If I had a nickel for every time a man and a woman were getting it on while a gay man was suffering, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but weird that it happened twice, right?

SEVERANCE S2E4 SPOILERS
-
-
-
-
ok so dumping all my messy thoughts here. first, i LOVED irving in this ep so fucking much like him calling out allll the bs with helena. i’ve always loved him but he fucking ate in this ep. mark, on the other hand, who i thought was my fav that could do no wrong, was pissing me off. irving saw right through him, that mark was so blinded by love he couldn’t see what was right in front of him. like bitch, THATS NOT UR HELLY. WAKE UP.
it was always rlly obvious it was never helly r in the first place after she stepped out of the elevator. but the repercussions of IRVING B GETTING FIRED (aka KILLED) is TORTURING ME. i better see him again or dan erickson and the other writers will be paying for my therapy bills.
also mark is gonna realize he just slept w HELENA EAGAN !! helena rlly wanted mark wowwwwww. the last thing helly r remembered was speaking to the lumon crowd (“we’re prisoners!!”) and now shes drowning in freezing water. welcome back helly we missed u <33
i already mentioned in another post the mark/helena sex scene to irving cuts paralleling with jayce/mel sex scene to viktor dying w the hexcore cuts. that drove me insane. like mark (jayce) betraying irving (viktor) with someone who’s kinda using him - helena (mel), not in like a romantic way for mark/irving but just betrayal generally. also irving (viktor) nearing his ‘death’ and mark (jayce) being fully confronted w it later like he shoulda listened more all along. oughhhhh im losing it.
i want mark and dylan to FORMALLY apologize to irving b’s spirit. ohhhh they are going to regret ever doubting him. and helena better be watching her back after that emotional attack on irving.
it rlly sucks that irving is gone (at least for now) so the explanation for his dream/hallucination may not be unveiled for awhile. like the numbers forming eyes (??) could lean into the theory that the work they’re doing is to program people’s emotions/brains. we already saw with the cold harbor file an image of gemma on mark’s computer in s2e1. seeing burt in another cubicle may imply the theory true that burt and irving once worked together, but said memories were wiped. i’m rlly confused ab the undead lady “half the height of the average woman.” why was she so important that she shows up in irvs dream? (edit: that was woe, forgot) i’ll wait for the smarter fans to theorize ab that.
i was rlly hoping to see more of mark experiencing the effects of reintegration. we just left off on him getting the procedure and his memories meshing together. i get they’re leaving us wanting more but that was the main thing i looked forward to in this episode, and all we really got was a split moment gemma hallucination.
bc mark has been reintegrated, he could find irving outside lumon. and discovering helly is an eagan on the outside, we could see him look into it, and im excited to see devon’s reaction to all of it (if we do get to see that at all).
the whole scene w milchick reading the story to them was really strange and just generally the whole story about kier throughout the episode perplexed me. kier killed his brother?? jerking off in the woods?? idfk… i definitely need to rewatch the episode to focus more on that aspect since i was preoccupied with the interpersonal relationships.
unintellectual rant but needed to get it out. i can’t wait to listen to the next episode of the severance podcast and hearing smarter ppls thoughts on woe’s hollow

So I am writing my Arcane fanfic where the severance procedure takes place in Piltover/Zaun and characters such as Vi, Caitlyn, Jayce and Viktor are severed. After reading @beetleandfox 's post on core characteristics and beliefs in the characters from Severance (e.g. Irving's "desire for meaning and art and spirituality" and Helena's "headstrong and entitled nature"), which talks about how morals and devotion to a cause are socialised in us rather than innate parts of our character, I've been thinking about the core beliefs and characteristics of the Arcane characters. I want to pull together some of the popular analyses of them, and think about how that may translate for their "innies". To me, one of the most interesting ways to build characters is asking: what is this character's core belief? And why is it wrong?
To me, Vi is one of the easiest characters to imagine in a Severance AU, mainly because in Arcane Vi literally spends seven years of her life in prison. She goes in a terrified teenager who has lost everyone she loved, and comes out hardened by tragedy and prison brutality – but she remains a kind, intelligent, caring and trusting person. Severance creates both a physical and mental prison for innies, who are designed purely for labour but are human and therefore need connection. And I think both Vi's outie and innie would be desperate for it.
One of her core beliefs is that she's here to protect and help others. It's why she risks her life again and again for the people she loves, why she can't let Powder go in season 1, why she loses her sense of identity after she's lost both Powder/Jinx and Caitlyn in season 2 act 2, and why staying to help in the commune has such an appeal to her. Similarly, I think her innie would be committed to helping others. I don't think she would find meaning in a god figure that Lumon creates, but instead find meaning in friendships with her coworkers.
Do I think Vi's innie would try to break out when she is first born? Absolutely. But I think that rebellion would be beaten out of her over seven years, much like it is for Mark S. through the torture of the break room. Think about Vi when we first meet her. As @generisydtoo says in their analysis of the prison warden and institutionalised brutality within the prison, Vi is expecting to be beat up when Caitlyn comes to question her and just wants to get it over with. It is only because of Caitlyn's power that she is able to leave, otherwise she may have lived the rest of her life in prison. Vi's innie would be taught that there is no means of escape, and if she were to learn that her outie had severed because she had to work tirelessly from a young age and this corporation gave her the best opportunity to look after her family, I think her innie would accept that. She too only really finds meaning in others. The flaw in this logic is that she will harm herself and others if all she can think about is trying to protect them. Protection is not the same thing as life, peace, justice and satisfaction. Ideas about rebellion would only occur to innie Vi if her friends were in serious danger (which they will be, but I don't want to give away too many spoilers...).
Now if there's any Arcane character who is easy to transpose onto a Severance character, it's Caitlyn. Like Helena Eagen, she is born into power and wealth, is sheltered by her family, and is headstrong in her beliefs. However, Caitlyn is given opportunities to carve her own identity in a way Helena can't, e.g. being allowed to become an incredible marksman, joining the enforcers, not being punished for using her connections to release Vi and solve a mystery in the Undercity but instead being given an opportunity to speak to the Council. That being said, I think Caitlyn's innie would be similar to Helly R.: furious with her outie for imprisoning her in this way, raging against the corporation, desperate for freedom as Helena/Cailtyn is in the outside world.
Caitlyn is such an interesting character in Arcane because she goes from a naive girl guided by her moral compass and black and white thinking, to a jaded woman who becomes so consumed by grief that she believes that the ends (killing Jinx) will justify her means (declaring martial law, using the Grey to hunt the chem barons regardless of the damage it could cause to innocent civilians of the Undercity). It is only when she is forced to face the fact that her actions are immoral, regardless of the end result, that she accepts the total error of her ways.
I think at the core of Caitlyn's character is the belief that her moral compass will guide her to doing the right thing. This belief is obviously flawed and frequently wrong, which is what makes her so compelling to me. In a Severance AU, this may mean that her outie sees no problem with the subjugation of innies, and it means that her innie will see no problem in harming her outie if she cannot have freedom.
I have so many more ideas for this fanfic and cannot wait to flesh out the world-building. I am currently half way through chapter 1 of 7, but with Severance season 2 coming out, the possibilities of this fic feel endless to me. Thank goodness for art.

i just read @shatterstars-world 's post on their severance x arcane fic (you can read it here). Severance and arcane are my biggest hyperfixations atm so I'm just going to give my interpretation of a potential fic idea.
Ok so, in my mind, this is how arcane with the severance plot works (spoilers for both shows under the cut):
Worldbuilding:
So to put it simply, the outside world is Zaun, Lumon is Piltover, and the Board is made up the Piltover council members (and Noxians like Ambessa). Kirramans are the Eagans. Hextech is already invented in this universe by the Kirramans.
The Firelights are the rebel group that oppose Piltover and the severance procedure.
Characters:
For Vi and Caitlyn, I imagine their characters would be the same as what OP stated.
I’d just like to expand on Vi's story for a moment. So in this version, Vi is similar to Outie Mark and Innie Helly. She got the severance procedure after the death of her sister, Powder. I imagine she isn't in a financially stable position either so of course she takes the job. Innie Vi has a viscous hate for Piltover and hates working there. She initially wanted to break out, and did everything she could to succeed, but after the failed attempts and the guidance of the Petey equivalent, she managed to just deal with it with only a few aggressive push backs here and there. However, after Petey’s equivalent ‘quits’ she starts acting out more like she did in the beginning.
Caitlyn (or Caitie R) is similar to Outie Helena and Innie Mark. However, I like to think her strategic and calculating nature is more under the radar, especially when compared to Vi’s very clear opposition. Vi thinks she’s a sell out at first but Caitie wants to uncover Piltover’s secrets and hates working for them just as much as Vi does, she’s just more dL about it. I reckon the Milchick equivalent even makes her department head pretty quickly. She would be absolutely be appalled to discover that her Outie is a Kirraman, just like Helly with the Eagans.
Ok moving on to our other two MDR workers, Ekko and Jayce.
For Ekko, I'm putting him in a mix of the role of Outie Irving/ Innie Dylan here. So Outie Ekko is part of the Firelights and joined Piltover to try and take them down from the inside. His Innie however, is just trying to make the most of it and works really hard to get the perks, etc. I was inspired by how Ekko in the main arcane universe is a fighter because he kind of has to be, but in the AU universe, he's more of an artsy, chill dude, because he's in a better environment.
Jayce here is the role of Outie Dylan and Innie Irving. So, his outie took the role partly to take care of his sick mother, and partly because he is very interested in Piltover's inventions/Hextech, but is is still a little critical of the company. He's just desperate, okay! Anyways, his innie, is absolutely obsessed with the company, kinda like innie irving.
Ok now, here is where I am diverting a lot from the severance character. Mel here would be Natalie's counterpart, the media representative for Piltover. She's not such a suck up to the board like Natalie is though, and I imagine she genuinely tries to make a difference. She's also a bigger character, and regularly visits the severance floor to check up on the workers. I imagine Jayce forms a crush on her (and she starts to like him back lol). Additionally, she's very big on progress. She has left Noxus and her mother and tries very hard to make Piltover different than how her mother ruled Noxus, little does she know that her mother might have a little more influence on the board than she initially realised.
Viktor is Burt from Optics and Design. He chose to get severed for the health benefits/take Piltover down/whatever Burt's reasons are. I imagine his relationship with Jayce would help radicalise Jayce into seeing Piltover for what it really is. I don't know if I wanna go the Jayvik or Meljay route here but we'll see.
Sky works with Viktor in Optics and Design and would be in the role of Felicia.
Heimerdinger is Mr Milchick. (idk how to spell either of their names lol). Not many notes here, I think it works.
Jinx is in the role of Ms Casey. Except how Ms Casey is pretty monotone and calm, Jinx is,,, well she's jinx. No one understands why she's the wellness person, until the reveal that she's actually Vi's dead sister, Powder, and Piltover is working on their crazy experimentation. Also Jinx hates Caitie R.
Silco is in the position of Ms Cobel. Now, I imagine if the firelights and the anti piltover zaunites knew, they would say he's a sell-out, but they don't, and he claims this is for the betterment of zaun. Really though, he's just doing his weird experimentations to see if Vi and Jinx remember each other. He keeps tabs on Vi in the real world under his very own Mrs Selvig persona. Also, I imagine on the severed floor he and Jinx have some sort inappropriate relationship so maybe the other workers think she's some sort of Nepo hire lol.
Sevika is Grainer.
Mylo and Claggor are Devon and Ricken (yes they are alive in this universe).
Isha is Miss Huang. A literal child lol. It would make for interesting dynamics.
Singed is Reghabi.
Petey is Vandor. I imagine New Innie Vi really looked up to him. Also i think this role fits as Vandor kind of got 'severed' in the og show when he became a wolf. Also, I imagine that Silco and Outie Vandor new each other so some interesting dynamics there!
Maddie is Alexa (the girl Mark goes on a date with). Except in this version, she's a spy for the board, kinda like Maddie was revealed to be a Noxian spy. She hooks up with Vi (maybe even under Outie Caitlyn's command or just the board -- I haven't decided yet).
Yikes this was so long! Well I hope this was enjoyable to read to the one or two other people who are interested in severance x arcane fics lmao.
