"The central drama of my life is about being a fraud, alas. That’s a complete lie, really; the central drama of my life is actually about being lonely, and staying thin, but fraudulence gets a fair amount of play."

The Thousand Dollar Tan Line
Before I say anything about the book, I want to let you all know that I was sent this book by the publisher to review but that in no means changes my review. I was planning on purchasing the book anyway and if it sucked, I'd still tell you. If you need more proof of my honesty in this review, I purchased the book for my friend and got the audiobook off of audible.
I've never written a book review so hopefully this is actually beneficial for someone who is thinking about reading the book. I decided to give more of my feelings of the book rather than plot details so I don't spoil anyone who is planning on reading it.
So do I think you should buy this book? Definitely. At the very least, borrow it from a friend or the library, but the book is an amazing addition to the Veronica Mars story. I was honestly a little weary when I saw that the book was not solely written by Rob Thomas, but also by Jennifer Graham, but if they wrote separate parts of the book, I couldn't tell. I felt like I was reading an entire season of the show and having no idea who was actually involved. Looking back at my notes, I wrote down whenever I thought a certain person was involved in the crime and the only time I was right was right before we found out who did it. It felt just like seasons one and two when I spent the entire season accusing different characters of doing it but until that final episode and Veronica figured out, I really had no idea. There were definitely parts of the book that I was genuinely shocked, including spending a good few minutes at the hair salon with my mouth hanging open in shock. Like the movie, this book does a great job with balancing throw backs to both the show and the movie, it picks up shortly after the movie ended, and giving completely new material. Veronica is still the same person she is in both the show and the movie, with the added expletive here in there.
I really don't want to spoil the book for anyone so I'll stop there, but honestly, if you're a fan of the show and you like to read, then this book is an absolute must. If it wouldn't feel like a cop-out this story is one I would have loved to see played out had it not already been put into the book. I can't wait to read the next books and experience the same thing I felt with this one.
The book retails for $15.95 in the US, but you can get it on Amazon for $9.57. If you prefer listening to your books, the book is narrated by Kristen Bell (whose Logan voice is pretty amazing, if I do say so myself) and retails for $28. If you are an audible member you can either buy the audiobook for around $19 or using a $15 monthly credit. If you're a new member to audible you can sign up for a free 30 Day Trial and get this book or any other for free. I'm not affiliated with audible at all, but my mother has an account and we love it.
If anyone reads the book and wants to discuss it with me, feel free to message me here or at my personal account, EasyGoingVMars.

The Thousand Dollar Tan Line Review
Not really spoilers, just a teaser I guess you'd call it?
So, I finished the Veronica Mars book, The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, and I loved it. I thought it was amazing, and that it was really well done. It had characters that we loved from the show, and even some memorable ones who were mentioned or showed up in the book that were only in an episode. And yes, there was one big character that came back, which I don't think is too surprising, but still interesting.
The book focused a lot on some of my favourite relationships of Veronica's. There were some particular Veronica/Keith and Veronica/Wallace moments that were very touching. I loved how the book was like Veronica's voice-overs, but constant, so we know how she feels about them in more depth.
There were a lot of things from the show that were in the book, from specific lines, to characters, (and maybe even a mention of the pony Veronica's always wanted), that had me squealing repeatedly.
The dialogue was great and sharp, I could hear it in the characters' actual voices, because the lines were exactly how they said things in the show/movie.
The mystery itself was also great, as always. Whenever you think you have something figured out it changes, until the last couple chapters where I was just shaking my head in disbelief and holding my breath. It was like watching an episode of Veronica Mars.
I do wish there'd been some more of some characters, but there will be more books so hopefully they'll be further explored. (There was also some pretty great Dick moments that had me laughing for a while).
The book was a tilt-a-whirl of emotions, I'd be holding my breath one second, then laughing out loud the next. I was almost in tears at some points, and so touched at others.
All in all it was a great book, which I recommend you all read (although seeing as this is a Veronica Mars tumblr, I'm assuming you're all fans, which means I'm assuming you're all already planning on reading it, but if there's some very strange reason you're not planning on reading it, like maybe an asteroid came from outer space and gave you amnesia, take this as a sign now and READ IT).
Even if you want someone who hasn't seen the show or someone who hasn't seen the movie to read it, they can still follow it very easily. I think they would still be able to enjoy reading it very much.
My summation of how I felt about the book: ASDFGHKL;L'WIFRKJG
If you've stuck out reading this whole thing, thank you! I hope you go and read the book :)))
Thanks again to Vintage Anchor/Random House publishing for sending me a copy of the book early!

If you’re reading to find friends, you’re in deep trouble. We read to find life, in all its possibilities. The relevant question isn’t ‘Is this a potential friend for me?’ but ‘Is this character alive?'

Sum: Forty Tales From The Afterlife by David Eagleman
Have a seat. Read the first chapter. It's literally two pages! Eagleman's inventive possibilities for the afterlife are thought-provoking, strangely twisted, and intricately unexpected. Instead of a morbid account of what might happen when we die, Eagleman, a neuroscientist, gives us 40 brief, evocative, and oddly fun chapters that put life into perspective.  --Eva
