After playing the first part of the Archon Quest, I gotta say that representation is bad, but ultimately any attempt to change it will end in a nothingburger. There will be some political and economic discussion from this point on.
I mean, there’s something so sad it’s funny when the whitest guy in Teyvat says “Hi, my name is Kwame”. The petition reached over 100k signatures and some people even boycotted it; some people even taught others to send directly to the Chinese government office. I don’t think that will work because are the people requesting this part of the main demographic (urban Chinese young adults)?
Representation is a tricky thing – I’ve wrote in this blog that, if I was presented the option to either have bad representation of my culture (Brazilian, Paulista) or none at all, I would rather not answer this question. This isn’t a thing that can be replied with a “yes” or “no”. I mean, I know orientalism, not as deeply as I should, but I wonder if when Edward Saïd first proposed this concept, I wonder if he actually touched upon something deeper than just orienting and structuring Eastern cultures around the West’s.
The problem is that orientalism has been a fundamental part of analysis involving the Global South and how to overcome this giant globalization system where there is a compression of space and time. Local stories and folklore used to be more prevalent because they mattered for the locality; only through expansion these stories were more known. And, recently, people have become more aware of cultural appropriation. But, again, this is recent; I'm pretty sure if you prospect ancient sources, you’ll find someone complaining about what we can interpret as cultural appropriation, but this has only become a part of the conversation because it acquired an economic dimension – cultural appropriation is bad because the privileged use the underprivileged culture to profit off it.
The privilege is so big that there’s an imbalance. Can you culturally appropriate New York culture? Do you see any Western European complaining about representation in light novels? Maybe there’s some weird nationalists who protest, but the average “Western” doesn’t seem to care, even they might even enjoy with how bad and inaccurate depictions of cowboys and Vikings are elsewhere. In fact, there’s even a term called “occidentalism” and the isekai boom in anime has origins in this, especially Familiar of Zero, that portrays a pseudo-medieval Europe that needs to be enlightened and rescued by the Japanese protagonist. The author even took real inspiration for Louise of a historical figure that he thought suffered an unjust fate (if you’re interested, read “Fantasies of Europe, fantasies of Japan: Isekai and the narrative logic of Japanese Occidentalism” by Scott Ma). It’s politically and historically hilarious because some would say the West is getting what they deserve, until you remember that Japan also has a story of attempts of hegemony and imperialism.
It must be remembered that East Asia has a long-lived writing tradition. Some would say the 11th century Tale of Genji is the first novel ever. Chinese writing is also very established. They have a lot to draw from and also prejudices – anyone who studies knows that colorism is a big problem in East and South Asia. This might be a reason why there’s so many white people (though it’d be more accurate to classify them mukokouseki, the nationless people that inhabit anime) in Genshin. Putting a fully black playable character would raise questions from its primary demographic.
Natlan itself took inspiration from pre-Columbian America and East Africa, but I also saw influence from Hawaiian and Pacific Islander cultures. The problem was already in the beginning, because these cultures have little do with each other. What was the point? To represent all pre-Columbian peoples? Natlan seems to have suffered the worse of the Abyss invasion and its traits make it harder to disperse the Abyss, but the truly stupid thing is the reason why we aren’t shown people from Natlan in other countries: because they don’t want; even if you say they want to remain in Natlan and reconstruct, it’s stupid and gives the vibe of “indigenous reservation”.
The culture does have some interesting ideas, with them being more carefree (I honestly think the graffiti everywhere to be charming). Its economy seems to be self-sustaining, with services like hotels, restaurants (granted every nation is very self-sustaining, with the possible exception of Szezhnaya, which has to import a lot of things, which makes the Fatui actions more stupid than ever). Even the technology seems up to date with the average Teyvat nation, just look at Kachina’s drilling device (though it was mentioned they still abandoned very sick infants, with Chasca’s backstory).
The people aren’t accurate, but a lot of inaccuracy is intended, because it’s supposed to be a fantasy world, where there are inspirations from the real world, but it’s recognizable as its own thing. It’s just that the vibe for Natlan is just “modern tribal” (if I remember correctly, anthropologists currently recommend avoid using “tribe”, but this isn’t as divulged). Each nation has this vibe: Mondstadt is fantasy Hong Kong, with a vaguely Central European aesthetic; Liyue is China, so miHoyo would want to make it more accurate; Inazuma is, aside from Watatsumi being Okinawa, standard stereotypical anime Japan (so much it’s considered the worst story so far); Sumeru is much more problematic because it used a land strip from Morocco to East India as inspiration and it has the same problems as Natlan (since it was most focused on its fantasy cyberpunk story); Fontaine is truly fantasy France; Szezhnaya is Russia, but I hope they don’t put all Slavs into one (like Warhammer Fantasy did with Kislev, and that’s another can of worms). So Natlan stands out as a mishmash that just have too many things.
Mavuika looks cool, but that’s it (to the point I think her coolness is more generic than anything). Her biker outfit looks so out of place, even for a fantasy world. There’s absolutely nothing, besides her pointy accessories that remember, even vaguely, the cultural inspiration for Natlan. It wouldn’t be a problem if all the other archons represented their cultures: Venti is a fantasy twink Jesus-analogue bard; Zhongli is a standard manhua hot guy (so tending more to mukoukuseki); Ei is a dark magical girl shogun; Nahida is…I don’t know, a genie?; the Tsaritsa, well, the name is obvious. Other Natlan characters are also like that, there isn’t much that reminds them of “tribal” and more like urban lower-class neighborhood, especially when compared to other playable characters (like what is Chasca design? Is she a cowgirl? Is she supposed to be what if a flying dinosaur was human (following her backstory)?). I want to avoid the criticism that playable characters are overdesigned, because even if that’s a bit true – I have never seen a critique in good faith in this site –, it’s not clear what the designers wanted with them, so I don’t think they stand out compared to the characters from other nations (though I do think Mualani is my favorite).
The biggest issue is that culture is treated like picking different fruits from different trees. Genshin designers picked different traits for their nations as if picking fruits from different trees. I could recognize many of these fruits (like acarajé, a typical food from the state of Bahia, which incidentally is the state with the biggest Black population in Brazil), that are a novelty to Genshin’s primary demographic. It gives them the same effect that putting armadillos (a common Brazilian mammal) in 1920s movies, to give them a sense of entering another world. But some trees are different from others and it’s clear that they don’t understand how some trees work.
I mean, this is nothing new in similar games (like the South American lostbelt in FGO, when it became clear Nasu has no idea of how Latin America works and wanted to tell other stories). Fontaine feels like a fantasy France, from its backstory to its soundtrack. But it is like that because French culture has a large diffusion throughout the world - everyone can name a French novel or song that they like, so there was much more that Chinese writers could work with – everyone knows how Jules Verne is, his stories have enchanted many generations in the entire world. But how many East African authors can you cite? The fact that I have to single out an entire region instead of just a country tells a lot. So, how interested are Chinese or Japanese writers in East African literature compared to French literature? I can say this because I’m pretty sure the answer wouldn’t be different in Brazil.
In looking for vibes, something might be lost. Farya Faraji, an ethnolinguist, made a pretty good documentary “Orientalism: Desert Level Music vs Actual Middle-Eastern Music” in YouTube. But a thing that called my attention is that the documentary agreed that “orientalist” music can be good music. That really complicates everything. We want to “consume” (I personally dislike using this term related to art, so I put in quotation marks) the best artistic experience, but between a good artistic experience and an accurate one, what would you prefer?
Playing Genshin is also playing the currently most successful Chinese cultural product. So, it is also a way to see how a part of their population sees the world. The same can be said by other games, such as FGO, which is interesting as how a Japanese otaku sees the world history. If there are biases, of course there are – just look at the massive controversy that it started, but this is only controversial outside China (as far as I know). Does the average Chinese Genshin player care about this issue? And, when I look at Brazil, it’s not that different. It had the same issues – I remember from Monica’s Gang comics in the 90s, they were full of stereotypes about foreigners, and a lot of Brazilian media uses similar things.
If you study the history of representation in a country like the United States, you’ll see that demands of representation came from the less represented. See the Marvel comic book Master of Kung Fu, which became the Shang-chi movie later. It was one important moment of Chinese-American representation, but it still used yellow peril tropes, like Fu Manchu. There was a Billy Wu that wrote every time about these issues and a great discussion happened in the letters section (later, Wu became an award-winning novelist), but insistence played an important role (see All the Marvels, by Douglas Wolk). The point is that representation in American media only became better due to pressure from non-represented citizens. Is there anything similar in Chinese society? I know that China is very diverse country, with many ethnicities such as Han, Cantonese, Manchu, Mongol, Uighur, Tibetan and they have a lot of conflicts, but, since we just “consume” the end product, we aren’t aware of how this works. They have to tend to their own consumer market. We can be thankful for when they get foreign cultures right, but we live in a world that thankfulness isn’t enough to pay the bills.
We have no idea of what foreign cultures are and representation can easily become a take-no-survivors zero-sum game – Faraji had to spend a lot of minutes explaining you can enjoy different cultures without being orientalist; should this be something normal to warn about? American cultural hegemony is a fact of modern life, because they have a cultural industry that produce hundreds of cultural products yearly AND the capacity to distribute them, which is arguably more important the former. I’m going to say something controversial that, while I don’t deny that there’s a lot of problem in the US, especially with its racism and imperialism, we are lucky the US is a very diverse country so at least there’s more representation potential (the only country that could pull off something similar is Brazil, if it had a bigger cultural industry, but it also has problems with systemic racism).
Stories are complicated. Why does the majority of characters that you might find relatable have nothing in common with you, in terms of names and appearance? Why are you more interested in “consuming” media produced elsewhere than in your home country? I mean, if you’re American or Japanese, the answer is different, but the point remains that representation isn’t the only thing a person is interested in a story. And I don’t want to be read as judgmental, even if I somehow managed to make you feel bad (which, again, is not my intention), I’m pretty sure you’d forget and continue doing the same, unless you are easily influenceable and I recommend building your self-esteem. Brazil has the advantage of being a large and populous country (and handicapped by its mutt syndrome), so a potentially large consumer market, but what of a country like Paraguay or Uganda? They do have their own cultural production, but they have much lower access to distribution channels. So, these people claiming for representation seem to have no idea of how big the effort is for a cultural product (like a novel) from a culturally irrelevant, from a worldwide point of view, is to make it big, when you could simply invest in a “winning strategy”.
Animation is a big example. I’m a fan of animation and anime especially, but I know animation is costly. For a country without animation industry, getting something finish is hard and potentially bankruptive – this is why every Brazilian animated movie has a lot of sponsors, including from the government. But the US and Japan have a different problem: they have to produce so much so that a fraction of it returns profits (I read once that only a fourth of season anime can be considered “successful”; also this is a reason why a lot of otaku-pandering trash gets animated, simply because they have much bigger chances of religiously buying their merch and give profits to the companies). And, due to the high number of products, at least some of them will fancy consumers worldwide because representation isn’t everything. But are their creators obliged to cater to these audiences worldwide? I saw the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen explaining that only mages appear in Japan because of “something weird” there, which is a polite way to say he’s just not interested in telling a story outside Japan. That didn’t stop a shrine dedicated to one of its characters emerge in a metro station in Santiago, Chile.
I’ve seen a lot of people in tumblr going to the inbox of certain artists and asking them to draw people in the style they want. Invariably, the answer is a variation of “I’m not interested, why don’t you do it?” In a better world, that would be a standard option, having different animations from different countries, and not just concentrated in two or three centers. But, due to a lot of factors that won’t happen so soon. So, the only chance for a culture to be represented is to act like the ending of the CATS movie (I just watched a few reviews, that movie seems to be really bad, but the metaphor is perfect): making noise about themselves so one of them can jump in the boat and to the afterlife or something, achieve their objectives.
What if the creators of these centers aren’t interested? You have to wait until a creator develops a special interest in one culture and convince the ones in charge that their story will be profitable. I saw this happening with Brazilian culture: Mangaka no Favela involved a Japanese author with a genuine interest in Brazil and its stories (he got inspired by City of God, which is one of the most famous Brazilian movies) and talked to a lot of Brazilians in twitter to make something that showed his appreciation, even learning Portuguese – that didn’t stop people complaining here about being a white man syndrome thing, which shows that criticism can be close-minded if not well-thought and acting from a place of prejudice in its most literal sense (pre-judice, judging too early). In contrast, there was that light novel of the Japanese guy with fetish for Latinas who used ChatGPT to name her stereotypical heroine, that came from the Amazon, and that story sounds like something that would be the beginning of a story in the criminal section in a newspaper about sexual tourism, muito escroto as they would say here. This shows that something accurate requires effort – all good art requires a lot of effort, but some things require more effort than others and researching foreign cultures is one of them.
My personal theory why Genshin is like that is because it was planned in late 2000s-early 2010s. The BRICS emerged as a discussion and alternative to the Western economic model. I remember very well how everywhere they were in academic discussions, so it seeped into popular culture, including Genshin writers, so they decided to have Sumeru and Natlan. But they realized how different they were and little they knew about their cultures and difficulty to access things besides Wikipedia articles (granted Wikipedia is banned in China), so they decided to mishmash everything. Now, in the 2020s, the BRICS are an international joke, because they realize they’d rather sell their best products to the Global North than to each other (they did expand recently, but the only benefit of participating of the BRICS group is that you can tell others that).
This also shows that the Global South is just as (un)interested in other cultures as the Global North. The only reason why the Global South (and many countries of the Global North) are so accepting of cultural products from the US and Japan is because they have no other choice: they’re the ones with most appealing techniques (especially in animation) and better channels of distributions, to the point average people would prefer foreign than national stories. Good luck trying to find a sci-fi or fantasy book written by Brazilian authors in a bookstore; you can find, but you have to go the extra mile, and it’ll be far from the most visible aisles.
This is why the protests about representation in Genshin will likely not work. The Chinese are telling a story for the Chinese and unless the Chinese public demand better representation or foreigners manage to somehow influence their culture. The best way to do that would be putting more foreign media in China, so that they can be more familiar with other cultures and avoid orientalist-like pitfalls (so that we have more Fontaine and less Natlan), because a petition like that would only give the idea foreigners are upset, but that’s nothing new for the average Chinese that has to deal with news of problems in the Indian border, the South China Sea claims, Taiwan and the commercial conflicts with the US.
Lastly, this text was written to show why Natlan isn’t a dealbreaker for me (because I’m part of the “problem”, I am writing an isekai involving Japanese characters, because the story I want to tell is this one, because I want to write my own novel). For some people, it surely was and there’s nothing I can do about it. But one thing I can say: art is realizing you can do whatever you want; there is no obligation of art from making the world a better place (in fact, it’s possible that some pieces of art have made the world a worse place), though that often happens. It is true that you have to deal with the consequences of doing whatever you want, but few times artists think of the consequences in the initial stage (this is why editors are important, because art that makes the world worse constantly have no one to tell them to think twice or they’re ignored).
I actually broke the character limit, so I'll continue in the next post.
Playing the new Genshin expansion. I will write my thoughts and rambles that were accumulated during the entire controversy. I wanted to play it by myself to complete my opinion. I can say in advance that lots of my lowest expectations weren't met and that things aren't as bad as it seems, paradoxically.

So, theory on God of War 6 and subsequently endgame God of War: Ragnarok spoilers below the cut
The way I see it, there's two ways to go now after Ragnarok:
We follow Kratos to Egypt, either as a sequel to Ragnarok or a midquel as I'm pretty sure there's a comic of Kratos going to Egypt after God of War 3 and before he ends up in Midgard. Not entirely sure what the plot would be, but considering at least one of the original ideas for the God of War trilogy was to have a single game set in Greece, Scandinavia and Egypt respectively* I think Egypt is a clear shoe-in for a game at some point.
We follow Atreus to Ireland. We know Atreus is going to new lands to find the Jotnar that fled Odin, and of the lands mentioned in Tyr's temple and shrine in God of War 4 (Egypt, Ireland, Japan and one of the Mesoamerican religions, presumably Aztec) the only race of giants from another land I can think of** is the pop culture understanding of the Fomorians from Irish mythology. Which, if they do go there, would be oddly clever? Considering there's a school of thought in some academic circles that the invasion of the Fomorians as the monks recorded it is heavily influenced by the Viking raids of Ireland in the 7-800s, so having them be an offshoot of the Jotnar would actually work, weirdly enough? Also, it'd give you a chance to shoot Lugh in the dick, and I may not know much about Irish mythology but I know that if you get the chance to shoot Lugh in the dick, you take it.
*and then the protagonists of those games would turn out to be the Wise Men from the Nativity story, which I'd be eternally pissed about but it would be almost worth it to hear Christopher Judge awkwardly give over some gold to Baby Jesus.
**which, don't take that as gospel, if the 'presumably Aztec' thing didn't give it away I'm horrifically uninformed when it comes to the various Mesoamerican mythologies!

Xan/Vani

Queer
This is a sideblog. If I interact from my main no I don’t :)
About:
I suffer from extreme paranoia and anxiety, so Xan and Vani aren’t names that I actually use. If you see me using my real name at any point, no you don’t :) If you see me interacting from my main, idk who that person is totally not me :)
I’m disabled (physically and mentally, and I refuse to elaborate on this) and my energy and attention is all over the place. I may leave this blog for seven months without a word for no reason and then come back to completely spam the dash for eight days for no discernible reason. It’s how it be sometimes.
I appreciate clear communication since I don’t always understand implications. I can usually tell tone pretty well but all the same if you use tone indicators you are an MVP.
Do not ask me about anything invasive (orientation, gender, location, my name, my appearance, ethnicity, nationality, etc.) because I will not answer. This is both because of my mental health and because you are not at all entitled to know that information. If you feel like you are, that’s on you, and I recommend that you block me. I refuse to divulge any more information than I already have.
BYF/DNI:
I don’t have a DNI. It doesn’t really stop anyone from following me or interacting with me if someone wants to, but all the same, please be polite and respect my boundaries and I’ll do the same for you. Obviously if I break your DNI (or equivalent, I guess?), please let me know. If you interact with me and I’m not following/interacting with you but I break your DNI, I’ll give you a heads up and you can decide where to go from there.
I don’t appreciate people claiming that foster/step/adopted/etc family aren’t “real” family. This is the only hard rule I’ll put down because I assume everyone else who would break my DNI would be immediately blocked on sight anyways. If you claim non-bio family isn’t “real” family, you are, in fact, a piece of fucking shit and I will break your kneecaps. You know those people exist and can hear you invalidating their family, right? It’s an assholish thing to do and I want nothing to do with you. Send me hate over this if you want, but it’d really just seal the fact you’re an asshole in stone.
That’s all the hostility I have for that, but obviously if you think we’re not going to get along, just block me. Save us both some time and peace of mind, I guess.

𝔯𝔢𝔪𝔢𝔪𝔟𝔢𝔯 𝔪𝔢 𝔣𝔬𝔯 𝔠𝔢𝔫𝔱𝔲𝔯𝔦𝔢𝔰 [nct collab call]
take a look inside the chapters of this history book and read of several events spanning across all of human civilization. read about people from all walks of life: great heroes, legendary foes, daring outlaws, ordinary people. read about the rise and fall of empires, conspiring courts, the rise and fall of empires, forbidden alliances and romances. in fact, dear reader, don’t just read. learn from the past, because if we don’t, we are doomed to repeat it.
𝖋𝖔𝖗𝖊𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖉
in lieu of hitting 500 followers, i’ve decided to announce this collaboration!! i’ve always loved history so why not? some of these eras are specific to certain cultures and places, but others are a lot broader. at the end of the day, they’re your stories. also if you saw me post this on accident the first time... no you didn’t <3
𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖞𝖔𝖚𝖗 𝖈𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊𝖗𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓
this is a historical au collaboration, but any genre is allowed as long as your story is set in your chosen era! however, smut is not allowed for jisung or if you, the writer, are underage.
all works must be member x reader. love triangles and the like are allowed, but the main male character must be the member you chose.
eras and members are chosen on a first come, first served basis. please message me if you want to participate! if your main blog isn’t your writing blog, please be sure to tell me your writing blog so i can add it to this list correctly :)
you must have discord, since i will be sending all writers working on this collaboration a discord server link. there, i will send announcements and we can all give each other feedback!
tag any triggering content. if you’re not sure, ask in the discord server!
research is definitely encouraged as you will be writing about historical eras, some with specific cultural significance! please be respectful of any cultures or traditions you write about.
in the same vein, don’t romanticize any historical events or figures that are controversial, or have had negative cultural impact (ie, 9/11, the crusades, colonialism). again, if you’re not sure, ask in the discord server!
minimum word count is 2k. your words cannot be blurbs or timestamps.
please inform me if: you’re changing your url, you’re going on hiatus, or if you need to leave the collaboration.
the deadline is currently november 2021, but it is very flexible and can be pushed back even further should several writers ask!
after you’re added, i would really appreciate it if you reblogged this post to boost its reach :D

#okay but also consider (and i'm not SUPER familiar with asoiaf regions so i might have this wrong) but consider the reach is italy#and molly dresses in her husband lovino's colors
You're correct in saying that, the Reach gives very strong Renaissance Italy and France vibes. This was my prompt to sort people. This also means I'm going to end up drawing this AU in the future now that I have an excuse haha
The North- Arctic climate where people tend to feel more separate from the Southern kingdoms and have a more unique culture compared to other kingdoms
Russia
Ukraine
Belarus
Mongolia
Romania
Moldova
The Iron Islands- Basically Vikings but if we thought they subsisted only on raiding (I really don't like the Iron Islands so I may honest to God ignore them and sort these five into the North or pretend the Iron Islands are a little better than in canon)
Denmark
Norway
Sweden
Finland
Iceland
The Vale- Mountainous kingdom that tends to stay out of conflict, but has a strong reputation for its knights and impenetrable walls
Austria
Switzerland
Prussia
Germany
Liechtenstein
The Riverlands- Fertile kingdom with a lot of waterways always caught in the middle between warring powers
Lithuania
Latvia
Estonia
Poland
Hungary
Czechia
Slovakia
Bulgaria
The Westerlands- Kingdom that made its money through trade and gold mines, has reputation for being a little shady in business dealings and the ambition of its houses
Netherlands
Belgium
Luxembourg
The Reach- The breadbasket of the kingdoms, exerts a lot of soft power and tends to make a lot of marriage alliances, also where the Faith of the Seven was started
Veneziano
Romano
France
The Stormlands- Stormy kingdom with rocky terrain that rely on sea trade, frequently deal with southern invasions, and have a strong martial tradition
England,
Scotland
Wales
Ireland
Northern Ireland
The Crownlands- Essentially the land under direct control of the royal family, where the Targaryens in the og series based their power after invading Westeros fleeing from the ruin of Old Valyria
China,
Japan
Taiwan
Hong Kong
Macau
India
Dorne- Dorne is directly based on Moorish Spain, used to be frequently in conflict with the Reach and the Stormlands over territory, very sunny and more arid than the other kingdoms
Spain
Portugal
Turkey
Greece
I'm gonna ask, since you've drawn Molly in dresses from HotD have you ever consider a Game of Thrones AU?
I’ve considered it! I probably wouldn’t do an AU where the plot is directly copied, however I’ve thought about them in the setting (or a similar medieval fantasy setting). I’d probably base it a little more off the books though because they’re what I’m more familiar with, and we all know the show went downhill pretty quick after season 4.
It’s funny that I’ve drawn her in the colors associated more with House Hightower and the Reach, when in actuality I think the British Isles fam would be more likely to be a Baratheon-esque house from the Stormlands. Especially with the sibling dynamics they have going on and their general demeanor (Stannis and Renly you will always be famous). Now that you’ve brought it up I’m actually thinking a little more about making an AU haha.

Wait, did you all get taught history of imperialism in schools?
Is this sarcasm ? 😐 if not, how did they teach the discovery of the american continent in your country ?
In my country we were fed propaganda, I live in the capitalist hellscape capital of the world.
Sure, Christopher Columbus discovered america by accident while looking for spices, even after vikings were there earlier, but that was a happy accident of course! How lucky for history that he fucked up so bad. And naturally, the whole problem of european nations setting colonies was solved when those colonies became independent, naturally. Now they are their own countries and we're all so happy that america and those south american places exist. And then those brave settlers, the pioneers happened, and they went through such hardship to establish this whole great nation. Yaay.
Sure we the teacher mentioned that the Trail of Tears happened, (though they only called it by that name once) but it wasn't like the natives were rounded up and killed or anything. No, the president just asked them to move, that's all. No harm done.
What's that? World history? Well sure, we learned about world wars 1 and 2. How america wanted to remain pacifistic until japan and germany forced their hand, so they came to be the heroes of D-Day. And then, with a heavy heart, the U.S. president used nuclear bombs against Japan, but the Japanese were so strong willed, if he hadn't then even more lives would probably have been lost in the invasion, right? So really, it was for the greater good.
And everyone liked happily ever after. The end.
That's what I learned in history class. I even believed it, for a year or two, until I started obsessively fact checking things I heard on the internet and started using tumblr, and had a gay english teacher who taught us about McCarthyism in preparation for The Crucible, and had us read The Bluest Eye to understand representation. And most Americans don't do that. Most Americans I know, they stand for the pledge like proper Patriots, because we are so lucky to have this nation, this wonderful blend of cultures where anyone can come and escape their past, right? That's the story of history, right?
That's what thousands of kids across America are taught. So yeah, they have to ask "Uh, did Europe do something problematic?"

Sony made a huge comeback last year with its much-awaited PlayStation 5. With the launch of the next-gen console, gamers eagerly waited to experience what this console had to offer. What better way than to play some exciting PS5 games on the same.
There are plenty of games that can be played on the PS5 that includes some older PS4 games, newly released games and PS5 exclusives. However, going through all of them and choosing something that may or may not suit your gaming taste, can be pretty challenging.
So, we are back to your rescue.
This list has something for everyone. From family fun adventures to first-person shooting thrillers, this list exists to satiate all your gaming needs.
Also, all these PS5 games are tested (enjoyed) by all the gaming enthusiasts in our team. And are highly recommended for you to try and buy as well.
List of PS5 games that need to be in your library as soon as possible:
Astro’s Playroom
The first game on the list is for everyone in the family to enjoy and get excited over. This game is pre-installed in a lot of PlayStation versions. Now, this says a lot about the popularity and reliability of this game.
This game follows around a small and cute robot as they travel and go on an adventure in different worlds. This robot is from PSVR’s Astro Bot Rescue Mission and gives you a very happy and go to feel. This positive and friendly game explore different features of the new console including the DualSense Controllers that Sony has been so much proud of.
Astro tries on different suits in a different world that highlight various features of the new generation controller. For example, the monkey suit lets the player explore the adaptive triggers on the controllers. The game is full of PlayStation history and will definitely leave you with a smile and warm feeling.
2.Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
This game celebrates and brings Nordic folklore to anyone who wishes to experience the wonder of that era. Assassin Creed Valhalla is the 12th instalment in the series and uncovers an untouched area, 873 AD. The Vikings invasion of the British empire is specifically highlighted here.
Our protagonist, the Viking clan leader Eivor is a very interesting and amazing character to play. Eivor finds themselves amidst the fight between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar.
Eivor then enters the Anglo-Saxon region and fights with all their might. What makes the game even more fun and adventurous is the huge and diverse collection of weaponry, fighting gears, and so much more. Eivor is presented with the opportunity of upping and improving their skills and abilities throughout the game.
The game consists of completing several missions, battles and other optional missions. The players can also return to the main area, where they can rest and know more about the English and Viking culture.
Overall, this game is completely action-packed with stunning visuals to match up the hype around the Assassin Creed’s series.
3.Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Now, this needs no introduction, however, let us convince you more as to what this game can do and why it should be in your cart as soon as possible.
Call of Duty returns with this power-packed installation the Black Ops Cold War. Many reviewers of this explosive game have noted that playing this game gave them an experience similar to watching a high budget Hollywood action movie. Now that definitely says something about the game.
This single-player game revolves around exploring the Cold War of the 80s. The story of the game begins with a group of agents being assigned to follow two individuals that were involved in the Iran hostage crisis. However, later it is discovered that someone named ‘Perseus’ was responsible for the much-known crisis. So, the president decides to form a special op force to capture this individual. Our playable character named ‘Bell’ is among the special task force.
This shooter game will want you to showcase your fabulous gunplay and combat skills. No doubt, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has one of the most gripping storylines in the series.
4.Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Another power-packed installation of Marvel’s Spider-Man series follows Miles Morales another teenager who is bitten by a genetically engineered spider. Rings a bell? Yes, very similar to Peter Parker. And just like him, our protagonist Miles also develops and gains powers similar to those of our resident superhero Spiderman.
As the story continues, it is seen that Miles is still getting accustomed to their new life as a superhero. However, for some reason, Peter Parker had to move overseas and our player is left alone to protect and save the city.
Miles is seen facing so many super-strong villains including the Rhino, the Underworld, The Tinkerer and much more alone.
With stunning visuals, super moves and fun missions, this installation can easily pass as the best super-hero PS5 game of the year.
5.Demon’s Souls
Straight from the SIE Japan Studios and Bluepoint Games, Demon’s Soul is a fantastic remake of one of the most challenging and beautiful game titles in the entire PS5 games series.
This PS5 exclusive is known to be a very alluring game with its compelling and tough battles, satisfying moments and so much more.
The storyline involves a fantasy world named Boletaria. This bleak world was attacked by a very powerful being famously known as the Old One. With this, the entire world was covered in deep fog and almost entirely consumed by the powerful being. Even though it was completely destroyed, Old One was put into sleep, thus the world is saved. However, this didn’t last long as the Old One was awoken from its sleep. The players enter the world with the intent to save it and defeat the powerful villain.
The game is worthy to be in your cart due to its out of the world graphics and visuals coupled with a compelling storyline and interesting action options.
In Conclusion:
Honestly, we can assure you that every single game mentioned in the above list has something to excite and satiate every gamer. Also, these are just a few games that you can blindly put your faith in for an amazing gaming experience.
There are also a lot of upcoming PS5 games that are worth looking forward to. To know more about them, visit our website HG World, where we post such informative blogs and articles daily to keep you updated. So, what are you waiting for come meet us!

Emre Ekmekci is a a senior character artist at ‘Sucker Punch’, in this piece he has created a model of “Jin Sakai” from ghost of Tsushima. Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4. Featuring an open world, it follows a samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. I like this certain piece of art due to the detailing on the 3D art. Emre has used a Digital 3D art to create this character, which will then be animated to fit certain movements, such as a sword swing. Overall I think this is a brilliant piece that makes the game so artistic, all of the fine individual details, scratches, dents and much more.
Lixin Yin has created a 2D picture of they original Assassins Creed using a Digital water colour tool, giving it a shady effect, adding on to the Assassin theme making it seem as he is hiding in the shadows. I like this piece because the colours blend well together, so nothing stands out too much.
Seungho Lee has created a two dimensional viking character, the way he has set up the background makes this creation look like a games character where you have to pick your character at the start of the game. i like the background due to the way it looks as if i was picking that character in a game. the design is very good, the way he made the scars of the left shoulder and the traditional viking paint.
Luye Liangshanzhonggon has made a dark background of a distant temple, he has added a light looking onwards at the temple making the temple seem as though it is a safe place for refuge. Because he has added characters walking to the temple it gives an adventure feel to the picture.
Patrick Van Rooijen This three dimensional piece has a Ant man crossed with Iron man vibe to it, this character design has a futuristic military unit feel due to the armor like exoskeleton, when i saw this piece I liked with with a game known as Anthem, which is a free world story/ co op with you creating your own suit and defending those who are weak and afraid. Overall this looks like a great piece, the shapes look very simple, there's lots of curves but I personally think the head is too small for the body making it look odd but other than that it is a very cool design.
Imad Awan has created a beautiful traditional Japanese styled hut which looks as though it was used by a clan due to the symbol on the outer hut, he has created this darker scene to fit what looks to be a giant scorpion on the right hiding in the tree line with its tail curled up ready to strike, making it a darker scene he has created an eerie effect. it looks as though he has painted this piece due to the brush strokes on the curved lines, he has used dry brush to give the torches a glow adding to the effect of it being dark.

If I didn’t have the artistic skills of a drunken monkey, the illustrations would be like a Manowar album cover (with more bipedal roaches).
I’ll tag @stalkerkyoko @missbingu @laymansterms12 @yahoo201027 and anyone else who isn’t already tagged who feels like doing this.
