Linemen and Public Service
Even the most seasoned linemen can sometimes be surprised by the havoc nature can cause.
That was what Duke linemen contended with in their efforts to restore power to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
Trees felled, electrical poles strewn about, many in mountainous territory, were just some of the things they had to deal with.
Some 227 linemen were tasked to do the job, the volunteers coming from as far as Florida, the Carolinas, and the Midwest. Trucks and equipment were brought by barge, and the efforts went all-out to bring energy back to the U.S. territory after four months without power.
Their successful efforts were met with cheering, joy, and yes, even tears.
It’s almost frightening to think how completely dependent on electricity we now are. But it’s good to know that there are hundreds of professional volunteers willing to step in and restore power to these communities, one of such companies is a local electric repair company in Atlanta, go to their website for more information on how professional electricians can volunteer their time.
