More doodles, and this time, it's actually voice redesigns!

I've been quite unhappy with my Stubborn for a while, and last week, I finally (after some serious encouragement /pos) gave his redesign a try! I still gotta make more drawings with him to actually test if his design works, but I'm at least happy with this drawing of him <3

Then we have Contrarian and Cheated with some slight updates! I've been giving all my voices accessories, so I had to figure out something for these two lads. Contra got a full vest (makes sense that of all of them, he's the one that gets a full clothing item, and also it hides his cracks, which he would definitely appreciate), and Cheated got spiky bracelet and rings (punk-ish aesthetic Cheated won't leave my head, and it bled into his bird design). Also Cheated's face got a bit spikier, I actually drew him like that for the Valentine's post, too! I just think it works for him to be extra spiky :]

And lastly is a small doodle of Paranoid, who I just tried to make fluffier. I need to sit down and do an actual re-design session for him; I don't want to change him too much, but I also know there's a few things about his design that need tweaking... but that's for future Everest to figure out :]

Some designs for the Voices! Since the Long Quiet is a bird man, here's a bunch of bird men

Yippeeeee here's the first batch of voice designs! Notes and explanations under the cut

Hero: The main guy himself! As LQ's constant inner conscience, I wanted him to look basically identical to him. The only significant difference is the silly little hair (feather?) swirl on his head, because @/ justcherryqwq's animatics were the first voice designs I ever saw and Hero just looks wrong to me without it now.

Smitten: Hearts hearts hearts hearts hearts- A bit on the nose maybe but he would most likely approve. I tried to make his body shape reminiscent of disney princes. Definitely the biggest voice. Very fluffy and soft to best keep his Princess warm :3

Hunted: One of the littlest guys to convey how small he feels compared to his Princesses (Beast and Den). Scrangly fellow covered in scratches and bite marks. His plumicorns are made to look more like animal ears and his cheek fluff like whiskers. He has the same glowy eyes as Beast does. Little teeths.

Paranoid: My beloved lanky guy. I adore this silly so much, he was one of the first voices I ever met. His plumicorns, wings and feathers in general are all quite sparse and messy from how much he stress-plucks. I wanted his frame to look like a toddler could kick him over. He needs sleep. I'm definitely not the first person to design him with multiple eyes (both as a reference to his route and as a way for him to keep watch better) but I'm not sure who originally came up with it.

And some more headcanons I have for them!

-When Hero gets nervous or morally-conflicted about what they're doing, he covers his face with his wings. In PatD it seemed to be LQ's default way of standing but I think it really suited Hero's reluctance with the situation.

-Whenever you betray the Princess in his routes, Smitten's eyes become literally heartbroken and he gets mascara tracks similar to the Princess in HEA just to make it extra dramatic. I wanted to design a heart shaped chest scar for when he rips open your chest in the Damsel route, but it's not like he's ever with us again after that.

-I fucking love the Den route where Hunted goes feral. Yeesss my silly go feel powerful for once! Obviously an increased amount of scars, cat slit eyes and big ol' teeth.

-Paranoid's pupils can change heavily based on what's happening. I like to imagine that when he's doing the whole "Heart, lungs, liver, nerves-" thing, that his eyes are closed in concentration, and the moments he's interrupted they're startled opened with frantic heartlines. He has less eyes opened when he's calmer, and more eyes opened when he's panicking the fuck out. Very rarely does he have the usual two eyes only.

Anyways I *have* been browsing other people's voice designs for weeks now, so if there's any design elements that look similar to anyone else's, I probably subconciously yoinked it from them. Please feel free to let me know if I copied something so heavily that it deserves a credit, because I really cannot understate just how many voice designs I've been going through and have lost track of.

99 percent of Smitten designs I've seen have given them a big poofy chest and at this point I'm considering giving my Smitten a mental redesign

SLAY THE PRINCESS Voice + Narrator Designs

sorry they arent all 'complete' sort of. I was struggling and it was starting to feel like i would never finish at all and that the slay the princess interest may slip from my grasp altogether and i wanted to finish these before doing other slay the princess drawings and !! anyways yeah these are mostly to get an Idea of how the guys look, there may be potential changes in future but for the most part these are the guys !! design notes under the read more teehee.

SLAY THE PRINCESS DESIGN NOTES:

ok first of all. maybe sometimes i will feel like drawing wings instead of hands, okay? teehee. all in good fun. these are all how its Supposed to be, generally, but i can bend the rules or edit them as i wish lol !! pupils are also a if-i-feel-like-it thing !!

The Cold

- light blues, icy, cold colours.

- thin, bony, pointy. his 'ears' / tufts stand up straight. sharper beak. etc. mid-length feathers on arms, short on legs.

- thin, long tail with a few feathers at the end

The Contrarian

- warm colours for the most part, potentially some blues or something for contrast. all rather saturated

- puffy feathers.

- simple no-sleeved vest that fits well.

- thin tail with rough, messy feathers that ends with two arrow-shaped ends

The Smitten

- more pinkish, purplish, red sort of colours. potentially rather vibrant and saturated also?

- lots of roundness in his design, including a more curved beak and relatively heart shaped ears. short puffy tail.

- feathers dont reach far on arms or legs

- little dots under eyes

- fluffy chest.

- more solid body

- two toes

The Opportunist

- blues and purples, perhaps a little orange

- looser shirt, long + big sleeves. deck of cards. plays with the cheated. Often cheats.

The Hunted

- greens, perhaps, greens and browns more neutral, natural colours for camouflage

- big ears. to listen

- stronger legs, ready to run and dodge,

The Paranoid

- orange, yellow.

- overpreens and stuff. lots of bent or broken feathers, occasionally some rather patchy spots. feathers dont have a clean end along his limbs. the others have some bent or broken feathers too of course but he's got it the worst

The Cheated

- weird feathers at his neck. fun <3

- deck of cards

- also has a like. mark/scar at the neck

- edit teehee: so neck feathers can be like. jagged. same for the ends of the feathers on his arms. jagged and all kinda like the whole razor princess route, you know?

The Skeptic

- orange, cautious

- long tail with feathers at the end that resemble a question mark

- maybe a choker or something?

The Stubborn

- more desaturated in tone. red.

- shorter tail

- lots of scars

The Hero

- Bandanna sort of thing around the neck

The Broken

- dark blues

- marks beneath the eyes

The Long Quiet / Player / Body

- during the loops its more simple. two sets of wings, one at the shoulder blades, one by the hips. rather small, unable to be used for flying. all the voices take after them in looks.

- is something... more though, in his natural state. similar to how the Shifting Mound is different than the ordinary princess you see. bigger wings, a more monstrous form.

- entirely greyscale

The Narrator

- toothed beak, sharp teeth.

- has a mane. whether thats made of feathers or fur or hair or what? who knows. All that matters is that its soft.

- regular bird tail, regular bird feet.

- paws. sorta similar to a lions?

- might mess with his colours a bit tbh but generally it sticks to dark grey or blueish

also have some drawings of working on the narrators design

Revisiting my Moonpaw doodles from last year after reading The Elders' Quest!

-Voices-

A collection of portraits depicting the voices from Slay the Princess, taking inspiration from the style of the video game Disco Elysium! The Voice of the Hero, a knight, an iconic silhouette against a luminant halo. A color palette of black, blue, and teal.

The Voice of the Hunted, a beast trying to protect its heart from danger, represented here as a crosshair.

The Voice of the Smitten, the knife wound letting loose lovely streams of swirling bodily juices into the air.

The Voice of the Cold, dark, and angular. Something completely unafraid to kill.

The Voice of the Skeptic, attempting to fly, tearing himself away from chains and what looks like his own body.

The Voice of the Paranoid, Frantic and multi-eyed, clutching at a wound.

The Voice of the Contrarian, flying in stark contrast to the others, glowing instead of secluded, a mischievous fairy or will o' the wisp, instead of a grotesque figure.

The Voice of the Broken, shattered and leaking. A humanoid figure is no longer recognizable.

The Voice of the Stubborn, Fiery eyes, and big meaty claws. The brushwork is chaotic.

The Voice of the Cheated, smoke leaking from puncture wounds still embedded within him. He's holding a cigar, too; probably where all the smoke is coming from.

The Voice of the Opportunist, carrying multiple masks on his person, and wielding a poorly concealed knife.

And finally (for now) The Long Quiet itself, the night sky, swirling sigils blurred in the dark.

I like this a lot actually. It was so fun to make.. the way Prisoner is looking at him... The way he has his wing around her... And the chains.. so romantic.......... *Sob*

Yeah I didn't draw glasses for my Skeptic cause I thought it looked a little awkward.
