I’m glad the interview made some of the people who were feeling raw about the ending feel a bit better. I enjoyed it myself, but felt bad for the people who were hurt. That said, the people who are using the information/confirmation to mock or belittle those who did enjoy it need to stop. Most people are being good about it, but there’s always a few assholes hey. I don’t know what possesses a person to see someone enjoying something and think “heh I wanna try to ruin that for them.”

It’s very few and far then between because I haven’t seen it at all. Most people are being chill and quietly finding closure with this interview (or privately salting on their accounts but otherwise not bothering anyone)

But yeah just ignore/block those few assholes and continue to enjoy the epilogue!

This is probably the most thorough look into the history of this world that we are going to get. It doesn’t take much to deduce that the Ljós Empire is the Romans, and the evolution of the Sun Temple has parallels to a more explicitly magical and inherently corrupt version of the medieval Catholic Church, complete with reformation, just leading to a total rejection of the faith rather than the adoption of a reformed or altered version (very minimally so, in the case of the Anglican Church).

But also:

Expensive Vlaski wine stolen and when the thieves drink it, they develop light-eating abilities. A crown prince who has suddenly developed sympathies with Vlask. And an opera singer, his mistress, with a vested interest in ensuring that happens.

I believe this is starting to come together, if only the game would give me a chance to analyse the damn wine.

Vlassk is a very guarded person and usually doesn't openly show his (true) emotions.

Once he starts getting comfortable with someone and feels safe, he opens up and wildly emotes with his tentacles and each and every emotion is clearly visible and readable on his face.

He may come off as childish sometime due to him never truly having time to properly grow up or being a child (or rather young, naive illithid).

6. Favorite death (monster, player character, NPC, etc).

Honestly my favorite death in one of my games was the time one of my hometown players decided to poison my brother’s character with a dart stuck inside a pair of magic gloves he really wanted. I asked more than once “okay so you just... put them on? You don’t look them over?” and he was like “Yeah, I put them on.” He failed his CON save and died.

But the REALLY best thing about that death was that he was an oil-based Gillman from Pathfinder, meaning his corpse was highly flammable. The rest of the party used his body as fuel for a bomb later that session in order to kill some NPCs coming after them. It was pure chaos.

12. Your in game inside jokes/memes/catchphrases and where they came from.

oh god, which game? there’s so many of them! okay quick rundown of some of my favorites:

WTNV game: “Hello, we’re scientists.” -standard opening dialogue whenever interacting with an NPC, even one the party has already met. (special mention goes to “better a _ than a cannibal!” because of the time a character was overcome with the desire to eat six-inch-high humanoid beings and totally ate one)

“Can I roll for unicorns/fairies?” - pretty every Renegades game I ever ran had someone ask this question, because the first one-shot I ever ran had the Natural 1 Perception check response of “You see pretty lights - they must be fairies!” and in one of my other games I for some ridiculous reason decided to allow a d100 roll for the players’ horse to spontaneously turn into a unicorn and somebody succeeded.

“Roll for dick size” - from the time I literally said, out loud, “No, we are NOT rolling for dick size!” while players were arguing about whose character was the most masculine, and one the players promptly rolled a d20 and got a natural one.

There’s like. Hundreds more and if you gave me a little bit of time I could probably name a few more, but I think that’s enough.

14. Introduce any other parties you have played in or DM-ed.

Meet the Robots and Secrets campaign: Frankie, a nonbinary lizardperson with parental connections to the Brony Mob and a robotic tail, Vlask, an alien wolfperson-human hybrid in disguise as a human and playing medical doctor, Scarlet, secret robot pretending to be human and working with the Robot Resistance, Kwrha, alien wolfperson senator who is actually a robotic body double pretending to be said alien wolfperson senator, and Leena, teaboo Superwholock fangirl who named her guns “tea” and “crumpets”, secretly a member of the Brony Mafia and evil all along.

I could introduce like, literally tons more but I don’t think anybody can really beat the Robots and Secrets gang for fantastic one-liner descriptions.

22. What color was your first dragon?

Black! It was the final boss in the Pathfinder Beginner’s Box adventure that comes at the front of the GM’s Guide!

25. What have your players done that you never could have planned for?

Uhhhh.... practically everything they’ve ever done? I mentioned in one of my previous asks that my brother once ate a splinter of wood from a chest they smashed... Befriending Station Management, adopting Carrot the Brony.... I mean that’s the whole point of ttrpgs, for me, is that you never know WHAT your players will do!

33. How do you write your backstory, or do you even write a backstory?

I genuinely used to not write backstories, whether as a player or a GM. I’d figure out what the character’s or baddie’s current situation was, and then kinda make up the why and the wherefore on the spot later on down the line. Legitimately I did not start thinking about character or villain backstory very hard until I started watching Critical Role and realized how incredibly cool it could be.

Now I write characters backstory first, and then come up with race/class/etc. For Ulundo I literally sat down and thought to myself, “I want to play the kind of character I really like, what sort of types of character do I enjoy, what kind of story leads to the kind of character I enjoy?” and I said to myself “You know, I’ve never really written or played a bad guy trying to redeem himself and still feeling guilty, but I love that kind of character” so I started writing out what he did and why he chose to not be evil anymore and that eventually led to realizing that, to fit in the setting, he had to be an elf paladin (he could have been a fighter, too, but paladin already works so much better the more I play him, and we already had a fighter)
