Lily and a couple of my friend Rensu’s girls got together for a Lunar New Year shoot a few weeks ago.

I finally bought an MDD! She is standard model Liliru. I haven’t named her yet, but I’m thinking of calling her Lily. Outfit is borrowed from my friend rensuchandoll on Instagram/Twitter. She is so precious, I can’t wait to take more photos of her and dress her up in cute outfits!

dying my MDD

so for the longest time I debated on whether to do this or not bc there’s sooo many horror stories and much trepidation seen abt it. But eventually I had to just take the dive and be the change I wanted to see in the world lol. Anyways, here’s what’s up

got her in the mail straight from volks usa, mdd liliru

I unpacked her and then took measurements for clothes etc. I figured it’d be better to do any face mods now so I took to making the mouth mods. Pretty standard stuff there.

Kinda rough but I got to refining it later. For the life of me I could NOT find a tuto for the mouthpieces so that was trial and error. luckily that meant only two trials lol. Then the fun part: dying! I used Rit liquid dyemore in chocolate brown. Based on research that brand and type seemed to work more. Also easier and more predictable than custom mixing powders and stuff (why y’all do that?). I honestly had more luck on forums for vintage dolls and reborn baby dolls lol. I followed the directions on the bottle and while it was heating I disassembled her

each part spent a good bit in the hot dye bath to get the colour I wanted. Contrary to the dyeing stories I’ve come across the plastic frame inside DID take to the dye, and pretty well at that. Here are all the parts hung up and drying

lighting is kinda iffy here making it seem like drastically different shades but they were pretty even. I think I did pop a few back in for a bit more though. I put her back together the next day

Her torso did fade a bit but her clothes mostly cover those imperfections (as well as some of the few unfortunate spots on her upper thigh and right arm) so I didn’t bother XD here’s her outfit WIP in natural light!

Overall I’ll DEFINITELY be doing this again for my next mdd! I’m in love with her skin tone and how stunning it is! More to come once I finish her faceup haha

Oh no, that was Lily when I got her over a decade ago.

Liliru is a Volks MDD full doll, which I was considering but am not buying.

I actually do have enough sitting in my checking to get Liliru, but it would be a lot more than I got from Marine, and pretty much my whole checking account……

And to be honest, I’m more excited about getting a used body and head.

I don’t have the words for it, but I think it’s something like that post about loving antiques because they’ve been somewhere and made a journey to somehow end up in that specific person’s hands.

And maybe that’s what it is with me and used dolls??

Though I do also prefer damaged dolls, but that’s easier to explain. They can only get better in my hands, I can’t make them worse. And better is easy when they start out like
