Today, we remember Vikram Gokhale, who passed away on November 26, 2022. A renowned actor in Marathi theatre, Hindi films, and television, he was the son of veteran actor Chandrakant Gokhale. Born in Pune in 1945, Gokhale came from a family of cinema pioneers, including his great grandmother Durgabai Kamat, the first female actor of Indian screen, and grandmother Kamlabai Gokhale, the first female child actor in Indian cinema.

Gokhale's directorial debut came with the Marathi film 'Aaghaat' in 2010. He received the National Film Award for Best Actor for 'Anumati.' Married to Vrushali since 1975, they had two daughters, Asawari and Neha. Gokhale was also a successful real estate businessman and a committed social activist, supporting disabled soldiers, children of lepers, and orphan education through his family's foundation.

Retiring from stage due to a throat ailment in 2016, he continued his film career until his last days. Gokhale passed away at 77 in Pune, leaving a legacy in Indian cinema and theatre.

During the start of his career, Salman Khan acted in the love story titled Love where he was cast opposite Revathy. Directed by Suresh Krissna, the film also starred Amjad Khan, Shafi Inamdar, Suhas Joshi and Rita Bhaduri. More than a decade later, Salman and Revathy crossed paths again in Phir Milenge (2004). But this time, Revathy was his director, along with a co-star, in the film that also starred Abhishek Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty.

Looking back at her bond with Salman and the making of Phir Milenge, Revathy told Bollywood Hungama exclusively that working with him was very easy because there is mutual respect. “Salman has always given me a lot of love and respect,” she said. “He accepted Phir Milenge in like two days. He heard it and he was like, ‘Aap direct kar rahe hain toh main kar loonga’ (If you are directing the film, I will do it). It was so nice.”

Recalling the shoot, Revathy added, “He was so amazing. He had to shoot for 5-6 days. He was absolutely very cooperative and giving. Once he comes on the sets, you feel like there is a lot of life.”

Revathy will be reuniting with Salman later this year in the keenly awaited Tiger 3. Speaking about Salman’s stature in the film industry right now, she said, “That (Phir Milenge) was in 2004. Abhi toh bohat bade star ho gaye hain (Now he has become a very big star). It is very nice to see the growth of a person you like.”

Phir Milenge dealt with the issue of HIV and AIDS. It told the story of a woman who gets fired from her job after her company realizes that she is HIV positive.

This year, Revathy is also gearing up for the release of Jagjivan Ki Patni Ka Teesra Pyar. Directed by Rajesh Bachchani, the movie sees her cast opposite the late veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who passed away in last November

Bail granted to Saket Gokhale in misappropriation of funds case: Supreme Court

17 April, 2023

On April 17, 2023 (Today), the Supreme Court bench granted bail to TMC (Trinamool Congress) Spokesperson Saket Gokhale in relation to a misappropriation of funds case. Gokhale approached the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court’s order that denied bail in a case related to the misappropriation of funds collected through crowdfunding.  The bench hearing the matter was Justice Vikram Nath and Justice BR Gavai. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed the top Court that the TMC spokesperson was in jail for 108 days. He was arrested on December 30th by the Ahmedabad Cybercrime branch from Delhi.  Gokhale was alleged of collecting Rs. 72 lakhs from more than 1,700 persons via the crowdfunding platform ‘our democracy’ and misused the money for personal matters.

Supreme Court constitutes special bench for hearing recognition of same-sex marriage petitions: Bench to hear pleas from April 18.

To hear the bunch of petitions that seek legal recognition for same-sex marriage, the Supreme Court of India constitutes a special bench. On March 13, 2023, a three-judge bench of the top Court consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice PS Narasimha referred the case to the Constitution bench. The members of the Constitution bench include CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice Ravindra Bhat, Justice Kishan Kaul, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice Hima Kohli. The constituted Constitution bench will start hearing the petitions on recognition of same-sex marriage from April 18, 2023. 

The batch of petitions to be addressed by the Constitution bench challenge the provisions of the Foreign Marriage Act, Special Marriage Act, and Hindu Marriage Act as they do not recognize same-sex marriages. While arguing regarding the state interest in recognizing only heterosexual marriages, the centre said “Statutory recognition of marriage limited to marriage/union/relation as being heterosexual in nature, is the norm throughout history and are foundational to both the existence and continuance of the State.” Along with this, the Centre also argued that due to the non-recognition of same-sex marriage, no fundamental rights were breached under Part III of the Indian Constitution.
