vivo-morior-iterum-vivo replied to your post “So I've been rewatching Ten's run of Dr Who because of reasons”
I'm with you on the Rose thing. I feel like Rose was a good companion to 9, because she got 9 to 10, but I'm probably a bit biased because my favorite Doctor is 9 and I loved watching the 9, Rose and Jack team.
Hey cool af having Nine as your fav, haven’t come across many DW fans who do :)
I’m gonna confess... even with Nine I never really warmed to Rose. But she had a really tough job when it came to winning over my dumbass past self who was... maybe a little bit elitist when it came to New Who, because I’d been pretty hardcore about the Classic series and was young and stupid.
I ALSO enjoyed the Rose, Jack and Doctor team dynamic however! It felt like the show was getting into more of a swing for me at that point (plus ofc ‘are you my mummy’ etc was brilliant! Moffat might have made mistakes later on, but he wrote some CRACKING stand alones), so I guess I was on the verge of embracing her about then. Figures that would be when everything changed :p I even really, REALLY enjoyed the Bad Wolf heart of the TARDIS possession AND THE DRAMATIC KISS with the corny ‘you need a Doctor’ line. I DEFENDED that moment to nay-says who were mocking! (though in my mind there was no romantic reciprocation in the Doctor throughout it - I was being wilfully blind I’m sure, but I honestly didn’t think of it as romantic, it was just the Doctor being sweet and self-sacrificing and acknowledging Rose’s crush/love... I guess, I assumed that moving forward the show was gonna finally end the low-key one-sided (so I thought) romance between them at that point because that arc had reached a climax?? Idk, I was dumb and not big on meta in those days...)
ANYWAY, I’m working my way through The Martha Years right now and having a BLAST (though I’d forgotten how terribly Ten continues to LAMENT the loss of Rose, oh boy................. with time and distance though, I’m appreciating the whole thing a BIT more - I’ll never, ever, ever ship it, but I can get behind the idea of Rose as someone who helped the Doctor get back in touch with his emotions/humanity after the Time War, and thus the loss of her allows for a angsty struggle where he’s constantly on the verge of going back to closing himself off emotionally again because he feels like he can’t be open without her...... except it’s too late, she’s unlocked something in him and he can’t HELP getting emotional.............. PLUS, I can’t help loving Ten forever for BEING so FUCKING EMOTIONAL ALL THE TIME - the Classic Doctors didn’t emote HALF as much imo, and I always desperately wanted them to (l just love my favs crying okay? it’s...... it’s a flaw.....) and I think Ten set a bit of trend there.
Sorry........... Rose is a whole ~thing for me. Every few years I end up venting about it. At least I am now at the point where I can finally accept he loved her. That’s progress right??
Martha fucking Jones, though? What a legend XD Didn’t let the Doctor’s moping stop her from enjoying time and space adventures, and she had a pretty sucky early experience of said adventures too (Gridlock - lied to by the Doctor, abducted and left to struggle alone the whole time, jeeze! ...I love the episode though :p) and yet she still signed up for more. What a trooper :)

vivo-morior-iterum-vivo replied to your post “sometimes i wonder how did the tf2 game devs come up with jarate and...”
I always figured it stemmed from, since he's a good sniper he doesn't have to leave his perch, so he pisses in bottles rather than abandon his post and give an enemy a chance to slip by. Then only spies can get by via cloak, so he grabbed the closest thing on hand once and it was a bottle of piss. Then someone at Valve was like yeah but no man pisses that often unless something is seriously medically wrong with them.
oh thats true ! thank you for enlightening me

If you're looking for mythological quotes, I always find the fight between Apollo and Thanatos in Alcestis by Euripides amusing. Or if you're looking for something completely different Kullervo, from the Finnish Kalevala is an interesting read. I'm going to do it a terrible injustice in trying to surmise it here, but suffice to say it's very unique as it depics a tragic hero, and is essentially mythology warning parents against abusing children. Translations of both can be found online.
hi!! while i didn’t use quotes from these texts, i just wanted to thank you for giving me some cool stuff to read :D i’m definitely going to have a proper go reading them once i’m out of essay writing hell.

In The Day That Wasn't timeline, Grace tried to tell Diego about everything they were hiding, and in the previous episode when he shut her off she was embroidering what looks like the moon falling apart. Do you think Grace was figuring out subtle ways of telling them the truth? Like about how Reginald knew the world would end?
There are so many theories!
One is that she didn’t know and it was just an easter egg. Or she was just embroidering a moon and she just messed it up because she was breaking (theory from @vivo-morior-iterum-vivo).
But I like to think she knew! Because Reginald some how knew. And she was trying to warn them like in The Day That Wasn’t. Poor Grace.

vivo-morior-iterum-vivo replied to your post: Is that all the Sisterhood of Shadows dead at...
I wasn’t sure if that was the sisterhood or just the women who took refuge at the Sirens and that perhaps the Sisterhood had switched sides to Nyssa.
I think if the Sisterhood switched sides we’d have seen something to indicate that? Like Nyssa meeting with one of them or something?
But that could be happening next episode ofc....

Is it strictly d&d or do other tabletop systems work as well?  I wouldn't want to skew your results
this particular study is looking at d&d 5e! for my dissertation i figured it was best to be as specific as possible. thanks for asking :D

I´ll put the reply in here if you don´t mind @littlehollyleaf  .. everyone go read this great piece about Edward Nygma and the two deaths of Mr. Penn ooooover here    Actually for this part it´s not much of a reply mostly a damn .. the comparison to Ed´s mentor murder spree is a good one!! And for me it works as comparison and contrast bc I still don´t believe Ed actually wants a mentor, I don´t think anyone could have lived up to his standards, he was just feeding his ego of being clevererer ;D .. a partner (in crime) sure would have worked better for him, and as contrast to the demanding scarface that kind of works well for the rejection thing too, Ed´s felt controlled by his other self he´s not going to switch that out for some controlling outside influence, the kind that Penn obviously needs
And about the Spa Bo'sh Sumka that @vivo-morior-iterum-vivo brought up in the reply bubbles, I think I was on the verge of writing about it several times but just never did, and actually it might partly be because I never saw a good word about it and I feel like a lot of people consider it disrespectful, but idk .. sure they could have handled it “better” but if you approach the scene with a “no kinkshaming in this house” attitude it doesn´t look that bad, and I did like it because it solidified a couple headcanons for me (*), that unburdening of responsibilities kind of speaks to me and although the scene never really found it´s way into meta there´s a circled mention on my “if I ever get back to fanfiction” notepad (but even with that the idea was to sneak this notion/tendency in the fic and build it up but without actually mentioning the Spa, like I wanted to try write him in a way that it would not surprise you to see him there .. and I really don´t know why I approach that episode like a “He Who Must Not Be Named“ thing ^^° well no more of that .. here )    Also yes, the Scarface thing put my mind immediately back to that .. it just fits, and I´m impressed how well they (sometimes) do craft their characters.
about the “others saw him as being weird and worthless.“ Weird certainly, but worthless I don´t think so (?) both Falcones obviously valued what he could do for them, (and I do think he made it that far breathing in this environment because he in fact is the opposite of worthless and just does really good work and surely his tendency to “follow” might have his worth on its own) but we´ve seen/heard Carmine using Oswald &I do think also valuing what he could and did do at that time but dismissing his person as freakish, so I do wonder if this has ever directly or indirectly happened with Penn too, and how much this influenced his attachment to Oswald, he seems certainly more enthusiastic about him than previous employers and Oswald surely had a point with saying he saw who he was and valued that and not only what he could do aka his worth for others .. and I´d really like to know how this was communicated .. like on screen not to many scenes come to mind ..  Just with Oswald´s line I as well I didn´t solely/predominantly link it to the Spa but saw it more generally as an acceptance of a person/ality or maybe specifically the “subservient/underling nature” as @littlehollyleaf phrased it,
Andrew Sellon said he started  learning Ventriloquism when he got the role? I only listened to the first podcast but I was under the impression that he already was one, and once someone brought the comic character to his attention it was a genuine coincidence that this lined up ..that´s two quite different things ^^  Edit: and has already been discussed nevermind that
(*) And reading through the replies it annoys me that I can´t point my finger on it why I considered it fitting even before season 5, like in ventriloquist retrospective it´s obvious but I can´t really list anything why it worked for me before, a rewatch is in need ^^

hey, idk if you know the answer to this, but do you happen to recall what book(s) ben reads in the show? we see him reading chekhov in the flashback scene right before five leaps into the future, but i‘m certain we see him reading things as a ghost, too, i just... can’t remember what, and netflix ain’t cooperating with my internet rn. i’m trying to get a better sense of his taste in literature for a fic.

I've decided Foxy and Alfred were raiding Wayne industries for tech, because otherwise Alfred would have just taken someone's gun and helped out. Also explains why Bruce could slip off with Selina.

vivo-morior-iterum-vivo replied to your photo: raisedinloveandjealousy: ...
@littlehollyleaf maybe Andrew Sellon took advice from Mark Ruffalo. He always says a bunch of people are going to die in Avengers movies and he’s almost always lying. He just likes throwing people off the scent of what’s actually going to happen.
hmmm... usually when people do that you can tell from their tone that they are teasing and I didn’t get that from Andrew when I listened, esp since he compared Penn’s situation to Tabby’s, saying that Penn and her were both meant to develop further, Tabby into Tigress and Penn into Ventriloquist, but sadly it didn’t happen... but I’m paraphrasing from memory ofc so maybe it was more teasing than I recall! (or maybe we are gonna see Tabby again as Tigress as well, that would be a win!)
