GVGP Profile: Claudio Monty

With Olivia Monty's entry done, it's now time for us to talk about her husband -- Claudio.

When it comes to his ancestry, Claudio is the deceased son of Patrizio and Isabella Monty, as well as the brother of Antonio and Bianca Monty. His grandparents include Valentine and Silvia Monty, as well as Vincentio and Francisca Pantalone. Finally, Claudio's great-grandparents are Bassanio and Portia Monty, Angelo and Mariana Capitano, Proteus and Julia Pantalone, and Lucio and Overdone Zanni.

Claudio Monty's Genetic Profile

Before his untimely death, Claudio was married to Olivia Monty, and they had two children, with a third on the way. As such, Claudio will be present in his offsprings' genetic profiles, and will be given a mention whenever necessary.

Skintone

As the son of two S3 parents, Claudio’s S3 skintone makes perfect sense.

Hair Color

If you’ve already read through Patrizio and Isabella’s genetic profiles, you'd know that their hair genetics are a mess. In Patrizio’s case, it’s due to contradictory sources, one where he has black hair, and one where he’s a brunet. While both of these hair colors can work, the brunet option is more situational, as we can't truly ascertain what Valentine and Portia Monty's genotypes truly were.

SimPE lists Isabella as a blonde, but you will often find her depicted as a brunette (both by fans and in TS3). Unlike Patrizio, Isabella’s problem lies more with her parents’ faulty hair colors (specifically her mother’s). Much like Valentine, Vincentio Pantalone's headshot shows him with black hair despite having one brunet parent, and one with a recessive hair color. Conversely, Francisca has dominant brown hair in her headshot, yet both Lucio and Overdone Zanni had recessive hair colors.

As you’ve probably figured out, this whole hair thing is incredibly complicated. That said, in the interest of keeping this entry as short as possible, I’m only going to focus on how the following hair combinations affect Claudio’s genetic profile specifically.

Option 1: Black-Haired!Patrizio x Brown-Haired!Isabella: With a black-haired father and a brunette mother, Claudio’s black hair would make sense.

Option 2: Brown-Haired!Patrizio x Brown Haired!Isabella: Claudio’s black hair would only make sense with two brown-haired parents if Patrizio inherited the corresponding allele from his mother.

Option 3: Brown-Haired!Patrizio x Blonde-Haired!Isabella: With a brunet father and a blonde mother, Claudio’s black hair would only make sense if Patrizio received an allele for black hair from his mother.

Option 1: Black-Haired!Patrizio x Blonde-Haired!Isabella: With a black-haired father and a blonde mother, Claudio’s black hair would make sense.

Eye Color

Much like Consort Capp, Claudio is the victim of having an eye color that appeared spontaneously. Claudio’s ancestry consists of sims with brown, grey, and dark blue eyes; however, Claudio has light blue eyes. Of the known eye colors in his genetic history, the only recessive eye color is grey; however, only three of his ancestors were programmed with this specific gene.

On Patrizio’s side of the family tree, the only sim with grey eyes is Bassanio Monty. While we can’t say for sure if he was homozygous or heterozygous, we do know that he passed down a recessive allele to his son Valentine, who passed his down to Patrizio.

As for Isabella, both her father and paternal grandmother had grey eyes. In this case, Julia would have passed her recessive allele down to Vincentio, who passed it down to Isabella. That said, Vincentio couldn’t have had grey eyes if Proteus Pantalone was homozygous for dark blue eyes, so the latter sim would have needed a hypothetical recessive allele to justify this.

With these factors in mind, Claudio’s light blue eyes aren’t completely impossible. That being said, one of his great-grandparents would have needed to possess the proper phantom allele. Unlike with Consort, where there are multiple possibilities that can only be narrowed down so much, Claudio’s can be narrowed down to one sim.

Of his great-grandparents, the only one who couldn’t have passed down a light blue allele, not even with hypothetical genetics, is Portia Monty. As we’ve already discussed, Bassanio’s recessive eye color means Portia is the only sim who could have passed down a dominant allele to her brown-eyed son.

With Portia eliminated, we can remove four more sims. All of Patrizio and Isabella’s maternal ancestors had brown eyes. As a result, the Capitanos and Zannis could all pass down exclusively dominant alleles, and the Monty family tree wouldn’t be any worse off. Not only that, but these exclusively brown-eyed ancestors perfectly explain how Patrizio and Isabella could be heterozygous for brown eyes, meaning Claudio's recessive alleles would have come from the Monty and Pantalone lines.

Now we’re left with only the Monty and Pantalone lines. We’ve already debunked Portia through a process of elimination, so we’re left with three sims — Bassanio Monty, and Proteus and Julia Pantalone. Of the three, the first sim we can remove from the list would be Julia. If Julia had a light blue allele, then it would mean that Proteus’s recessive allele would need to be grey to explain Vincentio’s eye color. While this situation is plausible, it’s not the option that uses the fewest hypothetical genetics.

This leaves us with Bassanio and Proteus as potential sources for the light blue allele. While both could have realistically had the gene, only one is needed to explain Claudio’s eye color. Of the two, however, the option that uses the fewest hypothetical genetics would be to assume that Proteus was the one who initially possessed the recessive allele. Unlike Bassanio, who could be heterozygous, Proteus would need to be heterozygous to explain how his son, and by extension his great-grandson, could realistically have recessive eye colors.

As a Whole

Claudio Monty's filled out genetic profile. As you can see, his skintone makes perfect sense when taking his genetic history into account. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for his hair color, which makes sense on the surface, but has too many tangled webs to properly unweave. Finally, Claudio's eye color is a happy medium, as it makes sense with hypothetical genetics; however, the journey to deciphering the source is rather tedious.

The Pantalone Extended Family

Vincentio and Francisca (nee Zanni) Pantalone might have the most grandchildren in the neighbourhood, now that I think of it. Their eldest son, Varrius, moved back home after college and married his sweetheart, Rosaline Dottore (aunt to Olivia Monty). They had one boy, Mercade, and then decided maybe they should try for another. Shortly after getting pregnant with baby Fenton, Varrius discovered Rosaline had renewed her fling with Othello Capitano! They’ve been pretty contentious ever since, despite Francisca’s attempts to repair their marriage. The two are currently mulling over the decision to divorce.

Isabella snapped up Patrizio Monty as quick as she could, and together they have two little boys (Claudio and Antonio) with a third baby on the way.

Her twin brother, Pompey, is a happy house husband to Dolabella Caesar and father to twins Hermione and Leontes.

Francisca Zanni is the cutest old lady ever! I’m at a loss about Rosaline and Varrius. He’s always picking fights with her now, so it might just be easier for her to move out on her own with one of the boys.

Our next sim has what is, up until now, the longest genetic profile covered in this series. Today, we’re going to look at Bianca Monty.

Unlike the sims we've covered so far, Bianca is the first one with three generations of ancestors. This means that her genetic profile will be more complex than what we've seen before.

When it comes to her ancestry, Bianca is the only daughter of Patrizio and Isabella Monty, as well as the sister of Antonio and the late Claudio Monty. Her grandparents include Valentine and Silvia Monty, as well as Vincentio and Francisca Pantalone. Bianca Monty's filled out genetic profile. As you can see, her skintone and eye color both make perfect sense when taking her genetic history into account. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for her hair color, which makes sense on the surface, but has too many tangled webs to unweave.

With the biggest profile so far out of the way, we're going to scale back a generation for the next entry. Next time, we're going to cover the sim who could most easily pass as the Unsavory Charlatan -- Cornwall Capp.

Teenagers: Late 1920s-Early 1930s

Valentine Monty, Vicentino Pantalone, Scribonia Capp, Andromache Thebe, Silvia Capitano, Francisca Zanni, Octavius Caesar, and Hector Albion were teenagers in the swinging late 20s, and were developing feelings that they were not familiar with.

They all felt the pressure of living up to their pioneering parents expectations, and they all could relate to one another about that pressure.

2004: Why Isabella lost her crush/infatuation for Patrizio.

Isabella Monty has been thinking a lot on recent years, and..... regret isn't the word, but a deep sadness overcomes her. The marriage with Patrizio has lost its luster, and while she still loves him, the passion is gone. Now that she and Patrizio are elders, and everyone is getting older, she just wants to spend time with her husband and family in peace. But he is too focused on seeing Consort suffer to even enjoy their retirement.

It has been almost 50 years since her parents Vincentio and Francisca passed away, and she is still not over it. They were barely in their 40s, and were in good health, but were deceased due to unnatural causes soon after the feud started. It breaks her heart that her parents were not there during her wedding, or that they would never be able to meet her children, and their grandchildren. She couldn't go to them for advice on her marriage, or being a parent. Isabella always believed that Consort and Contessa played a part in their deaths, and it caused her to hate them a lot more. But does a part of her blame Patrizio, and her parents close association to the Montys in being caught up in the drama that had NOTHING to do with them?

As time went on, Isabella went to confide in, and find lifelong friends in Maria and Judith, who supported her in every possible way. They defended the Montys, and were a good helping hand. Some decades later, they and their husbands also found premature, and unnatural deaths. It hurt her that their association with the Montys caused them to die young.

The 3 recent deaths hurt her the most, and not just for obvious reasons. Of course she lost her son (maybe her favorite child), but to outlive your child, who didn't even get to live long is crushing. But she promised Maria and Judith to look after their daughters, but with Olivia and Hero dying young, she failed at that too. She had to see two women that she liked pass away, and seeing their children (and her grandchildren) lose parents extremely young caused a lot of resentment.

Isabella has never, and will never reveal it, but she always has, and is still insecure about being Patrizio's second choice over Contessa, over 50 years later. They were closer to the same age to she and Consort. And with Contessa's VERY recent death, she noticed a change in Patrizio that brought back ALL of her insecurities. She and Contessa hated one another LONG before Patrizio feuded with anyone, but it added another layer.

It's sad that she has come to the conclusion that all of these layers caused the infatuation in her marriage to go away.

Monty/Pantalone crew: Mid 1930s

Trends started to die down slower in Veronaville, so it wasn't shocking that in the mid-1930s, the fashion was still akin to the 1920s.

Vaping and drugs was a regular amongst this generation. Despite their parents pressuring them to preserve Veronaville's legacy, the newly married couples just wanted some fun.

Very early 1940s, World War II

Valentine Monty and Vincentio Pantalone were recruited to join World War II for about...... 3-4 months, but their rich privilege was able to buy them out of their term. The Two families were able to reunite happily.

Having covered all eight sims in this group, let’s review our findings.

In deciding how to go about these summaries, I thought that showing would be better than telling. As such, I’ve combined all of the information for each sim into several charts. Like in the individual entries, everything is color-coded, and I will give a special mention to any oddities found in a sim’s genetic code when they come up.

Oddity 1: Hector’s Green Eyes

Hector’s green eyes could only make sense should we assume that one of his parents has an allele for green eyes somewhere in their genetic code. The brown-eyed Priam would need a recessive allele in his genetic code for Hector’s recessive green eyes to make sense. By assuming said allele is green, Hector’s green eyes would make sense without having to look at Hecuba any further.

That said, as stated in Hector’s profile, assuming that Priam was the parent to pass down the green allele is something that may cause some problems down the line; however, this is a topic for another entry.

Oddity 2: Scribonia���s Grey Eyes

Both Cleopatra and Antony would each need a hypothetical recessive allele in their genetic codes. Also, at least one of the two must have an allele for grey eyes for Scribonia to be able to inherit them, though it doesn’t matter which one.

Oddity 3: Octavius’ Hair and Eyes

Octavius could only be a natural blond if Julius has an allele for either blond or red hair somewhere in his genetic code. Since Calpurnia already has blonde hair, Julius could realistically have an allele for either recessive hair color for Octavius’ hair color would make sense.

Like his hair, Octavius’ eye color is something that only makes sense with hypothetical genetics. In this case, Calpurnia would need to have an allele for a recessive eye color somewhere in her genetic code. Assuming that said allele was light blue solves this problem without having to look at Julius any further.

Oddity 4: Valentine and Vincentio’s Black Hair

Both Valentine and Vincentio are programmed to have black hair, yet they each have a parent with brown hair and another with a recessive hair color. In both cases, either their hair would need to be dyed, or their brown-haired parent would need an allele for black hair somewhere in their genetic code.

Oddity 5: Vincentio’s Grey Eyes

Vincentio’s grey eyes could only make sense if his father has an allele for a recessive eye color somewhere in his genetic code. Since Julia already has grey eyes, Proteus does not need to have a grey allele for Vincentio’s eye color to make sense.

Oddity 6: Andromache, Francisca, and Hector’s Brown Hair

As you can see in the final spreadsheet, three sims in this group are programmed to have brown hair despite their parents having recessive hair colors. In all three cases, I reasoned that the only way that these three sims could be the biological children of their respective parents would be if all of them dyed their hair.

As daughters of blond fathers and red-haired mothers, both Andromache and Francisca could realistically have either hair color. Hector, on the other hand, is the son of two blond(e) parents, meaning that assuming he’s a natural blond would be the option that allows us to mess with his parents’ genetic codes the least.

Planned Additional Essays

As I previously mentioned in the introduction, there are specific topics relating to members of this group that I planned on covering in the future. With this batch of sims done, I am now able to share some additional essays I have planned without inadvertently spoiling any of their genetic profiles.

For this generation of sims, I have two essays currently planned. The first essay, which is about Octavius Capp, is almost finished as of this summary going up online. The second essay, which is about Hector Thebe, is still in the planning stages as of now, but I’ll hopefully finish it sooner rather than later.

Who’s Next?

Now that we’re finished with this group of eight, it’s time to move on to the third generation Capps and Montys.

Having run these twelve sims through a randomizer, Maria Arlecchino will be the first sim we will cover in the next group. That said, feel free to request a change to the above order if there’s a sim whose genetic profile you want me to cover sooner rather than later.

Outside of the progenitors, this grouping is probably the biggest of the bunch. As of right now, I have finished researching the entire group; it's just a matter of putting all twelve of these essays together.

GVGP Profile: Vincentio Pantalone

Our final entry in this group of eight belongs to Isabella Monty’s father, Vincentio Pantalone.

Vincentio’s Genetic Profile

According to the Monty family tree, Vincentio was the son of Proteus and Julia Pantalone. As you can see in his genetic profile, Vincentio’s parents are his only known ancestors. As such, this entry will likely be somewhat short compared to those belonging to his daughter and other descendants.

Vincentio’s Visual Profile

As Isabella’s father, and an ancestor to all of her descendants, Vincentio will be present in each of their genetic profiles and will be given a mention whenever necessary.

Skintone

As the son of two S3 parents, Vincentio having an S3 skintone makes perfect sense.

Hair Color

As the son of a brunet father and a blonde mother, Vincentio’s black hair does not make any sense should we assume his parents were homozygous.

Much like Valentine Monty, there are two ways hypothetical genetics could fix Vincentio’s hair color problem. The first is to assume that Proteus and Julia are both homozygous for their respective hair colors, meaning Vincentio’s hair was dyed, and he had brown hair like his father. The second is to assume that Vincentio has natural black hair and that one of his parents, specifically his father, is heterozygous and possesses an allele for black hair in his genetic code.

Eye Color

Vincentio’s eye color does not make sense unless we assume Proteus has a recessive allele in his genetic code. Unlike Julia, who had recessive grey eyes like her son, Proteus could not have passed his dominant dark blue allele down to Vincentio. As such, he would have needed an allele for a recessive eye color somewhere in his genetic code.

First Generation-BORN Pantalones and Montys: Generation 2 Ancestry Results

Monty

Valentine Monty was born in the late 1910s, and was mainly taught his Italian traditions and culture, despite being mixed race. Any ties to his Arabic or African heritage was not passed down to him. Some would say he used his mixed race to his advantage, as being "exotic" was a way to charm people. His parents prioritizing family as Family sims was not passed down to their son.

Silvia Capitano was born in Veronaville, and was taught by her parents to prioritize her education, though she was yet another one who lost her North African Arabic heritage, and wasn't taught it by her parents. Apparently she was a wild teen that she got from her Popularity mother (which attracted Valentine), but she would lose that wildness with adulthood to focus on the big prize (that she got from her Fortune father), and their marriage became very..... non traditional.

Pantalone

Vincentio Pantalone was born in an educated family, where he continued his father's thirst for knowledge, and also to a lesser extent, picked up his mother's respect for family. Unlike many of his generation, he made sure to keep up with his Arabic and African heritage, and to remain knowledgeable about it.

Francisca Zanni was always a thrifty one, and knew when to take an opportunity. Growing up with two Knowledge sims, they taught her how to be book smart and street smart. Marrying the uber successful Pantalone family was of course out of love, but also a political power move.
