The Prisoner of Castle If

Or, as his better known title suggests, The Count of Monte Cristo is the next series the club will be watching this year. After two big shows about Dumas' Valois trilogy, we continue the streak with an adaptation of a better known story of revenge and a man who thinks himself as the voice of Providence.

It's the first time this series will be shown in the club, and being only 3 episodes long, we will watch one episode each Friday and finish the month with a movie that will go hand in hand with our comparison year. Besides that, prepare yourself for shorter Fridays this May, as the episodes are only a little over an hour long.

We will witness lots of scheming, corrupt French governments, Dumas' most beloved love-starved characters, boats, changes of the self, and the emotional and ideological turmoil of a man who has given up a solid identity for one that allows him to control everything and be everywhere all at once and those with whom he has some scores to settle. We will also see some familiar faces such as Yevgeny Dvorzhetsky, Viktor Avilov, and- wait, HIM again?! Yeah, called it, Boyarsky, who can't let himself miss even a single Dumas adaptation.

Surprise!young Evgeniy as Albert de Morcerf in the Soviet adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo” (re-named into “The Prisoner of the Castle of If”, why would anyone even do that?!). I did not even know he was in it, or I would have watched it much earlier!

The adaptation contains some... strange artistic choices and major changes from the book, but the good moments are absolutely incredible.

And now I wonder if anyone would be interested if I subtitled the three eps in English (yes, it is a mini-series this time). Hmm...

Nikita Avilova is an idea based off the movie, THE COLLECTOR / THE COLLECTION. This movie features a serial killer who has a collection of humans kept in depraved conditions in an abandoned hotel. Nikita's parents were killed when she was only six.

TL;DR IF YOU'VE WATCHED THE COLLECTOR; ARKIN DOESN'T EXIST, SHE WAS TAKEN IN BY THE COLLECTOR AT EIGHT, WORKED WITH HIM AT FIFTEEN AND KILLED HIM AT NINETEEN, TAKING OVER HIS MANTLE. EXCEPT IN EUROPE.

She watched her father go after the masked killer with a knife, and decided, that if he father could do so, so could she. While Randall, the killer, was not looking, she managed to slice his leg open. Amused and Intrigued by her anger, he decided to keep her for his collection. Slowly, she became his favourite toy.

By the time she was fifteen, she had come to love him to a certain degree. Stokholm Syndrome and the insane conditions she was left in, took their toll. By that point, Randall knew he had her in his grips. And thus he began to train her to kill.

She was trained with knives, poisons, guns, and a number of other painful torture methods. He foolishly taught her everything he knew. He left her with access to every one of his contacts. His ties with the police, the government. They were all in her thin hands.

She had killed four people by the time she was 18. Dispatched of countless bodies by then too. She was her "father's" right hand woman, and she was good at it. Disembowling and disposing of bodies was childs work for her.

but she was 19 when she turned the knife on him. Sick of the menial tasks and lack of prestige, she slit his throat infront of the people he kept. She knew how to control others, how to hold power in her hands and her act caused all of Randalls possessions to fear her.

By the next morning, Randall was found on the border of the mafia territory he often worked with. With a columbian necktie to send him off, she left him posed in prayer. Two things everyone who knew about her, knew she favoured.

Europe was in for a treat with her on the loose.
