here is my definitive thought process re: ranking (no one is allowed to boo me)

#4 oikawa: PROBABLY A VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION but i think he rests on his pretty boy laurels a bit! not saying that he's in ANY way a bad fuck but i simply do not think he outranks his competitors here. so hot it's almost kind of annoying when he takes his clothes off.

#3 makki: he's got the spirit!! into weird stuff but is also very eager to please. very average guy energy but in an endearing way. still a very good fuck and especially as a hookup because he makes u feel very comfortable.

#2 mattsun: listen. i wanted to put him first. i really did. this is where i quite literally agonized in my internal debate. in fact, i would argue that he IS the most sexually charismatic of the four—however i live and die on the hill that his dick is HUGE. to the point that. it is arguably too big. u cannot have a quickie with issei because u either need like an hour of foreplay or enough lube that u basically need to take a hazmat shower after you're done. this is the only reason i marked him down. champagne problems.

Lost in Adaptation | Arisu's Lack of Ambition

when i first found Alice in Borderland (Aib) on Netflix, the second season hadn't even officially been announced yet. so after binge watching the first season, i stayed up the whole night to binge read all 65 chapters of the manga online. then i forced my roommate to rewatch the first season with me the next day

digesting the series this way gave me a lot of insight to how the live action adaptation differs from the original manga. in a lot of ways, i consider the adaptation to be the better version - and i don't recommend fans of the live action read the manga for... various reasons i'll get into in another post down the line

but... the original manga contains a lot of extra insight into the characters that i believe is crucial to fully appreciating the AiB series as a whole. for that reason, i'm staring this Lost in Adaptation mini series to explore all the differences in the live action for those who haven't, can't, or simply don't want to read the manga. and what better place to start than with the titular character: Arisu

in the real world, Arisu is a slacker with zero motivation or ambition outside of playing video games. he's a disappointment to his father and is made to look even worse when compared to his successful younger brother, Hajime. the Netflix adaptation doesn't really explore why Arisu behaves this way, but the manga gives plenty of insight towards the thought processes and real world lives of the characters

Arisu's mother passed away at an early age, leaving his father to raise two young boys on his own. instead of rising to the challenge, Arisu's father becomes bitter and takes his grief out on his sons

while Arisu's father comes off as cold and distant in the Netflix series, he straight up verbally and emotionally abuses Arisu for years. nothing Arisu does is ever good enough for his father. there's even an instance where his father actively sabotages Arisu's musical pursuits when it distracts too much from his studies

side note - i also think Arisu's brief musical background is part of why he believed he and Kyūma could have been best friends if they'd met in the real world

this level of childhood abuse is more than enough to explain Arisu's lack of ambition in life, but it goes deeper. Arisu's specialty in the Borderlands is as a Hearts player. he understands how social pressure and emotions can be used to manipulate others, and he learned this from how he was pitted against his brother, Hajime

at some point, Arisu decided that the only way to win his father's game was to not participate at all. because even if Arisu did manage to gain his father's approval, it'd negatively impact Hajime and wouldn't feel much like a victory at all. so Arisu slips into the role of a slacker and plays his part perfectly

this also explains why Arisu has so much animosity towards the game creators (especially Mira, the Queen of Hearts), and why he'd try to drop out of the Seven of Hearts game to save his friends

thankfully, Arisu manages to take his trauma and use it to his advantage in Borderland. one of Arisu's biggest strengths as a player is that he always manages to turn his weakness into a strength

Sure! Haven't done this kind of stuff in a while! Spoilers under the cut!

1: I actually discovered dra because I spoiled myself the good ending. And then I wanted to know wtf happened.

2: DRA. I like the story and characters better. And also smol Teruya.

3: In DRA, my least fave chapter is ch5 and my fave is ch4, while for sdra2, my fave is ch1 and my least fave is ch3.

4: Mikado. Come on, we got to bully him! It was fun!

5: IROHA. My baby artist, I love her so muchhhhhh

6: Yoruko and Yuki. These two need a break.

7: Favourites are (DRA&SDRA2) Teruya, Iroha and Kiyoka, and least faves are Mitch and Mikado.

8: A lot of them, to be honest. In Sdra2, most of the talents of the voids are used in murder plans. Like fricking HAJIME JUMPING OFF OF THE BELL TOWER, WTF WAS THAT???

9: Yes. A few. Iroha, since she didn't apport anything and was selfish at times. Kiyoka, since we barely got to see her talent and interact with others, Kanata because she was just downplayed as the 'innocent pure angel that must die horribly', etc.

10: Kiyoka and Kanata. I love those two, they deserve better.

11: HIBIKI DESERVES A LOT BETTER!! SHE WAS TRYING TO CHANGE AND THEN CHAPTER 3 HAPPENED!!

12: (DRA) While I do complain that we should have seen more of Kanata, it makes sense Kinji targetted her. However. Kakeru. I wanted to see him go more Ace Attorney in the trials. I wanted to see hkw he would have reacted to chalter 4 and chapter 5. (SDRA2) Hibiki. Literally. I wanted to see her last till the end of the game. At least the Voidswap AU did that.

13: Honestly, I don't remember them, but I remember seeing Utsuro's was fitting, so Utsuro's.

14: Honestly, my favourite will always be the ch5 executions of sdra2. It introduces the failing to vote the right culprit tactic that now a lot of fangans used. And I've seen popular ones like Inanimateronpa or Ronpa and Friends use it. As long as people don't overuse it, it can be perfect.

15: I dunno. I guess I would have like seeing Setsuka kill Kanade like the Voidswap AU pulled.

16: Fave trial: DRA ch4 and SDRA2 ch2. Least fave: DRA ch5 and SDRA2 ch3

17: My favourite plot twist, or the one that got to me, was that Utsuro had replaced Yuki. Like, boy, how the fuck do you even pull that shit?! Huh??? My least favourite plot twist is the same as ASOOT's mod. I hate it so much. If he wanted her as an antag, she cou,d have been interesting, honestly. But don't do her like this.

18:... Aromantic Kizuna. *Gets beaten with pebbles.*

19:...Sdra2 is overrated and its writing sucks, the only thing that's saving him is the voice acting that's being made right now. *Gets shot.*

20: Teruya's death. Call me a crybaby, but seeing his last moments made me fucking cry. This man just wanted to help. He just thought he was doing the right thing.

@danganronpasurvivoraskblog did their own take on this and tagged me, so here's my thoughts!

I was just perusing Tumblr one day, say SDRA2 in my recommended and looked it up on TV Tropes. It was pretty interesting-sounding, so I looked into it. Not much else to say, really : P

DRA. While SDRA2 is more visually-pleasing, I think DRA has a better and more well-crafted story overall.

Faves: DRA Chapter 4 and SDRA2 Chapter 5. Least Faves: Chapter 3 for both of them.

I have a lot of great things to say about the usage of both Akane Taira and Utsuro, and their implementation in the game...but I feel like I have to give Mikado credit for actually being a villainous force throughout all of SDRA2. We got to know him as a villain and thus all that characterization wasn't crammed into a single trial.

It's a toss up between Maku and Emma, because I feel like the two of them really had a lot of personal history that you got to see in their FTEs. Maku clearly regretted his actions, and Emma tormenting him with puns was pretty funny. The Void Theater segments honestly made me want to include them in my own story, given that there was a lot of history between the Voids we didn't get to see.

Yoruko. She really deserved a break after all that.

Faves: Kanata & Akane for DRA; Hibiki, Shinji, Setsuka, Yoruko & Sora in SDRA2. Least faves: Mitch and Tsurugi for DRA; Syboi and Iroha for SDRA2

A LOT. Frankly, the entire Another series barely utilizes anyone's actual ultimate talents, and instead relies on character quirks you'll probably forget about or actual literal luck.

Iroha. She doesn't do anything to improve anybody's situation; not the main group, not the Voids, barely even her own most of the time. She's borderline useless at the best of times, and at her worst, she's selfish, bratty, petulant, brainless and just a detriment. She doesn't change, adapt, contribute or even make for a particularly interesting character, so what was the point of her inclusion, much less her survival?

Kanata. There's so much more that could've been done with her character beyond just making her the pure angel who apparently had to die horribly so we would feel bad.

Anyone who's followed me for long enough knows my answer is going to be Hibiki. Nobody got screwed over as badly as she did. Say what you will about Yuki being reduced to a brain in a jar, at least he actually survived.

Once again, Hibiki, hands down. Her survival would've been so much more meaningful and interesting, and could've contributed so much to the story and themes, as well as the conflicts both Yuki and Sora were facing.

I don't really care about the executions, but I guess Syobai's would be interesting to see. It's pretty fitting for him.

Kinji's. It was a nice mix of thematically appropriate but also completely bizarre, as we expect from DR.

Not to steal an idea from WeebyNewz, but I think DRA's first chapter would've been a lot more interesting if Kiyoka was the one who killed Mitch while trying to protect Akane.

Faves: DRA Chapter 6 and SDRA2 Chapter 1. Least Faves: DRA Chapter 1 and SDRA2 Chapter 3.

Plot twist that got me: That Mikado actually got away with murder in Chapter 5, and nobody, not even Iroha, even realized until it was too late. She genuinely thought that she was the one who poisoned Teruya, but she got played just as hard. He was this close to winning and it was actually on his own merits. Least favorite plot twist: The reveal that Kizuna was actually fake and she was just looking for a chance to kill someone. I hate the way LINUJ talks about her as the most hateable character in the game, and he clearly wanted the audience to feel that way, yet went out of his way to give her some genuinely interesting and sympathetic qualities. That whole bit doesn't feel like she's revealing her true colors, but that her personality suddenly shifted for the sake of making her an antagonist. Her death was also needlessly prolonged and cruel.

Even if they didn't act like it in the game, the Voids did have a genuine level of camaraderie and friendship that was lost when Mikado took over and convinced them they had to set up this Killing Game. When Iroha said she wanted to use the bathroom after trial 4, she was really looking for a place to cry, knowing her only friends were all gone.

SDRA2, while I don't hate it, it has some of the weakest writing I've ever seen for a fangan. The game is so focused on self-indulgence and callbacks to DRA that it doesn't communicate its theme in any clear manner. It also has this pervasively cynical, jaded view of its cast where barely any of them grow or change at all. And as I always like to bring up, you can skip Chapter 3 and miss nothing important to the overarching story, Chapter 4 was a mess that derailed the narrative and Chapter 6 is one exposition dump after another. It's a messy story that clearly needed more planning.

Point 19 having been said, I really liked the scene in Chapter 5 where Sora and Yoruko finally have a heart-to-heart about Sora's fears about her identity. It was such a cathartic and emotional moment after so many chapters of garbage and mediocrity, not to mention bitterness and anger on Yoruko's part. I wanted more moments like these, where characters genuinely talk.

I PRESENT TO YOU *DRUMROLL*: SUPER DANGANRONPA TWO: GOODBYE DESPAIR!

The protagonist is Hajime Hinata, he does the classic danganronpa protag move, passes out and wakes up in the building, but PLOT TWIST THEYRE ON A FUCKING ISLAND INSTEAD. THE BUILDIJG IS ON AN ISLAND. Instead of monokuma greeting them, it's Usami [later renamed monomi] [picture below]

He meets the other students, and they get called down to the beach area, and FUCK YOU MONOKUMA. Usami gets her ass beaten by teddybitch and she's now monomi. Rules get explained blah blah. And usami gets SHOT. BY A GUN. MULTIPLE TIMES. and WOOOO USAMI ISNT DEAD!!! but she erased all their memories :(. Various things happen, Togami throws a party and gets killed, shocker. He got stabbed multiple times under a table

The blackended cut out the power and got dead by a trap. It was teruteru, he gets cooked alive. NOT EVEN JOKING WATCH THE EXECUTION ON YOUTUBE ITS FUCKIN VRAZY

And we find out, the organization responsible for the end of the world was World Ender [who fucking named it that]

And nekumaru and kazuichi are fucking CONVINCED nagito is the traitor, but monokuma reveals another motive so they just forget about that [the "motive" is a game. Somehow that works bc ->]. Next day, Mahiru is gone. Kazuichi somehow knows they were going to the beach so she's probably just there right? NO MOTHERFUCKER SHES DEAD AS HELL.

Long story short, fuyuhiko almost did it, but peko killed her for him, yk to save him. And FUCK. PEKO ACCIDENTALLY SLASHED HIS EYE MID-EXECUTION. but he's not dead

And they throw another party, where ibuki performs "I Squeezed Out The Baby, But I Have No Idea Who The Father Is" [good song, it's on spotify listen 2 it]

And akane almost fucking dies, but nekumaru jumps in and almost dies for her, but he's a robot now bc he can't die bc he didn't kill anyone

And alone, ibuki, and nagito get the Despaur Disease, symptoms are different based on everyone. Nagito gets the Liar Disease, Akane has the Coward Disease, ibuki has the Gullible disease.

And WOOOAAH hiyoko and ibuki are fucking DEAD. mikan did it, she had despair disease. Her symptoms were remembering things, oof childhood trauma.

But TRAITOR IS BACK!! WHO IS IT WHO KNOWS

They go to an amusement park [and it's honestly kinda fun, this game puts them through fun things sometimes :)] and SHIT MONOKUMA WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE OIKE THIS. they got sealed in a fun house and can only get out if somebody murders. And there is NO food they ahve to kill to get out to eat

AND BY COD. ROBOT NEKUMARU IS FUCKING DEAD. the blackended used his HAMPTERS to activate nekumarus sleep mode, and tied him up on a wall thing and set a timer so he'd fall down and fucking die

The blackended was gundham tanaka [NO MY BOY /REF] [context for the fic. Btw] and he'd never admit it but it was a self sacrifice for everybody else there. He dies and OHMYCOD THIS SHIT. I AM CRYING. THE HAMSTERS. THE HAMSTERS ARE FINE THEYRE GOOD BUT HOLY SHIT. ITS JUST I AM CRYING. WATCH EXECUTION ON YOUTUBE OR SOEMTHIGN HDHGHWFGHHHH

And MAJOR FUCKING PLOT TWIST. everybody's back? Reality is crumbling, ?? And nagito is talking to someone, and he REPLACED HIS OWN HAND EITH JUNKOS. HE IS FUCKING SICK /NEG

Ultimate despair/despair remanents are explained, a group of people who spread despair everywhere, and its basically a cult. She manipulated them so bad that they alm committed mass suicide on a whim because she told them too.

AND ALTER EGO [AI BUTTERCUP] IS BACK!!! THEY INFORM EEVRYBODY THAT A VIRUS HAS ENTERED THE GAME, BECAUSE THIS IS ALL A SIMULATION!

And MAKOTO [MC] IS BACK, HE TELLS HAJIME THAT HELP IS THERE, SOMEWHERE. THEYRE IN A TRAIL, AND THEY NEED MORE THAN HALF OF THE CAST BACK TO GET OUT. AND A SHIT TON OF STUFF IS REVEALED, THEY ALL LOOK LIKE THEIR 17 YEAR OLD SELVES, BUT EVERYBODY THAT DIED IS PROBBALY DEAD IRL TOO. MAKOTO JUMPS IN AND SAYS THEY NEED TO ALL ACCEPT THEIR SITUATION AND EVERYTHING. THERES A HOPE RESTORATION PROGRAM, THAT CONSISTS OF PAST REMANANTS OF DESPAIR. Ones that could have potential are Kazukoi as previously stated, and Twobuki. Teruonji could work, but Hiyoko doesn't like boys I think....

I know which one Hajime would like but...that's a can of worms....

But if we're going off the rails here and into the realm of multishipping; Sonjime, Kuzuhina and Tsumioda are pretty rad. And that's just staying within our group, and not the Foundation members like Makoto and his friends.

I'm going to vent out my frustrations on how some of the characters were done dirty or became to over the top for the wrong reason. I'll also list how to improve them.

Spoilers Below

Teruteru Hanamura:

Teruteru's sexual behavior was way too over the top. I don't think there's a single time where interacting with him doesn't earn somebody his perverted way of flirting. I would change him up by making him more of a romantic type of flirt for his character development. I'd at least make him get along(smitten) with Akane,Imposter,Hajime,Nekomaru. Since Akane and Imposter clearly enjoys his foodl. Nekomaru would help him try to break out of his horrible habit bothering his peers after they confront him about. Hajime can also explain the fact that he might not ever get his own restaurant because he sexually harasses other people, and Teruteru comes to realization that Hajime is right. Also Teruteru doesn't drug Hajime during his Free Time Event, there was absolutely no point of that at all. Have characters distrust Teruteru saying they fear that he'll drug their food despite his protests say he has standards and doesn't want to waste food like that. Only for Hajime,Akane and Byakuya defend him and Nekomaru volunteers to monitor him while cooking, if it makes everyone else more comfortable to have a Team Manager to watch. And once he's voted off, he'd apologize to harassing the other students and thank Nekomaru,Chiaki,Hajime ans Akane for being nice to him, before he's excuted.

Hifumi Yamada and Celestia Ludenberg

I'd make Hifumi become the Ultimate Manga Author. Ultimate Fanfic Creator is pretty lame title. His backstory involves him making a 2,000 chapter manga within the span of a month(but his original School peers are still disappointed in him for selling it at his school's events), which became a huge hit with the world. I'd have Hifumi's undying loyalty to Celestia from being the result of her bearing a striking resemblance to his favorite manga character(Princess Piggles in a gothic lolita outfit). Celeste is already secretly into manga in canon so this would pair well with her asking for his manga collection in private and keeping it a secret for her because of his loyalty. Celestia is somewhat nicer to Hifumi when no one else is around since Hifumi would mention this to Makoto. But she still becomes aggressive when it involves her tea. She'll even say to Makoto in private that she'd rank Hifumi from an F to a C.

Miu Iruma

I'd have Miu be a lot less of an asshole towards Shuichi,Gonta and Kiibo. When not talking to her during trials she notices the three of them clearly see her as a friend since she has trust issues. I'd also not have her going around and speaking ill of the dead after she saw how upset Shuichi, like she knows where to draw the line. So she doesn't make incredibly rude remarks about Rantaro,Ryoma and Tenko. She however still remains the same when interacting with Kokichi.

Mahiru Koizumi and Hiyoko Saionji

Mahiru is one of the most obnoxious hypocrites ever. She can still remain the same but only for somebody to call her out on her being bias and hypocrite. I understand she's like this because of her father but that still doesn't excuse her. Mahiru telling the boys they need to take charge and protect the girls. Twogami decides to become the leader and protect everyone, only for Mahiru to complain about him being to forceful (she's just as forceful as him). And then there's Hiyoko, she thrashes Teruteru after his death and saying how she wanted to spit on his body and she constantly takes advantage of Kazuichi and Mikan being easy targets for her bullying. Mahiru doesn't say anything or tell her to stop or to behave herself. But within a minute of her insulting the recently deceased Teruteru, she starts smelling really bad and her classmates complain about that. Mahiru complains about the others bullying her. At this moment Akane and Nekomaru immediately call Mahiru out, after clearly getting irritated earlier by Hiyoko's disrespectful comments. Mahiru tries to defend Hiyoko's bullying only for a annoyed Chiaki to tell her that there's no justifiable reason for her to bully others. Mahiru realizes and has her and Hiyoko apologize for their behavior. Mahiru tells Hiyoko to promise her to stop, which Hiyoko has a hard time doing because of her background of her needing to defend herself by being cruel.

Ryoma Hoshi

Ryoma should've been a survivor if anything. If Ryoma would've learned the truth and came to learn that he wouldn't be sent prison after the Killing Game. This would've sparked him motivation to live and to completely end the killing game and the Mastermind altogether. Ryoma made the most sense to be a survivor. I don't know who should've take him place as the victim however.

KAZUICHI, GUNDHAM, AND KIIBO WITH A BLACKENED S/O

KAZUICHI SOUDA

"No, I have an alibi- I was with Kazuichi!" Your words silenced the others who had begun to gang up on you. The trial was for Sonia's murder. With an unidentified fatal wound on the back of her head, she had been discovered at 7am in the restaurant.

He smiled and nodded, hand in a thumbs up. "Yeah! We were together all night - no way they could have done it!"

At the raised eyebrows from the others, he flushed. "I-I didn't mean-"

At your laugh, he just kept his mouth shut. But your alibi was set in stone.

Half an hour later, you wished you had kept your own mouth shut. Hajime had ripped your alibi to shreds, stating that Kazuichi was a known heavy sleeper- you could have snuck out and back in with him none the wiser.

"But- no, I couldn't have done it-!" You stated desperately, fists clenched. "Where on Earth would I have gotten a baseball bat!? Where could I have-"

Hajime's face at that made you fall silent, a terrible chill falling down your back.

"We never figured out what the murder weapon was, (Y/N)."

You glanced around wildly, but you could see your fate was sealed. Kazuichi's face was the worst one. His eyes were filled with tears, and as he looked at you, you found that you couldn't go on anymore.

"You're right, Hajime. I… I killed Sonia. I sent her a letter asking her to come to the restaurant at 3 in the morning, posing as you. I told her… I told her that I'd found a newspaper article about her country, and that I thought she should read it. When she arrived… She never saw my face. I snuck up behind her and… That's it."

You gripped your podium, hands shaking at the sounds of Gundham’s hamsters squeaking- almost overshadowing the faint cries from their master.

The votes came in- all but one for you.

The moment you were released from your podiums, Kazuichi dashed over to you, hands gripping yours.

"(Y/N), you- you- why? How could you do this to me? To all of us?"

He was choking back sobs, pink hair stuck in the tear tracks down his face. You gently reached out and touched them, and he leaned in to your touch.

"I'm so sorry Kazuichi. But they… What I saw… I knew I had to get off the island. I couldn't live without knowing the motive was fake."

Monokuma giggled in his obnoxiously high pitched voice.

"But now you'll never know, because it's PUNISHMENT TIME!"

Choking back your own sobs, you gave Kazuichi one last hug, one last desperate kiss.

"Get off this island. Get off this island for me."

The collar came and snapped around your neck, tearing you apart from him forever.

GUNDHAM TANAKA

"Mahiru was always hanging around you, Beta Bitch! I bet you killed her because you knew you would never be as kind as her, or as sweet as her, or as… as… WAAAAAAAAH!"

Hiyoko let out an ear splitting wail, as you started to try and defend yourself. But before you let out a word, the man across from you spoke up.

"Silence, Sea Urchin! For I was with thy darkness at the time of the crime. We were supplying sustenance to the caged creatures. They could not have hurt the now deceased."

You couldn't help smiling at his wordy, yet correct response. "We were feeding the animals at the farm," you translated. "And he would have seen me leaving, as there's only one exit. The whole place is surrounded by a fence, after all."

Hajime, who seemed to be leading the trial, nodded at that, and the discussion moved on. Once everyone's eyes were off you, you let out a sigh of relief.

There. Your alibi was safe. You were safe. You could- you could go home, and make sure that the video was lying.

Unnoticed by you, a little girl in blonde pigtails was staring at you. And she had a scowl on her face.

Half an hour later, everyone had gone around in circles three times. Nagito was doing his usual obscuration of the investigation. Not that you were complaining.

Wiping the sweat off your brow, you didn't hear what Hiyoko said through your rushing blood.

"So, I know you idiots let Beta Bitch off the hook because she couldn't have left the farm, but are you all ignoring the giant hole in their stupid argument?"

Everyone zeroed in on Hiyoko, who paled a moment before tossing her head.

"There's a literal hole in their argument."

"I agree with that!" Hajime shouted. "There's a little hole in the fence, right next to the hotel."

You had snapped back in at this point, hands shaking.

"But- there's also a- a fence around the hotel! I couldn't get thro-"

"That's wrong!" He shouted again, and you've never hated him more than in this moment. "Yes, there is a fence, but you didn't have to go through- not with the murder weapon you chose. With a relic sword from the library, all you had to do was stab through the fence."

"I found hay on the sword…. I think." Chiaki interjected. "I guess you hid the sword in the animal food until Gundham wasn't looking…. And then you left through the hole in the fence…."

From there, they tore apart your alibi, destroyed any chance you had of leaving the island.

But the look on Gundham’s face dried up any arguments you had. Every time you opened your mouth, his Deva's chitted at you, quiet and yet louder than Hajime's closing argument.

The votes came in- every single person had voted for you, except a lone two against Hajime. Hajime didn't even have the decency to appear offended by the votes, his expression pained as he stared at you.

"It was the motive video." You confessed, and you shut your eyes to keep out the sight of them all staring. "I had- I had to go home. I had to make sure it was fake. I knew it couldn't be real, because- because-"

Gundham took your hand gently and you broke down into his arms. Clutching at him like a lifeline, you sobbed out the rest of your story.

"I'm so, so sorry, Gundham. I never should have used you. The video isn't an excuse." You let out a watery chuckle. "None of you fell for it, did you?"

Pulling your motive video out, you tucked it into Gundham's jacket. "Check for me, will you? Make sure… make sure it's not true."

"Sweetne-" he started, but Monokuma interrupted with a feral grin.

"Real or fake, now you'll never know, because it's PUNISHMENT TIME!"

Monokuma tore you from Gundham, your watery smile the last he ever saw of you.

KIIBO

"Sorry, Shuichi, but I couldn't have done it." You shrugged at his accusation, internally sweating enough to fill a pool.

"I was with Kiibo at the time; I couldn't have left the kitchen without him seeing me."

"And I didn't see them leave the kitchen, let alone the dining room." Kiibo stated this almost proudly, and you had to fight off a wave of affection for the man. You couldn't doubt yourself- not now. Not when you had already done what you did. There was no going back.

"I couldn't have killed Kokichi."

At your words, everyone glanced at the portrait of the boy. None of them had liked him, sure, and he had screwed with them through the trials… but some of the things he said held the hidden piece necessary to understand the plot.

You shifted in your podium- his photographed eyes almost seemed to be following you. Kiibo caught your hand and squeezed it, offering a smile to you. Giving a tremulous smile in turn, you tried to calm your heart rate.

An hour later, you were shaking all over.

"You said your alibi was Kiibo, but Miu said THIS-" and he held up an electronic device- "was missing from her lab. It went missing this morning, and was found in the back of the kitchen cupboard. And the kitchen clock was a few minutes off. My theory? You set off a pulse to turn Kiibo off, which accidentally turned off the clock as well. You left the dining room, entered the warehouse, and strangled Kokichi."

You gulped loudly, the sound echoing in your head. Glancing around wildly, you were met with people convinced of your guilt. Turning to your right, you saw Kiibo- and you knew in that moment that if he were able to cry, he would be sobbing.

The look on his face made you give up.

"(Y/N).... It's not…. It's not true, is it?"

You looked down at your podium, your lack of an answer an answer nonetheless.

The votes came in, every single vote going your way. Even Kiibo, huh? Not like you didn't deserve it.

Drawing in a shaky breath, you spoke.

"I…. I just had to get out of here. I was going crazy. All the- all the death, the executions- I knew I was going to be next! So I…. I went to the warehouse. I was psyching myself out, by that point. But then…. Then Kokichi-

"He kept taunting me. Saying that- that he knew someone was planning to kill me, and that I was so weak and pathetic that they'd succeed and I-!

"I strangled him. I came back to myself with the rope wrapped around his neck, and he wasn't responding! I came back to the kitchen and…. And I hid the electronic in the back of the drawer. And that's it. That's how I killed Kokichi Oma."

You risked a glance over at Kiibo, and your heart sank. He was merely staring at you, no emotion on his face.

"For what it's worth… I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Kiibo. I shouldn't have used you for my alibi."

Drawing in a breath, you choked on it when he pulled you into a hug. Pulling back, he touched his forehead to yours, your hands clutched in his.

"My inner voice is wrong. I…. I'll escape. I'll escape for you, (Y/N). I promise. I swear to you."

You let out a half sob, but you couldn't stop a final smile at how pure hearted he was.

"Don't… don't make the same mistake I did. Defeat whoever trapped us in here. Escape… escape without destroying yourself in the process, my dearest Kiibo."

"Oh, how heartwarming." Monokuma crooned in his high pitched voice. "You'll be warm enough in a whole lot of other places soon, because it's PUNISHMENT TIME!"

The collar snapped around your neck and tore you from his hands. He reached out to you desperately, but it was too late.

Loading everyone onto the contraption, (Y/n) was last to enter the elevator, sliding up beside Hajime and glancing around at her peers.

One of them was a murderer.

One of them would die.

Well, assuming they had all their evidence.

Clenching her eyes shut, (Y/n) ignored the doubts swelling deep within her gut, trying to ignore the creeping sense of dread looming inside the metal box going down.

Down…

Down.

Entering the trial room, (Y/n) wanted to toss up what little she’d eaten that day at how extravagant the whole decor was.

Byakuya might’ve liked it.

Shaking her head, (Y/n) huffed, stumbling over to a podium in the circle as the others did. Hands shaking as she gripped the wood in front of her for purchase, Monokuma began explaining the process of the trial - only serving to bunch the knots inside (Y/n)’s stomach tighter.

She finally forced herself to stand straight and look around, eyes going from her left - Nekomaru Nidai - to her right - Sonia Nevermind - back to her left. Byakuya Togami.

“Didn’t that Byakuya bastard get killed in the dining hall, huh? Then everyone there is a fuckin’ suspect,” Fuyuhiko grinned as if he’d just earned some leg up against everyone else at the trial.

(Y/n) looked over to Nagito once again, then to his hands, and back at his face.

“...there’s something I have to do.”

“BE CAREFUL! The first kill will happen tonight. Someone will definitely kill someone.”

Night-vision goggles.

Green paint.

Knife.

“Helloooo, Ultimate Bimbo, you in there?!” Hiyoko shouted at (Y/n).

“H-huh?”

“We’re asking you a fuckin’ question!” Fuyuhiko followed up, “Shove your head up your ass when we won’t die because of it!”

Nagito gave the girl a sympathetic beam, “Go easy on her, there was just a murder after all. Besides, she was closer to Byakuya than any of us were.”

Hajime quirked a brow, “We’re asking about the cases Byakuya brought in. Do you know what was in them?”

“Oh, yes, sorry,” (Y/n) shook her head, rubbing at her arm awkwardly under the stare of her classmates, “The night-vision goggles is what you mean, correct? Yes, they were in his case. He’d brought them in the event of, well, a blackout.”

“And the knife wasn’t in there, right?”

“Right,” she nodded sternly, “he’d definitely had to have found it under that table.”

“But why?” Mahiru burst out, hands on her hips.

“Well,” (Y/n) crossed her arms, brows drawing tight towards her face in slight hesitance, “Byakuya knew something would happen tonight.”

“(Y/n),” Hajime interrupted, unrolling a piece of paper from his pocket, “you’re talking about this murder threat, right?”

“Exactly,” she agreed, “he’d shown me the threat yesterday while we were planning the party.”

“By gathering everyone in one place, he tried to create a situation where everyone could keep tabs on each other,” Nagito tapped his temple, “In doing so, he tried to put the writer of the letter in a situation where they couldn’t act.”

“He couldn’t risk ignoring it, and he knew that everyone might panic if he said anything,” (Y/n) followed up, “We weren’t sure who wrote it, even now… I’m not totally certain…”

But she had a guess.

But a guess was never quite good enough.

“I have (Y/n)!” Hajime called, pointing to the girl, “During the blackout, we were together.”

“Yeah, he grabbed onto me during the blackout, so I can say without a doubt Hajime has an alibi.”

“Hmm,” Teruteru rubbed at his chin, “Grabbed onto you, you say? Grabbed what?”

(Y/n)’s brows furrowed, “My arm, and can you please keep your mind out of the gutter, a man has died.”

Once again, her gaze floated to the black-and-white photo of Byakuya. His stern, commanding face crossed out with what (Y/n) could only hope was paint suspiciously colored in the fashion of blood. Her fingers intertwined before scrambling apart, only to knot together once again. She felt her lungs shrink and burn at the sight of his picture.

He called out for her. He needed her. Right before he died, he called for her.

She doesn’t know what she possibly would’ve done to help, but she’s sure she could have. She’s sure she could’ve stopped his murder. She’s sure his blood is on her hands.

“Isn’t that right… Teruteru Hanamura?!”

She wasn’t even paying attention to the trial. (Y/n) looked over as Teruteru screamed and wailed in defiance, none of the others on his side.

A voting panel lit up the wood at (Y/n)’s podium, all her classmates’ faces illuminated with the exception of Byakuya Togami - in his stead was a dim, black-and-white likeness. If it wasn’t for Hajime, (Y/n) wouldn’t even know who to vote for.

With heavy heart and shaking fingers, (Y/n) voted for the Ultimate Chef as the murderer of the Ultimate Affluent Progeny.

Once all the votes were tallied, Monokuma giggled to himself before dragging out a large gavel from seemingly nowhere and banging down on a red button, “I have prepared a very special punishment for the Ultimate Cook, Teruteru Hanamura! It’s Punishment Time!”

Rivulets of sweat and tears rolled down Teruteru’s cheeks, his teeth gritting and grinding with absolute dread, mortification bubbling just below the skin. This is it.

His death.

His repentance.

A claw on thick chain shot out and directly latched around the criminal’s neck before dragging him violently across the floor and through heavy, metal-barred gates. They slammed shut as soon as Teruteru was pulled through.

Deep-Fried Teruteru

Battered.

Breaded.

Boiled.

(Y/n) watched, horrified, alongside her classmates on the large projection screen as Teruteru Hanamura was punished for his irredeemable crime. As he was cooked alive.

As Monokuma dismissed the teenagers, they slowly moved out of the courtroom and towards the cottages. (Y/n) looked onwards at Hajime and Nagito, brows furrowed.

"Let's cut to the chase... You're correct! It was my doing all along!"

“I was only trying to stop Nagito from murdering one of you!”

“I saw him. I saw Nagito, in the middle of cleaning duty, putting the knife under the table!”

“Byakuya was probably trying to… protect Nagito.”

“So Byakuya gave his life to protect Nagito? Even though he was trying to take the knife?”

It’s all his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault. It’s his fault.

Byakuya Togami is dead because of Nagito. Teruteru Hanamura is dead because of Nagito.

Byakuya.

Byakuya was dead. And there was nothing (Y/n) could do.

Quietly, (Y/n) approached the boy freshly living on her mind. She tapped his shoulder, pressing her lips into a tight up curl despite his clear shock. Hajime’s eyes widened at the display before shaking his head and walking away.

Ignoring the brunette’s exit, (Y/n) spoke to the boy before her, “Hey, Nagito,” she forced her smile to be livelier, “wanna… walk back to our cottages together?”

“Don’t worry, as long as I’m the leader, I won’t let anyone become a victim.”

Then she wouldn’t either. Even if it meant giving her life… just like Byakuya.

☆ Sawamura Daichi ☆

Helps lost people find their way and regularly gives directions

We're talking off-duty, here Daichi puts the 'hot' in 'Hot Fuzz' 🥵

Hahaha, fuck 🙃

He's very approachable and warm, and gives excellent directions

He'll also walk them there if they don't understand or don't feel confident, even if it disrupts his day 🥺

And he's really good at helping lost kids and calming them down he feels so proud when he gets them back to their parents, safe and sound 🤗

☆ Kuroo Testurou ☆

Helps elderly people with their shopping bags and getting across roads

It goes against his nature to stand by and let an old person struggle, and even if they're not struggling, he always offers his services anyway

He has a soft spot for old people, 'kay? 🥺

He makes a point of getting the traffic to stop so it's safe, and letting them hold his arm as they slowly make their way across the street

They often tell him that he's 'a very sweet and handsome young man,' and 'nothing like the other young people you meet these days' and he blushes

☆ Ushijima Wakatoshi ☆

Gets things from the top shelves for people that they can't reach at the supermarket

It's a pretty normal thing to do, right? So he's chill about it

Except he will 100% walk down the entire length of the isle just to help if he sees you stuggling it's super cute 😩😍

But he won't smile or make idle conversation, or anything. He'll just nod courteously

It can be a little ominous, with his looming height and serious face, but most people take the gesture well 😊

☆ Iwaizumi Hajime ☆

Pays for the shopping of the person in front of him when their card gets declined or they don't have the right cash

He manages to offer in a way that isn't offensive or patronising he's honestly a life saver 🥺

He's very humble and casual about it

It's what he hopes someone would do for him, if he were in that awkward situation

And you never know what struggles people are facing, so his philosophy is to always be kind what goes around, comes around, my dudes 😌✌

☆ Sugawara Koushi ☆

Leaves snacks and a cute thank you note on the porch for the mailman

Or mailwoman! Or mailperson!

He hopes that the little gesture will brighten their tough day of work so precious, I can't 🥺��

There's usually a good selection, too no skimping here, no sirree 😌

If he's home, he'll give them a cheery wave through the window as well

Especially in this COVID-19 environment. Suga would really appreciate the services they're providing

☆ Bokuto Koutarou ☆

Spends time every week playing with the cats and dogs at the local shelters

This man is hoenstly a blessing, I physically can't 🤧

He loves seeing their little faces light up when he walks in, scruffling their ears and playing fetch, etc. and just generally showing them that they're still loved 🥺😭

And he helps take the dogs for walks too, so they get their exercise, and brushes them down, and rubs their tummies–

He wants to adopt, but he's not settled enough, so he knows he can't 😭 but it's his goal

☆ Azumane Asahi ☆

Always holds doors open for other people

We're not just talking the occasional, feebly held door

Asahi will ALWAYS hold a door open for anyone else

Men, women, children, old people, people with prams, whole families– literally everyone

He is TALL and STRONG, and he will be USEFUL

He will hold it open even if you're really far away, like the giant dork that he is 😂😂 you cannot escape

☆ Oikawa Tooru ☆

Often pays for the next customer's coffee in advance

Sure, it makes him feel good about himself. But, I mean, why not? What's so wrong with that?

Oikawa calls it SAOK-ing people (pronounced 'soaking') meaning: Secret Acts of Kindness Iwa-chan has told him to change the name, but he won't 🙄

Oikawa would love the touching joy of a stranger paying for his coffee in advance, so he gets a warm, tingly feeling when he thinks about it happening to someone else because if him he's literally beaming for the rest of the day 🥰

☆ Akaashi Keiji ☆

Buys food and drinks for homeless people when he passes them

He sometimes stops to have a chat with them, too 😔🤧

He's the least condescending person you could meet if you're in trouble he's so genuine, I can't

Except for maybe Iwa-chan and Daichi. They're also very down-to-earth

He'll also give them all his food vouchers that he's been collecting in his wallet to help spread their costs

Akaashi finds it hard to watch other people struggling and suffering, and so always makes the time for it when he can afford to

☆ Nishinoya Yuu ☆

Helps make up the numbers for the kids playing games in the park

Be it soccer, dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, tag, or something else entirely, Noya loves to see the kids running around in the park, playing games and enjoying themselves

So he's only too happy to join in when they need more players he'll sometimes recruit Tanaka to help as well

Yuu fits right in with them, both in height and mentality 😂😭😂😭

He may or may not get them to call him 'senpai' 🙄😂

☆ Tanaka Ryuunosuke ☆

Helps fix people's cars on the road

Tanaka's one of those people that knows how to change a flat, and so can't drive past someone having car trouble without stopping and helping

He's also a pretty good handy-man in general, and is always willing to help out his friends and neighbours with their jobs that need doing

Like plumbing problems, putting up shelves, building furniture, etc. He's good with his hands!

Kiyoko: 👁👄👁

And he'll never charge a penny! He's all too happy to do it out of friendship and the kindness of his heart 😇

☆ Kozume Kenma ☆

Hosts gaming charity livestreams for various causes on a regualr basis

All the donations go directly to the charity of choice for the stream, not through him, so everyone knows it's legit 😇

He also donates gaming consoles etc. to charities and organisations that help kids who are in hospital

He's a huge advocate for charities and organisations that focus on helping people through gaming, like AbleGamers and St Jude PLAY LIVE, and regularly donates to them

Honestly, Kenma is an angel 🥺 👉👈

☆ Miya Atsumu ☆

Gives up his seat on public transport for old/pregnant/disabled etc. people

Look, Tsumu can be a little selfish and grouchy at times, but he's not a complete asshole 👉👈

There's a line, and hogging seats on public transport when someone else clearly needs it more than him is, indeed, the line 😌

He'll do it without a second thought or a fuss, and with a smile on his face but will be low-key proud of himself, ngl

He will also get offended if someone else doesn't give up their seat when they should, and may confront them about it 😳 like, what makes you so special that you can't do that simple courtesy that even he does??

☆ Miya Osamu ☆

Donates food to charities and shelters

Both store-bought food and from his own shop

Literally gets so depressed at the thought of people not getting to eat 🥺

This man LOVES FOOD. And people are out there not able to?!

He also has a scheme set up where homeless and stuggling people can come into his shop for some free onigiri

This man 🥺🤧 can I please marry him already?!

☆ Sakusa Kiyoomi ☆

Donates sanitary supplies like soap, toothpaste, antibacterial gel, pads, tampons, etc. to shelters on a regualr basis

Literally cannot abide the idea that people are forced to live without these basic necessities, simply because they can't afford them

It's almost for his own peace of mind rather than theirs? 😅😂 almost. He does actually care on their behalf, too

But he doesn't like to make a big deal out of it, and so donates anonymously

His donations are literally a godsend to those people, though 🥺😭

☆ Hinata Shouyou ☆

Reads books to kids at the library when he's there with Natsu

And he's really good at it! He reads very animatedly, and really gets the kids engaged with the stories you can just imagine it

The kids all love him and bring him their favourite books to read!

And the parents all watch and compliment him on how good he is with kids

And this goofball just blushes and grins like a doof 😚 so freaking sweet

☆ Kageyama Tobio ☆

Always carries a spare umbrella with him to give to someone

He hates getting caught in the rain himself, so he keeps a spare just in case this precious baby 🥺

He's had to use it quite a few times, sometimes giving it to people he doesn't even know, so he ends up not getting it back and has to buy a new spare

But it makes him smile, if a bit awkwardly, to know that he's helped someone out, even just a little Tobio!! 😭🤧🥺

☆ Tsukishima Kei ☆

Steps into the road to allow room for people with pushchairs and prams

I know it might not seem like much, but this is Tsukki, guys 🙄

*Narrator voice* this is one small step for man, one giant leap for Tsukishima!

And this just goes to show that he's not as tough of a cookie as he looks

He doesn't like the idea of parents etc. and young children having to walk in the road he gets worried for them...🤭

And he does it consciously, which is important

☆ Yamaguchi Tadashi ☆

Spends time each week looking for the animals on the 'lost' and 'missing' posters around town

He hates to think of them out there, cold, alone, frightened–

It makes him feel nauseous just thinking about it 😣

My poor, precious baby!! He's too pure for this world!! 😭

It's not often, but sometimes he actually manages to find one and bring it back to its owner safely, which is a huge boost for his mood and confidence

He feels so valued and appreciated, and just happy that the little guy is SAFE 😇🤧

☆ Haiba Lev ☆

Helps strangers get their cats out of trees and other high places

What else is a tall, handsome, goofball-of-a stranger to do? 😌

Legit, he doesn't think twice. Tall people should use their height to help people, shouldn't they?

Sure, it doesn't always go to plan, and his arms sometimes end up looking like well-used scratching poles, but he's just glad to help 😇

It's good to see the cats safe and with their owners
