So. My city had a shooting yesterday.

I won’t get into it very much but please take note.

Our chief of police has decided he will say the shooters name one time. Then never again. He will be referred to as “the shooter” from then on. Please. As a local. Do not name him. Do not share his photo.

The local news is following suit. (Only really seen National news say the shooters name multiple times)

Instead please focus on the 12 that unfortunately lost their lives yesterday. 11 of them were at work about to go home for the day and the 12th came in to get a permit.

In the midst of tragedy, there is such good in the world. I have had colleagues, vendors, relatives and friends (2 of my oldest...Elementary School BFFs, Maureen Meyer & Amy Tuthill) who have reached out to me to check on me and tell me that I am in their thoughts and hearts. #VBStrong It's always assumed that since I'm an advocate for #BlackLivesMatter , I hate the #police ... Which couldn't be further from the truth. #VirginiaBeach Chief Cervera got the call on May 31st that no Chief wants to get. . The men and women under your watch must now answer their call of duty and enter an active shooter scene. .. Chief Cervera has always shown me nothing but #respect and has always kept the line of communication open. I captured this image right before having a few words with him Sunday at the #vigil. He received many words of encouragement from those present, and we even got a few smiles out of him thanks to this puppy, and a child who wanted na picture with him. He is holding up as well as could be expected, and he has shown bravery, honor , and leadership throughout this tragic instance.
