Or... maybe that's my tinfoil hat acting up. And... the fact that if Kuaidul dies, I won't be able to take it.

I... I haven't cried like this about a Yugioh episode since the back half of VRAINS.

...Honestly you may just have to consider this my review of the episode. I don't know if I'll be able to write a coherent full-fledged review, this hit me way harder than I was ever expecting.
