BATHURST
WHAT IS BATHURST KNOWN FOR?
Ironically, this normally beautiful and peaceful little country town is known for car racing. Every year, the famous Liqui - Moly 12 Hour car race takes place on Mount Panorama and this usually quiet town suddenly becomes as crowded as Sydney. Of Course, car racing isn’t Bathurst’s only claim to fame, Bathurst has a long rich history with gold mining, the first gold ever discovered in Australia was discovered in Bathurst, the gold rush which took place between the 1850′s and the 1870′s transformed this small provincial town into a major regional centre.
GETTING THERE AND AWAY
AIR Bathurst has a small regional airport. Pelican Airlines do daily direct flights from Sydney to Bathurst, however this is the most expensive way to travel to Bathurst from Sydney. Pelican Airlines Operates direct flight Between Sydney Airport Terminal T2 and Bathurst with two return flights per day Monday To Friday and 1 return flight on Sunday.
CAR Car is the easiest and most convenient way to get to and from Bathurst.
TRAIN The “Bathurst Bullet” train service link Sydney with Bathurst daily.Daily NSW Trainlink Services from Sydney To Lithgow with coach connections to Bathurst are also avaliable. Bathurst Bullet The Bathurst Bullet departs Bathurst Station at 7:35AM and returns earlier in the afternoon, departing Sydney at 3:05PM and arriving in Bathurst at 6:47PM. There are variations to this schedule on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to allow for existing Indian Pacific and Intercity services.
GETTING AROUND
The easiest way to get around Bathurst is by car, While Uber does exist, it can be difficult at times to get one as they are not as common as they are in big cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Bathurst Taxis are another option if you do not have a car but you will have to call for them as taxi’s are not something that you will see frequently whilst walking around Bathurst. There is a Bus company in Bathurst, Bathurst Buslines check the website for more information and for bus routes.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
OPENING HOURS Most businesses in Bathurst are closed on Sundays. Cafes typically open at 7:00AM and close at 3:00PM while restaurants tend to open and close a bit later than this typically around 5:00PM to 9:00PM. Shops usually open at 10:00Am and close at 5:00PM. On or around public holidays such as Christmas and New Year, you can expect most businesses to be closed.
ROAD SAFETY Kangaroos are abundant in Bathurst, unfortunately, that also means that the chance of a collision with one whilst driving is higher than it is in Sydney particularly at night. Drive extra cautiously, especially around areas like Mount Panorama and further out away from the CBD.

I just finished painting this new display card yesterday for Aaron Rossner's special figurine project which is now only available at my lil shop Toutoune Gallery on 998 Bathurst St. in Toronto, ON. *Blessed*
Aaron Rossner (also known as @wingnut_toys on instagram) is an avid toy collector, an amazing artist and tinkerer who lives in Victoria, BC. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him in person yet, but I've been a fan from afar for many years.
Check out his instagram feed and visit Toutoune Gallery too to view some photographs of the figurines from this project. They are so fabulous! Every single one is so precious. Aaron is a master at recyling funny bits of wood, which you will surely notice if you view any of the figurines this painting is based off of.
Will share more about this project in the following posts. : o )
The image above was painted with acrylic-gouaches on watercolour paper. (A mix of Holbein Acryla Gouache, Turner Design Gouache and Turner Acryl-Gouache)
Prints of this image will be available as 5x7 postcards very soon and will be purchasable at the store and in my webshop as soon as I get them back from the printers.

Jack x Belle // Rated M // Post-Canon
After Jack is secretly removed from Port Victory and forced into exile, Belle has no choice but to move on with her life as best she can. But Jack has never stopped trying to return, and he’s about to get his chance.
Jack thinks about her sometimes. When the light first touches his face (usually). When his mind teeters at the edge of a dim, cluttered sleep (almost always). He thinks about her when he measures quinine powder, mixing it into liquor in precise, rationed doses. When he cleans and sharpens his surgical tools, even though they get little use. He thinks about the way she wanted him to cut her open with a knife. Sometimes it’s the only thing he can think about — the red stain of her blood coating his hands. He’s certain the soldiers must be able to see it on him — see it dripping from his sleeves like a curse, like a spiritual plague. Then he remembers he’s a rational man. Jack thinks about the way she wanted him. Belle is alive, or at least she was, last time Jack saw her. That was approximately 193 days ago. He can’t trust the tally to be exact.
Chapter One (5.1k): Bathurst // The Women's Ward
Jack gets a lucky break. Back in Port Victory, Belle visits Fagin.
Chapter Two (5.5k): Fever // The Decree
Jacks becomes a patient. Belle's actions have unexpected consequences.
#published chapter two so i should probably make a post about this fic#the artful dodger#dodgerfox#jack x belle#jack dawkins#belle fox#my fic#the artful dodger fanfic

On this day, 21 May 1830, 11 prisoners detained in the British Norfolk Island prison colony in the Pacific Ocean escaped. They seized provisions and wine, then stole a whale boat which had been brought by a visiting botanist. The escapees then sailed to nearby Phillip Island, where they still more provisions as well as pistols. They then sailed south. According to the Bathurst Free Press and Mining Journal, the next day there was bad weather "with a very heavy sea, and there is very little doubt that they all perished". But no bodies or wreckage was ever found, so it is possible the men made their escape. Norfolk Island was the most notorious prisoner in the English-speaking world, described variously as "hell on earth" and a "machine for extinguishing hope". Due to the remote nature of the islands, they were supposed to be used for the most dangerous and incorrigible criminals in the British Empire. But in reality most of the prisoners were workers from English industrial towns, the vast majority of whom had been convicted of non-violent property offences. And some convicts, like James McGivern, who was convicted of "buggering a cow" chose to be transported, because although he insisted he was "innocent of the offence… [he] pleaded guilty as [he] did not wish to remain at home". More information, sources and map: https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/7859/Norfolk-Island-escape Pictured: an illustration of convicts on the island https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=630051095834776&set=a.602588028581083&type=3

Alex is known as the grumpy one, rarely smiling (so rare that it became a meme of sorts on social media of to comment when he did in 2022). This may be changing in 2023 with a change to McLaren after six years at Andretti. New season, new team, new Alex? Time will tell. He still isn't the most social of people, preferring people people (friends and family) over people (everyone else). He has a soft spot for child fans, often going out of his way to interact with them.
His conservative upbringing shows on occasion, particularly on his podcast where he and good friend James Hinchcliffe discuss the latest racing news and whatever else comes into their heads. The number of times James has said "No, Alex. We've talked about this." when Alex says something that could be considered concerning for a rational person to say (often related to those conservative views he was raised with) is numerous. Much credit to Mr. Hinchcliffe for having the patience to educate his friend.
Alex extensively researches (perhaps obsessively) what catches his interest, be it smoking meats, the PH of his pool, or weird flavored soda cocktails. He is generous to his closest friends, recently planning a "not Bachelor party" weekend for a friend. He is something of perfectionist and a (self-admitted) clean freak. He enjoys betting on sporting events, although now must do his betting through friends as he allowed James to parental lock the betting app on his phone.
Fanfic Lore
Good friends with James Hinchcliffe, James Hinchcliffe and Marco Andretti. The four could be considered a 'band of brothers'
Often paired with one of the others of the band.
Paired with teammate Pato O'Ward

The explorer Alexander Gordon Laing was born on December 27th 1794 in Edinburgh.
While some Scottish explorers’ exploits are engraved on the national psyche, such as David Livingstone and Mungo Park, others like Alexander Gordon Laing have long since slipped into near obscurity. Yet he achieved that most coveted of prizes, Laing managed from here to Timbuktu located in the West African nation of Mali on the southern edge of Sahara Desert.
Gordon Laing, as he became known, was the son of school professor William Laing who initially educated his son personally. Alexander joined the military and rose through ranks, being part of York Light Infantry Volunteers since 1811, 2nd West India Regiment since 1815 and Royal African Colonial Corps since 1822 where he reached the rank of Captain. During those years he managed to visit much of Africa where he took part in several armed conflicts against slavers. HAs well as the military campaigns Laing had an interest in geography, managing to find and map the source of river Rokel and relatively precisely ascertain the source of river Niger. In 1824 he was promoted to the Africa-only rank of Major, which he carried during many months of Ashanti War in the modern day Ghana.
In 1825 he managed to secure the permission for finding the source of river Niger and finding the route to the city of Timbuktu. His journey came with the blessing of the Famous British explorer Joseph Banks, and Henry, 3rd Earl Bathurst who then commanded the British colonies in the Africa.
Laing was instructed to explore the hydrography of the Niger basin. His journey began on 16 July 1825, two days after he married Emma Warrington, daughter of the British consul in Tripoli. He traveled across the Sahara, reached the settlements of Ghadames and In Salah. During the last leg of the journey across desert of Tanezrouft his party became attacked by the group of Tuareg raiders, during which he wrote that he received over 20 wounds. In the end, he managed to reach city of Timbuktu on August 18 1826, barely alive and with only one hand. He never left the city even though he planned to return home according to his letters. Modern historians presume he was murdered on the night of 26 September.

Did walk #73 today. Went out shopping, down to Queen Street West from Spadina to just west of Bathurst. Happily went to a couple of stores I have not visited in literal decades (and was very happy to find still existed) - Arton Beads, where I picked up some beads to replace some on the neckline of a blouse I have, plus a couple of cords to restring some necklaces, and Romni Wools, where I picked up the above shown cotton yarn to crochet into a scarf, in theory (more about that under the cut). Sadly my wool allergy precluded me picking up most of the really cool yarns they had, though I greatly enjoyed walking around the store admiring all the pretty yarns.
After that I headed back to North York, stopped in at a Wendy's for lunch (think it's been over a decade since I last had a frosty) and then popped into a Loblaws to pick up some odds and ends (mostly snacks). And then back to the nephew's place. All told I think the round trip and roaming around ate up about four hours time.
Since I'm currently sitting for hours at a time scanning photos, which takes quite a few seconds per photo to do, I figured I should do something I've been thinking of for a while, and try doing a simple crochet project again, since I can probably do several stitches per scan (and in the past I've crocheted entire baby blankets in repeated tiny spurts like that). A colourful scarf seemed a decent option - just row after identical row of single stitches, probably, or if I feel more ambitious I suppose I could do doubles or triples and chains to make a fillet pattern of some kind. I was tentatively thinking of doing a "colour of the sky" inspired scarf, if I could find small inexpensive skeins in enough colours, but decided that was probably a bit ambitious for a first project back.
I eventually settled on this really nice variegated cotton yarn to work with. I also bought two sizes of hooks, since I'm not sure which will work better with this yarn; iirc the larger hook will work better if I want a looser stitch (which I do), but the smaller hook may be closer to the correct size to use with this particular yarn, since it's quite thin. We'll see what happens when I try starting off the scarf tomorrow.
I haven't worked with a twisted skein of yarn like this before; taking one of the two apart and winding it into a ball was a nightmarish sequence of repeated gigantic tangles that had to be carefully picked apart enough to wind up more yarn. I think I should try and find an online tutorial on how to handle them before I try balling up the second. Yes, that is the cardstock backing from one of the needles I'm using to wind the wool onto :)
Not at all sure how long a scarf this'll make, since I haven't crocheted in years and have lost all sense of amounts. I will be very happy if these two large skeins are enough to approach 4th Doctor scarf lengths, and I figure if I severely underbought and it's much shorter than expected, I can give it a twist and join the ends for an infinity scarf. I'm mostly expecting something between those two extremes.

New Toutoune Gallery Blog's First Post!!!
Hello all : o )
Thank you for joining me here! If you are familiar with Toutoune Gallery, you may have already visited the space at 998 Bathurst St, in Toronto, Canada. If you haven't had the chance yet, maybe you've come across the website www.toutounegallery.com or the instagram account @toutoune.gallery and have been a fan from afar!
Toutoune Gallery first opened to the public on October 8th, 2021! Wow! It's hard for me to believe it sometimes... Time flies as they say.
To introduce myself a bit, my name is Ginette Lapalme and I'm an artist who has been living and working in Toronto since 2005. I graduated from the Illustration program at OCAD in 2009 and have been active in the Toronto independent art scene ever since.
I have always made work in a variety of forms and mediums, including but not limited to: zines, comics, stickers, sculptures, arts & crafts, ceramics, animation, paintings and drawings... For a time I helped curate a portion of TCAF from 2009-2019 called the Woweezonk Browsery with my best friends Patrick Kyle and Chris Kuzma <3 and I also previously worked for Page & Panel TCAF Shop (2014-2017) and the Beguiling Comic Shop (2017-2021).
Toutoune Gallery is the culmination of my artistic career as well as my passions for collecting, all made possible by my experiences working in comic book retail, almost two decades of self-employment as a art-object maker as well as my time with the Toronto Comic and Arts Festival.
Anyway! All that to say thank you for joining me here. This blog will be a space for me to share some works and images from Toutoune on a more regular basis. I will still keep up with the shop's instagram account too but I needed a place where I could rant a bit more and not be so annoyed by the algorithm lol.
